3. Genre
I think that we were successful in clearly establishing our genre in both our main
product and ancillary texts. The comedic genre is conveyed through the trailer by
our comical phrases and use of props and consumes. For example, the green
balloon; utilized in both the trailer and the magazine reflects the idea that the
teenagers are amateurs, which overall helps to reflect our genre.
Props/Iconography
Our use of props and iconography linked well throughout all of the texts. Our three
main props were the green balloon, the clapper and the orange gun, all used in
the trailer. We chose to include the green balloon on the magazine cover so that
when our audience saw the magazine the use of iconography would lead the
audience to relate back to our trailer. As for the gun and the clapper, we decided to
incorporate them into our posters as we thought as well as providing a clear link to
the trailer, the props also help to distinguish each individual character.

4. Logo
The “Take2” logo was used in all three products, strengthening success of our
product as a promotional package. By creating a film logo, we saved ourselves
the hassle of choosing the most appropriate typography for each product, for
instance; a font that may look good on the magazine may not have complimented
the other fonts in our magazine. Furthermore, we adapted the clapper icon into the
logo to strengthen in relationship between the trailer and the ancillary texts.
Character fonts
In the trailer we gave the characters name slates to introduce them and as we
were creating individual character posters we would need to introduce them there
also, so we decided to make characterised fonts. Each font gives the appearance
that it is the characters hand writing. This contributes to the portrayal of four very
different personalities and it also fits in with the fact they are collage students.
5. Tagline
We felt that our tagline “Four teens crash into the big screen” would work well in
the trailer as tagline is clearly related to the footage. However this is a different
story for the magazine and posters as the tagline is associated with the film
making, which is not instantly detectable when looking at our posters and
magazine, therefore we decided to opt for a different tagline for the magazine
“Turner Tackles Alien Invasion” we though this worked well on the magazine as
the iconic balloon is meant to signify the alien and the alliteration reflects the
genre as it is creative and quirky.
Institutional Information
We included our production logo on on trailer and our magazines as this gives
audiences a sense of whether the film will be right for them as thy will be aware of
our mainstream company and its track record of film releases. There was no
recognition of Horizon Productions on the magazine as the magazine is created
and distributed by a different institution to our own. When addressing this issue we
thought to promote our Take2 posters on the cover by using a puff, this allows are
product as much recognition as possible
