Note
s COVID-19 reached Europe, Spain became one of
Athe worst-hit places early in 2020. This put lot of
pressure on the three-layered, decentralized
Spanish healthcare system. At one point in time, there were
lots of concerns raised in the local as well as the global
community about the scarce resources – from the local
healthcare center's stockpile of medical equipment, number
of frontline workers, doctors, and staff, to the number of
hospitals, clinics and available beds. However, the major
cause of community morale-boosting was due to the
immediate response from the most prominent healthcare
companies in Spain.
These companies, faced with a severe healthcare crisis
situation, rose to the occasion, stepped in immediately to
tackle it, and used their agility, swiftness, expertise,
strengths, and human-centric collaborative approach to
significantly address all the problems, issues, and
challenges from the front.

12. In any industry, the organizations succeed when they
build trust and create customer value with every
interaction. Professionalism and a strategic focus play
a pivotal role in driving the organization's success to greater
heights by achieving extraordinary results.
Innovative pharmaceutical organizations that adopt a
customer focus can gain an enormous advantage with new
approaches to research and development, ensuring a robust
portfolio of the perfect products are more likely to excel.
This is where Uriach comes into the spotlight as one of the
prominent companies in the health and pharmaceutical
sector.
Uriach is guided by and focused on its mission and
values—Unity, Resonance, Intensity, Ambition, Confidence,
and History. These pillars help the organization be
consistent and purposeful in everything it does.
Its purpose is clear: Uriach believes in the power of nature,
enhanced by science, as the best way to improve human
health and wellbeing, and the most sustainable too. Uriach
wants to have a positive impact both on people´s life and
the planet.
Under the coherent leadership of its CEO, Oriol Segarra,
Uriach has a great window of opportunity to become a
European leader in the natural healthcare field over the next
few years, combining its strengths with the clear market
opportunity that is emerging to become globally relevant in
this business segment.
Setting Benchmarks
Uriach's story began in 1838 and had five chapters, one for
each generation of the Uriach family. Over the past 10
years, Uriach has been growing within the Consumer
Healthcare sector (food supplements, over the counter
healthcare products manufactured by means of private
funds). And finally, in 2021, Uriach sold its B2B Pharma
business to completely focus its activities on its Natural
Consumer Healthcare sector, which manufactures highly
innovative products based on scientific research and using
natural ingredients.
Today, Uriach has over 850 collaborators. Its subsidiaries in
Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Austria and Switzerland,
the organization has a joint-venture agreement with local
companies in Greece and Romania and sells its products in
over 20 other countries on top of this. This means Uriach
have brands that are already being sold in many European
countries and which are therefore starting to go global.
Uriach has been registering double-digit growth for the past
ten years, thanks to its adaptability and development of
cutting-edge products that highlight its commitment to
society.
The secret to Uriach's successful evolution and
transformation is based on five pillars: professionalism,
strategic focus, growth and profitability, internationalisation
and, last but by no means least, a unique corporate culture
focused on all of our collaborators being passionate about
what they do and giving their all, so that we achieve
extraordinary results time and time again.
A Coherent Leadership
Oriol Segarra joined Uriach in 2012. Counting with the
trust of the shareholders and board members from day one,
he built a fantastic team which has helped the organization
enormously.
As he led the company forwards in its transformation over
the last few years: a transformation of which, as a team,
Uriach is very proud of indeed. It has been an extraordinary
Uriach's vision is
to lead the way in the
"Natural CHC" segment in
Europe to be the most innovative
company in this sector, with the
best brands and the widest
geographical footprint on
its continent.
13. journey during which Oriol and so many others in this great
family have lived the best years of their professional life so
far.
For Oriol, helping both people and the planet is extremely
important on a personal and professional level. Uriach is
experiencing a global trend in which consumers are viewing
healthcare in a whole new light. They want the ways in
which they care for their health to be holistic, sustainable
and natural, with a greater focus on prevention.
Incorporating Exceptional Attributes
Uriach wants to have a positive impact both on people's
lives and on the planet. This is why its mission is to guide,
facilitate and empower consumers in their transition
towards a new, more natural way of improving their life,
health and wellbeing, offering them the very best natural
health solutions, empowering consumers and
communicating with them through experts and prescribers
on both a direct and indirect basis.
Uriach's vision is to lead the way in the 'Natural CHC'
segment in Europe to be the most innovative company in
this sector, with the best brands and the widest geographical
footprint on its continent. Uriach's revenue and EBITDA
targets are to double its current levels through a
combination of organic and inorganic growth.
Enabling an era of Continual Novelties
Uriach is a house of brands: brands are our main asset and,
along with innovation, form the backbone of our business.
Its mission is to build strong global brands (European for
now), with the consumer at the heart of its strategy.
Uriach's brands are positioned in several consumer
categories and segments with different brand architectures.
Still, all share the same DNA: the very best formulations
and the most natural ingredients possible, all powered by
science and innovation.
Spain's Top 10 Companies Booming in Healthcare Sector 2022
14. Noteworthy brands in its portfolio include:
Ÿ Aquilea (A leading Spanish brand of highly innovative
food supplements focused on consumers and
pharmacies).
Ÿ Fisiocrem (Muscle preparation and recovery as well as
joint pain treatment to take care of your physical
wellbeing so you can live the lifestyle you want).
Ÿ Laborest (A leading brand in Italy in the segment for
highly sophisticated food supplements which are sold
through medical consultations).
Aquilea, Fisiocrem and Laborest are already global brands,
present in various European countries, with an annual
turnover of over €50m.
Uriach's portfolio of leading brands in its various local
markets:
Ÿ Depuralina (leading weight-loss brand in Portugal)
Ÿ Sidroga (leading medicinal tea brand in Germany and
Switzerland),
Ÿ and Biodramina, Aerored, Fave de Fuca, Halibut, etc., in
Spain.
Uriach never stops focusing on innovation. The
organization wants to set the standards in its industry, not
only because it has the best product portfolio (as proven by
several awards over the last few years, such as "Premio
Nutra Ingredients," "Product of the year" etc.), but also
because of its innovative mindset.
For Uriach, innovation is about new ways of being as well
as new ways of doing. It is part of its culture; it is in the
DNA of each and every one of Uriach's collaborators.
Embracing the Future Roadmap
Uriach has consolidated its strategic positioning in the
Natural Consumer Healthcare segment and completed the
professionalisation of the family business. In 2021, the
Owners Council decided to nominate Luís Cantarell as
President of the Board of Directors and as the first President
external to the owner family.
This process was initiated by the Uriach family in 2012
when the decision was taken to incorporate a new CEO
external to the family for the day-to-day management of the
business. Uriach has launched a new strategic plan for up to
2025, which outlines its vission to become the European
leader in Natural CHC.
One way in which Uriach will reach its goal is by
increasing our direct presence on the continent. Its
internationalisation process began in 2015 when the
organization acquired the Italian company Laborest
(followed by AR Fitofarma and Progine in 2019).
In 2018, Uriach acquired Theralab in Portugal, and in 2021,
it took over the German company Sidroga to secure its
presence in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and
Switzerland). In a nutshell, Uriach currently has a direct
presence in eight of the main European markets through six
subsidiaries and two joint-venture agreements (Greece and
Romania).
Uriach has set the target of increasing its direct presence in
several new European markets. One of its priority
objectives is an expansion in France, the Nordic countries
or several relevant markets in Eastern Europe. Bolstering its
"Rest of the World (ROW)" business forms another key
component of its international expansion plan. It refers to
markets in which Uriach operates through strategic partners
(currently more than 20).
Uriach has set
the target of increasing
its direct presence in
several new European
markets.
15. However, it is important to highlight the fact that here at
Uriach, making an active contribution to bringing about a
better world is just as important as consolidating the
business growth. This is why the sustainability plan and the
global and local initiatives that have emerged from it have
become a key pillar of our new strategic plan for 2022-25.
We can only achieve all of this by constantly striving for
creativity so that we remain unique in our industry and
continuously improve how we connect with people. So that
Uriach remains a company that dreams big and can make
those dreams a reality.
Recognition of Achievements
With its exponential progress in the sector, Uriach has
managed to change the lives of thousands of people with
the quality and effectiveness of its natural products. Uriach
wants to set the standards in the industry, not only because
it has the best product portfolio but also because of its
innovative mindset.
The company has been granted different awards: Fuca
Regularidad has won a Nutraingredients award in 2022,
Fisiocrem was scooped the Best Product for Athletes at the
iDermo Awards in 2020, Colpofix was chosen as a winner
in 'Excellence in Pharma: Finished Products' CPhI Awards
2020, among others. These awards are a “seal of quality”
for the innovation they do at Uriach.
“It shows that our products can sustain the evaluation of an
international panel of scientific judges. It is a matter of
pride for the whole team to win one of these highly coveted
awards,”says the Innovation & Marketing Team.
Uriach has set
the target of increasing
its direct presence in
several new European
markets.
17. 24Genetics
A Synonym of Excellence in DTC Genetic Testing
In the last few years, genetics analysis has become
crucial in clinical practice and research with the robust
advancements in genomics technology. A great stride
has been made to unravel the underlying mechanisms of
genetic disorders.
As genetic testing methods are becoming widely accessible
and feasible to perform in a small-sized
laboratory—conceding with advancements in computer
technology—the application of genetic testing for
personalized medicine is ushering in an era by providing
new horizons for the betterment of human health.
Comprehending this scenario, the developments in genetics
and computer technologies continue to progress at their
current speed—we can look forward to some fantastic
results in human life in the near future.
We have the recent innovation as genetic testing is
commercially available; the individual now has the possible
means to access this delicate information named Direct to
Consumer (DTC) genetic testing. DTC provides an early
awareness of genetic diseases and thereby offers individuals
the opportunity to play an active role in the betterment of
their own health care.
Differing from the traditional hospital or physician-based
testing, accessing an individual's genetic information
without medical or specialized interpretation has gradually
found a place in our daily lives. Today, a handful of
companies from all over the world offer DTC services to
the public. This is where 24Genetics excels in the limelight
as one of the prominent providers of the widest range of
DTC genetic tests in the world, which are the most
comprehensive in the global healthcare industry.
24Genetics seeks to bring the valuable tools offered by
genetics closer to people so that they can empower every
person, through scientific and personalized genetic
information, to make the best decisions for their health and
well-being.
Under the leadership of Nacho Esteban, CEO, the
company aims to help people make the best decisions
related to their health by providing them with scientifically
proven genetic information.
In an interview with Insights Care, Nacho Esteban shared
valuable facts about 24Genetics highlighting the
significance of its offerings—his opinions on the future of
the company—in the healthcare industry.
Nacho, enlighten our readers about 24Genetics, its
vision its significant offerings in the healthcare niche.
24Genetics is one of the biggest Direct to Customer (DTC)
European Biotechnology companies that currently operates
in more than 100 countries and has thousands of clients. We
have one of the widest range of DTC genetic tests in the
world, which are considered to be the most comprehensive
on the market.
With just one DNA kit, we offer seven reports: Ancestry,
Health, Nutrigenetics, Skin Care, Talent and Personality,
Sports, and Pharmacogenetics.
Other companies can only see the ancestry in a few regions,
but we do it in thousands; or show a handful of traits related
to sports, nutrition, or skin, but we offer complete reports
with hundreds of sections. And regarding process quality,
our algorithms, developed by us and based on thousands of
scientific papers, are among the most advanced available in
the DTC DNA test market.
Our aim is to help people make the best decisions related to
their health by providing them with scientifically proven
genetic information.
Some of our main principles are…
Ÿ We do not sell our clients' genetic data and take your
privacy to the extreme. Your sample becomes an

