We heard great feedback from the residents about how they enjoyed the
children’s holiday program. We hope you had the chance to meet a few new
resident faces at our program! The toddlers have enjoyed taking tools to work on
the residents’ wheelchairs when we visit. They are becoming very handy with their tools. We have also met some new
residents who have joined the Stephens Care Center. In addition we have also enjoyed visiting with the resident pets
around Kendal. The preschoolers are enjoying their time with the residents. It seems like every day they ask if we are
going to go see them. We have been very busy with the residents. We decorated Christmas trees with them and gave
them to the residents to take to their room. We have also been playing board games with them also. As always the
children love story time with Donna and one with Dan. We have been missing Polly these past couple of weeks because
of the holidays and they are anxiously awaiting her return. It is always fun when Marie comes to play on Fridays.
Bird Tweets:

Once again another year has come and gone here at Kendal. Robin made it
to Florida, and we look forward to postcards and pictures from her while she
is gone. Our classroom is getting back to “normal” now that our friends are
back from their holiday vacations.
Over the past month we have had Ian, Brandon, and Cole turn three years
old. The majority of our classroom has become potty trained! Our friends
have started to work on recognizing and understanding what letters make up
their names and identifying them. It’s hard to believe our group is growing
up so fast as six of our nine friends are now three.
During the month of January we plan to focus on winter, snow, and the
color blue. We also will start attending the Oberlin Library on the first
Thursday of each month instead of the first Friday. We thought this might
work out better as more children will get to participate in our trip this way.
We have some very important dates coming up, so please mark your
calendars for the dates listed on the first page.

  • 1. January 2012 Newsletter Welcome to 2012! I hope this year brings each and every one of you the very best. This month we have our annual parent meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 17th at 5:30 pm. KELC will provide food and care for your children while we review what has happened in 2011 and what you can look forward to in 2012. I hope each family can attend as some important information will be shared. We would like to welcome Chris Bromberg to KELC as he is an Oberlin College student working with the Music Therapy Department. He will also be sharing his musical talents with the children this quarter. ☺ Have a great month! Happy New Year everybody!!! The holidays flew by and we are ready to start fresh. We are talking about snow and ice in the classroom. It was just our luck that we finally got some snow! They children enjoyed making a little snowman out on the play yard as well as playing with the snow in the sensory table. We also put salt on ice to see what happens. They really got into making the ice disappear with the salt. We will also be talking about different methods of art to prepare for our trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art. We are excited for our ELI trips to resume this month with our first trip in the New Year on January 31! With the change in the weather finally here, we would like to remind everyone to make sure there is weather-appropriate clothing in your child’s tub in the bathroom. Also, we would like to remind everyone to make sure to bring in gloves, hats, and boots for outdoor play. If the “feels like” temperature is above 21 degrees, we will be taking them out to play and release their energy. We have lots of birthdays in our room in these next coming months. If the “feels like” temperature is above 21 degrees, we will be taking them out to play and release their energy. We have lots of birthdays in our room in these next coming months. Maia and Hayden both turned four in December to start us off. Then we have one to two birthdays every month! We are going to be busy! Have a great month! Sara and Karen

Happy, Happy Birthday to You! Intergenerational News We heard great feedback from the residents about how they enjoyed the children’s holiday program. We hope you had the chance to meet a few new resident faces at our program! The toddlers have enjoyed taking tools to work on the residents’ wheelchairs when we visit. They are becoming very handy with their tools. We have also met some new residents who have joined the Stephens Care Center. In addition we have also enjoyed visiting with the resident pets around Kendal. The preschoolers are enjoying their time with the residents. It seems like every day they ask if we are going to go see them. We have been very busy with the residents. We decorated Christmas trees with them and gave them to the residents to take to their room. We have also been playing board games with them also. As always the children love story time with Donna and one with Dan. We have been missing Polly these past couple of weeks because of the holidays and they are anxiously awaiting her return. It is always fun when Marie comes to play on Fridays.
  • 6. Bird Tweets: Once again another year has come and gone here at Kendal. Robin made it to Florida, and we look forward to postcards and pictures from her while she is gone. Our classroom is getting back to “normal” now that our friends are back from their holiday vacations. Over the past month we have had Ian, Brandon, and Cole turn three years old. The majority of our classroom has become potty trained! Our friends have started to work on recognizing and understanding what letters make up their names and identifying them. It’s hard to believe our group is growing up so fast as six of our nine friends are now three. During the month of January we plan to focus on winter, snow, and the color blue. We also will start attending the Oberlin Library on the first Thursday of each month instead of the first Friday. We thought this might work out better as more children will get to participate in our trip this way. We have some very important dates coming up, so please mark your calendars for the dates listed on the first page. ~Jeni, Julie & Jennifer Giraffe Whistles: It’s a new year!!!
