1. The genre of my music magazine is hip hop and rap. I
want to cover stories about the well-known rap
artists like ASAP Rocky and Kanye West but also to
show the mainstream hip-hop singers like Chris
Brown and Rihanna.
I want to show the side of the singers that no
one gets to see. For example, cover stories that
wouldn’t normally be associated with these
types of celebrities. My main goal is to change
people’s view of rappers and hip hop singer
but mainly rappers because historically they
have been stereotyped to be bad people who
rap about drugs, sex and guns.
2. The title of my magazine is ‘GOLDIE’, I have chosen
this because it is a name of a well-known single by
ASAP Rocky but this isn’t all. Gold is associated
with being number one and being the best so I
want my magazine to be known as the best
because it is ‘Gold Standard’.
A further reason why I
have chosen to call it
‘GOLDIE’ is because
recently gold has been
used by a lot of rappers
and singers to represent
their achievements and
power in the rap
industry.
3. The ideal target audience for my magazine are teenagers leaving school all
the way up to young adults in university. Rap music is known to appeal more
to boys because of its aggressive nature but girls will also be able to relate
to the stories and artists in the magazine. In terms of economic scale, the
target audience are people who live a regular and normal day to day
lifestyle with and average income. A typical person who would read my
magazine would be someone who is interested in fashion and good music
that he/she can relate to.
For example, a student studying fashion
and media at a university or college
would be an ideal target audience. To fit
the target audience best, the magazine
will be fairly low in price. At a fee of £1.99
my magazine will be published every
fortnight. This gives the person a lengthy
time to raise the small amount of money
required for the magazine.
4. I have created this magazine because obviously
I am interested in the type of music I am
basing my magazine on. However, from my
point of view, artists are unfairly judged on the
music they produce and not by the person
who they actually are.
I wanted to make this magazine to be able to
present the artists in a way that no one has
really seen before.
5. A typical page or article in my
magazine would consist of an artist’s
latest song or album but also about a
story that no one would really know
about. ASAP Rocky is rapper and that’s
what he is known for but there are
other things that he does that would
surprise some people. For example, he
directs music videos for other singers
including hip hop artists and he is also
heavily involved in the fashion
industry.
6. I want to present the idea that being an artist
isn’t all fun and games as it seems in some
music videos. It takes hard work and requires
long hours to get a song published. My main
idea is that I want to put forward is that these
rappers and singers are barely that different to
us. They just live a different lifestyle that
happened to be a bit more extravagant than
the average one. However, they are still a
normal people with great
ideas, visions, hardworking ethics that are
found in normal people like me and you.
Remember, most rappers and singers came up
from the lower class with hardly any money. In
order to attract the audience I will cover a
story that is weird, wacky and interesting at
the same time. Also, I will include a free poster
of a certain artist that everyone loves.
