Persuasive Essay On Education In Education
Living in the 21st century can come as a blessing and a curse. As people debate whether or not the
media is taking us over as human beings, there can be some good that comes from the wide
selection of technology that most everyone has at the end of their fingertips. Anyone can feel free to
go onto the internet and state what they feel, and state what needs to be changed in society today.
One huge debate going on around the world wide web is whether or not students are being taught
the lessons necessary to succeed in everyday life. Not specifically talking about life after college, or
just when they leave school at 3 o'clock every weekday afternoon. There needs to be a change in the
education system; there needs to be more life lessons in the classroom in order to create a better
future for the student. Students of every grade level need to be educated on how to succeed not only
outside of school, but for when they graduate their last year of college. It is imperative to start
educating students of simple life lessons at a young age due to the same reason that it is
recommended for elementary students to learn a foreign language at a younger age, it sticks. In a
like manner, high school students need the same. Students in this age more than ever need to be
equipped with the skills and knowledge of how to function in the real world, without having such
skills the student is more than likely going to struggle after graduation, which is what colleges have
been seeing for

Happiness In The Movie Pursuit Of Happiness
Believing in self or self–trust could save someone's life and lead life into the right direction toward
success. It did in "Pursuit of Happyness" where Mr. Gardner was losing control over his life until he
trusted himself. Then his life started to turn around and when he believed in himself, everyone else
believed in him and he succeed. Losing something of value can cause pain but when self–trust is
lost, there is not much to do when you don't have self–trust. When self–trust is present, believing
and achieving soon follow leading to success in life. When America wrote the Declaration of
Independence, one of the most important, and well–known lines was "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit
of happiness". Something that is interesting to look into is why Thomas Jefferson put "pursuit of
happiness instead of just "happiness". The pursuit of happiness is about the journey, the good and
the bad. Getting through the hard times knowing there's light at the end of the tunnel. If happiness is
always present, there is no pursuit then happiness is suddenly taken away, and the person doesn't
know how to pursuit it again due to no pursuit at the beginning of happiness. The actual pursuit to
happiness is more important than the happiness itself due to the fact that happiness can be taken
away at anytime but the pursuit to get back will always be there. This is shown through the movie
"Pursuit of Happyness" and how self–trust is so important in someone's life. In the movie, Mr.
Gardner loses his wife, his apartment, and almost loses his kid. He couldn't catch a break,
everything that could go wrong went wrong did. What he didn't lose what his self–trust; that he
could provide for little boy, be the father figure his kid needs, and still be on the pursuit of happiness
when it seemed like happiness was a million miles away. The job he was applying for was a
stockbroker and it was him and 20 other smart people fighting for it. Nobody thought he could do it,
not even his own wife who left him shortly after. One example of self–trust in the movie is when
Mr. Gardner and his son Christopher are playing basketball and talking then Mr. Gardner said "You
got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin'

Social Class By Janny Scott And David Leonhardt
The clear understanding of social class has changed dramatically from long ago. Janny Scott and
David Leonhardt both agree, "It has become harder to read people's status in the clothes they wear,
the cars they drive, the votes they cast, the god they worship, the color of their skin", and the
contour of class might have even disappeared completely, but over all class, race, ethnicity plays a
very important role in the American Life. As everything slowly widens up to more open
opportunities for everyone, the rich are increasingly isolating themselves slowly and slowly. It
shows that even while having the somewhat equal opportunity to each other, it is harder to move up
the economic class than down. For example, the wealthy people that have been inherited the wealth
didn't start off the same as the unwealthy making it somewhat unfair since the rich took from the
poor back in the days. The people that start off good are the ones who mostly hands down
everything to their children making them succeed and then seeing their success as "earned". Ernie
Franzier, a 65–year–old real estate investor in Houston says, "I think the system is as fair as you can
make it," meaning that even if life isn't fair and no matter how we started off we can all make it by
working hard and having a good education. Even when someone dies all the valuables go to some
type of relative or person they know, then leaving them an opportunity of chance to succeed. "Class

How Can I Be Better Than Others?
How to succeed at school?
How can I be better than others? I was asking myself when I was at school. I did my high school in
my country, Cameroon. It is one of the best school of my city. At the beginning, it was very difficult
for me, my grades were bad and I thought I was not going to succeed. My parents used to beat me
because of bad grades. My mother , who was a teacher , played an important role in that step of my
studies. She talked to me a lot and gave me advices. I finally found that without organization,
participation and a routine, you cannot succeed at school.
The first step of success is organization.Organization is a very important part of the process leading
to success. Therefore, without it you cannot achieve anything. You have to organize your life. By
organizing your life it means that you know what you want, you do not get distracted, you have
good relations with everybody. This part is very important in the organization step because if you do
not have an organize and stable life, it will affect your education. For example, I have a friend who
failed his exam because of the problems he had with his girlfriend. After that failure, he decided to
forget all and focus on his studies. He got better and passed his exam. The second part of the
organization step is the planning. To succeed, you have to have a good use of your time, make sure
you do everything you have to do and do not forget anything. For that, you have

A Walk To The Tatey Analysis
Have you ever sacrificed something valuable in order to succeed? If so than you can probably relate
to the stories of Annie John and Captain Keeny. In the story "A walk to the Jetty", Annie John lived
on the small island of Antigua, and dreamed every day of leaving. The opportunity finally came
when she got the chance to become a nurse in England. She then faced the fact that she would need
to sacrifice a lot in order to succeed; she needed to leave her family and all that she ever knew. The
story of Captain Keeny in Ile is similar; he is a captain on a ship that is getting ile–a type of oil–and
soon the two years that the crew signed on for is up. He realizes that his ship is not full of ile, and he
can simply not bear to think of the scrutiny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These different sacrifices are shown in the stories of Annie and Captain Keeny. Annie sacrifices the
things she loves and knows for the greater good, while Keeny sacrifices the people he loves for
money, greed, and power. In Annie's story she must leave all the things she loves, her family,
friends, and life, in order to get the opportunity to succeed. Although throughout the whole story
Annie's tries to come up with reasons for anger towards her parents, life, and friends, we learn that
she is actually heartbroken to leave everything that she's ever known. "I shall never see this again,
spilled out inside me. But then just as quickly my heart shriveled up... I don't know what kept me
from falling in a heap at my parent's feet" (Kincaid 40). From this passage, we learn that she really
truly will miss her family but recognizes the sacrifices she needed in order to succeed, as does the
rest of her family. However, the Keeny intentionally puts his crew members and wife in danger just
to save his reputation. Kenny's wife Annie sailed on the ocean with him for two years, and she
complains to him that she can feel herself losing her mind and begs him to turn back to land. His
crew members beg him as well but he pulls a gun on them and threatens to shoot them if they don't
go along with what he says. The only person who could get into his head is his wife Annie, and

