The Construction Of Early Chinese Housing
Early Chinese housing was much like that of the rest of the world: cave dwellings. Where caves
were not available or the geology could not support such dwellings, nest dwellings were an
alternative. Until resources and building techniques were improved, the caves provided superior
protection from the elements during the winter with nest dwellings providing a better ventilated area
during the hotter summer days. Permanent dwellings began to emerge with the introduction of earth
pounding techniques. This provided a stable foundation and the use of bricks was later developed
for use as the base. It was around 2100 BC to 500 BC in which the most significant improvements in
housing emerged. The use of slave labor combined with the influx of new and different ideas from
repeated conquests shifted the housing styles from in ground, to elevated platforms. This shift in
technique was seen in Chinese housing up until the modern times. The three bay houses were the
most common type of elevated home. Larger multi–bayed houses existed, even large complexes, to
accommodate an extended family. However, a larger home was a sign of greater wealth. Balance,
symmetry, and other elements of Feng–shui were driving factors in the construction, renovation, and
expansion of Chinese housing. This oriental technique capitalized on the use of an open courtyard.
The center of the building was a shrine for the deities and the ancestors, as well as a space for
hosting guests. On either side of the

Comparing The Three People's Principles And The Future Of...
Sun Yat–sen wrote The Three People's Principles and the Future of the Chinese People in 1906
while China was ruled by a monarch. During the Qing dynasty, the monarch controlled much of the
lives of the Chinese people. This caused many hardships for the population. If China wanted to
progress and grow as a nation, the monarch needed to be defeated. Sun Yat–sen worked to improve
the lives of the Chinese people by bettering their government through nationalism, democracy, and
people's livelihood. Yat–sen used nationalism as one of his main driving forces to start a revolution.
He states that the people of the Han are a lost nation because they are being discriminated by their
monarchial leaders. By uniting together, the Han should be able to

How China Has Improved International Presence
China was the most civilized country having outpaced other world regions for several centuries. The
country faced a major backlash in the nineteenth and twentieth countries whereby it experienced
civil wars, foreign occupations, dreaded famines, and military attacks that left the security of the
country prone to attacks. Chinese government supported communism after World War II
consequently adopting an autocratic leadership style to cater for the welfare of Chinese citizens.
However, the successors of Mao Zedong adopted a market–oriented economic system which sky–
rocketed the economic growth of China since 1978. Currently, China has the second largest
economy after the USA and boasts of its fastest economic growth rate in the world. Eventually, the
living standard of the large portion of the Chinese population has dramatically increased. Moreover,
Chinese have been given the freedom to make personal decisions, but the political measures are still
tight (The World Factbook, 2016). China has enhanced its international presence by ensuring that it
participated in the international organizations and enhanced the global outreach.
China has applied authoritative leadership style for centuries whereby the subjects are given little
autonomy make decisions. Chinese leaders make decisions without the involvement of subjects. The
leaders motivate their citizens by making visions that inspire Chinese citizens to conduct their duties
with determination and diligence. Mao Zedong

Daniele Varè: The Last Empress
The Last Empress by Daniele Varè
The Empress Dowager Tzi–his (1835–1908) was a unique ruler unlike any other China had ever
seen. She is considered to be one of the most influential people in Chinese history, a rarity in the
male dominated Chinese world. The empress dowager exerted great power over the Chinese empire
and influenced the political structure in ways it had never been influenced before, making many
great reforms that she believed would help the Chinese people.
Born on November 29th, 1835, Tzi–hsi was named Yehonala after her tribe. Her father, Huei–cheng
died when she was a child and her family took care of her until she was sent to Emperor Hsien–
Feng's court as a concubine. Although Hsien–Feng had many wives and ... Show more content on

The Last Empress by Daniele Varè does an excellent job of portraying these events in detail as well
as providing cultural background in which to better understand the events and the circumstances of
her life. The vivid depiction of the Empress Dowager gives intimate details of Tzi–his's life, her
personality and the motivations that drove her to propose the reforms and ideas that she did. It
provides an in depth look into her life through social and political spheres in which she existed. The
King's College History Department in its review said:
Varè is successful in writing this primarily because she does not attempt to judge wherther the
actions of the empress were good or bad. The strict reporting of the facts with very little speculation
makes this book extremely useful...Her point of view is that even if she did do many things that
were negative along with some that were positive this only goes to show she is human. (1)
Varè does do an excellent job of portraying the life of the Empress in an objective manner. So often
it is easy to judge historical figures by their actions, but what is important to remember is that they
were only doing what they knew, and what they thought was best for the country. The Empress
Dowager was doing what she thought was best, and although her decisions did not necessarily result
in the best of circumstances for China, she was a very influential figure regardless.

Ghost Cities, And Real Estate Bubbles
Development, Urbanization, Ghost Cities, and Real Estate Correlation in China: Another
Perspective
The People 's Republic of China has had one of the wildest real estate sectors of any large–scale
global economy. Chinese real estate value have been appreciating dramatically and at least abroad in
the United States, media outlets have been covering this topic in an extremely sensationalistic way
reporting "ghost cities," and "real–estate bubbles" at their bursting point.
Yale Professor Stephen Roach[1] says that China 's modernization is the "greatest urbanization story
that the world has ever seen." A plethora of articles and documentaries cover the phenomenon of
"Ghost Cities" which are supposedly the symbols of economic waste and rampant industrialization
in the People 's Republic of China. Observers blame the rise of these "Ghost Cities" on corrupt
funding via risk–laden local–government financing vehicles and as symptoms of China ' inevitable
demise.
The skyscraper–filled skylines of a number of Chinese cities remain eerily vacant devoid of
inhabitants. Yujiapu, located in Conch Bay north of the bustling port city of Tianjin is a backdrop of
dirty vacant office towers and unfinished hotels that strangely resembles New York 's Big Apple.
Situated in a river bend, and modeled after Manhattan, Yujiapu was envisioned in 2008 to become
the new financial center of the world complete with a Rockefeller Plaza and China 's version of the
Twin Towers. The 5–star Country Garden

Essay about Simple is Gold For the Chinese People in...
Keeping things simple in "Golden Mountain", also known as Canada, is extremely important for
most of the Chinese people who came to Canada. In my opinion, it is important to them for three
main reasons. First, they need to ensure that their paper histories are original in the eye of Canada's
immigration officers. Second, they only say those things that are necessary so Canadians can
understand them. Lastly, they do not want to forget their origins by not assimilating too much into
Western culture. Hence, it is important for Chinese immigrants who came to Canada to keep things
simple and we need to discuss this further to know more deeply about why it is important to be
simple in Canada. First of all, the Chinese people who came to Canada ... Show more content on

It can be seen in the novel that old timers like Wong Kimlein only say a little about themselves when
someone asks him about his past : "What was it like when you were a little boy?" He roared with
laughter or sighed deeply. "Too long ago," he would say, and leave me guessing."(Choy 61).
Additionally, young generation, like Jook–Liang and Jung–Sum, are assimilating a little bit to make
life simpler or easier. For instance, the children who are a part of the Chen family just need to call
their uncle, "uncle" instead of using the old Chinese traditional titles which apply differently for
each relative or friend. Therefore, they are keeping traditional family titles simple by only saying
what is necessary to prevent more or worse marginalization from outsiders or those who are
listening, and this adaption to language can possibly make their lives easier. Lastly, Chinese
immigrants choose not to assimilate too much because they want to keep everything close to their
home as well as they do not want to get caught up in a third space situation. They do not want to
forget who they are and where they are from. Therefore, some Chinese immigrants want all aspects
which define their identity to be close to them, even if they live in Canada now. Take the case of a
Chinese teenager who came to Canada to continue his study, but he was already assimilating too
much that his cultural identity faded slowly. At the end, he

