Southwest Airlines Case Study
Southwest Airlines (SWA) as described in the above section was an impressive organization with a
long history of success; however, SWA's performance had slipped over time as the company had not
earned a "Triple Crown" since 1996. The case study, "Southwest Airlines in Baltimore," offered a
detailed look at the Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) in an effort to analyze
challenges facing SWA in maintaining their core strategies and their continued dominance of the
airline industry. BWI played an important role in the SWA system as it was one of SWA's eight
"mega–stations", categorized because it offered more than 100 flight departures per day. It was also
the central hub for SWA on the East Coast and had seen an explosion of growth in both total
passengers and percentage of those passengers connecting through BWI in the past few years. BWI's
operational performance consistently lagged SWA's system–wide average, continued to deteriorate,
and with continued growth planned was a major concern throughout the organization. With the
planned growth projected by management, BWI's gates would reach capacity limits later in 2001
and BWI's bag sorting area had already reached its capacity (Oliva & Gittell, 2002). BWI was
planning to renovate Concourses A and B to provide more gates for SWA; however, SWA also took
action and assigned Matt Hafner, a seasoned station manager, to attempt to elevate the operational
performance of BWI. Our group was tasked with analyzing

The Importance Of Ebola Prevention And Preparedness
The Importance of Ebola Prevention and Preparedness in Hospitals and other Public Facilities Ebola
has taken the lives of many in Africa and has made its journey to America. With America's new fear
of such a life threatening disease, hospitals, doctors', and the Center for Disease Control, are taking
special precautions to prevent further spread. This paper focuses on hospital preparedness and other
precautions, including, decontamination and hospital safety. With hospitals being at the epicenter of
disease control, it is important to know what they are doing to help prevent further spread. This
paper will also touch upon travel bans and Ebola screening in airports that have been taken into
effect. Having new protocols will help prevent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are trained on how to put on the gowning materials in such a way that will provide protections
when helping Ebola patients. Additionally, monitoring of the gowning techniques has been done to
ensure that the health care workers gown and de–gown properly. This will make certain that they do
not infect themselves in the process with inappropriate or unsafe techniques. Re–training has
occurred in situations in which transmission has occurred (Fernandez, A1). Hospital preparedness is
very important because Ebola is such a contagious illness and can easily be spread from a health
care worker who is caring for a patient suffering from Ebola. Following the infection of a health
care worker, there are now discussions and considerations being made surrounding the use of
biocontainment units for Ebola treatment (Grady A.1). Biocontainment units are facilities that have
the equipment and procedures that enable the isolation of patients with dangerous infectious
diseases; there are four of these hospitals around the country (GradyA.1). This would provide
isolation not only for infected patients but for infected health care workers as well. To prevent such
occurances, hospitals hire special disposal companies to dispose of the infected materials. One
hospital was faced with unexpected issues regarding waste disposal and sample transportation. "The
company that hauled medical trash to the

United Airlines Strengths And Weaknesses
As one of the largest, publically held companies in the county, it's not surprising that United Airlines
has some impressive statistics to its name. The Chicago–based airline employs over 87,000 people,
operates routes to 360 destinations worldwide, and reported a net profit of $571 million in 2013
(UAL Corporation SWOT Analysis, 2014). While the company has struggled financially in recent
years, they've been able recover by capitalizing on their size and reputation. In this paper we'll
examine the history of the airline and look into the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
that will impact their future.

CSI And Law Trip Essay
Washington CSI and Law Trip Revised Draft There are few trips in life that will be remembered for
a lifetime. One of those trips was a trip to Washington, DC, the purpose of which was to teach about
CSI and law. The first thing I noticed about the trip was that it was held in a resort that was an
almost perfect replica of the White House located in Chantilly, Virginia. Likewise, the sights seen on
the trip were the most spectacular I had ever seen. From just arriving at the airport, to staying in a
marvelous hotel and university, learning many different things from speakers, seeing many different
important landmarks, and socializing with friends, the trip was certainly unrivaled. I began my trip
in the summer of 2015. The excitement was immense considering that I was about to embark on one
of the most influential trips of my life. I had begun packing my suitcase the day before the trip to
make sure that I did not leave anything behind. Packing for the trip was quite long due to packing a
substantial amount of clothes and other necessary items. After all, I was having to pack for a week
and a half long trip. This task is often quite long and tedious, but it is often satisfying once it is over

with going to the airport because it means one must leave their friends and family behind in order to

soon as I arrived, I raced to the terminal, said goodbye to my family and took the flight to Dulles

the first time in my life that was flying solo. Although it was kind of an eerie thought, I learned to

