Eli Lilly And Company : Lilly Essay
Eli Lilly and Company Eli Lilly & Company (Lilly) was founding in 1876 by Colonel Eli Lilly in
Indianapolis, Indiana. A veteran of the United States Civil War and a pharmaceutical chemist by
trade, Lilly set out to start a company with three underlying goals. First manufacture high quality
pharmaceutical products, second medications would be dispensed by medical staff rather than
through a mobile tradeshows which was popular at the time, and finally, Lilly's medication would be
developed using current science data. In 1886, Lilly went on to hire a pharmaceutical chemist which
led to Lilly's esteemed research and development history that they are known for to this very day
(Lilly, 2015). In fact, some of the greatest advances in medication can be traced back to Lilly. Lilly's
research and development for insulin dates back to 1923 and continues to this day (Lilly, 2015).
Lilly also had a hand in mass producing Penicillin and the Polio Vaccine. According to the Eli Lilly
& Company Annual Report (2015), over 50% of the vaccine used to eradicate polio was Eli Lilly
labeled. Through research and development, Lilly's storied past continued with the development of
some of the most popular drugs to treat depression (Prozac), diabetes (Humulin), oral antibiotic
(Ceclor), schizophrenia (Zypexa), postmenopausal osteoporosis (Evista), and male erectile
dysfunction (Cialis) just to name a few. Through Lilly's core values– integrity, excellence, and

The Hurt Locker, Directed by Kathryn Bigelow Essay
As most of you know by now the movie The Hurt Locker won the Oscar for movie of the year, and
this makes me very angry. My civilian friends keep asking me why I'm so mad, because most of
them enjoyed watching it. Simply put it's because the movie is full of lies, exaggerations, and ugly
people. 'But it's a movie' they say, 'of course it's not realistic'. That's strange.. because the back of
The Hurt Locker box says 'Powerfully Realistic'. Yet this movie is about as far from realism that a
movie can be (this claim includes all movies about time travel, and vampires, but excludes any
movies starring the Wayans brothers). Don't get me wrong here– I'm not a stickler for all military
realism. The military uniforms in the Transformers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So if Magneto is SO powerful why didn't he just rip up the foundations of the prison and take it to
his evil hideout instead of relocating a bridge for an obviously suicidal frontal assault? Fantasmical
stupidity at its finest– and that is why X–Men 3 will never live up to its predecessors. When I first
thought about writing this blog entry I considered writing a list of all the mistakes the movie makes,
but my list became way too long and boring. Instead I decided to describe just how outlandish The
Hurt Locker is by writing my own movie script, but this one is the medical equivalent, I call this

Janet 's Case For Life Insurance
Janet applied for life insurance on February 10, 2003. The amount her policy would pay out upon
her death would be $250,000. On September 1, 2005 Janet was sadly murdered which caused the
life insurance company to pay out the beneficiary who in our case is Janet's husband, Craig.
Although the contract should have been paid out in full upon Janet's death, the insurance company is
refusing to pay out the policy. When Janet applied for life insurance in 2003 she when through an
extensive application form which is typical for all life insurance contracts. On this form she was
asked about her health specifically if she had been operated on or been hospitalized in the last ten
years. Along with that and many other things Janet was asked if she had any lung disorders. She
replied to both of these questions with no when in fact she had been in the hospital several times in
the last ten years and had a lung disorder. She suffers from recurrent chest pains and abdominal
pains. She has also been diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. For these two reason and more the
life insurance company is refusing to payout the policy to Craig.
A normal case of life insurance is paid out upon the death of the person insured but in this
circumstance the payment is being withheld. The main legal issue in this case is can the life
insurance company withhold payment of the insured amount. On that another hand does Craig, the
beneficiary of the life insurance, have the right to receive or to be owed the

Analysis Of The Article ' Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
In the article "Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act," the National Women's Law Center states, on average,
women earn 78 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn. Of these women, African
American women earn 64 cents, while Latin American women earn a mere 55 cents. The Lilly
Ledbetter Fair Pay Act became one of the many stepping stones in achieving equal pay. Women
must continue to make people aware of the discrimination they faced in the workplace on a daily
basis.
Wage discrimination is embedded in our legal system. The ongoing battle for equal pay for women
dates back to the Civil War. Throughout history, men seemed as the ideal–type of employers. Men
were primary the breadwinners, and women who worked at the time only pinch in money oppose to
having a stable salary equivalent to their male counterparts. The job roles such as nurses, teacher,
and retail sales clerk became a "traditional female" occupations. In "Here's the History of the Battle
for Equal Pay for American Women," Charlotte Alter points out a letter sent to the editor of the New
York Times on February 1869. In this letter, the writer questioned why female government officials
did not have similar pay to their male colleagues: 'Very few persons deny the justice of the principle
that equal work should command equal pay without regard to the sex of the laborer.' Even in the late
19th century in which men had far more opportunities than women, people question the inequality in
regards of the workplace. The

Advantages Of Unit Linked Insurance Plans
Chapter V
Summary of Finding and Conclusion
5.1 Introduction
A unit–linked insurance plan is a multi–featured product which combines the benefits of insurance,
risk sharing and investment. The investment in a unit linked insurance plan works like a mutual fund
and does not come with guaranteed returns, unlike money back, whole–life or endowment policies.
Hence a unit linked insurance plan combines the features of investment and life protection. It
enables the life insured to secure protection for their family in the event of untimely death and
simultaneously provides the life insured, an opportunity to earn a return on the premium paid
towards the policy. One of the biggest benefits of unit linked plans is that they provide the means for

