To design an effective school magazine, the document recommends conducting audience research through a survey. The survey should include a mix of closed and open questions to gather both specific demographic information as well as open-ended feedback. It should be distributed on paper to at least 20 people to collect a useful range of responses that will help determine what content and design features the target audience wants and expects from the school magazine.
2. RESEARCH
Before you create your school magazine you will need to conduct
audience research.
This research allows you to find out what your audience expect from
a school magazine, as well as other features they may want from one.
In order to conduct this research you will need to create an audience
survey.
3. SURVEY QUESTIONS
A closed question could be:
What age group do you fit into?
13-14 15-16 17-18 19-20 20+
This type of question can only lead
to one answer. These questions are
easier to analyse and put the results
into graphs.
An open question could be:
What articles would you read in a school
magazine?
Because this question has no
options this can lead to a range of
different answers
Your survey should consist of 10 questions
These questions should be a range of open and closed questions,
this will give you a range of information to work with when you
design your magazine
4. YOUR SURVEY
This survey will be created on paper, you will need to collect
responses from a range of people.
Aim to get at least 20 responses for your survey.
The more responses you get the more useful the information will be.
Remember you need to get information on how to design your
magazine and what your audience wants from a school magazine.
Make sure your questions allow you to get this information.
