Conventions of radio news
1. Radio News
In this presentation I will be explaining the conventions
of radio news.
2. Regular time checks – This gives the listener a regular update on time. This
could gain more listeners because they would want a regular update on time
if they are travelling to work or in need of the time.
Interviews with people concerned with the stories – This gives the listener a
range of public opinions on the situation or a professionals opinion to make
the information being given believable.
Formal language, serious voices - This makes the presenters seem serious on
the subject which puts the listeners in the same mood. It also tells the
listener what kind of radio show it is, being more formal and serious. Some
others are less formal and use more humor for the viewers who want a less
serious show.
Name presenters – This lets the listener know who is speaking.
Headlines - Using headlines tries to make the listener interested in what
they are talking about, which will keep them listening to their channel
otherwise they may lose their audience.
3. Newsreader – expanded on the stories.
Correspondents/reporters for all the additional info – This would give
listeners extra information who want to know more on the subject and also
gives information the presenter may not have.
Weather reports and sports news – Applying these to their radio channel
would gain a wider range of audience because the public would want
updates on latest sports (football) and weather information.
Archival sound
Sound to introduce/identify the news – This tells the listener the news is
starting and is an identification for it being the news.