The Importance Of Life In My Life
Crouched under a mango tree trying to find shade from the scorching sun as sweat drips from my
head to my feet, sizzling as it hits the ground. The temperature rises day by day in the summer I pray
for rain to fall, looking at the stray animals on the streets in thirst for water. I stare off into the
distance of barren acres of land, touching the dry, cracked soil and seeing lifeless crops die due to
the boiling heat that I needed to take care of. As a boy living in the rural areas of India in a middle–
class family, everyone in the village was taught at a young age to start working. Even though, I was
the third child out of my four sibling it didn't stop my parents from making me work out in the
fields. It was tough having to do manual labor like doing field work to feeding and taking care of the
animals every day. As the roosters crow I wake up immediately and lay out my school uniform and
shower, I comb my hair slicked back, put on my shoes and run off to school with my friends. I
stopped going to school until the 10th grade because back in the day my parents wouldn't care that
much about education like today. It was more about harvesting corn in the summer to plant seeds in
the winter. When I was around 20 years old my two older siblings got married and my family
decided it was my turn. But my father tried to help me do something in life first and not sit at home
and drink or smoke so he opened a pharmacy, but that didn't work out so long due to my obsession
with alcohol and just being lazy which stopped the business from lasting and I continued to do
nothing.
Meanwhile in 1990s, my father who was assigned to come and work in the United States. My father
brought my older brother and I to live in Virginia and we stayed living there for many years. It was
my first time stepping on American soil I was intrigued on how technology was used everywhere.
But it was tough for me to transition to the American lifestyle, not knowing much of the culture,
foods, currency, and language I didn't know where to start. When I was around 22 years old I
wanted to bring back my interest in the medical field so I applied to the University of the District of
Columbia and got accepted! I started studying at the university for 4–5

British Airways: Largest Airline in the UK
British Airways (BA) is the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, based in Waterside, near its
main hub at London Heathrow Airport. It is the largest airline in the UK based on fleet size,
international flights and international destinations and second largest measured by passengers
carried, behind easyJet.
The British Airways Board was established in 1971 to control the two nationalised airline
corporations, BOAC and BEA, and two smaller, regional airlines, Cambrian Airways, from Cardiff,
and Northeast Airlines, from Newcastle upon Tyne. On 31 March 1974, all four companies were
merged to form British Airways. After almost 13 years as a state company, that was sold in February
1987 as part of a privatisation plan by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1981, the airline was instructed to prepare for privatisation by the Conservative government. Sir
John King, later Lord King, was appointed Chairman, charged with bringing the airline back into
profitability. King was credited with transforming the loss–making giant into one of the most
profitable air carriers in the world, while many other large airlines struggled.[9] The flag carrier was
privatised and was floated on the London Stock Exchange in February 1987.[10] In July 1987,
British Airways effected the takeover of Britain 's "second" airline, British Caledonian.[11]
The formation of Richard Branson 's Virgin Atlantic Airways in 1984 created a strong competitor for
BA. In 1993, the intense rivalry between British Airways and Virgin Atlantic culminated in the
former being sued for libel arising from claims and counter claims over a "dirty tricks" campaign by
BA against Virgin. British Airways ' campaign against Virgin included poaching Virgin Atlantic
customers, tampering with private files belonging to Virgin and PR undermining the reputation in
the City. Following a libel case, British Airways agreed to pay £110,000 damages to Virgin (and
£500,000 to Branson) and £3 million legal costs causing BA management to apologise
"unreservedly" for the alleged "dirty tricks" campaign. An action filed in the US in 1993 by Virgin
against BA over domination of the trans–Atlantic routes was

Diversity Is Considered A Defining Strength For The Workforce
Diversity is considered a defining strength for the workforce and an essential element in
accomplishing the various missions that reflects the nations or community that we serve. Ensuring a
diverse and inclusive workforce enables the department or agency to be more responsive to the
public it serves and offers every individual an equal chance to attain his or her professional goals. A
diverse workforce contributes fresh ideas and offers unique perspective which is vital in achieving
the desired success. Diversity is not limited to race, gender, or ethnicity. A diverse group includes
people of different religions, sexual orientation, ages, work experience, cultures, physical abilities,
military experience, and educational background (Security, 2015). Although those differences are a
source of benefits, they can also be very hard in the work settings and there are two reasons behind
that. First, the difficulty to deal with all the different kinds of people without having a
misunderstanding that arise between the supervisor and the employees. Second, problems that arise
must be mediated or arbitrated by the supervisor. It can be hard for supervisors to recognize the
needs of individuals from other backgrounds and to know how to persuade those individuals to do
well. Even if that does not happen, they may simply misunderstand one another and those
misunderstandings may lead to conflict. In these ways, a diverse workplace can lead to difficulties
for supervisors.

There was no survivors on any of the four planes that were hijacked. Many people died in the
buildings as well, and some people trying to escape the attacks did not make it. There were 1,102
victims that were identified by a New York medical examiner, but there were 1,616 victims who
were not found nor identified and their families were given death certificates. The estimated total of
deaths including every passenger aboard the four planes is 2,823. There were people who were
rescued and tragically people who had no way out and did the first thing they could think of, which
was to jump to their death. In order to try to save themselves from the excruciating heat coming
from the fires that erupted from the plane crashes, people would jump from the buildings and fall to
their death. The fall was estimated to last about ten seconds and would fall at a rapid speed of 125
mph. If the body was to fall in a position where someone fell down with their body straight as if
they were diving, the speed of the body falling down could increase to a speed of up to 200 mph.
There were around 200 jumpers who decided to die this way. While all of this was happening, there

