Five Guys
The Five Guys mission statement, as simple as its menu, is aligned with the philosophy that if you 're going to sell hamburgers and fries in a restaurant
industry that has a lot of hamburger–french–fries business, you 'd better do hamburgers and fries well than the competitors. Five Guy's focus is not to
add more items to the menu, but to serve top quality burgers and fries to keep their business booming. According to Boonze and Kutrz (2012) Murrell
states "We figure our best salesman is our customer", "treat that person right, he'll walk out the door and sell for you" (pg. 78). This philosophy is one
of the key factors that keep Five Guy's apart from other fast–food chains.
Five Guys philosophy has shown significant strength; today ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treating employees well is one of Five Guy's mottos. The company proves it by spending less money on advertising to give worker's bonuses.
Murrell admits that they do things a little differently than most companies. According to an interview with L. Joiner (2012), Mr. Murrell states "All of
our employees at our stores, we pay them good money. I think that 's important," he says. "Hire well–paid people and they 'll stay with you." The
statement is true and according to Boone and Kurtz (2012), "an organization that wants to prosper over the long term is well advised to consider
business ethics". The pay for Five Guys ' employees varies by state and whether the store is corporate or a franchise, almost all of the crew–level
employees make above minimum wage.
Ethical speaking if an employer take care of their employees and compensate their employees fairly than that employee will become one of their best
asset. Five Guys demonstrate they have good standards and values in meeting the needs of employees and accommodating them.
Another practice Five Guys uses is sending secret shoppers to its stores to make sure they are up to the Five Guys ' standard of service. There are
weekly, monthly and quarterly programs that award crew members based on the shoppers ' reports. This shows the Murrells take the business code of
conduct seriously, as stated by Helleriegel and Slocum (2011) "If truly

Life in Navy Boot Camp Essay
Life in Navy Boot Camp
By Jamaree Goldsby
It was a warm summer evening as I packed for Navy Boot Camp. I carefully went down the list of things I could take and ensured I didn't have
anything else. A little nervous I went to talk to my parents about my move to becoming my own man. I looked at their faces and could tell that
although they were proud they were a little nervous about their only son leaving home for the first time. My mom tried to smile but she was proud yet
nervous because I had always been her little guy so she was having a hard time letting go. After a short conversation with my parents I decided to try
and rest for the long journey ahead.
Its now 5 o'clock in the morning and I'm up to shower and get ready ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first night I can honestly say I missed my folks and at one point wanted to cry but I pushed on. I knew I had to do this for me and them, I had to
show myself first and them second that I had what it took to make it.
Day two and forward we woke up at 4 am with yelling and screaming that we had 15 minutes to shower, shave and get in line for physical training
and breakfast. Everything was 15 to 20 minutes including eating; you learn to eat real quickly. Training was tough but as the weeks went on it got
easier. Then around week 4 we had to swim, I was never a strong swimmer so I was nervous but I made it through. Around week five it seemed they
got a little easier and then explained that the toughness was to help us rely on each other and build the necessary teamwork within us all.
As time went on we had learned the entire Chain of Command, proper Navy rules and how to properly wear all the uniforms and the seasonal
changes for whites and blues. As the 8th week came we got ready for graduation. Everyone was ready to show their parents how much they had grown
up in the last two months. Part of growing up was proper grooming, making our beds and being responsible and accountable for each other.
Some of the guys in my company sat around the night before talking about some of the hard times in boot camp. I talked about the hard part for me
was the fire fighting training and taking off that gas mask,

Michael Kimmel's Impact Of The Media On Men
Impact of the Media on Men When boys are young they are told to toughen up or to stop acting like a girl when they are sad or want to cry.
Michael Kimmel, author of "Bros Before Hos": The Guy Code, discusses how there is a code guys are supposed to follow and how being taught
natural behaviors, such as crying or talking about emotions, are wrong at a young age negatively impacts boys for their whole life. Emily Smith, the
author of Life on the Island, talks about how a decrease in places that have a feeling of community increases the suicide rate among men. Everyone tells
boys to act a certain way their father, coach, even people they don't know, but this is not the only place they hear these negative statements. Television
and magazine advertisements often depict men in an unrealistic way that feels unachievable and because of this young boys who view these ads feel
negatively about themselves and because of the guy code they can't share their feelings and emotions which can lead to depression or even suicide.
Almost everyone is exposed to advertisements when they are children. Ads are everywhere and they make people feel a certain way towards what
they are trying to sell even if the people involved feel unaffected. Ads are supposed to do this and can make their audience feel happy, but there is a
chance that they will do the opposite. Many ads make men feel like they are not strong or tough enough. A study done on the effects of media images
from magazines on the body and self–Esteem said, "Men's Health and GQ both focus primarily on men's bodies and send very overt messages about
what men should look like. Therefore, it may be very easy for men who read these magazines to feel as though they do not measure up" (Hobza,
Cody L., et al. 168). Ads in magazines or on tv don't usually show men crying or talking about their emotions with their friends because that is
something men are not supposed to do; instead ads show them being strong, tough, and emotionally stable. When guys or advertisements make other
guys feel like they are not good enough or strong enough, they have to deal with it themselves because they don't want to be emasculated by their
friends and family. Some men may feel like there is

Robert Olen Butler is an author born in Granite City,...
Robert Olen Butler is an author born in Granite City, Illinois who won a Pulitzer Prize. In writing this short story, "Jealous Husband Returns in
Form of Parrot", Robert Olen Butler writes about a character whose life revolves around his wife and is a compulsively jealous husband. In this story,
the main character was a very jealous husband who dies because of the way he decided to deal with his wife's cheating ways by climbing a tree and
falling to his death, only to come back in life as a parrot and still have very strong feeling for his wife. The jealousy and suspicion that took over his
human life has now taken over to his life as a parrot. The tone of the story is frustration and jealousy at which you can tell the tone from the very ...

The husband seemed very helpless without her in his life "When we held each other, I had no past at all, no present but her body, no future but to lie
there and not let her go." (Butler, 1995, pg189). He was aware that his wife engaging in an affair with another man, but he accepted it because he was
more fearful of losing her, even though he wanted to know he would never confront her with the truth. He knew he was a fool for her because he
had to remind himself how he is not stupid and how he has to lock himself into the bathroom in order to hide his rage. His life was similar living as
a human and a bird. As a human he locked himself inside the bathroom and as a bird he was locked inside a cage and in both situations he was
unable to express how he feels because there was something always holding him back. The last thing he wanted was for his wife to hate him by
bringing up other men she is having affairs with. The husband's Behavior is what eventually leads to his death in both lives, he falls from a tree in
his human life and dies and when he was a bird he had that same jealousy so when he seen his wife bring in multiple men he could not stand to see it
anymore so he tries to fly away from the house his wife and him once shared but end up falling and dying towards the end.

