1. 6. What have you learnt
about technologies from
the process of
constructing the product?
2. RESEARCH
• In my research, I included technologies such
as DVDs and the Internet.
DVDs
• I chose to watch the DVDs I own at home such
as the SAW films and Nightmare on Elm
Street, these both helped me to realise what
makes an opening sequence effective and how
we could make ours have the same effect these
films did on me.
3. INTERNET
• Websites I looked at in my research included
YouTube, IMDB and Thunder Chunky.
• I used YouTube to get inspiration for our media
production techniques as well as to analyse
some clips and pick out ways in which they
represent the genre of the film. I also used
YouTube to find recipes for fake blood.
4. INTERNET cont..
• I used IMDB to get some ideas as to what films
we could get our inspiration from, it is a very
helpful website to search genres on. I also used
IMDB to find out audience’s opinions to see
what makes them feel the way they do about
certain genres.
• I used Thunder Chunky to read up on opening
sequences and particularly focussed on an
interview with Kyle Cooper that was about the
opening sequence he created for Seven.
5. PLANNING
• In order to plan our opening sequence our group went
out to look for good locations to film with the camera.
• I also wrote up a list of things to do with Lauren and one
by one we ticked them all off. Lauren and I also planned
our costumes within group discussions.
• Group discussions covered a lot of planning
methods, one of which was a filming schedule. This
went to plan but we started adding dates and times to it
as we went along.
• We also drew up a storyboard to plan in what order all of
our shots were going to happen in. We than animated
this and uploaded it to our blogs twice with SlideShare.
6. CONSTRUCTION
• In constructing our product, we used a lot of
different technologies.
• The main two being used for editing and filming
were Final Cut Pro and Katherine’s DSLR camera.
We experimented with all the effects as we did with
camera shots and angles. E.g. We filmed the scene
where Lauren pushes the books off the table several
times from different angles to see which was best.
• In post production, we used YouTube converters to
download the songs we wanted as our score. These
were then imported to Final Cut Pro and added in to
our piece.
7. EVALUATION
• In our evaluation, we wanted to find out what
other people thought of our finished product
so we used different technologies to get their
feedback.
• We used Microsoft Word to create a
questionnaire which we printed off and gave
out to people.
• We also shared our video on YouTube to see
what the viewers thought, but unfortunately
nobody commented.
