The Impact of Computers In Today's Society
Computer, as the term is most commonly used, refers to the digital computer, an electronic device that makes lengthy or complicated calculations at
high speeds and (except for certain small models) is also able to make decisions based on logic. A less common type ofcomputer is the analog
computer. A digital computer forms the core of a data processing system. Data processing is, basically, the organization of information into a useful
form by such processes as comparing, selecting, and arranging. A very simple example of data processing is alphabetizing a list of names.... Show more

In such sciences as physics, chemistry, and psychology, computers are used to monitor experiments and organize the results so that they can be
interpreted more easily. In astronomy, computers perform the complicated calculations necessary for determining the orbits and relative positions of
various heavenly bodies. In engineering, computers are used to help produce and evaluate the design of new products. Another use of computers is to
control industrial processes. This form of control, a type of automation, has been applied to such processes as machining, oil refining, and the
manufacture of chemicals. Another industrial use is to control robots used in assembly operations. Computers are essential for a variety of functions
performed by government agencies. For example, computers are used by the National Weather Services for analyzing large amounts of weather data
to make weather forecasts; by the Federal Aviation Administration for operating the complex equipment needed to direct air traffic; by the Internal
Revenue Service for handling tax records; by the Census Bureau for compiling statistical data on the country's population; and by the military for
communication, defense, and weapons systems. In the home, computers are used for a number of purposes. A popular used of home computers is for
playing video games. They are also used to gain access by telephone

The Impact Of Media On Society Today
According to Dictionary.com, "media" is defined as "means of communication that reach and influence society or people widely."
For instance, radios, televisions, newspapers, and magazines are forms of media. The influence the media has around the globe is profound, therefore,
in this essay, I am going to discuss the impact that media has on the society today.
Although social media can connect all people in the world instantly, the negative effects have a great impact on the society because it decreases the
desire for actual communication.
First and foremost, media has an impact on Change in Identity.
In Miss Representation video, it is said that "53% of 13 year old girls are unhappy with their bodies. And that number increases by 75% at 17 years
old. And 65% in women and girls with anorexia"
This is very true because in teen magazines and beauty pageant shows, women are portrayed as "skinny".
This image by the media today is unrealistic and even a very dangerous standard of feminine beauty.
The idea by media that "thinness" is idealized and expected for women to be considered "attractive".
Images in televisions, advertisements, and music usually portray women as "ideal woman" as tall, white, blonde, and thin. Women and girls with
weight problems like obesity, are going to feel less worthy and ashamed of their physical appearances.
This causes them to be depressed which can lead to suicidal attempts because they learn to accept that the society only wants skinny

Today's Violence and Its Many Causes
Violence in today's society is at an all time high. There are many causes for the increase in violence in our society. Violence is defined by (1) criminal
law, the illegal use of unjustified force, or the intimidating effect created by the threat of this (2) the use of physical force to injure somebody or
damage something (Encarta Dictionary: English – North American Version). Rape, homicide, assault and burglary with a weapon are all forms of
malicious legal violence that plague our communities in irrevocable ways. In fact violence in the form of homicide is the second leading cause in youth

conclude that: children who watch significant amounts of television and movie violence are more likely to exhibit aggressive behavior, attitudes
and values (Illinois Center for Violence Prevention. Media and The Changing World Report. May 2005. Page 12). Per the Congressional Public
Health Summit, 2000, young children 1.) are more easily impressionable 2.) have a harder time distinguishing between fantasy and reality 3.) cannot
easily discern motives for violence and 4.) learn by observing and imitating. Finally there are plenty of studies going on right now researching how
violent video games can cause people to have more aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; and decrease empathetic, helpful behaviors with
peers. With the over stimulation of the brain, it requires children to go above and beyond the last experience in order to feel the same endorphins.
With the need to out do the next guy and with the motto "if it bleeds, it leads", then what do we expect for the next generation of youth to be faced with?
In generation Y we are seeing a major increase in

Technolgy and American Societies Today
Technology has taken an overwhelming presence within American societies today. Careers, education, volunteering, advertising and now even
fundraising can be done solely from one's computer. With this relatively new trend, companies must take advantage of the time clients spend online to
further their own organizations. There are three simple techniques that companies should utilize and implement to profit from the new technological era.
The process of affiliate marketing is extremely important for publicity and fundraising. This is when an organization directs traffic from its own
website to a different organization's website in order to promote a product, good or service of that organization's with the promise of receiving a
percentage of the proceeds in return. Companies can profit significantly from this process if used correctly and partnered with the right organizations.
Many popular companies participate in affiliate marketing, such as Amazon, local grocery stores, sporting goods stores, etc. It does not cost anything to
establish an affiliate marketing relationship with a company, but can have exponential rewards.
The concept of online donating and memberships is an excellent way companies can benefit from the Web. Asking face–to–face for money can make
both the asker and the potential giver uncomfortable, and with the wrong atmosphere laid, it can cost an organization a substantial donation. The
opportunity to donate online provides clients with a private,

The Effects Of Authority On The Society Today
ABUSIVE AUTHORITY
America consists of many authorized positions of authority. Such titles consist of Politicians, Lawyers, Doctors, Law Officials etc.–––– including our
former and past candidates of presidency. These Political figures are expected to guardianship the well–being of the citizens in our country. Their
"means of interest" in the people of our country is now being exposed for liberation, freedom and truth in which it is properly due to all men and
women that are created equally. This essay will explore how abuse of authority impacts upon individual freedom in our society today. If we examine
the first impact of abusive authority, we will find that moral standards are today, at its lowest percentile. It is fair to say that America has lost itsmorality
. No longer are we conservative or discreet. Yet, we are outspoken and boastfully filled with pride and our very own alto ego; living for self. No
longer are we caring or outreaching. Yet and still, we build a wall. For example, there are many obscurities that can be easily witnessed while watching
American television. Whereas, many actors are now shown at their least of clothing or somewhat nudity in the midst of primetime broadcasting. What
happened to broadcasting services only allowing such nature of television that is shown at a specific time during the night? Has the media authority
taken advantage of our innocence, our kids innocence? Maybe! Another example, there have been many shootings and

Diversity Of Crime In Society Today
The main questions that should be asked is why is there is much crime in society today? I am 27 years old and I have seen so much crime in my
20's that it sad whether it is on the news or even in my hometown, Memphis, TN. With crime in our society we are as well as is losing our authority.
When discussion the diversity of crime and society the matter is the things that makes criminal law enforcement such a perplexing question. Like I
mention, I have been living in Memphis, TN all my life which have been for 27 years. Just this past Sunday my city had a Black Lives Matter
protest. Also in the city of Memphis the groups of KKK also protest on July 10th at the same time. The Black Lives Matter protests took place on the
Memphis/Arkansans Bridge. Even those this were two different protest I must say they both were very peaceful , yes it was a scary thing because

Just this year alone the City of Memphis has had over a 100 deaths, in which a lot of them have been people of color. I will never forget the number
of people I have seen get killed in the downtown area where I work security in Memphis. The youth of today is the reason why society is bad
today. The crimes rate in my hometown is increasing every day and it is sad. There have been times when I have ask myself why is the crimes
rate so uncontrollable in Memphis and also around the world. I believe it starts at home, I have a daughter and I refused to let my child grow up
the wrong way. I keep my child in church and we are very involved in child, I refused to let these streets raise my daughter. Now the most important
question to me why is it that just Black Lives Matter. No, All lives Matter, to me everyone is the same we all bleed the same and organs or the same