Creative Story : A Short Story
As i'm looking at this body lying in the road I wonder to myself who this guy might be and what happened to him. I'm going to get to the bottom of
this case. I take a look at the contents of stuff in his pocket and see if I can figure anything at by just looking at his things. I decide to head into
town that is nearby and see if he is from there. While the drive to town was quiet the town was as any other town would be, noisy and busy. I stop
at the nearest bar that I can find. I go inside and see if I can find anything out about our dead man. The bartender who I speak to tells me her name is
sara, I show her the picture of the man. She says that's Rick Prattz, he comes in every tuesday and plays pool with a few other guys that come here
every tuesday. I now know what those quarters in his pocket were from. She also mentioned that he was a very well known guy in this town, everyone
seemed to like him. I ask if she might know his address and she writes it down, and i leave. I drive around the town until i come up on his house. I
start to walk up the driveway and stop and thinks to myself about how i'm going to get inside. Then it hits me, I have the key that was in his pocket. I
keep walking and when I get to the front door I try the key on the door and to my liking it worked. I walked in and started looking around for any
clues why he might have been found in the road dead. There are tons of pictures of him and the same girl found in the picture he had in his pocket. I

Descriptive Writing In Catcher In The Rye
Mr. Spencer& Ackley's Descriptive writing The Catcher in The Rye is about a seventeen–year–old boy Named Holden who is in a mental hospital.
Having a flashback about what happened last December when he was 16 and just got kicked out of Pence prep in the story he is trying to discover
the world. Confused about everything does poorly in school and shows depression in hatred for everyone and everything. Throughout the story he
meets people that impact his life like Mr. Spencer and Robert Ackley. Mr. Spencer a seventy
–year–old man, who is Holden's history teacher. You may
still wonder why he is even teaching at his age if you really think about it. Old and gross two words that come out of readers mind's when reading
the story. "The minute I went in, I was sorry of I'd come he was reading the Atlantic monthly , and there were pills and medicine all over the place
and everything smelled like Vicks Nose Drops it was pretty depressing I'm not too crazy about sick people anyway what made it more depressing ,
old spencer had on this very sad , ratty old bathrobe that he was probably born in it or something I don't much like to see old guys in their pajamas
and bathrobes anyway" this introduces us to the way adults view Holden and they he views them in return this a big lack of understanding Mr .
Spencer dosen't know what's wrong with Holden but he wants to help by lecturing Holden.
Mr. Spencer is a very nice teacher the character in the story seems to have a connection with him. Even if he failed Holden for not writing his essay
on the Egyptians like he should've have old Spencer cares for him deeply. I'd like to put a sense in that head of yours boy I'm trying to help you If I
can" Holden thought different of all the teachers Mr spencer made a big difference but that didn't mean he would change that still gives the reader a
thought on Mr. Spencer never giving up and having faith that someday things would change.
Robert Ackley a former roommate of Holden's has many weaknesses. Ackley is dirty, pimply, and all
–around unhygienic he's annoying. He'll come
into your room and pick your personal stuff and put it back in the wrong place. He thinks being two years older than Holden makes him superior was

Analysis Of The Details Of Why Nice Guys Finish Last By...
Rozik Jemyan
Philosophy 101
Monday Night
Upon reviewing the details of Why Nice Guys Finish Last, the author Julia Serano emphasizes that with society being the way it is, men tend to
become "bad boys" because society and culture is brought up to believe that the way to win a womans heart and attention is by being sexually
aggressive. Julia Serano argues that in order to recognize rape culture, we must first learn to understand the predator / prey mindset. In this essay, I
will argue that in order to neutralize the predator / prey mindset, society needs to stop looking at women as the prey and the men as the predators. I
believe that if society learns how to overlook men as being hunters and women as the prey, that would make the amount of rape occurrences drop
massively.
In my past experiences I have ubiquitously heard throughout my life: Nice guys finish last. Women don 't want a man that is sweet and sensitive
because it is a speculation that all women want a "real man." The comprehension of a real man in this society is taught to be someone who is dominant,
someone who leads and takes control. Nice guys continuously get turned down by women because women are accustomed to see the sympathetic man
as being unnatural and bizarre. In my opinion, dominance and sexual aggression are the key ingredients in capturing a woman 's attention. Womens
brains are stimulated automatically to set one 's sights on a man who can protect them. Which is why they fall towards the sexual

A Narrative Essay On A Fair
"What should we get on first when we get there?" asked Becky. "I don't know. How about we get on the ferris wheel first, it looks super fun." said
Lisa as they were riding in her mom's car on the way to the fair. They were so excited to finally be able to go to the fair since last year they had to
shut it down early. "I wonder why they shut it down last year because it wasn't on the news. Everyone said that it was because someone died."
"Yes, that's exactly the reason it shut down, how did you not know that?" Becky said. FInally they arrived at the fair and got out of the car. "Don't
forget you guys have about 6 hours here then meet me by the theater parking lot at 8:30. So have fun and watch out for weirdos because you guys
heard about what happened last year at the fair. Just be careful." Lisa's mom said, "Don't do anything stupid," she said as she began to drive off.
After that Becky and Lisa went to go purchase their tickets for the fair. They began to get very excited as they were walking closer and closer to
the big rides, amazing smells of burritos and pizza, and people screaming of joy. "Hurry up I want to get on the ferris wheel before the line gets
super long. And we have to get on the that one ride that spins diagonally. We have to do so many thing while we're here so hurry up." Lisa
exclaimed to Becky as she was tying her shoes. When she was finished they walked fastly to the long line for the ferris wheel. Time seemed to go on

Personal Narrative: Trenching Up To Some Chicks
This is a funny thing to watch people do. I've had my moments of puckering up to some chick, hoping to get the tang but 90% of the time, it was a
huge failure. This was in my "less experienced" days. I never was the kind of person to kiss ass at work. But really, why? I can't tell you the number
of guys I see on Facebook admonishing their lady, making edited pictures, tagging in statuses, all kinds of corny shit. Just so he can still be
unappreciated at the end of the day. Trust me, I know that feeling and it sucks. It is even more gut wrenching when you find out she's been letting
everyone in her cookie jar except you. And for those skill–deficient corporate lackeys who stay attached to the boss's butt, its comedy gold to watch.

Lady Brett Ashley in The Sun Also Rises Essay
Lady Brett Ashley was a very important character in the book The Sun Also Rises. She had it all, she was pretty, and she had four guys ogling over
her. Four guys!!!! She was independent, she could do whatever she wanted. She was definitely not sympathetic however, nore would she be a good
role model for anyone because yes, she does treat her male friends cruelly. Lets start with her relationships with the guys. She can basically get
whatever she wants, they will do anything for her, because they find her so attractive. Even if they want something in return, she will be happy to give
it to them, she has it all. However that is all she does, she moves from guy to guy like she does not even care. Which by the way, she does not. Basically,

She was unlike anything they had ever seen or would ever get to see again. She was different, but in a good way. She was one of them. Mike once
compared her to circe, a character in a Greek myth who lured in men and then she transformed them into animals. Brett just wants sex without love,
instead of the other way around like Jake.
Brett had good and bad qualities. She was not all bad. I personally would not pick her for a role model but I will admit she had some admirable
qualities. For example, the way she changed over the course of the novel. At first she did not really care about anyone or anything but herself. Then
she began to realize what she did to people and she began to consider the feeling a of others as well as her own. If her relationship with Pedro had
occurred at the beginning of the novel, she probably would have given no thought to what effects their relationship would have on him. However,
by the end of the novel she had gained the understanding to know that he should do what is right, put away her own feelings, and leave him for his
own good. She could be used as a role model because of her liberty. She is never tied down, as if she is floating in the breeze, aimlessly wandering
from place to place. She does not conform. She does what she wants when she wants and does not let other people tell her what to do. She is
dependent on no one in the sense that she does not care what others think. However, at the same time, she is

