2. Our Song
The song we have chosen is by the band Green Day called Boulevard of Broken
Dreams.
We took inspiration from The Verve’s song Bitter sweet symphony as the main
character in that is walking down a busy street whilst singing the song. We also
looked at a past student music video of the song Young and beautiful by Lana Del
Ray where they used a green screen.
3. Genre
The genre of our music video is that it is an interpretive video this means that the
video uses the lyrics to create a plot.
We chose to do a interpretive video because we thought it made the video relatable
and we thought the song had good lyrics we could turn into a story and it would make
interesting flashbacks that we could include.
Lyrics
I walk alone – Took inspiration from this line when the girl fades away.
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone... – At this point in the video his band mates are walking with
him but at the end they leave him alone.
We are following the stereotypes of a typical music video about a breakup because
we are including the journey of the couples relationship. This will engage our
audience because it is something that is often witnessed among teens.
4. Narrative
For our music video our main character will be a young male who has recently
broken up with his girlfriend. In the video we will show flashbacks of their
relationship projected onto a green screen from when they were happy to them
breaking up. This will be in the background while the main character walks in
front of the flashbacks lip syncing to the song. As the main character sings he will
be joined by other people during the chorus, these people will be his band
members.

5. Representation
We are representing in our music video young adults/teenagers as they go
through a breakup. We are presenting them as stereotypical teenagers with how
they are behaving.
We represent the male in an inferior way to the female as she moves on from
their relationship but he cannot.
6. Representation – costumes
We have decided to dress the male character in plain everyday clothes like a
shirt top and jeans we will make him wear neutral and dark toned clothes
however when he is in the flashbacks he will wear brighter clothes to symbolise
him being happy. This our stereotypical teenage everyday clothes.
For the girl we will have her in a dress which will be once again a bright colour,
as she is only in the flashbacks.
7. Audience
Our music video is aimed at young adults/teens. As the narrative is about people
from that age group. This means that the audience can identify with the
characters.
However Green Day is a popular band so there are many different groups that
would have listened to the song, so there would not be just one group of people
that would watch.
We want the audience to identify with the main character and feel bad for him.
8. Media language
The flashbacks will start with a bright and colourful filter as the flashbacks will
be of their relationship and the tones will darker when the relationship starts to
fall apart.
In our music video it is binary opposites that drive the narrative forward, such as
girl and boy, light and dark (filters).
9. Settings
One of our settings will be a busy street like in the music video Bitter sweet
symphony. This setting will be used as a projection on the green screen and also
it will be used as part of the highlights when the boy and girl see each other on
the street after the break up.
Another setting we are going to use is a beach. We will use this setting for the
happier scenes of the relationship and also after they have broken up. A beach is
a very cliché setting for a romantic music video so we are following the
stereotypes for that genre.