does not include your full name.
Ÿ As a company, we believe it is only right to use the best
technology available. In our case, we work with
Illumina (world leader in genetic sequencing) and in a
European laboratory to guarantee the highest quality.
Ÿ With a single kit, you can have our seven reports. Today
or whenever you want. And you do not need to send any
other saliva sample.
Ÿ We can send our kits to every country in the world. It
does not matter where a person lives; we let him/her
access to personalized and valuable genetic information.
What was your inspiration and commitment behind
developing innovative healthcare products to improve
people's lives?
I have always been passionate about genetics, but the real
inspiration was the severe illness that my mother suffered
from, and from which she sadly passed away. That is what
prompted me to try to materialize what I had always
believed would be a breakthrough in the world of health.
Now I am gradually convinced that 24Genetics is on the
right way. Genetics can solve many problems if we bring it
16|www.insightscare.com June 2022
19. to the user level. Little by little, we are experiencing how it
is becoming more relevant, and we want to contribute to
that change happening as soon as possible.
How does 24Genetics leverage the emerging trends of
technology in the genetic report generation process?
The process we follow to generate our genetic reports:
Ÿ We extract the DNA from the saliva sample that clients
send to us.
Ÿ We transform the biological data contained in the DNA
into computerized data. This process is called
sequencing.
Ÿ We apply the algorithms developed exclusively by
24Genetics to this computer data, which allows us to
obtain each personalized report.
Ÿ As you can see, we combine purely biological processes
with in-computer processes, so that, without losing an
ounce of scientific rigor, we can process huge amounts
of information and provide detailed reports.
Ÿ Clearly, our company's processes demonstrate that
science and technology go hand in hand and adapt to the
needs of consumers.
As an established industry leader, what would be your
advice to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the healthcare industry?
Try to find something that you really have a passion and
interest in and are convinced that it is something that can
contribute to improving the current healthcare landscape.
Something that when you look back in a few years, you can
be proud of the legacy you leave behind.
What are your future goals, and how do you envision
further strengthening the stronghold of 24Genetics in
the healthcare sector?
We want to expand the fields in which we operate so that in
the future we can be a company that allows everyone to
obtain the necessary information to be able to make the best
decisions regarding their health.
An example of this would be to have a central app in which
a client could have all its information displayed and have it
available for a health expert, providing the professional
with the necessary information to give the patient the best
treatment possible regardless of the capabilities of the
hospital.
Please give us a few testimonials of your
clients/customers and a list of awards/recognitions that
accurately highlight 24Genetics position as a leading
company in the market. (If available/permissible.)
The reports are very precise and detailed; they explain
everything. Very satisfied with all the service, commitment,
and diligence. Thank you very much also for the assistance
received with difficulties and questions. The package that
they send you the kit with is detailed, impossible to miss
and has genuinely nice packaging. You are informed step by
step from the purchase to the receipt of the package to the
reshipment and the various checks that are made.
You do not feel abandoned, and you are informed of every
step made to analyze the sample. I can say that the reports
are precisely accurate. Some things, already confirmed with
medical tests, have been reconfirmed with you, so I
consider the rest very reliable.
Obviously, I will do other checks as you recommended—an
excellent product with great satisfaction. I highly
recommend trying it.
- Giorgia A. Polleri from Trustpilot.
Spectacular work of great professionals in the field. Results
are explained in detail, with genetic divisions not only by
communities but also by provinces and even counties, thus
creating a precision that no other genetic study offers. 100%
recommendable.

