How Did The Franco Regime Support The Spanish Government
The Spanish government and establishment were possibly the Franco regimes strongest tools in asserting the regime's authority over the Spanish
people. A new government was established after the Spanish Civil War with a new main state party, new laws, and a new political system. Franco was
so well–established at the end of the Spanish Civil Warthat no political opposition stood a chance, including the Falange. In order to create a stable
system of political power in Spain, the Falange was fulfilled as a secondary partner in the Spanish government. With this partnership, they were forced
to support regime's policies without any say in the policy The regime's government developed more stability and power after the Falange (now

The Spanish economy was near desolated after the Spanish Civil War. Thousands of workers had been killed, businesses were destroyed, and the
economic infrastructure was extremely weakened. The Franco Regime first began to impose economic power in Spain's economy through the
construction of a government controlled trade union. The Spanish Trade Union Organization, also known as the Vertical Syndicate, was established
in 1940 (Preston, 1994). It took away workers free will by forcing workers and owners together according to corporative principles (Graham, 2016).
The Vertical Syndicate was established as the only legal trade union, all other trade unions were banned and intensely suppressed. Establishments like
these, powered with Franco's regime control, kept the people restricted and poor during the 40's and 50's. Positive change wouldn't come to the
Spanish Economy until after 1959 when the US and IMF pressured Spain to adopt a free

A New Middle Class Government And The Declaration Of The...

Final Research Paper
From the election of a new middle class government and the declaration of the Second Spanish Republic in 1931 until the outbreak of the Spanish
Civil War in 1936, Spanish society struggled to establish a stable, representativedemocracy for only the second time in its long political history. With
the spread of industrialization, the rise of a new working class, and the emergence of a new era of political movements, ideals, and philosophical
ideologies or "isms" throughout Europe and the United States–communism, socialism, marxism, anarchism, fascism, etc., Spanish society grappled to

The war also embroiled many other European and world nations and pitted supporters and opponents of democracy, fascism, communism, and anarchy
against each other in what many critics have labeled a prelude to World War II. TheSpanish Civil War, choking the unity of the United States,
exacerbated already present political and public rifts of the nation, bringing into question the claimed neutrality of America throughout the three–year
war. Although the Spanish Republican government had been democratically elected and the Nationalist side was allied with and receiving support
from Mussolini's Italy and Hitler's Germany, who guaranteed a Franco victory along as a result of their support rather than supporting the Republic, the
American government approved an official Act of Neutralityi. US diplomatic officials in Spain were even told to refrain from any interference with the
unfortunate Spanish situation.ii The United States viewed their role in the conflict as one of keeping Democratic European nations from embarrassing
themselves in the attempt to "localize the Spanish Civil War."iii Although Germany and Italy officially agreed to this stance of non
–intervention,
German aircraft was used to bomb the innocent Republican town of Guernica, murdering 800 townsfolk, mostly women and children, while the
majority of the town's men were away working in the fields.iv The city, too small to be of any military threat to

Bodybuilding In The 1970's
The 1970's was a major time period for bodybuilding, some say the most important time period for this sport. From the best bodybuilder ever to live
breaking records and winning titles to poems about the life of a bodybuilder. The main topic for this essay is American Culture in the 70s but to
summarize it down, bodybuilding is what the topic is because without the 70s, bodybuilding would not be as popular as it is today. Arnold
Schwarzenegger is the best bodybuilder known to man. Reason is because he had the drive, the determination , the mind set to never give up and
always keep pushing yourself. The 70s was the biggest time period for him because he won his Mr.Olympia 7 times in a row. In the 70s people were
confused about bodybuilders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The 1970s was a unique time in the American Culture that when examined casts a view that takes place in American society. Bodybuilding was a
major thing in this decade from the film "Pumping Iron" having a major role in bodybuilding to racial, citizen roles Arnold and Franco and just every
other non citizen had to face with. But it showed how there is and can be success in the United States if you set your mind to something a do it
and never give up on yourself and never quit grinding and always stay hungry. Bodybuilding too many is addicting and they can't stop grinding, for an
example, Arnold and Franco at the ages of 70 years old are still in their old gym "Gold's Gym" which bodybuilder Ken Waller who was is in " Pumping
Iron " owns Gold's Gym and runs it still this day. So if there was a message in this essay it would be to never give up, always push your self and never

The Role And Image Of Women
Throughout Spain's history, the role and image of women have been shaped by the ideals set forth by the traditional and devout Catholic political
authority. After the changes that followed the death of dictator Francisco Franco, the female role in Spain has been just as much in transition as the
nation's political system. This time of transition would serve as an opportunity where Spanish women could reclaim their identity and show that they
were just as deserving of their individual rights as men. This change would go beyond the political sphere and mainstream pop culture would also
begin to show clear depictions of Spanish women transitioning into their new, independent role in society. Carmen Maura is a Spanish actress that
was heavily involved in portraying the transitioning Spanish woman during the later stages of the transitional period and beyond. Particularly, her
roles as Pepa in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) and Julia in Common Wealth (2000) would prove to be two of her most
acclaimed performances while also being two performances that portray the idea of the transitioning Spanish woman on the viewers. The two movies
were made twelve years apart from each other, which is a considerable amount of time where the Spanish women continued to change. So, the two
characters that Carmen Maura portrays can be interpreted as visual examples of a transforming Spain, where its women faced radical changes in two
different, post–Franco time periods.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Spanish Civil War
The twentieth century saw more proxy wars than any time in human history; great powers would flex their martial muscles in smaller theatres of
conflict in order to test their own strengths and weaknesses without risking their international reputation as an aggressive nation. The Spanish Civil
War served as a significant proxy for the totalitarian European powers in the interwar period; Fascist Italy andNazi Germany would support the
right–wing nationalists while the Soviet Union and various International Brigades would back the alliance of the Republican government and
Anarcho–communist organizations. Spain would serve as a testing ground for the armed forces of the European totalitarian states in which major
military and ideological support would be given to the Spanish belligerents. In spite of initial setbacks in the initial military coup, Francisco Franco
would eventually crush the Republican–Anarchist opposition and maintain authoritarian control of Spain for decades. His success was due in large
part to the interests of Hitler and Mussolini in creating a friendly state in the Iberian Peninsula. Through contributions of manpower, military advisors
and materiel from the Nazis and Fascists, Nationalist Spain was able to take advantage of the less–organized and squabbling Republican government
forces. La Guerra Civil was the culmination of a century of turmoil in Spain. The Spanish monarchy would be abolished in 18XX, with its Savoyard
King famously declaring the

Spanish Civil War: The Struggle Between Fascism and...
The Spanish civil war of 1936–1939 was an important conflict in Spain's history. This war was initiated by a military revolt led by General Francisco
Franco on the 17 July 1936 and ended with Franco's victory on the 1 April, 1939. This victory resulted in the replacement of the Second Spanish
Republic with the conservative dictatorship of Franco. This conflict triggered the clash of the various cultures and ideologies within Spain. One
important example of an ideological clash was that of Communism versus Fascism. This clash was so important that, based on an analysis of the level
of involvement of Fascist and Communist factions in said clash, one must concede that the conflict between Communism and Fascism was represented

She did so in October 1936 via large shipments of: tanks and tank operators, airplanes and pilots, artillery, armored vehicles, rifles, grenade launchers,

states via implication that Soviet Russia also mobilized international brigades of infantry to fight for the republic through the Comintern. The
Comintern mobilized tens of thousands of men to join these brigades. The Soviets hadn't sent any of their own troops as Joseph Stalin, the Soviet
dictator, was trying to avoid a war with Germany and Italy. Another pro–communist faction that partook in this civil war was the popular Front
Government of France. This faction had provided very little substantial support to her sister regime as the French coalition was divided about whether
or not to grant this support. This division is because of the fact that although the Prime Minister, Leon Blum, wanted to support the republicans there
were those in his coalition who feared war with Germany and Italy. The fact that Britain didn't approve of sending the Republicans aid was another
reason for why so little was sent. As a result of this division and British disapproval Blum proposed a non–intervention agreement be signed by the
European powers on the 25 July 1936. This treaty was not helpful to the Spanish Republic as Italy and Germany

