2. DVD Covers
• Dvd covers helps the target audience symbolise what they are in for example
there many dvd covers around nowadays and they have a focus point on what
we need to focus on when seeing it this is done for us to buy the dvd and
watch it for us to understand what will happen in the film or moving image that
is being advertised.
• In addition to this dvds are discs that allow us to store large data they have
covers for us so we are able to know what it will contain, the covers usually
have things on it relating to the content of the disc the main image is enlarged
so the audience know the main characters of the film production.
• They may have include other images to connote things that are not obvious
about the film, on the back of the cover there are stills from the film included
on it, this perhaps helps the audience know what the film is about.
• The image is used for identification in the context of critical commentary of the
work for which it serves as cover art. It makes a significant contribution to the
user's understanding of the article, which could not practically be conveyed by
words alone.
3. BOOK COVERS
• Book covers have images that not everyone is accustomed to in everyday society and that’s
what makes it really eye catching for us the target audience because we don’t see this all the
time. Books covers have images to connote what the genre of the book is or symbolise what
the narrative is. Images are placed on the book to illustrate what the text on the front cover
doesn’t already tell the readers.
• Front cover contents may usually be: For novels, the novel title in large letters, author name,
tagline and symbol of publisher (in corner)
• Back cover (also called 'lower cover') contents may usually be: For novels, a back cover text
or teaser that gives a hint of the story in an attractive way.
• A picture of the writer.
• A summary
• In this book cover we can already identify the genre with the deathly hallows behind the girl
in the dress which is (horror) this cover already symbolises that when you read this book you
will be interested because women do not wear white dresses at any given time this means
that something is different about this spectacle and gives us something to look forward too
and gives us an incite of what you can possibly imagine.
• The tittle and the catchy slogan on the side shows what we are in for the builds
suspense in the readers head already the use of the colour red shows the severity that
it may contain death and killing of someone, the words “lost in a daydream, what do
you see?” this means we should look out for something and should be worried and
intrigued on what going to happen ( as the front cover gives us a flavour of what could
happen in the book)