Always Running Film Analysis
Through books, authors often try to communicate messages about society, or predict what will
happen to it. Through their literature, they explore the different aspects of what their community is
comprised of, and shed light on certain subjects that would otherwise be left untouched by the minds
of readers. Similarly, movies share these messages with the masses, and make it more accessible to
the community. Oftentimes, directors use the cinema to paint a picture of what life is like, or what
life will be like. Through these two different fields, artists are able to share their knowledge with
their audience, and audiences are able to soak up this knowledge, and relate to it. In Always
Running, a memoir written by Luis Rodriguez, he shares an ... Show more content on

For Luis Rodriguez, he is ignored, and the school system basically gave up on him. Luis could
easily recall "when [he] first entered school in Watts, how [he] had been virtually written off, pushed
into a corner with building blocks and treated like a pariah; how in Garvey [he] had been heaved out
of classes, and later in high school, forced to drop out and labeled a failure"(Rodriguez 218). It is
impossible to succeed when everyone contributes to your failure. From the minute he stepped foot
inside a school, the teachers wouldn't even try to teach him, and shoved him into the corner. The
only thing this taught him is that his education isn't as important as the education of the white
children. As a spanish speaking child, the teachers never made an effort to communicate with him,
and he is exiled from an institution that should be welcoming him with open arms. Similarly, in
Gattaca, Vincent's need for an education is completely ignored, and he is told that "the only way [he
is] ever going to see the inside of a spaceship is if [he is] cleaning it"(Niccol). The only thing
Vincent is ever taught is how to serve. Vincent's education is never a priority for anyone around him,
including himself. At birth he is told that he will never succeed, so he began to believe it himself.
His parents doubted him, and told him that he would never accomplish his dreams.

Explain What Does It Mean To Be Normal
What does it mean to be "normal?" In most cases "normal" means typically developing. "Typical
development" is described using milestones that one achieves during the early stages of
development. When comparing an individual child's growth to the average statistic, a delay or
advancement can be labeled as not "normal". According to the textbook: "'Normal' is truly just an
abstract concept that we apply to our personal experience" (3). No person is truly "normal" because
everyone has a different set of abilities than others. "Normal" is based on how one perceives the
people around them and themselves. "Typical" or "Normal" is also based on society's values. As
stated before, people can be considered different based on their development. In

Story Behind The Glory Analysis
What's the Story Behind the Glory?Hate the thought of failing? Well guess what? You are really not
failing! I have overcome the fear of failure. I realized that you cannot fail at anything. Mistakes
should be looked at as results or outcomes. How should you look at mistakes? Well you shouldn't
look at them as permanent. You should look at them as progression to getting to the result you
wanted. Learn not to limit yourself. Do not miss out on doing something because you're afraid of
making a mistake. You cannot be afraid of failing or you will never succeed. This is valuable
because many people will not be successful in life as they want to be, if they think they are always
going to fail. Remember, failure isn't a personal characteristic. Not

Sacrifice And Success
Sacrifice Or Success?
Something that everyone wants to achieve is success. Success is not something that comes easy in
life, one must be prepared to give sacrifices such as time, in order for them to reach a professional
level of success. In order to succeed, people must learn to make sacrifices in life. Sacrifice is
necessary for people to succeed because if people are not willing to sacrifice anything such as time
or effort, they will not succeed. They need to sacrifice dedication, effort, and time. These three
fundamental principles if used correctly, are the best tools in the race for success. If the rules of
using maximum effort, dedication, and time are followed to its highest potential, individuals seeking
success will find it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The common, or "magic", number is 10,000 hours of practice in order for one to become master or
professional at what they are trying to accomplish. Most professional athletes such as hockey
players have been playing the sport for just about as long as they could walk. For example, most of
the skaters on the 18u Syracuse Stars AAA hockey team started playing the game at ages 3,4, or 5.
Every player on that team is fundamentally sound when it comes to the game. They have been
around it for so long that hockey became a way of life, these are the players, that dedicate the most
time in order to succeed. They give the small amount of practice time that they have everyday, 100%
every time they touch the ice. The hockey players across the world that dedicate the most time to
their sport, will be the ones who end up having the best chance at becoming a professional. The
same goes for any profession in which one would like to excel in. The hockey coach for the
Syracuse Stars 18u AAA team always says "You get out of it, what you put in it boys"(Coach Dan
Jones). This holds true because if you put in the time to succeed it will show. A better example
would be if there is a player on the team that makes each practice but plays sloppy and does not
attend optional practices and makes no effort to put in extra time,

Characteristics Of A Life : How Children Succeed
There are many characteristics to succeed in life. In Tough's book, How Children Succeed, he states
that the traits grit, self–control, zest, social intelligence, gratitude, optimism, and curiosity is likely
to predict life satisfaction and high achievement. There are more traits that can benefit to succeed in
life and gain high achievement but, Tough settled with the seven traits that quantifies character.
Tough experimented with each trait and explained why they are most likely to succeed in life and
earn high achievement. Everyday people take risk to learn from their mistakes to manage in any
difficult time that may come their way. Having curiosity, self–control, and optimism are the most
important way to succeed in life and beyond because people learn from taking risks that leads to
situation that will benefit them in the future.
Everybody makes mistakes and they either learn from them or not. People makes mistakes by being
curious. Being curious help to succeed because anytime in anywhere people are always asking
question and they want answers towards their question to learn. According to Tough, "Of course, it's
easy to tell kids they should put their losses in perspective and keep their confidence intact despite
setbacks. It's harder when you're the person doing the losing." (Tough, 116). Tough is stating that
even a loss is a gain because in a game of chess, for example, a person loses the game by making the
wrong move. Due to a previous decision of a situation

Overcoming Obstacles Of Determination
Victory is like gaining trust; hard to earn, but you also have to put some effort in. Victory is not also
about winning; it's also about changing, as one cannot progress without change. Victory is not
always about winning; it's also about how you are determined to succeed so therefore determination
is like a soldier; to survive a conflict, you must persevere to continue. This is why Freedom Writers
directed by Richard Lagravenese, Divergent by Neil Burger, Glory Road directed by James Gartner,
and The Pursuit of Happiness by Gabriele Muccino, all set in different times were attempting to
express the message that, overcoming obstacles takes effort, resilience, and determination. The films
are mainly about how the protagonist who struggles in life overcame their obstacles by having
determination, being resilient. The director cleverly use Dialogue to justify that we shouldn't give up

Explain How Success Consists Of Going Failure To Failures...
Winston Churchill once said that "Success consists of going failure to failures without loss of
enthusiasm". Winston's statement can be viewed as controversial because some people believe no
matter how hard ones tries one may fail. This point has merit because no matter how hard one tries
to defy gravity it will constantly be there. Except for these extreme cases success has been seen
through history as defeating what one had failed to do before. Being able to succeed is caused by not
losing enthusiasm between failures because without an enthusiasm to keep trying one will not want
to succeed, failure can create the idea that allows one to succeed, and without failure people would
not have the passion succeed no matter what. Enthusiasm between failures allows people to succeed
because the character they gain by not quitting is what makes one want to succeed after failure. It is
true that failing something that one has worked at for any period of time is hard to go through. The
character a person gain from failing however is that spark of persistence and enthusiasm to continue
trying. Even if one fails again that character will become even stronger and eventually will lead that

