Question 2: How effective is the
combination of your main and
ancillary texts
As a group our target was to
create a promotional
package that would work
well promoting our film
using a recognizable poster
and film magazine cover.
Our two ancillary texts support our main product in different ways. One way it
supports it is that it is relevant to the trailer and both are also reflective of the
narrative.
Its not just a promotional package, it helps build the story. They have been
designed in this way to extend “the brand” recognition using the following.
As we focused our product on the Paranormal Activity
films, our products share some similarities. For example
the title appears in all three products – they all have
the same font and color. We did this so that audiences
could easily identify with our film.
Typography
We thought that using the white chalk typography was
very effective.
It gives the audience an idea what the film is about
schools and teenagers and something going wrong
hence the change of color to red to represent danger.
Location
The background of our poster includes a scene from the same
location used in our trailer.
We did this to create the atmosphere of a school as it is a school
corridor and once again build a relationship between each
product.
Genre
We felt that we
conveyed the genre
well across all three
media products. It
was a challenge trying
to find an example of
a paranormal film
magazine cover to
compare ours too but
we thought ours
associates well with
others.
Cast
• The characters appear in all three media
products to reinforce the plot and who is
involved which perhaps makes readers

  • 1. Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts
  • 2. As a group our target was to create a promotional package that would work well promoting our film using a recognizable poster and film magazine cover.
  • 3. Our two ancillary texts support our main product in different ways. One way it supports it is that it is relevant to the trailer and both are also reflective of the narrative. Its not just a promotional package, it helps build the story. They have been designed in this way to extend “the brand” recognition using the following.
  • 4. As we focused our product on the Paranormal Activity films, our products share some similarities. For example the title appears in all three products – they all have the same font and color. We did this so that audiences could easily identify with our film.
  • 5. Typography We thought that using the white chalk typography was very effective. It gives the audience an idea what the film is about schools and teenagers and something going wrong hence the change of color to red to represent danger.
  • 6. Location The background of our poster includes a scene from the same location used in our trailer. We did this to create the atmosphere of a school as it is a school corridor and once again build a relationship between each product.
  • 7. Genre We felt that we conveyed the genre well across all three media products. It was a challenge trying to find an example of a paranormal film magazine cover to compare ours too but we thought ours associates well with others.
