Primary education in Britain is compulsory between ages 5-16, usually taking place first at a primary school until age 11, then at a secondary school until 16-18. There are two main types of schools - state schools which are run and funded by the government and free for students, and private schools where students pay tuition fees. After secondary school around age 18, students often attend universities, of which the top ones are considered to be Cambridge, Oxford, and others such as Birmingham, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