Hamlet Film Analysis
Over the course of the past fifty years there have been many cinematic productions of Shakespeare's Hamlet, some of which remain true to the text
while others take greater liberties from the original format. Director Kenneth Branagh's 1996 production of Hamlet was true to Shakespeare's work in
that the films dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the text. In contrast, Franco Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamlet
in a much more liberal direction in which lines, scenes and characters were omitted from film. I argue that from the perspective of an individual with
moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film versions of Hamlet are those that take the most liberties from the text. I concur that
the following elements reflect the level of liberty taken in regards to the text and that these elements determine which film is the best; changes to
dialogue, changes to plot, presence of theme portrayal of emotions and the setting.
In 1996 Kenneth Branagh starred as Hamlet in his self–directed version of the play. Branagh's script for the film was fiercely loyal to Shakespeare's
original words which resulted in a four hour cinematic experience. The immense amount of dialogue was delivered rapidly and added a layer of
complexity which effected the audience's ability to analyze and comprehend the story line. A lack of understanding is problematic as it contributes to a
loss of character development as well as confusion within the

The film Endless Love is a romance directed by Shana Feste in 2014 about 17 year–old Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde) who meets and falls in love

Despite leaving in a few familiar moments (there is still a love scene with a fireplace). Alex Pettyfer and Jaime King lookalike Gabriella and Wilde
play the main teen lovebirds, who, unlike the original lovebirds, fall in love AFTER they graduate high school. And instead of David comes from an
affluent family and Jade is the product of a bohemian household, this has Jade as the introverted daughter of rich parents while David is the son of a
single, grease monkey dad.
Safe and predictable, there is nothing remotely surprising (and, therefore, interesting) about this rudimentary remake. The movie is so simple and
sappy in its plotting that it seems more suited for the Hallmark Channel than the big screen. It also doesn't take much to see that it's sampling more
of the work of Nicholas Sparks than Spencer's book. Since there isn't a movie adaptation of a Sparks novel coming out this February, as it seems to be
the case every year, this movie jumps on this opportunity and envisions how Sparks would've handled "Love" if he wrote it.
To watch and enjoy Endless Love one must overcome the sappy love story of pretty teens with clear heads and endless romantic thoughts and
feelings. Everyone else will be rolling their eyes at the predictability of every bogus twist. Endless Love might as well be one long montage of longing
gazes, tender kisses, and lovers splashing in water falling in love. We never get a sense of why the two are drawn to each other. They rarely

Pablo Picasso : One Of The Most Popular Cubist Paintings...
Pablo Picasso is one of the most popular Cubist painters in the 20th century. Guernica being one of his most popular and power paintings has not just
only left its mark in the 20th century but in present day. This painting is based off an horrific event that occurred on April 27, 1937. This day is the
dreadful day in which Hitler's German air force bombed the village Guernica in Northern Spain. 1600 innocent civilians were either wounded or
killed. This mission was specialized to test out new bombing tactics. Due to this event he expressed his outrage against war through a non–harmful
mural. He believed that this was the best way in protest against war. He believed that this was the best way in influencing a great amount of people to
stand beside him. He believed that this was a way in which humans can understand that war is part of human nature.
In response to the social and political belief in its historical time period, at this time a civil war began between the Democratic Republican government
and fascist forces led by General Francisco Franco attempting to overthrow them. He depicts this in the painting by drawing out a bull and a horse.
Although, he uses bulls and horses in many of his other paintings such as minotauromachy, to symbolize life and death rituals of the spanish
bullfightings he saw as a child. This painting is a bit peculiar. The bull and horse symbolize republican fighters (horse) and Francos army (bull). In the
painting you can see that the bull is

Comparing Zeffirelli and Luhrmann's Versions of Romeo and...
"For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo."
– William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, 5.3
'Romeo and Juliet' is a tragic play about two star crossed lovers written by Shakespeare in 1595. The play is a timeless teenage tradgedy. "The play
champions the 16th Century belief that true love always strikes at first sight," (Lamb 1993: Introduction) and even in modern times an audience still
want to believe in such a thing as love at first sight. Act II Scene II the balcony scene displays that romantic notion perfectly.
"The most filmed of all plays, 'Romeo and Juliet', with its universal themes... remains uniquely adaptable for any time period," (Botnick, 2002).

Luhrman has based his version at Verona Beach; America and instead of basing it in the 16th century like Zeffirelli, he had his film based in the 20th
century, with mansions, shiny cars and bright lights. While Zeffirelli paced his film in an Iambic pentameter– a traditional Shakespeare pace;
Luhrman never kept his film at a solid pace. "By modernizing these aspects of the play, and reconstructing the prologue, Luhrmann creates a movie that
is more interesting to the modern viewers." ("Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet." 123HelpMe.com). As Zeffirelli may have
believed famous actors would steal his show he instead hired fresh new faces to give the movie a more fresh, innocence value, But Luhrman used
well known actors to play the lead roles. This worked because more people were attracted to the film by the actors.
Zeffirelli used symbols to help capture his audience. Some were subtle, others were meant to get the audiences attention. For example Romeo
climbing over the high wall to reach Juliet's balcony was a subtle symbol showing the heights and challenges he would face for true love, and even
the fact the scene was set on a balcony overlooking an orchid which was may have been meant to symbolise the 'natural love' or 'green' being fresh and
inexperienced. Some more prominent symbols were used, such as Juliet's particular costume in this scene, a symbol

Francisco Franco Bahamonde : The Civil Of The Sacred Heart

an upper middle class Roman Catholic. Until the age of 12, Francisco attended El Ferrol's Roman Catholic School of the Sacred Heart, a small
private school run by a priest; he would then attend a naval secondary school. His family was very involved in the Spanish Navy, for six uninterrupted
generations, almost two centuries, the Franco Family produced several naval officers. It was generally assumed that Francisco would follow in his
family's footsteps, however, in 1906–1913 the Spanish government suspended admissions at Academia de Marina (The Naval Academy) due to
shortages in funding. Francisco would no longer have the chance to follow in his family's footsteps, instead he began to attend Academia de InfanterГa

the Spanish Army as a second lieutenant. He was briefly stationed in Ferrol, but he then volunteered for active duty in Spanish Morocco, during 1912.

Sanity: Boundaries of the Mind Essay
Sanity: Boundaries of the Mind
The mind is a beautiful thing. The boundaries that someone can extend their rationality is different in each and every person. In Shakespeare's Hamlet,
the balance of sanity and madness is tested. Hamlet's way of thinking is changed, but in a way that his personality is only a front. By looking at the
different events that Hamlet overcame, we can observe the passion for acting that many readers do not come across; knowing the importance of acting is
imperative when questioning Hamlet's sanity, since he is only acting insane, and is rational and in control of himself throughout the play.