This point is seen anywhere in the world because of the inventions people have made. No invention
has ever worked perfectly after the first try. It was the enthusiasm in the inventors to see these
objects work perfectly that allowed them to eventually succeed, Some may say that certain
inventions are just modified older inventions, but the need for these new inventions was prompted
by someone having the enthusiasm to fix a failure in a prior invention. These ideas spurred by
realizing the source of a failure may go noticed, but without someone having the enthusiasm to see
the idea work there would never be

Amadeus Ghitch Theory
Gladwell discusses the various theories of how many people had succeeded in life and their careers.
Most of these theories lineup together or falls hand–in–hand with one another; especially race, the
skin color of these people have a lot to do with their success. Receiving opportunities are very
essential to success, as well as being born at the right time, and how you are raised can all impact
how we will succeed in our lives. Many of the most successful people say to be able to succeed all
you need is merit and to work hard, this is usually said upon white people. Whereas it is more
difficult for people of color succeed majorly due to discrimination. A theory Gladwell mentions to
have been successful in receiving opportunities, like Amadeus Mozart (Gladwell, 40) who was a
child prodigy composing music at the age of five. Mozart was the most talented of his time, but it
hadn't been for his father pushing him so much Amadeus Mozart would of never reach 10,000 hours
of practice. His father was the main reason he received so many opportunities like making sure he
was in lessons. Another theory discussed is to succeed it is crucial to be born in the right time, The
Matthew Effect; like in sports and school rules Gladwell talks about (Gladwell ch.1). If you were
born after the cut off date, you were held back not allowing you to succeed as much as you
originally would, if given the same opportunity. Another example is when the Jews came and were
able to use their skills to

What Is Perseverance In Fever 1793
Everyone knows that no matter what happens, always have strength and perseverance. In Fever,
1793, by Laurie Halse Anderson, the character Mattie Cook uses strength and perseverance to
overcome hard times. Of course, there are many other theories, but this theory is the most relevant
one. Reasons like " With strength, you can overcome anything, If at first you don't succeed, try, try,
again, and To get something in life, you have to push and persevere for it." With these reasons, you
can clearly see why this claim is best fitting for Fever, 1793. No matter what happens in life, having
strength and perseverance is a great thing to have. Knowing that having strength, you can overcome
anything, you can do anything. For example, in Fever, 1793, when the character's grandfather passes
away, the main character, Mattie, uses strength to overcome his death and help care for others in
need. Having strength can get you through anything like how Mattie overcame Grandfather's death
with strength. It is a great thing to have because strength can get you through anything. ... Show

Aristotle Essay examples
Aristotle believes that happiness is the ultimate goal in life. You can't reach happiness unless you
work hard and become successful. That is where virtue comes into play. A human's function is to
engage in "an activity of the soul which is in accordance with virtue" and which "is in conformity
with reason" (page 76, Palmer). The two kinds of virtue are intellectual and moral. Our virtues are
what make us all individual and all different. Intellectual virtues are what we are born with and what
we learn. It is our nature as humans and what we have inherited that makes desire to learn. As
humans, we develop wisdom to help guide us to a good life. With the intellectual virtue you develop

We are born with faculties like we are with passions. "We are not made up of good or bad nature; we
are not praised nor blamed"(page 225, Mayfield). This quote is explaining with passions and
faculties are how we feel and desire which is neither right nor wrong, good or bad. Since passions
and faculties are not defined, state of character is virtue. State of character is our actions and our
habits. "The virtue of man also will be the state of character which makes a man good and which
makes him do his own work well" (page 225, Mayfield). In order to have true virtue you need to act
to "accordance with a golden mean of moderation" (page 78, Palmer). This means that you need to
find an intermediate so you will be praised and succeed. You can't take too much or too little. Too
much for someone could be too little for someone else, therefore each person needs to find their own
individual mean.
"For we may be said to desire all things as means to something else except indeed happiness, as
happiness is the end or perfect state" (page 230, Mayfield). As Aristotle said that our ultimate goal is
happiness but in order to reach happiness you have to succeed. "Relaxation then is not an end. We
enjoy it as a means to activity; but it seems that the happy life is a life of virtue, and such a life is
serious, it is not one of mere amusement. We speak of serious things too as better than things which
are ridiculous and amusing, and of the activity of

Review Of ' First Job '
Learn More and More Audience: Those who do not like learning In "First Job", Iliana Roman recalls
her learning experiences throughout her work life. Roman's first point is to remain persistent even in
the face of difficulty. Roman's second point is to try and make everything a learning experience.
Roman's third point is to work with what is best, not what is easiest. Another point of Roman is to
conduct one's behavior as if he/she is a role model for all. Roman concludes that one should always
give their best effort so they won't let those who look out for them down. Iliana Roman's article,
"First Job", illustrates the idea that jobs open up paths to learn and that one needs to always continue
to learn in his/her life is very true. There are three statements in Roman's article that are found to be
true. She says if you are determined no one will stop you, friends and businesses do not mix, and all
previous experiences help in everything you do. Roman's article contains many factual statements
and as a whole her paper is very true. Roman learns through her job experiences that if you are
determined to do something you will accomplish it. As Roman states, "I think if you set your mind
to learn something you'll learn it; there's no stopping you" (Roman 815). In the beginning of the

Grit The Power Of Passion And Perseverance Reflection Paper
lose one of mGrit to Succeed Grit is the power of passion and perseverance. Passion and
perseverance are not qualities that everybody has. Not everybody who sets a long–term goal
achieves it. People who have passion and perseverance are most likely to succeed in life, because
passion is what gives us the ability to stick to a goal for a long period of time, and perseverance is
the motivation to continue pursuing our goals. Passion and perseverance are the bridges to achieve
your goals. In the TED talk "Grit: the power of passion and perseverance" Angela Duckworth
explain what will help you to succeed in life and she called it Grit, which she defined it as passion
and perseverance for very long–term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future,
day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working hard to
make that future a reality. Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint. Angela Duckworth was
a seventh–grade teacher in New York Public Schools, and became a psychologist. She is the author
of the TED Talk "Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance". The main point of this TED Talk is
that having grit is what will help you to succeed in life. She asks herself, who is successful and why,
and she concluded that people who succeed in life are those who have grit, which is the passion and
perseverance to achieve every long–term goal. She emphasized that talent or social intelligent is not
what will lead you to succeed, but the key that will help you to succeed are passion and
perseverance. Those who can stick with their future goals for years and work hard to make that
future a reality is more likely to succeed. Moreover, she explained in her speech that growth mindset
is great for building grit, which based on the TED Talk people who have a growth mindset are those
people that do not believe that failure is a permanent condition. In my point of view those people
who have growth mindset are more likely to be successful in life. Duckworth built credibility by
saying that she went to graduate school to become a psychologist and started studying kids and
adults in all kinds of super challenging settings, and in every study. Duckworth said,

