  1. 1. nd2 Grade News Mrs. Ealy’s Class March 9, 2012 Letter from Mrs. Ealy Next Week’s SpecialsDear Parents, Monday - Wellness Next Friday, March 16th we will be celebrating St. Patrick’sDay. We will not be having a party for this holiday, just quick Tuesday – Art“green” snack to celebrate the day. If you volunteered to donatesome food or supplies for our snack, a reminder note was sent home Wednesday – Music and Computerstoday. We are still in need of: • Cups Thursday – Music and P.E. (Wear Sneakers) • Green Candies Friday – Library and P.E. (Wear Sneakers) • Green Apples • Kiwi • Or a green food of your choice  What We’re Learning About!If you would like to donate any of these items, please let me know byWednesday, March 14th! Remember to have your child wear green Math – This week we started Unit 8 on fractions. Students learned whatto school that day! We will also be doing a couple of activities that each part of a fraction means and how to write them. We also looked atrelate to St. Patrick’s Day and tie into our curriculum. fractions of a collection. Fractions are a very difficult concept to master, Our next science unit in class will be landforms. My hope is however there are tons of ways to practice at home! Ihave added a list of websites that will help with fractions on our Writing – This week students worked very hard on writing theirclassroom site. Making some type of game out of fractions is always paragraphs about their animal. We started typing our magazine in thefun for kids. Try using M&M’s, pizza, apples, or coins to separate computer lab on Wednesday. We practiced writing “How To” stories.into different fractions. Today I have sent home another orange scale for your child Social Studies – This week we finished up our unit on Citizens in a Community. We ended the unit with a Patriotism day in class. We hadto keep track of their reading. Please return the first one to school on a great conversation about what it means to be patriotic. We madeMonday. I will start putting them up in the hallway next week! patriotic stars on our last day of the unit! Our field trip is less than a week away! If you have not sentin your permission slip, please do so as soon as possible. Reminder:Since we are going to a live performance at a theater, we would like Upcoming Events and Dates toto use this opportunity to teach the children about how to displayappropriate theater-etiquette.
