1) Multiconsult is a leading consulting and design engineering firm in Norway with 1,400 employees working across various business areas including transportation and infrastructure which accounts for around 1/4 of their revenue.
2) They presented on using Autodesk Infrastructure Modeler to create a 3D terrain model of a proposed 450-500 km high speed rail line from Drammen to Stavanger including over 100,000 landscape files and detailed 3D modeling of the rail line, tunnels, bridges, and a sample 65 km section.
3) They also discussed using Revit, Civil 3D, and 3ds Max for BIM coordination and visualization of road and rail projects in Norway including a ski station project with

2. Agenda
▪ MULTICONSULT
▪ Use of Autodesk Infrastructure Modeler in early phase design of a large rail
project in Norway
▪ Use of Civil 3D, Revit and 3ds Max for design, coordination and
visualization of road and rail projects in Norway
4. Multiconsult is a leading firm of consulting and design
engineers, which operates throughout Norway and overseas.
Multiconsult have 1,400 employees across the whole of Norway, based at
offices from Kristiansand in the south to Tromsø in the north.
Multiconsult is a owned by employees, former employees a trust and
WSP (25%)
5. Multiconsult operates in six business areas:
Building and property
Industry
Oil and gas
Energy
Environment and natural resources
Transportation and infrastructure
6. .Transportation and infrastructure :
-more than 500 of MC employee 2011 worked in this business area
-around ¼ of MC’ s revenue comes from the transportation &
infrastructure
-It is the backbone of both the society & our company
12. Ski Station
▪ is located 24 km south of Oslo Sentralstsjon
▪ Is part of Follobane project. The entire project from Oslo S will significantly
go underground and is estimated to cost 11.6 billion NOK (13 billion SEK).
Together with the existing path on the route will cause a sharp increase in
kapsiteten on the line. Following line designed for 250 km / h and can be
the first stage in a possible high-speed rail to Sweden and Europe.
13. The project has many temporary structures and temporary
tracks changes.
17. All items to be placed into any of the discipline models must constantly be checked
against the final design but not least all temporary structures and instalasjoner
18.
19. Phase Filter in Revit allows us to constantly keep check on
what type of objects that are dependent on each other
56. High Speed Rail Assessment Phase 3 – South Corridor
- 450-500 km high-speed line from Drammen to Stavanger
▪ A mission carried out in conjunction with the Norwegian National Rail
Administration.
▪ The reports are prepared by a team of Multiconsult and our partner WSP.
57. There are prepared two reports in the mission:
▪ A route report in which pathways and technical solutions for the four
different options are documented through text, maps and illustrations.
▪ An environmental report that documents and compares the impacts of the
various options in relation to landscape, natural environment, cultural,
community and outdoor recreation and natural resources
58. Our services
▪ • Development of rail routes
• Station Location
• Evaluation of mountain conditions and soil conditions
• Assessment of bridges and other large structures
• Flow Calculations for cost model
• Impact
▪ • Visualization / 3D
59. Divide the railway line in the areas of max 30 km length
- graphical limitations in Revit Architecture
65. Autodesk Infrastructure Modeler (AIM)
- 450 to 500 km double track railway from Drammen to Stavanger
▪ Landscape model is based on standard data from Norway digital.
▪ Consists total of more than 100,000 files
▪ Is 35 GB large
▪ Is based on database technology that makes it entirely runs on a standard PC
▪ Terrain model based on a 10-meter grid, DEM-files
▪ Ortho photo approximately 5,000 files
▪ Rail line is based on three different shapefiles, (Surface – Tunnel – Bridge )
▪ 150 to 190 tunnels - Tunnel ratio between 48 and 57%
▪ 130 to 180 bridges / viaducts
▪ Three of the bridges are modeled in more detail