Asphalion are built
upon its passion,

23. Asphalion
The Biotech industry is evolving at a rapid pace. As a
result, Life Science consultants are increasingly in
demand for SMBs to access specialist skills and
offer reliability in the process. Consulting experts help
organizations save precious time and money while building
a reliable team of go-to experts under one roof. Life
Science consultants and experts also help with the
development of business strategies and R&D activities
required to develop and launch a successful product in the
market.
Companies catering to the pharmaceutical industry have to
undergo a rigorous regulatory process to bring a drug to the
market—the meticulous research goes into every product,
involving several skills from data analysis and statistics to
drug development strategies and scientific writing.
The art of giving advice is central to decision-making and
often seen as passive consumption of wisdom. That's
precisely the role Asphalion plays in helping the life
science industry develop high-quality evidence in order to
generate ideas while evolving the healthcare sector.
The Managing Director of Asphalion Núria Romero
envisions to be the global reference and driving force in the
healthcare industry. Under her leadership—the organization
offers a wide range of services—from drug development
strategies and scientific writing to medicinal product
management outsourcing. In an interview with Insights
Care, Núria talks about how the organization provides a
one-stop-shop to its clients in the process of drug
development.
Delve into her interview to get more insights on Asphalion.
Núria, please tell us about Asphalion in detail.
Asphalion is a Regulatory and Scientific Consulting in Life
Sciences founded in 2000, with several offices in Europe
and that currently counts with an international team of more

Pharmacovigilance, CMC, Regulatory Procedures,
eSubmissions, Data Management, and Medical Devices.
We offer a full range of services in all drug development
stages that span from pre-clinical and clinical to
commercialisation and post-market. We have strong
expertise in different types of products, including high
complex ones such as Biologics and ATMPs.
This expertise has also grown in terms of geographic scope.
So far, we have 1,000 yearly ongoing projects and work for
500 clients from over 50 countries, and the number of
markets where we operate keeps continuously increasing.
Our experts have built strong personal relationships with
regulatory agencies, associations, and key opinion leaders,
particularly in Europe, the UK, and North America.
Our global focus and our team's seniority allow us to
implement the right solutions for each client, tailored
specifically to their requirements, which allows us to often
exceed our clients' expectations.
Please give us a brief overview of your journey in the
healthcare niche, highlighting the USPs of Asphalion.
What makes Asphalion stand out is that we offer complete
customer solutions: we are a one-stop-shop covering a full
range of scientific and regulatory services in all drug
development stages.
21|www.insightscare.com June 2022
24. Our team is devoted to providing expertise, which is rooted
in seniority and engagement; quality, as we are used to
delivering results in complex situations, and we do have a
high satisfaction rate from our clients; commitment, as we
have a passionate and qualified team, willing and dedicated
to every project and always up to date to latest standards;
and flexibility, as we are constantly adapting to different
requirements, and we are used to working with tight
schedules.
What are the core values upon which Asphalion is built?
What is its mission and vision?
We want to be the preferred partner when it comes to
scientific and regulatory affairs outsourcing: our quality and
expertise are our core strengths and allow us to adapt
ourselves to any request.
The values of our organization are built upon our passion,
flexibility, commitment, quality, and companionship. Our
team´s mission is our passion: Working together with our
clients in order to generate ideas and implement solutions
that contribute to improving health in all our lives.
As for the vision, we dream about being a global reference
and driving force in the evolution of the healthcare sector,
offering the best environment for the individual and
collective growth of our team and clients.
What is your opinion on the necessity for the healthcare
industry to leverage the emerging trends of technology
concerning fulfilling your client's requirements in the
healthcare industry?
Through our technology partners, we co-create solutions
that bring added value from the point of view of
digitalization and innovation, understanding that there is a
need to find a combined effect between scientific and
healthcare knowledge and technological and digital
knowledge.
For instance, Data Management and the tools that support it
reflect the growing importance of automated services when
dealing with the regulations. It is key to collect good quality
information designed to improve data quality, and that
allows companies, besides complying with the
corresponding laws, to develop strategies and projects.
Above all, it is necessary to have a skilled team to carry out
this journey and a corporate mindset of the whole company
focused on how to integrate technology in all solutions we
offer to our clients, as well as to be continuously in the
22|www.insightscare.com June 2022
25. search for innovation. Our clients benefit from our team´s
knowledge and global focus. Still, they also benefit from
our use of sophisticated project management tools that
allow us to efficiently coordinate even the most complex
international projects.
What was your inspiration and commitment behind
developing innovative healthcare products to improve
people's lives?
Bringing our knowledge in the regulatory field to any
project and, as a result, making it possible for innovative
solutions to reach patients sooner and better. These are not
empty words: this is the purpose of our work, and we are
very fortunate to be able to see it every day while solving
our clients' challenges.
One of our main recent successes is our contribution to the
development of more than 20 projects in the fight against
COVID-19, which included: Regulatory support for the
development of two vaccines against COVID-19;
performance of pharmacovigilance activities for a COVID-
19 vaccine; Regulatory advice for a medical device's
software for COVID-19 monitoring; Regulatory support for
the preparation of Investigator's Brochure (IB) and IMPD
for COVID-19 treatment and participation in the EU-
funded Horizon COVID-19 project of ICFO (VASCOVID).
We are proud to have collaborated on these projects, but
prouder even of the high level of commitment and energy
shown by Asphalion's team.
As an established industry leader, what would be your
advice to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the healthcare industry?
I would tell them to get started as soon as possible!
Learning by doing is key to having full competence and
understanding of processes, being proactive, seeking out
mentors who can orientate you, and, above all, being
honest: honesty and integrity are the hallmarks of who we
are and what we do.
What are your future goals, and how do you envision
further strengthening the stronghold of Asphalion in the
healthcare sector?
Thanks to the seniority of our team and its continued
training, we have a clear vision of what the regulatory
landscape will look like in the short and long term, so we
can prepare ourselves and advise our clients to get ahead
and overcome future challenges.
Our strategic objectives could be summarized by boosting
our footprint in terms of growth and geographic scope. In
addition to this, we see growth opportunities in innovative
areas, such as biologicals, ATMPs, biosimilars, personalized
medicines, and medical devices.

