RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. With over 2,200 passengers and crew on board, the sinking of Titanic caused the deaths of more than 1,500 people and was one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. The Titanic was the largest ship in service at the time of her maiden voyage and was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast for the White Star Line.
