Personalisation of Education by AI and Big Data - Lourdes Guàrdia
Evaluation 1
1. In what ways does your media
product develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media?
2. Colour and Lighting
music videos from this genre tend to use dark and warm colours such as
black, grey and brown with low key lighting to increase the intimacy of
the video. Eg. Benjamin Clementine’s ‘Condolence’ and Sampha ‘Like
the Piano’
3. Colour and lighting in Our Product
• We subverted this convention in our music video, instead we chose to
film in high-key lighting and locations that were colourful e.g. The
park, cornershop and the busking locations
4. Goodwin’s theory of Star Image
Most artist from the genre place themselves as the focus of the video because they want to draw
attention the music and the lyrics of the video as they put a lot of effort into the meaning behind
the music and the words. This is usually done through single mid shots of the artist, Anne Leone is
a great example of this in her song ‘My Soul I’ or performance shots of a band or the artist such as
Leon Bridges ‘Better Man’.
5. Star Image in Our Product
• We conformed to the convention of star image in our production by
having both single shots of the artist as well as performance shots
6. Editing
• Within the genre videos usually have slow paced editing with more
long shots, this is to make the visuals align with the tempo of the
song. It also gives audiences time to take in the visuals of either the
artist or the narrative, this way they have time to provoke emotion or
for the narrative to develop. Leon Bridges ‘River’ is a great example of
this.
7. Our Product
• We wanted to subvert this convention because the pace of our song
was more upbeat and we were trying to implement a positive
narrative so we decides to include applied fast paced editing more
towards the end when the mood of the narrative improved and the
shot duration decreased.
• [B&Q montage] vs. [car wash montage]