The Cultural Environment Of Today 's Society
This work will analyse and consider the cultural environment in which we are all subjected to in today's society. Culture doesn't have just one
meaning, they vary depending on where you live, how you live, how you been taught, religion, language and many others. These are just some of the
factors of that create the diversification of specific types of culture, that we all have to adapt too even if you look at individualism and collectivism.
Businesses of today, also have to change the way they operate, to suit and operate effectively depending on where they want to situate themselves,
otherwise problems could arise
Culture can be recognised for nor right or wrong in today's society. We've become as a human race influenced by various avenues and ideas of how
things should be done. We all have an ideology that the society we have been bought up is the correct fashion of which others should follow suit, but
that not the case in some instances. Culture is the shared values of beliefs, values and normality of how people and businesses should act on in the
environment of which we are surrounded by. This doesn't mean as an individual one has to follow but in some cases as a sign of respect you'll just
have too.
Culture may not be right or wrong but just a matter of opinion, not truth. Society changes all the time, when society changes the culture does too. 10
years ago the culture of which we live in used to be completely different. In that space of time we have changed the way we

Introduction
Our world today is based off of technology and one form of technology in particular seems to control us more than we control it. Cell phones. The
iPhone in particular is one of the most popular forms of technology in the world. On June 29, 2007, Apple released the first iPhone ever (Nguyen). The
public had mixed feeling on the newest touch screen phone, some thought it was a step towards a greater future in technology and others thought it was
too complicated and technology is moving too fast for mankind. Little did we know that the iPhone would become the most popular smartphone in ...

iPhone was the first true touchscreen phone on the market that grabbed people's attention. Ever since the first release of the iPhone, sales have
increased every year for every new iPhone that Apple releases.

The Impact Of Technology On Society Today
There is no doubt that technology plays a big role in society today. Whether people like it or not, one thing is definite: technology is not going
anywhere. Having grown up in the midst of the digital revolution, technology was going to be a part of my life, and it most definitely has. No matter
if it is the Internet, computers, cell phones, tablets, video games; I have been exposed to all of them. However, of all the pieces of technology I have
used, the one I cannot live without would have to be my laptop. This year has opened my eyes to how important it is to have a nice laptop. Whether I
am taking notes in class, doing research online, typing a paper, surfing the web, or Skyping my family back home, I am always using my laptop.
Sure, I still use my cell phone a lot, but I honestly do not use social media on it as I used to. So really the main purposes for my cell phone are what
they should be for; making phone calls and sending texts. If I did not have a laptop, it would make going to school more challenging, I would
spend much more time at the library using their computers and could not enjoy lying in bed watching my favorite show on Netflix. Of course I
could handle not having a laptop. However, after completing my first year away at school, my eyes have been opened to the importance of having
one, and I have seen how dependent I am on mine. I use the technology I use because it makes my life easier, simpler, and more efficient. I also use
technology because it

The Pros And Cons Of Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment accusations regarding public figures has been one of the most popular news we see on social media these days. "Sexual harassment
becomes a crime only when there is a nonconsensual touching or sexual contact that can be prosecuted." (Henning, 2017). Some of the accused
individuals are admitting their guilt in some of these situations, while many are denying these allegations, particularly those that occurred decades ago.
In many of the instances, money and other valuable considerations are being used to get documents signed that swore the party marking the claim to
silence regarding the matter, or pay back the money with interest. This probably because it is much easier and cheaper to pay someone off than to fight
this slander/libel in court.
The most recently talked about news of sexual harassment was about Harvey Weinstein, an American Film producer and former film executive. At the
beginning of October this year, many women came forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment andrape including, by Rose McGowan,
Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashley Judd and many others. The humiliated producer had been fired from his company and Manhattan district attorney is
currently seeking indictment against him.
A report from The New Yorker explains that Harvey Weinstein put a lot of effort to silences accusers, journalists, and reporters. "The former movie
executive denies the new accusations and "any allegations of non–consensual sex," but said in a statement to the

Impact Of Technology On Society Today
Impact of Technology on Society Throughout history, our ingenuity has provided us with a resource in which our society has become greatly
dependent on. Coal, a solid stone like fossil fuel, has been found to be useful in many different ways like refining materials, use of it 's by–products
and heat, but coal has been mainly used as a source of energy used to power machinery and produce electricity. It is the resource that powered the
machines responsible for the industrial revolution nearly two hundred and fifty years ago, and sparked the birth of what society as we know it. This
paper will discuss the history of coal and the role it plays in creating the building blocks for modern society, including the early uses of coal, leading
to today 's use for coal, the adverse effects and how it has become a resource in which the world has become dependent on.
Firstly, what is coal? Coal is a sedimentary rock which has a high percentage of carbon along with various other elements which make this rock
piratically combustible. Considered as a fossil fuel, coal is formed by dead plant matter, that accumulates over a very long period of time, which
converts into peat and accumulates making peat bogs. This peat is converted through biological and geological processes that takes a very long time to
complete. It can take up to one hundred thousand years for a substantial amount of peat to gather and transform into coal. There are different stages to
the formation of coal. As

The Censorship Of Singapore ( Mda )
The practise of censorship – the restriction of ideas, action or image through the control of the media or any other medium of expression. Censorship
should be practised sensibly so that it will not restrict the development and expression of new ideas while ensuring that social and political harmony is
assured. Censorship plays a vital role in maintaining the morals of its society and creating an economically dynamic, socially cohesive and culturally
vibrant nation. (N.A, N.D) The press exert a significant influence on the public and is partly responsible for the views and values that many hold.
Hence, it should be responsible with what it put forth to the public. Singapore has gradually moved from film censorship to film classification and
now to the focus on media literacy. Media Authority of Singapore (MDA) plays a significant role in regulating and conducting matters pertaining to
the media. It is guided by legislation/acts such as Media Development Authority of Singapore Act, code of practice and guideline to comply and
enforce the entities. In this term paper, we will discuss how the media handle censorship and classification related matters as well as reviewing the
Films Appeal Committee under the films act policy. In this regard, recommendations will also be given on how to improve the clause.
The media environment has undergone major changes, driven largely by the forces of technology, media convergence and globalisation. (Media

Issues Influencing The Society Today
There are numerous issues influencing the society today. In fact, it is quite shocking that they keep on increasing as time goes by. Moreover, most of
these social issues are perpetuated through the people's strive for superiority. For instance, racism keeps on escalating due to the fact that some races
want to prove their dominance over the rest. Consequently, the parties involved in such scenarios end up being either the victim or perpetrator.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman illustrates the state of the society; whereby gender inequality has become the new normal. In her analysis, the society has
become degraded to a point that the men are superior, actually too superior over the women. This has been evident through some of the roles allocated
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In point of fact, women have to endure and overcome a lot of obstacles so as to achieve what men have managed to without struggle. Inequality is not
only exhibited through the roles allocated to them, but also in payment, an act which has led to the emanation of the gender wage gap. These issues
have also escalated in religion. Religiously inspired gender inequality is usually manifested through the privileges and opportunities which are granted
based on an individual's gender. Specifically, gender inequality has been made apparent in religion through the gendered institutions, gendered
identities, gendered interactions, and gender ideologies. Patriarchal church leaderships are clear signs of how deep gender inequality has been
integrated into religion (Shepard 413). Women are given less leadership roles compared to men, and sometimes are not even considered at all in any
decision making process. Such acts are clear indicators of how gender inequality is negatively affecting the society. Actually, it is quite saddening that
even the most respected aspects of the society (such as religion) are participating in these 'tainted' acts. Religion is meant to enforce religious–based
norms and morals, and in fact, it should be rock–steady in the fight against gender equality. Thus, as per Gilman's analysis, the human society in general
has been tarnished through gender related issues. Most women

