Violent crimes present in British Columbia seemed to be decreasing between 2012 and 2014 with a
96.04 index in 2012 leading to a 11.58% drop in 2013 however by 2015 there was an increase of
7.43% still only putting the index at 82.99 from 77.25 the previous year (Statistics Canada, 2016).
Throughout Canada there has also been a decrease between the years 2012 and 2014 for violent
crimes with an 85.72 index in 2012 then going down to 70.50 by 2014 (Statistics Canada, 2016). The
biggest drop in those years was again in 2013 with a 9.76% drop though by 2015 it started to increase
to a 74.48 index making it a 5.65% change (Statistics Canada, 2016).

Although the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey (UCR) is based on police reported incidents it is also
useful too look at the General Social Survey (GSS) who personally contact people to see if they have
been victimized in the past and with this they could have come across and recorded incidents that were
not reported to the police (Statistics Canada, 2014). According to (GSS) physical assault is considered
to be the most frequent violent crime in Canada with around 6.4 million criminal incidents during
2014, 22% of that was physical assault (Statistics Canada, 2014). Physical Assault is shown to have
fallen by 35% in 2014 being the biggest drop since between 1999 and 2004 with having the highest
incidents during 1999 and 2009 at 80 incidents per 1,000 people which dropped to about 45

The Role Of Social Media On Healthcare
INTRODUCTION The healthcare industry is slowly embracing and recognizing the importance and
power of social media. Millions of people of all ages go online each day, to seek information, do
online research, share photos, write blogs, watch videos, play online games, and so much more. Many
healthcare businesses have already, or are starting, to create an online presence to capture the millions
of people that go online every day. Social media can help healthcare professionals and organizations to
promote and advertise their products and services locally and globally. Different healthcare social
media sites make it easier for consumers to locate the products and/or services they want to find.
Successful healthcare social media sites are designed to be engaging, interactive and to create positive
relationships with existing consumers. Then, potential new clients can make better purchasing
decisions based on the first hand experience from others who have personal knowledge of the product
or service. ROLE OF HEALTHCARE SOCIAL MEDIA The role of social media in healthcare
follows the same principles as most other industries in terms of mass communication, global reach,
engagement, and instantaneous feedback from and to a relevant group of people. In short, the
healthcare social media platform is an effective, low cost method to share information, create
communities, and maintain relationships with key groups. The Executive Director of Deloitte

White Wolf Mountain Research Paper
White Wolf Mountain is a place of mystery. The Mountain is a majestic monolith, rising above all
others and overlooking the valley it created. It harbors a Power older than any living thing on Earth.
The Power has grown over centuries, millennia, eons never having been created, but having always
existed. Nobody knows how it came to be, but they do know this: the Power is changing, evolving all
the time. It sees all but it does not know all. The Power likes to learn. It likes to test its subjects and
watch the outcome. The Power is a sentient being. Though it has no physical form and is confined to
the Mountain, its influence extends far beyond its home of rock.
The Power started taking an interest in the animals that evolved around it when the Earth was young.
Only when the mammals started to come, and the Mountain grew in size with the shifting plates below
did the Power have enough energy to begin to act on its whims. The first animal to come under the
Power s influence was the wolf. A primitive creature, yet complex nonetheless. The wolf hunted and
scavenged, were social creatures, communicating through howls and yips and body language and the
Power was fascinated by this. The Power wanted to understand this, and when it had amassed enough
energy, it created its own wolf. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she knew something was amiss. She did not age. She was as immortal as the Power that had created

Group Decision Support Systems
Introduction to GDSS Group decision support systems (GDSS) are interactive, computer based
systems that facilitate solution of semi structured and unstructured problems by a designated set of
decision makers working together as a group. A GDSS can assist groups, especially groups of
managers, in analyzing problem situations and in performing group decision making tasks. GDSS
include structured decision tools for tasks like brainstorming, commenting on ideas, and rating and
ranking of alternatives GDSS is also known as Group Support Systems (GSS) or Computer Support

Tristan, Islare And The Romance Of Tristan And Isolde
Tristan and Isolde Love so alike, that none do slacken, none can die (The Good Morrow) the basis of
Tristan and Isolde is known to be a romantic tragedy but as the quote states their love continues on
despite their death. Tristan and Isolde regardless of the version of the story always are explained to be
in love, a love that consumes them so much they disregard every consequence that can come from
there so called love. Tristan and Isolde has become an epic and famous love story told in many
versions the origins of this story dates back many years ago but the film discussed was filmed in two
thousand and six in which we will compare it to the text of The Romance of Tristan and Iseult. There
many differences within the film and the story, that can be due to moderation, the audience they are
appealing to, and or just changes needed to corporate to fit the film. Due to the origins of this story
dating ages back there is no doubt that the film would differ from the story. A major difference
between the print version of the story and the film is that Tristan and Isolde fall in love through a
potion in the print version. In the film Tristan is seen to be rescued by Isolde and kept as her secret
from her father in which Tristan and Isolde spend time together and that is how their relationship
begins which is also the basis of the film about their love. The potion s power in the print version
allows they who drink of it together love each other with their every single sense and