The Creation of the Transportation Security Administration In November 2001, when the Aviation
and Transportation Security Act was passed by Congress a new agency, Transportation Security
Administration, was created as a result. This new administration was responsible for protecting
American transportation from any other future terrorist attacks. From 2001–2003 the TSA was part
of the Department of Transportation, but in 2003 it was placed under the new Department of
Homeland Security (Gale, 2015). TSA's main focus is on air travel, it employs nearly 45,000
employees working as passenger screeners in over 400 airports across America. As well as x–ray
screenings of luggage and metal detector screenings for passengers, TSA is allowed to preform "pat

Airfield Facilities We have now taken a look at the process used to appoint the Board of Directors,
and sources of income. After that is all said and done it is time to take a look at the beating heart of
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport which includes the airfield, runways, taxiways, and
aprons, and all other facilities involved in operating an airport. This particular airport sits on 860
acres of total land. Taking a closer look 733 acres are on solid ground while 127 acres reside under
water. The airport has 44 gates, nine of which are located in Terminal A. The remaining 35 are in

DCA was considered the "last word" in airports upon initial construction. It combined the latest and
greatest aspects of technology, facility design, handling of planes, air traffic and field traffic control,
lighting, non–flight related facilities, and surface vehicle control available.
Terminal A opened in 1941 along with the airport. The airport facility was originally 115,000 square
feet. This changed in 1950 when the first major expansion was completed. They extended the south
end of the main terminal by 297 feet, adding 25,110 square feet of total space. As the airport traffic
started to grow, they saw a need to expand even further. The next addition is referred to as the "south
finger" was added about five years later. The "south finger" increased the terminal by an additional
9,979 square feet and additionally provided aircraft gates and loading positions that were
desperately needed. Growth in the annual number of passengers continued steadily eventually
prompting the construction of the North Terminal. The North Terminal was opened in October of
1958 adding an additional 7,264 square feet. Moving forward they opened a 772 foot long enclosed
passageway between the main and north terminals. Terminal B/C was the next major expansion

The Problematic Use of Full-Body Scanners and Other...
Introduction Airport security screens passengers in certain designated areas of the airport. These
areas are dubbed as "sterile" or "secure" areas. Sometimes the area is also known as airside.
Passengers are screened in to these areas for a reason. These areas are where the exit gates are
found. We speak not of the exit gates of the airport but of the aircraft. The result is that if passengers
are exiting form a domestic flight they will not have to be screened through security again. Searches
can be conducted at any time but usually they are not, at least not without due cause for suspicion.
Another interesting thing is that food outlets at airports have begun to use plastic utensils instead of
glass utensils. The point of this venture is to reduce the possibility to the utensils being used as
makeshift weapons (Schneier, 2004). The areas of the airport which are of a sensitive nature are still
restricted to the general public. The areas include airport ramps and operational areas. These places
have a special name, SIDA (Security Identification Display Area). Special permission or
qualifications such as clearances must be had for one to enter such spaces (Schneier, 2004). Across
the world some airports have started a "trusted traveler program". The people in support of the
program argue that security screening can be made smoother by identifying people who are threats.
These people are then searched. The argument they pose is that searching trusted individuals should

Memphis International Airport ( Mem )
The following paper explores how Memphis International Airport (MEM), the world's second
busiest
cargo shipping airport, handles its day to day operations involving passenger airlines in conjunction
with
FedEx commercial shipping. By comparing DOT and FAA reports, along with the airlines and
FedEx's
shipping statistics, an airport capacity and congestion problem is disproved. Since Delta closed
down
their MEM hub, passenger air travel has dramatically decreased while cargo shipping has continued
to
steadily climb. Other airlines have started offering services in and out of MEM but were only able to
increase passenger travel by 1%, in 2014. The different operating schedules of passenger and cargo
shipping, allow for each of them to conduct their flights without hindering the operations of the
other.

The Security Administration ( Tsa )
In 2015 ABC News reported on a homeland security's inspector general report stating that airport
screeners, who are employed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), failed to detect
banned weapons in 67 of 70 tests at dozens of airports. They also failed to detect mock explosives
and weapons 95% of the time. (Gardian) In August of 2014, a woman was able to board a plane at
the San Jose Airport without a ticket, made it all the way to her destination before being arrested by
police, and who later was determined to be a mentally disturbed individual.Burger
The most recent example of security failures happened in June of 2016 when it was discovered that
a Somali war criminal was working at the Dulles International Airport. The individual worked as a
security guard employed by private security company that conducted a criminal background and
vetting process as prescribed by the TSA. This individual had full access to the Dulles Airport, just a
short distance to the nation's capital. (Dooley)
These incidents show that the Transportation Security Administration is another bureaucratic agency
that is incapable of providing proper airport security and has so far gotten lucky that another terrorist
attack using airliners has not occurred. In this paper I will illustrate that the TSA is not the best
vehicle to provide airport security and will offer some suggestions on how to improve security at
airports.