Essay On Cyber Security
China's Increased Cybersecurity Measures
While the articles from the New York Times following the WannaCry attack seem primarily focused
on the who, what, when, where, why aspect of the attack, China Daily almost immediately begins
discussing 'what's next' for China regarding cyber security. A May 18th article posted by China
Daily poses these questions "What measures should China take for its cyber security? And what
should individuals do for self–protection?" followed by the advice of two Chinese cyber security
experts (note: the entirety of this article could not be accessed unless an online subscription to the
paper was purchased). On June 1st, China passed a new cybersecurity law, just three weeks
following the WannaCry attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The content of this law and/or laws is also vague; however, the general theme seems to be that this
law or laws affect how data is collected and that the measures will help curb cyber–attacks in China.
China Daily frames increased cybersecurity measures in China as positive, while articles in the New
York Times are more skeptical.
Criticism of Censorship As previously mentioned, the New York Times seems skeptical in its
reporting of the increased cyber security measures, and even criticizes that these changes will
seclude China and continue to promote limits on the content available online to Chinese citizens:
Officials say the rules will help stop cyberattacks and help prevent acts of terrorism, while critics
say they will further erode internet freedom. Business groups worry that parts of the law – such as
required security checks on companies in industries like finance and communications, and
mandatory in–country data storage – will make foreign operations more expensive or lock them out
altogether. Individual users will have to register their real names to use messaging services in China.
Restrictions on the flow of data across borders "provide no security benefits but will create barriers
to Chinese as well as foreign companies operating in industries where data needs to be shared
internationally," James Zimmerman, chairman of the

less expensive than the entering international companies (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.) * Brand
recognition is low on the mainland, this goes back to Chinese culture of keeping with tradition

Perception of the Chinese People
Introduction
I Choose China because I am part Chinese and wanted to understand their culture a lot better. I
believe if I learn more about the Chinese culture I will be able to understand their communication
and tendencies better. Also to be honest I am just as guilty as anyone in not knowing the differences
between Japanese and Chinese culture, so on a side note I also hope to clear up a few
misunderstandings. At the very least you will know some information about the Chinese culture
solving part of the problem of the perception on Chinese people.
Mandarin is China's official language.
Chinese Communication patterns can be easily misunderstood by people sometimes leading to
conflict. The Chinese have a reputation for 'impassiveness.' This is mainly because people of
different cultures misinterpret Chinese body language and gestures.
With 1.3 billion people, the world's second–largest economy, and the fastest economic growth
among industrialized nations, China is an undisputed economic powerhouse, so it would not be a
bad idea to become more familiarized with their communication patterns in their business,
education, and healthcare.
Business
China is the world's second largest economy. Many U.S companies are multinational already, and
many more expect China to be a growing source of their revenue. Learning proper etiquette is a
must before conducting business in China.
When conducting business its never a good idea to be late but especially when meeting with Chinese

The Government Must Maintain Crucial Relationships With...
The government must maintain crucial relationships with the society. The leaders uphold the basic
rights by guaranteeing people 's security and equitable distribution of resources. The Chinese
government has implemented several policies that enabled the cooperation between the state and the
social organizations. The social organizations, such as NGOs, have a significant role in connecting
the state and the society and in enhancing their relationship. They are the extensions of the
government to the certain areas that the government couldn't reach, helping the government better
meet the society's needs.

Although the government appears to exact control in the social organizations, their relationships are
said to be symbiotic. The social organizations always find ways to negotiate with the government on
how to meet the interests of their members ("Negotiating the state: The development of social
organizations in China", p. 125). The government is making efforts to involve the society in the
developments through the social organizations. Wang and Carl explain that the increasing social
unrest is a force generated from communist rule, increasing the need for the government to respond
the people's needs. Social organizations have been used in the control of unrest of people created by
previous leaders through the introduction of reforms dating back to 1990's. In light of the challenges
of dealing with societal unrest, the government's response was to involve society in major decisions,
thus initiating the formation of social organizations. In the article "The Rise of the Chinese Security
State," Wang and Carl mention that there was establishment of special offices for dealing with social
stability, an example of these special offices being the anti–cult departments; and those special
offices being predecessors of social organizations.
In democratic nations, such as the United States, each political party has to come with its policies
and manifestos.

Chinese People Prefer Buy Luxury
Introduction
Research question: In recent years why have more and more Chinese people opted to buy luxury
good overseas? Specifically in USA, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
In the past few years, during the holiday seasonal promotions, many brand–name stores in
various countries have been filed with Chinese tourists. This phenomenon has drawn the attention
of the Chinese Government, and according to media reports data computing, high–end consumer
goods purchased overseas by Chinese visitors in one a year alone amounted to $46 billion,
equivalent to nearly 300 billion yuan.
Chinese people are keen to buy luxury goods abroad, despite many cities within China also have

while in the UK site was £ 1,195 (about RMB 11,855 yuan), while in France for € 1,495, US
$ 1,895. The price of more than 40% cheaper than in China.(Wang,H 2013) In my opinion, I
think the price is the most important reason behind why Chinese tourists buy more luxury goods
overseas.
On the other hand, The China Daily reporter Xiao He cites another reason for why people buy
luxury goods overseas. In 2012, 25% of global luxury goods were purchased Chinese people, 60%
of consumption to overseas. Xiao believes that other reason for why people buy luxury goods
overseas is because in china, they don't have enough variety of luxury goods. The most typical
example is of the Apple phone, can not be purchased as quickly due to delayed release date in the
Chinese market, leading consumers take advantage of tourism opportunities to go abroad to buy.
Many Chinese consumers overseas have found that the same brand of goods abroad offer a much
more extensive range than in China.(Xiao,H 2013)
An article from The Ningbo Daily states another reason for why chinese people may buy luxury
goods overseas. The "customer environment" is an issue. Outside of China the general price tag

To increase public confidence in the financial planning, many banks and insurance companies
require their staff to take the CFP examination. As for China, Chinese government has opened the
financial market over the years which lead to the changes of the Chinese circumstance frequently.
So financial planners in China are required to receive related education to enhance the public
confident on financial planning. Taking the example of China taxation system, there were several
changes in tax incentive for foreign business and individual income tax. Financial planners in China
should aware these changes and modify their tax planning quickly for their clients.
Interpersonal skills are essential to financial planners. Because they have to collect the data from
their clients to make recommendations to their clients. When collecting data from their clients,
financial planners should show their integrity and competence to convince the clients. It can be
better to set the financial goal for their clients.
Chinese people would not disclose their private information to the stranger easily. It hampers
financial planners to help their clients to pursue their financial goals. Financial planners who serve

Increasing the donor pool to ease the donor shortage. Other improvements that could be made would

`` Little Pink `` : Social Media And Chinese People
Usually a stigma is defined as an identity discrediting mark on someone of questionable moral status
(Goffman 1963). "Little pink" refers to those young, patriotic, especially female netizens who attack
the western media, politicians' and even popular singer's accounts of slighting China and Chinese
people. One character they shared is most of them are members of an online literature–related
forum, which has the all pink–colored background. These girls are called "little pink" consequently.
The first occurrence of these people could be derived from the year of 2008, when the Olympic
Games was held in Beijing, China. A bunch of vocally patriotic overseas students and immigrants,
predominately female, started to criticize the western media of defaming China's image around the
world. Later in 2015, the word "little pink" was firstly created in a cyber conflict between several
users of weibo (a widely–used Chinese social media, like twitter). User A is blamed by User B for
smearing and mocking the image of China. Then user A called user B "little pink" as a counterattack
due to user B's gender of female, patriotism ideas and the way she dresses. Communication research
on stigma issues has focused primarily on health and disability stigmas at the beginning (Agne,
Thompson, and Cusella, 2000; Smith, 2007; Thompson, 2000). Also existing stigmatization
researches are on occupational/workplace stigmas (Lutgen–Sandvik 2008). Interpersonal research

The Chinese People 's Liberation Army Essay
The Chinese People's Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military
modernization in the 1980's and they have been continually reforming their training and education
of their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People's Liberation Army recognized
that improving the military skills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike
were necessary prerequisites if they wanted to be able to utilize more advanced weaponry and fight
in this day and age.
During the modernization of the People's Liberation Army funding was increased for military
education, the study of foreign militaries was incorporated into their training curriculum and
contacts with foreign military academies was increased. The leadership of the PLA focused their
education reforms on the military academy system. They also changed the scope of their training
from being highly politicized and emphasized in single–unit infantry troop training, to concentrating
on training officers capable of directing combined–arms warfare.
The Revival of the military academies system began in 1978, which the Cultural Revolution had
devastated. (Mao Zedong china's communist leader launched his plan to reassert his authority over
the Chinese government which is known as the cultural revolution.) By 1984 the military academy