A Conversation With A Serial Killer On The Loose
I remember seeing and hearing his name on the news. To be honest I was so intrigued and there was just this feeling like I knew him. He was a so
called rapist and killer, I became so interested in him I read newspapers and watched so many news reports on him. They never caught him so they
only had sketches of what they thought he looked like...So it started when I was in my room listening to music on my IPod. You see I 'm not the kind
of girl who obeys rules or respects anyone or anything. I don 't care about consquences, I never really think things threw. So being the way I am, I
would sneak out every night around 3 a.m, the witching hour. Yeah I know I know. "What?! Why would you sneak out with a serial killer on the

Is It Shutting Down?
From a distance a noise erupted and Phillip's first instinct was to hide ducking behind the nearest of the tubes like the one he had just come out of.
From his cover, he then peered around like a scarred rabbit looking for whatever caused the noise, but it didn't take long to spot what had caused the
ruckus. It was some type of small transport or personal–sized vehicle which was similar to ones he saw in old photographs that were commonly used
years ago to play a game called golf. Soon, there was another one, each containing only one occupant, men in a grey uniforms, black boots, and who
had donned hats with an insignia on it. "Error, error... Capsulate, Sigma, Zeta, Upsilon, Omicron, 58324 has reached critical safety threshold. Memorex

which spit the ocean of tubes, Phillip watched him as he disappeared from view. With the littleguy out of view, he then focused his attention on the
larger, older looking male who remained in the area. This guy was now busy writing something down on a piece of white paper attached to metal

Personal Narrative : A Personal Experience On Life
The job training location was a great opportunity to interact and learn about being productive in the workforce. It also was good opportunity to meet
girls and guys from all over the city. We got paid biweekly for attending 4–6 hours' classes in the afternoon 4 or 5 days a week.
After the first few days, a guy named Pone and I meshed instantly. We began hanging out after class and shared many of the same views in regards
to life. Pone was from down Passyunk projects, which was located at the bottom of our city literally. When we used to talk, I could see that he had
some unique street smarts on the real. His outlook on life, women, rap, clothes, and people was more advanced than anyone I came across. I felt like
a student sucking up knowledge from the brother. The ladies fell for him although he didn't fall for them. He was just straightforward and direct to the
point. Pone didn't accept a word unless it was backed with proof. That was unheard of especially from people in our age group.
Sometimes, after the Phil–A–Job gig, we would hit up liquor stores and headed up Nicetown, Passyunk or the Yunk as others know it, or down
Center City. Pone introduced me to Kool K, Bal, Da, and others from the Southside. Once we got together, we'd put our money up and buy Old E,

The Environmental Technology Program At S.a.i.t
The program that I have choose to study is the Environmental technology program at S.A.I.T and this is important not because I want to shut
down all the "dirty energy" companies that work in the oil and gas or coal sector but because I want to make them better and more sustainable so
that the resources will last longer. More people should think this way because the world needs these companies to survive and it would be
economic suicide to shut just oil and gas down, look at what is happening right now and it is only a down turn. But if new technology is created
and new methods are put into place then what is now seen as the worst form of energy environmentally it can be seen as something that is more
sustainable with less of an environmental impact. This is what my program focuses on, how to reduce waste and how to treat the waste that is
created, so when it is either released back into the environment or there is a spill or leak that it will not be as harmful. The environmental technology
program will help get more women into the science field which will then advance them in the working world. This program will draw women in
because it can be seen less threatening then say a petroleum technology program where it is mostly men. But we are taught how to do things in the lab,
out in the field, and behind a desk and in many different types businesses such as agriculture, water treatment, oil and gas, pulp and paper, and many
others. It provides many options for women to get

Themes Of Home Alone And Ransom Of Red Chief
The theme of a story is the moral message or lesson of a story. There are many themes in Home Alone and Ransom of Red Chief but the one that
stood out to me the most was that the looks of people can be extremely different from their actions. In the story Ransom of Red Chief the story states
"The kid was a freckle–faced boy of ten with freckles that stood out. His hair was the color of the cover of the magazine you buy at the newsstand
when you want to catch a train. Hey little boy! Says Bill Would you like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride? The boy hits Bill square in the eye
with a piece of brick". This illustrates that most people who read this story think he is a good kid by his looks until you read where he hits Bill in the
head with a brick. Bill thought he was a good kid but Bill learned the hard way. In a scene from Home Alone the bad guys are looking through the
house window and think he's a helpless little boy, but when they try to get into the house they see he's not at all what he looks like. Kevin made the
steps icey so they would slip, put a blow torch above the door so it would burn their hair and made an iron fall on Marv's face. This reveals that
people first judge others based on their looks but they don't truly know what they are like. Kevin and Johnny look like innocent people but they have
another side.
The characters in Ransom of Red Chief and Home Alone are very similar. Kevin and Johnny are both very mischievous and very rowdy. In the
story Ransom of Red Chief it states "He was throwing rocks at a kitten on a fence." This reveals the actions Johnny does and how he can be
mischievous. Johnny was throwing rocks at a kitten for no reason. In one scene from the movie Kevin was using cardboard people or dummy's and
hooked them up with string so the fake people could move when the bad guys drove past the house. This shows Kevin was thinking outside the box
but was also being mischievous at the Same time. Kevin hooked the strings onto the dummy's so the bad guys would think someone was home when
they drove by because Kevin would be pulling the strings and they would be constantly moving. Kevin was thinking outside the box when he used his
brother's cardboard cutout of Michael

The Road Essay
In Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road "the man" and "the boy" refer to themselves as "the good guys" compared to "the bad guys". While reading
this book I was lead to believe that "the boy" is truly the only "good guy" left, because "the man" and every other character that I encountered in this
book share some of the same qualities as "the bad guys". The boy constantly begs his father to be sympathetic and charitable to the drifters that they
encounter on the road, but the father usually refuses or either puts up an argument before finally giving into the boy, and handing over one or two cans
of food to the stranger. Although "theman" is in survival mode, he expresses no compassion for humanity and therefore represents "the ... Show more

Another passage in the book that also led to my conclusion about "the man" was when he and "the boy" had just hit the jackpot in the underground
hideout; they had stocked up on food in their buggy and had just about more than they could carry, as they started back on their journey they come
across an old man walking down the road. "Maybe we could give him something to eat." "He looked off down the road." Damn, he whispered."
"He looked down at the old man." Perhaps he'd turn into a god and they to trees." "All right, he said." "He untied the tarp and folded it back and
rummaged through the canned goods and came up with a tin of fruit cocktail and took the can opener from his pocket and opened the tin and folded
back the lid and walked over and squatted and handed it to the boy." "What about a spoon?" "He's not getting a spoon."(McCarthy 163). I believe the
only reason "the man" gave in so easily in this situation was because they had been very fortunate in their findings, I sense that "the man" feared that
if he was not at least a tad bit generous, that bad karma might just shadow him. After the stranger on the road had finished eating the can of fruit "...he
sat holding the empty tin and looking down into it as if more might appear." "What do you want to give him?" "What do you think he should have?"
(McCarthy 164). "I don't think he should have anything."(McCarthy 165). Here "the man's" generosity is

Persuasive Essay On Religion
You might as well cut off your entire personality under the roof of religious parents, or at least learn to pretend you are someone else in front of
them. There is no having your own beliefs, being gay or being with someone of another race. You learn to find excuses on why you haven't found
yourself a white, Christian man like "I don't know mom, I guess God hasn't provided him for me yet," when really the only guy you're looking for is in
fact a woman. If you came out of the closet, of course, you can bet God will strike you down with a bolt of lightning and your family will shun
you. You also have to be cautious of when you say you don't believe in God, because really you do, you've just turned away from him. You get to
go to church a little more because your family thinks that Satan has gotten a hold on you. What you need to do is wipe away any free will you
think you have and get on your knees and pray to God for redemption. Get use to the white walls around you because when they find out you have a
happy relationship with a black boy you will never see another room beside your own. I like to call this one House Arrest.
That's where I'm at now. No more phone, no more going outside, no more even walking to the bus stop without my mom by my side. I'd like to state
for the record that I do not enjoy lying to my parents. I wish that I could be open and honest with them, but their minds are set on two things; they must
be white and they must be Christian.