Financial Statements Of American Heart Association
The financial statements of American Heart Association convey valuable information to outside
users about the organization and how it utilizes financial resources. The objective of this essay is to
identify five things that can be learned about an organization from their financial statements.
The first thing that can be learned about every nonprofit comes from reviewing the Statement of
Activities and the following Statement of Functional Expenses. These statements describe a broad
categorization of the different program related services provided and the supporting services needed
to run those programs. Expenses related to these programs are defined as those directly relating to
the organization's mission or purpose. For AHA, their programs include research, public health
education, professional education and training, and community services. Supporting services are
those that do not directly relate to the mission or purpose of the organization, and therefore can be
further split into services required to generate future contributions and services to run the
administrative side of the organization. The Statement of Functional Expenses provides a
breakdown of natural expenses (salaries, rent, professional fees, etc.) by the different program and
supporting services. This allows the user to see a breakdown of the salaries expense number by
program, fundraising, and administrative staff. A common tool for comparing and evaluating
nonprofits is to compare program expenses to

The Deregulation Of The Insurance Industry Essay
INTRODUCTION
Life insurance is a form of insurance that pays monetary proceeds upon the death of the insured
covered in the policy. Essentially, a life insurance policy is a contract between the named insured
and the insurance company wherein the insurance company agrees to pay an agreed sum of money
to the insured 's beneficiary. With a large population and the untapped market area insurance
happens to be a very big opportunity in India. Today it stands as a business growing at the rate of
15–20% annually. Together with banking services, it adds about 7 percent to the country's GDP. In
spite of all this, the growth statistics of the penetration of the insurance in the country is very poor.
Nearly 80% of Indian population is without life and health insurance cover. This is an indicator that
growth potential for the insurance sector is immense in India. It was due to this immense growth that
the regulations were introduced in the insurance sector and in continuation "Malhotra Committee"
was constituted by the government in 1993 to examine the various aspects of the industry. The key
element of the reform process was participation of overseas insurance companies with 26% capital.
Creating a more competitive financial system suitable for the requirements of the economy was the
main idea behind this reform.
CLASSIFICATION OF INSURANCE
The insurance industry in India can broadly classified in two parts. They are.
1) Life insurance.
2) Non–life (general) insurance.

Women´s Right Movement: Gender Inequality
"No Society treats its women as well as its men" is a quote from the United Nations Development
Program when they were asked about the issue of gender inequality, which was featured in the
Chicago Tribune News. Fifty years earlier, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which specified that everyone, regardless of gender, was
entitled to the same rights and freedoms (The Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Fifty years
later though, countries are still falling short of achieving the goal of gender equality. Many find it
hard to believe that the United States is among the countries that have yet to fulfill the goal of
achieving gender equality. Women began the fight for equality in 1848 by ... Show more content on

It also undermined the Congressional goal of eliminating discrimination in the workplace" (National
Women's Law Center). Women also face discrimination because they are often penalized for having
children. Women must face outdated ideas of what a woman can accomplish if she's pregnant or
already has children. The jobs that are considered traditional for women and are more understanding
about women being mothers, are usually the lowest–paying jobs. Another negative effect of gender
inequality is the increased fear of violence for women. Women are often portrayed as weak and
helpless beings that can easily be taken advantage of. United Nations Secretary–General Ban Ki–
moon states that, "Violence against women and girls continues unabated in every continent, country
and culture. It takes a devastating toll on women's lives, on their families and on society as a whole.
Most societies prohibit such violence –yet the reality is that too often, it is covered up or tacitly
condoned" (Unite to End Violence Againist Women, 2006). Violence against women in the form of
rape, spousal abuse, child abuse or spousal killing has become routine behavior over the years, so it
rarely even makes the news anymore. "Women aged 15–44 are more at risk from rape and domestic
violence than from cancer, motor accidents, war and malaria, according to World Bank data"( Unite
to End Violence Againist Women, 2006). Women are often blamed and questioned about their
actions if they become the

Institutional Funds Act (UMIFA): A Case Study
Until 2006, The NPF followed the guidelines laid down in the Uniform Management of Institutional
Funds Act (UMIFA). Under this act, the charitable organizations were allowed to spend the
appreciation difference from an endowment fund over the fund's "historic dollar value" to the extent
the organization deems it to be prudent. The historical value comprises of all the aggregate value of
contributions to an endowment fund at the time they were originally made. The charitable
organization could consider and spend some of the endowment fund appreciation as income, and put
it to use for relevant purposes. However, under UMIFA, once the amount of endowment fund falls
below its historical or original value (i.e. an underwater endowment fund), the ... Show more content

Since the firms struggled in meeting their expenses when the spending activities from the
underwater endowment funds were required to be ceased or limited, there felt a need for the change
in the policies and act to address these issues.
On xxxx, a new law was enacted to manage this issue. The Uniform Prudent Management of
Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) was more liberal and provided greater flexibility in terms of
spending from the underwater endowment funds. This revised statute, was enacted and adopted by
majority of the states and many organizations expressed their interest in rapid convergence to the
new law as unlike its predecessor the underwater endowment funds under this act could be still used
for spending.
The UMIFA and UPMIFA both define the term "endowment fund" as a fund that is restricted by the
donor so that it is not "wholly expendable by the organization on a current basis." Funds designated
as an endowment fund by an organization itself (i.e., board–restricted endowment funds) are not
endowment funds for purposes of the statutes.