The Mental Health Costs Of Academic Success
Every year around forty kids will take their lives over the stress that school and parents have put on

all aspects of their lives, and in doing so we are causing mental and emotional harm to them. Our
children are the future of this country, however, they are still children who need to grow and develop
into adults. By putting a tremendous amount of pressure on students to succeed in anything and
everything in their lives, we are damaging them from growing up and expanding their horizons to
seek out knowledge for themselves. One awful damaging effect of this stress is that too much of it

The hypervigilance of parents where they dictate everything that their child does actually does
damage to the child because it stunts the development of internal motivation in these students
(Margolies, 2016). If my parents had told me what clubs to be in, what sports to do, what classes to
take, and what homework to do at what time then I never would have developed the motivation to
choose for myself. It would have actually made me less capable of choosing things for myself, thus
causing more stress in my life as more responsibility would fall on me as my schooling continues.
The other dangerous way that this forced culture of perfectionism damages these youths is when
they seem to be the perfect student, excelling in their studies in high school, and then without this
constant support they crash in college and can quickly spiral out of control, not knowing how to
handle this new stress as they no longer have the hypervigilance or the praise of their parents to keep
them going. Helicopter parents think that by controlling these aspects of their child's life will benefit
them and create the best possible outcome for them. This is very obviously false as it is creating the
situation of a severely underdeveloped child. There is really no reason for our youths to become
damaged over this overbearing amount of stress, as a society we need to help out

Authentire's Ability To Succeed In Life
"To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone" (McEntire).
What McEntire means by this is that in order to succeed in life, you need luck, the ability to stand up
for yourself, and a sense of humour. These things mentioned all serve an important purpose in how
we live, not in a biological sense but a philosophical one. These are the things that keep us going. A
wishbone gives us faith that if we just try again, our plan might work. A backbone keeps us from
giving up on ourselves. And finally, a funny bone gives us the ability to look for the silver lining in a
dark cloud. Some people may ask how you could apply this to your life. A better question would be
when not to apply it. When is a bad time to have some luck, or some support with you? When would
you not want to have a sense of humour on your side for when times get tough? ... Show more

The tradition of cracking wishbones was started by the Ancient Romans. They saw the wishbone as
a symbol of luck, and this eventually evolved into breaking it apart. A wishbone is snapped apart by
two people while they are both making their wish. The person holding the longer piece was said to
have good fortune or a wish granted. If the bone cracked evenly in half, both people would have
their wishes come true (Christine Gallary). As seen by Romans and most people today, the wishbone
is a symbol of luck. To succeed in life, you require luck no matter the amount of talent you possess.
However, luck is not the only requirement for

Analysis Of Michael Dirda's Listening To My Father
Parents always want their children to succeed and in the short essay, "Listening to My Father",
Michael Dirda discusses how a father wants his son to succeed in his life. In the second sentence,
the author states, "He yearned to see my name–his name, too – metaphorically or even actually in
light, and was constantly urging me from an early age to better myself "(Paragraph 1 sentence 2).
The father wants his son to learn, and explore in order to have a better life than his. Even though the
father is strict towards his son, he shows affection when the son ends up getting sick. The father
desires that his son doesn't have to go through what he had to go through. In the last paragraph the
author states, "My dad had dropped out of school at 16 when

Becoming An Active Learner By Skip Downing
Some future college students are born with a natural talent in the subject English. Which includes
critical thinking, writing, and reading. While for others, possibly being mathematicians, English is
and probably will never be their keen subject in life. Students find more passions in sciences, arts,
and medical teachings which is not something to look down upon. Although, many students forget
that English is still a huge part of all these subjects. Where ever these students go they will find the
necessity to read something or to write something. That's where college English comes in handy.
College English prepares students for academic writing at a university level, and also for their
careers when formal writing is required. Many students fear college English classes, but there are
many ways to succeed in these college English classes. Looking over the articles Becoming an
Active Learner by Skip Downing, Brianology by Carol S. Dweck, and The Right to Fail by Willliam
Zinsser, these authors express their feelings on being able to succeed in life in a general view.
Mainly taking education into consideration. Students should not be afraid of college English classes
because their are many ways to succeed in them by establishing a growth mindset, creating an active
learning pattern, and having a positive and mature attitude. To start off, if students establish and set
their minds to a growth mindset, these students are more likely to succeed in college English. A

The Importance Of Education In Education
Schools are not Teaching what is Necessary for Students to Succeed Outside of the Classroom
Living in the 21st century can come with a blessing and a curse. As people debate whether or not the
media is taking us over as human beings, there can be some good that comes from the wide
selection of technology that mostly everyone has at the end of their fingertips. Anyone can feel free
to go onto the internet and state what they feel, and state what needs to be changed in society today.
High
school students need the same as well. Students in this age more than ever need to be equipped with
the skills and knowledge of how to function in the real world, without having such skills the student

Analysis Of The Book ' Keepin ' It Real ' By Prudence...
In the research novel, "Keepin' It Real" written by Prudence Carter, a large group of African
American and Latino students are asked questions and are shadowed to better understand the culture
and the struggles they face every day. The students are asked questions about their family and their
opinions on life. Carter shadows them from time to time to experience what they do to get a better
understanding of their life and struggles. Based on the research of Carter, African American and
Latino youth struggle to achieve the "American dream".
Carter used the phrase "acting white" to express how the African American and Latino students, in
her study, view other students who act and dress outside their culture. When a student speaks using
standard English, they are thought to be "acting white" because they have rejected the use of black
English. When a student goes to school and is seen to being wearing clothes that are deemed
"preppy", they are said to be "acting white". In the African American and Latino student culture,
black English and a certain style of dress are expected and when you go against the expected way,
you are called out. "Acting white" is normally associated with the honors classes and working hard.
Some of the students that are said to be "acting white" are not necessarily trying to be white. They
are just trying to get good grades so that they can graduate and then go off to college.
The students that "act white" are usually the students that receive higher

Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers: A Story Of Success
Vince Lombardi once said, "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of
strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will." Most people throughout the world strive
for success in whatever they may be doing, and along with this, many reasons contribute to why
success is achieved or not. If a person does not succeed, they may automatically blame themselves
because of their level of strength. Others may blame themselves for not having enough knowledge
about what they are trying to succeed at. The real reason that people may not succeed, however, is
their low level of will, determination, and happiness. Both knowledge and strength combine to help
a person succeed because of the will and determination that ... Show more content on