Man Bun Hairtyle Analysis
What is a man bun hairstyle?
The man bun isn't just a mens hairstyle that popped up casually in 2014, which is what most guys believe since these days about 98% of hipsters
wear a manbun. Plenty of long haired men over the years have styled their hair into a manbun, and this hairstyle was simply called a "bun"; just like
women too call the hairstyle a "bun". How do I know this? Because I have had long hair for many years, and the hairstyle name of a "man bun" is
something that doesn't resonate with any long haired dude who had been growing his long tresses prior to 2011.
The term "man bun", however, refers to the particular placing of a bun on a male's head as a trendy hairstyle, for which this guide is all about. The
man bun is also known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The full bun uses all the hair on the head to make the bun; thus, when styling your manbun, you will be grabbing all the hair on your head (sides and
back included) and be trying it all into a single bun.
A male model with man bun and beard styleBecause the full manbun requires all the hair on the head to be used, you do need more hair length for it.
You will need at least 9 inches of hair length for the (full) man bun, although I'd err on the side of caution and shoot for 10 inches of hair length for
your manbun (I always recommend ten inches of hair length for the man bun too). You want to have enough hair length on your head so as to not have

Power In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
Power is defined as "the possession of control or command over others; authority..." (Dictionary.com), and all people have power, whether they notice
it or not. Though some employ their power for respectable reasons, often times power is not used in honorable ways. The matter of abuse of authority
is prevalent in the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck illustrates that those who have power abuse it exceedingly often, as shown by
Curley attacking countless others, including Lennie, a mentally disabled man, Curley's wife mistreating the men of the ranch, and Curley's wife making
demeaning comments about Crooks, the African American stable buck. First, Curley exploits the reality that his father is the owner of the ranch, where

thing and gets licked. Then ever'body says the big guy oughtta pick somebody his own size, and maybe they gang up on the big guy.'" (Steinbeck, 26).
Curley's influence over the other men convinces them that he is supreme and no one can be better, thus resulting in a shameful battle between Curley
and the detested man. His need to prove his seniority usurps Curley's mind, and drives him psychotic until able to show himself better. This need, in
turn, forces the men into a position where they must assist Curley or potentially lose their job because of the influence Curley can have on his father,
resulting in the man whom Curley has quarrels with being harmed. Additionally, Curley elects to fight other men for any type of provocation. For
instance, he asked Lennie, a mentally disabled man, "'What...you laughin' at?...Get up on your feet...I'll show ya...'" (Steinbeck, 62) when Lennie had
been smiling innocently while absorbed in thoughts of the farm he and George were going to own. As a result, the men engaged in an altercation in

Analysis Of Dave Barry 's ' Guys Vs. Men '
Within his piece, Guys Vs. Men, Dave Barry articulates the different perspectives available on viewing males. Throughout his piece he utilizes a
satirical tone to showcase this idea. The audience that Dave Barry is attempting to convey his message to is the general public. I believe this to be an
appropriate assessment as the level of language employed by Dave Barry, throughout his piece, lacks complexity. His use of satire also helps to
identify the audience. This is because the use of humour can be seen as a way to capture the attention of a reader quickly in hopes that the reader
continues, and ultimately finishes the article. Using these as evidence I can conclude the audience being targeted is the general public. Dave Barry's
thesis, which can be located in paragraph one, stating "that there's another way to look at males: not as aggressive macho dominators; not as sensitive,
liberated, hugging drummers; but as guys." Within his thesis, Dave Barry expresses how the stereotypes that define a male are not the only points of
view of a male. He conveys that there are other perspectives available on how males can be viewed, and one of them is simply to view males as guys.
In his body paragraphs, Dave Barry proceeds to explain the various characteristics that make up, and are exhibited by, guys. The Characteristics he
mainly emphasises are how "Guys Like Neat Stuff", how "Guys Like a Really Pointless Challenge", and finally how "Guys Do Not Have a Ridged and

Absent Father : The American Traditional Home
Absent Father The American traditional home includes a mother, father, two kids, and a pet living in a suburban friendly neighborhood. For many
people, this traditional family does not apply to how they grew up or their lifestyle. Growing up without one of those elements of the family can
influence how the child will grow up and their different perceptions of dealing with different people in various situations. The trouble with an
absentee father affects both girls and boys in multiple ways that can change the way they look at people and their response to others. Teens with a
father in their life behave differently than teens without. They perceive the world differently and deal with certain situations in an alternative way. For
boys with a father, they are seemed to be more aggressive and tough. Since they grew up with a father figure they know that they are supposed to be
strong and look after the family when needed. During a relationship with a significant other boys watch their father treat their significant other with
respect so they are aware of how to treat a woman. For girls with fathers, they feel like they are safe and able to lean on their fathers when they feel all
alone. The encouragement from their fathers help the girl to know what a guy may be thinking, including the actions that correspond. The girls with
fathers also tend to look at various guys with some level of respect and trust them due to the positive actions of their father. Boys and girls differ

My Guide to Attracting Guys
You may feel like it can be impossible to get a guy to truly notice you. There are different ways of showcasing your personality and appearance to
achieve more attention from guys. It can prove to be quite difficult at times if you're not sure how to be seen around them. By following my guide on
'how to attract guys' you will be a couple steps closer to finding your dream guy.
There are certain ways you can portray your personality aimed at a guy; they are most likely to notice a girl that loves who she is, who is
confident, bold and is not afraid to joke around and make him laugh. Smiling to show that you're having a good time, keeping eye contact with him
so that he knows he's got your undivided attention and do not forget to laugh at his jokes; this is a big one, even if they are not funny. If you don't
laugh it can lead to a really awkward situation and so can putting on a ridiculous laugh, he might no longer think you are interested. Make sure you
keep the conversation going, ask questions, talk about yourself, school, family, hobbies, but try not to get too personal. Make sure that you don't talk
too much and overload him with information, give him a chance to get a few words in and answer rather than leaving him sitting there listening to you
blabber on.
Your Hygiene, guys don't want to be spending a night with a girl that looks and smells bad. Make sure you are showering regularly, at least once a day.