Essay on Eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts
The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent agency of the federal government
specifically designed to support and enhances the art community for minority groups. The NEA was
founded in 1965 and has controlled the art community ever since. This has aided in censoring works
of supposedly obscene and controversial art. The elimination of the NEA, or making it a private
organization, would free much needed public tax dollars to go to more important parts of the nations
budgets, as well as open the art communities up for the freedom to exhibit the controversial pieces
of art work the NEA deems inappropriate.

The National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965 states that it is up to the Federal
Government to assist the local, state, regional and private agencies and artist in developing arts in
the communities in several different ways. It also states that the Federal Government is to encourage
freedom of thought, imagination, and inquiry but also the material conditions facilitating the release
of this creative talent. Lastly, the Act states that it is to fulfill an educational mission and make
widely available the greatest achievements of art "National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities
Act of 1965").
What the NEA set out to do and what it does are two different things. The NEA is first and foremost
set up as a nonpartisan branch of the government; however, throughout the past decade, the NEA
has been found in the pockets of many partisan politicians. An independent agency of the
government is supposedly not controlled by Democratic or Republic parties. In the past decade
proof of political control and gain has been proven to regulate the NEA. The parties use the NEA to
gain political standing in the races, and "[t]hey have been eager to promote government involvement
in setting the arts agenda–especially in creating art that promotes the... administration" (Keane 2).

administration was promoting. Prior to the Obama administration, there were

after the Government of Bangladesh allowed the private sector to operate in the insurance sector in

of life insurance business in Bangladesh is in order here. Bangladesh declared independence from
the Pakistani rules on March 26, 1971 following which she had to witness a bloody liberation
struggle with the occupation forces lasting for 9 months before they were defeated. Insurance
business which was exclusively carried on in private sector before independence was nationalized

the industry that was left staggeringly short of resources in the face of huge losses caused by the war
of liberation. After a series of experimentation, a state–owned body, namely Jiban Bima Corporation
(JBC), established in May, 1973 for transacting the life insurance business, took over the assets and
liabilities under life portfolios of all erstwhile private insurance companies and started business in its

The Wage Gap Between Women And Men
Abstract This study takes a look at the wage gap between women and men. It has always been
known that men make more money than women. Many acts of legislation have been passed to
address the disparities. But as time has progressed this topic is not one that grasps the attention of
society. Society feels that there are other more important topics to focus on. The inequities amongst
men and women pay has been in effect from the early 1800s and continues on in the new
millennium despite, the gains women have made. And unfortunately the millennium women have
many challenges that still lie ahead. This study has shown the transition from the early 1800s up

A look at the history of pay inequality as it relates to women, the Equal Pay Act, and where women
stand today will be studied throughout this paper. It will take a historical and qualitative approach to
finding the needed information that will shed light on this wage gap. Hopefully the information
gained will show that even 4–four decades later, it is still a great concern to all, since a lot of the
large corporations worldwide are guilty of practicing this inequity, even today. Research Questions
A lot of attention is placed on the inequity of pay for men and women. But as time passes, the focus
of this issue has subdued. This situation still exists, even though more politicized issues seem to be
taking precedence. The wage gap is not only an issue of men and women but also of other races and
ethnicities. Why does this continue to be a problem? Do wage gaps make women dependent on
men? Even in the light of statistics that shows the disparities, why do society feeling it's a thing of
the past? Will there always be a double standard that women are primarily made to be homemakers?
Do we give up the fight to expect equal compensations? Will the new millennium women totally put
this inequity to rest? My paper will seek why the disparities and what the future holds. Statistical

a retroactive refund of the premium paid during the first six months would be paid. (Rejda, George,

Having a Will can specifically state exactly what the decease last wishes were and by having a Trust
with someone assigned to the Trust or a guardian on the Will, will make everything crystal clear
with no hassles on what the last demands were. Another way is to use the fixed amount or fixed

Consumer Behavior Is Important For Business Firm Development
Consumer behaviour is always a crucial part for business firm development. International firms
invest myriad of money to understand their customers, in order to satisfy the need and wants of
customers. For example, IKEA, the world's leading home furnishing company, spent a total of £30
million in 2012. It aims to improve the shopping experience for customers, including the bedroom
showroom redesign. It is crystal clear that consumer behaviour plays a vital part in the success or
failure of a product. Meanwhile, consumer behaviour is a process which consumers go through
when they make purchases and it involves numerous factors that influence their decisions. As a
consumer, we make decisions every day. Some are far–reaching while others may be trivial and
inconsequential. However, we all know that human beings are irrational, our preferences often
deviate from rationality in the standard economics. We often make the wrong decision and it may
bring unfavourable consequences along with negative side effects. There are countless reasons for
making irrational decisions. One of the most astonishing arguments I recently discovered is that
people feel the pain of loss more acutely than they feel the pleasure of gain. Why this happened ?
For instance, when we buy a sofa from IKEA, they often provide a 30 days money–back guarantee.
However, even if we noticed that the sofa has imperfections, we seldom go back and return. Why ?
It is because we consider returning the sofa as a loss. A

