British Education System: Schools, Stages, and Holidays
1. BRITISH EDUCATION
Education is an important part of British life. British
education is a devolved matter, with each country
having a separate education system.
Education in England is the responsibility of the
Secretary of State for Education, thought the day to
day administration and funding of state school is
reponsibility of Local Authorities (previously named
Local Education Authorities)
2. I. British School
British children are required by law to have an
education until they are 16 years old.
For many areas the year is divided into sixterms :
September to October
October to December
January to February
April to March
June to July
3. The main school holidays are :
Christmas 2 weeks
Spring 2 weeks
Summer 2 weeks
There are also one week holidays :
end of October
Mid February
End of May
4. Education Stages
Nursery School : 3-4 years old
Primary School :
5 – 11 years old
Foundation Stage – Nursery, Reception, (Inflants)
Key Stages 1 – Years 1 and 2 (Inflants)
Key Stages 2 – Years 3 – 6 (Juniors)
Secondary Schools :
12 – 18 years old
Years 7 – 13 (Key stage 3,4, & 5)