How Did Chinese People Decided To Rise Against Imperialism
The 20th century began with a tumult of wars rocking throughout the world. These conflicts led to
rise of philosophical thinkings, of which one of the most popular ones was Marxism. Its popularity
with the working class spiraled into the act of Communism, defined as "A theory or system of social
organization in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and
receives according to their ability and needs". Of which, in Asia, China and North Korea became
Communist. Upon declaration, the communist states segregated themselves from the world for
decades. Therefore, there is much curiosity in state management, and in this paper, the proposition
that was made for music. China In the early 1900s, Chinese people decided to rise against
Imperialism by Dr. Sun Yat Sen, creating a Republic of China. during this period, the land of

The storied struggle between factory owners increasing profits and worker's wage stagnation had
been present in Hong Kong for decades before the 1967 disturbances. One of the earliest examples
of this was the Seamen's strike in 1922. Seamen from Guangzhou province and Hong Kong went on
strike because the poor wages Chinese Seamen received compared to Europeans in addition to the
rising cost of living. The strike stopped food from coming into Hong Kong and was declared illegal
by the government. Negotiations took place and their wages were raised in the same year. For the
most part however, many of Hong Kong's residents in the coming decades would be Chinese
immigrants seeking economic opportunity or safety from the political upheaval occurring especially
after WWII. Many of these people would occupy the low–income factory jobs that were available
during Hong Kong's massive export–led industrialization effort in the 50's and 60's. Often working
over 80 hour work weeks in sweatshops, there was little job security, government regulation,
housing or social support. In addition, the outright corruption within the police force and lower
branches of government made enforcement of the few statutes enacted impossible. These factors led
to a growing social

The Spirit of the Chinese People
My father recommended to me Mr. Ku Hong–Ming's works when I was fresh out of high school. He
said that since I was going to major in English, it might be as well to read about Mr. Ku works and
try to understand how a Chinese writer's English writing, after such a long period, is still so widely
appreciated.
I remember quite clearly how I was totally shocked while for first time I read the great words by Mr.
Ku Hung–Ming. The collection of his articles, named "The Spirit of the Chinese People" is one of
his very magnum opuses ––a pure attempt to interpret the spirit and show the value of Chinese
civilization. The special emphasis was laid on the type of humanity the Chinese civilization has
produced, namely the man and woman, the type ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loyalty and filial obedience, so to speak, has become the faith of most of them. Confucianism is not
a religion, yet it is better, for no doctrine of any single religion as that of Confucianism has so wide
a range of influence upon people's mind. Hence, Confucianism was dubbed by Mr. Ku "the state
religion".
Presently, we come across a certain kind of vignettes, more often than not, in the news papers as
well as in the magazines, talking about how wonderful about the western civilization and how
Chinese people should learn from the British–learn from their "sense of gentleman". May be after
some serious consideration, people may realize that while we were fascinated with the western
culture, the traditional "Chinese spirit" has begun to fade away from people's memory–benevolence,
justice and virtue, loyalty and filial obedience and the most basic "the sense of gentleman". Ku, with
his sarcastic tone, pointed out the worth of traditional Chinese culture to the flawed western values.
As far as I'm concerned, it can't be justified to criticize any single culture as worthless, opinions
differ. No single culture is without blemish, and maybe no judge of it is absolutely fair. But we
absolutely have a great responsibility to ponder on our own. "The sense of gentleman" within
Chinese culture should never be forgotten. As regard to benevolence, justice and virtue as well as
loyalty and filial obedience an old

American–Chinese America is a nation consisting of people from different areas with multiple

Americans have been one of the large groups of hyphenated Americans since a long time ago. This
passage mainly observes the living conditions of Chinese–Americans in America and tries to
analyze how the hyphenation identity impacts their thoughts and life. The first section gives a brief

They operated Chinese restaurant and undertook pure labor work for a long time. Along with the

have the common identity. That is, hyphenated American. As a hyphenated American, one of the
most common scenes they have to face up is discrimination and hostility from some natives.
Chinese people seem to have nothing in common with natives: different beliefs, different habits and
different culture. People can not deny the fact that Chinese–Americans have gains as well as loss
influenced by the special identity. (Sowell, 2011, pp.244) First of all, the hyphenated American
identity confuses some traditional Chinese–Americans. It is hard for some old Chinese immigrants
to accept the hyphenated identity since they are still Chinese people in their deep mind. At the same
time, most ideas and concepts, as well as daily habits, are difficult for traditional immigrants to be

Causes Of Rural Urban Divide Of China
Causes of Rural–Urban Divide: Hukou China's rural–urban gaps are much larger than those found in
most other developing countries. This rural–urban divide can be traced back to before the first
economic reform. Beginning in the 1950s, China separated urban and rural residents through a
strictly enforced household registration system (hukou) and focused mainly on the development of
urban cities. Hukou refers to permanent residency status and can be extremely hard to get in major
cities since it is tie to benefit levels, which differ across provinces and between urban residents and
rural residents. An urban hukou provides a relatively comprehensive system of health care and
retirement pensions in that particular city, while a rural hukou a much lower standard of welfares.
Furthermore, data shows hukou also significantly affects people's labor–market return and wages
through its influence on their return to education. Individuals' human capital was largely determined
by the place (rural versus urban) where they were born and received their education, which
highlights the role of China 's rural–urban divide in shaping people 's labor–market return. From
1980 to 2010, China relied on a uniquely successful investment– and export–led development model
for its 30–year miracle of double digit GDP growth. However, to make rapid industrialization
possible, China directed most of its investments to the cities, financed massive urban infrastructure
and development projects. In result of

ANS :–
Hong Kong Disneyland use the consumerism strategic for attracting the customer in Hong Kong

are totally different from U.S.A environment.
Consumerism:
In this strategy company only focus on the customer need and their culture and that kind of changes
are made in the firm by adopting the customer and that culture or people.
Example:
In this case study Disneyland adopt the Chinese people culture and made the changes in park to
attract the more customer like they changes made in location , interior and exterior. In the location
Chinese people are avoid the number four usage because they sounds like "death "in Cantonese and
unlucky. So Disneyland of Hong Kong did not have fourth floor.
The other example of colors, Chinese people are more like red colure due to the symbolic

China's Modernization Is The Greatest Industrialization...
The 5–star Country Garden Phoenix Hotel, billed as the largest hotel in Asia is a
deserted shell with no signs of construction.

time Mao was in power, he introduced a great variety of changes, ranging from political and

However a number of women were fearful of the change, for not sure whether the government
would enforce the law properly. Besides, the introduction of this law means that the concubines
would loose everything. As for men, only the minority who had been influenced by the Western
cultures would agree having equality between men and women. As for the others, it meant that they
would loose their status, and control of property.
The outcome of the Marriage Law seems to be quite successful in terms of its initial aim. On 29
September 1951 the People's Daily reported that the divorce is relatively rare, "Why would people
want to be divorced when they married of their own volition?" (Sidel Ruth, Date unknown)
However, during the process of enforcing this law, people from the countryside would often find it
difficult to accept, because they were firmly constrained by the old tradition, whereas in the more
developed cities, people tend to be better educated and have more association with the Western
people, and therefore would find it easier to accept any new ideology. The younger generations
would also find the change more comfortable than the elders, once again due to foreign influences.
Prohibition of foot binding was also introduced along, as part of the Women

My National Identity Lies With Hong Kong Essay
I was born in Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong is not a nation and is a part of China, my national
identity lies with Hong Kong. After the British took control of Hong Kong, Hong Kong became
more prosperous and adopted a capitalist system (Rothman, 2014). Due to the democratic freedom
that the capitalist system gave, the citizens of Hong Kong became pro–democracy (Rothman, 2014).
Hence, before Hong Kong was back under China's control, the U.K. and China agreed upon "one
country, two systems" (Rothman, 2014). "One country, two systems" means that under China, Hong
Kong is allowed to use the capitalist system they have adopted. After the re–assimilation of Hong
Kong, tensions between China and Hong Kong rose due to political and cultural differences (Chan,
2014). Many citizens of Hong Kong believe that calling themselves Chinese is demeaning and
instead refer to themselves as "Hongkongers" (Chan, 2014). I also share that belief which is why my
national identity lies with Hong Kong and not China. Hong Kong's national identity is unique
because Hong Kong was once under British control. Their culture is a mix of Western and Chinese.
Hence, the role of gender and the appearance of a family in the self–image of the nation vastly
differs from China.
The culture of Hong Kong has shaped my national identity to reject being recognized as Chinese.
Often I am prompted to indicate my country of birth, although Hong Kong is not a country, I always