Risk Of Loss From Insurance Companies Essay
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
In life, losses are sometimes unavoidable. People may become ill and lose income or savings to pay
off medical bills. Individuals or their relatives may die of illness or accidents. People's homes or
other property may suffer damage or theft. All these activities in the environment of man are subject
to the risk of loss from unforeseen events. To lessen this burden on humans, insurance companies
are formed and existed for decades with a common goal of pooling related risks and offering a
cushion to the unforeseen circumstances. To expand the coverage of life insurance products, life
insurance companies have recently begun offering complex policies with embedded options. Among
them is the participating policies with interest rate guarantees and surrender options. Bacinello
(2001), defined participating policy as a contract in which the policyholder is entitled to a share of
the excess profit if the realized interest rate during the insurance period is above the assumed
interest rate. The policy mechanism enables the insured to receive dividends (bonuses) in addition to
the assured payments implied by the guaranteed interest rate. Owing to the existence of the interest
rate guarantee, the policy has some features that resembles the European call options. This property
is included in most real–life life insurance contracts in Ghana. There are numerous ways in which
this profit–sharing is realized. The usual approach is to

Financial Statement Of The University Of Virginia
The financial statement of the University of Virginia divides the pension plan into diverse
categories. The categories are made up of the retirement plans, the Supplemented Retirement
Income plans, and the deferred compensation plans. The Employees of the University are considered
to be employees of the commonwealth. Considerably, the entire stable full–time ordered salaried
workers participate in a definite pension plan managed by the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).
Data regarding the plan are always availed at the statewide stage solely in the Commonwealth of

University, has the full duty of contributing to the plan.
Significantly, the entire full–time faculty, particular managing staff, and the health care personnel
involve themselves in the Faculty Discretional Retirement Plans. These are set–contribution
strategies in which the retirement gains got are linked to the employer and employee aids (of which
most of them are paid by the University), and the dividends and interest. Personal contracts provided
the strategies for full–time faculty and given managing personnel provide for complete and instant

The Life Insurance Industry
Modern man tries to protect himself and his possessions against many risks like illness, accidents,
death, theft and liabilities. These interests can be protected in various ways:
(a) He can take preventative measures to limit loss such as wearing a safety belt while driving a
vehicle or installing smoke detectors in a factory; or
(b) He can save money and with time build up a private fund; or
(c) Co–operate with other legal subjects to collectively cover losses that have been incurred.
However, in the above three scenarios, protective measures are not adequate protection. The solution
to these problems is found in a formal insurance. Insurance regulation is a dynamic, ever–evolving
to achieve an appropriate balance between providing adequate consumer protection and allowing
them to gain maximum returns. Given that insurers and the products being offered change over time,
it is vital for the regulatory framework to keep pace with dynamics of the Life Insurance Industry.
This study explores areas where the life insurance industry has changed over time through different
product offerings, globalization, evolving technology, and changes in the economic environment of
Discovery Vitality Life. The study provides a framework to assist regulators in assessing which
changes have been successful, which need improvement, and what needs to be addressed in the
future.

By using Big Data, companies can take the past accidents and experiences that have occurred and
build a "model" to help predict what might likely happen in the future. These "models" that help
predict the future are built from the relationships between variables from the collected data. There
are many uses for the Big Data, but one very important use is for insurance premiums. Tying back to
efficiency, which is the most important vocabulary word of insurance, to be able to cover their risks
and make a profit at the same time companies must set their premium prices at the appropriate level;
exactly where the Big Data comes into play. It is even working its way into health and life insurance
with the establishment of the Apple Watch and Fitbit, because consumers can monitor and record

The Pay Gap Between Women And Men
Keith Holmes Capstone Ms. Eason/Ms. Allen February 21, 2016 The Pay Gap between Women and
Men Imagine you are a women who works hard and does the same job as some of the men, now
imagine you all are explaining your paycheck and you see you that your check is less than theirs.
Although women work the same jobs as men they are not being treated like it. We live in an age
where women are not financially equal to the men work the same jobs. Because of this there are
struggling single mothers, and the mistreatment of hard working women. Over the years as the
amount of women working in businesses rises so does the level of inequality. As women, they do
not want to be counted shorter than a man who does the same work, to be sure they get the equal pay
they deserve we need to pass laws that grant companies to pay genders equally, strengthen the
protections guaranteed by the equal pay act of 1963, and pass paid sick days legislation. First we
need to identify why women are not being paid equally. Some will say that the reason women are
not being paid equally is because they take sick days off because of pregnancy. The fact that
companies do not consider pregnancy a disability is the reason during that time it is considered an
unpaid sick day. Studies show that 39% of mothers say they stayed home or taken mothers say they
have taken a lot of time from work and 42 5 of mothers reduced their hours. A quarter of women say
that quit their jobs in all for family responsibilities.

Medical Examination : Premature Claim Essay
Premature claim
It is a premature claim if the death has occurred within two years from the commencement of the
policy or the date of last revival, or medical examination. The insurer takes certain precautions
before making payment under such a premature claim.
It wants to satisfy itself that it is a genuine case i.e., the correct policyholder has died and that the
cause of death does not go back to a date prior to the commencement of the policy. The duration of
last illness is of vital importance to eliminate any fraudulent intention. Last medical attendants'
certificate, hospital report, burial certificate, employees' leave record, if he was an employee in a
reputed firm etc, are the different records examined and normally a senior officer is deputed by the
insurer to make on the spot investigation, through neighbours, colleagues or doctor of the locality.
As the revival of the policy is a de novo contract of insurance, the insurer would like to verify
whether the statement contained in the declaration of good health given at the time of revival is
correct. If such a statement is proved fraudulent relating to a material fact, the claim, may be
rejected. Life insurance is a contract of utmost good faith and good faith has to be observed, not
only at the time of the proposal, but also at the time of the revival of the policy whenever it is done.
In case there is a rival claimant to the insurance money, the insurer can get a valid discharge by
paying to the nominee. The

