3. What is the genre of music and how does
this reflected in the video?
The genre of the music is house and this is
reflected in the scene through the fast cuts that
are in time with the dance beat. And this sustains
the audiences interests and prevents boredom.
Additionally there are a lot of high angle
establishing shots to give the viewers a sense of
environment the dance track is filmed in. There
are also a lot of fast shots that add a sense of
realism that there would be in a dance and club
environment. Furthermore there are a lot of close
up shots of the couple laughing and having fun.
4. How do the images relate to the lyrics count
the number of shots overall ?
The images relates to the lyrics through the
images and the visuals in the video. Overall there
are about five times when the images relate to
the lyrics for example when they are driving and
the lyrics are “ in the back seat of your rover” this
relates to the image because the car they are
driving in the video is a range rover.
And also when there is a close up of a young
couple whilst the lyrics are “ we aint ever getting
older” this image relates to the lyric because the
couple are young and having fun together.
5. How is the artist presented to “sell” them and
how important are close ups?
The artists don’t present to “sell” them however
the message in this video is about love. There
are multiple close ups throughout the whole
music video for example at the beginning there is
a close up some photographs which set the
foundation for the story line of the video. This
highlights that close ups are important because
they focus on only one thing which allows the
audience to focus and engage in what is
happening in the music video.
6. Is there any reference to “looking”? Are
females presented voyeuristically?
There are a few references to “looking” at
females, however the females are not presented
as voyeuristically. For example, there are a
couple of mid shot and close up shots of the
main female in her bikini at the beach but the
camera is not looking at her in an explicit way.
Nor is there any nudity in the music video, the
female in the video is presented as a “wife” this is
evident because the main female character is he
same she does not change.
7. Can you spot any intertextual references?
What are they?
There are not any obvious intertexual references
in this music video.
8. Camera work. Editing , mise-en-scene,
special effects, sound
The location has a lot of natural lighting and
vibrant colours the location matches the genre of
the song.
There were a lot of long shots and close and
extreme close ups which put emphasis on the
theme of being young ad in love.
Both artificial and natural lighting was used.
There were multiple jump cuts that were used as
transitions jumping from one scene of the
location to another.
Advanced camera movement: there were pans,
dolly track shots but mostly hand held shots.
9. Is there a narrative? How is the video
organised and structured?
The music video is structure and organised
though jump cuts from different location from the
couples past to their present.