Transforming Eye-tracking through Artificial Intelligence
In the current times, early detection of visual problems
in infants, children below the age of three, and patients
with neurocognitive disorder remain a significant
challenge. The standard visual tests are majorly designed
for adult patients with normal cognitive development. It is
hardly possible to use the same tests in younger children or
patients with developmental issues.
For this reason, the DIVE Medical Device has been
developed to enable precise and objective exploration of the
visual functions not only in children but in all non-
collaborative patients.
With a mission to provide universal, affordable, and
effective means to prevent vision impairment, DIVE
Medical's Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder,
Marta Ortin, believes in the vision of ensuring early vision
diagnosis and treatment.
In an interview with Insights Care, Marta talks about DIVE
and how the device is helping doctors in the early diagnosis
and treatment of visual problems in small children and
babies.
Below are the excerpts from the interview:
Please tell us about DIVE Medical in detail.
DIVE began as a collaborative research project between
ophthalmologists and opticians from the Aragon Health
Research Institute and engineers from the University of
Zaragoza (Spain). When we presented our results at
congresses, professionals in the field expressed a lot of
interest in our project.
They often told us that they would like to be able to use our
device in their practice and that they thought it was
something useful that could benefit many people.
Encouraged by the good reception, we started this
entrepreneurial adventure and found the company DIVE
Medical in early 2020.
From then on, several of the people who had worked in the
research of the device within the institutions joined the
company, in which we are already seven employees.
Please give us a brief overview of your journey in the
healthcare niche, highlighting the USPs of DIVE
Medical.
DIVE is a device that allows us to explore the visual
function of any patient, even those with whom doctors
cannot communicate (infants, young children, or people
with neurocognitive problems) and who are more difficult
to examine (such as patients with low vision).
It is a great challenge for professionals to explore these
patients, and the results they can obtain are often subjective
and inaccurate.
DIVE is able to perform a complete visual examination of
these patients and provide objective and accurate measures
of their visual function. In this way, we help make an earlier
and more reliable diagnosis and facilitate the follow-up of
pathologies and visual therapies.
What are the core values upon which DIVE Medical is
built? What is its vision and mission?
Our vision is to grow DIVE to become the national and
international standard for exploring the visual function in
all patients and become a reference in visual test
development. Our mission is to universalize eye care by
offering new technologies that allow the early detection,
diagnosis, and follow-up of visual pathologies in all types
of patients. Our values are integrity, effectiveness,
accountability, collective talent, and the pursuit of
excellence.
What is your opinion on the necessity for the healthcare
industry to leverage the emerging trends of technology
concerning fulfilling your client's requirements in the
healthcare industry?
Spain's Top 10 Companies Booming in Healthcare Sector 2022
25|www.insightscare.com June 2022
28. The introduction of technology in the healthcare industry
brings tremendous potential applications. In particular, in
the ophthalmology field in which we work, without using
technology, it is very challenging to explore certain patients
(including babies, patients with neurocognitive disorders, or
the elderly population), with results being very subjective
and non-repeatable, and with some visual functions being
impossible to measure.
By introducing technology, these challenges can be
overcome. In particular, DIVE has a screen on which we
display stimuli designed to evaluate different aspects of the
visual function. In addition, we incorporate eye-tracking
technology, which allows us to know the point on the
screen where the patient is looking at any given moment,
and deep learning for an automatized analysis of the
outcomes.
What was your inspiration and commitment behind
developing innovative healthcare products to improve
people's lives?
We started working on this project to solve the need the
ophthalmologists of our research team had every day during
their clinical practice. As soon as we started working on the
development of DIVE, we were able to see the impact of
our work in a very close and immediate way. Our biggest
motivation is DIVE's tangible beneficial impact on many
patients; this is the most gratifying thing for us.
As an established industry leader, what would be your
advice to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the healthcare industry?
I would tell them to have a clear objective and high
motivation. This is a complex sector that constitutes many
paperwork requirements and a prolonged entry process. In
turn, it is very rewarding to see how something you have
worked on for years helps improve the lives of people.
What are your future goals, and how do you envision
further strengthening the stronghold of DIVE Medical
in the healthcare sector?
We are currently focusing on applying our technology for
visual exploration, but it has already opened up a lot of
exciting opportunities. Besides incorporating new tests into
our existing DIVE device, we are also planning on
developing visual therapy exercises and systems for the
automatic early detection of neurological pathologies that
affect vision, such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, or autism.
Please give us a few testimonials of your
clients/customers and a list of awards/recognitions that
accurately highlight DIVE Medical's position as a
booming company in the healthcare sector.
Testimonials from ophthalmologists with whom we ran a
research project:
"DIVE is a tool that puts technology at the service of
clinical needs. It provides the ophthalmologist with very
valuable information because it is capable of analyzing and
quantifying visual functions as it had never been achieved
before. It is especially useful for pediatric ophthalmology,
where explorations can be difficult. DIVE captures
children's attention from the beginning, and their
collaboration is much better."
- Teresa Pérez Roche. Pediatric Ophthalmologist.
Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet, Zaragoza (Spain).
"It is a very useful device for decision making. Experience
and the subjective impression of the specialist are often
needed to make a diagnosis. DIVE facilitates decision-
making since it provides objective and quantitative data. It
is also useful for patient follow-up, allowing to see their
evolution and transmit the results. DIVE makes the office
visits easier."
- Sandra de Fernando. Ophthalmologist. Hospital
Universitario Cruces, Bilbao (Spain).
"Interesting device for a deeper analysis of ocular and
saccadic movements. In children with neurological
problems, it is [traditionally] more complicated to evaluate
this function. Exploring contrast sensitivity and color
perception is also very interesting for children whose
diagnosis is more complex. Traditional tests are more
boring, but through games [in DIVE] it is more enjoyable
for children. Good experience with children that have
syndromes or neurological problems. Useful for young
children, with whom doubts arise when making a
diagnosis."
- Marta Galdós. Ophthalmologist. Hospital Universitario
Cruces, Bilbao (Spain).

