1. Question 7
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to the full product?
2. Since completing the preliminary task I believe I have made a lot of
progression to my final product. To begin with when making my
preliminary pages I used no tools when editing the pictures,
looking at the overall product I believe it didn’t look very
professional as the images looked as if anybody could have taken
them. Therefore I decided to do some secondary research on
different editing techniques that could be applied to my images in
my magazine, such as looking at online tutorials on how to present
the artist with clear skin. The preliminary task also allowed me to
experiment with different colour schemes and layouts. This meant
when it came to the final task I had an idea of what colour schemes
worked to attract the audience towards my magazine.
example I now know how to make elements of my magazine stand
out more by using drop shadows and outer glows. In addition to
this, I have increased my knowledge on how to select parts of
photos using the quick selection tool in order to cut things out on
Photoshop.

3. Main image.
• From preliminary task I have learnt the importance of
attracting your target audience and making sure
elements of my magazine appeal to them, for example
on my magazine front cover the main image I have
thought about makeup, hair and costume, by choosing
this particular outfit it would make my magazine more
appealing to my target audience. The images taken for
the preliminary task I feel didn’t give as strong as
impact as the main task. By using a digital camera
rather than a phone was partly due to my lack of
experience and also I believe I have thought about the
mise-en-scene, costumes and props into much more
detail than the preliminary task. Furthermore in my
preliminary task I didn’t consider costume at all,
however as we had more time to complete the music
magazine I could take this into consideration. Moreover
I analysed and identified conventions of existing hip-
hop magazines, this helped me develop my magazine to
make it more conventional.
4. In design
• There are a lot more features that I have
understood since doing the main task which
defiantly look more professional and helps
attract the audience. I have also improved my
skills on InDesign as on my preliminary I found
the software quite difficult as I had never used
it before, but now I have learnt new things such
as sorting out the layout of the page and
importing images and text. I feel I have used
more of a variety of techniques than my
preliminary task. For example I have included
quotes, freebies and more information to
appeal to the audience where as my
preliminary task lacked this.

5. • Overall my understanding of many software's
has improved greatly throughout this project
because at the start I'd barely used software's
such as InDesign and now I have produced a
professional looking magazine using it. The
most important thing I have learnt is how to
make my work look professional and how to
make it appeal to my target audience. Since
creating my college magazine I have went into
more depth when researching magazines. Also
I feel I have a greater understanding and
knowledge on how to produce a music
magazine as my main task looks much more
interesting and links much better to what it is
about this is due to my improvement and
development you can clearly tell in comparison
to the preliminary task.