The Hijacked American Airlines Flight 11
It began on September 11, 2001, just before 9:00 am, The skies were clear, blue and the temperature
was around a perfect 80 degrees. Five hijackers boarded American Airlines Flight 11 heading for
Los Angeles, Ca. They crashed Flight 11 into the north side of World Trade Center Tower 1. A few
minutes later from the same airport, Logan International airport, five hijackers boarded United
Airlines Flight 175 heading toward Los Angeles, Ca also. The hijackers crashed Flight 175 into
World Trade Center Tower 2. At about the same time from Washington Dulles International airport,
five hijackers boarded American Airlines Flight 77 heading to Los Angeles, Ca. and it was crashed
into the Pentagon. Thirty minutes after Flight 77 leaves Washington Dulles, four hijackers boarded
United Airlines Flight 93 from Newark International airport to San Francisco, Ca. The four hijackers
crashed near Shanksville, Pa. after the passengers fought the hijackers. Experts suggested that Flight
93 's target is believed to have been either the Capitol or the White House. Flight 93 's cockpit voice
recorder revealed crew and passengers tried to seize control of the plane from the hijackers after
learning through phone calls that Flights 11, 77, and 175 had been crashed into buildings that
morning. Once it became evident to the hijackers that the passengers might regain control of the
plane, the hijackers rolled the plane and intentionally crashed it. On the day after 9/11, Attorney

Trump's Immigration Issues
According to the most recently elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, "I could ...
shoot people and I wouldn't lose any voters." Ironically, this quote from President Donald Trump
stated on January 23, 2016 at a rally in Iowa coincides with his continuous claims that immigrants
are a danger to our country because of their risk of terrorism. In 1790, Congress adopted a uniform
law so that any ¨free white person¨ could apply for citizenship after two years of residency. In 1868,
nearly 80 years later, African Americans gained citizenship to the United States with the Fourteenth
Amendment. Finally, in 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed, suspending Chinese
immigration for 10 years and barring Chinese in the U.S. from citizenship. ... Show more content on

Although it seems like we have been changing our immigration laws to make our country a more
open and welcoming society for all people, regardless of race or religion, it appears our new
president is rewinding history. The first American nationality law was enacted by Congress in 1790
which allowed "free white people" to earn citizenship after two years of residency in the country.
According to Charles Gordon, Former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Service, ¨Although there was no contemporaneous Congressional expression to
clarify the legislative intent, it seems clear that the racial limitation [of the law] was designed to
exclude two categories: (1) chattel slaves, both Negro and White, and (2) Indians. Both groups
evidently were deemed unfit for participation in full political privilege. The designation of 'free
white persons' as the sole group eligible for naturalization continued without change for eighty
years." Much like what is happening in present day with Trump's travel ban, the first law regarding
immigration to be enacted in the United States excluded specific groups that were deemed unfit for
full participation. On January 29, 2017, "Passengers [at Dulles International Airport outside of

The Importance Of Life In My Life
Hunched under a mango tree trying to find shade from the scorching sun as sweat drips from my
scalp to my toes, sizzling as it hits the ground. Temperatures increase day by day in the summer I
pray for rain to fall, looking at the stray animals on the roads in craving for water. I gaze off into the
distance of barren acres of land, touching the dry, cracked soil and seeing lifeless crops perish due to
the boiling heat that I was responsible for. As a boy living in the (countryside) rural areas of India in
a middle–class household, everyone in the village was taught at a young age to start working. Even
though I was the third child out of my four siblings it didn't prevent my parents from making me
work out in the fields. It was tough having to do manual labor like field tasks to feeding and taking
care of the animals every day. As the rooster's crow, I wake up immediately and lay out my school
uniform and shower, I brush my hair slicked back, put on my shoes and run off to school with my
friends. I quit going to school until the 10th grade because back in the day my parents wouldn't care
that much about education like today. It was more about harvesting corn in the summer to plant
seeds in the winter. When I was around 20 years old my two older siblings got married and my

Informative Essay On 9 / 11
On September 11, 2001, the nation suffered a traumatic event in which impacted the world's
perspective on terrorism and violence that will last for generations to come. In the early hours of a
calm Tuesday morning business was flowing as usual. The World Trade Center symbolized power
and wealth of America, leading it to be the most prominent target to hit in order to cause deadly
destruction. An eyewitness of the event, Ed Hashey described the first explosion that took place. He
states, "Before you knew it, it was 8:40 a.m. and I was at the World Trade Center station at Cortland
Street. I got off the train, walked up to the street exit, and right as I saw daylight, I heard a huge
explosion and then many pieces of metal debris, some the size of car hoods, were falling all around
me and a very large crowd of people" (Source 9). No one at the time understood what was
happening, the nation was in a state of shock. This passenger airplane turned out to be American
Airlines, Flight 11 which came out of Boston, Massachusetts from Logan International Airport
(Source 1). The original route was heading to upstate New York when suddenly it was hijacked by
terrorists which then controlled the plane to come down towards the city, specifically Manhattan in
an aim to hit the World Trade Center. Everyone believed that it was a true accident and a tragedy,
but to Ed Hashey he stated, "At that point the police ordered a mass evacuation, and I remember
thinking this was a terrorist act. It was just too coincidental to be anything else" (Source 9). The
worse was only yet to come.
Just seventeen minutes later another plane attacked straight into the South Tower, this made it
evident that the collisions were not accidental, yet deliberate and coordinated which sparked the
suspicion of other hijacked aircrafts. Throughout the nation, television news reports caught live
footage of the second plane flying straight into the tower causing another explosion, everyone
watching and even the news reporters themselves were in a state of distress and disbelief (Source
11). Thousands of lives were lost in accordance to this terrorist act, not only those in the towers, yet
all the local services giving aid to those in need. A man was seen

