A video clip about on how to bake a cake. Ask them if they cook at home, if they follow the right procedure in
cooking their favorite food.
Discussion of New Concept # 1 Lesson Proper on the classification of signal words.
Utilize the SOLO model:
Pre-structural: What do you know about signal words?
Unistructural: Based on the video, what signal words were used on the right procedures of baking a cake?
Discussion of New Concept # 2 Discussion on the uses of signal words correctly to achieve coherence.
Multi-structural: Give examples of different types of signal words.
Developing Mastery Leading for
Formative Assessment
The students are going to answer an activity classifying the different signals used in the sentences.
Relational: How do signal words affects the construction of each sentence?
Finding Practical Applications of
concepts and Skills in Daily Living
The students will be given a task wherein they are going to share a step-by-step procedure on how to cook rice.
Relational: Discuss the procedures of cooking rice by using signal words.
Making Generalization/Abstraction
About the Lesson
The students will generalize the lesson about signal words by discussing their classifications and functions.
Unistructural: What new information have you learned about signal words?
Multi-structural: What are the classifications of signal words and discuss the different functions of each classification.
Evaluating Learning Conduct a brief quiz on kinds of signal words to assess students’ understanding.

Taduran Chosen Grade Level and Subject Area: English 8 Chosen Competency (lifted from MELCs): Identify and use signals that indicate coherence Instructional Objectives: Classify kinds of signal words that indicate coherence ; and Use signal words correctly to achieve coherence. Learning Approach to be Used: Text Structure & Metacognitive Approach Based on the Procedure Part of the Daily Lesson Log (DLL) Activity (May be spread out across a week) Review of the Previous Lesson/s or Presenting New Lesson Brief review of the previous lesson on using modals. Introduce the new lesson by explaining that today's focus is on using signal words to achieve coherence. Establishing a Purpose for the New Lesson Unlocking of Difficulties *Coherence *Signal Words
  • 2. Presenting Examples/ Instances of the New Lesson A video clip about on how to bake a cake. Ask them if they cook at home, if they follow the right procedure in cooking their favorite food. Discussion of New Concept # 1 Lesson Proper on the classification of signal words. Utilize the SOLO model: Pre-structural: What do you know about signal words? Unistructural: Based on the video, what signal words were used on the right procedures of baking a cake? Discussion of New Concept # 2 Discussion on the uses of signal words correctly to achieve coherence. Multi-structural: Give examples of different types of signal words. Developing Mastery Leading for Formative Assessment The students are going to answer an activity classifying the different signals used in the sentences. Relational: How do signal words affects the construction of each sentence? Finding Practical Applications of concepts and Skills in Daily Living The students will be given a task wherein they are going to share a step-by-step procedure on how to cook rice. Relational: Discuss the procedures of cooking rice by using signal words. Making Generalization/Abstraction About the Lesson The students will generalize the lesson about signal words by discussing their classifications and functions. Unistructural: What new information have you learned about signal words? Multi-structural: What are the classifications of signal words and discuss the different functions of each classification. Evaluating Learning Conduct a brief quiz on kinds of signal words to assess students’ understanding. Additional activities for application or remediation