Coherence
Enhancing

Healthcare
Ent ies
All healthcare providers strive to provide high-
quality care to patients and consumers alike.
Maintaining an organized, patient information
structure that is accessible to everyone involved in the
delivery of health services while complying with medical
information, security, and privacy regulations, is part of
delivering high-quality healthcare. Improving access to
patient data effectively improves care quality and, as a
result, patient satisfaction. As a result, using a CRM for
hospitals and institutions has become a widely accepted
innovation.
Quality coordination for improved patient care
Providing healthcare services is no longer a one-person job;
multiple parties are now involved. The most difficult
of the
Strength and Resilience
29|www.insightscare.com June 2022
32. challenge, as with any setup involving multiple team
members, is information access and synchronized planning.
In a healthcare facility, a patient intake team usually refers
the patient to the treatment team, who then refers the patient
to post-treatment management and recovery. In order to
provide the best possible care to the patient, such a setup
relies on effective communication and information flow.
Coordination is greatly improved with the use of CRM
because all patients and healthcare personnel are centralized
for easy access and management.
Dynamic Healthcare Delivery
Different departments within a hospital frequently
collaborate to optimize patient care and make critical
patient decisions. CRM makes it simple to establish cross-
departmental collaborative care delivery. It is even possible
to share data for patients who must switch between the
public and private sectors.
Performance Analysis
CRM in healthcare offers a unique opportunity to analyze
and optimize day-to-day routine service delivery processes.
CRM enables the collection of critical hospital dates such
as admissions, discharges, transfers, referrals, and so on.
Certain measures can be taken to enhance patient
experiences by analyzing this data. Some unnecessary steps
between admissions and referrals, for example, could be
eliminated, and automated activities between disciplines
could be tailored for maximum efficiency. Patients, too,
recognize the importance of a positive healthcare
experience. According to one study, more than 52% of
patients prefer hospitals where they believe they will
receive good customer service.
Management of chronically ill patients
Patients with chronic illnesses require organized care, such
as scheduled follow-up checkups and routine tests. It is
possible to use CRM in healthcare not only to build
relationships between the patient and the caregiving team
but also to provide effective engagements within the
caregiving team itself. Management plans can be easily
tailored to the availability of the personnel involved, and
follow-up checkups can be scheduled at the convenience of
all parties involved, including the patient. Above all,
treatment can be easily adapted and developed for specific
patients, allowing for personalized care for each patient.
According to some estimates, the CRM industry in
healthcare will grow at a CAGR of around 9%.
Use across an enterprise
A CRM system can connect data generated from consumer
interactions across previously unconnected departments and
functions, such as clinical delivery and care management,
service operations, provider network management, and
marketing. This previously disjointed data, now brought
together by CRM systems, enables tailored and improved
customer and provider engagement opportunities — getting
the right data to the right people for desired results.
An omnichannel approach
Allowing people to choose how they want to engage fosters
loyalty and positive, connected relationships. CRM allows
for the orchestration of communication and connected
interaction across channels such as email, phone calls, texts,
videos, virtual messaging, and more, allowing consumers to
engage based on their preferences and convenience.
Organizations see positive results by approaching
customers through the channels they prefer. As a result, we
now account for nearly 40% of all global customer service
applications.
Collection of all data – clinical and consumer
A CRM system should combine consumer engagement data
and social determinant information with a consumer's
longitudinal health record to maximize value. A
longitudinal record is made up of disparate sources, such as
electronic health records (EHRs), claims, pharmacy, and
self-reported data, that are organized into a coherent view
for each individual. This clinically informed CRM serves as
the foundation for providing the care team (including the
consumer) with a complete picture of a person's health and
well-being, status, or if alternative care options are
available.
The bottom line
CRM in healthcare improves efficiencies through automated
workflows across multiple parties and increases effective
patient outreach. Coordination is effectively improved,
allowing for cost-effectiveness without compromising the
quality of care provided to patients. The implementation of
CRM all across the healthcare system will not only improve
the quality of care provided but also enhance inter-industry
coherence between different aspects of the healthcare
entities.

39. Rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI)
continue to introduce the technology to a wide
range of industrial applications—the medical
industry being no exception. Advances in analytical
techniques, integrated with the record of data in the
healthcare organizations, bring about many potential use
cases of AI in the fields of medicine and healthcare.
The role of AI also expands in the early detection of severe
diseases enabling appropriate treatments and better
outcomes for healthy living. This semblance shares the
expertise and performance of specialist providers who tend
to lack the precise fundamentals behind improving
treatment outcomes.
Moreover, AI also assists in identifying the severities in
infants, including infant meningitis and based on the
identification of the infection; healthcare professionals can
diagnose the problem and provide prompt medical
treatments. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for a
positive outcome, yet identifying meningitis is a complex
process involving an array of signs, symptoms and multiple
causal factors which require novel solutions to support
clinical decision-making.
Newborn Solutions, a medical device start-up that enables
non-invasive screening and monitoring of infections
created—first-in-class—an investigational medical device
(not for sale) that uses high-resolution ultrasound, unique
coupling materials, and Artificial Intelligence
algorithms—to accurately rule out or confirm meningitis in
neonates and small infants in a quick, easy and cost-
effective way.
Under the coherent leadership of Javier Jiménez, Founder
and CEO, the company is setting up the new standard for
screening and treatment monitoring and is revolutionizing
the management and diagnosis of infant meningitis by
enabling quick, easy detection, quantitative, reliable and
frequent treatment monitoring.
In an interview with Insights Care, Javier Jiménez sheds
light on the professional tenure showcasing the journey of
Newborn Solutions and unveils its revolutionary medical
device that is empowering innovations in the healthcare
niche.
Javier, enlighten our readers about Newborn Solutions
in detail.
Newborn Solutions is a medical device startup that enables
non-invasive screening and monitoring of infections in
serous body fluids, with an initial and primary focus on
infant meningitis. Meningitis suspicion is challenging due
to the unspecific signs associated with the infection, such as
fever of unknown source, particularly in infants and
newborns with very little symptomatology.
That's why history and physical examination alone are often
insufficient to confirm or exclude the diagnosis. Lumbar
puncture to draw a sample of cerebrospinal fluid is an
essential investigation and the current standard; however, it
is difficult to perform and potentially hazardous for the sick
child. Neosonics, the medical device we developed, will be
used to accurately rule out or confirm meningitis in a quick,
easy and cost-effective way.
Neosonics is a first-in-class medical device that uses high-
resolution ultrasound, unique coupling materials, and
Artificial Intelligence algorithms to automatically count, at
the push of a button, white blood cells in the cerebrospinal
fluid directly below the infant fontanelle, a well-established
diagnostic marker for infections.
We also work on our software-based development named
Neosonics-AI. AI gives us the automatization, the speed,
and the accuracy. And when combing the non-invasive cell
concentration measurement with Big Data, AI also has the
potential to empower the user (expert and non-expert) with
diagnostic information of the likely causing organisms so
that the precise treatment, dose, and duration can be applied
anywhere.
We are working on second-line applications, upon request
from key opinion leaders. Notably, the device is being
tested to show clinical feasibility in uveitis and peritonitis.
We are thrilled to say that the start of the clinical trials is
already very promising.
Please tell us about your journey highlighting the
novelties of Newborn Solutions in the healthcare niche.