The French Theorist Guy Debord
In 1967, the french theorist Guy Debord, outlined his concept for a future spectacle society, whereby ..... "Quote about capital". Presented as a
treatise on the modern humman condition; Society of the Spectacle is a piece that explores the contemporary effects of power, which it seems in
more recent times are becoming increasingly tied with the idea of a media and consumer society; a system based off the production and consumption
of images, information and commodities. In the discourse of arhcitecture specifically, it seems Debords predictions have bled into the culture of
modern design, as expressed by Anthony Vidler: "Recent proposals and debates over the architectutural devlopment of ground zero have highlighted
the way in which, over the last two decades, the public role of architecture has been gradually reduced to the symbolic and the emblematic. Its forms
of expresion are no longer closely tied back to urban issues and physical planning questions." (Toward a theory of the architectural program, antohny
vidler, page 1) These discussions and critiques, indeed, seem to bear out Guy Debords 1964 anticipation of an all–pervading spectacle culture where in
essense, we have moved into a system of architecture overinvested in symbolic form, "where flash and bravura win out over contemplation". (– nordic

A Book Report On The Movie ' Nope ' Essay
Two and a half months ago, faith brought me to face with a guy who I used to consider horrible boyfriend material. He came off as rude, stubborn,

My Dreams Of My Life
I grew up in a small southern town, so my parents have this image of what they expect my life to be like. They expect their baby girl to go to college
for teaching or agriculture. They also expect that I will be stable enough to be on my own and completely support myself by the age of twenty–one.
They even expect for me to marry a country boy who can help out around home if need be. So far I have not met their expectations at all, and they
still manage to be proud of just about every decision I make.
Although my parents wanted me to go to school for teaching or agriculture, I started nursing school my senior year of high school. They didn't think
that I would stick with nursing so it was no big deal when I was sixteen or seventeen, and decided that was the path I wanted to take with my life. A

SUV VS GUYS
As the years have gone on we have seen many changes in the differences and roles of gender. Little have we thought of seeing cars taking a role of
gender, in this case an SUV. SUVs have taken the role of a male with a feminine touch. Dave Barry's Guys vs. Men is a funny, interesting and in fact
true effort at explaining who guys really are, and why they are that way.
Reptile Dreams focuses more on characteristics of an SUV that reflect the characteristics of men. Both authors produced a strategically strong essay in
reference to their point of view with their own personal touch using a topic that they know most about.

"My theory is the reptilian always wins,' he said, 'If there's a crash, I want the other guy to die. Of course, I can't say that aloud." Hence, the rationale
for owning an SUV, and willingness to put others at risk rather than themselves in a crash situation. Again, questioning the rules of moral behavior. "For
Rapaille, the archetype of a sport utility vehicle reflects the reptilian desire for survival. People buy SUVs, he tells auto executives, because they are
trying to look as menacing as possible to allay their fears of crime and other violence. The Jeep has always had this image around the world because of
it its heavy use in war movies and frequent appearances in newsreels from the 1940's and 1950's, and newer SUVs share the image."

the result of guys having the need to have stuff such as star wars, nuclear weapons, and such items that are in the extends of that genre. as to
differentiate with the characteristics of a women, he used the example of a women and her living room design arrangement. Whereas a women find
the need to rearrange the original position of their furniture and would cheerfully use the same computer for years, oppose to guys, they do not have a
basic need to rearrange furniture nor keep a computer that is outdated. Dave

Personal Media Manifesto Essay
Personal Media Manifesto Media usage can be a positive thing, it benefits many businesses as a way to promote their brand and items, as well as
creates networks for young entrepreneurs. Media usage however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to people as
well as portraying a false image of what one should look like. Media is a blank canvas for young minds to express themselves, and it is advancing
so fast that it is being integrated in our everyday lives. Which ever way you look at it, media can be interpreted in many different ways, as the
consumers are all different and have all had many different experiences. I personally try not to let the media surrounding my life affect how I
think, it is just hard, because even though I am aware of it I still tend to let it get to me because it is in almost every aspect of my life. I personally
do not use media as much as society tends to interpret about my generation and peers. I limit myself and have control over how much time I spend
on my social accounts. I have one Instagram account and a snapchat account. Instagram was originally made to allow users to post pictures and it is
now used for news, pictures, videos, direct messages and much more. These changes have been added because of the demand that lies within its users,
who get easily bored. Almost every time I log onto my account I see pictures of nearly naked women and inappropriate comments from men. What is

Summary Of Guy Debord's 'Society Of The Spectacle'
Throughout history there have been many well–known philosophers. Through this paper I will be discussing the perspectives of philosophers Guy
Debord, Michel Foucault, and John Rawls. In Guy Debord's, "The Society of the Spectacle" he makes critics of technological capitalism. In Michel
Foucault's, "Power/Knowledge" he goes over different types of power and how they are interpreted.
Debord was a situationist international, which meant creating situations or creating situations. Referring to the several theses in Debord's novel I can
say that "the society of the spectacle" "...is not a collection of images; rather, it is a social relationship between people that is mediated by images"
(Derbord, 12). This shows that it is not only a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumable survival must increase, in fact, because it continues to enshrine deprivation. The reason there is nothing beyond augmented survival, and
no end to its growth, is that survival itself belongs to the realm of dispossession: it may gild poverty, but it cannot transcend it (Debord, 30)." This
explains that the people are consumers of illusions; it blindsides the people from reality and only allows them to only be aware of what society or
social media wants them to know.
In Michel Foucault's, "Power/ Knowledge", there are two chapters titled "Truth and Power" and "The Eye of the Power". Foucault's conception of
power is that power is everywhere. Everyone has power and has the ability to make use of their power, but often times citizens don't make use of
their power. It seems that they are in fear of those who enforce their power already, which prevents them to make use of their power. An everyday
individual sees power to be in the hands of who the people have "chosen". We should not always think about power as the private property of
government or state, but rather as an equal common ground for all of those who share the land. It is not the state that doesn't matter, but the power is
bigger than the state; although the state has power, it does not have all power. A

Sex in the City by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo Essay
I bought this book when I was in class 8th and had an enormous crush on a guy who liked by then best friend. I loved the book so much that I
recommended it to and even passed around my copy to help those who weren't sure as to what was going on in their lives. Yes, I bought the book. I
was 14 then. The book was intended to empower girls to stop waiting for disinterested guys. And it did emancipate the 14years old me from the
unending pain! I realized that if a guy liked me, he would make it obvious by telling me so, calling me regularly, taking me out, etc. and if he does
not do all this, he is not interested in me. My world was suddenly black and white.

They say so because although it seems that the guy gave the girl the control of the situation, in reality of the authors' world, this means that HE gets to
choose whether to pick up her call or not. However on planet Earth, the girl could have just called to fix a date.
And then there were dodgy suggestions like how a woman should never ever ask a man out because men are conditioned to lead. The guy could be as
unsure of your feelings as you are of his, or he could be shy! I say WHY NOT ask a man out!
Many women play the martyr in relationships with men who don't treat them well because many women feel so devoted to their partners that they are
afraid of losing them. They sometimes delude themselves with fantasies about why the partner still loves them despite all the signs pointing otherwise.
This isn't gender specific! Guys are just as delusional as women when in love! They too would try to save the relationship by 'playing the martyr'.
Real life is not so black and white, and this highly sexist, misogynistic book assumes that it is. Unluckily, relationships are perilously perched in the
grey and that's what makes them hard and complicated. We are humans after all. We hurt and shape each other all the time. It is unfair to hold men
responsible for initiating all hetero relationships, casual or serious. Men are equally affected by work pressure, family environment and heartbreaks!