Essay on Compare and Contrast Caravaggio and Gentileschi
Michelangelo da Caravaggio s David with the Head of Goliath and
Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith and Maidservant with the Head of
Holofernes
The period of Baroque art was from 1600 to 1750, and relates to the style of architecture and art that
was dominant at that time. Rome was the center of this new style that reflected the Counter
Reformation; the
Church was regrouping during this period, and was trying to build up its patronage by bringing people
back to worship after the Reformation. In much of the art during this time, the papacy commissioned
artists to lavishly restore Rome in the hope that Rome would become the most beautiful city that
would attract Christians. Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, William Shakespeare ... Show more

Her father was a painter named Orazio Gentileschi, who taught her how to draw and paint. Influenced
by Caravaggio s work, Gentileschi also used chiaroscuro in her work and created beautifully dramatic
pieces. Like
Caravaggio, she also was able to depict a moment of elevated drama in her work and was totally
capable of emphasizing it. In the time that she lived, women generally were not painters; very few
women even attempted it, but Gentileschi was the first woman to actually become a member of the
prestigious Accademia di Arte Disegno in Florence, Italy and to paint important historical and
religious paintings that were actually
praised and viewed as an integral part of the artistic movement.
Both Gentileschi and Caravaggio painted unconventional religious subjects; two paintings of similar
themes are Caravaggio s David with the
Head of Goliath, (c.1610), and Gentileschi s Judith and Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes (c.
1625). Both paintings evoke drama and use the technique of chiaroscuro to add effective intensity to
the story of their paintings, which entail the heroic and rather gruesome removal of someone s head.
The subject of Gentileschi s painting comes from the
Book of Judith and relates the story of Holofernes who attacked the
Jewish people of Bethulia; Judith, who was a beautiful Hebrew widow that may have been raped by
Holoferenes, entered Holofernes s camp and beheaded him while he was

Intonation During Casual Speech Productions
Intonation during casual speech productions can be observed at the discourse level using auditory
analysis (Chun, 2002). In practice, speakers can utilise falling or rising intonations to represent various
speech realisations such as statements, commands and/or explanations (Cruttendon, 1981). Speakers
intonation choice may be situation specific and used as an entity of expression to generate meaning
within particular groups of words (Chun, 2002). Interpretations of speakers speech style using
statistical analyses have been the main focus in previous literatures, providing fruitful evidence on
both pitch and linguistic variation and the relations to a more positive or negative connotation within
languages. Henton (1989) demonstrated that the pitch level in linguistic variation could carry
underlying connotations (positive or negative) such that in male speech, if expressed with low pitch,
rumbling, under expressive and monotonous, can be expressive of a more negative connotation within
the speech context. Subsequent studies addressed speakers abilities to accommodate sociophonetic
speech to produce variants that are more similarly associated with the social characteristics of the
audience (Bell, 1984), or a referee (Hay, Jannedy Mendoza Denton, 1999). Hay et al., (1999)
attempted to demonstrate the prevalence of an interplay between speech style and the ethnic
background of a referee by examining Oprah Winfrey s speech tendencies to monophthongise the
diphthong /æ/.

The New Common Core State Standards
Voices across the country are raising concerns about the new Common Core State Standards. But if
you listen carefully to the conversations, the main concern is not about the standards, themselves, but
about the consequences of high stakes tests attached to the standards. And those concerns are well
founded. Trying to implement goals for deeper learning through an outdated testing model tied to a
long list of punishments for children, educators, and schools is like pouring new wine into old bottles.
It will certainly turn sour. The Common Core, for those of you unaware, is a set of standards , skills
and requirements children need to understand by the end of the school year. Here s the thing, The

behind closed doors by academics and assessment experts, many with ties to testing companies , Karp
also stated that In all, there were 135 people on the review panels for the Common Core. Not a single
one of them was a K 3 classroom teacher or early childhood professional (Karp 2014). The initiative s
purpose is to implement consistent, nationwide education standards in English and math, with the goal
of helping ensure that high school graduates across the country are ready for college or for
employment. Although Common Core isn t a federal law, the federal government supports it by
providing grants that are only available to those states that have adopted its guidelines and standards.
The joint issue for the common core would the new wave of high stakes Common Core tests. What

Harriet Beecher Stowe s Uncle Tom s Cabin
In varying societies, there s a tendency to preassign a work or cap on achievement to different kinds of
people. The following selections all feature societies in which certain people are stunted in their
pursuits for no more reason than their biological identities. Middlemarch by George Eliot (1994) is a
novel based off 18th century England provincial life. Dorothea is Eliot s main character a woman who
spends most of the novel frustrated with a glass ceiling of education that s been set lower for women
than men. There s also mention of people from the working class with scarce other options for earning

The Great Depression was a horrible time for the U.S,especially Texas. The Great depression was a