meningitis.
Our unique selling proposition is Neosonics, a quick, easy
and cost-effective medical device to enable non-invasive
screening and monitoring of serous fluids infections, with
an initial focus on infant meningitis. In industrialized
countries where the incidence of infant meningitis is
relatively low, Neosonics will limit the use of lumbar
punctures to only those very few positive cases (3-5%),
thus, dramatically reducing the use of such an invasive
procedure in most of the suspected patients.
In low-income settings where the burden of the disease is
high but there is a lack of laboratory infrastructure and
training, the device will help reduce misdiagnosis,
mortality, and morbidity rates.
What are the core values upon which Newborn
Solutions is built? What is its vision and mission?
Our mission is to enable quick, easy, cost-effective
screening and monitoring of infectious diseases in serous
fluids through innovative non-invasive technology. We
believe that the future of diagnostics must go through
minimally invasive, quick, easy to use, and low-cost
technologies. This is our vision from Newborn Solutions
given our operations in developed countries and developing
and resource-constrained countries, and that is why we are
using low-cost high-resolution ultrasound combined with
AI for complete automatization and Big Data to enable
accurate diagnosis and treatment.
What is your opinion on the necessity for the healthcare
industry to leverage the emerging trends of technology,
concerning fulfilling your client's requirements in the
healthcare industry?
Clients have traditionally demanded more and more non-
invasive solutions that help them take quick and accurate
diagnostic solutions so that they can efficiently treat and
provide better to their patients.
The disruption of AI in healthcare together with the use of
Big Data seems to offer unlimited and already untapped
solutions to the healthcare professional and system.
However, these technologies often require access to
electronic patient data records and connect to remote
servers. As a result, sensitive ethical and privacy concerns
must be well addressed by regulatory bodies to enable the
healthcare system to benefit from the advantages of these
technologies.
Without ethical and privacy concerns being properly
regulated to protect the citizen and the healthcare system,
clients (hospitals) should carefully consider the adoption of

41. What are your future goals, and how do you envision
further strengthening the stronghold of Newborn
Solutions in the healthcare sector?
Neosonics, the device to non-invasively screen for infant
meningitis, will be launched in late 2023 according to our
plan. We will enter Spain first to show profitability and
where we have invaluable KOLs with whom we are
spreading a state of opinion about the project, and always
with our support to the Spanish Meningitis Association.
The USA is our next target market followed by a country
with a high disease burden yet a lack of resources like
India. If we show adoption in these regions, we will be
proving the scalability of the business not only in infant
meningitis but also in other second-line applications we are
developing, like peritonitis or uveitis.
While we have committed commercialization partners in
Spain, we are looking forward to engaging with a strategic
partner for global commercialization with whom we can
maximize concerted efforts and the jointly delivered value
as much as possible.
such new products and if, in case of adopted, they can
guarantee the rights of their patients will not be breached.
What was your inspiration and commitment behind
developing innovative healthcare products to improve
people's lives?
We strongly believe that innovation in medical technologies
improves patient care and healthcare sustainability, and our
goal is to create a social impact on people's health
worldwide. This means that we need to work first on what
the patient is really in need of and only then apply
innovation to address that need.
As an established industry leader, what would be your
advice to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the healthcare industry?
We are not an established industry leader. If anything, we
are a start-up trying to have a global meaningful impact in
healthcare and in a way, we respect diversity and the
environment as much as possible.
My advice is to take one step after the other, having a clear
long-term vision in mind, validate/test every decision
before you take it, make the necessary steps to reflect on the
big picture in case adjustments are needed and if you are
not thinking about your project 18h a day, do not take any
further step.

monitoring of their main parameters through comfortable,
innovative, and reliable devices. To be by their side so that
they feel freer and improve their performance in sport. We
are persevering because our dream is to make the dream of
others come true.
Innovation:
Research is part of our DNA. Our R&D team works to
create avant-garde solutions that pose a before and after in
the measurement during sport or in health management. We
are disruptive; we have the knowledge, technology, and
expertise to do it.
Freedom:
We want to empower people, contribute to their freedom
through intelligent solutions, focus on their real needs, and
42|www.insightscare.com June 2022
45. facilitate their daily care. Health begins with the knowledge
of our own body, and our greatest encouragement is to
achieve it in a non-invasive and rigorous way.
Universalism:
Health should be a universal right, and at Onalabs, we want
to reach out to all people. To sportspeople, patients, and
health professionals. We are plural, collaborative and
global. Because by improving people's health, we will
contribute to improving the world in which we live.
What is your opinion on the necessity for the healthcare
industry to leverage the emerging trends of technology,
concerning to fulfil your client's requirements in the
healthcare industry?
Coronavirus has changed our daily life; it has accelerated
the need to reduce the visits of risky chronic patients to the
hospital, enhancing remote assistance. Moreover, there is an
increased burden on healthcare systems due to the aging
population and longer life expectancy. It is time to
accelerate remote patient monitoring.
There are a lot of IT platforms to visualize clinical data, and
wearable technologies are leading the market to improve
remote patient monitorization. However, real telemedicine
is still far away from being a reality.
One of the most important limitations is that current
technologies are limited because blood samples are required
to detect most of the current biomarkers (glucose, lactate,
cortisol): a big barrier for remote and real-time monitoring
and causing important problems.
For that reason, Onalabs has developed a new generation of
medical-grade wearables that has the ability to measure
clinical reliability and accurate remote data of physical and
biochemical biomarkers simultaneously.
What was your inspiration and commitment behind
developing innovative healthcare products to improve
people's lives?
We create smart devices to measure relevant biomarkers
anytime, anywhere, without pain:
Ÿ To make people's lives easier and safer by monitoring
their parameters without even noticing them. We would
improve patients' quality of life and emotional estate.
Ÿ To help professionals in their daily activities, improving
prevention, diagnostic, treatment, and protocols.
Ÿ To reduce healthcare costs by reducing hospitalization
and monitoring patients remotely.
As an established industry leader, what would be your
advice to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the healthcare industry?
Based on our experience, the best advice we can give to
entrepreneurs is to focus on having the science behind the
product or solutions well protected, knowing very well the
real needs of the market, and having the enthusiasm and
resilience to never stop pushing the project.
What are your future goals, and how do you envision
further strengthening the stronghold of Onalabs Inno-
Hub in the healthcare sector?
Our upcoming activities are on the way to consolidating
two of the most important goals for Onalabs. On the one
hand, consolidate us in the European market, and begin
negotiations to enter the North American market. On the
other hand, continue strengthening our presence with
strategic alliances with prominent key players to achieve an
excellent position in a few years.