Preindustrial Society Compared To Today

Life in preindustrial society was very similar to today
During the 18th and 19th centuries, there were significant changes to lifestyles due to the industrial revolution. This event allowed us to modernise and
build the world we are living in today. Yet life before theindustrial revolution compared to today's society cannot be stated similar. In the modern
society, people rely on mechanisations and machinery for living, however, before the 1750, everything was mostly done manually as countries had not
yet adopted machines. This caused a significant changes in lifestyles from the preindustrial times to the modern world.
The industrial revolution was a global turning point socially, economically and environmentally. Alternatively,

Invisibility in Today's Society Every day in our government there are a multitude of decisions made by our elected officials. It may appear that our
country's administration fairly represents the community, but many of the lower income citizens find themselves invisible. They find do not get to
voice their opinions and they receive unequal treatment. In the current generation, it is a sad fact that money controls not only people but even the
government. This leads to the lower class to get poorly represented or even misrepresented. Unfortunately, the government is a large part of everyone's
lives and many of the decisions can be viewed as questionable. From local to state, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No representation and even virtual representation will not work in this country. In society, the only way to have opinions heard is collectively. I urge
citizens to demand that their government listen to the people. The only difference between the rich and the poor is pieces of paper. Intellect crosses
class lines, and the government needs to know that. Belonging to a bourgeois family myself, I have dealt with the struggle of voicing my opinions
and have actively tried to make change. If our homeland continues down this path of misrepresentation, there may perhaps be great deal of
consequences our country will have to face. Our nation was built on a set of standards only to be tarnished by the corrupt ways of our administration.
These ways in which the rich are favored due to the simple fact that they have money in their possession. The poor have ideas, thoughts, and feelings,
too. The middle class has much of the same. It is basic human rights to be listened to and appreciated. A prodigious deal of grief must be felt for the
public who just stand idle knowing that they can, in mass numbers, have their "invisibility" removed. Seeing the number of struggles through our
society, we need to reflect on errors made throughout history to insure that we do not repeat those mistakes. In 2016, our nation will elect a new
leader, and it is the hope of all middle to lower class Americans that this new leader will have the

The Issue Of Today 's Society
Seminar Paper (Entangled) Introduction There is no denying consumerism has become an issue of today's society. People are consuming more
than they ever have before. Because of it material culture has become an increasing area of study. Material culture is described as the relationship
between people and their material things. People are owning more stuff which is leading to major problems. The mass consumptions of these
goods has a negative impact on the planet. It takes lots of energy and resources to produce a product, thus takes a negative toll on the planet.
Rainforest are cut down, habits are destroyed, global warming increases, waste and toxic gases have increased, animals are killed, and people are
displaced. The people in marginalized communities and third world countries are the ones that are affected the most. People are employed in
horrible conditions, and paid horrendous salaries by these huge corporations profiting on the exploitation of these people, while profiting
tremendously from the boom in consumer goods. Not only have people of western societies but people around the world are craving and desiring
consumer goods. What is being consumed at an alarming rate is technology. With the technological boom and technological advances at an alarming
rate has led to people purchasing such products. Because technology has become so globalize and so easy to acquire at a price that is accessible by

Religion in Todays Society
Religion has affected the human in many ways; rules, traditions, culture patterns, morality, etc. The most powerful and important role that religion
plays is that how it controls the human. I believe that religion has created conflicts between people including whole countries. Religion has the societal
effect of dividing people into "us" and "them". This unfortunately has the same characteristics as any other form of discrimination, such a as racialism.
Then, it would come very easy to consider "us" as the righteous and "them" as unrighteous. Religion can also be used as a tool of suppression. It 's easy
to maintain order and nullify dissent by citing religious grounds. An example of how society is influenced and impacted by religious ... Show more

Catholics, by basis of religion alone, were not allowed to vote, could not worship in public, and were not allowed to hold public office.
In the Virginia colony where Anglicanism ruled all citizens were required to attend church and to be catechized by a minister. If someone refused to
do so they could be killed. Colonists were also required to financially support the church just as they would a governmental institution. They were not
allowed to associate with anyone who was not of their faith unless they were attempting to convert people of differing faiths.
With the above history, it is quite easy to see where there would be a need for separation of church and state. While the early colonists were in part
coming here to create a better life for themselves they unfortunately brought with them the ideals of oppression and enacted them in their local
townships. Religious oppression has eased up in today 's modern American culture when compared with that of the early Americans, part of which can

The Importance Of Respect In Society Today
We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don't know exactly what it means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself
worthy of your admiration or approval. Society cannot function without respect because it is the oil that keeps the gears turning. Respect is actively
listening, obeying orders, and being mindful, whether it's to others, the environment, the law, or yourself.
In today's society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in public with racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more.
Racism and police brutality have increased since cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray.People of color have not received the respect they
deserve and respect for policemen is decreasing. Sexism has increased since third–wave feminists surfaced and skewed people's image and respect for
feminists. Religious intolerance increases as terrorist attacks continue with people's misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group lacking
respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn't anywhere near as respectful to their parents, teachers, or elders as they were before the
nineteen–hundreds. But to make the youth more respectful, one must respect the youth. Jenni Herd wrote in response to Times's "Moods and

responses as though we were another species? I would like adults to treat us

The police roles in today's society are to try to maintain the order as well as to control to keep the public safe. I will describe the issues that police

and most of all the use of deadly force. For the police when things start to happen and the police needs to use force you overthink that someone will

Honesty within the agency it should be a goal for everyone involved in the corporation.
Another issue of racial and biased profiling is also a popular problem for law enforcement today. The important thing for officers is to maintain a
balance of justice and treat all citizens equally. Of course this become an issue plenty of times when crimes start and the scapegoat of such crime
was a member of a small group, or vice, and the suspect is part of the small group. Assuming the victim were African American in a predominantly
White community, the example is, the police just might find themselves attack as not working as much to find the criminal. Looking at it from
another standpoint, if the criminal were guess to be Black, the police may be absolve for going out of their way to find him /her guilty. Now we all
should know that race is not the main or only issue when references to profiling, especially knowing about the 911 attacks (September 11, 2001).
Today, police officers have to proceed with caution in respect to religion, and make additional efforts to display they are not attacking specific religious
beliefs.
Now civil liability has become a consequential issue for police departments and their officers. Believe or not the civil lawsuit is one incorrect move

derived from the Greek god of wine Dionysus, perceives values through "the annihilation of the ordinary bounds and limits of existence" (517). The
Dionysian culture holds values that approve recklessness, glorification, states of emotional excess, and a general passion to break through the usual

"They valued all violent experience, all means by which human beings may break through the usual sensory routine, and to all such experiences they

fingers off and going without food and water for days were some of the things that the people of the Dionysian cultures did. Today, violence is a
major part of one society's existence. Gangs today rely very highly on violence for survival. Not only do they hurt the people outside of their gang, but
they also hurt those inside of it. In order to be "initiated" into the gang, one would have to suffer through the torturous beatings of his fellow gang
members. "...if he was seeking his vision by torture...someone had to go out with him to tie him to the pole from which he was to swing... his helper

Joughin in July 2016 and was recently sentenced to death (Lindstrom). These two quotes show that back in the 1840s you can get away with murder
but you can't get away with it today so that is why American Society has changed for the better in the theme of laws/justice. ... Show more content on

In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain on page 176, Huck and Aunt Sally are having a conversation, "'Good Gracious! Anybody

so racist they didn't even consider black people to be actual people but today black people are counted as real people and they're doing amazing
things. In 2016 the first black woman earned the rank of Brigadier General in the U.S. Marines (Leoni). These quotes obviously show that we as a

Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment
An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of today and the environment they/we live in. In my
focus particularly are societies of the Westernized parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and comprehensiveness
of the complexity of the environment they live and operate in. Consequently, my personal goal is to gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of
human activity and alterations it does to the environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values (towards the environment) are
passed from generations to generations. After successfully accomplishing studies, my goal is to collaborate with the representatives of the younger
generations to and promote awareness of their deportment on the more global scale. Academically, my strategy is to pursue Individualized Major in
Environment and Society and to successfully accomplish Minor in Psychology withal. Environment and Society as a traditional Major is offered at
the University of California, Berkley and at the University of Minnesota. To enhance the experience of the Individual Major, during the Junior and
Senior years at Emmanuel College, I aspire to attend Environmental Forum provided every spring by Colleges of Fenway. As a capstone experience I
foresee myself undergoing an internship in a locally based Education Outreach Program2. On this matter, I would like to accentuate that driven by my
interest I am

Dystopian Society Today
Imagine this... It is the 1960s. You live in city that seems like the perfect place to live and raise your ten children. This results from the fact that
plentiful food is provided for you and your family. There is no reason for fighting or scavenging or even to take care of your children. What's the
point of ensuring your offspring know the basic survival skills if they have everything they need to survive in this utopia. Of course they will always
have to worry about the roving bands of male bandits. Oh, and of course the slight chance their mother might decide to eat their children. The sheer
ridiculousness of this is something that could only be found in a 1980s action flick; However in the 1960s this dystopia was home to 150 rats The...

These two are absolutely necessary. The thing is that adults who are overweight/obese know these are good solutions. But as we develop habits
over a long time, they become harder to nip in the but. In another rodent themed experiment done by Duke university; Researchers fed sugar to mice

Utopian Society Today
For this project I decided to take an approach that outlines every bit of society today and transform that into what it would be like in the new utopian
world. I spent hours thinking through certain aspects of the society contemplating pros and cons at every turn. Every aspect of this utopia had
thought behind it and in truth that is the first step to creating a utopia. Society needs to slow down and think things through more often. The outline
of my Utopia that I created is created with knowledge of existing problems in our world. Yes, some aspects of the Utopia contain things we have
never seen in our present day, but adequate research has allowed me to make the world as realistic as possible. I know gladly welcome you to explore

Technology And Its Effect On Society Today
As you look to the left and then to the right it is almost inevitable that you are looking at some form of technology. Imagine living in the world without
the simple things that we overlook each and every day, things such as fire, and paper. Imagine the world without cars, TV, or the Internet. Most of us
could not envision what life would be like without the many inventions and advancements of technology because we have become so accustomed and
consumed by the modern technology all around us. With the inventions of simple technology made long ago, it has transformed the world we live in
today by making it fast paced and overall more advanced. Because of the popular use and huge advances in technology it has had both negative and
positive effects on society today. The thing that disconnects mankind from animals is the capability to use the mind for reason and conception. Reason
is the skill to be able to think, create, understand, and make judgments. Because of this skill, humans have the desire to formulate new technology. Over
the course of many thousands of years, the inventions of different technologies have been the building blocks for society today. Technology has molded
and shaped human history. Looking back on the past, people in the Stone Age did not have the extravagance of using the Internet, the enjoyment of
sitting down to watch TV, or simply popping dinner in the microwave. However, they did spend time trying to invent new things, as some do in the

Puritans ' Influence On Today 's Society
Today, people describe the Puritans with their biased point of view. It is not unfathomable why people do not like the Puritans. The Puritans'
society and today's society are very different. Puritan society was very restrained; people could only believe in God and the Bible was the law.
Unlike Puritan society, today's society does not restrain religion. Even though Puritans had bad influences on today's society, Puritans played a
pivotal role in constructing the USA. If you look around more carefully, you will easily realize that some things that you took for granted were
actually influenced by the Puritans, and they are very significant and necessary to today's society. The Puritans' influences on today's United States are
found in the areas of economy, government, education, church, and social mores. The Puritans' influences on the economy are very palpable. On the
US dollar you can clearly see the statement "In God we trust." Money is the most significant tool in an economy; therefore, a statement about God on
the money of the USA accentuates the Puritans' role in determining the economy of the United States. Today, people recommend frugality. Even
people like Bill Gates, Carlos Slim, and Warren Buffet do not use their money prodigally. Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, only has $100,000
car; Carlos Slim, the second richest man in the world is known for his stinginess – he even checks how much he spent for his socks; lastly, Warren

Bureaucracy In Todays Society
The Constitution is a plan to help the government help the people. There are many events that helped form the Constitution, but here are a few; Shay's

the United States, but we have since expanded. We have advanced technologically, we have a risk of an aristocracy, and the Constitution doesn't give

With the advances in technology more false information is spread to the public faster than it used to. Around the time the Constitution was

Stress is a killer. There is doubt that stress can cause health problems. Daily stressors lead into major health problems. Therefore if you can manage
your daily stress you can promote a healthier life. The American Medial Association defines stress, as being any disruptions of a person's mental and
physical well being. (4.) My position is that if you balance the stress in your life you can live healthier and prevent certain sicknesses. Not all stress is
bad for your body. It is good to have some stress in your life. However, too much stress in your life can be harmful. Stress seems to come mostly from

There are many ways to reduce or handle stress in your life. The easiest and one of the healthiest antidotes for stress is laughter. Just smiling helps
because it releases blood flow to the brain and endorphins are released. (4.) This gives a sense of well being. Some other simple techniques are doing
uninterrupted breathing. Another stressor is lack of sleep. Therefore break the stress–sleeplessness cycle. You can help relieve your sleep problem by
developing a daily sleep routine and don't drink alcohol or caffeine before bed. Another thing is to reserve your bedroom for sleeping and sex only.
(4.) Writing down your feeling in a diary may help relieve emotional stress. (4.) Time management is a major way to reduce stress. If you can keep a
schedule of the things you need to do and when you have to do them, this can open time for yourself. Try to focus on the important task and then do
the little things. (3.) Many stress experts suggest that you begin your fight against stress by defining your values. (4.) Don't think that everything has to

As Colin Powell put it wisely "A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work." Unfortunately though, it
seems that in America countless people have set aside the attributes of determination and hard work, and have taken up the unfortunate characteristic
of laziness and irresoluteness. In today's day and age, we have given ourselves over to a lack of dedication and determination contrary to those who

Stereotypes can be found anywhere you go or in what you watch. Some media tries to have hardly any stereotypes but, they are there just not obvious.
Though people are trying to get past the barrier of stereotypes, in many ways it seems almost impossible to remove it from the world.