Fahrenheit 451 Language Analysis
In Fahrenheit 451 a character by the name of Montag has a job to burn books. Later in the story it gets
to him, why he s burning books in the first place. This eventually sparks his curiosity for reading
books and later his downfall in the end of the novel. Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 the overall plot
was to censure every book so that they could never cause anymore commotion and domestic actions
ever again. In Bradbury s novel, he uses tone in several ways to illustrate censorship is inappropriate
through his use of charged words, his use of historical symbols, and his ability to reflect the ideas of
historical positive role models. Bradbury s uses charged words to state his view of negative censorship
through adjectives. For example, (excerpt 1). It was a special pleasure to burn to see things eaten, to
see things blackened and changed. He uses these words here to show how Montag enjoys to burn
books and how he feels like he s helping the cause. Montag s stance changes in the second excerpt
when he starts to feel alone for example, We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered
once in a while. (excerpt 2). Montag wants his wife and him to be bothered because they re not
bothered enough. Bradbury shows tone through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Halsey is a new up and coming artist that many still don t know about. Her song Colors is her most

Each lyric line represents a new meaning to the song. The song is confusing to someone just listening

the symbolism that is located throughout the song. The music video to Colors is very unique and

Contemporary American Poetry and Its Public Worlds Essay
But who has the will to concern himself with such dangerous maybes? For that, one really has to to
wait for the advent of a new species of philosophers, such as somehow another and converse taste and
propensity from those we have known so far philosophers of the dangerous maybe in every sense.
(Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, sec 2.)
This will not be one more lament for the sad state of contemporary American poetry. Yet to define
some of the basic strengths of new work I have to begin with what seems like a lament. For perhaps
the most important invigorating element for contemporaries is a widespread dissatisfaction with what

For poetry to achieve cultural currency, in both senses of that term, it may have to find ways of
reconciling the energies of romantic lyricism to overtly rhetorical ambitions and strategies.
It will take me a long time to get to those ambitions because I first have to clarify plausible ways of
using the concept of poetry s relations to a public world, and then I have to use that discussion in order
to dramatize the problems of mediated culture that demand those new strategies. Criticism now seems
divided between two basic understandings of how poets can evade romantic lyricism and directly
address public worlds. The first is fundamentally agenda based. Here poetry s relation to the public
world consists in its efforts to offer timely statement or testimony responding to pressing social issues,
usually as an effort to represent the interests of a specific community. The second option forgoes this
emphasis on specific thematic concerns in order to stress instead the overall stances that poets
develop. From this perspective it matters less what you say than how you manage to cultivate an ethos
that is perceived as representing the

In 1790 a new nation was on the rise. With the help of the French, the people of the
thirteen colonies of America had united together to defeat the greatest empire of the world.
This was the shining moment of America. Freedom was theirs, and this is what they have
been wanting since the pilgrims arrived almost two centuries before. They were now going
to take on an even greater task then fighting the British: establishing a system of government
that would be fair and that would be accepted throughout all of America. One thing the

The 13 states were all different in their own respects, and each

ideas would work (Parker 3).
After the American Revolution, the government was deep in debt. The Secretary of the Treasury,
Alexander Hamilton, proposed a bill that would stop the national debt from growing or even reduce it.
This bill, which was approved by both houses in the winter session of Congress in 1791, put an excise
tax on all spiritus fermenti, or whiskey (Pike 1). The tax was an ad valorem tax that added twenty five
percent to the value of whiskey. Needless to say, this was not well accepted and the peoples opposition
to it would become one of the first tests of power the new government would have to face.
The thing about this tax is that the amount that had to be paid varied with how much was being
produced. Large producers would only have to pay an annual tax of about six cents per gallon because
they produced so much. This price could also be reduced if they created the whiskey in even larger
quantities. On the other hand, there were also the small producers, that were mostly farmers, who
made whiskey because grain was very hard to transport across the mountains, and making the grain
into whiskey was much easier to carry across the mountains and much more profitable. These smaller
producers had to pay around nine cents per gallon because they produced

The Epidemiology, Treatment and Rehabilitation of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture
Introduction The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is the most commonly injured ligament in the
body (Spindler, 2008). Griffin (2005) estimated that around 80 000 to more than 250 000 ACL injuries
occur each year. An anterior cruciate ligament rupture (ACLR) can be a devastating injury to an
athlete, as they encounter the possibility of reconstructive surgery alongside extensive months of
rehabilitation. Also many athletes are unable to return to their former level of athletic performance
within the first postoperative year, with many athletes unable to return to play at all (Panariello, 2015).
Epidemiology An ACLR can be caused by many mechanisms with 70% being reported with a
noncontact nature and 30% reported with the involvement of contact from an outside force such as an
opposing player. Of the non contact mechanisms, common movements involved in an ACLR include
cutting movements, landing from a jump with inadequate hip and knee flexion close to full extension
(Silvers Mandelbaum, 2011). Female athletes are at a greater risk of ACL injuries when compared to

