1. Media Avatars and there Annotations
This Male avatar saw the first ever Star Wars movie when it
was first released in cinemas in 1977 and has been a dedicated
fan ever since even though he is an adult now he still
maintains his love, passion and excitement for the franchise.
This avatar leads a fairly busy life with children to look after
and a company to work for. On his days off he is looking after
his children entertaining them by taking them out on day trips
and to the cinema. He is eager to introduce his children to the
Star Wars franchise and what better time to do it when a new
trilogy is coming to cinemas. It also gives him the opportunity
(excuse) to see it for himself!
This Female Avatar watched the first star wars in 1977 along
with her family. Now she has her own family she would like
to do the same with hers. What better way to keep her kids
entertained (Diversion) than to watch a movie filled with
adventure and action. It also keeps her and her children
occupied this follows the uses and gratifications theory of
“Escapism” (Personal relationship)
Here is the older generation there are (in personal opinion) the most vital mass audience for
the progression and success ofthe new star wars movies. This audience is both important
for the Frankfurt theory and 2 step flow theory. The reason for this is that the older
generation count as opinion leaders they get there opinion out to others who may not have
heard or seen about it. For example “you need to see star wars its brilliant!” this is a great
marketing advantage for Disney as this theory will occuron the younger generation. Maybe
parents telling their children how good the old star wars franchise was and how they need
the see the new trilogy.
2. This Female girl avatar has never seen a star wars
film and like all her friends they believe it is not a
film for them. However seeing it after some of her
friends (boys)said how good it was has made her
really enjoy the franchise. Although the genre was
not her thing the storyline and the ending of the
force awakens has made her very excited for the
next one. This audience is up and coming fans of
the franchise and now that she has seen the newest
one she may now watch the previous movies.
This Male Boy loves star wars ever since his dad got him
into the franchisewhen he was younger hehas been a
dedicated fan. His room at home is littered with star
wars accessories from star wars T-shirts and clothing to
mini figures and star wars video games. This audience is
the mostvital for profits in the consumer products
category. This audience is also important as they are the
up and coming older audience. So when these young
people havechildren of their own they will do the same
as their parents have done and introduce them to the
love of star wars.
This is the younger audience there are a very important mass audience as they are young and the
franchiseappeals to their age range. They arealso a great advantage to advertising as they can
persuadethere friends to watch the movies which increases the popularity of the franchisewhich
leads to more profit. Parents use the movies as a way to occupy their children
(diversion/entertainment) this audience also assistin the two step flow theory developed by
Larzefield and Katz. This theory’s suggests thatsomeone passes information as well as their
opinion for example. This show you haveto watch it it’s amazing” tis will then get passed to the
“second opinion leaders” who pass along this interpretation to others.