It Is A Water Purification System
It is a hot 92 degrees fahrenheit, blistering sunny day the small communities of Amaya, Torencio, and El Porvenir in Nicaragua. The dress code for
guys: long pants, closed toed shoes, t–shirt with sleeves, and hats optional. The dress code for girls: pants or capris, closed toed shoes, crew neck
shirts with sleeves, and no tight fitting articles of clothing would be allowed. In the communities tasks of digging a trench, installing a water
purification system, home visits, and of course playing with the kids were handed out. Work in the morning and play in the afternoon. Then the
team boarded two small buses/vans, and returned to a fairly nice hotel with a pool and dinner awaiting. Then the nightly team debriefs and bed
shortly after to do it again. Then before you know it you are standing there surrounded by shouting kids, many hugs, the phrase "adios" said
between the sniffles of runny noses and tear streamed faces. Hundreds of pictures are being taken to add to the thousands from the week all in
hopes of getting that one picture or a few memorable moments that will be on the picture slideshow. Then returning home is exhausting as is trying
to sleep during the layovers and rediscovering "American food" which you had a week ago but it feels as if it has been weeks. The questions that
are always asked are: what did you do? what did you learn? how did you see God? The response frequently begins with the pronoun I and a
comparison of the different situations begins either in

Ackley's Descriptive Writing In The Catcher In The Rye
Mr. Spencer & Ackley's Descriptive writing The Catcher in The Rye is about a seventeen
–year–old boy Named Holden who is in a mental hospital.
Having a flashback about what happened last December when he was 16 and just got kicked out of Pencey prep in the story he is trying to discover
the world. Confused about everything does poorly in school and shows depression in hatred for everyone and everything. Throughout the story he
meets people that impact his life like Mr. Spencer and Robert Ackley. Mr. Spencer a seventy
–year–old man, who is Holden's history teacher. You may
still wonder why he even teaches at his age if you really think about it. Old and gross two words that come out of readers mind's when reading the
story. "The minute I went in, I was sorry I'd come he was reading the Atlantic Monthly , and there were pills and medicine all over the place and
everything smelled like Vicks Nose Drops it was pretty depressing, I'm not too crazy about sick people anyway ,what made it more depressing ,
old spencer had on this very sad , ratty old bathrobe that he was probably born in it or something, I don't much like to see old guys in their pajamas
and bathrobes anyway" (11) this introduces us to the way adults view Holden and the way he views them in return this a big lack of understanding
Mr . Spencer dosen't know what's wrong with Holden but he wants to help by lecturing Him. Mr. Spencer is a very nice teacher the character in
the story seems to have a connection with Holden. Even if he failed Holden for not writing his essay on the Egyptians, like he should've had old
Spencer cares for him deeply. I'd like to put a sense in that head of yours boy I'm trying to help you If I can" (20) Holden thought differently than his
teachers. Mr. Spencer made a big difference, but that didn't mean he would be the change that still gives the reader a thought on Mr. Spencer never
giving up and having faith that someday things would change for Holden. Robert Ackley a former roommate of Holden's has many weaknesses.
Ackley is dirty, pimply, and all–around unhygienic he's annoying. He'll come into your room and pick your personal stuff and put it back in the wrong
place. He thinks being two years older than Holden and six

Portrayal Analysis Of Old Spice
Old spice is a very important brand for men, but not many people would know that Old Spice was originally made for women. Until little before
Christmas time of 1937 Shulton Company sales were doing well and figured they could do better by transitioning into men products which began the
Old Spice we know today. Over the years the company grew into selling shaving soap, aftershave lotion, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body wash
and body sprays leading to high selling products and manly ads that changed the advertisement game.
Most ads use high movie stars or athletes to grab people's attention for their product. Old Spice is one of the few who doesn't just depend on their
voice but their physical features to grab everyone's attention. Men like Terry Cruz, Ray Lewis, and Isaiah Mustafa with muscles and a 6 pack to make
the ladies go crazy. Putting them on an ad grabs the female's attention whether they have a man or not, they want their boyfriend or husband to be like
them. Buying that product that Isaiah Mustafa was in is bond to make their man become somewhat like him especially if Isaiah tells you to become the
man that he is.
In the ad that Isaiah Mustafa is featured in, you can see a white soap bubble made motorcycle in a bath tub with Isaiah having long bubble hair with
a manly mustache, wearing only a vest to show his abs. There is a pretty looking female looking up to him with awe and wonder clearly attracted to
him by her body tones. Isaiah is holding a red Old

Five Guys

  • 1. Five Guys The Five Guys mission statement, as simple as its menu, is aligned with the philosophy that if you 're going to sell hamburgers and fries in a restaurant industry that has a lot of hamburger–french–fries business, you 'd better do hamburgers and fries well than the competitors. Five Guy's focus is not to add more items to the menu, but to serve top quality burgers and fries to keep their business booming. According to Boonze and Kutrz (2012) Murrell states "We figure our best salesman is our customer", "treat that person right, he'll walk out the door and sell for you" (pg. 78). This philosophy is one of the key factors that keep Five Guy's apart from other fast–food chains. Murrell states "All of our employees at our stores, we pay them good money. I think that 's important," he says. "Hire well–paid people and they 'll stay with you." The statement is true and according to Boone and Kurtz (2012), "an organization that wants to prosper over the long term is well advised to consider business ethics". The pay for Five Guys ' employees varies by state and whether the store is corporate or a franchise, almost all of the crew–level employees make above minimum wage. Ethical speaking if an employer take care of their employees and compensate their employees fairly than that employee will become one of their best asset. Five Guys demonstrate they have good standards and values in meeting the needs of employees and accommodating them. Another practice Five Guys uses is sending secret shoppers to its stores to make sure they are up to the Five Guys ' standard of service. There are weekly, monthly and quarterly programs that award crew members based on the shoppers ' reports. This shows the Murrells take the business code of conduct seriously, as stated by Helleriegel and Slocum (2011) "If truly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Life in Navy Boot Camp Essay Life in Navy Boot Camp By Jamaree Goldsby It was a warm summer evening as I packed for Navy Boot Camp. I carefully went down the list of things I could take and ensured I didn't have anything else. A little nervous I went to talk to my parents about my move to becoming my own man. I looked at their faces and could tell that although they were proud they were a little nervous about their only son leaving home for the first time. My mom tried to smile but she was proud yet nervous because I had always been her little guy so she was having a hard time letting go. After a short conversation with my parents I decided to try and rest for the long journey ahead. Its now 5 o'clock in the morning and I'm up to shower and get ready ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first night I can honestly say I missed my folks and at one point wanted to cry but I pushed on. I knew I had to do this for me and them, I had to show myself first and them second that I had what it took to make it. Day two and forward we woke up at 4 am with yelling and screaming that we had 15 minutes to shower, shave and get in line for physical training and breakfast. Everything was 15 to 20 minutes including eating; you learn to eat real quickly. Training was tough but as the weeks went on it got easier. Then around week 4 we had to swim, I was never a strong swimmer so I was nervous but I made it through. Around week five it seemed they got a little easier and then explained that the toughness was to help us rely on each other and build the necessary teamwork within us all. As time went on we had learned the entire Chain of Command, proper Navy rules and how to properly wear all the uniforms and the seasonal changes for whites and blues. As the 8th week came we got ready for graduation. Everyone was ready to show their parents how much they had grown up in the last two months. Part of growing up was proper grooming, making our beds and being responsible and accountable for each other. Some of the guys in my company sat around the night before talking about some of the hard times in boot camp. I talked about the hard part for me was the fire fighting training and taking off that gas mask,