All along Hamlet had been trying to prove that Claudius has killed King Hamlet and the play was the perfect way to do it. The
"Mouse–trap" is about the murder of a king, meant to be King Hamlet, and the murder was of a king dying by poison being put into his ear, exactly
the way that Claudius had killed King Hamlet. Hamlet wanted to see the guilty reaction of Claudius and hope that everyone would then know the
truth. In act III scene ii, Hamlet is discussing the play with the actors. From the beginning of the play, Hamlet has been acing insane, and this
moment shows that excellent acting ability. Before the play commences, Hamlet is giving the players tips and advice on acting and how the play
should be read. He tells the players to "Speak the speech I pray you as pronounced it to you, /trippingly in the tongue, but if you mouth it as many of

very believable and as real as possible. Hamlet is trying to make the play come to life in a way that people can see that the actors are portraying real
life. After Hamlet gives the players the lesson, a question comes to mind; what would Hamlet know about acting? When Hamlet starts giving the
players tips and advice about how to act, it shows that he

Franco Zefferelli's film Hamlet
Franco Zefferelli's film, Hamlet, adapted from Shakespeare's text, Mel Gibson's Hamlet, struts and frets his life in Denmark, convincing almost
everyone that he is "mad." The film bases the question of whether or not Hamlet is actually insane almost solely on Gibson's acting interpretations, but
Zefferelli's editing choices assist in making the point that Hamlet is not insane, but either in a fog of confusion and anger from his grief, or pretending to
be mad to manipulate others.
In the film, the morning after Hamlet sees his father's ghost, there is a silent scene between Ophelia and Hamlet. He appears to Ophelia, disheveled and
obviously emotionally distressed. He seems to try to say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The play within a play succeeds at catching "the conscience of the King" (3.1.582). In the film, Hamlet dances exultantly with the players and says to
Horatio joyfully, "I'll take the Ghost's word for a thousand pound" (3.2.263–4). Claudius' reaction to the play of running out and then going to
confession makes Hamlet believe that Claudius did, in fact, murder King Hamlet. In the final two acts of the film, Mel Gibson rarely descends into
fits of rage and depression. Instead, he puts on the act of madness by appearing playful or irrational around other characters to help him in the process
of revenge.
Hamlet abuses Polonius' assumption that Hamlet is "mad" by constantly behaving as such around him. In the film, he appears disheveled, engages in
wordplay, and even throws Polonius off a ladder. Mel Gibson's acting choices make it clear that Hamlet is merely pretending because, as soon as
Polonius is out of sight, he usually has a ponderous soliloquy devoid of the mad mannerisms present with Polonius. This manipulation is especially
present in the scene in which Hamlet tells Ophelia that he never loved her (3.1). In the film, Hamlet sees the king, queen, and Polonius run to hide and
watch the conversation. During the scene, Hamlet tells Ophelia sotto voce, "I did love you once" (3.1.116). Then, he yells, "I loved you not"
(3.1.119–120). Gibson's change in volume and tone of voice proves that he is not fickle, a

Social, Economic and Political Factors Involved in the Spanish Civil War
With reference to any civil war in the 20th century examine the social, economic and political background to the divisions in the society involved. To
what extent were the problems which caused the war resolved in the post–war period?
The state of Spain during the early years of the 20th century can be said to have been a state of great "unease". Spain was one of the first powers to
loose her imperial influence, the state was politically unstable, industrially weak and had suffered some humiliating defeats. It can be said that these
were the main causes that lead to the great instability of

These financial and political, as well as social difficulties led his regime to end in 1930 because it was unable to stop the attacks from the left, as well
as attacks from the reluctant military (who did not like his ideas of officer minimalisation).
The next elections were won by the republicans, led by Azana, without too much difficulty. The Republic lasted 8 years before another military coup,
led by general Franco, took over the government.
The Republic tried to set out major reforms, intending to restructure the whole of Spain. The eight–hour working day was set up, as well as a reduction
of officers in the armed forces (by the form of early retirement). Voting rights were given to people at the age of 23, the nobility was abolished and,
severe measures were taken against the Church, especially religious education (considered, in a way, a form of propaganda). The region of Catalonia
was given some self–governing privileges, like the control of it's own police. The problem was that these reforms seemed to be too severe to the
right–winged opposition and the privileged classes.
So in 1933, Azana's government fell after being defeated by the general elections. The new government was actually a series of coalitions which set out
to undo all the reforms produced by the former republican government. This lead to conflicts between

The Revolutions Of The French Revolution
The revolutions that occurred in France and Spain were in different time periods and sought to change their country in different ways. Despite this,
there are many parallels in the ideologies and histories of their revolutionary leaders. Looking at this, one might ask how the backgrounds and styles of
the leaders affected the outcome of each revolution? Napoleon Bonaparte of the French Revolution (hereafter Napoleon) and Francisco Franco of the
Spanish Civil War (hereafter Franco) came from similar backgrounds with a heavy influence on education andmilitary training. Both men fought with
a primary motivation of forming a military dictatorship under their rule. One notable area that where they differed is in their leadership: Franco led
through fear and intimidation whereas Napoleon led by gaining the respect of his people. With respect to their backgrounds, Francisco Franco and
Napoleon Bonaparte came from middle–class families and went on to establish themselves as leaders in military school. Franco was born in "El
Ferrol, a small naval base in northwestern Spain," in Galicia. It is said that the "stereotypical Galician man... is melancholic, soft–spoken, and prudent."
Because of this, many Spaniards argue that Franco's background in Galicia played a huge role in the type of leader he later became. His father,
NicolГЎs Franco, held a "high–level administrative position" in the Galician region that Franco grew up in. Franco came from a "family with a

Third Residence, published in 1947, which expresses Neruda's artistic camaraderie; his love for Spanish poetry which he believes unites the coloniser
with its colony. It was written as an outraged reaction to the civil strife and political murders in Spain. It was inspired by Ruben Dario (1867 – 1916),
a Latin American poet who wrote politically charged verses. Neruda was livid and pained at the death of his friend, Garcia Lorca and a number of
other Republicans at the hands of anti–democratic Fascist forces. He tells us: "The most intense memories, perhaps, are those of my life in Spain...

The First line of the poem 'Jaut and dry Spain was' sums up the poet's suffering without any succor. Through a series of pictures and images the poet
captures the atmosphere of those days. In the second stanza of the poem the poet records his personal attitude towards Spain:

'How unto cry
out, unto the very soul
I love your barren soil and your rough bread,
Your stricken people'

Deep inside his heart the poet can still feel
the life that has disappeared. He still finds the essential Spain to be timeless which no political turmoil can ever change. He remembers the mineral
wealth of the country. Somehow, he feels, all this has been undone by a cruel and unfeeling god.
The poem presents a picture of Spain, historically
rich and glorious but torn by strife at that time. The poet mourns the glorious past but at the same time emphasizes with the suffering of its stricken
people. Silence and isolation are reiterated in the poem. The contrast inherent in the situation has been brought out by the description of the wine that is
both harsh and sweet, and again in the reference to the vineyards which are both delicate and

The Origin Of Spain's Current Economic Crisis
On the Origin of Spain's current Economic Crisis
The economy of Spain has taken a downturn in 2011 since the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Unlike the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, where
Spain was a global empire, modern Spain is facing a very stagnant economy. Spain's "unemployment rate reached a record of 27 percent" in 2011. This
shows that more than 1 in 5 Spaniards is struggling to feed their family. Luckily, things had gotten better. The October 2015 unemployment report
shows that the number of those who are not working is down to 21.2 percent according to "Spain's unemployment falls, and Rajoy's prospects Rise" by
Raphael Minder. The increase in jobs was mostly seasonal; and created only by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The moors took over Spain in the year 711, starting with the fall of Granada. But the tension between religious group continue to grow until the rise of
the Cid, when the Christian regains full control of Spain (Poem of the Cid); but even then, Spain's economy was not as great as the fifteen and sixteen
century, because the conflict between between Spaniard of different belief might have slowed down the trading of goods, which predict Spain's current
economic turnover as the country is struggling to put its people to work.
Spain's historical glory did not prevent it from current economic crisis. Spain was the first global empire in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Spanish emperor traded across the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. Spain also owned vast territories in North and South America, as well as part of Africa.
The Spanish empire became the most prominent superpower, dominating most of the world. This allowed Spanish people at the time to enjoy a cultural
golden age during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries; but this glorious moment did not last longer to prevent Spain's current economic downfall.
Despite suffering an economic downturn, Spanish empire remained the largest in the world until the eighteenth centuries.
The Civil War causes Spain's global power to drop as their economy decreases, until the day Francisco Franco took over in 1939. Franco ruled Spain

Socialist Party's Transition
The Socialist Party's contributions to the transition played a major role in these negotiated pacts. The PSOE's original party platform was Marxism and
democratic rupture. Democratic rupture declared the removal of remnants of Francoism from the government that included the 'bunker.' Felipe
GonzГЎlez and the Vice–Secretary General Alfonso Guerra led the change in the PSOE's change in policy. GonzГЎlez, Guerra, and their supporters
within the socialist party argued the party's slogan should not use Marxism. For GonzГЎlez, the success of SuГЎrez and his policies on amnesty, free