Growing up I was the first generation of girls to have women role models in sports. For the first time
I could watch a person of the same sex compete and succeed. In 1986 I was able to watch the US
Women's Soccer National Team take home the first gold metal in the sport of soccer. I watched these
women that had a dream to play and they made their respective dreams come true. In Mia Hamm's
book she talked about how the game of soccer to her was ultimate release and passion for her. Her
father allowed her to play with the boys and thought that this competitive spirit that his daughter
possessed was harmless and healthy (Mia 45). Little did he know that his daughter would start a

A veteran of the United States Civil War and a pharmaceutical chemist by trade, Lilly set out to start a company with three underlying goals. First manufacture high quality pharmaceutical products, second medications would be dispensed by medical staff rather than through a mobile tradeshows which was popular at the time, and finally, Lilly's medication would be developed using current science data. In 1886, Lilly went on to hire a pharmaceutical chemist which led to Lilly's esteemed research and development history that they are known for to this very day (Lilly, 2015). In fact, some of the greatest advances in medication can be traced back to Lilly. Lilly's research and development for insulin dates back to 1923 and continues to this day (Lilly, 2015). Lilly also had a hand in mass producing Penicillin and the Polio Vaccine. According to the Eli Lilly & Company Annual Report (2015), over 50% of the vaccine used to eradicate polio was Eli Lilly labeled. Through research and development, Lilly's storied past continued with the development of some of the most popular drugs to treat depression (Prozac), diabetes (Humulin), oral antibiotic (Ceclor), schizophrenia (Zypexa), postmenopausal osteoporosis (Evista), and male erectile dysfunction (Cialis) just to name a few. • 6. The Hurt Locker, Directed by Kathryn Bigelow Essay As most of you know by now the movie The Hurt Locker won the Oscar for movie of the year, and this makes me very angry. My civilian friends keep asking me why I'm so mad, because most of them enjoyed watching it. Simply put it's because the movie is full of lies, exaggerations, and ugly people. 'But it's a movie' they say, 'of course it's not realistic'. That's strange.. because the back of The Hurt Locker box says 'Powerfully Realistic'. Yet this movie is about as far from realism that a movie can be (this claim includes all movies about time travel, and vampires, but excludes any movies starring the Wayans brothers). Don't get me wrong here– I'm not a stickler for all military realism. The military uniforms in the Transformers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So if Magneto is SO powerful why didn't he just rip up the foundations of the prison and take it to his evil hideout instead of relocating a bridge for an obviously suicidal frontal assault? Fantasmical stupidity at its finest– and that is why X–Men 3 will never live up to its predecessors. When I first thought about writing this blog entry I considered writing a list of all the mistakes the movie makes, but my list became way too long and boring. Instead I decided to describe just how outlandish The Hurt Locker is by writing my own movie script, but this one is the medical equivalent, I call this version The Hurt Locker: McDoogie Returns with a Vengeance Scene 1: Time: It's Go Time! Place: Decatur Memorial Hospital Doctor McDoogie: Alright nurse what do we got? Nurse 1: His heart was removed by a medicine man while his body was put into a pit of burning lava. It doesn't look good. McDoogie: I don't like your attitude nurse. Now get me a juice box. Nurse 1: Yes doctor. But wouldn't you like to put on your gloves first before you start operating? McDoogie: If this guy is going to die I might as well be comfortable while I'm working on him. Nurse 2: Doctor what meds should we give him. McDoogie: Do what you think is