Essay about A Tale of Two Cities
During my active duty military service I had the opportunity to live in and visit many different cities.
Of all the cities I lived in, I spent most of my military time in Charleston, S.C. and Jacksonville, FL.
Charleston and Jacksonville were similar in size, geography and population types, but differed greatly
in history, weather, and the overall attitudes of its residents. If I had to choose between the two cities
as the place to call my home, it would be without a doubt, Charleston, S.C. Charleston and
Jacksonville were both considered large port cities, each with a portion of their populations consisting
of military families. Although Jacksonville was larger in area than Charleston, folks who lived in the
Charleston area considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few of the many historical sites of Charleston were Rainbow Row, The Market, Fort Sumter and
The Battery lined with colonial houses and civil war cannons. Jacksonville had its historical sites,
although there were just a few and it took some research and effort to find them. Jacksonville was
known more as a modern city that began to grow and blossom after the Civil War. It was considered a
victim of war due to the dilapidation it suffered during the Civil War. The climates of Charleston and
Jacksonville were generally considered to be similar, hot and very muggy. My experience was that
there was still a large difference and I had come to feel as though each city s climate resembled the
attitudes of its residents, or maybe it was just the opposite. Residents of Charleston were laid back and
unrushed while the residents of Jacksonville were impatient and hurried. I remember the deep blue
skies over Charleston harbor were often filled with white puffs of clouds that resembled perfectly
shaped cotton balls. I could always count on the light and pleasant ocean breeze that made it difficult
to focus on my work, and if rain came, it drifted in as slowly and silently as the sailboats returning to
the marina after a long day out on the harbor. In Jacksonville, I remember the ocean breeze was more
of a confused gust that chopped at your skin and

Assimilation And Identity Case Study
1. How does each document address the issue of assimilation and identity? i. Nathan Glazer and
Daniel Patrick Moynihan, on the Nonexistent American , using the example of ethnic labels may
disappear in our society but have not due to group identity. After 2 generations of being in America, it
is true that their language and customs had changed due to the influence of American culture, but the
group identity had not disappeared to reflect just being American. The groups are different, and the
impact of assimilating trends affected the groups in different ways depending on their country of
origin due to cultural differences. Color is still a defining way to look at any one group s identity in
America. ii. Henry Cabot Lodge, The Restriction

Examples Of Eulogy To My Hero
As many of you may know, Prince died yesterday at Paisley Park. Also, many of you know that I was
probably one of his biggest fans since I was eleven years old. To all the friends and family that
messaged me to check if I was okay, I thank you. You guys mean the world to me. I am writing this
post as a tribute to my hero and as an informative to all the people who have been judging me for my
grief over someone I have never met. Like I said earlier, I have loved Prince and his music since I was
eleven years old. At this time, it was only a few years after my grandmother died and was only a few
months before I lost my grandfather. These two beings were so important to me and when I was being
told that Granny only has a ten percent chance of

Accounting And Disclosure Requirements Of Leases
We know businesses can acquire assets differently, they can buy it, or if they do not have enough fund
to purchase the asset, they can lease it. Lease arrangements give the lessee access to the assets for long
enough time and in return they need to make periodic payments to the lessor. The main advantage of
leasing is to acquire the necessary equipment or assets, use that assets to generate revenue but without
tying up a big amount of cash upfront. International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) introduced
new guidelines for accounting and disclosure requirements of leases. IFRS 16 Leases will replace IAS
17 Leases, and related Interpretations, and will be effective from 1 January 2019.
We can distinguish leases either financial or operational. In existing lease accounting practices, we
treat financial leases similar to purchase with cash or on account. On the other hand operational leases
do not recognised as an asset in the books of the business but we do deduct lease payments as an
expense and it showed up in the income statement. Over the time, the use of operating income
increased so much that the academician, regulators and practitioners raised concerns to potential
opportunistic use of it by businesses (Altamuro, Johnston, Pandit and Zhang, 2014). In general
companies who use operating lease ends up with improved return on assets and debt to equity ratio
and therefore better solidity comparing to the companies who do not use operating leases, instead they

Chicago Fire Essay
It all started on 137 De Koven Street, in Catherine and Patrick O Leary s Barn. Daniel Sullivan ,who
was a friend and the first one to discover the fire, did not hesitate to call out for help. When the fire
was barely 15 minutes old, the O Leary s barn and neighboring houses were already engulfed in fire as
families stood outside, watching, and waiting for any kind of help to arrive. The absence of rain for
three weeks [has] left everything in so flammable a condition that a spark might set a fire which would
seep from end to end of the city. Reported the Chicago Tribune in the Sunday Edition. During that
time, Chicago had recently renovated it s fire alarm making it it s best out of the nation. However, in
the past, the fire department ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power brokers of the city quickly began reconstruction and started great economic development and
population growth as architects laid foundation featuring the world s first skyscrapers. This
opportunity gave many architects like Dankmar Alder a chance after Chicago. The devastating events
in Chicago during the fire and the year s of rebuilding were the focus of the intense national interest.
Reporters, photographers, and illustrators were sent to the ruins to report and write to the national and
international readership. In 1956, the city installed a modest monument at the site where the fire
started, Dekoven and South Jefferson streets, dedicated to it s new fire academy and designated
Chicago s landmark on 15 September 1971. The landmark is a bronze sculpture of flames entitled
Pillar of Fire and sculpted by Egon Weiner. At the base of the pillar the plaque reads Here began the
Chicago Fire of 1871...Site of the origin of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 ...The great Chicago fire
began October 8, 1871, in the O Leary barn on DeKoven Street. Fanned by a strong wind, in a city
largely built of wood structures, the blaze raged for nearly 30 hours. Flames spread so far as Fullerton
Avenue, before finally dying out in the early morning rain, October 10. Almost everything in the path