Comparing Zeffirelli's Romeo And Juliet
Oftentimes, a writer or director wants to change a book into a movie or TV show. When doing this, he/she has the option of sticking to the original
story line or changing significant details. Franco Zeffirelli chose the latter when making his film Romeo and Juliet. He strengthened the plot that came
from William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet such as the love between Romeo and Juliet and the hatred of their families, but,
ultimately, when remaking Shakespeare's play, Zeffirelli left the audience confused about why Romeo is our tragic hero and what happened between
the families after the two lovers die.
Zeffirelli improves upon some scenes from the play by adding more detail and giving the audience a good visualization. Throughout the play,

Shakespeare delivers this scene in a way that does not truly explain what Mercutio was doing to the Nurse. In contrast, the film enhances this scene by
truly showing the audience just how much of an important character the Nurse is. He does this by incorporating her into the scenes after serious
moments, such as after Romeo asks Friar Lawrence to marry him and Juliet he has Mercutio mock the Nurse. Comedic scenes, like the one's played by
the Nurse, are important to keep the audience's attention. Furthermore, in the play, Shakespeare describes the party scene where Romeo and Juliet fall
in love with each others physical appearances (1.5.43–52) to be much less passionate and meaningful

Hamlet Film Comparison
Hamlet Film Comparison
William Shakespeare's Hamlet, a play that has been turned into films numerous times by many directors, is one of the most admired plays written by
Shakespeare. Kenneth Branagh and Franco Zeffirelli are both known for their adaptations of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. They have both created
two completely different and unique films from the same widely known play. Based on the interpretation of the Ghost, the character of Ophelia, as well
as Hamlet's "To be or not to be" speech, Franco Zeffirelli's adaption of Hamlet proves to be significantly superior toKenneth Branagh's film.

In Zeffirelli's adaptation, Ophelia is constantly being portrayed as small and fragile. For instance, she is shot from a high angle, making her appear
more defenseless and powerless. Zeffirelli's choice of casting Helena Bonham Carter as Ophelia reinforces the idea of innocence since she appears to
be very young and naГЇve. Throughout the film, Ophelia is constantly being shown separate from everyone else, which hints at her impending
insanity in the hands of Hamlet. By leaving Ophelia and killing her father, Hamlet causes her to be truly isolated and alone. Close to the end,
Zeffirelli shows Ophelia as an unstable girl driven mad by Hamlet's cruel tactics and her father's murder. When Gertrude sees Ophelia through the
window, she sees how truly mad she has become. Dressed in dirty rags and speaking nonsense, her innocence seems to be lost when she acts in a
sexual manner towards one of the guards by grabbing his belt. As Ophelia sings during the mad scene, Gertrude is very clearly frightened by what she
sees. The camera close–ups also separate Ophelia from everyone else by showing the singular response of everyone to her madness. Her loneliness and
irrational behaviours causes the audience to empathize with Ophelia. Although the effect that she has on the film is overall very emotional, she makes
the audience see Hamlet in an unflattering light as the one who drove her to madness. Ophelia brings about the idea of crumbling innocence, thus
making this scene more

The Roles Of King Juan Carlos I De BorbГіn's Success
In the twentieth and twenty–first century the number of democratic countries have increased around the world. According to Britannica, the increase
was due to the failure of democratic alternatives and the worldwide growth of free market economies. The growth in the free market economies
increased decentralization and removed economic power for political leaders. Perhaps, one of the more interesting democratic transitions occurred
between 1975–1981, in Spain. In this case, the role of King Juan Carlos I de BorbГіn and his leadership were critical factors in the relatively peaceful,
yet difficult transition from the previous, authoritarian regime. Juan Carlos I played an integral role in maintaining the participation of both the left

begging of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet there is a small television screen within the viewers television screen, all the surrounding area is

Political Differences Between Football And Football
"Politics doesn't belong in football" is what I heard my Dad say as a Jeremy Corbyn banner was raised in the kop. "I watch football to get away from
Politics" is a comment I saw in /r/soccer and that got me thinking, isn't football the worst place to come to get away from politics.
I want to start with my overall point. Politics and Football are intricately intertwined. Politics often manifests itself through Football, whilst Football
has also been used for political propaganda. One of the ways this is achieved is through local and national identities becoming associated and
represented by Football clubs. This brings us to the first example of politics being intertwined with Football with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The club not only has become enriched with a political background, but in fact their biggest rivalry and possibly the biggest rivalry in the world has its
political roots. El Clasico is a rivalry defined by distance, the distance between what the two clubs stand for and represent. With Madrid representing
Spanish nationalism and Barcelona representing Catalan nationalism.
During the Franco regime Catalans saw Madrid as a tool Franco would use to humiliate the city in another domain. The example most cited in the
book BarГ§a was the 1943 Copa Del Rey. BarГ§a held a 3–0 lead going into the second leg, with a few controversial decisions. The home fans who
would boo the officials would be labeled in the media as 'enemies of the Spanish stat'. Rumoured in this book

Pablo Picasso's Guernic Close Visual Analysis
Utilising, "The Study Diamond: effects, techniques, context and meaning" (The Open University, 2013, p. 76), this essay will argue through close
visual analysis from an art history point of view that Picasso's Guernica is a form of protest. The essay will also argue that Guernica's meaning has
changed to include becoming a symbol of peace and continues to fulfil its purpose as a form of protest.
A large mural, Guernica is an example of Synthetic Cubism painted by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973). Created using the medium of oil paint on canvas
with a narrow palette consisting of the neutral hues: white, grey and black; the formalist qualities of Guernica can have harrowing effects on the
spectator, "But to see it in real life, in its full size, is an even stronger emotional experience. Some people have said they experienced an instant rush of
many powerful, fearful emotions" (The Open University, 2016, Block 3, 2.2.2).
Stark colour value distribution in Guernica's figures creates the effect of palpable tension. Correspondingly, light grey contrasts with a dark grey or
black background. A feature of Synthetic Cubism, "There ... colours are muted, often virtually monochromatic greys or browns." Clarke (cited in The
Open University, 2016, Block 3, 2.2.4). The doorway at the centre of Guernica depicts a figure carrying a lamp illuminating a scene of carnage within.
This distinct contrast of colour enhances the effect of Guernica's dark corners and can evoke feelings of impending doom.

Summary Of ' El Caudillo '
El Caudillo
There has been plenty of stories about men in history but none like the one of Francisco Paulino Hermenegildo TeГіdulo Franco Bahamonde. Francisco
came to power promptly after the start of the Spanish Civil War. He led the Nationalist Army to victory. After the war ended in 1939, Franco held
complete control of Spain. His administration was similar to a Fascist autocracy. He carried out the functions of chief of state, prime minister,
commander in chief, and leader of the Falange. In this, he adopted the title of El Caudillo, "the leader". Although a fairly recent figure in Spain's history,
Francisco Franco played a significant role in Spain during his time and in the years since.
Francisco was born on December 4, 1892 in the naval town El Ferrol in the Galician region. His parents were NicolГЎs and Pilar Bahamonde and he
had four siblings, one of which died in early childhood. Franco's parents were complete opposites. His father was a drunkard and a womanizer, had
no religious interests, rejected conventional moral values and when at home was strict and bad tempered, and when Francisco joined the Infantry
Academy, his father left the family for good. However, his mother was loving and supporting, and passed on the belief of hard work and dedication.
She was also a very religious, Catholic woman in which she passed on her Catholic–conservative values that Francisco portrayed later in his life
(Jensen 4). His two older brothers grew up to be similar to his father,

Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples
Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have gone by, there have been made many movies
produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of the play occurred. This allows the film director's interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect
on the audience's understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director. One of the most significant act and scene
in the whole play is Act I Scene V. The film work ofHamlet orchestrated by the director really focuses on being exactly as the written play by William