  • 9. Janet 's Case For Life Insurance Janet applied for life insurance on February 10, 2003. The amount her policy would pay out upon her death would be $250,000. On September 1, 2005 Janet was sadly murdered which caused the life insurance company to pay out the beneficiary who in our case is Janet's husband, Craig. Although the contract should have been paid out in full upon Janet's death, the insurance company is refusing to pay out the policy. When Janet applied for life insurance in 2003 she when through an extensive application form which is typical for all life insurance contracts. On this form she was asked about her health specifically if she had been operated on or been hospitalized in the last ten years. Along with that and many other things Janet was asked if she had any lung disorders. She replied to both of these questions with no when in fact she had been in the hospital several times in the last ten years and had a lung disorder. She suffers from recurrent chest pains and abdominal pains. She has also been diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. For these two reason and more the life insurance company is refusing to payout the policy to Craig. A normal case of life insurance is paid out upon the death of the person insured but in this circumstance the payment is being withheld. The main legal issue in this case is can the life insurance company withhold payment of the insured amount. On that another hand does Craig, the beneficiary of the life insurance, have the right to receive or to be owed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Analysis Of The Article ' Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act In the article "Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act," the National Women's Law Center states, on average, women earn 78 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn. Of these women, African American women earn 64 cents, while Latin American women earn a mere 55 cents. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act became one of the many stepping stones in achieving equal pay. Women must continue to make people aware of the discrimination they faced in the workplace on a daily basis. Wage discrimination is embedded in our legal system. The ongoing battle for equal pay for women dates back to the Civil War. Throughout history, men seemed as the ideal–type of employers. Men were primary the breadwinners, and women who worked at the time only pinch in money oppose to having a stable salary equivalent to their male counterparts. The job roles such as nurses, teacher, and retail sales clerk became a "traditional female" occupations. In "Here's the History of the Battle for Equal Pay for American Women," Charlotte Alter points out a letter sent to the editor of the New York Times on February 1869. In this letter, the writer questioned why female government officials did not have similar pay to their male colleagues: 'Very few persons deny the justice of the principle that equal work should command equal pay without regard to the sex of the laborer.' Even in the late 19th century in which men had far more opportunities than women, people question the inequality in regards of the workplace. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advantages Of Unit Linked Insurance Plans Chapter V Summary of Finding and Conclusion 5.1 Introduction A unit–linked insurance plan is a multi–featured product which combines the benefits of insurance, risk sharing and investment. The investment in a unit linked insurance plan works like a mutual fund and does not come with guaranteed returns, unlike money back, whole–life or endowment policies. Hence a unit linked insurance plan combines the features of investment and life protection. It enables the life insured to secure protection for their family in the event of untimely death and simultaneously provides the life insured, an opportunity to earn a return on the premium paid towards the policy. Financial Statements Of American Heart Association The financial statements of American Heart Association convey valuable information to outside users about the organization and how it utilizes financial resources. The objective of this essay is to identify five things that can be learned about an organization from their financial statements. The first thing that can be learned about every nonprofit comes from reviewing the Statement of Activities and the following Statement of Functional Expenses. These statements describe a broad categorization of the different program related services provided and the supporting services needed to run those programs. Expenses related to these programs are defined as those directly relating to the organization's mission or purpose. For AHA, their programs include research, public health education, professional education and training, and community services. Supporting services are those that do not directly relate to the mission or purpose of the organization, and therefore can be further split into services required to generate future contributions and services to run the administrative side of the organization. The Statement of Functional Expenses provides a breakdown of natural expenses (salaries, rent, professional fees, etc.) by the different program and supporting services. This allows the user to see a breakdown of the salaries expense number by program, fundraising, and administrative staff. A common tool for comparing and evaluating nonprofits is to compare program expenses to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Deregulation Of The Insurance Industry Essay INTRODUCTION Life insurance is a form of insurance that pays monetary proceeds upon the death of the insured covered in the policy. Essentially, a life insurance policy is a contract between the named insured and the insurance company wherein the insurance company agrees to pay an agreed sum of money to the insured 's beneficiary. With a large population and the untapped market area insurance happens to be a very big opportunity in India. Today it stands as a business growing at the rate of 15–20% annually. Together with banking services, it adds about 7 percent to the country's GDP. In spite of all this, the growth statistics of the penetration of the insurance in the country is very poor. Nearly 80% of Indian population is without life and health insurance cover. This is an indicator that growth potential for the insurance sector is immense in India. It was due to this immense growth that the regulations were introduced in the insurance sector and in continuation "Malhotra Committee" was constituted by the government in 1993 to examine the various aspects of the industry. The key element of the reform process was participation of overseas insurance companies with 26% capital. Creating a more competitive financial system suitable for the requirements of the economy was the main idea behind this reform. CLASSIFICATION OF INSURANCE The insurance industry in India can broadly classified in two parts. They are. 1) Life insurance. 2) Non–life (general) insurance. LIFE ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women´s Right Movement: Gender Inequality "No Society treats its women as well as its men" is a quote from the United Nations Development Program when they were asked about the issue of gender inequality, which was featured in the Chicago Tribune News. Fifty years earlier, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which specified that everyone, regardless of gender, was entitled to the same rights and freedoms (The Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Fifty years later though, countries are still falling short of achieving the goal of gender equality. Women also face discrimination because they are often penalized for having children. Women must face outdated ideas of what a woman can accomplish if she's pregnant or already has children. The jobs that are considered traditional for women and are more understanding about women being mothers, are usually the lowest–paying jobs. Another negative effect of gender inequality is the increased fear of violence for women. Women are often portrayed as weak and helpless beings that can easily be taken advantage of. United Nations Secretary–General Ban Ki– moon states that, "Violence against women and girls continues unabated in every continent, country and culture. It takes a devastating toll on women's lives, on their families and on society as a whole. Most societies prohibit such violence –yet the reality is that too often, it is covered up