Summary Of Ha Jin 's ' Nanjing Requiem '
China as a nation has always been weak (World History: The Modern Era). It has been an
acquisition to many nations and groups. However in history's recent past it has fallen to Japan and
Communism. Both of which can be viewed through the lens of good and the lense of bad. However
for the China born author Ha Jin it is not viewed under the light of prosperity but instead dread and
oppression. These are not tales to be taken lightly in any sense but instead to show how humanity is
not always human and empathy is not always present in one's soul. Ha Jin uses dramatic events and
actions with certain points of view to develop characters that antagonize Communist and Japanese
rule over China. Jin's story begins with the novel, Nanjing Requiem, which begins in the year 1937
at the brink of the Japanese invasion of Nanjing. Nanjing is the southern capital of China and a city
known to be a place of politics, art, and education (Kuo). Inside the city stands a women's only
college known as Jinling University and at the time of the novel the institution was overseen by
American missionary Minnie Vautrin. Hilton finds the college to be a representation of civilization
that is constantly put at risk by evil. The novel itself is of the perseverance of the Chinese people
and Minnie Vautrin when Nanjing University turns into a refugee camp with over 10,000 refugees.
Each of these refugees and Minnie herself would do their best to survive the Japanese atrocities and
war crimes, although in

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ngo In China
Past three decades of NGOs in China
Non–governmental organization (NGO) is not an organization of government or a conventional for–
profit business. In China, NGOs are silently different from the definition of general NGOs in which
some of them have closer link with the government. There are two types of NGOs in
China–"officially organized NGOs" and "popular NGOs". The former are initiated by the
government and the other one are initiated by private citizens and receive no government subsidies.
However, we are focusing on the development of NGOs in China, so we are not going to discuss the
differences.
For the economic development, the reason for NGOs of China are growing fast in past three decades
is obvious. China has reformed its economy from Planned to a market Economy in which the
government launched open door policy in 1978. From the economic reform, China improve its

In recent years, there are many demonstrations in China. They voice their complaints causing the
social instability. The Chinese government is not willing to see this incidents again. The best way to
maintain the stability is to concern and try to solve their problems. They will realize the crux of the
problem, then they will speed up the reform of the NGOs like give autonomy to them.
Thirdly, we should remember China still is a developing country. There are many restrictions and
considerations when forming NGO and implement works. Some laws hinder the development of
NGOs like the funding. However, in the long–run, I think it is not a problem. As China is still
finding a way to develop its country. They will amend its law for the interest of the nation. The most
serious problem is the politics. Political pressure weaken the function of NGOs. I think it is hard to
change the mindset of China government, but if the law amendments are well–developed, the NGOs

Essay about Emperor of China; Self-Portrait of K'Ang-Hsi
"Emperor of China; Self–Portrait of K'ang–hsi" Emperor K'ang–hsi was one of the greatest Chinese
emperors of all time. Ruling from 1662 to 1722 he was also one of the longest ruling emperors in
Chinese history and for that matter the world. K'ang–hsi brought China to long–term stability and
relative wealth after years of war and chaos. Jonathan Spence writes from the eyes of K'ang–hsi
getting his information from K'ang–hsi's own writings. Though a little biased towards himself this
book still provides important insight into his mind. Emperor of China is divided into six parts; In

K'ang–hsi tried to stay open with the public about his health, explaining that this is the "ultimate
form of honesty." Emperor K'ang–hsi tried to live forever through his children. He had 56 children
all together but only one with his first wife, who later took over the thrown. The Emperor was very
protective of his sons and made sure they got everything they wanted. He would often kill someone
that threatened the chance of a power overthrow. He once killed three cooks and several servant
boys for suspicion of homosexual activity with his son Yin–jeng. At the end of K'ang–hsi's life, he
became very senile and distant from reality and the Chinese people. Even though Spence goes into
great detail about Emperor K'ang–hsi's life than any history book could have. He does this by
emphasizing his writings and not other sources. The downfall to this is he does not go into great
detail about many of the facts or important historical events. By this time China had foreign
intervention and influence; Spence did not address any of the foreign policies K'ang–hsi made
during his reign. Spence only wrote one paragraph about the confrontations with Russia, but the real
even actually lasted over several decades. And the only thing that was mentioned was how nice the
Emperor was to the Russian prisoners. Emperor of China; Self Portrait of K'ang–hsi should not be

Asian Gold Miners And Its Effects On The Chinese People...
The Chinese began to immigrate overseas after many years of harsh living conditions in China.
Some of these contributions were; the Opium wars (1839–42, 1856–60), the Taiping rebellion
(1856–64), famine, and a sinking economy. These grave circumstances led to them flocking to
faraway lands to seek work. One of the main draws of California for the Chinese was the
opportunity for a better life through gold digging and fertile soil. The struggles for these travelers
began early with the voyage, journeying on "coolie" ships in inhumane conditions caused the loss of
many lives. Passengers were packed into steerage at the bottom of the boat, with poor ventilation
and over–crowding sickness ran ramped. When these "celestials" as Americans called them, arrived
in San Francisco or "Dabu– the first city" many found work as miners, farmhands, railroad builders,
fishermen, or laundrymen. Asian gold miners had many obstacles to contend with, for one the new
foreign miners' tax was extremely difficult for the Chinese to supply. Also the attacks of racist
fellow miners had no penalty. Due to the case of People v. hall (1854) the Chinese were not allowed
to witness in legal proceedings against whites. While most miners had more rights as citizens, this
was impossible for the Chinese because the California constitution allowed only whites to become
be state citizens. Some Asians tried to naturalize, such as Sang Yuen who changed his name to

Causes of Japanese Stagnation
Causes of Japanese Stagnation
Weak Corporate Governance
Corporate governance has been a major issue for Japan and has undoubtedly affected the economic
growth of the country. In 2012, what is considered commonplace in regards to corporate governance
in many countries, including Asian countries, is not the norm in Japan. For example, in countries
like India, China, and South Korea, companies are required to have at least one independent
director. In New York, a firm must have a majority of independent members in their board of
directors. According to a study in 2011, out of 1,668 Japanese firms only 34% had at least one
independent director. (insert citation). According to Yuko Kawamoto of Waseda University,
Japanese bosses argue that "similar rules in Japan would limit managers' freedom" (as stated in
"Back to the Drawing Board," 2012). Also in Japan, shareholders do not have any one to advocate
for them because boardroom committees have no legal status ("Corporate Governance in Japan,"
2012). All of this, coupled with Japan's culture of foreign exclusion, is a big problem for the country.
By not paying attention to its competitors, especially in Asia, and not expanding the culture of their
corporate boards, Japan is missing out on many opportunities to look beyond their borders and
successfully grow their economy.
Weak Banking Sector

Why Do People Love And Hate Chinese Food?
How are you different from every other human being on this planet? While it is true that we 're all
here sharing the experience of being human, and that gives us commonality, we are each totally
unique beings having our own unique experience of life. Think about it. You can see this truth in the
simplest of things. Some people love the beach while others love the mountains. Some people love
Chinese food, while others hate it. Some people love modern art; others hate it. Some people like
trucks while others prefer sports cars. We are all having our own unique experience in life – leading
to things we like and don 't like, that we think are good or bad – sourced out of the totally unique
entity we each are. How is it that you determine what 's true for you? Have you ever thought about
that? Why do you prefer the beach or the mountains? Why do you love or hate Chinese food? Why
do you love or hate modern art? Why do you prefer trucks or sports cars? Or why do you not care
for any of these things at all? How do you know these things? Where does that knowledge come
from? One of the most powerful stories I was ever told, and one which helped me embrace my
unique truth and experience in life, I call "The Analogy of The Tongue." I know that may sound a