The Worst Damage Of Sonoma County
Earthquakes are something that happen every day all around the world. Most earthquakes are very
small and go unfelt, however every once and while there are massive earthquakes that cause
tremendous damage to life and property. Sonoma County has a lot of fault lines running through it.
These faults line are; the San Andreas Fault, the Rodgers Creek Fault, the Maacama Fault and the
Healdsburg Fault. Since 1855, there have been more than 140 earthquakes that have actually been felt
where we live in Santa Rosa Area Of the earthquakes that have cause damage, the worst damage was
caused by; 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, 1969 Rodgers Creek/ Healdsburg Fault Earthquake, 1989
Loma Prieta Earthquake, 1994 Northridge Earthquake. We should use the data of past earthquakes in
our area to help come up with a plan in case there is another major earthquake in Sonoma County.
Data suggests that there is a 63% probability of at least one magnitude 6.7 or greater earthquake
striking somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area before the year 2032. The key to surviving and
earthquake is to be prepared. Earthquakes are caused when two blocks of earth suddenly slip past one
another. The surface where the two blocks slip is called the fault. The earthquake starts below the
earth s surface at the hypocenter, and the location above the hypocenter is called the epicenter.
Earthquakes can have foreshocks which is a smaller earthquake that happens before the larger quake.
Earthquake can also

Plato s Euthyphro
Our thought process and our framework of how we choose to go about our day are shaped by our
beliefs and morals. What is the difference between the two? How do we choose which one is right?
Plato s Euthyphro dilemma challenges that idea, he asked a timeless question of It s morally good and
God recognizes it as morally good so it s morally good or is it morally good because God wills it to be
morally good?
We can argue and take the first side that humans have a moral compass and possess the ability to
differentiate what is right or wrong without religion governing them. It can be interpreted that we can
be morally good, so therefore being morally good can be independent of God. God recognizes the
deed as morally good and then approves

Aquatic Experience In Pediatric Emergency Room
For children and adolescents, the experience in pediatric emergency waiting rooms can be
problematic. According to different age groups, there are a variety of psychosocial concerns and
developmental considerations that health professionals should be aware of in the pediatric unit. The
environment of the emergency room is busy and chaotic, which can increase the level of anxiety and
stress for the whole family. For infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children, parent
separation is a common factor that makes them anxious (Brunnquell Kohen, 1991). In the chaotic
environment, children express their anxiety by crying, kicking or even regressive behaviors such as
stop walking. Thus, there should be more family couches for patients to

Adam Pelech In The NHL Draft
The NHL draft, once beyond the second round, can be likened to shooting fish in a barrel, as the
saying goes. There is no clear cut way of determining what the end result of a players potential really
will be once he has gone through the rigors of your organization s development plan. And that s not to
say the development plan is all that shapes the player. There are many other intangibles and personal
factors that come into play as well, ultimately separating the Shea Weber s from the Michael Del Zotto
s (sorry Micheal, just for comparison sake).
In the third round of the 2012 entry draft, the New York Islanders chose a Canadian defenseman by
the name of Adam Pelech with the 65th overall selection. Never projected to be a prototypical

The trade market has started to heat up and we saw last night that the unexpected can happen at the
most unexpected times a midnight deal sending Ducks Carl Hagelin to Pittsburgh for David Perron. A
blockbuster involving Ryan Johanssen and Seth Jones was just completed. There are forwards said to
be available should Snow choose to walk down that path. Jonathan Drouin, Jordan Eberle, Ryan
Nugent Hopkins and Tyler Ennis are just some of the names being thrown around as we head into the
all star break and February 29 trade deadline.
What Snow ultimately does could depend on the continued development of Pelech, who doesn t seem
fazed by the challenge. I m just grateful for the opportunity to be here and want to do the best I can
with the minutes I ve been given. It s been very humbling but I know I have the skill to be here and

The Battle Of Creationism And Evolutionary Theory
The battle of creationism and evolutionary theory is not a new one. That being said, in order to
understand whether creationism has a place in secondary education, one must first understand the
complexity of the matter. Evolution in itself is a theory proposed by Charles Darwin in 1859. Grossly
simplified, the theory states that life evolved from non life; the concept of descent with modification.
This theory arouses conflict because many Christians believe that it negates the literal interpretation of
the biblical creation story. It is from this story that the theory of creationism began. While some may
argue that creationism deserves to be taught alongside evolutionary theory within the science
curriculum of secondary schools of a municipality or state, these individuals are mistaken.
Creationism is not a science, therefore by teaching it one violates the first amendment and also further
develops the religious inequality that its supporters argue teaching it creates. There is no place for
creationism in the science curriculum within secondary public education. To begin, the idea that
creationism is a science is a troublesome one in itself. According to Creationism.org, the leading
authority on Creation Science, creationism is, the theory that man, the earth, and the rest of the
universe were originally created rather than randomly exploding from nothingness into chance
existence . Science as a practice is not this way. By definition, science is the knowledge about or