Women as News Anchors Essay
Women As News Anchors
Women in all careers are striving to gain equality in the work force today, and female television news anchors are definitely part of the fight. The
road to television news anchoring is a rocky one, where only a few women survive and many fail. Where progress was once thought to have been
made, there aren't many females getting ahead in the world of television news. Today, there is a very slow, if any, gain in the numbers of women who
succeed. There are many questions surrounding the subject of women in television news, and I will attempt to answer relevant ones in this paper. How

This was relevant to my paper in answering the question of why there are certain expectations of women in television news. The textbook, Gender,
Race and Class in Media had a few chapters relevant to my paper. Larry Gross wrote a chapter titled, "Out of the
Mainstream: Sexual Minorities and Mass Media." He discussed various stereotypes in our society that lead to stereotypes in all areas of our lives. I
found some of my sources from Oasis, and also used a couple of magazine articles that were relevant to the subject. I focused on the questions that I
wanted to answer and drew points from the material that were relevant and provided substantial evidence to answer my questions. I found that
opinions and thoughts of women who had been through the business were most helpful. There was one big limitation I faced if I wanted to prove that
women in television news were discriminated upon based on sex and age. Women have been fired from theiranchor positions, and it has seemed that
the reasons were because of looks or aging. But this is hard to prove. In August, Carol
Schrader, a woman anchor from KETV–TV in Omaha, Nebraska was asked to leave.
She said that it was because of her age, although her bosses didn't say that was the reason, stating that she wasn't doing her job. She was replace by a
young, blond woman. Also, when Marlene Sanders was asked to leave ABC, instead of saying point–blank that she was too old, her boss told

1984 Society Today

Mrs. N. Finley
E209–R4–1984 Essay

Is 1984 really our view of society today? Society in the novel 1984 is unlike the 21st century because 1984 instilled a fear of retaliation in the
people for their actions. This is true in the perspective of the outer party and the proles of 1984 making sure they followed the laws of Big Brother.
However, in the 21st century everyone is treated equally and there aren't separations between the people wherein some are neglected and some are
valued. Although there are similarities in these societies, there are also numerous differences. The fear everyone has in 1984 is disparate from the 21st

as long as those actions do not breach their laws. Conversely, the administration of 1984 had full control of what their people do. The oppressive rule

The Ways Of Today 's Society
The ways of today's society are a trap to the common child. One cannot go out in public without seeing at least one child using some form of
technology. When most are used to seeing children playing in their front yards or on a playground as they once did, they have a sudden awakening
when they realize, most children are not like that anymore. Modern culture is a corruption to one's childhood and causes a child to be unsocial,
unhealthy, and constantly pressured to follow the newest trends in social media, however, certain TV shows and websites have been known to try and

Children are not able to develop the social skills that they are supposed to when they do not get out and play with other adolescents or even interact
with their own family. Because of the fact that kids are sitting inside for so long, they often become quite unhealthy. As someone sits there for a while,
they feel the urge to snack on foods. Most often, the foods they are snacking on are junk food. Since they are looking mindlessly at a screen, children
find themselves subconsciously eating. Junk food such as chips and candy can become addictive and it is difficult to stop eating once started. Not only
does the food they eat cause the children to be unhealthy, but they are also not getting out and being physically active. "Children's developing sensory,
motor, and attachment systems have biologically not evolved to accommodate this sedentary, yet frenzied and chaotic nature of today's technology.
Young children require 2–3 hours per day of active, rough and tumble play to achieve adequate sensory stimulation to their vestibular, proprioceptive
and tactile systems. Tactile stimulation received through touching, hugging and play is critical for the development of praxis, or planned movement

physical and mental development.

All these things add together like lack of jobs , poor education and health care meant that these areas became ghettos.
With these ghettos came crime. People couldn't get jobs and they still need to pay the bills and put food on the table. Selling and using of drugs
became a huge problem in these areas. Using and supplying of drugs became easer in the cite ghettos with the lack of police in the areas. And with
the drugs came crime. The situation was not helped when people could buy a news paper just as easy as a gun. Death by drugs and crime in these
areas were higher then any were else's in America. In the 1970s 30 per cent of America crimes were reported by six cites in America that only had 12
per cent of the total population of America. And these cites had large black ghettos and populations.
Much of the crime in America was drug related. This had a ripple effect on the ghettos law and order was not respect. People how became addicts
began robbing to pay for there habits. To make matters worse drug gangs started street battles over selling areas of the cites.
The governments tried tackle the issue by building urban house for the people of these ghettos. They failed hugely. The high rise apartments became

The Issues Facing Our Society Today
What is the role of the individual in helping to solve some of the problems we face in our society today? What are some of the problems we face in
our society today? In today's society we are currently facing ten major issues according to toptenz.net and should these problems be considered as
individual or social responsibilities? "Now that we are well into the new Millennium society has begun to recognize serious concerns with issues
that kids have to deal with today. Some issues have always been there but are now coming to the eyes of the public to find solutions. Other issues
are new trends as society begins to adapt to a faster pace of life (Standberry)." Here are some of the issues facing our youth today: single parent
households, drug/alcohol abuse, growing up to fast, and violence in schools, materialism, obesity, education disparity, shifting economy, and loss
of national pride. So how do we fix just one of these problems, do we come together for a common purpose or do we stand alone and try to make a
difference. This is a hard question to answer, and I believe that it takes society and individuals to fix what is crumbling in our society. However,
someone has to be willing to start. It is scary to think of what our world will be like in fifteen years, especially if you are a parent who worries if they
are providing their children with the moral standards, social growth, and economical opportunities that they could face in our society today. While it is

I chose assessment #10: Authenticity Scale (Biswas–Diener, 2010, p. 122) for my assessment. Between this current quarter and the last, I pushed
myself beyond limits on another section of the Appalachian Trail. On the morning of day number 3 out of 6, I snapped a selfie of myself as I
crested a ridge line on a bald (treeless ridge line with unlimited views). The photo was unique and looked manipulated with a filter due to the glare
from the sunrise burning through thin patches of fog spilling over the ridge as if the mountain was an airfoil. That photo is now my Facebook profile
picture and titled, "Nothing artificial." I have always pushed myself to be true and authentic in all I do. That does not mean being perfect, it means
being honest with myself.
Unfortunately, this strength of authenticity (i.e., the VIA strength of honesty is further defined as being authentic with integrity) facilitates a mindset
that does not tolerate others who are not. One of my other strengths (as tested in a spiritual gifts test) is discernment. I can usually tell when someone is
not being authentic. I strive to be authentic and I expect the same from others if they want me to trust them.

Amid Measles Outbreak, Anti–vaccine Doctor Revels in his Notoriety Terrence McCoy is a foreign affairs reporter for the Washington Post. On

Gender Inequality In The Media
Anderson Cooper. Don Lemon. Jake Tapper. Matt Lauer. These faces flash across our television screens, constantly crop up in our daily conversations,
and dominate the news and media. But wait, there's something missing from the list of names above– a group constituting nearly 51% of our
population– women("Women's Health USA 2012."). Scarce are mentions of successful female journalists. Scarce are women confidently voicing their
political opinions on reputable news channels. Scarce are truly powerful female journalists. In reality, this problem goes unnoticed by most– in fact,
despite being a news and politics aficionado, it didn't hit me until recently that women were so blatantly marginalized in this industry. It is perfectly
valid to question the relevancy of such an obscure issue, but obscurity does not equate to unimportance. Portraying women unequally in the media
defies not only our principles, but also the nation's principles. How can we claim that we are a nation of equal opportunity if we don't practice what
we preach? We must encourage women to increase their political awareness and take on leadership roles in the media, especially in covering the most
vital topics, because the underrepresentation of women in media encourages disparity between the sexes.
The problem of gender inequality in media has two main aspects– the shunning of women into petty, less important aspects of news and a clear lack of
women in leadership in media. According to a report on the