In movie version of Hamlet there is a lot of emphasis put into the feelings Hamlet has towards his mother. During the movie, there is lot of physical
presence shown on screen when Hamlet and his Gertrude begin to argue. The interpretation of Franco Zeffirelli propose that further plot development
due to the fact that Hamlet's character is being given more internal conflict to overcome, which also connects to the hypothesis that Gibson's Hamlet is
stronger, both physically and mentally, in comparison to the original Hamlet.
Also, Gibson's Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger
than one would imagine them from Shakespeare's original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the "heavy–headed revel"
that causes other nations to "clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase" (Hamlet I.iv.21–23). Shakespeare's Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking
about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his excessive drinking and partying. However, Gibson's Hamlet shows an efficiently
operating town with broken barriers between social classes and small gardens and farms. In the original Hamlet not a lot of information is given about
the general public, but what is known is that Hamlet does not mix with paupers except for the traveling theater group. The two pictures of Hamlet's

Essay on Spanish Cinema After the Dictatorship in 1975
Spanish cinema has gained much recognition since the end of the countries dictatorship in 1975. One of the main reasons behind this recognition is
due to creative control now being in the hands of film makers, such as Pedro AlmodГіvar, Fernando Trueba and
Guillermo Del Toro in the late 20th century and early 21st century. These directors have created films which dealt with themes of nationality and
national history, such as Todo sobre mi madre (Pedro AlmodГіvar, 1999) and Pan's Labyrinth (Guillermo Del Toro, 2006).

dictated by the government, audiences within Spain distanced themselves from the early
Spanish films in the 1940's due to the historical significance of the films and that they did not include modern traits such a fashion and setting. This

Bullfighting Essay In Spanish
Bullfighting originates back to 700 A.D. in Spain. It started as an activity for the King's crowning. It was later turned to a ceremonial event for the
upper class. The status of bullfighting changed when King Felipe V thought it brought a negative attention to his family. Because the people of
Spain had grown accustomed to the event, the commoners took it on as a sport. This event or sport has special equipment, participants, structure,
and purpose. Each piece of equipment used plays an important role in the ceremony. The traje de luces is the matador's costume. It is made with

The prologue gives the audience helpful information on the latest goings on in Verona, which helps to fill you in on what is happening. As the
prologue continues I become aware of the original Shakespearian language that is used, " The fearful passage of their death–marked love." The use of
opposition within the text is effective in conveying the contrast between Romeo and Juliet and the two families. As well as this, death and love are
opposites that don't normally feature in the same sentence, causing a strong, instant effect on the audience. Although the Luhrmann film has a modern
setting and opens with a news anchorwoman reading the prologue from the play, it is read in one go and there is nothing offered to the viewer to make
it clearer. It seems that Luhrmann wants to set up a traditional presentation of the words so that when his vision appears it is even more explosive.
Although Luhrmann works hard at communicating the text, the American–speaking actors prove a difficulty. Dialogue is certainly not of prime
importance in this film. In Luhrmann's film the words remain Shakespearean whereas the images are very much in the late 20th century. Using a

William Shakespeare 's Romeo And Juliet
When one thinks of the word "love," the idea of romance often comes to mind.
Therefore, platonic love (non–romantic love) is often forgotten, though it is equally as strong as
its romantic counterpart, and can lead to consequences much more tragic. Such is the case with
William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Despite the dominating romance between the two
young lovers, as the play progresses, one would realize that the platonic love of those around
Romeo and Juliet, though no one can be at fault, is what actually leads the lovers to their ends. In
Franco Zeffirelli's movie rendition of the play, this underlying love is revealed as well and is
shown evidently. Therefore, Zeffirelli manages to portray this love clearly, allowing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This love, however, contributes to
the death of Romeo and Juliet because if Capulet had not delayed the wedding, Juliet would
already be a wife, and would not be able to have a romantic relationship with Romeo. If Juliet
did not have a relationship with Romeo, then neither of them would eventually commit suicide
for each other.
1
Despite Capulet's mistake of trying to protect his daughter, the lovers may still have been
spared from death if not for the love from Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence's mistake is his giving
permission for Romeo to marry Juliet. Even after saying that "Young men's love then lies/ Not
truly in their hearts, but in their eyes" (II, iii, 71–72), he gives permission for the marriage due to
his love, which is shown by his actions (of allowing the marriage), for them and their families, as
he wishes the marriage will end the hatred between the two households. This is demonstrated in
his dialogue when he says: "In one respect I'll thy assistant be...To turn your households' rancor
to pure love" (II, iii, 97–99). If Friar Lawrence had not given them permission to marry, then the
lovers would either have no good reason to continue loving each other and move on (as young
love often fades quickly due to it being based on attractiveness rather than true love), or they
would not be obliged to conform to the roles of a husband and a wife, as one of them doing so
contributes to their demises.

Analysis Of La Lengua De Las Mariposas
La Lengua de las Mariposas, directed by JosГ© Luis Cuerda, is a marvelous and powerful film that explores Spain's past through the lens of education.
Cuerda does this by exhibiting the contrast between the 1931–1936 Republic and the dictatorships that ruled the country just before and after the
Spanish Civil War through the relationship between Moncho, a young boy, and Don Gregorio, his teacher. The film depicts the Republic's aims for a
liberal education and the pressures this produced within the more conservative region of society. Overall this film portrays both the freedom of this
short period in Spain's history and the beginning of Franco's oppressive dictatorship. There are many layers of themes that are subtlety imbedded into
the film. The political theme of the film is a truly intriguing portrayal of life in Spain during this tense time. The underlying message of the film is one
of defending the freedom of expression. It explores the importance of gaining knowledge through one's own personal experiences. Culture is used as a
pathway to achieve personal freedom. In addition, the film attempts to break some of the taboos surrounding an adequate education, focusing instead
on this education through experience. Observation is used as a way to awaken the senses. Another theme that was imbedded in the film was childhood
with the inclusion of a vast number of topics. The film not only contains scenes that deal with war but it includes scenes that include family, love, and

each respective nation, a time of either death or continuation for the countries. Both Whitman and Neruda exibit a key shared element in the poets'
works of the concept of a cosmic rebirth illustrated in their poetry through a celebration of the perpetual cycle of life and death fostering optimism. This
mutual philosophy is manifested in Neruda and Whitman's poetry in several interesting ways. One of the most striking biographical parallels between
the two poets originates from their direct involvement in civil war. Whitman served as a nurse in war hospitals during the American ... Show more

In the section "Arrival in Madrid of the International Brigade" Neruda shows the troops from the international forces arriving in the desolate city of
Madrid. This section mirrors Whitman's Drum Taps section of poetry "Eighteen Sixty–One" which also focuses on the war as it is reaching a critical
point of expansion. Centered on the time of most profound national crisis, the poets use the image of gathering soldiers to validate their cause. The
solider becomes the embodiment of the poets' war philosophies of reconstruction out of destruction. Neruda and Whitman concentrate on the soldier's
sacrifice as requisite for societal salvation.
Each poem reflects the desolation resulting from the beginning stages of the conflict and subsequently presents the gathering soldiers as a reason for
hope. The sections begin submerged in the bleak solemnity of the turmoil of war. This represents a shift from the booming patriotism in the proceeding
section in Drum Taps. Whitman's speaker shifts to a grave tone, lamenting the "Arm'd year–year of struggle, / No dainty rhymes or sentimental love
verses for you terrible year" (lines 1–2). The "terrible year" is replete with the profound disintegration of societal structures as the order of the United
States is destroyed. The gravity presented in "Eighteen Sixty–One" assumes a physical manifestation in "Arrival in Madrid" as Neruda observes the