Examples Of Unequal Opportunities In The American Dream
The American Dream:
Unequal Opportunity in the United States
What is the American Dream? The American Dream is everyone in the U.S to have equal
opportunities and be treated the same and not be discriminated. The roadblocks to the American
Dream was to succeed and not give up regardless of the situation and shouldn't judge a person by
their appearance or actions. To succeed in life was to get a good education in schools, therefore you
can get a well–paid job. The Article, "Does the American Dream even exist in your ZIP Code," by
Jonathan Cohn, he talks about the positive and negative sides of income mobility and argues about
the location. Income mobility and location determine the living standers and success of education
because where they lived was part of their success in life. In the other article "Unequal
opportunities: Race and Education," by Linda Darling–Hammond, she states about the inequalities
they had toward the students and their success. Darling–Hammond correlated two different races:
White and African Americans, to know the opportunities they had while growing up, and to see how
educated, they were in school because the school students attended was all based on their education.
The only solution for students in the American dream to succeed on their life's by having equal
opportunities. In both articles, education was important because that was their way up to success and
be able to get a well–paid job. Everyone getting treated the same and having the same opportunities
will make them successful. In Cohn's and Darling–Hammond, inequality was a major issue in the
united states, because without a good education it was difficult for one to achieve in their life's.
The Inequality made it hard for people in American to succeed. According to Cohn article, "Does
the American Dream even exist in your ZIP Code," he stated about the American dream and the
income mobility but also argues about location. Location in the article was important because it
shows the best education a student will receive depending on the area they lived and the schools that
were around. There are urban, suburban, and rural areas. The best area that a student will receive a
good education is in the suburban area. The suburban

Occupy The Classroom Summary
The world consists of two social classes: the rich and poor. Therefore, the world of education
consists of two types of groups, the affluent students and the non–affluent students. Why must the
world of education be split apart? Why can't both the rich and poor students earn the same
education? Seeking an education is important in one's life, it determines one's future. In "Occupy
The Classroom" by Nicholas D. Kristof, a columnist from The New York Times, informs readers
that the world of education consists of a huge gap. The gap separates the affluent students from the
non–affluent students.
Seeking an education is the key for success in one's life. ' "This is where inequality starts," said
Kathleen McCartney, the dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, as she showed me a

After seeking a higher education, one is able to move on to the next stages of life peacefully. "One
common thread, whether I'm reporting on poverty in New York or Sierra Leone, is that a good
education tends to be the most reliable escalator out of poverty. Another common thread: whether in
America or Africa, disadvantaged kids often don't get a chance to board that escalator" (Nicholas D.
Kristof). The "escalator out of poverty" indicates that non–affluent students must succeed in the
world of academics. Successes that will give them hope to move on to the next stages of life. In
addition, one can argue that non–affluent students who succeed in the world of education,
epitomizes strong and fearless human beings. These human beings make the world a stronger and
powerful place mainly because, they know how to overcome struggles that causes one question the
meaning of success in life. Overcoming challenges in life, will allow you to overcome other

Collaboration within groups allows individuals to use their own specific ideas and own talents to

used to be completely individual based with little to no feel of a collaborative environment.
However, schools are now beginning to understand the benefits of losing the standard approach to

Money Changes The Way We Think And Behave By Carolyn Gregiore
Human success is determined in many different ways. Nature and Nurture are an example of how
human success can become a debating way of triumph for someone life. Nature is when someone is
born with an ability to do something or has some kind of sickness that affects them in the way they
live their lives as individuals. On the other hand, Nurture is when someone is affected by their
surroundings and the way of being raised. Many people are in debate in how these two theories
affect us human beings to succeed in life.
Nature is one the reason why people struggle to become are be a successful person in life. Many of
us aren't born to be perfect or even close to perfect. However, many people are born with advantages
and wonderful talents that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surroundings is what causes people to not succeed or to succeed in their life. People now days
blame everything on the way that they are born or their family history. However, in this case Nurture
is the reason why many people don't succeed in life because of the way they're raised/treated.
Money can also be a reason to failing in life because money makes people change. While reading
the passage of "Money Changes the Way We think and Behave" by Carolyn Gregiore the author
shows his readers that Nurture can change people's success. In the text it states, "rich people tend to
be a source of envy and distrust ,so much so that we may even take pleasure in their struggles..."
(Gregiore). This shows that people see money as a way that they can be better than other
people.Nurture takes place in this because of money some people are able to succeed. Many people
have realized that money can determine our success. In the passage it states, "More Americans are
beginning to look beyond money and status when it comes to defining success in life"
(Gregiore). This reveals that Nurture can affect the way that people see how success should be done.
Many don't believe in the fact that success should be done with hard work and discipline. In this
passage what was said was that many people are affected by their surroundings such as parents and
money which is one of the main reasons.
As a result, Nature and Nurture are believed to be the theories of success in the way that they come
into people's lives. Success an important aspect in people's life because it determines what they will
do with their lives. Therefore, humans till this day are still debating if Nature or Nurture are the
reasons why someone can succeed in

My Reflection Of Life : My Importance Of Success In Life
"To succeed in life, you need three things: a backbone, a wishbone, and a funny bone" (McEntire).
Quotes like these help you step back and evaluate yourself and your life to see if yours fits. I know
that I did that myself when I thought about it. You also have to break them down to see what they
really mean. When you break them down, you can really see what each piece means so hopefully
you can understand.
"To succeed in life, you need...a backbone..." (McEntire). My interpretation of "...you need...a
backbone..." (McEntire), really is just that you need a strong work ethic. I believe that if you do not
do your own work, and you depend on everyone else doing your work for you, then you will not be
able to do the work yourself when it really counts. A personal example of this would be one of my
friends. I have known him for at least three years now, and since I have known him, he has always
been willing to do his own work, and never had an issue. This year, he has started to really goof off,
and not really care about his work. He then looks at me as if he expects me to give him the answers
because I have them. I just have gotten to the point of telling him that I cannot give him the answers
because it is cheating, and because he will not know how to do the work when he is required to do it
later on a test. I believe that it is not right to agree to give him the answers because he still is not
going to know how to do anything for himself. Plus, if you think about it, there will

In Defense Of Failure, By Mark Anshel
We have all failed at something in life. Whether it be tests, projects, sports, or closing a business
deal, everyone will experience crippling failure at some point in their life. Depending on how hard
the fall is, getting back up from a fail in anything can be a bit arduous. According to the article In
Defense of Failure, "America allows room for its citizens to fail – and if they don't succeed, to try
and try again" (Megan Ardle). This shows that when we permit anyone to make room for failure, we
gain insight on how to make the next step on leading people to success at any given task. As the
paralyzing pressure of molding to the ways of society rise, more people strain themselves trying to
attain success based on other people's past achievements. This can put a high amount of pressure on
anyone to live up to someone else instead of going out and achieving their own success story. If
society became more tolerable of failure, more people may actually try to get back up and succeed
on their own account.
Failing in various areas in life can give people a negative outlook on their own achievements. When
failure strikes, people can become discouraged by their lack of achievements and give up. According
to In Praise of Failure: The Value of Overcoming Mistakes in Sports and in Life by Mark Anshel,
the author was a failure in numerous activities he wrote about in his book. " I am not a failure (as a
person); I failed at something" (Ashnel). This is a positive perspective on

education may be viewed with many different stereotypes, but until one fully experiences the