Southwest Airlines Competition
According to Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, Southwest Airlines is currently the third largest
airline in the world, measured by the number of passengers carried. Total number of passengers that
were carried in the year 2005 amounted to 77.7 million. They are behind American Airlines and
Delta Air Lines. After the tragic September 11th incident, Southwest airlines remains as one of the
only major airlines that are still profitable. After the September 11th attacks, Southwest Airline's 6
biggest competitors grounded 240 planes and laid off 70,000 people. Southwest kept every single
person and plane flying. In fact, they have been so successful, even other airlines have started to
copy their practices. One of the biggest reasons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This posed a great threat to Southwest Airlines. Raising money to build such a railway proved
difficult for Texas TGV Corporation. Southwest Airlines created legal barriers that halted the plan
with the help of lobbyists. The state of Texas eventually decided that the company had not lived up
to its promises and stopped the production. The opposition had then been crushed and no longer
posed a problem to Southwest Airlines. In April, 2006, Southwest Airlines has announced their plans
for expansion into the Washington Dulles International Airport. Their plan is to compete with the
other budget carriers there such as Jetblue and AirTran Airways. United Airlines, one of the bigger
airlines, will also be one of their competitors. Many believe that this move by Southwest Airlines
was a defensive move after they saw other budget carriers start to take the passengers. They're trying
to stop other budget carriers from expanding or starting up. Southwest airlines generally avoided the
larger and more congested hub airports but they have gotten more aggressive in their competition
with the larger airlines in recent years. Within the last two years, Southwest Airlines has started at
hubs in both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Both hubs are also served by US

The Attack Of September 11th Essay
The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead, we have emerged stronger

Jetblue Airways, And Spirit Airlines Inc.
Southwest has based their original strategy on maintaining low fares, high frequency of flights, on–
time arrivals and focusing on the customer experience. However, Southwest has altered their
strategy, which previously made them unique in the industry, due to a rising amount of competition
from larger airlines that have developed alternative low–cost carriers, essentially diminishing that
competitive advantage the "Southwest Effect" once had. Kelly notes that there is "new competition
from leaner, larger airlines, low–cost carriers as JetBlue Airways Corp. and Spirit Airlines Inc."7,
making the competitive advantages that Southwest offered less and less sustainable.
In an effort to meet growing customer needs, Southwest has begun to add more flights and expand
into larger markets. According to Bob Jordan, there are "100 million passengers a year who fly
[with] us and a large percentage want to go to New York City... Newark".7 Before, Southwest would
only operate in smaller markets where customers would have to steer away from congested airports
to find Southwest. Now, Southwest is moving to busier and higher–cost airports. Part of the new
strategy is to tap into the high flow Northeast traveler market. Southwest began their Northeast
expansion with services to Baltimore, the least congested airport in the Baltimore–Washington
Metropolitan Area, and eventually reaching other uncongested locations in the Northeast. Expanding

Washington Dc And How The Location Of Howard University
After I obtain my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, I would like to go to medical school. I've
always wanted to attend Howard College of Medicine. Primarily, because of the program they have
there and the fact that they focus on serving underserved communities. With that, I also really love
the location of the school. Howard University is located in the District of Columbia, our nation's
capital. I'm going to discuss Washington DC and how the location of Howard University plays a role
in the school's significance. Washington DC is located on the east coast of the United States,
sandwiched between two states, Maryland and Virginia. The city itself is only 68.3 square miles big.
The elevation is 0 ft. above sea level at its lowest point and 410 ft. above sea level at its highest
point. This area is located on the North American Plate. DC isn't often affected by earthquakes. The
nearest fault line is west of the city which runs through Virginia and Maryland. Most times when
DC experience's earthquakes it's because of that.
The District of Columbia is essentially located on the Potomac River. The Potomac River is a river
that's about 405 miles long and it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Also the Anacostia River and the
Rock Creek river run through the city and both flow into the Potomac River. Washington DC also
has a few reservoirs of water; the Dalecarlia Reservoir, the Georgetown Reservoir and the McMillan
Reservoir. With the location of these bodies of water, DC shares

My First Day In School Essay
New life in a new country For many people, coming to school the first day always has been an
exciting experience and like a little adventure. That very first day of school will become a
significant day in everyone life, a day to celebrate. I had my first day of school too; I couldn't
remember all the details; but somehow, I can still feel the excitement and curiosity that I had at the
time. It would be impossible for anyone to travel back in time to look back on their first day of
school. But, I was lucky that I was able to have another opportunity to feel the same excitement and
curiosity again. It was recently when my family moved to America. Growing up in a small town,
everyone knows each other, so it was harder for me to say goodbye to everyone, especially my close
friends. I was depressed on departing day because I knew I would miss my friends, family, foods,
festivals, air, beach, and the sky full of stars. I knew it wouldn't be the same in America, but I had no
choice at the time. "Is that tree dead?" my mother asked me after we leave the Dulles International
Airport in D.C and on our way to our new home in America. I look around from the small taxi's
window, and I was quite surprised to see something so marvelous. This was the first time in my life I
saw a tree quite big without a single leaf. I thought it was dead too, so I asked the taxi driver, and he
responded me with a laugh. Later, when we arrived at our new home, I found out that the tree is just
sleeping

