1. SHORT EXPLANATION
Our preliminary task involved a variety of elements to create one piece. The jingle, created
from a mix of different monophonic tunes to create ours. We wanted the jingle to be
upbeat to suit our younger target audience and the outcome seems successful. We used to
effect of a fade instead of a sudden change to create a bed beneath the voice, something
we took from other stations who hold the same target audience – like Radio 1. It keeps the
story more captivating and holds an element of continuity, making the whole sequence flow
and show the same event is continued after the clip. It distinguished the clip from our
broadcasts within the interview, which may have been difficult if we hadn’t because the
same voice would be talking in the studio and on the clip. We also chose to say our name in
the jingle, in the case that some people may have just tuned in and to signify a change in
broadcasting, from previously to the interview. It’s loud and uses an echo because it is
upbeat and fits the upbeat tune for our audience. The significance of the jingle could
indicate to the younger audience that they might enjoy our station if they’ve just tuned in,
they may stop on our station and continue listening because they like our chosen tune.
We chose a given accent for ‘Justin’ because it set a boundary between the interviewer and
the guest – as our voices sounded similar on record on the first attempt. The interviews
voice was not level in tone because we were not reading the news and the more informal
conversational tone makes it easier to listen to and creates a sense of atmosphere that
would apply to the younger listeners.