How Did The Franco Regime Support The Spanish Government

  • 1. How Did The Franco Regime Support The Spanish Government The Spanish government and establishment were possibly the Franco regimes strongest tools in asserting the regime's authority over the Spanish people. A new government was established after the Spanish Civil War with a new main state party, new laws, and a new political system. Franco was so well–established at the end of the Spanish Civil Warthat no political opposition stood a chance, including the Falange. In order to create a stable system of political power in Spain, the Falange was fulfilled as a secondary partner in the Spanish government. With this partnership, they were forced to support regime's policies without any say in the policy The regime's government developed more stability and power after the Falange (now including members ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Spanish economy was near desolated after the Spanish Civil War. Thousands of workers had been killed, businesses were destroyed, and the economic infrastructure was extremely weakened. The Franco Regime first began to impose economic power in Spain's economy through the construction of a government controlled trade union. The Spanish Trade Union Organization, also known as the Vertical Syndicate, was established in 1940 (Preston, 1994). It took away workers free will by forcing workers and owners together according to corporative principles (Graham, 2016). The Vertical Syndicate was established as the only legal trade union, all other trade unions were banned and intensely suppressed. Establishments like these, powered with Franco's regime control, kept the people restricted and poor during the 40's and 50's. Positive change wouldn't come to the Spanish Economy until after 1959 when the US and IMF pressured Spain to adopt a free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A New Middle Class Government And The Declaration Of The... Dylan Johnson APUSH Final Research Paper From the election of a new middle class government and the declaration of the Second Spanish Republic in 1931 until the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, Spanish society struggled to establish a stable, representativedemocracy for only the second time in its long political history. With the spread of industrialization, the rise of a new working class, and the emergence of a new era of political movements, ideals, and philosophical ideologies or "isms" throughout Europe and the United States–communism, socialism, marxism, anarchism, fascism, etc., Spanish society grappled to find common ground between more traditional and conservative political groups–the Catholic church, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The war also embroiled many other European and world nations and pitted supporters and opponents of democracy, fascism, communism, and anarchy against each other in what many critics have labeled a prelude to World War II. TheSpanish Civil War, choking the unity of the United States, exacerbated already present political and public rifts of the nation, bringing into question the claimed neutrality of America throughout the three–year war. Although the Spanish Republican government had been democratically elected and the Nationalist side was allied with and receiving support from Mussolini's Italy and Hitler's Germany, who guaranteed a Franco victory along as a result of their support rather than supporting the Republic, the American government approved an official Act of Neutralityi. US diplomatic officials in Spain were even told to refrain from any interference with the unfortunate Spanish situation.ii The United States viewed their role in the conflict as one of keeping Democratic European nations from embarrassing themselves in the attempt to "localize the Spanish Civil War."iii Although Germany and Italy officially agreed to this stance of non –intervention, German aircraft was used to bomb the innocent Republican town of Guernica, murdering 800 townsfolk, mostly women and children, while the majority of the town's men were away working in the fields.iv The city, too small to be of any military threat to ... • 3. Bodybuilding In The 1970's The 1970's was a major time period for bodybuilding, some say the most important time period for this sport. From the best bodybuilder ever to live breaking records and winning titles to poems about the life of a bodybuilder. The main topic for this essay is American Culture in the 70s but to summarize it down, bodybuilding is what the topic is because without the 70s, bodybuilding would not be as popular as it is today. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the best bodybuilder known to man. Reason is because he had the drive, the determination , the mind set to never give up and always keep pushing yourself. The 70s was the biggest time period for him because he won his Mr.Olympia 7 times in a row. In the 70s people were confused about bodybuilders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theme is almost a celebrated thing of their achievement with the use of steroids. But it's not uncommon for bodybuilders not to use steroids or some other hormone drug for performance enhancement growth to perform at their great level. The 1970s was a unique time in the American Culture that when examined casts a view that takes place in American society. Bodybuilding was a major thing in this decade from the film "Pumping Iron" having a major role in bodybuilding to racial, citizen roles Arnold and Franco and just every other non citizen had to face with. But it showed how there is and can be success in the United States if you set your mind to something a do it and never give up on yourself and never quit grinding and always stay hungry. Bodybuilding too many is addicting and they can't stop grinding, for an example, Arnold and Franco at the ages of 70 years old are still in their old gym "Gold's Gym" which bodybuilder Ken Waller who was is in " Pumping Iron " owns Gold's Gym and runs it still this day. So if there was a message in this essay it would be to never give up, always push your self and never wanna be like everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role And Image Of Women Throughout Spain's history, the role and image of women have been shaped by the ideals set forth by the traditional and devout Catholic political authority. After the changes that followed the death of dictator Francisco Franco, the female role in Spain has been just as much in transition as the nation's political system. This time of transition would serve as an opportunity where Spanish women could reclaim their identity and show that they were just as deserving of their individual rights as men. This change would go beyond the political sphere and mainstream pop culture would also begin to show clear depictions of Spanish women transitioning into their new, independent role in society. Carmen Maura is a Spanish actress that was heavily involved in portraying the transitioning Spanish woman during the later stages of the transitional period and beyond. Particularly, her roles as Pepa in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) and Julia in Common Wealth (2000) would prove to be two of her most acclaimed performances while also being two performances that portray the idea of the transitioning Spanish woman on the viewers. The two movies were made twelve years apart from each other, which is a considerable amount of time where the Spanish women continued to change. So, the two characters that Carmen Maura portrays can be interpreted as visual examples of a transforming Spain, where its women faced radical changes in two different, post–Franco time periods. ... • 5. Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Spanish Civil War The twentieth century saw more proxy wars than any time in human history; great powers would flex their martial muscles in smaller theatres of conflict in order to test their own strengths and weaknesses without risking their international reputation as an aggressive nation. The Spanish Civil War served as a significant proxy for the totalitarian European powers in the interwar period; Fascist Italy andNazi Germany would support the right–wing nationalists while the Soviet Union and various International Brigades would back the alliance of the Republican government and Anarcho–communist organizations. Spain would serve as a testing ground for the armed forces of the European totalitarian states in which major military and ideological support would be given to the Spanish belligerents. In spite of initial setbacks in the initial military coup, Francisco Franco would eventually crush the Republican–Anarchist opposition and maintain authoritarian control of Spain for decades. His success was due in large part to the interests of Hitler and Mussolini in creating a friendly state in the Iberian Peninsula. Through contributions of manpower, military advisors and materiel from the Nazis and Fascists, Nationalist Spain was able to take advantage of the less–organized and squabbling Republican government forces. La Guerra Civil was the culmination of a century of turmoil in Spain. The Spanish monarchy would be abolished in 18XX, with its Savoyard King famously declaring the ... • 6. Spanish Civil War: The Struggle Between Fascism and... The Spanish civil war of 1936–1939 was an important conflict in Spain's history. This war was initiated by a military revolt led by General Francisco Franco on the 17 July 1936 and ended with Franco's victory on the 1 April, 1939. This victory resulted in the replacement of the Second Spanish Republic with the conservative dictatorship of Franco. This conflict triggered the clash of the various cultures and ideologies within Spain. One important example of an ideological clash was that of Communism versus Fascism. This clash was so important that, based on an analysis of the level of involvement of Fascist and Communist factions in said clash, one must concede that the conflict between Communism and Fascism was represented to a great... Soviet Russia also sent in Chiefs and Generals to act as military advisers. Bolloten states via implication that Soviet Russia also mobilized international brigades of infantry to fight for the republic through the Comintern. The Comintern mobilized tens of thousands of men to join these brigades. The Soviets hadn't sent any of their own troops as Joseph Stalin, the Soviet dictator, was trying to avoid a war with Germany and Italy. Another pro–communist faction that partook in this civil war was the popular Front Government of France. This faction had provided very little substantial support to her sister regime as the French coalition was divided about whether or not to grant this support. This division is because of the fact that although the Prime Minister, Leon Blum, wanted to support the