Southwest Airlines Case Study Southwest Airlines (SWA) as described in the above section was an impressive organization with a long history of success; however, SWA's performance had slipped over time as the company had not earned a "Triple Crown" since 1996. The case study, "Southwest Airlines in Baltimore," offered a detailed look at the Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) in an effort to analyze challenges facing SWA in maintaining their core strategies and their continued dominance of the airline industry. BWI played an important role in the SWA system as it was one of SWA's eight "mega–stations", categorized because it offered more than 100 flight departures per day. It was also the central hub for SWA on the East Coast and had seen an explosion of growth in both total passengers and percentage of those passengers connecting through BWI in the past few years. BWI's operational performance consistently lagged SWA's system–wide average, continued to deteriorate, and with continued growth planned was a major concern throughout the organization. With the planned growth projected by management, BWI's gates would reach capacity limits later in 2001 and BWI's bag sorting area had already reached its capacity (Oliva & Gittell, 2002). BWI was planning to renovate Concourses A and B to provide more gates for SWA; however, SWA also took action and assigned Matt Hafner, a seasoned station manager, to attempt to elevate the operational performance of BWI. They are trained on how to put on the gowning materials in such a way that will provide protections when helping Ebola patients. Additionally, monitoring of the gowning techniques has been done to ensure that the health care workers gown and de–gown properly. This will make certain that they do not infect themselves in the process with inappropriate or unsafe techniques. Re–training has occurred in situations in which transmission has occurred (Fernandez, A1). Hospital preparedness is very important because Ebola is such a contagious illness and can easily be spread from a health care worker who is caring for a patient suffering from Ebola. Following the infection of a health care worker, there are now discussions and considerations being made surrounding the use of biocontainment units for Ebola treatment (Grady A.1). Biocontainment units are facilities that have the equipment and procedures that enable the isolation of patients with dangerous infectious diseases; there are four of these hospitals around the country (GradyA.1). This would provide isolation not only for infected patients but for infected health care workers as well. To prevent such occurances, hospitals hire special disposal companies to dispose of the infected materials. One hospital was faced with unexpected issues regarding waste disposal and sample transportation. "The company that hauled medical trash to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Likewise, the sights seen on the trip were the most spectacular I had ever seen. From just arriving at the airport, to staying in a marvelous hotel and university, learning many different things from speakers, seeing many different important landmarks, and socializing with friends, the trip was certainly unrivaled. I began my trip in the summer of 2015. The excitement was immense considering that I was about to embark on one of the most influential trips of my life. I had begun packing my suitcase the day before the trip to make sure that I did not leave anything behind. Packing for the trip was quite long due to packing a substantial amount of clothes and other necessary items. After all, I was having to pack for a week and a half long trip. • 16. The Importance Of Life In My Life Crouched under a mango tree trying to find shade from the scorching sun as sweat drips from my head to my feet, sizzling as it hits the ground. The temperature rises day by day in the summer I pray for rain to fall, looking at the stray animals on the streets in thirst for water. I stare off into the distance of barren acres of land, touching the dry, cracked soil and seeing lifeless crops die due to the boiling heat that I needed to take care of. As a boy living in the rural areas of India in a middle– class family, everyone in the village was taught at a young age to start working. Even though, I was the third child out of my four sibling it didn't stop my parents from making me work out in the fields. It was tough having to do manual labor like doing field work to feeding and taking care of the animals every day. As the roosters crow I wake up immediately and lay out my school uniform and shower, I comb my hair slicked back, put on my shoes and run off to school with my friends. I stopped going to school until the 10th grade because back in the day my parents wouldn't care that much about education like today. It was more about harvesting corn in the summer to plant seeds in the winter. When I was around 20 years old my two older siblings got married and my family decided it was my turn. But my father tried to help me do something in life first and not sit at home and drink or smoke so he opened a pharmacy, but that didn't work out so long due to my obsession with alcohol and just being lazy which stopped the business from lasting and I continued to do nothing. Meanwhile in 1990s, my father who was assigned to come and work in the United States. My father brought my older brother and I to live in Virginia and we stayed living there for many years. It was my first time stepping on American soil I was intrigued on how technology was used everywhere. But it was tough for me to transition to the American lifestyle, not knowing much of the culture, foods, currency, and language I didn't know where to start. It is the largest airline in the UK based on fleet size, international flights and international destinations and second largest measured by passengers carried, behind easyJet. The British Airways Board was established in 1971 to control the two nationalised airline corporations, BOAC and BEA, and two smaller, regional airlines, Cambrian Airways, from Cardiff, and Northeast Airlines, from Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1993, the intense rivalry between British Airways and Virgin Atlantic culminated in the former being sued for libel arising from claims and counter claims over a "dirty tricks" campaign by BA against Virgin. British Airways ' campaign against Virgin included poaching Virgin Atlantic customers, tampering with private files belonging to Virgin and PR undermining the reputation in the City. Diversity Is Considered A Defining Strength For The Workforce Diversity is considered a defining strength for the workforce and an essential element in accomplishing the various missions that reflects the nations or community that we serve. Ensuring a diverse and inclusive workforce enables the department or agency to be more responsive to the public it serves and offers every