46. Healthcare Systems
How to Transform
Present
into
Patient-Centric
Wellness Ecosystem
Novel Perspective
Alook at the evolution of technology use in
healthcare reveals a dynamic and fascinating series
of events that led to the digital health age as we
know it, keeping in mind that technological progress has
been extremely rapid and is increasingly orienting towards
patient-centric principles.
The 1960s, combined with advances in information and
communication technology (ICT) and the pressing need to
make healthcare accessible in remote areas, carved the way
for technological application in the healthcare space and the
emergence of Telemedicine, which literally means "healing
at a distance" took place. In this article, we will explore
some of the technological trends that are shaping the
healthcare systems to be patient-centric wellness
ecosystems.
e-Patients, e-Physicians, and Smart Hospitals
According to patient-centered care, a partnership has
developed between the patient and the provider, and the
patient is encouraged to actively participate in disease
management as well as be involved in decision-making.
Furthermore, patients are increasingly relying on the
internet for health information. As a result, today's patient is
"empowered, engaged, equipped, and enabled," in addition
to being digitally savvy, resulting in the birth of an e-
Patient.
Doctors are slowly but steadily embracing and
implementing technology. Through smarter scheduling and
task organization, e-Physicians are increasingly benefiting
from the opportunities provided by smartphones in clinical
decision-making and better service coordination.
44|www.insightscare.com June 2022
48. Hospital facilities are also evolving in tandem, utilizing
technological innovations to improve patient care and
safety during their stay, such as installing automation
systems in the building to regulate temperature and
ventilation and installing smart locks. Smart patient care
processes are ensured by interconnected clinical
information systems such as Laboratory Information
Systems. Furthermore, identification systems allow patients,
hospital staff, and hospital equipment to be authenticated
and tracked.
Teleconsultation and Remote Patient Monitoring
The abundance of opportunities for effective
communication made possible by technological
advancements has laid the groundwork for real-time
consultations between health providers and patients
separated by geographical distance, a process known as
teleconsultation, bridging the communication gap between
them. Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is a more robust
form of teleconsultation that uses cutting-edge IT tools to
provide diagnostic and treatment services to patients in
remote and rural areas.
Internet as the Source of Health Information
With internet access at an all-time high, approximately
eight out of ten Americans use the internet as a source of
health-related information. A digital-age patient now has
access to an infinite amount of information. Online medical
encyclopedias like MedlinePlus provide in-depth
information on diseases, tests, symptoms, and treatment.
Help-seeking behavior for mental health issues using online
information is on the rise among young adults.
Wearable Sensors
Patients with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular
disease and diabetes can now monitor their vital signs such
as blood pressure and blood glucose levels using
miniaturized, sensor-enabled wearable devices and thus
engage in self-care. It also enables the patient to wirelessly
transmit the data obtained to a health care professional. A
study emphasized the viability of wearable devices in
promoting physical activity and weight loss. Furthermore,
data obtained from wearable sensors alert the patient and
the healthcare team to adverse events and prompt, timely
corrective action.
Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
EMRs, which can store a patient's health and medical
information in digital form, has piqued the interest of many
physicians. It not only improves communication among
members of the health care team but also provides them
with readable and organized information, lowering the risk
of medical errors.
Health Portals
Portals are personal healthcare-related websites that allow
patients to communicate with their healthcare team via
teleconsultations, with the goal of bridging the
communication gap between patients and providers. They
also allow access to lab test results, scheduling
appointments with doctors, and refilling prescriptions.
According to a systematic review of the effect of patient
portals, ten out of twenty-seven studies reported favorable
effects in terms of medication adherence, self-care
practices, improved patient satisfaction, and functional
status.
Big Data
A large and complex volume of data known as Big Data is
being produced as a result of the digitization of medical and
health records (EMRs) and data generated from wearable
devices. This massive repository of data is now being used
to assist clinicians in providing an observational evidence
base. Big Data has also made it possible to provide
personalized treatment by combining genomics and EMR
analytics.
Conclusion
The paradigm shift in healthcare delivery toward patient-
centered care has restructured the dynamics of the patient-
provider relationship, allowing patients to take an active
role in protecting their own health. Although this area of
health care is still in its early stages due to slow adoption
and a long way to go in terms of implementation, evidence-
based, and regulatory framework development, excitement
is building due to its unprecedented potential in disease
treatment, disease prevention, and health promotion. It has
the ability to reach out to every person in need of healthcare
at every level and may thus prove to be a silver lining in the
healthcare system.

50. Top Doctors
Helping you find doctors at your fingertip
Choosing the right doctor can be challenging,
especially if you have moved out to a new setting.
It can also be difficult to search for a doctor if there
are changes in your insurance or if your old doctor is
retiring. Additionally, visiting a doctor physically can often
be viewed as a hectic process, especially if you are severely
ill.
Providing a one-stop virtual solution to the above
challenges is Top Doctors, an online platform that helps
patients make their choice by selecting the best-in-class
specialists across the globe. With its patient-centric
approach, the organization has built a device that is
accessible from the comfort of your home.
In an interview with Insights Care, the President, and CEO
Alberto E. Porciani spoke about this innovative approach
and its impact on the healthcare niche.
Below are the highlights:
Please tell us about Top Doctors in detail.
Top Doctors is an online platform gathering selected best-
in-class specialists across more than 50 specialties
(orthopedic surgeons, dermatologists, ophthalmologists) in
eight countries (Europe, LATAM, and the Middle East).
Today, over 90,000 clinical specialists are referenced on the
platform as best doctors following a thorough screening and
peer-to-peer and patients ratings selection process realized
by TD.
TD's offering to specialists is focused on online reputation
management, online booking assistance, teleconsultation
solutions, and other tech solutions that help improve
doctors' and clinics' practice management and increase the
traffic of better-qualified patients.
The platform is free for patients, generates +275m web
visits per year, and contributes to solving the specialist's
medical-desert issues across the globe.
Please give us a brief overview of Top Doctors' journey
in the healthcare niche, highlighting the USPs of your
company.
Top Doctors is the only platform that allows patients to
choose a doctor based on quality information showing the
doctors most recommended by other specialists and the real
experiences of other patients.
Additionally, our unique search algorithm is based on
matching the pathology, treatment, or disease experienced
by the patient, with the doctor's expertise, with a focus on
specialist (secondary) care. As a result, the patient can
easily find the right expert for them for each pathology,
treatment, or disease.
Finally, we also offer online booking for face-to-face visits
and telemedicine services where medical consultations with
the most prominent doctors can be carried out immediately
and without geographical limitations. This is crucial,
especially for patients who live in 'medical deserts' (areas
with a limited number of specialists).
What is unique about Top Doctors is that we have
developed a selection process of top specialists. Our
selection process is a combination of two main areas: peer-
to-peer recommendation, where doctors nominate another
doctor because they believe they are among the best in their
field and would recommend them to friends or family, and
on top of that, we have our internal auditing of doctors'
Cvs.
Only one in five doctors pass our rigorous selection process.
Finally, we also combine information about the doctor with
patients' ratings to maintain the highest standard of quality.
What are the core values upon which your organization
is built? What is the vision and mission of Top Doctors?
The mission of Top Doctors is to make it easy for patients
to find and get access to the best specialists worldwide
through IT solutions.

