3. 1. Loss on drying is the loss of weight expressed as percentage w/w resulting
from water and volatile matter of any kind that can be driven off under
specified conditions.
2. Loss on drying test is designed to measure the amount of water and volatile
matter in a sample when the sample is dried under specific condition
3. The test is carried out on a well-mixed sample of the substance.
4. LOD is performed as in-process testing for wet cake samples of drug from
various stages.
5. LOD will always be more than water content because LOD result gives water
content, solvent in substance. Although Water content gives only amout of
water present.

4. Intermediate & API:
LOD determination error might impact the qty of drug | intermediate on dry
basis and thus impact the reaction mechanism and ultimately to ending results
in the form of quality and quantity of outcomes as next intermediate or API.

Net Weight of Wet Sample taken : 15 gm
Net Weight of Sample after Drying in Oven: 10.78 gm

By Putting all obtained values in below formula:
It means that wet cake has 28.1% water & other volatile
substance and 71.9 % of actual weight of material on dry basis.