Essay On The Paradox Of Slavery
Which came first, the chicken or the egg, slavery or racism? The question of whether racism is the
root of slavery, or if slavery caused racism is an ongoing debate that throughout history historians has
been batting to answer, and have yet to come to an agreement. Some people think that people were
made slaves because of prejudice toward the color of their skin, therefore, racism caused slavery;
others believe that people saw slaves as inferior to them, and therefore slavery caused racism. Jordan s
The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery , Morgan s The Paradox of Slavery and Freedom and
Bacon s Rebellion helps us see where the separation between white and black slaves began in
America. Slavery and racism are interconnecting, but by looking at the sources and articles, we can
see that slavery caused racism. The article of Jordan s The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery
helps to look at not only two sides of the discussion, but also a third side, that both racial prejudice
and slavery work hand in hand. The Article The Paradox of Slavery also helps us see how slavery and
racism connect.
The first side in The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery shows that slavery causes racism. When
people first started migrating to America, most Africans were equal to the English settlers. It is equally
clear that a substantial number of Virginia s Negroes were free or became free. And all of them,
whether servant, slave, or free enjoyed most of the same rights and

Throughout Canada there has also been a decrease between the years 2012 and 2014 for violent crimes with an 85.72 index in 2012 then going down to 70.50 by 2014 (Statistics Canada, 2016). The biggest drop in those years was again in 2013 with a 9.76% drop though by 2015 it started to increase to a 74.48 index making it a 5.65% change (Statistics Canada, 2016). 4 Although the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey (UCR) is based on police reported incidents it is also useful too look at the General Social Survey (GSS) who personally contact people to see if they have been victimized in the past and with this they could have come across and recorded incidents that were not reported to the police (Statistics Canada, 2014). According to (GSS) physical assault is considered to be the most frequent violent crime in Canada with around 6.4 million criminal incidents during 2014, 22% of that was physical assault (Statistics Canada, 2014). Physical Assault is shown to have fallen by 35% in 2014 being the biggest drop since between 1999 and 2004 with having the highest incidents during 1999 and 2009 at 80 incidents per 1,000 people which dropped to about 45 ... • 6. White Wolf Mountain Research Paper White Wolf Mountain is a place of mystery. The Mountain is a majestic monolith, rising above all others and overlooking the valley it created. It harbors a Power older than any living thing on Earth. The Power has grown over centuries, millennia, eons never having been created, but having always existed. Nobody knows how it came to be, but they do know this: the Power is changing, evolving all the time. It sees all but it does not know all. The Power likes to learn. It likes to test its subjects and watch the outcome. The Power is a sentient being. Though it has no physical form and is confined to the Mountain, its influence extends far beyond its home of rock. The Power started taking an interest in the animals that evolved around it when the Earth was young. Only when the mammals started to come, and the Mountain grew in size with the shifting plates below did the Power have enough energy to begin to act on its whims. The first animal to come under the Power s influence was the wolf. A primitive creature, yet complex nonetheless. The wolf hunted and scavenged, were social creatures, communicating through howls and yips and body language and the Power was fascinated by this. Rome was the center of this new style that reflected the Counter Reformation; the Church was regrouping during this period, and was trying to build up its patronage by bringing people back to worship after the Reformation. Influenced by Caravaggio s work, Gentileschi also used chiaroscuro in her work and created beautifully dramatic pieces. Like Caravaggio, she also was able to depict a moment of elevated drama in her work and was totally capable of emphasizing it. In the time that she lived, women generally were not painters; very few women even attempted it, but Gentileschi was the first woman to actually become a member of the prestigious Accademia di Arte Disegno in Florence, Italy and to paint important historical and religious paintings that were actually praised and viewed as an integral part of the artistic movement. Both Gentileschi and Caravaggio painted unconventional religious subjects; two paintings of similar themes are Caravaggio s David with the Head of Goliath, (c.1610), and Gentileschi s Judith and Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes (c. 1625). Both paintings evoke drama and use the technique of chiaroscuro to add effective intensity to the story of their paintings, which entail the heroic and rather gruesome removal of someone s head. The subject of Gentileschi s painting comes from the Book of Judith and relates the story of Holofernes who attacked the Jewish people of Bethulia; Judith, who was a beautiful Hebrew widow that may have been raped by Holoferenes, entered Holofernes s camp and beheaded him while he was ... • 10. Intonation During Casual Speech Productions Intonation during casual speech productions can be observed at the discourse level using auditory analysis (Chun, 2002). In practice, speakers can utilise falling or rising intonations to represent various speech realisations such as statements, commands and/or explanations (Cruttendon, 1981). Speakers intonation choice may be situation specific and used as an entity of expression to generate meaning within particular groups of words (Chun, 2002). Interpretations of speakers speech style using statistical analyses have been the main focus in previous literatures, providing fruitful evidence on both pitch and linguistic variation and the relations to a more positive or negative connotation within languages. Henton (1989) demonstrated that the pitch level in linguistic variation could carry underlying connotations (positive or negative) such that in male speech, if expressed with low pitch, rumbling, under expressive and monotonous, can be expressive of a more negative connotation within the speech context. Subsequent