52. The vision is to be a unique platform that offers patients
worldwide the most relevant information guiding them to
select the right specialist for each medical case and easy
access to book a face-to-face appointment or telemedicine.
Ÿ Right doctor for the right patient/pathology is our
excellent triage system that helps patients to match their
symptoms with the right pathology and find an expert
specialist in that condition within our platform.
Ÿ Our Telemedicine platform is a tool that allows patients
to have quick and easy access to the specialist that they
need.
Ÿ Based on quality throughout our selection process, the
doctors that are part of Top Doctors have been
recommended as recognized doctors by other medical
specialists.
They have passed our internal audit process that analyses
their trajectory and CV. We have a medical committee that
guarantees excellence, and we finally have a face-to-face
meeting with the doctor. Following this, we consider the
reviews left by patients year on year.
We do all of this to improve the healthcare process and the
health of patients, reducing the emotional and economic
costs of all stakeholders in the healthcare system.
What is your opinion on the necessity for the healthcare
industry to leverage the emerging trends of technology
concerning fulfilling your client's requirements in the
healthcare industry?
At Top Doctors, we use the latest technological trends to
help patients throughout the medical process.
Ÿ We use AI in our symptom checker so that by answering
a few questions and indicating your symptoms, our
algorithm offers the most suitable medical specialist for
your case.
Ÿ E-consultation: We need to differentiate between
telemedicine and e-consultations. To provide e-
diagnosis, the doctor needs to have all the patient's
clinical records, or there needs to be some kind of a
medical device connecting the doctor with the patient,
providing real-world data. In this space, our
understanding is that we are promoting consultations
that are "phygital," a combination of physical and
digital sessions. The "phygital" model is something that
doctors must also understand very well, and how it
applies to their day-to-day workflow.
Ÿ Big Data and technology for hospitals allow us to
collect patient data thanks to standard medical records
and use predictive algorithms that help to control and
maintain the patient's health.
Ÿ Home care platform connected to a medical device to
help with patient care and provide support and follow-
up in medical deserts.
What was your inspiration and commitment behind
developing innovative healthcare products to improve
people's lives?
It is the importance of getting your health right and know
the best specialist to go to when faced with a health issue.
From an internal survey, we know that patients usually must
go to 2.7 different doctors before finding the right specialist
for them.
Through Top Doctors, 90% of users find the right doctor in
the first consultation.
We also believe that access to the best medicine and
treatments should be within everyone's reach, without
geographical or digital barriers. 67% of online
consultations are done from medical deserts. With this in
mind, we are working every day to make this idea a reality
and improve communication between patients and leading
health professionals around the world.
As an established industry leader, what would be your
advice to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the healthcare industry?
The healthcare sector is very local and complex; you need
to know and understand the sector well—the importance of
passion. The important thing is the execution, not the
idea—the timescales in healthcare. A healthcare business
needs time to take off.
What are your future goals, and how do you envision
further strengthening the stronghold of Top Doctors
in the healthcare sector?
The objective is to develop technology focused on
hospitals, improve any type of internal hospital processes,
and help in the digitalization of hospitals.

Connecting Users, Engaging Communities
for a Healthy World
In recent years, the level of growth and innovation in
wearables has boosted the usage of this technology in
health and clinical trial settings. Moreover, the
application of health monitoring devices in clinical research
is a reassuring and essential element in allowing the trials to
continue even during the crucial time of the COVID-19
pandemic.
Wearable medical devices allow data to be collected
digitally and automatically, so patients may not need to
keep manual data records. They may also be under less
pressure to recall this information at a later date.
Significantly, using wearable health devices can also help
reduce the need for clinical visits, giving participants a
greater degree of independence. Adding to this scenario,
API solutions make it possible to leverage health and
activity data from wearable devices. It is intended to be
used for corporate wellness, population health, and patient
monitoring applications. Certainly, WeFitter API offers
aggregated data from fitness and health applications and
wearables, enabling its users to analyze aggregated data,

56. adding new features such as profiling, a recommendations
module for supplements, and biological age score.
What are the core values upon which WeFitter is built?
What is its vision and mission?
Our mission: Rich features, easy integration, fun and simple
gamification – a healthier lifestyle with the WeFitter API.
With a Vision: "Healthier end-user lifestyles" - Powered by
the WeFitter software and technologies.
For the Goals: WeFitter was born from the strive to achieve
a healthier lifestyle. For end-users, from creators, with the
latest technologies and fresh technical expertise. Health
redesigned with the best value for money IT solution.
One team, one job: We are more than a group of people
working on software solutions. The WeFitter team is
motivated and driven by the importance of fun, awareness,
and overall benefits of a healthy lifestyle for our clients and
their end-users.
From fitness enthusiasts to fitness starters–we bring the
knowledge and expertise needed on all sides of keeping fit,
understanding the end-user needs and the customer pains,
towards creating an easy to use yet fully developed solution
to support the goalsetting of clients.
What was your inspiration and commitment behind
developing innovative healthcare products to improve
people's lives?
The intention has always been to create a healthier lifestyle
for people in an accessible way. That is why we use a
wearable device (starts with a phone with a step-counter) so
it is possible for everyone to join. That is the way we can
integrate the WeFitter solution into existing technology that
is already being used.
54|www.insightscare.com June 2022
57. To collect health information by means of gamification so
people enjoy engaging with a healthier lifestyle in an
accessible way. Next to that, we collect the health data so
we can work towards more personalised health advice using
Artificial Intelligence knowledge (biological age score,
sleep advice and mental health).
What is your opinion on the necessity for the healthcare
industry to leverage the emerging trends of technology,
concerning to fulfil your client's requirements in the
healthcare industry?
A key point that matches with the WeFitter solution is that
IT systems in the healthcare sector aren't integrated with
each other. Lots of separate systems that don't talk to each
other. WeFitter builds the bridge to push and pull health
data from one platform into another. In WeFitter's case, it is
the integration of patient health data into an existing
healthcare platform.
In the healthcare sector, information can be found on
different places. Because of this, a healthcare professional
has an incomplete view of the total reality. We offer the
connections with wearable devices into an existing system.
This results in an extra data stream to provide healthcare
platforms with all contextual health data concerning their
patients.
As an established industry leader, what would be your
advice to the budding entrepreneurs and enthusiasts
aspiring to venture into the healthcare industry?
To solve a core problem should be the starting point for an
entrepreneur in the industry.
Start with a small solution to the core problem, then using
feedback loops expand the solution you bring to the market.
The feedback loops keep you engaged with customers, end-
users and the market.
The team is incredibly important, the expertise the core
team has about the product and the market makes the
difference between success and failure.
What are your future goals, and how do you envision
further strengthening the stronghold of WeFitter in the
healthcare sector?
To be the number one aggregator API for fitness and health
platforms in Europe, that is our core mission.
We would like to achieve a foothold in the healthcare sector
through strategic partnerships. With the team-internal
knowledge of AI, we want to be a unique and specialised
personalised solution in terms of health data.