  • 4. Michael Kimmel's Impact Of The Media On Men Impact of the Media on Men When boys are young they are told to toughen up or to stop acting like a girl when they are sad or want to cry. Michael Kimmel, author of "Bros Before Hos": The Guy Code, discusses how there is a code guys are supposed to follow and how being taught natural behaviors, such as crying or talking about emotions, are wrong at a young age negatively impacts boys for their whole life. Emily Smith, the author of Life on the Island, talks about how a decrease in places that have a feeling of community increases the suicide rate among men. Everyone tells boys to act a certain way their father, coach, even people they don't know, but this is not the only place they hear these negative statements. Television and magazine advertisements often depict men in an unrealistic way that feels unachievable and because of this young boys who view these ads feel negatively about themselves and because of the guy code they can't share their feelings and emotions which can lead to depression or even suicide. Almost everyone is exposed to advertisements when they are children. Ads are everywhere and they make people feel a certain way towards what they are trying to sell even if the people involved feel unaffected. Ads are supposed to do this and can make their audience feel happy, but there is a chance that they will do the opposite. Many ads make men feel like they are not strong or tough enough. A study done on the effects of media images from magazines on the body and self–Esteem said, "Men's Health and GQ both focus primarily on men's bodies and send very overt messages about what men should look like. Therefore, it may be very easy for men who read these magazines to feel as though they do not measure up" (Hobza, Cody L., et al. 168). Ads in magazines or on tv don't usually show men crying or talking about their emotions with their friends because that is something men are not supposed to do; instead ads show them being strong, tough, and emotionally stable. When guys or advertisements make other guys feel like they are not good enough or strong enough, they have to deal with it themselves because they don't want to be emasculated by their friends and family. Some men may feel like there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In writing this short story, "Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot", Robert Olen Butler writes about a character whose life revolves around his wife and is a compulsively jealous husband. In this story, the main character was a very jealous husband who dies because of the way he decided to deal with his wife's cheating ways by climbing a tree and falling to his death, only to come back in life as a parrot and still have very strong feeling for his wife. The jealousy and suspicion that took over his human life has now taken over to his life as a parrot. The tone of the story is frustration and jealousy at which you can tell the tone from the very ... The husband seemed very helpless without her in his life "When we held each other, I had no past at all, no present but her body, no future but to lie there and not let her go." (Butler, 1995, pg189). He was aware that his wife engaging in an affair with another man, but he accepted it because he was more fearful of losing her, even though he wanted to know he would never confront her with the truth. He knew he was a fool for her because he had to remind himself how he is not stupid and how he has to lock himself into the bathroom in order to hide his rage. His life was similar living as a human and a bird. As a human he locked himself inside the bathroom and as a bird he was locked inside a cage and in both situations he was unable to express how he feels because there was something always holding him back. The last thing he wanted was for his wife to hate him by bringing up other men she is having affairs with. I take a look at the contents of stuff in his pocket and see if I can figure anything at by just looking at his things. I decide to head into town that is nearby and see if he is from there. While the drive to town was quiet the town was as any other town would be, noisy and busy. I stop at the nearest bar that I can find. I go inside and see if I can find anything out about our dead man. The bartender who I speak to tells me her name is sara, I show her the picture of the man. She says that's Rick Prattz, he comes in every tuesday and plays pool with a few other guys that come here every tuesday. I now know what those quarters in his pocket were from. She also mentioned that he was a very well known guy in this town, everyone seemed to like him. I ask if she might know his address and she writes it down, and i leave. I drive around the town until i come up on his house. I start to walk up the driveway and stop and thinks to myself about how i'm going to get inside. Then it hits me, I have the key that was in his pocket. I keep walking and when I get to the front door I try the key on the door and to my liking it worked. Having a flashback about what happened last December when he was 16 and just got kicked out of Pence prep in the story he is trying to discover the world. Confused about everything does poorly in school and shows depression in hatred for everyone and everything. Throughout the story he meets people that impact his life like Mr. Spencer and Robert Ackley. Mr. Spencer a seventy –year–old man, who is Holden's history teacher. You may still wonder why he is even teaching at his age if you really think about it. Old and gross two words that come out of readers mind's when reading the story. "The minute I went in, I was sorry of I'd come he was reading the Atlantic monthly , and there were pills and medicine all over the place and everything smelled like Vicks Nose Drops it was pretty depressing I'm not too crazy about sick people anyway what made it more depressing , old spencer had on this very sad , ratty old bathrobe that he was probably born in it or something I don't much like to see old guys in their pajamas and bathrobes anyway" this introduces us to the way adults view Holden and they he views them in return this a big lack of understanding Mr . Spencer dosen't know what's wrong with Holden but he wants to help by lecturing Holden. Mr. Spencer is a very nice teacher the character in the story seems to have a connection with him. • 8. Analysis Of The Details Of Why Nice Guys Finish Last By... Rozik Jemyan Philosophy 101 Monday Night Upon reviewing the details of Why Nice Guys Finish Last, the author Julia Serano emphasizes that with society being the way it is, men tend to become "bad boys" because society and culture is brought up to believe that the way to win a womans heart and attention is by being sexually aggressive. Julia Serano argues that in order to recognize rape culture, we must first learn to understand the predator / prey mindset. In this essay, I will argue that in order to neutralize the predator / prey mindset, society needs to stop looking at women as the prey and the men as the predators. I believe that if society learns how to overlook men as being hunters and women as the prey, that would make the amount of rape occurrences drop massively. In my past experiences I have ubiquitously heard throughout my life: Nice guys finish last. Women don 't want a man that is sweet and sensitive because it is a speculation that all women want a "real man." The comprehension of a real man in this society is taught to be someone who is dominant, someone who leads and takes control. Nice guys continuously get turned down by women because women are accustomed to see the sympathetic man as being unnatural and bizarre. In my opinion, dominance and sexual aggression are the key ingredients in capturing a woman 's attention. Womens brains are stimulated automatically to set one 's sights on a man who can protect them. Which is why they fall towards the sexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were so excited to finally be able to go to the fair since last year they had to shut it down early. "I wonder why they shut it down last year because it wasn't on the news. Everyone said that it was because someone died." "Yes, that's exactly the reason it shut down, how did you not know that?" Becky said. FInally they arrived at the fair and got out of the car. I personally would not pick her for a role model but I will admit she had some admirable qualities. For example, the way she changed over the course of the novel. At first she did not really care about anyone or anything but herself. Then she began to realize what she did to people and she began to consider the feeling a of others as well as her own. If her relationship with Pedro had occurred at the beginning of the novel, she probably would have given no thought to what effects their relationship would have on him. However, by the end of the novel she had gained the understanding to know that he should do what is right, put away her own feelings, and leave him for his own good. She could be used as a role model because of her liberty. She is never tied down, as if she is floating in the breeze, aimlessly wandering from place to place. She does not conform. More people should think this way because the world needs these companies to survive and it would be economic suicide to shut just oil and gas down, look at what is happening right now and it is only a down turn. But if new technology is created and new methods are put into place then what is now seen as the worst form of energy environmentally it can be seen as something that is more sustainable with less of an environmental impact. This is what my program focuses on, how to reduce waste and how to treat the waste that is created, so when it is either released back into the environment or there is a spill or leak that it will not be as harmful. The environmental technology program will help get more women into the science field which will then advance them in the working world. This program