studies addressed speakers abilities to accommodate sociophonetic speech to produce variants that are more similarly associated with the social characteristics of the audience (Bell, 1984), or a referee (Hay, Jannedy Mendoza Denton, 1999). Hay et al., (1999) attempted to demonstrate the prevalence of an interplay between speech style and the ethnic background of a referee by examining Oprah Winfrey s speech tendencies to monophthongise the diphthong /æ/. ... For poetry to achieve cultural currency, in both senses of that term, it may have to find ways of reconciling the energies of romantic lyricism to overtly rhetorical ambitions and strategies. It will take me a long time to get to those ambitions because I first have to clarify plausible ways of using the concept of poetry s relations to a public world, and then I have to use that discussion in order to dramatize the problems of mediated culture that demand those new strategies. Criticism now seems divided between two basic understandings of how poets can evade romantic lyricism and directly address public worlds. The first is fundamentally agenda based. Here poetry s relation to the public world consists in its efforts to offer timely statement or testimony responding to pressing social issues, usually as an effort to represent the interests of a specific community. The second option forgoes this emphasis on specific thematic concerns in order to stress instead the overall stances that poets develop. The Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, proposed a bill that would stop the national debt from growing or even reduce it. This bill, which was approved by both houses in the winter session of Congress in 1791, put an excise tax on all spiritus fermenti, or whiskey (Pike 1). The tax was an ad valorem tax that added twenty five percent to the value of whiskey. Needless to say, this was not well accepted and the peoples opposition to it would become one of the first tests of power the new government would have to face. The thing about this tax is that the amount that had to be paid varied with how much was being produced. On the other hand, there were also the small producers, that were mostly farmers, who made whiskey because grain was very hard to transport across the mountains, and making the grain into whiskey was much easier to carry across the mountains and much more profitable. The Epidemiology, Treatment and Rehabilitation of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture Introduction The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is the most commonly injured ligament in the body (Spindler, 2008). Griffin (2005) estimated that around 80 000 to more than 250 000 ACL injuries occur each year. An anterior cruciate ligament rupture (ACLR) can be a devastating injury to an athlete, as they encounter the possibility of reconstructive surgery alongside extensive months of rehabilitation. Also many athletes are unable to return to their former level of athletic performance within the first postoperative year, with many athletes unable to return to play at all (Panariello, 2015). Epidemiology An ACLR can be caused by many mechanisms with 70% being reported with a noncontact nature and 30% reported with the involvement of contact from an outside force such as an opposing player. Of the non contact mechanisms, common movements involved in an ACLR include cutting movements, landing from a jump with inadequate hip and knee flexion close to full extension (Silvers Mandelbaum, 2011). Female athletes are at a greater risk of ACL injuries when compared to their male counter parts, with a two to tenfold higher incidence rate (Silvers, Mandelbaum, 2011). Females are predisposed to ACL injuries due to intrinsic factors. Compared to males, females have a smaller ACL cross sectional area as well increased quadriceps angle (Sutton, Bullock Montgomery, 2013). However, although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main advantage of leasing is to acquire the necessary equipment or assets, use that assets to generate revenue but without tying up a big amount of cash upfront. Reporters, photographers, and illustrators were sent to the ruins to report and write to the national and international readership. In 1956, the city installed a modest monument at the site where the fire started, Dekoven and South Jefferson streets, dedicated to it s new fire academy and designated Chicago s landmark on 15 September 1971. The landmark is a bronze sculpture of flames entitled Pillar of Fire and sculpted by Egon Weiner. At the base of the pillar the plaque reads Here began the Chicago Fire of 1871...Site of the origin of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 ...The great Chicago fire began October 8, 1871, in the O Leary barn on DeKoven Street. Fanned by a strong wind, in a city largely built of wood structures, the blaze raged for nearly 30 hours. Flames spread so far as Fullerton Avenue, before finally dying out in the early morning rain, October 10. Almost everything in the path of the fire had been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Worst Damage Of Sonoma County Earthquakes are something that happen every day all around the world. Most earthquakes are very small and go unfelt, however every once and while there are massive earthquakes that cause tremendous damage to life and property. Sonoma County has a lot of fault lines running through it. These faults line are; the San Andreas Fault, the Rodgers Creek Fault, the Maacama Fault and the Healdsburg Fault. Since 1855, there have been more than 140 earthquakes that have actually been felt where we live in Santa Rosa Area Of the earthquakes that have cause damage, the worst damage was caused by; 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, 1969 Rodgers Creek/ Healdsburg Fault Earthquake, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, 1994 Northridge Earthquake. We should use the data of past earthquakes in our area to help come up with a plan in case there is another major earthquake in Sonoma County. Data suggests that there is a 63% probability of at least one magnitude 6.7 or greater earthquake striking somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area before the year 2032. The key to surviving and earthquake is to be prepared. Earthquakes are caused when two blocks of earth suddenly slip past one another. The surface where the two blocks slip is called the fault. The earthquake starts below the earth s surface at the hypocenter, and the location above the hypocenter is called the epicenter. Earthquakes can have foreshocks which is