Evaluation q7 - hibba
1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
Looking back at my preliminary task, I realise that I have learnt many things throughout making my final
product. The things that I have learnt are editing skills, organization skills, group work, gathering actors, shot
types and planning.
The main thing I have learnt since the preliminary task is how to edit on Final Cut Pro. My knowledge of using
this software was not as good as I thought it was, as I was editing my final product, I discovered many
different ways in which I could make my editing skills better which makes a big impact on my media product.
For example, throughout the process of editing I learnt that I could cut out certain parts of the clip that was
not needed, add in fades so the clip doesn’t jump and how to add in titles. I used different editing software’s
such as Motion and LiveType, this allowed me to edit parts of my media product and add effects and titles to it
and would make my media product look like a more professional and proper film opening.
Another thing I have learnt since doing the preliminary task is the shot types, as we went on further in the
year, we learnt more about shot types and my preliminary task didn’t have as many shot types as it has in my
media product. The main three shots I have in my preliminary task is the 180-degree rule, match on action
and shot reverse shot. In my final media product, I have used close ups, panning shots, point of view shots
and many more. As our preliminary task was supposed to be short, I didn’t get the opportunity to add more
shots as it was supposed to be simple therefore I was restricted on my shot types but in my media product, I
was able to experiment different shots and angles and try different things.
Reflecting back on my preliminary task, I noticed that this time round, I was well organized. Whilst doing the
preliminary task, my organization skills were poor as everything was done last minute and I had poor time
management. This was also because I had difficulties finding the right time me and my fellow group member
could film as we both had different lessons that day. Another reason why this was difficult was because we
couldn’t gather actors, as everyone was busy and had a different timetable and we couldn’t rely on anyone
therefore it involved me stepping in and being the actor in the preliminary task. From this experience, I have
learnt to prepare everything beforehand and be organized otherwise it wastes time which could be used for
the actual filming and I now know it is better to make a filming schedule so I can stick to it which will be
easier as that is what I done for my media product and finished my work before the deadline.
As in our preliminary task we weren’t organized, this meant that we had nothing planned for our idea. As we
had nothing planned, we changed our ideas a few times whilst trying to film it which meant everything going
wrong and being unprepared and thinking of a new script. When doing our research and planning for our
media product, I learnt to prepare the script and idea using ‘storyboardthat’ so we can use that to help with
our product and know how we want it to be.
Overall, I have learnt many things from the experience of making my preliminary task and final media
product.