will draw women in because it can be seen less threatening then say a petroleum technology program where it is mostly men. • 16. Themes Of Home Alone And Ransom Of Red Chief The theme of a story is the moral message or lesson of a story. There are many themes in Home Alone and Ransom of Red Chief but the one that stood out to me the most was that the looks of people can be extremely different from their actions. In the story Ransom of Red Chief the story states "The kid was a freckle–faced boy of ten with freckles that stood out. His hair was the color of the cover of the magazine you buy at the newsstand when you want to catch a train. Hey little boy! Says Bill Would you like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride? The boy hits Bill square in the eye with a piece of brick". This illustrates that most people who read this story think he is a good kid by his looks until you read where he hits Bill in the head with a brick. Bill thought he was a good kid but Bill learned the hard way. In a scene from Home Alone the bad guys are looking through the house window and think he's a helpless little boy, but when they try to get into the house they see he's not at all what he looks like. Kevin made the steps icey so they would slip, put a blow torch above the door so it would burn their hair and made an iron fall on Marv's face. This reveals that people first judge others based on their looks but they don't truly know what they are like. Kevin and Johnny look like innocent people but they have another side. The characters in Ransom of Red Chief and Home Alone are very similar. Kevin and Johnny are both very mischievous and very rowdy. In the story Ransom of Red Chief it states "He was throwing rocks at a kitten on a fence." This reveals the actions Johnny does and how he can be mischievous. Johnny was throwing rocks at a kitten for no reason. In one scene from the movie Kevin was using cardboard people or dummy's and hooked them up with string so the fake people could move when the bad guys drove past the house. This shows Kevin was thinking outside the box but was also being mischievous at the Same time. While reading this book I was lead to believe that "the boy" is truly the only "good guy" left, because "the man" and every other character that I encountered in this book share some of the same qualities as "the bad guys". The boy constantly begs his father to be sympathetic and charitable to the drifters that they encounter on the road, but the father usually refuses or either puts up an argument before finally giving into the boy, and handing over one or two cans of food to the stranger. "Maybe we could give him something to eat." "He looked off down the road." Damn, he whispered." "He looked down at the old man." Perhaps he'd turn into a god and they to trees." "All right, he said." "He untied the tarp and folded it back and rummaged through the canned goods and came up with a tin of fruit cocktail and took the can opener from his pocket and opened the tin and folded back the lid and walked over and squatted and handed it to the boy." "What about a spoon?" "He's not getting a spoon."(McCarthy 163). I believe the only reason "the man" gave in so easily in this situation was because they had been very fortunate in their findings, I sense that "the man" feared that if he was not at least a tad bit generous, that bad karma might just shadow him. After the stranger on the road had finished eating the can of fruit "...he sat holding the empty tin and looking down into it as if more might appear." "What do you want to give him?" (Dictionary.com), and all people have power, whether they notice it or not. Though some employ their power for respectable reasons, often times power is not used in honorable ways. The matter of abuse of authority is prevalent in the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck illustrates that those who have power abuse it exceedingly often, as shown by Curley attacking countless others, including Lennie, a mentally disabled man, Curley's wife mistreating the men of the ranch, and Curley's wife making demeaning comments about Crooks, the African American stable buck. Throughout his piece he utilizes a satirical tone to showcase this idea. The audience that Dave Barry is attempting to convey his message to is the general public. I believe this to be an appropriate assessment as the level of language employed by Dave Barry, throughout his piece, lacks complexity. His use of satire also helps to identify the audience. This is because the use of humour can be seen as a way to capture the attention of a reader quickly in hopes that the reader continues, and ultimately finishes the article. In the discourse of arhcitecture specifically, it seems Debords predictions have bled into the culture of modern design, as expressed by Anthony Vidler: "Recent proposals and debates over the architectutural devlopment of ground zero have highlighted the way in which, over the last two decades, the public role of architecture has been gradually reduced to the symbolic and the emblematic. Its forms of expresion are no longer closely tied back to urban issues and physical planning questions." (Toward a theory of the architectural program, antohny vidler, page 1) These discussions and critiques, indeed, seem to bear out Guy Debords 1964 anticipation of an all–pervading spectacle culture where in essense, we have moved into a system of architecture overinvested in symbolic form, "where flash and bravura win out over contemplation". Little have we thought of seeing cars taking a role of gender, in this case an SUV. SUVs have taken the role of a male with a feminine touch. Dave Barry's Guys vs. Men is a funny, interesting and in fact true effort at explaining who guys really are, and why they are that way. Reptile Dreams focuses more on characteristics of an SUV that reflect the characteristics of men. Again, questioning the rules of moral behavior. "For Rapaille, the archetype of a sport utility vehicle reflects the reptilian desire for survival. People buy SUVs, he tells auto executives, because they are trying to look as menacing as possible to allay their fears of crime and other violence. The Jeep has always had this image around the world because of it its heavy use in war movies and frequent appearances in newsreels from the 1940's and 1950's, and newer SUVs share the image." Media usage however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to people as well as portraying a false image of what one should look like. Media is a blank canvas for young minds to express themselves, and it is advancing so fast that it is being integrated in our everyday lives. Which ever way you look at it, media can be interpreted in many different ways, as the consumers are all different and have all had many different experiences. I personally try not to let the media surrounding my life affect how I think, it is just hard, because even though I am aware of it I still tend to let it get to me because it is in almost every aspect of my life. • 35. Summary Of Guy Debord's 'Society Of The Spectacle' Throughout history there have been many well–known philosophers. Through this paper I will be discussing the perspectives of philosophers Guy Debord, Michel Foucault, and John Rawls. In Guy Debord's, "The Society of the Spectacle" he makes critics of technological capitalism. In Michel Foucault's, "Power/Knowledge" he goes over different types of power and how they are interpreted. Debord was a situationist international, which meant creating situations or creating situations. Referring to the several theses in Debord's novel I can say that "the society of the spectacle" "...is not a collection of images; rather, it is a social relationship between people that is mediated by images" (Derbord, 12). This shows that it is not only a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consumable survival must increase, in fact, because it continues to enshrine deprivation. The reason there is nothing beyond augmented survival, and no end to its growth, is that survival itself belongs to the realm of dispossession: it may gild poverty, but it cannot transcend it (Debord, 30)." This explains that the people are consumers of illusions; it blindsides the people from reality and only allows them to only be aware of what society or social media wants them to know. In Michel Foucault's, "Power/ Knowledge", there are two chapters titled "Truth and Power" and "The Eye of the Power". Foucault's conception of power is that power is everywhere. Everyone has power and has the ability to make use of their power, but often times citizens don't make use of their power. It seems that they are in fear of those who enforce their power already, which prevents them to make use of their power. An everyday individual sees power to be in the hands of who the people have "chosen". We should not always think about power as the private property of government or state, but rather as an equal common ground for all of those who share the land. It is not the state that doesn't matter, but the power is bigger than the state; although the state has power, it does not have all power. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The guy could be as unsure of your feelings as you are of his, or he could be shy! I say WHY NOT ask a man out! Many women play the martyr in relationships with men who don't treat them well because many women feel so devoted to their partners that they are afraid of losing them. Unluckily, relationships are perilously perched in the grey and that's what makes them hard and complicated. We are humans after all. We hurt and shape each other all the time. Throughout the story he meets people that impact his life like Mr. Spencer and Robert Ackley. Mr. Spencer a seventy –year–old man, who is Holden's history teacher. Spencer dosen't know what's wrong with Holden but he wants to help by lecturing Him. Mr. Spencer is a very nice teacher the character in the story seems to have a connection with Holden.