individual an equal chance to attain his or her professional goals. A diverse workforce contributes fresh ideas and offers unique perspective which is vital in achieving the desired success. Diversity is not limited to race, gender, or ethnicity. A diverse group includes people of different religions, sexual orientation, ages, work experience, cultures, physical abilities, military experience, and educational background (Security, 2015). Although those differences are a source of benefits, they can also be very hard in the work settings and there are two reasons behind that. First, the difficulty to deal with all the different kinds of people without having a misunderstanding that arise between the supervisor and the employees. Second, problems that arise must be mediated or arbitrated by the supervisor. It can be hard for supervisors to recognize the needs of individuals from other backgrounds and to know how to persuade those individuals to do well. Even if that does not happen, they may simply misunderstand one another and those misunderstandings may lead to conflict. In these ways, a diverse workplace can lead to difficulties for supervisors. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Problematic Use of Full-Body Scanners and Other... Introduction Airport security screens passengers in certain designated areas of the airport. These areas are dubbed as "sterile" or "secure" areas. Sometimes the area is also known as airside. Passengers are screened in to these areas for a reason. These areas are where the exit gates are found. We speak not of the exit gates of the airport but of the aircraft. The result is that if passengers are exiting form a domestic flight they will not have to be screened through security again. Searches can be conducted at any time but usually they are not, at least not without due cause for suspicion. Another interesting thing is that food outlets at airports have begun to use plastic utensils instead of glass utensils. The point of this venture is to reduce the possibility to the utensils being used as makeshift weapons (Schneier, 2004). The areas of the airport which are of a sensitive nature are still restricted to the general public. The areas include airport ramps and operational areas. These places have a special name, SIDA (Security Identification Display Area). Special permission or qualifications such as clearances must be had for one to enter such spaces (Schneier, 2004). Across the world some airports have started a "trusted traveler program". The people in support of the program argue that security screening can be made smoother by identifying people who are threats. These people are then searched. The argument they pose is that searching trusted individuals should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Memphis International Airport ( Mem ) The following paper explores how Memphis International Airport (MEM), the world's second busiest cargo shipping airport, handles its day to day operations involving passenger airlines in conjunction with FedEx commercial shipping. By comparing DOT and FAA reports, along with the airlines and FedEx's shipping statistics, an airport capacity and congestion problem is disproved. Since Delta closed down their MEM hub, passenger air travel has dramatically decreased while cargo shipping has continued to steadily climb. Other airlines have started offering services in and out of MEM but were only able to increase passenger travel by 1%, in 2014. They also failed to detect mock explosives and weapons 95% of the time. (Gardian) In August of 2014, a woman was able to board a plane at the San Jose Airport without a ticket, made it all the way to her destination before being arrested by police, and who later was determined to be a mentally disturbed individual.Burger The most recent example of security failures happened in June of 2016 when it was discovered that a Somali war criminal was working at the Dulles International Airport. Ironically, this quote from President Donald Trump stated on January 23, 2016 at a rally in Iowa coincides with his continuous claims that immigrants are a danger to our country because of their risk of terrorism. In 1790, Congress adopted a uniform law so that any ¨free white person¨ could apply for citizenship after two years of residency. In 1868, nearly 80 years later, African Americans gained citizenship to the United States with the Fourteenth Amendment. Although it seems like we have been changing our immigration laws to make our country a more open and welcoming society for all people, regardless of race or religion, it appears our new president is rewinding history. The first American nationality law was enacted by Congress in 1790 which allowed "free white people" to earn citizenship after two years of residency in the country. According to Charles Gordon, Former Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, ¨Although there was no contemporaneous Congressional expression to clarify the legislative intent, it seems clear that the racial limitation [of the law] was designed to exclude two categories: (1) chattel slaves, both Negro and White, and (2) Indians. Both groups evidently were deemed unfit for participation in full political privilege. The designation of 'free white persons' as the sole group eligible for naturalization continued without change for eighty years." • 55. Informative Essay On 9 / 11 On September 11, 2001, the nation suffered a traumatic event in which impacted the world's perspective on terrorism and violence that will last for generations to come. In the early hours of a calm Tuesday morning business was flowing as usual. The World Trade Center symbolized power and wealth of America, leading it to be the most prominent target to hit in order to cause deadly destruction. An eyewitness of the event, Ed Hashey described the first explosion that took place. He states, "Before you knew it, it was 8:40 a.m. and I was at the World Trade Center station at Cortland Street. I got off the train, walked up to the street exit, and right as I saw daylight, I heard a huge explosion and then many pieces of metal debris, some the size of car hoods, were falling all around me and a very large crowd of people" (Source 9). No one at the time understood what was happening, the nation was in a state of shock. This passenger airplane turned out to be American Airlines, Flight 11 which came out of Boston, Massachusetts from Logan International Airport (Source 1). The original route was heading to upstate New York when suddenly it was hijacked by terrorists which then controlled the plane to come down towards the city, specifically Manhattan in an aim to hit the World Trade Center. Everyone believed that it was a true accident and a tragedy, but to Ed Hashey he stated, "At that point the police ordered a mass evacuation, and I remember thinking this was a terrorist act. It was just too coincidental to be anything else" (Source 9). The