a smaller earthquake that happens before the larger quake. Earthquake can also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Plato s Euthyphro Our thought process and our framework of how we choose to go about our day are shaped by our beliefs and morals. What is the difference between the two? How do we choose which one is right? Plato s Euthyphro dilemma challenges that idea, he asked a timeless question of It s morally good and God recognizes it as morally good so it s morally good or is it morally good because God wills it to be morally good? We can argue and take the first side that humans have a moral compass and possess the ability to differentiate what is right or wrong without religion governing them. It can be interpreted that we can be morally good, so therefore being morally good can be independent of God. God recognizes the deed as morally good and then approves ... • 28. Aquatic Experience In Pediatric Emergency Room For children and adolescents, the experience in pediatric emergency waiting rooms can be problematic. According to different age groups, there are a variety of psychosocial concerns and developmental considerations that health professionals should be aware of in the pediatric unit. The environment of the emergency room is busy and chaotic, which can increase the level of anxiety and stress for the whole family. For infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children, parent separation is a common factor that makes them anxious (Brunnquell Kohen, 1991). In the chaotic environment, children express their anxiety by crying, kicking or even regressive behaviors such as stop walking. Thus, there should be more family couches for patients to ... • 29. Adam Pelech In The NHL Draft The NHL draft, once beyond the second round, can be likened to shooting fish in a barrel, as the saying goes. There is no clear cut way of determining what the end result of a players potential really will be once he has gone through the rigors of your organization s development plan. And that s not to say the development plan is all that shapes the player. There are many other intangibles and personal factors that come into play as well, ultimately separating the Shea Weber s from the Michael Del Zotto s (sorry Micheal, just for comparison sake). In the third round of the 2012 entry draft, the New York Islanders chose a Canadian defenseman by the name of Adam Pelech with the 65th overall selection. Never projected to be a prototypical offensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The trade market has started to heat up and we saw last night that the unexpected can happen at the most unexpected times a midnight deal sending Ducks Carl Hagelin to Pittsburgh for David Perron. A blockbuster involving Ryan Johanssen and Seth Jones was just completed. There are forwards said to be available should Snow choose to walk down that path. Jonathan Drouin, Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent Hopkins and Tyler Ennis are just some of the names being thrown around as we head into the all star break and February 29 trade deadline. What Snow ultimately does could depend on the continued development of Pelech, who doesn t seem fazed by the challenge. I m just grateful for the opportunity to be here and want to do the best I can with the minutes I ve been given. It s been very humbling but I know I have the skill to be here and ... • 30. The Battle Of Creationism And Evolutionary Theory The battle of creationism and evolutionary theory is not a new one. That being said, in order to understand whether creationism has a place in secondary education, one must first understand the complexity of the matter. Evolution in itself is a theory proposed by Charles Darwin in 1859. Grossly simplified, the theory states that life evolved from non life; the concept of descent with modification. This theory arouses conflict because many Christians believe that it negates the literal interpretation of the biblical creation story. It is from this story that the theory of creationism began. While some may argue that creationism deserves to be taught alongside evolutionary theory within the science curriculum of secondary schools of a municipality or state, these individuals are mistaken. Creationism is not a science, therefore by teaching it one violates the first amendment and also further develops the religious inequality that its supporters argue teaching it creates. There is no place for creationism in the science curriculum within secondary public education. To begin, the idea that creationism is a science is a troublesome one in itself. According to Creationism.org, the leading authority on Creation Science, creationism is, the theory that man, the earth, and the rest of the universe were originally created rather than randomly exploding from nothingness into chance existence . Science as a practice is not this way. By definition, science is the knowledge about or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Essay On The Paradox Of Slavery Which came first, the chicken or the egg, slavery or racism? The question of whether racism is the root of slavery, or if slavery caused racism is an ongoing debate that throughout history historians has been batting to answer, and have yet to come to an agreement. Some people think that people were made slaves because of prejudice toward the color of their skin, therefore, racism caused slavery; others believe that people saw slaves as inferior to them, and therefore slavery caused racism. Jordan s The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery , Morgan s The Paradox of Slavery and Freedom and Bacon s Rebellion helps us see where the separation between white and black slaves began in America. Slavery and racism are interconnecting, but by looking at the sources and articles, we can see that slavery caused racism. The article of Jordan s The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery helps to look at not only two sides of the discussion, but also a third side, that both racial prejudice and slavery work hand in hand. The Article The Paradox of Slavery also helps us see how slavery and racism connect. The first side in The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery shows that slavery causes racism. When people first started migrating to America, most Africans were equal to the English settlers. It is equally clear that a substantial number of Virginia s Negroes were free or became free. And all of them, whether servant, slave, or free enjoyed most of the same rights and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