republicans there were those in his coalition who feared war with Germany and Italy. The fact that Britain didn't approve of sending the Republicans aid was another reason for why so little was sent. As a result of this division and British disapproval Blum proposed a non–intervention agreement be signed by the European powers on the 25 July 1936. Director Kenneth Branagh's 1996 production of Hamlet was true to Shakespeare's work in that the films dialogue was delivered word or word as it is presented in the text. In contrast, Franco Zeffirelli conducted his 1990 production of Hamlet in a much more liberal direction in which lines, scenes and characters were omitted from film. I argue that from the perspective of an individual with moderate knowledge in Shakespearian literature, that the best film versions of Hamlet are those that take the most liberties from the text. I concur that the following elements reflect the level of liberty taken in regards to the text and that these elements determine which film is the best; changes to dialogue, changes to plot, presence of theme portrayal of emotions and the setting. In 1996 Kenneth Branagh starred as Hamlet in his self–directed version of the play. Branagh's script for the film was fiercely loyal to Shakespeare's original words which resulted in a four hour cinematic experience. The immense amount of dialogue was delivered rapidly and added a layer of complexity which effected the audience's ability to analyze and comprehend the story line. A lack of understanding is problematic as it contributes to a loss of character development as well as confusion within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Endless Love Is A Romance Directed By Shana Feste The film Endless Love is a romance directed by Shana Feste in 2014 about 17 year–old Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde) who meets and falls in love with a fellow high school student, David Elliot (Alex Pettyfer). Jade wasn't the average high school student after her brother passed away. She spent all her time with her parents and other brother, Keith Butterfield (Rhys Wakefield). And instead of David comes from an affluent family and Jade is the product of a bohemian household, this has Jade as the introverted daughter of rich parents while David is the son of a single, grease monkey dad. Safe and predictable, there is nothing remotely surprising (and, therefore, interesting) about this rudimentary remake. The movie is so simple and sappy in its plotting that it seems more suited for the Hallmark Channel than the big screen. It also doesn't take much to see that it's sampling more of the work of Nicholas Sparks than Spencer's book. Since there isn't a movie adaptation of a Sparks novel coming out this February, as it seems to be the case every year, this movie jumps on this opportunity and envisions how Sparks would've handled "Love" if he wrote it. To watch and enjoy Endless Love one must overcome the sappy love story of pretty teens with clear heads and endless romantic thoughts and feelings. Guernica being one of his most popular and power paintings has not just only left its mark in the 20th century but in present day. This painting is based off an horrific event that occurred on April 27, 1937. This day is the dreadful day in which Hitler's German air force bombed the village Guernica in Northern Spain. 1600 innocent civilians were either wounded or killed. This mission was specialized to test out new bombing tactics. Due to this event he expressed his outrage against war through a non–harmful mural. He believed that this was the best way in protest against war. He believed that this was the best way in influencing a great amount of people to stand beside him. He believed that this was a way in which humans can understand that war is part of human nature. In response to the social and political belief in its historical time period, at this time a civil war began between the Democratic Republican government and fascist forces led by General Francisco Franco attempting to overthrow them. He depicts this in the painting by drawing out a bull and a horse. Although, he uses bulls and horses in many of his other paintings such as minotauromachy, to symbolize life and death rituals of the spanish bullfightings he saw as a child. "For never was a story of more woe Than this of Juliet and her Romeo." – William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, 5.3 'Romeo and Juliet' is a tragic play about two star crossed lovers written by Shakespeare in 1595. The play is a timeless teenage tradgedy. "The play champions the 16th Century belief that true love always strikes at first sight," (Lamb 1993: Introduction) and even in modern times an audience still want to believe in such a thing as love at first sight. Act II Scene II the balcony scene displays that romantic notion perfectly. This worked because more people were attracted to the film by the actors. Zeffirelli used symbols to help capture his audience. Some were subtle, others were meant to get the audiences attention. For example Romeo climbing over the high wall to reach Juliet's balcony was a subtle symbol showing the heights and challenges he would face for true love, and even the fact the scene was set on a balcony overlooking an orchid which was may have been meant to symbolise the 'natural love' or 'green' being fresh and inexperienced. Franco Zefferelli's film Hamlet Essay example Franco Zefferelli's film Hamlet Franco Zefferelli's film, Hamlet, adapted from Shakespeare's text, Mel Gibson's Hamlet, struts and frets his life in Denmark, convincing almost everyone that he is "mad." The film bases the question of whether or not Hamlet is actually insane almost solely on Gibson's acting interpretations, but Zefferelli's editing choices assist in making the point that Hamlet is not insane, but either in a fog of confusion and anger from his grief, or pretending to be mad to manipulate others. In the film, the morning after Hamlet sees his father's ghost, there is a silent scene between Ophelia and Hamlet. He appears to Ophelia, disheveled and obviously emotionally distressed. In the film, Hamlet dances exultantly with the players and says to Horatio joyfully, "I'll take the Ghost's word for a thousand pound" (3.2.263–4). Claudius' reaction to the play of running out and then going to confession makes Hamlet believe that Claudius did, in fact, murder King Hamlet. In the final two acts of the film, Mel Gibson rarely descends into fits of rage and depression. Instead, he puts on the act of madness by appearing playful or irrational around other characters to help him in the process of revenge. Hamlet abuses Polonius' assumption that Hamlet is "mad" by constantly behaving as such around him. In the film, he appears disheveled, engages in wordplay, and even throws Polonius off a ladder. Mel Gibson's acting choices make it clear that Hamlet is merely pretending because, as soon as Polonius is out of sight, he usually has a ponderous soliloquy devoid of the mad mannerisms present with Polonius. This manipulation is especially present in the scene in which Hamlet tells Ophelia that he never loved her (3.1). In the film, Hamlet sees the king, queen, and Polonius run to hide and watch the conversation. During the scene, Hamlet tells Ophelia sotto voce, "I did love you once" (3.1.116). In Fair Verona two families have been feuding for generations, the Capulets and the Montagues. The Capulets have an astonishing daughter, approaching marriage age, named Juliet. She is to be wed to the best suitor. The Montagues have a son called Romeo. When Romeo and his friends attend the Capulets party, uninvited, Romeo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Juliet wakes to she the last breath of her one true love. Life without love is nothing to Juliet, she grasps Romeo's dagger and ends her own life in an act of bravery and devotion. In respect to the untimely deaths of their children the Montagues and the Capulets agree to end the feud. At the begging of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet there is a small television screen within the viewers television screen, all the surrounding area is completely blacked out so that the viewers attention is focused on what the news reader is announcing. The presenter is well poised and speaks properly; this is to make the viewer believe what is being presented to them. When the newsreader has finished the television screen disappears and bold white writing saying 'In Fair Verona' appears on the screen telling the viewer where the film is set. This writing is quickly replaced with a large statue of Christ, which shows that the country is catholic. A jump shot flicks between these two images until the camera is level with the Christ statue. Tense music starts to play in the background to tell the viewer that a fight is expected later in the film. The tension is broken by the ravings of the Montagues. The Montagues are wearing beach style clothes to suggest that they are laid back. The music in the background has a strong beat to it. When they arrive at the gas station the Capulets ... We went to boot camp together; then we were told we were both going on the USS Nimitz to fight the naval battle against the Iraqians. There is just something weird about that guy that I just do not like at all. He has this weird look about him all the time as if a shark was trying to catch his prey. Personally I think he is up to something big. I have tried to convince multiple other people that the guy is bad, but it is like trying to trying to stick a piece of wood through a rhinoceros's skin; it does not work. I smiled though because I was so proud of myself for catching Franco, and I knew we weren't going to die. "Start speaking up Franco," the Lieutenant repeated. "To be plain and simple, I am working for Iraq and have been ever since before boot camp. I was just going to try to blow up this ship," he frankly stated. "There will be an investigation for this. • 29. Political Differences Between Football And Football "Politics doesn't belong in football" is what I heard my Dad say as a Jeremy Corbyn banner was raised in the kop. "I watch football to get away from Politics" is a comment I saw in /r/soccer and that got me thinking, isn't football the worst place to come to get away from politics. I want to start with my overall point. Politics and Football are intricately intertwined. Politics often manifests itself through Football, whilst Football has also been used for political propaganda. One of the ways this is achieved is through local and national identities becoming associated and represented by Football clubs. This brings us to the first example of politics being intertwined with Football with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. The club not only has become enriched with a political background, but in fact their biggest rivalry and