The Music Video Of Hong Kong
Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, "Ong Ong", on June 3rd 2015.
The whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink color and
cute figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video featuring
the interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song 's name, "Ong
Ong" is actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong Kong, and a lot
of locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( "Blur – The Magic Whip: Made in
Hong Kong."). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between the issues in Hong
Kong and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct presentation of the status
in Hong Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot easily be discovered because it
will result in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With the reason above and that the band
members think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a main strategy, which is to introduce
Hong Kong to their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and seemly meaningless emotion of blur,
just as their band 's name. In order to pass their message carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy,
funny villains, and, most of all, strong images. First of all, the music video conducts a traditional
fairytale story, which most of the boys and girls fantasized as kids, as a metaphor for the people of

My Best Friend
For my essay, I want to describe about my best friend leaving me and how it affected my life. This
experience made me realize how important a friend is and how it feels so empty when someone who
was always there is not there anymore.
I first met Paul in church when I first came to China in 2010. Back then, I had no friends in China, it
was a totally different environment to me so I was having a hard time making new friends. In
addition to that, I was a very shy kid. However, Paul and some other Korean friends in the church
reached out to me first, and they were the first friends that I made in China. We always hanged out
together and slowly got to know each other very well.
Paul was born in China because his father was engaged in missionary work in China even before he
was born. He was always bright and he loved to play sport. Every Sunday afternoon, group of
Korean boys including Paul and me went out to play sport. On sunny days we played soccer and
basketball on the field, and on rainy days we played badminton inside the gym, and this is how I got
interested in sports too. We also often went to a Karaoke room together, it was always fun to go with
Paul because he was not a good singer, you should listen to him singing some high ton songs. He is
a little bit taller than me and he is quite handsome, so I know quite a few girls who he dated with.
By the way, what I just mentioned is a secret. Like this we were always together, haven't even
imagine one of us leaving to another place.
It was last year's winter, I heard some news about Chinese government banishing some missionaries
from China. At that moment I did not know that is going be happened to Paul's father. Paul did not
tell me much about it, but from other people, I heard that his father is having some hard time. I was
very anxious about what was happening to him, but I did not ask him anything until he told me. He
later said that he and his family are going to leave China very soon in about a week, because some
Chinese police officers were keeping coming to his house and bothering him, trying to get Paul's
family out of China. He said that his family held out for about a month, but then the polices started

In contemporary China, law is perceived by the public as the 'modern form of petitioning'
(Johnson, 2004, p. 52), an opportunity for ordinary citizens to seek for fair treatments and
vindication of their rights. However, flaws in the Chinese legal system provide opportunities, one
after another, for executive intervention and abuse of the regime, which renders law unable to
protect the disadvantaged and exploited. From my point of view, the faulty legal system, has given
the disadvantaged a sense of relative deprivation. Frustrated to rely on the ineffective formal
channels, more people choose to engage in protests and rebellions to communicate their thoughts to
the central authority and gain public attention. Although the ideologies of democracy and rule of law

Healthcare Potition : The Causes Of Healthcare Corruption...
I. Background
In the past several years, China's unprecedented economic growth has helped millions of Chinese
move out of poverty. However, a lot of problems have emerged, with corruption being the most
serious one. According to the Communist Party's corruption watchdog, "Chinese authorities have
punished more than 210,000 officials for corruption in the first half of 2017." The statistics suggest
that a great number of government officials in China are carrying out corrupted acts, and the
situation is almost uncontrollable.
Although political corruption calls most of the media's attention, it is removed from the average
person's life. By contrast, given little attention, healthcare corruption is actually what affects
millions of ordinary Chinese citizens the most. In recent years, hospitals and doctors are involved in
many scandals, such as: arbitrary levying of medical fees, taking bribes (kickbacks) from
pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies during the procurement process and using
substandard or fake medicines to treat patients (Waikeung Tam). In 2013, It was reported that in
Zhengzhou, a city in China, "1088 doctors and 133 administrators from 73 hospitals in the city were
found taking bribes and kickbacks, totaling US$ 3.34 million." The shocking statistics indicate the
severity and prevalence of healthcare corruption in China.

Chinese People Leaving China Research Paper
Besides educational reason people leave china people they are feeling suffocated, metaphorically

Cancer is the number one killer in China and hundreds of thousands of deaths are occur just from
the pollution in the air alone. Aside from that they water poses a major threat aswell, 500 million
people have trouble accessing clean water. In some cities you can hardly see the sun and children are
routinely dying from lead poisoning. While the suppression of communism is not nearly as deadly,
people are still leaving becuase they simply don't agree with the communist ideals, and would rather
not live under that rule. With all factors considered it is easy to see why the number of people

