Jason Mraz - i'm yours
1.
2. The music video starts off by showing an establishing shot of an
airplane on the ground. – this gives a sense of a journey taking
place.
The shots after show slower shots of closed in images. An
example of this is the shot that shows the sign of ‘35 speed limit’.
This connotes that there shouldn’t be any limits in life and nothing
should stop you.
The shadows in the music video of Jason shown could represent
him trying to find the thing/person that makes him complete and
becoming a person again rather than just being a shadow. – this
allows the audience to get a sense of what the narrative might be
and how the protagonist in the video may be portrayed.
3. In the beginning, we see a close up shot of a fish in a tank, then
later the music video shows a long shot of Jason jumping into a lake
which also shows high waterfalls. This shows that he has an attitude
of someone who doesn’t care what other people think and just wants
to be free. This also gives a feel of how beautiful the world is and
how we should enjoy every moment.
In the music video, we see a shot of a truck then we see a close up
of Jason’s foot as he is walking and hitch hiking. This gives a sense
of his personality and how he is representing his opinion towards
vehicles which is something that damages the world.
4. The clothing Jason is shown to be wearing is casual clothing which
is combat shorts and baggy t-shirts. This shows his attitude towards
how he likes to represent himself – which is that he doesn’t care
what anyone thinks and that he’s laid back. This also suggests he is
down to earth and adds a personal touch towards the music video.
His sense of style could appeal to the younger audience as they will
care about things around them rather than their appearance.
As Jason is seen to be wearing sunglasses, it gives a positive
attitude towards the video as we know its summer which means
having fun in the sun. The other shots used in this music video to
represent summer are high angle establishing shots of the fields.
5. The music video shows Goodwin’s theory and the convention of
having links between lyrics and visuals. The music video shows
aspects of the hippie culture, we see this with the lyrics “Listen to the
music of the moment, people dance and sing, we're just one big
family”. This shows everyone together hanging out. This helps the
audience understand the meaning of the song and the video itself.
The target audience for this song/music would be a younger
generation to Jason Mraz’s. this is as he uses stereotypical youth
‘cool’ activities such as skating and surfing. This brings life towards
the music video and also the bright colors give a positive energy.