Impact Of Computers In Todays Society

  • 1. Impact of Computers in Todays Society The Impact Of Computers In Today's Society Tran Nguyen Professor Roman Dody CIS 105 13 December 2010 The Impact of Computers In Today's Society Computer, as the term is most commonly used, refers to the digital computer, an electronic device that makes lengthy or complicated calculations at high speeds and (except for certain small models) is also able to make decisions based on logic. A less common type ofcomputer is the analog computer. A digital computer forms the core of a data processing system. Data processing is, basically, the organization of information into a useful form by such processes as comparing, selecting, and arranging. A very simple example of data processing is alphabetizing a list of names.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In such sciences as physics, chemistry, and psychology, computers are used to monitor experiments and organize the results so that they can be interpreted more easily. In astronomy, computers perform the complicated calculations necessary for determining the orbits and relative positions of various heavenly bodies. In engineering, computers are used to help produce and evaluate the design of new products. Another use of computers is to control industrial processes. This form of control, a type of automation, has been applied to such processes as machining, oil refining, and the manufacture of chemicals. Another industrial use is to control robots used in assembly operations. Computers are essential for a variety of functions performed by government agencies. For example, computers are used by the National Weather Services for analyzing large amounts of weather data to make weather forecasts; by the Federal Aviation Administration for operating the complex equipment needed to direct air traffic; by the Internal Revenue Service for handling tax records; by the Census Bureau for compiling statistical data on the country's population; and by the military for communication, defense, and weapons systems. In the home, computers are used for a number of purposes. A popular used of home computers is for playing video games. They are also used to gain access by telephone ... • 2. The Impact Of Media On Society Today According to Dictionary.com, "media" is defined as "means of communication that reach and influence society or people widely." For instance, radios, televisions, newspapers, and magazines are forms of media. The influence the media has around the globe is profound, therefore, in this essay, I am going to discuss the impact that media has on the society today. Although social media can connect all people in the world instantly, the negative effects have a great impact on the society because it decreases the desire for actual communication. First and foremost, media has an impact on Change in Identity. In Miss Representation video, it is said that "53% of 13 year old girls are unhappy with their bodies. And that number increases by 75% at 17 years old. And 65% in women and girls with anorexia" This is very true because in teen magazines and beauty pageant shows, women are portrayed as "skinny". Women and girls with weight problems like obesity, are going to feel less worthy and ashamed of their physical appearances. This causes them to be depressed which can lead to suicidal attempts because they learn to accept that the society only wants skinny ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Violence in Todays Society Lisa M. Allen Enc 1101 September 14, 2008 Today's Violence and Its Many Causes Violence in today's society is at an all time high. There are many causes for the increase in violence in our society. Violence is defined by (1) criminal law, the illegal use of unjustified force, or the intimidating effect created by the threat of this (2) the use of physical force to injure somebody or damage something (Encarta Dictionary: English – North American Version). Rape, homicide, assault and burglary with a weapon are all forms of malicious legal violence that plague our communities in irrevocable ways. In fact violence in the form of homicide is the second leading cause in youth ages fifteen to twenty–four, third leading cause in ages ... Since the 1950s, thousands of studies have been done on the effects of violence in television and movies. The majority of these studies conclude that: children who watch significant amounts of television and movie violence are more likely to exhibit aggressive behavior, attitudes and values (Illinois Center for Violence Prevention. Media and The Changing World Report. May 2005. Page 12). Per the Congressional Public Health Summit, 2000, young children 1.) are more easily impressionable 2.) have a harder time distinguishing between fantasy and reality 3.) cannot easily discern motives for violence and 4.) learn by observing and imitating. Finally there are plenty of studies going on right now researching how violent video games can cause people to have more aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors; and decrease empathetic, helpful behaviors with peers. With the over stimulation of the brain, it requires children to go above and beyond the last experience in order to feel the same endorphins. With the need to out do the next guy and with the motto "if it bleeds, it leads", then what do we expect for the next generation of youth to be faced with? In generation Y we are seeing a major increase in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Technolgy and American Societies Today Technology has taken an overwhelming presence within American societies today. Careers, education, volunteering, advertising and now even fundraising can be done solely from one's computer. With this relatively new trend, companies must take advantage of the time clients spend online to further their own organizations. There are three simple techniques that companies should utilize and implement to profit from the new technological era. The process of affiliate marketing is extremely important for publicity and fundraising. This is when an organization directs traffic from its own website to a different organization's website in order to promote a product, good or service of that organization's with the promise of receiving a percentage of the proceeds in return. Companies can profit significantly from this process if used correctly and partnered with the right organizations. Many popular companies participate in affiliate marketing, such as Amazon, local grocery stores, sporting goods stores, etc. It does not cost anything to establish an affiliate marketing relationship with a company, but can have exponential rewards. The concept of online donating and memberships is an excellent way companies can benefit from the Web. Asking face–to–face for money can make both the asker and the potential giver uncomfortable, and with the wrong atmosphere laid, it can cost an organization a substantial donation. The opportunity to donate online provides clients with a private, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects Of Authority On The Society Today ABUSIVE AUTHORITY America consists of many authorized positions of authority. Such titles consist of Politicians, Lawyers, Doctors, Law Officials etc.–––– including our former and past candidates of presidency. These Political figures are expected to guardianship the well–being of the citizens in our country. Their "means of interest" in the people of our country is now being exposed for liberation, freedom and truth in which it is properly due to all men and women that are created equally. This essay will explore how abuse of authority impacts upon individual freedom in our society today. If we examine the first impact of abusive authority, we will find that moral standards are today, at its lowest percentile. It is fair to say that America has lost itsmorality . No longer are we conservative or discreet. Yet, we are outspoken and boastfully filled with pride and our very own alto ego; living for self. No longer are we caring or outreaching. Yet and still, we build a wall. For example, there are many obscurities that can be easily witnessed while watching American television. Whereas, many actors are now shown at their least of clothing or somewhat nudity in the midst of primetime broadcasting. What happened to broadcasting services only allowing such nature of television that is shown at a specific time during the night? Has the media authority taken advantage of our innocence, our kids innocence? Maybe! Another example, there have been many shootings and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The crimes rate in my hometown is increasing every day and it is sad. There have been times when I have ask myself why is the crimes rate so uncontrollable in Memphis and also around the world. Culture doesn't have just one meaning, they vary depending on where you live, how you live, how you been taught, religion, language and many others. These are just some of the factors of that create the diversification of specific types of culture, that we all have to adapt too even if you look at individualism and collectivism. Businesses of today, also have to change the way they operate, to suit and operate effectively depending on where they want to situate themselves, otherwise problems could arise Culture can be recognised for nor right or wrong in today's society. We've become as a human race influenced by various avenues and ideas of how things should be done. We all have an ideology that the society we have been bought up is the correct fashion of which others should follow suit, but that not the case in some instances. Culture is the shared values of beliefs, values and normality of how people and businesses should act on in the environment of which we are surrounded by. This doesn't mean as an individual one has to follow but in some cases as a sign of respect you'll just have too. Culture may not be right or wrong but just a matter of opinion, not truth. Society changes all the time, when society changes the culture does too. 10 years ago the culture of which we live in used to be completely different. • 10. The Impact Of Technology On Society Today There is no doubt that technology plays a big role in society today. Whether people like it or not, one thing is definite: technology is not going anywhere. Having grown up in the midst of the digital revolution, technology was going to be a part of my life, and it most definitely has. No matter if it is the Internet, computers, cell phones, tablets, video games; I have been exposed to all of them. However, of all the pieces of technology I have used, the one I cannot live without would have to be my laptop. This year has opened my eyes to how important it is to have a nice laptop. Whether I am taking notes in class, doing research online, typing a paper, surfing the web, or Skyping my family back home, I am always using my laptop. Sure, I still use my cell phone a lot, but I honestly do not use social media on it as I used to. So really the main purposes for my cell phone are what they should be for; making phone calls and sending texts. If I did not have a laptop, it would make going to school more challenging, I would spend much more time at the library using their computers and could not enjoy lying in bed watching my favorite show on Netflix. Of course I could handle not having a laptop. However, after completing my first year away at school, my eyes have been opened to the importance of having one, and I have seen how dependent I am on mine. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Sexual Harassment Sexual harassment accusations regarding public figures has been one of the most popular news we see on social media these days. "Sexual harassment becomes a crime only when there is a nonconsensual touching or sexual contact that can be prosecuted." (Henning, 2017). Some of the accused individuals are admitting their guilt in some of these situations, while many are denying these allegations, particularly those that occurred decades ago. In many of the instances, money and other valuable considerations are being used to get documents signed that swore the party marking the claim to silence regarding the matter, or pay back the money with interest. This probably because it is much easier and cheaper to pay someone off than to fight this slander/libel in court. The most recently talked about news of sexual harassment was about Harvey Weinstein, an American Film producer and former film executive. At the beginning of October this year, many women came forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment andrape including, by Rose McGowan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashley Judd and many others. The humiliated producer had been fired from his company and Manhattan district attorney is currently seeking indictment against him. • 12. Impact Of Technology On Society Today Impact of Technology on Society Throughout history, our ingenuity has provided us with a resource in which our society has become greatly dependent on. Coal, a solid stone like fossil fuel, has been found to be useful in many different ways like refining materials, use of it 's by–products and heat, but coal has been mainly used as a source of energy used to power machinery and produce electricity. It is the resource that powered the machines responsible for the industrial revolution nearly two hundred and fifty years ago, and sparked the birth of what society as we know it. This paper will discuss the history of coal and the role it plays in creating the building blocks for modern society, including the early uses of coal, leading to today 's use for coal, the adverse effects and how it has become a resource in which the world has become dependent on. Firstly, what is coal? Coal is a sedimentary rock which has a high percentage of carbon along with various other elements which make this rock piratically combustible. Considered as a fossil fuel, coal is formed by dead plant matter, that accumulates over a very long period of time, which converts into peat and accumulates making peat bogs. This peat is converted through biological and geological processes that takes a very long time to complete. It can take up to one hundred thousand years for a substantial amount of peat to gather and transform into coal. There are different stages to the formation of coal. As ... • 13. The Censorship Of Singapore ( Mda ) The practise of censorship – the restriction of ideas, action or image through the control of the media or any other medium of expression. Censorship should be practised sensibly so that it will not restrict the development and expression of new ideas while ensuring that social and political harmony is assured. Censorship plays a vital role in maintaining the morals of its society and creating an economically dynamic, socially cohesive and culturally vibrant nation. (N.A, N.D) The press exert a significant influence on the public and is partly responsible for the views and values that many hold. Hence, it should be responsible with what it put forth to the public. Singapore has gradually moved from film censorship to film classification and now to the focus on media literacy. Media Authority of Singapore (MDA) plays a significant role in regulating and conducting matters pertaining to the media. It is guided by legislation/acts such as Media Development Authority of Singapore Act, code of practice and guideline to comply and enforce the entities. In this term paper, we will discuss how the media handle censorship and classification related matters as well as reviewing the Films Appeal Committee under the films act policy. • 14. Issues Influencing The Society Today There are numerous issues influencing the society today. In fact, it is quite shocking that they keep on increasing as time goes by. Moreover, most of these social issues are perpetuated through the people's strive for superiority. For instance, racism keeps on escalating due to the fact that some races want to prove their dominance over the rest. Consequently, the parties involved in such scenarios end up being either the victim or perpetrator. Charlotte Perkins Gilman illustrates the state of the society; whereby gender inequality has become the new normal. In her analysis, the society has become degraded to a point that the men are superior, actually too superior over the women. This has been evident through some of the roles allocated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In point of fact, women have to endure and overcome a lot of obstacles so as to achieve what men have managed to without struggle. Inequality is not only exhibited through the roles allocated to them, but also in payment, an act which has led to the emanation of the gender wage gap. These issues have also escalated in religion. Religiously inspired gender inequality is usually manifested through the privileges and opportunities which are granted based on an individual's gender. Specifically, gender inequality has been made apparent in religion through the gendered institutions, gendered identities, gendered interactions, and gender ideologies. Patriarchal church leaderships are clear signs of how deep gender inequality has been integrated into religion (Shepard 413). Women are given less leadership roles compared to men, and sometimes are not even considered at all in any decision making process. Such acts are clear indicators of how gender inequality is negatively affecting the society. Actually, it is quite saddening that even the most respected aspects of the society (such as religion) are participating in these 'tainted' acts. Religion is meant to enforce religious–based norms and morals, and in fact, it should be rock–steady in the fight against gender equality. Thus, as per Gilman's analysis, the human society in general has been tarnished through gender related issues. Most women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They find do not get to voice their opinions and they receive unequal treatment. In the current generation, it is a sad fact that money controls not only people but even the government. Intellect crosses class lines, and the government needs to know that. Belonging to a bourgeois family myself, I have dealt with the struggle of voicing my opinions and have actively tried to make change. If our homeland continues down this path of misrepresentation, there may perhaps be great deal of consequences our country will have to face. Our nation was built on a set of standards only to be tarnished by the corrupt ways of our administration. These ways in which the rich are favored due to the simple fact that they have money in their possession. The poor have ideas, thoughts, and feelings, too. The middle class has much of the same. It is basic human rights to be listened to and appreciated. A prodigious deal of grief must be felt for the public who just stand idle knowing that they can, in mass numbers, have their "invisibility" removed. Seeing the number of struggles through our society, we need to reflect on errors made throughout history to insure that we do not repeat those mistakes. Rainforest are cut down, habits are destroyed, global warming increases, waste and toxic gases have increased, animals are killed, and people are displaced. The people in marginalized communities and third world countries are the ones that are affected the most. People are employed in horrible conditions, and paid horrendous salaries by these huge corporations profiting on the exploitation of these people, while profiting tremendously from the boom in consumer goods. Not only have people of western societies but people around the world are craving and desiring consumer goods. What is being consumed at an alarming rate is technology. Religion in Todays Society Religion has affected the human in many ways; rules, traditions, culture patterns, morality, etc. The most powerful and important role that religion plays is that how it controls the human. I believe that religion has created conflicts between people including whole countries. Religion has the societal effect of dividing people into "us" and "them". This unfortunately has the same characteristics as any other form of discrimination, such a as racialism. Then, it would come very easy to consider "us" as the righteous and "them" as unrighteous. With the above history, it is quite easy to see where there would be a need for separation of church and state. While the early colonists were in part coming here to create a better life for themselves they unfortunately brought with them the ideals of oppression and enacted them in their local townships. • 19. The Importance Of Respect In Society Today We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don't know exactly what it means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself worthy of your admiration or approval. Society cannot function without respect because it is the oil that keeps the gears turning. Respect is actively listening, obeying orders, and being mindful, whether it's to others, the environment, the law, or yourself. In today's society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in public with racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more. Racism and police brutality have increased since cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray.People of color have not received the respect they deserve and respect for policemen is decreasing. Sexism has increased since third–wave feminists surfaced and skewed people's image and respect for feminists. Religious intolerance increases as terrorist attacks continue with people's misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group lacking respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn't anywhere near as respectful to their parents, teachers, or elders as they were before the nineteen–hundreds. But to make the youth more respectful, one must respect the youth. Assuming the victim were African American