The Construction Of Early Chinese Housing

  • 1. The Construction Of Early Chinese Housing Early Chinese housing was much like that of the rest of the world: cave dwellings. Where caves were not available or the geology could not support such dwellings, nest dwellings were an alternative. Until resources and building techniques were improved, the caves provided superior protection from the elements during the winter with nest dwellings providing a better ventilated area during the hotter summer days. Permanent dwellings began to emerge with the introduction of earth pounding techniques. This provided a stable foundation and the use of bricks was later developed for use as the base. It was around 2100 BC to 500 BC in which the most significant improvements in housing emerged. The use of slave labor combined with the influx of new and different ideas from repeated conquests shifted the housing styles from in ground, to elevated platforms. This shift in technique was seen in Chinese housing up until the modern times. The three bay houses were the most common type of elevated home. Larger multi–bayed houses existed, even large complexes, to accommodate an extended family. However, a larger home was a sign of greater wealth. Balance, symmetry, and other elements of Feng–shui were driving factors in the construction, renovation, and expansion of Chinese housing. This oriental technique capitalized on the use of an open courtyard. The center of the building was a shrine for the deities and the ancestors, as well as a space for hosting guests. • 5. Comparing The Three People's Principles And The Future Of... Sun Yat–sen wrote The Three People's Principles and the Future of the Chinese People in 1906 while China was ruled by a monarch. During the Qing dynasty, the monarch controlled much of the lives of the Chinese people. This caused many hardships for the population. If China wanted to progress and grow as a nation, the monarch needed to be defeated. Sun Yat–sen worked to improve the lives of the Chinese people by bettering their government through nationalism, democracy, and people's livelihood. Yat–sen used nationalism as one of his main driving forces to start a revolution. He states that the people of the Han are a lost nation because they are being discriminated by their monarchial leaders. By uniting together, the Han should be able to ... • 9. How China Has Improved International Presence China was the most civilized country having outpaced other world regions for several centuries. The country faced a major backlash in the nineteenth and twentieth countries whereby it experienced civil wars, foreign occupations, dreaded famines, and military attacks that left the security of the country prone to attacks. Chinese government supported communism after World War II consequently adopting an autocratic leadership style to cater for the welfare of Chinese citizens. However, the successors of Mao Zedong adopted a market–oriented economic system which sky– rocketed the economic growth of China since 1978. Currently, China has the second largest economy after the USA and boasts of its fastest economic growth rate in the world. Eventually, the living standard of the large portion of the Chinese population has dramatically increased. Moreover, Chinese have been given the freedom to make personal decisions, but the political measures are still tight (The World Factbook, 2016). China has enhanced its international presence by ensuring that it participated in the international organizations and enhanced the global outreach. China has applied authoritative leadership style for centuries whereby the subjects are given little autonomy make decisions. Chinese leaders make decisions without the involvement of subjects. The leaders motivate their citizens by making visions that inspire Chinese citizens to conduct their duties with determination and diligence. Mao Zedong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Daniele Varè: The Last Empress The Last Empress by Daniele Varè The Empress Dowager Tzi–his (1835–1908) was a unique ruler unlike any other China had ever seen. She is considered to be one of the most influential people in Chinese history, a rarity in the male dominated Chinese world. The empress dowager exerted great power over the Chinese empire and influenced the political structure in ways it had never been influenced before, making many great reforms that she believed would help the Chinese people. Born on November 29th, 1835, Tzi–hsi was named Yehonala after her tribe. Her father, Huei–cheng died when she was a child and her family took care of her until she was sent to Emperor Hsien– Feng's court as a concubine. Although Hsien–Feng had many wives and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Last Empress by Daniele Varè does an excellent job of portraying these events in detail as well as providing cultural background in which to better understand the events and the circumstances of her life. The vivid depiction of the Empress Dowager gives intimate details of Tzi–his's life, her personality and the motivations that drove her to propose the reforms and ideas that she did. It provides an in depth look into her life through social and political spheres in which she existed. The King's College History Department in its review said: Varè is successful in writing this primarily because she does not attempt to judge wherther the actions of the empress were good or bad. The strict reporting of the facts with very little speculation makes this book extremely useful...Her point of view is that even if she did do many things that were negative along with some that were positive this only goes to show she is human. (1) Varè does do an excellent job of portraying the life of the Empress in an objective manner. So often it is easy to judge historical figures by their actions, but what is important to remember is that they were only doing what they knew, and what they thought was best for the country. The Empress Dowager was doing what she thought was best, and although her decisions did not necessarily result in the best of circumstances for China, she was a very influential figure regardless. • 17. Ghost Cities, And Real Estate Bubbles Development, Urbanization, Ghost Cities, and Real Estate Correlation in China: Another Perspective The People 's Republic of China has had one of the wildest real estate sectors of any large–scale global economy. Chinese real estate value have been appreciating dramatically and at least abroad in the United States, media outlets have been covering this topic in an extremely sensationalistic way reporting "ghost cities," and "real–estate bubbles" at their bursting point. Yale Professor Stephen Roach[1] says that China 's modernization is the "greatest urbanization story that the world has ever seen." A plethora of articles and documentaries cover the phenomenon of "Ghost Cities" which are supposedly the symbols of economic waste and rampant industrialization in the People 's Republic of China. Observers blame the rise of these "Ghost Cities" on corrupt funding via risk–laden local–government financing vehicles and as symptoms of China ' inevitable demise. The skyscraper–filled skylines of a number of Chinese cities remain eerily vacant devoid of inhabitants. Yujiapu, located in Conch Bay north of the bustling port city of Tianjin is a backdrop of dirty vacant office towers and unfinished hotels that strangely resembles New York 's Big Apple. Situated in a river bend, and modeled after Manhattan, Yujiapu was envisioned in 2008 to become the new financial center of the world complete with a Rockefeller Plaza and China 's version of the Twin Towers. • 21. Essay about Simple is Gold For the Chinese People in... Keeping things simple in "Golden Mountain", also known as Canada, is extremely important for most of the Chinese people who came to Canada. In my opinion, it is important to them for three main reasons. First, they need to ensure that their paper histories are original in the eye of Canada's immigration officers. Second, they only say those things that are necessary so Canadians can understand them. Lastly, they do not want to forget their origins by not assimilating too much into Western culture. Hence, it is important for Chinese immigrants who came to Canada to keep things simple and we need to discuss this further to know more deeply about why it is important to be simple in Canada. First of all, the Chinese people who came to Canada ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be seen in the novel that old timers like Wong Kimlein only say a little about themselves when someone asks him about his past : "What was it like when you were a little boy?" He roared with laughter or sighed deeply. "Too long ago," he would say, and leave me guessing."(Choy 61). Additionally, young generation, like Jook–Liang and Jung–Sum, are assimilating a little bit to make life simpler or easier. For instance, the children who are a part of the Chen family just need to call their uncle, "uncle" instead of using the old Chinese traditional titles which apply differently for each relative or friend. Therefore, they are keeping traditional family titles simple by only saying what is necessary to prevent more or worse marginalization from outsiders or those who are listening, and this adaption to language can possibly make their lives easier. Lastly, Chinese immigrants choose not to assimilate too much because they want to keep everything close to their home as well as they do not want to get caught up in a third space situation. They do not want to forget who they are and where they are from. Therefore, some Chinese immigrants want all aspects which define their identity to be close to them, even if they live in Canada now. Take the case of a Chinese teenager who came to Canada to continue his study, but he was already assimilating too much that his cultural identity faded slowly. At the end, he ... • 25. Essay On Cyber Security China's Increased Cybersecurity Measures While the articles from the New York Times following the WannaCry attack seem primarily focused on the who, what, when, where, why aspect of the attack, China Daily almost immediately begins discussing 'what's next' for China regarding cyber security. A May 18th article posted by China Daily poses these questions "What measures should China take for its cyber security? And what should individuals do for self–protection?" followed by the advice of two Chinese cyber security experts (note: the entirety of this article could not be accessed unless an online subscription to the paper was purchased). On June 1st, China passed a new cybersecurity law, just three weeks following the WannaCry attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The content of this law and/or laws is also vague; however, the general theme seems to be that this law or laws affect how data is collected and that the measures will help curb cyber–attacks in China. China Daily frames increased cybersecurity measures in China as positive, while articles in the New York Times are more skeptical. Criticism of Censorship As previously mentioned, the New York Times seems skeptical in its reporting of the increased cyber security measures, and even criticizes that these changes will seclude China and continue to promote limits on the content available online to Chinese citizens: Officials say the rules will help stop cyberattacks and help prevent acts of terrorism, while critics say they will further erode internet freedom. Business groups worry that parts of the law – such as required security checks on companies in industries like finance and communications, and mandatory in–country data storage – will make foreign operations more expensive or lock them out altogether. Individual users will have to register their real names to use messaging services in China. Restrictions on the flow of data across borders "provide no security benefits but will create barriers to Chinese as well as foreign companies operating in industries where data needs to be shared internationally," James Zimmerman, chairman of the ... There are challenges though: * Foreign airlines cannot run domestic routes * EMS, the local parcel delivery service, is less expensive than the entering international companies (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.) * Brand recognition is low on the mainland, this goes back to Chinese culture of keeping with tradition (including traditional companies) UPS was able to overcome this with their participation in the Olympic Games (Charlotte – Business) The air–express segment of the domestic package–delivery market – including letters and packages, overnight, deferred and air or air–and–ground – made up $25 billion of the $45 billion industry (Bruner & Carr, 2010) and is a key driver for both firms in Asian territories (Bruner & Carr, 2010) along with commercial volume. • 33. Perception of the Chinese People Introduction I Choose China because I am part Chinese and wanted to understand their culture a lot better. I believe if I learn more about the Chinese culture I will be able to understand their communication and tendencies better. Also to be honest I am just as guilty as anyone in not knowing the differences between Japanese and Chinese culture, so on a side note I also hope to clear up a few misunderstandings. At the very least you will know some information about the Chinese culture solving part of the problem of the perception on Chinese people. Mandarin is China's official language. Chinese Communication patterns can be easily misunderstood by people sometimes leading to conflict. The Chinese have a reputation for 'impassiveness.' This is mainly because people of different cultures misinterpret Chinese body language and gestures. With 1.3 billion people, the world's second–largest economy, and the fastest economic growth among industrialized nations, China is an undisputed economic powerhouse, so it would not be a bad idea to become more familiarized with their communication patterns in their business, education, and healthcare. Business China is the world's second largest economy. Many U.S companies are multinational already, and many more expect China to be a growing source of their revenue. Learning proper etiquette is a must before conducting business in China. When conducting business its never a good idea to be late but especially when meeting with Chinese ... The social organizations, such as NGOs, have a significant role in connecting the state and the society and in enhancing their relationship. The government is making efforts to involve the society in the developments through the social organizations. Wang and Carl explain that the increasing social unrest is a force generated from communist rule, increasing the need for the government to respond the people's needs. Social organizations have been used in the control of unrest of people created by previous leaders through the introduction of reforms dating back to 1990's. In light of the challenges of dealing with societal unrest, the government's response was to involve society in major decisions, thus initiating the formation of social organizations. In the article "The Rise of the Chinese Security State," Wang and Carl mention that there was establishment of special offices for dealing with social stability, an example of these special offices being the anti–cult departments; and those special offices being predecessors of social organizations. "Little pink" refers to those young, patriotic, especially female netizens who attack the western media, politicians' and even popular singer's accounts of slighting China and Chinese people. One character they shared is most of them are members of an online literature–related forum, which has the all pink–colored background. These girls are called "little pink" consequently. The first occurrence of these people could be derived from the year of 2008, when the Olympic Games was held in Beijing, China. A bunch of vocally patriotic overseas students and immigrants, predominately female, started to criticize the western media of defaming China's image around the world. Later in 2015, the word "little pink" was firstly created in a cyber conflict between several users of weibo (a widely–used Chinese social media, like twitter). User A is blamed by User B for smearing and mocking the image of China. Then user A called user B "little pink" as a counterattack due to user B's gender of female, patriotism ideas and the way she dresses. The Chinese People 's Liberation Army Essay The Chinese People's Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military modernization in the 1980's and they have been continually reforming their training and education of their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People's Liberation Army recognized that improving the military skills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike were necessary prerequisites if they wanted to be able to utilize more advanced weaponry and fight in this day and age. During the modernization of the People's Liberation Army funding was increased for military education, the study of foreign militaries was incorporated into their training curriculum and contacts with foreign military academies was increased. These conflicts led to rise of philosophical thinkings, of which one of the most popular ones was Marxism. The storied struggle between factory owners increasing profits and worker's wage stagnation had been present in Hong Kong for decades before the 1967 disturbances. Seamen from Guangzhou province and Hong Kong went on strike because