or tacitly condoned" (Unite to End Violence Againist Women, 2006). Violence against women in the form of rape, spousal abuse, child abuse or spousal killing has become routine behavior over the years, so it rarely even makes the news anymore. "Women aged 15–44 are more at risk from rape and domestic violence than from cancer, motor accidents, war and malaria, according to World Bank data"( Unite to End Violence Againist Women, 2006). Under this act, the charitable organizations were allowed to spend the appreciation difference from an endowment fund over the fund's "historic dollar value" to the extent the organization deems it to be prudent. The historical value comprises of all the aggregate value of contributions to an endowment fund at the time they were originally made. Since the firms struggled in meeting their expenses when the spending activities from the underwater endowment funds were required to be ceased or limited, there felt a need for the change in the policies and act to address these issues. On xxxx, a new law was enacted to manage this issue. The Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) was more liberal and provided greater flexibility in terms of spending from the underwater endowment funds. This revised statute, was enacted and adopted by majority of the states and many organizations expressed their interest in rapid convergence to the new law as unlike its predecessor the underwater endowment funds under this act could be still used for spending. The UMIFA and UPMIFA both define the term "endowment fund" as a fund that is restricted by the donor so that it is not "wholly expendable by the organization on a current basis." Essay on Eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent agency of the federal government specifically designed to support and enhances the art community for minority groups. The NEA was founded in 1965 and has controlled the art community ever since. This has aided in censoring works of supposedly obscene and controversial art. The elimination of the NEA, or making it a private organization, would free much needed public tax dollars to go to more important parts of the nations budgets, as well as open the art communities up for the freedom to exhibit the controversial pieces of art work the NEA deems inappropriate. Congress created The National Endowment for the Arts in response to the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965 states that it is up to the Federal Government to assist the local, state, regional and private agencies and artist in developing arts in the communities in several different ways. Lastly, the Act states that it is to fulfill an educational mission and make widely available the greatest achievements of art "National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965"). What the NEA set out to do and what it does are two different things. The NEA is first and foremost set up as a nonpartisan branch of the government; however, throughout the past decade, the NEA has been found in the pockets of many partisan politicians. An independent agency of the government is supposedly not controlled by Democratic or Republic parties. In the past decade proof of political control and gain has been proven to regulate the NEA. The parties use the NEA to gain political standing in the races, and "[t]hey have been eager to promote government involvement in setting the arts agenda–especially in creating art that promotes the... administration" (Keane 2). A brief explanation as to the growth of life insurance business in Bangladesh is in order here. Bangladesh declared independence from the Pakistani rules on March 26, 1971 following which she had to witness a bloody liberation struggle with the occupation forces lasting for 9 months before they were defeated. Insurance business which was exclusively carried on in private sector before independence was nationalized after liberation in 1972 primarily to address the emerging situation of eroding public confidence in the industry that was left staggeringly short of resources in the face of huge losses caused by the war of liberation. Will there always be a double standard that women are primarily made to be homemakers? Do we give up the fight to expect equal compensations? Will the new millennium women totally put this inequity to rest? My paper will seek why the disparities and what the future holds. International firms invest myriad of money to understand their customers, in order to satisfy the need and wants of customers. For example, IKEA, the world's leading home furnishing company, spent a total of £30 million in 2012. It aims to improve the shopping experience for customers, including the bedroom showroom redesign. It is crystal clear that consumer behaviour plays a vital part in the success or failure of a product. Meanwhile, consumer behaviour is a process which consumers go through when they make purchases and it involves numerous factors that influence their decisions. As a consumer, we make decisions every day. Some are far–reaching while others may be trivial and inconsequential. However, we all know that human beings are irrational, our preferences often deviate from rationality in the standard economics. We often make the wrong decision and it may bring unfavourable consequences along with negative side effects. There are countless reasons for making irrational decisions. One of the most astonishing arguments I recently discovered is that people feel the pain of loss more acutely than they feel the pleasure of gain. Why this happened ? For instance, when we buy a sofa from IKEA, they often provide a 30 days money–back guarantee. However, even if we noticed that the sofa has imperfections, we seldom go back and return. Why ? It is because we consider returning the sofa as a loss. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Risk Of Loss From Insurance Companies Essay CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the study In life, losses are sometimes unavoidable. People may become ill and lose income or savings to pay off medical bills. Individuals or their relatives may die of illness or accidents. People's homes or other property may suffer damage or theft. All these activities in the environment of man are subject to the risk of loss from unforeseen events. To lessen this burden on humans, insurance companies are formed and existed for decades with a common goal of pooling related risks and offering a cushion to the unforeseen circumstances. To expand the coverage of life insurance products, life insurance companies have recently begun offering complex policies with embedded options. Among them is the participating policies with interest rate guarantees and surrender options. Bacinello (2001), defined participating policy as a contract in which the policyholder is entitled to a share of the excess profit if the realized interest rate during the insurance period is above the assumed interest rate. The policy mechanism enables the insured to receive dividends (bonuses) in addition to the assured payments implied by the guaranteed interest rate. Owing to the existence of the interest rate guarantee, the policy has some features that resembles the European call options. This property is included in most real–life life insurance contracts in Ghana. There are numerous ways in which this profit–sharing is realized. The usual approach is to ... "How do you know about that, honey?" Voice gentle, but on the edge, Lianne reclaimed shattered thoughts of things she didn't even want to say out–loud, let alone to her precious daughter." You shouldn't... you were never supposed to be involved in any of this..." Lianne reached across the table for her drink, but Logan withheld it, and instead, held it out to the bus boy who dumped it into his tray and took the empty glass. "Involved in what, Mom? Mom, just tell me what all of this is about," Feeling small again, Veronica wasn't wired to regret things, to think of her decisions as mistakes, but looking at her mother.. At their situation, and reevaluating her expectations, felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. The Pay Gap Between Women And Men Keith Holmes Capstone Ms. Eason/Ms. Allen February 21, 2016 The Pay Gap between Women and Men Imagine you are a women who works hard and does the same job as some of the men, now imagine you all are explaining your paycheck and you see you that your check is less than theirs. Although women work the same jobs as men they are not being treated like it. We live in an age where women are not financially equal to the men work the same jobs. Because of this there are struggling single mothers, and the mistreatment of hard working women. Over the years as the amount of women working in businesses rises so does the level of inequality. As women, they do not want to be counted shorter than a man who does the same work, to be sure they get the equal pay they deserve we need to pass laws that grant companies to pay genders equally, strengthen the protections guaranteed by the equal pay act of 1963, and pass paid sick days legislation. First we need to identify why women are not being paid equally. Some will say that the reason women are not being paid equally is because they take sick days off because of pregnancy. The fact that companies do not consider pregnancy a disability is the reason during that time it is considered an unpaid sick day. Studies show that 39% of mothers say they stayed home or taken mothers say they have taken a lot of time from work and 42 5 of mothers reduced their hours. A quarter of women say that quit their jobs in all for family responsibilities. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Assignment Land trusts, also known as conservancies, are not–for–profit organizations dedicated to protecting wildlife habitat and natural lands by acquiring ownership rights and transfer of development rights (conservation easements) either thru donation or purchase. This series of Term Projects follows a small land trust through the process of budgeting. Term Project I requires students to develop and analyze an annual line–item budget and translate that budget, and additional information, into a quarterly cash budget. Term Project II requires students to convert the line–item budget into a functional budget. Further information is employed by students to create a flexible budget. Some technical functions, such as legal review of conservation easements, annual audit, and some routine accounting are contracted out. Members of the BOD, and other volunteers, continue to help with membership, fundraising, stewardship, and new project evaluation. The BOD is extremely concerned that the CWC be managed so that it is sustainable. The commitments of land trusts are, by their very nature, long–term (actually perpetual). Therefore, the CWC must ensure that their business plan and budget will ensure their long–term survival. The Current Situation The Executive Director is formulating an Operating Budget recommendation for the next year. He has made a series of assumptions based on previous year performance and expectations about the coming year. He is particularly concerned about increased energy costs and a likely recession that may hold down contributions and foundation support. The CWC wants to budget for a 5% (of total expense) surplus to provide protection against unforeseen events. Your role is to prepare the budget for the following (next) year based on the assumptions adopted by the Executive Director and the budget for the current year. You will also be asked to analyze the results of those budget assumptions. Assumptions for NEXT budget year: Revenue: Special events will increase by 20% due to a new event. Contributions will increase by 10% due to new membership drives. Grants will fall by 20% due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Medical Examination : Premature Claim Essay Premature claim It is a premature claim if the death has occurred within two years from the commencement of the policy or the date of last revival, or medical examination. The insurer takes certain precautions before making payment under such a premature claim. It wants to satisfy itself that it is a genuine case i.e., the correct policyholder has died and that the cause of death does not go back to a date prior to the commencement of the policy. The duration of last illness is of vital importance to eliminate any fraudulent intention. Last medical attendants' certificate, hospital report, burial certificate, employees' leave record, if he was an employee in a reputed firm etc, are the different records examined and normally a senior officer is deputed by the insurer to make on the spot investigation, through neighbours, colleagues or doctor of the locality. As the revival of the policy is a de novo contract of insurance, the insurer would like to verify whether the statement contained in the declaration of good health given at the time of revival is correct. If such a statement is proved fraudulent relating to a material fact, the claim, may be rejected. Life insurance is a contract of utmost good faith and good faith has to be observed, not only at the time of the proposal, but also at the time of the revival of the policy whenever it is done. In case there is a rival claimant to the insurance money, the insurer can get a valid discharge by paying to the nominee. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Women’s New Role Essay Women's New Role In coming to understand what it meant to be a girl I was affected by my era, women's sports, and the place that I was raised, as much as the independent feminist spirit that my mom was exposed to and possessed. My mother's mom raised her to believe and accept the traditional female role. My grandmother put emphasis on the women staying home and existing solely as a support system for the man. She found comfort and security knowing that it was the man's burden to "bring home the bacon." My mother, however; was influenced by the time and took it upon herself to take care of herself and make her own money. At a young age she along with many other women of her time wanted to rebel against the expected role and thus have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these independent values and the new women role models I had in sports, I learned to be confident in the choices that I made and that I could make something with my life with my athletic endeavors. Growing up I was the first generation of girls to have women role models in sports. For the first time I could watch a person of the same sex compete and succeed. In 1986 I was able to watch the US Women's Soccer National Team take home the first gold metal in the sport of soccer. I watched these women that had a dream to play and they made their respective dreams come true. In Mia Hamm's book she talked about how the game of soccer to her was ultimate release and passion for her. Her father allowed her to play with the boys and thought that this competitive spirit that his daughter possessed was harmless and healthy (Mia 45). Little did he know that his daughter would start a revolution that no man saw coming. These "tom boys" who thought that they were the only girls playing sports opened up a whole new field of work, and broke through one of the toughest gender stereotypes known to woman. Success in women's soccer, and even the development of the professional league, along with new opportunities that arose with title 9,in which colleges were forced to produce an equal number of scholarships for women have contributed to my committed efforts to succeed and play at the highest level. Although, today I can see the result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. The Lilly Kane Murder Trial Interest She waits for Saturday before she stalks Aaron Echolls again. Digging up his credit history, fine, she could do that between classes. Phone logs were a little sketchier, apparently Mr. Echolls had up to three cell phones, she would have to talk to Logan about that. And internet info... She was put off enough by the number of times people in that house Google–d themselves, she didn't have time to stomach the porn. The Lilly Kane murder trial interest was morbid, but she figured she could relate. Going back months, there were searches about Lilly. She might talk to Logan about that, too. Her eyes spot two wine glasses that tell him he probably had company this morning or was expecting company later, and she tucks that into her memory. "Can I use your bathroom?" She interrupts cheerily, and he obliges, even as she's calling him stupid in her head. His trailer bathroom has a stash of barely–concealed pill bottles she snaps pictures of with the water running, and the showers wet, which could mean nothing at all. She catches her own eyes in the bathroom mirror, noticing her eyebrows are getting a little wild–child, and thinks about how Lilly would've teased her into tweezing, and just smoothes them. When she's sure she has everything Aaron's willing to give her, she excuses herself out, getting his phone number for any follow ups.
