2. Motivation
Title of the class was amusing: “How 2 Use Ur
iPod”
Was interested in learning more about how to
use technology in an academic setting
Interested in taking an ITEC class
Wanted to take an online class– never had the
opportunity to before
4. Learning Preferences
Reflective-7
Sensing- 5
Prefer to review & study
independently
Prefer to learn facts & like
solving-problems through
familiar methods
I tend to think things through
before acting upon them most of
the time
For me personally, it is helpful
leaning towards a more
“sensing” preference in a STEM
major (Biology), even though my
personality I tend to be more
intuitive
Depending on the situation, I
can be more intuitive at times
Summarizing or taking own
notes to review material is
helpful to a reflective learner
Can tolerate sitting in lectures
easier than their active
counterparts
5. Learning Preferences
Visual- 9
Global- 5
Prefer pictorial references, such
as PowerPoint slides or
diagrams
Tend to learn non-linearly
Drawing out difficult concepts
makes them easier for me to
understand
Have a broad understanding of
concepts vs. acknowledging
details
Color-coding my notes helps me
organize information more
efficiently
I tend to get the “big picture” first
before understanding more
minute details
I learn better by seeing
connections between concepts
and getting an overview of
material first
Visual resources like interactive
CD-ROMS are also helpful in
learning material
6. Thoughts about Learning Preferences
Used to help an individual find out how they perform as
a student
Can potentially be used to guide a student to use their
learning preferences to be successful in a class
Discover effective means of studying by exploring
various learning tools
Although learning preferences are useful, they should
be used as a tool and can vary from person to person.
7. Learning Pathway: Learning Warrior
Primary Goal: Exploring fewer
technologies and focusing on
personal growth
I selected this pathway in order to
apply what I had learned in this
quest, to other classes as well as
outside an academic environment
8. Activities in Learning Warrior Pathway
Level 1 Quizzes gave me a broad understanding on
what and how the technologies were used
Level 2 forum activities allowed me to interact with
other people on their experiences using said
technology
Level 3 allowed me to explore the technology in an
“hands on” environment
Overall, I was able to see how the technology chosen
could be potentially helpful to me in any one of my
classes
9. Top 3 Technologies: Focused on Mobile
technologies
iPods/iPhones
iPads/tablets
Micro blogs (eg: Twitter &
Tumblr)
10. iPods/iPhones
How to use the iPod for learning apps,
holding files such as PDFS, holding
flashcards, listening to lecture recordings,
etc.
iPads/Tablets
How to use the iPad to view documents,
how to create documents, or working with
other people for study groups, watch
videos, use interactive apps, browsing
micro blogs
Microblogs
Using Twitter or Tumblr as reference sites
to learn more about a specific topic,
interact with other people with similar
interests

11. Using these Technologies
I already owned an iPhone, iPad, as well as had experience
using Tumblr
It was fairly easy to utilize these technologies in different
classes
I mainly used the iPad for viewing & storing lecture slides,
as well as creating documents via Google Doc and Drop
Box. Also useful for accessing iLearn
The iPhone was useful in making flashcards and listening to
recorded lectures
Micro blogs tended to be distracting, even though there
were a lot of educational-based Tumblr blogs
Overall, it was easy to access a lot of online content using
the iPhone & iPad
12. Physiological Factors & Learning
I learned how to manage stressors during midterms and finals
week
Little changes such as adjusting my sleep schedule, drinking
more water & less caffeine, and using the stairs more often
helped me feel better physically
Feeling better physically allowed me to mentally focus my
energy more on studying, rather than how tired I felt or having
the carnal desire to consume a vast amount of chocolate
Having knowledge of how physical & mental health plays into
my ability to learn, allows me to take better control over how I
react to potentially stressful events– finals week, giving a
presentation, or facing my fears, etc.
13. Utilizing what I have learned
Taking more efficient notes– using color coding, summarizing
large chunks of information into my own words
Taking advantage of lecture presentations (if provided by
instructor/professor for class use)
Putting time to study in consistently over a longer period of
time vs. studying in large chunks (aka cramming information)
Making sure I keep myself physically and mentally healthy in
order to perform at my best
Using my learning preferences to play to my advantage when
learning new information
To look for various resources to supplement my education
14. Concluding Thoughts
Overall, this class was a very unique experience
Although a lot of the work was independent, I felt like I
was still able to interact with a lot of people in the class
Learned about various technology and using them in
unorthodox ways (eg: using the Twitter hashtag to learn
about different current events)
Knowing my own learning preferences has helped me
study more effectively for difficult classes
Discovered new ways of learning different material
Would recommend people to take this class if they are
interested in technology in general