worse was only yet to come. Just seventeen minutes later another plane attacked straight into the South Tower, this made it evident that the collisions were not accidental, yet deliberate and coordinated which sparked the suspicion of other hijacked aircrafts. Throughout the nation, television news reports caught live footage of the second plane flying straight into the tower causing another explosion, everyone watching and even the news reporters themselves were in a state of distress and disbelief (Source 11). Thousands of lives were lost in accordance to this terrorist act, not only those in the towers, yet all the local services giving aid to those in need. A man was seen ... Southwest Airlines Competition According to Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, Southwest Airlines is currently the third largest airline in the world, measured by the number of passengers carried. Total number of passengers that were carried in the year 2005 amounted to 77.7 million. They are behind American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. After the tragic September 11th incident, Southwest airlines remains as one of the only major airlines that are still profitable. After the September 11th attacks, Southwest Airline's 6 biggest competitors grounded 240 planes and laid off 70,000 people. Southwest kept every single person and plane flying. In fact, they have been so successful, even other airlines have started to copy their practices. One of the biggest reasons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This posed a great threat to Southwest Airlines. Raising money to build such a railway proved difficult for Texas TGV Corporation. Southwest Airlines created legal barriers that halted the plan with the help of lobbyists. The state of Texas eventually decided that the company had not lived up to its promises and stopped the production. The opposition had then been crushed and no longer posed a problem to Southwest Airlines. In April, 2006, Southwest Airlines has announced their plans for expansion into the Washington Dulles International Airport. Their plan is to compete with the other budget carriers there such as Jetblue and AirTran Airways. United Airlines, one of the bigger airlines, will also be one of their competitors. Many believe that this move by Southwest Airlines was a defensive move after they saw other budget carriers start to take the passengers. They're trying to stop other budget carriers from expanding or starting up. Southwest airlines generally avoided the larger and more congested hub airports but they have gotten more aggressive in their competition with the larger airlines in recent years. • 72. Jetblue Airways, And Spirit Airlines Inc. Southwest has based their original strategy on maintaining low fares, high frequency of flights, on– time arrivals and focusing on the customer experience. However, Southwest has altered their strategy, which previously made them unique in the industry, due to a rising amount of competition from larger airlines that have developed alternative low–cost carriers, essentially diminishing that competitive advantage the "Southwest Effect" once had. Kelly notes that there is "new competition from leaner, larger airlines, low–cost carriers as JetBlue Airways Corp. and Spirit Airlines Inc."7, making the competitive advantages that Southwest offered less and less sustainable. In an effort to meet growing customer needs, Southwest has begun to add more flights and expand into larger markets. According to Bob Jordan, there are "100 million passengers a year who fly [with] us and a large percentage want to go to New York City... Newark".7 Before, Southwest would only operate in smaller markets where customers would have to steer away from congested airports to find Southwest. Now, Southwest is moving to busier and higher–cost airports. Part of the new strategy is to tap into the high flow Northeast traveler market. Southwest began their Northeast expansion with services to Baltimore, the least congested airport in the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area, and eventually reaching other uncongested locations in the Northeast. • 78. Washington Dc And How The Location Of Howard University After I obtain my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, I would like to go to medical school. I've always wanted to attend Howard College of Medicine. Primarily, because of the program they have there and the fact that they focus on serving underserved communities. With that, I also really love the location of the school. Howard University is located in the District of Columbia, our nation's capital. I'm going to discuss Washington DC and how the location of Howard University plays a role in the school's significance. Washington DC is located on the east coast of the United States, sandwiched between two states, Maryland and Virginia. The city itself is only 68.3 square miles big. The elevation is 0 ft. above sea level at its lowest point and 410 ft. above sea level at its highest point. This area is located on the North American Plate. DC isn't often affected by earthquakes. The nearest fault line is west of the city which runs through Virginia and Maryland. Most times when DC experience's earthquakes it's because of that. The District of Columbia is essentially located on the Potomac River. The Potomac River is a river that's about 405 miles long and it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Also the Anacostia River and the Rock Creek river run through the city and both flow into the Potomac River. Washington DC also has a few reservoirs of water; the Dalecarlia Reservoir, the Georgetown Reservoir and the McMillan Reservoir. With the location of these bodies of water, DC shares ... That very first day of school will become a significant day in everyone life, a day to celebrate. It would be impossible for anyone to travel back in time to look back on their first day of school. But, I was lucky that I was able to have another opportunity to feel the same excitement and curiosity again. It was recently when my family moved to America. Growing up in a small town, everyone knows each other, so it was harder for me to say goodbye to everyone, especially my close friends. I was depressed on departing day because I knew I would miss my friends, family, foods, festivals, air, beach, and the sky full of stars. I knew it wouldn't be the same in America, but I had no choice at the time. "Is that tree dead?" my mother asked me after we leave the Dulles International Airport in D.C and on our way to our new home in America. I look around from the small taxi's window, and I was quite surprised to see something so marvelous. This was the first time in my life I saw a tree quite big without a single leaf. I thought it was dead too, so I asked the taxi driver, and he responded me with a laugh. Later, when we arrived at our new home, I found out that the tree is just sleeping ...