possibly the biggest rivalry in the world has its political roots. El Clasico is a rivalry defined by distance, the distance between what the two clubs stand for and represent. With Madrid representing Spanish nationalism and Barcelona representing Catalan nationalism. During the Franco regime Catalans saw Madrid as a tool Franco would use to humiliate the city in another domain. The example most cited in the book BarГ§a was the 1943 Copa Del Rey. BarГ§a held a 3–0 lead going into the second leg, with a few controversial decisions. The home fans who would boo the officials would be labeled in the media as 'enemies of the Spanish stat'. Pablo Picasso's Guernic Close Visual Analysis Utilising, "The Study Diamond: effects, techniques, context and meaning" (The Open University, 2013, p. 76), this essay will argue through close visual analysis from an art history point of view that Picasso's Guernica is a form of protest. The essay will also argue that Guernica's meaning has changed to include becoming a symbol of peace and continues to fulfil its purpose as a form of protest. A large mural, Guernica is an example of Synthetic Cubism painted by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973). Created using the medium of oil paint on canvas with a narrow palette consisting of the neutral hues: white, grey and black; the formalist qualities of Guernica can have harrowing effects on the spectator, "But to see it in real life, in its full size, is an even stronger emotional experience. Some people have said they experienced an instant rush of many powerful, fearful emotions" (The Open University, 2016, Block 3, 2.2.2). Stark colour value distribution in Guernica's figures creates the effect of palpable tension. Correspondingly, light grey contrasts with a dark grey or black background. A feature of Synthetic Cubism, "There ... colours are muted, often virtually monochromatic greys or browns." Clarke (cited in The Open University, 2016, Block 3, 2.2.4). The doorway at the centre of Guernica depicts a figure carrying a lamp illuminating a scene of carnage within. This distinct contrast of colour enhances the effect of Guernica's dark corners and can evoke feelings of impending doom. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Summary Of ' El Caudillo ' El Caudillo There has been plenty of stories about men in history but none like the one of Francisco Paulino Hermenegildo TeГіdulo Franco Bahamonde. Francisco came to power promptly after the start of the Spanish Civil War. He led the Nationalist Army to victory. After the war ended in 1939, Franco held complete control of Spain. His administration was similar to a Fascist autocracy. He carried out the functions of chief of state, prime minister, commander in chief, and leader of the Falange. In this, he adopted the title of El Caudillo, "the leader". Although a fairly recent figure in Spain's history, Francisco Franco played a significant role in Spain during his time and in the years since. Francisco was born on December 4, 1892 in the naval town El Ferrol in the Galician region. His parents were NicolГЎs and Pilar Bahamonde and he had four siblings, one of which died in early childhood. Franco's parents were complete opposites. His father was a drunkard and a womanizer, had no religious interests, rejected conventional moral values and when at home was strict and bad tempered, and when Francisco joined the Infantry Academy, his father left the family for good. However, his mother was loving and supporting, and passed on the belief of hard work and dedication. She was also a very religious, Catholic woman in which she passed on her Catholic–conservative values that Francisco portrayed later in his life (Jensen 4). Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of the play occurred. This allows the film director's interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the audience's understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director. One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. Also, Gibson's Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger than one would imagine them from Shakespeare's original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the "heavy–headed revel" that causes other nations to "clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase" (Hamlet I.iv.21–23). Shakespeare's Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his excessive drinking and partying. One of the main reasons behind this recognition is due to creative control now being in the hands of film makers, such as Pedro AlmodГіvar, Fernando Trueba and Guillermo Del Toro in the late 20th century and early 21st century. These directors have created films which dealt with themes of nationality and national history, such as Todo sobre mi madre (Pedro AlmodГіvar, 1999) and Pan's Labyrinth (Guillermo Del Toro, 2006). It was later turned to a ceremonial event for the upper class. The status of bullfighting changed when King Felipe V thought it brought a negative attention to his family. Because the people of Spain had grown accustomed to the event, the commoners took it on as a sport. This event or sport has special equipment, participants, structure, and purpose. Each piece of equipment used plays an important role in the ceremony. The traje de luces is the matador's costume. It is made with silver and gold threading. In order for me to comment on both versions of 'Romeo and Juliet' I will compare the opening shots, the way the main characters are introduced and the types of music and costumes used in each version. Baz Luhrmann's film takes place in contemporary America. The latest version of Romeo and Juliet was filmed in 1997 at Verona Beach, California. The prologue gives the audience helpful information on the latest goings on in Verona, which helps to fill you in on what is happening. As the prologue continues I become aware of the original Shakespearian language that is used, " The fearful passage of their death–marked love." The use of opposition within the text is effective in conveying the contrast between Romeo and Juliet and the two families. As well as this, death and love are opposites that don't normally feature in the same sentence, causing a strong, instant effect on the audience. Although the Luhrmann film has a modern setting and opens with a news anchorwoman reading the prologue from the play, it is read in one go and there is nothing offered to the viewer to make it clearer. It seems that Luhrmann wants to set up a traditional presentation of the words so that when his vision appears it is even more explosive. Although Luhrmann works hard at communicating the text, the American–speaking actors prove a difficulty. Dialogue is certainly not of prime importance in this film. In Luhrmann's film the words remain Shakespearean whereas the images are very much in the late 20th century. Therefore, platonic love (non–romantic love) is often forgotten, though it is equally as strong as its romantic counterpart, and can lead to consequences much more tragic. Such is the case with William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Despite the dominating romance between the two young lovers, as the play progresses, one would realize that the platonic love of those around Romeo and Juliet, though no one can be at fault, is what actually leads the lovers to their ends. In Franco Zeffirelli's movie rendition of the play, this underlying love is revealed as well and is shown evidently. Therefore, Zeffirelli manages to portray this love clearly, allowing the... • 38. Despite Capulet's mistake of trying to protect his daughter, the lovers may still have been spared from death if not for the love from Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence's mistake is his giving permission for Romeo to marry Juliet. Even after saying that "Young men's love then lies/ Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes" (II, iii, 71–72), he gives permission for the marriage due to his love, which is shown by his actions (of allowing the marriage), for them and their families, as he wishes the marriage will end the hatred between the two households. This is demonstrated in his dialogue when he says: "In one respect I'll thy assistant be...To turn your households' rancor to pure love" (II, iii, 97–99). If Friar Lawrence had not given them permission to marry, then the lovers would either have no good reason to continue loving each other and move on (as young love often fades quickly due to it being based on attractiveness rather than true love), or they would not be obliged to conform to the roles of a husband and a wife, as one of them doing so contributes to their demises. Cuerda does this by exhibiting the contrast between the 1931–1936 Republic and the dictatorships that ruled the country just before and after the Spanish Civil War through the relationship between Moncho, a young boy, and Don Gregorio, his teacher. The film depicts the Republic's aims for a liberal education and the pressures this produced within the more conservative region of society. Overall this film portrays both the freedom of this short period in Spain's history and the beginning of Franco's oppressive dictatorship. There are many layers of themes that are subtlety imbedded into the film. The political theme of the film is a truly intriguing portrayal of life in Spain during this tense time. The underlying message of the film is one of defending the freedom of expression. It explores the importance of gaining knowledge through one's own personal experiences. Culture is used as a pathway to achieve personal freedom. In addition, the film attempts to break some of the taboos surrounding an adequate education, focusing instead on this education through experience. Observation is used as a way to awaken the senses. The conflicts represented a critical point for each respective nation, a time of either death or continuation for the countries. This section mirrors Whitman's Drum Taps section of poetry "Eighteen Sixty–One" which also focuses on the war as it is reaching a critical point of expansion. Centered on the time of most profound national crisis, the poets use the image of gathering soldiers to validate their cause. The solider becomes the embodiment of the poets' war philosophies of reconstruction out of destruction. Neruda and Whitman concentrate on the soldier's sacrifice as requisite for societal salvation. Each poem reflects the desolation resulting from the beginning stages of the conflict and subsequently presents the gathering soldiers as a reason for hope. The sections begin submerged in the bleak solemnity of the turmoil of war. This represents a shift from the booming patriotism in the proceeding section in Drum Taps. Whitman's speaker shifts to a grave tone, lamenting the "Arm'd year–year of struggle, / No dainty rhymes or sentimental love verses for you terrible year" (lines 1–2).