  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Education In Education Living in the 21st century can come as a blessing and a curse. As people debate whether or not the media is taking us over as human beings, there can be some good that comes from the wide selection of technology that most everyone has at the end of their fingertips. Anyone can feel free to go onto the internet and state what they feel, and state what needs to be changed in society today. One huge debate going on around the world wide web is whether or not students are being taught the lessons necessary to succeed in everyday life. Not specifically talking about life after college, or just when they leave school at 3 o'clock every weekday afternoon. There needs to be a change in the education system; there needs to be more life lessons in the classroom in order to create a better future for the student. Students of every grade level need to be educated on how to succeed not only outside of school, but for when they graduate their last year of college. It is imperative to start educating students of simple life lessons at a young age due to the same reason that it is recommended for elementary students to learn a foreign language at a younger age, it sticks. In a like manner, high school students need the same. Students in this age more than ever need to be equipped with the skills and knowledge of how to function in the real world, without having such skills the student is more than likely going to struggle after graduation, which is what colleges have been seeing for ... • 5. Happiness In The Movie Pursuit Of Happiness Believing in self or self–trust could save someone's life and lead life into the right direction toward success. It did in "Pursuit of Happyness" where Mr. Gardner was losing control over his life until he trusted himself. Then his life started to turn around and when he believed in himself, everyone else believed in him and he succeed. Losing something of value can cause pain but when self–trust is lost, there is not much to do when you don't have self–trust. When self–trust is present, believing and achieving soon follow leading to success in life. When America wrote the Declaration of Independence, one of the most important, and well–known lines was "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Something that is interesting to look into is why Thomas Jefferson put "pursuit of happiness instead of just "happiness". The pursuit of happiness is about the journey, the good and the bad. Getting through the hard times knowing there's light at the end of the tunnel. If happiness is always present, there is no pursuit then happiness is suddenly taken away, and the person doesn't know how to pursuit it again due to no pursuit at the beginning of happiness. The actual pursuit to happiness is more important than the happiness itself due to the fact that happiness can be taken away at anytime but the pursuit to get back will always be there. This is shown through the movie "Pursuit of Happyness" and how self–trust is so important in someone's life. In the movie, Mr. Gardner loses his wife, his apartment, and almost loses his kid. He couldn't catch a break, everything that could go wrong went wrong did. What he didn't lose what his self–trust; that he could provide for little boy, be the father figure his kid needs, and still be on the pursuit of happiness when it seemed like happiness was a million miles away. The job he was applying for was a stockbroker and it was him and 20 other smart people fighting for it. Nobody thought he could do it, not even his own wife who left him shortly after. One example of self–trust in the movie is when Mr. Gardner and his son Christopher are playing basketball and talking then Mr. Gardner said "You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Social Class By Janny Scott And David Leonhardt The clear understanding of social class has changed dramatically from long ago. Janny Scott and David Leonhardt both agree, "It has become harder to read people's status in the clothes they wear, the cars they drive, the votes they cast, the god they worship, the color of their skin", and the contour of class might have even disappeared completely, but over all class, race, ethnicity plays a very important role in the American Life. As everything slowly widens up to more open opportunities for everyone, the rich are increasingly isolating themselves slowly and slowly. It shows that even while having the somewhat equal opportunity to each other, it is harder to move up the economic class than down. For example, the wealthy people that have been inherited the wealth didn't start off the same as the unwealthy making it somewhat unfair since the rich took from the poor back in the days. The people that start off good are the ones who mostly hands down everything to their children making them succeed and then seeing their success as "earned". Ernie Franzier, a 65–year–old real estate investor in Houston says, "I think the system is as fair as you can make it," meaning that even if life isn't fair and no matter how we started off we can all make it by working hard and having a good education. Even when someone dies all the valuables go to some type of relative or person they know, then leaving them an opportunity of chance to succeed. "Class is rank, it is ... • 9. How Can I Be Better Than Others? How to succeed at school? How can I be better than others? I was asking myself when I was at school. I did my high school in my country, Cameroon. It is one of the best school of my city. At the beginning, it was very difficult for me, my grades were bad and I thought I was not going to succeed. My parents used to beat me because of bad grades. My mother , who was a teacher , played an important role in that step of my studies. She talked to me a lot and gave me advices. I finally found that without organization, participation and a routine, you cannot succeed at school. The first step of success is organization.Organization is a very important part of the process leading to success. Therefore, without it you cannot achieve anything. You have to organize your life. By organizing your life it means that you know what you want, you do not get distracted, you have good relations with everybody. This part is very important in the organization step because if you do not have an organize and stable life, it will affect your education. For example, I have a friend who failed his exam because of the problems he had with his girlfriend. After that failure, he decided to forget all and focus on his studies. He got better and passed his exam. The second part of the organization step is the planning. To succeed, you have to have a good use of your time, make sure you do everything you have to do and do not forget anything. For that, you have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. A Walk To The Tatey Analysis Have you ever sacrificed something valuable in order to succeed? If so than you can probably relate to the stories of Annie John and Captain Keeny. In the story "A walk to the Jetty", Annie John lived on the small island of Antigua, and dreamed every day of leaving. The opportunity finally came when she got the chance to become a nurse in England. She then faced the fact that she would need to sacrifice a lot in order to succeed; she needed to leave her family and all that she ever knew. The story of Captain Keeny in Ile is similar; he is a captain on a ship that is getting ile–a type of oil–and soon the two years that the crew signed on for is up. He realizes that his ship is not full of ile, and he can simply not bear to think of the scrutiny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These different sacrifices are shown in the stories of Annie and Captain Keeny. Annie sacrifices the things she loves and knows for the greater good, while Keeny sacrifices the people he loves for money, greed, and power. In Annie's story she must leave all the things she loves, her family, friends, and life, in order to get the opportunity to succeed. Although throughout the whole story Annie's tries to come up with reasons for anger towards her parents, life, and friends, we learn that she is actually heartbroken to leave everything that she's ever known. "I shall never see this again, spilled out inside me. But then just as quickly my heart shriveled up... I don't know what kept me from falling in a heap at my parent's feet" (Kincaid 40). From this passage, we learn that she really truly will miss her family but recognizes the sacrifices she needed in order to succeed, as does the rest of her family. However, the Keeny intentionally puts his crew members and wife in danger just to save his reputation. Kenny's wife Annie sailed on the ocean with him for two years, and she complains to him that she can feel herself losing her mind and begs him to turn back to land. His crew members beg him as well but he pulls a gun on them and threatens to shoot them if they don't go along with what he says. • 13. Always Running Film Analysis Through books, authors often try to communicate messages about society, or predict what will happen to it. Through their literature, they explore the different aspects of what their community is comprised of, and shed light on certain subjects that would otherwise be left untouched by the minds of readers. Similarly, movies share these messages with the masses, and make it more accessible to the community. Oftentimes, directors use the cinema to paint a picture of what life is like, or what life will be like. Through these two different fields, artists are able to share their knowledge with their audience, and audiences are able to soak up this knowledge, and relate to it. In Always Running, a memoir written by Luis Rodriguez, he shares an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Luis Rodriguez, he is ignored, and the school system basically gave up on him. Luis could easily recall "when [he] first entered school in Watts, how [he] had been virtually written off, pushed into a corner with building blocks and treated like a pariah; how in Garvey [he] had been heaved out of classes, and later in high school, forced to drop out and labeled a failure"(Rodriguez 218). It is impossible to succeed when everyone contributes to your failure. From the minute he stepped foot inside a school, the teachers wouldn't even try to teach him, and shoved him into the corner. The only thing this taught him is that his education isn't as important as the education of the white children. As a spanish speaking child, the teachers never made an effort to communicate with him, and he is exiled from an institution that should be welcoming him with open arms. Similarly, in Gattaca, Vincent's need for an education is completely ignored, and he is told that "the only way [he is] ever going to see the inside of a spaceship is if [he is] cleaning it"(Niccol). The only thing Vincent is ever taught is how to serve. Vincent's education is never a priority for anyone around him, including himself. At birth he is told that he will never succeed, so he began to believe it himself. His parents doubted him, and told him that he would never accomplish his dreams. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Explain What Does It Mean To Be Normal What does it mean to be "normal?" In most cases "normal" means typically developing. "Typical development" is described using milestones that one achieves during the early stages of development. When comparing an individual child's growth to the average statistic, a delay or advancement can be labeled as not "normal". According to the textbook: "'Normal' is truly just an abstract concept that we apply to our personal experience" (3). No person is truly "normal" because everyone has a different set of abilities than others. "Normal" is based on how one perceives the people around them and themselves. I realized that you cannot fail at anything. Mistakes should be looked at as results or outcomes. How should you look at mistakes? Well you shouldn't look at them as permanent. You should look at them as progression to getting to the result you wanted. Learn not to limit yourself. Do not miss out on doing something because you're afraid of making a mistake. Success is not something that comes easy in life, one must be prepared to give sacrifices such as time, in order for them to reach a professional level of success. In order to succeed, people must learn to make sacrifices in life. Sacrifice is necessary for people to succeed because if people are not willing to sacrifice anything such as time or effort, they will not succeed. The common, or "magic", number is 10,000 hours of practice in order for one to become master or professional at what they are trying to accomplish. For example, most of the skaters on the 18u Syracuse Stars AAA hockey team started playing the game at ages 3,4, or 5. Every player on that team is fundamentally sound when it comes to the game. They have been around it for so long that hockey became a way of life, these are the players, that dedicate the most time in order to succeed. They give the small amount of practice time that they have everyday, 100% every time they touch the ice. The hockey players across the world that dedicate the most time to their sport, will be the ones who end up having the best chance at becoming a professional. The same goes for any profession in which one would like to excel in. The hockey coach for the Syracuse Stars 18u AAA team always says "You get out of it, what you put in it boys"(Coach Dan Jones). • 23. Characteristics Of A Life : How Children Succeed There are many characteristics to succeed in life. In Tough's book, How Children Succeed, he states that the traits grit, self–control, zest, social intelligence, gratitude, optimism, and curiosity is likely to predict life satisfaction and high achievement. There are more traits that can benefit to succeed in life and gain high achievement but, Tough settled with the seven traits that quantifies character. Tough experimented with each trait and explained why they are most likely to succeed in life and earn high achievement. Everyday people take risk to learn from their mistakes to manage in any difficult time that may come their way. Having curiosity, self–control, and optimism are the most important way to succeed in life and beyond because people learn from taking risks that leads to situation that will benefit them in the future. Everybody makes mistakes and they either learn from them or not. People makes mistakes by being curious. Being curious help to succeed because anytime in anywhere people are always asking question and they want answers towards their question to learn. According to Tough, "Of course, it's easy to tell kids they should put their losses in perspective and keep their confidence intact despite setbacks. • 25. Overcoming Obstacles Of Determination Victory is like gaining trust; hard to earn, but you also have to put some effort in. Victory is not also about winning; it's also about changing, as one cannot progress without change. Victory is not always about winning; it's also about how you are determined to succeed so therefore determination is like a soldier; to survive a conflict, you must persevere to continue. This is why Freedom Writers directed by Richard Lagravenese, Divergent by Neil Burger, Glory Road directed by James Gartner, and The Pursuit of Happiness by Gabriele Muccino, all set in different times were attempting to express the message that, overcoming obstacles takes effort, resilience, and determination. The films are mainly about how the protagonist who struggles in life overcame their obstacles by having determination, being resilient. • 27. Explain How Success Consists Of Going Failure To Failures... Winston Churchill once said that "Success consists of going failure to failures without loss of enthusiasm". Winston's statement can be viewed as controversial because some people believe no matter how hard ones tries one may fail. This point has merit because no matter how hard one tries to defy gravity it will constantly be there. Except for these extreme cases success has been seen through history as defeating what one had failed to do before. Being able to succeed is caused by not losing enthusiasm between failures because without an enthusiasm to keep trying one will not want to succeed, failure can create the idea that allows one to succeed, and without failure people would not have the passion succeed no matter what. Enthusiasm between failures allows people to succeed because the character they gain by not quitting is what makes one want to succeed after failure. It is true that failing something that one has worked at for any period of time is hard to go through. The character a person gain from failing however is that spark of persistence and enthusiasm to continue trying. Even if one fails again that character will become even stronger and eventually will lead that person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. Amadeus Ghitch Theory Gladwell discusses the various theories of how many people had succeeded in life and their careers. Most of these theories lineup together or falls hand–in–hand with one another; especially race, the skin color of these people have a lot to do with their success. Receiving opportunities are very essential to success, as well as being born at the right time, and how you are raised can all impact how we will succeed in our lives. Many of the most successful people say to be able to succeed all you need is merit and to work hard, this is usually said upon white people. Whereas it is more difficult for people of color succeed majorly due to discrimination. A theory Gladwell mentions to have been successful in receiving opportunities, like Amadeus Mozart (Gladwell, 40) who was a child prodigy composing music at the age of five. Mozart was the most talented of his time, but it hadn't been for his father pushing him so much Amadeus Mozart would of never reach 10,000 hours of practice. His father was the main reason he received so many opportunities like making sure he was in lessons. Another theory discussed is to succeed it is crucial to be born in the right time, The Matthew Effect; like in sports and school rules Gladwell talks about (Gladwell ch.1). If you were born after the cut off date, you were held back not allowing you to succeed as much as you originally would, if given the same opportunity. In Fever, 1793, by Laurie Halse Anderson, the character Mattie Cook uses strength and perseverance to overcome hard times. Of course, there are many other theories, but this theory is the most relevant one. Reasons like " With strength, you can overcome anything, If at first you don't succeed, try, try, again, and To get something in life, you have to push and persevere for it." With these reasons, you can clearly see why this claim is best fitting for Fever, 1793. No matter what happens in life, having strength and perseverance is a great thing to have. Knowing that having strength, you can overcome anything, you can do anything. For example, in Fever, 1793, when the character's grandfather passes away, the main character, Mattie, uses strength to overcome his death and help care for others in need. That is where virtue comes into play. A human's function is to engage in "an activity of the soul which is in accordance with virtue" and which "is in conformity with reason" (page 76, Palmer). The two kinds of virtue are intellectual and moral. Our virtues are what make us all individual and all different. Intellectual virtues are what we are born with and what we learn. Since passions and faculties are not defined, state of character is virtue. State of character is our actions and our habits. "The virtue of man also will be the state of character which makes a man good and which makes him do