the poor wages Chinese Seamen received compared to Europeans in addition to the rising cost of living. The strike stopped food from coming into Hong Kong and was declared illegal by the government. Negotiations took place and their wages were raised in the same year. • 92. Causes Of Rural Urban Divide Of China Causes of Rural–Urban Divide: Hukou China's rural–urban gaps are much larger than those found in most other developing countries. This rural–urban divide can be traced back to before the first economic reform. Beginning in the 1950s, China separated urban and rural residents through a strictly enforced household registration system (hukou) and focused mainly on the development of urban cities. Hukou refers to permanent residency status and can be extremely hard to get in major cities since it is tie to benefit levels, which differ across provinces and between urban residents and rural residents. An urban hukou provides a relatively comprehensive system of health care and retirement pensions in that particular city, while a rural hukou a much lower standard of welfares. Furthermore, data shows hukou also significantly affects people's labor–market return and wages through its influence on their return to education. Individuals' human capital was largely determined by the place (rural versus urban) where they were born and received their education, which highlights the role of China 's rural–urban divide in shaping people 's labor–market return. From 1980 to 2010, China relied on a uniquely successful investment– and export–led development model for its 30–year miracle of double digit GDP growth. • 108. My National Identity Lies With Hong Kong Essay I was born in Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong is not a nation and is a part of China, my national identity lies with Hong Kong. After the British took control of Hong Kong, Hong Kong became more prosperous and adopted a capitalist system (Rothman, 2014). Due to the democratic freedom that the capitalist system gave, the citizens of Hong Kong became pro–democracy (Rothman, 2014). Hence, before Hong Kong was back under China's control, the U.K. and China agreed upon "one country, two systems" (Rothman, 2014). "One country, two systems" means that under China, Hong Kong is allowed to use the capitalist system they have adopted. After the re–assimilation of Hong Kong, tensions between China and Hong Kong rose due to political and cultural differences (Chan, 2014). Many citizens of Hong Kong believe that calling themselves Chinese is demeaning and instead refer to themselves as "Hongkongers" (Chan, 2014). I also share that belief which is why my national identity lies with Hong Kong and not China. Hong Kong's national identity is unique because Hong Kong was once under British control. Their culture is a mix of Western and Chinese. Hence, the role of gender and the appearance of a family in the self–image of the nation vastly differs from China. However in history's recent past it has fallen to Japan and Communism. Both of which can be viewed through the lens of good and the lense of bad. However for the China born author Ha Jin it is not viewed under the light of prosperity but instead dread and oppression. These are not tales to be taken lightly in any sense but instead to show how humanity is not always human and empathy is not always present in one's soul. Ha Jin uses dramatic events and actions with certain points of view to develop characters that antagonize Communist and Japanese rule over China. Jin's story begins with the novel, Nanjing Requiem, which begins in the year 1937 at the brink of the Japanese invasion of Nanjing. Nanjing is the southern capital of China and a city known to be a place of politics, art, and education (Kuo). Inside the city stands a women's only college known as Jinling University and at the time of the novel the institution was overseen by American missionary Minnie Vautrin. Hilton finds the college to be a representation of civilization that is constantly put at risk by evil. The novel itself is of the perseverance of the Chinese people and Minnie Vautrin when Nanjing University turns into a refugee camp with over 10,000 refugees. Each of these refugees and Minnie herself would do their best to survive the Japanese atrocities and war crimes, although in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ngo In China Past three decades of NGOs in China Non–governmental organization (NGO) is not an organization of government or a conventional for– profit business. In China, NGOs are silently different from the definition of general NGOs in which some of them have closer link with the government. There are two types of NGOs in China–"officially organized NGOs" and "popular NGOs". The former are initiated by the government and the other one are initiated by private citizens and receive no government subsidies. However, we are focusing on the development of NGOs in China, so we are not going to discuss the differences. For the economic development, the reason for NGOs of China are growing fast in past three decades is obvious. China has reformed its economy from Planned to a market Economy in which the government launched open door policy in 1978. From the economic reform, China improve its productivity, people's ... The Chinese government is not willing to see this incidents again. The best way to maintain the stability is to concern and try to solve their problems. They will realize the crux of the problem, then they will speed up the reform of the NGOs like give autonomy to them. Thirdly, we should remember China still is a developing country. There are many restrictions and considerations when forming NGO and implement works. Some laws hinder the development of NGOs like the funding. However, in the long–run, I think it is not a problem. As China is still finding a way to develop its country. They will amend its law for the interest of the nation. The most serious problem is the politics. Political pressure weaken the function of NGOs. I think it is hard to change the mindset of China government, but if the law amendments are well–developed, the NGOs development will be ... Ruling from 1662 to 1722 he was also one of the longest ruling emperors in Chinese history and for that matter the world. K'ang–hsi brought China to long–term stability and relative wealth after years of war and chaos. Jonathan Spence writes from the eyes of K'ang–hsi getting his information from K'ang–hsi's own writings. Though a little biased towards himself this book still provides important insight into his mind. Emperor of China is divided into six parts; In Motion, Ruling, Thinking, Growing Old, Sons, and Valedictory. In the first episode, In Motion, Spence tells the audience about K'ang–hsi's travels and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... K'ang–hsi tried to stay open with the public about his health, explaining that this is the "ultimate form of honesty." Emperor K'ang–hsi tried to live forever through his children. He had 56 children all together but only one with his first wife, who later took over the thrown. The Emperor was very protective of his sons and made sure they got everything they wanted. He would often kill someone that threatened the chance of a power overthrow. He once killed three cooks and several servant boys for suspicion of homosexual activity with his son Yin–jeng. At the end of K'ang–hsi's life, he became very senile and distant from reality and the Chinese people. Even though Spence goes into great detail about Emperor K'ang–hsi's life than any history book could have. He does this by emphasizing his writings and not other sources. The downfall to this is he does not go into great detail about many of the facts or important historical events. By this time China had foreign intervention and influence; Spence did not address any of the foreign policies K'ang–hsi made during his reign. Spence only wrote one paragraph about the confrontations with Russia, but the real even actually lasted over several decades. And the only thing that was mentioned was how nice the Emperor was to the Russian prisoners. • 124. Asian Gold Miners And Its Effects On The Chinese People... The Chinese began to immigrate overseas after many years of harsh living conditions in China. Some of these contributions were; the Opium wars (1839–42, 1856–60), the Taiping rebellion (1856–64), famine, and a sinking economy. These grave circumstances led to them flocking to faraway lands to seek work. One of the main draws of California for the Chinese was the opportunity for a better life through gold digging and fertile soil. The struggles for these travelers began early with the voyage, journeying on "coolie" ships in inhumane conditions caused the loss of many lives. Passengers were packed into steerage at the bottom of the boat, with poor ventilation and over–crowding sickness ran ramped. When these "celestials" as Americans called them, arrived in San Francisco or "Dabu– the first city" many found work as miners, farmhands, railroad builders, fishermen, or laundrymen. Asian gold miners had many obstacles to contend with, for one the new foreign miners' tax was extremely difficult for the Chinese to supply. Also the attacks of racist fellow miners had no penalty. Due to the case of People v. hall (1854) the Chinese were not allowed to witness in legal proceedings against whites. While most miners had more rights as citizens, this was impossible for the Chinese because the California constitution allowed only whites to become be state citizens. Some Asians tried to naturalize, such as Sang Yuen who changed his name to Norman Asing and converted to Christianity in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes of Japanese Stagnation Causes of Japanese Stagnation Weak Corporate Governance Corporate governance has been a major issue for Japan and has undoubtedly affected the economic growth of the country. In 2012, what is considered commonplace in regards to corporate governance in many countries, including Asian countries, is not the norm in Japan. For example, in countries like India, China, and South Korea, companies are required to have at least one independent director. In New York, a firm must have a majority of independent members in their board of directors. According to a study in 2011, out of 1,668 Japanese firms only 34% had at least one independent director. (insert citation). According to Yuko Kawamoto of Waseda University, Japanese bosses argue that "similar rules in Japan would limit managers' freedom" (as stated in "Back to the Drawing Board," 2012). Also in Japan, shareholders do not have any one to advocate for them because boardroom committees have no legal status ("Corporate Governance in Japan," 2012). All of this, coupled with Japan's culture of foreign exclusion, is a big problem for the country. By not paying attention to its competitors, especially in Asia, and not expanding the culture of their corporate boards, Japan is missing out on many opportunities to look beyond their borders and successfully grow their economy. Weak Banking Sector During the 1990s, Japan began to experience a slow decline in the health of its banking sector, which ultimately led to a banking crisis in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While it is true that we 're all here sharing the experience of being human, and that gives us commonality, we are each totally unique beings having our own unique experience of life. Think about it. You can see this truth in the simplest of things. Some people love the beach while others love the mountains. Some people love Chinese food, while others hate it. Some people love modern art; others hate it. Some people like trucks while others prefer sports cars. We are all having our own unique experience in life – leading to things we like and don 't like, that we think are good or bad – sourced out of the totally unique entity we each are. How is it that you determine what 's true for you? Have you ever thought about that? Why do you prefer the beach or the mountains? Why do you love or hate Chinese food? Why do you love or hate modern art? Why do you prefer trucks or sports cars? Or why do you not care for any of these things at all? How do you know these things? Where does that knowledge come from? One of the most powerful stories I was ever told, and one which helped me embrace my unique truth and experience in life, I call "The Analogy of The Tongue." I know that may sound a little gross, but it is memorable. Years ago a good friend of mine saw that I was struggling to really embrace who I was as a minister, an evolutionary advocate, and a spiritual conduit. I didn 't really know what was evolving ... • 136. The Music Video Of Hong Kong Blur, a British band, released their official music video of the song, "Ong Ong", on June 3rd 2015. The whole music video is weird to most people because of its image covering with pink color and cute figures. The song is from the album called The Magic Whip. According to the video featuring the interviews of makings this album, the song is made in Hong Kong, and the song 's name, "Ong Ong" is actually derived from Hong Kong. This means that the song is about Hong Kong, and a lot of locations in Hong Kong are mentioned in the lyrics as well ( "Blur – The Magic Whip: Made in Hong Kong."). All in all, we can assume that there are some connections between the issues in Hong Kong and the cute music video. Instead of heavy, sad and relatively direct presentation of the status in Hong Kong, they choose to present vague metaphors that cannot easily be discovered because it will result in serious trouble if addressed directly in public. With the reason above and that the band members think Hong Kong is a cute place, they developed a main strategy, which is to introduce Hong Kong to their fans with a series of cute, relaxing, and seemly meaningless emotion of blur, just as their band 's name. In order to pass their message carefully and vaguely, they use fantasy, funny villains, and, most of all, strong images. First of all, the music video conducts a traditional fairytale story, which most of the boys and girls fantasized as kids, as a metaphor for the people of Hong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This experience made me realize how important a friend is and how it feels so empty when someone who was always there is not there anymore. I first met Paul in church when I first came to China in 2010. Back then, I had no friends in China, it was a totally different environment to me so I was having a hard time making new friends. In addition to that, I was a very shy kid. However, Paul and some other Korean friends in the church reached out to me first, and they were the first friends that I made in China. We always hanged out together and slowly got to know each other very well. Paul was born in China because his father was engaged in missionary work in China even before he was born. He was always bright and he loved to play sport. Every Sunday afternoon, group of Korean boys including Paul and me went out to play sport. On sunny days we played soccer and basketball on the field, and on rainy days we played badminton inside the gym, and this is how I got interested in sports too. We also often went to a Karaoke room together, it was always fun to go with Paul because he was not a good singer, you should listen to him singing some high ton songs. He is a little bit taller than me and he is quite handsome, so I know quite a few girls who he dated with. By the way, what I just mentioned is a secret. Like this we were always together, haven't even imagine one of us leaving to another place. It was last year's winter, I heard some news about Chinese government banishing some missionaries from China. At that moment I did not know that is going be happened to Paul's father. Paul did not tell me much about it, but from other people, I heard that his father is having some hard time. I was very anxious about what was happening to him, but I did not ask him anything until he told me. He later said that he and his family are going to leave China very soon in about a week, because some Chinese police officers were keeping coming to his house and bothering him, trying to get Paul's family out of China. He said that his family held out for about a month, but then the polices started to visit his school and threatened him, so his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Featuring three groups of protagonists, namely the 'peasant champion' who filed class–action lawsuit against the government for over–taxing, the Beijing citizens whose residence were destroyed for property development, and the daughter whose mother was killed in the suppression of Falun Gong, the book not only has envisioned me on some of the most ... In contemporary China, law is perceived by the public as the 'modern form of petitioning' (Johnson, 2004, p. 52), an opportunity for ordinary citizens to seek for fair treatments and vindication of their rights. However, flaws in the Chinese legal system provide opportunities, one after another, for executive intervention and abuse of the regime, which renders law unable to protect the disadvantaged and exploited. From my point of view, the faulty legal system, has given the disadvantaged a sense of relative deprivation. Frustrated to rely on the ineffective formal channels, more people choose to engage in protests and rebellions to communicate their thoughts to the central authority and gain public attention. Although the ideologies of democracy and rule of law have not been well developed and accepted by the 2