in a predominantly White community, the example is, the police just might find themselves attack as not working as much to find the criminal. Looking at it from another standpoint, if the criminal were guess to be Black, the police may be absolve for going out of their way to find him /her guilty. These elements, however, are not of a movie, but of the past of a society. "The Pueblos of New Mexico", an essay written by Ruth Benedict talks of these different societies. Dionysian, derived from the Greek god of wine Dionysus, perceives values through "the annihilation of the ordinary bounds and limits of existence" (517). The Dionysian culture holds values that approve recklessness, glorification, states of emotional excess, and a general passion to break through the usual routine of everyday life. Dionysian cultures did many horrifying things to themselves. Cutting strips of skin off of their arms, cutting fingers off and going without food and water for days were some of the things that the people of the Dionysian cultures did. Today, violence is a major part of one society's existence. Gangs today rely very highly on violence for survival. Not only do they hurt the people outside of their gang, but they also hurt those inside of it. In order to be "initiated" into the gang, one would have to suffer through the torturous beatings of his fellow gang members. "...if he was seeking his vision by torture...someone had to go out with him to tie him to the pole from which he was to swing... his helper did his part and left him alone for his ordeal." This resembles the rituals of the gangs. The gang members recruit the new members in, and lead him before the rest of the gang, and then leave him alone for his ordeal. Drugs and alcohol are a huge part in the lifestyles of the Dionysians. The experiences that they wanted were "...often sought openly by means of drugs and alcohol." • 23. American Society Compared To Today This essay is about American Society and how it has changed from the 1840s compared to today. It will have examples from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and compare them to modern news story that have happened within the past 5 years. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain is a book critiquing American Society back in the 1840s. American Society has changed for the better since the 1840s, specifically the themes of laws/justice, racism and scams/cons. I think that the theme of laws/justice has changed for the better since the 1840s. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain on page 91, the Shepherdsons get revenge on Buck for trying to kill Harney Shepherdson and they gang up on Buck and shoot him dead. Nothing happened to the Shepherdsons that killed Buck but nowadays you can't murder someone and not get punished for it. James Worley kidnapped and killed Sierah Joughin in July 2016 and was recently sentenced to death (Lindstrom). These two quotes show that back in the 1840s you can get away with murder but you can't get away with it today so that is why American Society has changed for the better in the theme of laws/justice. ... If you look around more carefully, you will easily realize that some things that you took for granted were actually influenced by the Puritans, and they are very significant and necessary to today's society. All these things add together like lack of jobs , poor education and health care meant that these areas became ghettos. With these ghettos came crime. People couldn't get jobs and they still need to pay the bills and put food on the table. Selling and using of drugs became a huge problem in these areas. Using and supplying of drugs became easer in the cite ghettos with the lack of police in the areas. And with the drugs came crime. The situation was not helped when people could buy a news paper just as easy as a gun. Death by drugs and crime in these areas were higher then any were else's in America. In the 1970s 30 per cent of America crimes were reported by six cites in America that only had 12 per cent of the total population of America. And these cites had large black ghettos and populations. Much of the crime in America was drug related. This had a ripple effect on the ghettos law and order was not respect. People how became addicts began robbing to pay for there habits. To make matters worse drug gangs started street battles over selling areas of the cites. The governments tried tackle the issue by building urban house for the people of these ghettos. • 39. The Issues Facing Our Society Today What is the role of the individual in helping to solve some of the problems we face in our society today? What are some of the problems we face in our society today? In today's society we are currently facing ten major issues according to toptenz.net and should these problems be considered as individual or social responsibilities? "Now that we are well into the new Millennium society has begun to recognize serious concerns with issues that kids have to deal with today. Some issues have always been there but are now coming to the eyes of the public to find solutions. Other issues are new trends as society begins to adapt to a faster pace of life (Standberry)." Here are some of the issues facing our youth today: single parent households, drug/alcohol abuse, growing up to fast, and violence in schools, materialism, obesity, education disparity, shifting economy, and loss of national pride. So how do we fix just one of these problems, do we come together for a common purpose or do we stand alone and try to make a difference. This is a hard question to answer, and I believe that it takes society and individuals to fix what is crumbling in our society. However, someone has to be willing to start. It is scary to think of what our world will be like in fifteen years, especially if you are a parent who worries if they are providing their children with the moral standards, social growth, and economical opportunities that they could face in our society today. • 40. Reflection Paper I chose assessment #10: Authenticity Scale (Biswas–Diener, 2010, p. 122) for my assessment. Between this current quarter and the last, I pushed myself beyond limits on another section of the Appalachian Trail. On the morning of day number 3 out of 6, I snapped a selfie of myself as I crested a ridge line on a bald (treeless ridge line with unlimited views). The photo was unique and looked manipulated with a filter due to the glare from the sunrise burning through thin patches of fog spilling over the ridge as if the mountain was an airfoil. That photo is now my Facebook profile picture and titled, "Nothing artificial." I have always pushed myself to be true and authentic in all I do. That does not mean being perfect, it means being honest with myself. Unfortunately, this strength of authenticity (i.e., the VIA strength of honesty is further defined as being authentic with integrity) facilitates a mindset that does not tolerate others who are not. One of my other strengths (as tested in a spiritual gifts test) is discernment. I can usually tell when someone is not being authentic. I strive to be authentic and I expect the same from others if they want me to trust them. The news is full of stories of a lack thereof in this strength of being authentic. Yesterday,Matt Lauer was fired from NBC for misconduct outside the scope of this discussion. He most likely had been posing for years. Posing is to affect an attitude or character to deceive or impress. My ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Summary Of Amid Measles Outbreak Amid Measles Outbreak, Anti–vaccine Doctor Revels in his Notoriety Terrence McCoy is a foreign affairs reporter for the Washington Post. On January 30th, McCoy published a telephone interview with Dr. Jack Wolfson about the anti–immunization controversy. Dr. Wolfson is a cardiologist who now does holistic medicine and supports the anti–immunization movement. According to WebMd.com, "holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and emotions, in the quest for optimal health and wellness". In his interview Dr. Wolfson called "bad mothers" who vaccinate their children without knowing or caring about what chemicals are in them. According to Dr. Wolfson, we should let children have measles, chicken pox, rubella, mumps because "these are the rights of our children to get it." When I read this phrase, I asked myself, should we let our kids be in pain and suffer for something that we can prevent?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wolfson stated in his interview "Measles is not a big deal." Measles outbreak in the United States has increased tremendously since parents refuse to have their children vaccinated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published a report, "Measles Cases and Outbreaks," that shows how the measles cases have been increase nationwide. This controversy started when "The Lancet" published a research made by Dr. Andrew Wakefield, who suggested the vaccine can cause autism. After investigation the British medical journal published an article criticizing Dr.Wakefield and accusing him of fraud. As a result "The Lancet" retracted the research. The dishonest research and violation of ethic caused Dr. Wakefield to lose his medical license. However, Dr. Wakefield's research made a big impact in the way some American parents view vaccines. These parents now refuse to have their children vaccinate and blame the vaccine for their developmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Gender Inequality In The Media Anderson Cooper. Don Lemon. Jake Tapper. Matt Lauer. These faces flash across our television screens, constantly crop up in our daily conversations, and dominate the news and media. But wait, there's something missing from the list of names above– a group constituting nearly 51% of our population– women("Women's Health USA 2012."). Scarce are mentions of successful female journalists. Scarce are women confidently voicing their political opinions on reputable news channels. Scarce are truly powerful female journalists. In reality, this problem goes unnoticed by most– in fact, despite being a news and politics aficionado, it didn't hit me until recently that women were so blatantly marginalized in this industry. It is perfectly valid to question the relevancy of such an obscure issue, but obscurity does not equate to unimportance. Portraying women unequally in the media defies not only our principles, but also the nation's principles. How can we claim that we are a nation of equal opportunity if we don't practice what we preach? We must encourage women to increase their political awareness and take on leadership roles in the media, especially in covering the most vital topics, because the underrepresentation of women in media encourages disparity between the sexes. The problem of gender inequality in media has two main aspects– the shunning of women into petty, less important aspects of news and a clear lack of women in leadership in media.