his own work well" (page 225, Mayfield). In order to have true virtue you need to act to "accordance with a golden mean of moderation" (page 78, Palmer). This means that you need to find an intermediate so you will be praised and succeed. You can't take too much or too little. Too much for someone could be too little for someone else, therefore each person needs to find their own individual mean. Passion and perseverance are not qualities that everybody has. Not everybody who sets a long–term goal achieves it. People who have passion and perseverance are most likely to succeed in life, because passion is what gives us the ability to stick to a goal for a long period of time, and perseverance is the motivation to continue pursuing our goals. Passion and perseverance are the bridges to achieve your goals. In the TED talk "Grit: the power of passion and perseverance" Angela Duckworth explain what will help you to succeed in life and she called it Grit, which she defined it as passion and perseverance for very long–term goals. As a society we put too much pressure on the shoulders of our youth to succeed in all aspects of their lives, and in doing so we are causing mental and emotional harm to them. Our children are the future of this country, however, they are still children who need to grow and develop into adults. By putting a tremendous amount of pressure on students to succeed in anything and everything in their lives, we are damaging them from growing up and expanding their horizons to seek out knowledge for themselves. It would have actually made me less capable of choosing things for myself, thus causing more stress in my life as more responsibility would fall on me as my schooling continues. The other dangerous way that this forced culture of perfectionism damages these youths is when they seem to be the perfect student, excelling in their studies in high school, and then without this constant support they crash in college and can quickly spiral out of control, not knowing how to handle this new stress as they no longer have the hypervigilance or the praise of their parents to keep them going. Helicopter parents think that by controlling these aspects of their child's life will benefit them and create the best possible outcome for them. What McEntire means by this is that in order to succeed in life, you need luck, the ability to stand up for yourself, and a sense of humour. These things mentioned all serve an important purpose in how we live, not in a biological sense but a philosophical one. These are the things that keep us going. A wishbone gives us faith that if we just try again, our plan might work. A backbone keeps us from giving up on ourselves. And finally, a funny bone gives us the ability to look for the silver lining in a dark cloud. Some people may ask how you could apply this to your life. A better question would be when not to apply it. When is a bad time to have some luck, or some support with you? When would you not want to have a sense of humour on your side for when times get tough? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As people debate whether or not the media is taking us over as human beings, there can be some good that comes from the wide selection of technology that mostly everyone has at the end of their fingertips. In the research novel, "Keepin' It Real" written by Prudence Carter, a large group of African American and Latino students are asked questions and are shadowed to better understand the culture and the struggles they face every day. The students are asked questions about their family and their opinions on life. Carter shadows them from time to time to experience what they do to get a better understanding of their life and struggles. Carter used the phrase "acting white" to express how the African American and Latino students, in her study, view other students who act and dress outside their culture. When a student speaks using standard English, they are thought to be "acting white" because they have rejected the use of black English. When a student goes to school and is seen to being wearing clothes that are deemed "preppy", they are said to be "acting white". The American Dream is everyone in the U.S to have equal opportunities and be treated the same and not be discriminated. The roadblocks to the American Dream was to succeed and not give up regardless of the situation and shouldn't judge a person by their appearance or actions. To succeed in life was to get a good education in schools, therefore you can get a well–paid job. The Article, "Does the American Dream even exist in your ZIP Code," by Jonathan Cohn, he talks about the positive and negative sides of income mobility and argues about the location. Income mobility and location determine the living standers and success of education because where they lived was part of their success in life. In the other article "Unequal opportunities: Race and Education," by Linda Darling–Hammond, she states about the inequalities they had toward the students and their success. Darling–Hammond correlated two different races: White and African Americans, to know the opportunities they had while growing up, and to see how educated, they were in school because the school students attended was all based on their education. The only solution for students in the American dream to succeed on their life's by having equal opportunities. In both articles, education was important because that was their way up to success and be able to get a well–paid job. Everyone getting treated the same and having the same opportunities will make them successful. In Cohn's and Darling–Hammond, inequality was a major issue in the united states, because without a good education it was difficult for one to achieve in their life's. The Inequality made it hard for people in American to succeed. According to Cohn article, "Does the American Dream even exist in your ZIP Code," he stated about the American dream and the income mobility but also argues about location. All Star Figurative Language The song, "All Star" by Smash mouth is about how it's ok to be different because no one can succeed by being normal and average. This theme is represented many times throughout the song with metaphors and some imagery with a little personification. These examples express this theme by saying funny and childish sayings to explain a more powerful meaning. The theme "being different is ok" is shown throughout the song by using literary devices. Firstly, Steve Harwell sings "I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed" to express that he isn't perfect and that he's not the best. He follows this with the saying "you'll never shine if you don't glow" and that means that you'll never succeed if you don't stick out or in other words you'll never succeed if ... • 73. My Reflection Of Life : My Importance Of Success In Life "To succeed in life, you need three things: a backbone, a wishbone, and a funny bone" (McEntire). Quotes like these help you step back and evaluate yourself and your life to see if yours fits. I know that I did that myself when I thought about it. You also have to break them down to see what they really mean. When you break them down, you can really see what each piece means so hopefully you can understand. "To succeed in life, you need...a backbone..." (McEntire). My interpretation of "...you need...a backbone..." (McEntire), really is just that you need a strong work ethic. I believe that if you do not do your own work, and you depend on everyone else doing your work for you, then you will not be able to do the work yourself when it really counts. A personal example of this would be one of my friends. I have known him for at least three years now, and since I have known him, he has always been willing to do his own work, and never had an issue. This year, he has started to really goof off, and not really care about his work. He then looks at me as if he expects me to give him the answers because I have them. I just have gotten to the point of telling him that I cannot give him the answers because it is cheating, and because he will not know how to do the work when he is required to do it later on a test. I believe that it is not right to agree to give him the answers because he still is not going to know how to do anything for himself. Plus, if you think about it, there will ... • 75. In Defense Of Failure, By Mark Anshel We have all failed at something in life. Whether it be tests, projects, sports, or closing a business deal, everyone will experience crippling failure at some point in their life. Depending on how hard the fall is, getting back up from a fail in anything can be a bit arduous. According to the article In Defense of Failure, "America allows room for its citizens to fail – and if they don't succeed, to try and try again" (Megan Ardle). This shows that when we permit anyone to make room for failure, we gain insight on how to make the next step on leading people to success at any given task. As the paralyzing pressure of molding to the ways of society rise, more people strain themselves trying to attain success based on other people's past achievements. This can put a high amount of pressure on anyone to live up to someone else instead of going out and achieving their own success story. If society became more tolerable of failure, more people may actually try to get back up and succeed on their own account. Failing in various areas in life can give people a negative outlook on their own achievements. When failure strikes, people can become discouraged by their lack of achievements and give up. According to In Praise of Failure: The Value of Overcoming Mistakes in Sports and in Life by Mark Anshel, the author was a failure in numerous activities he wrote about in his book. " I am not a failure (as a person); I failed at something" (Ashnel). This is a positive perspective on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