Background In the past several years, China's unprecedented economic growth has helped millions of Chinese move out of poverty. However, a lot of problems have emerged, with corruption being the most serious one. According to the Communist Party's corruption watchdog, "Chinese authorities have punished more than 210,000 officials for corruption in the first half of 2017." The statistics suggest that a great number of government officials in China are carrying out corrupted acts, and the situation is almost uncontrollable. Although political corruption calls most of the media's attention, it is removed from the average person's life. By contrast, given little attention, healthcare corruption is actually what affects millions of ordinary Chinese citizens the most. In recent years, hospitals and doctors are involved in many scandals, such as: arbitrary levying of medical fees, taking bribes (kickbacks) from pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies during the procurement process and using substandard or fake medicines to treat patients (Waikeung Tam). In 2013, It was reported that in Zhengzhou, a city in China, "1088 doctors and 133 administrators from 73 hospitals in the city were found taking bribes and kickbacks, totaling US$ 3.34 million." The shocking statistics indicate the severity and prevalence of healthcare corruption in China. II. Chinese People Leaving China Research Paper Besides educational reason people leave china people they are feeling suffocated, metaphorically and physically, by the environment and communist government. Education is not the only reason people are feeling the need to flee. China has the worst air pollution mainly due to burning coal. Cancer is the number one killer in China and hundreds of thousands of deaths are occur just from the pollution in the air alone. Aside from that they water poses a major threat aswell, 500 million people have trouble accessing clean water. In some cities you can hardly see the sun and children are routinely dying from lead poisoning. While the suppression of communism is not nearly as deadly, people are still leaving becuase they simply don't agree with the communist ideals, and would rather not live under that rule. With all factors considered it is easy to see why the number of people leaving China continue to steadily rise.
