Queer People In Pop Culture
Media, whether it is social media or television, magazines or books, has played an important part of
shaping the American view on the queer community over time. Media has been the main source of
information of popular culture and has shined a light to the issues facing this community. Television
shows are the products of historical changes and their content and themes provide indications of
shifts in the American societal views and culture of the time period. The understanding of gay sexual
relationships on television in shows such as Modern Family, Scandal, and How to Get Away With
Murder, show the gradual shift away from the negative stereotypes that have followed the
characterization of queer people in television, towards a more normal portrayal of the queer as
people, members of their families and communities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in the case with the show Faking It, an MTV series, where two female best friends pretended to
be gay in order to gain popularity within their high school. This show also touched upon the
transgender community by making the most popular girl in high school transgender. Her case was
that when she was born she had no sex, having ambiguous genitalia, meaning she was a boy and a
girl and her parents chose for her to be a girl. It came out that she was taking medications for her
body to make the necessary hormones and accepted her and saw her as strong. This portrayal of the
acceptance of heterosexuals accepting a transgender girl on this television show normalizes the self–
acceptance amongst LGBT people. Another MTV series, Awkward, shows girls who experiment
with other girls, glorifying the bisexual community and putting it in a positive and natural

The ' Verchimelungsmaifest Gegen Den Rationalismus Der...
This manifesto, originally called the "Verchimelungsmaifest gegen den Rationalismus in der
Architektur", has been presented during a recitation in the Abbey of Seckau, in Austria, on the 4th of
July 1958, by his author Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Hundertwasser (Friedrich Stowasser; born 15 December 1928 in Vienna) was an Austrian visionary
architect, artist and spiritual ecologist, founder of the "Transautomatism" theory and style. He
believed that he was at the vanguard of the Avant–guard, transcending the automatism of the
Tachism and the Informalism, reaching this way an ultimate unsurpassable point, from which all
improvements and efforts can be inspected and organized as a meaningful whole.
He often referred to himself as the architecture doctor, redesigning functional and industrial building
into art pieces.
Abstract
This paper deals with the idea that everyone should have freedom in architecture, the same freedom
that everyone has in painting and sculpture: to produce any kind of work and afterwards exhibit it.
This freedom can only be achieved if we let everyone build his own dwellings and be the architect–
bricklayer–occupant of the building, as this is the only way for the man to regain his critical–
creative function, without which he cannot exist as a human being. The author compares people
living in buildings built following functional architecture rules, to animals living in cages, all
equally foreign to the nature of the "cage". Straight lines are

The Depiction Of A Hero In Captain America
It's another beautiful day with people weaving in and out of buildings getting to their destination
following the status quo.The normal everyday routine when all of a sudden something goes south
extremely quickly.A villain appears and starts terrorizing the town, and it seems that no one can save
the citizens. Then bursting into action a Hero bursts onto the scene and saves the day, and ultimately
the hero ends up winning. The No matter who the hero may be all hero movies follow the same
theme. What really changes is the way that said hero is built up through the cinematography of the
movie. That is where the true differences can be made, but the depiction of one hero in particular
remains constant. That hero being Captain America. The first box office depiction of Captain
America took place in 1990 and evolved to what we know and have seen in Captain America the
Winter Soldier.

Gangsta Rap And Its Impact On The Rap Game
"You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge" (Rob,2002). Gangsta rap, music's
biggest rebellion formed from this "street knowledge." "In a pop world where rap was still
considered a novelty, it was a serious shock to the system" (Rob,2002). N.W.A short for N****s
With Attitude affected the rap game in three ways, positively, negatively, and overall. It was twenty
years ago that the rap group N.W.A with Ice Cube as its most vital lyricist released its album
"Straight Outta Compton". They called their music reality rap, everyone else called it gangsta and
music history was made. Hip hop music came from the clubs and sidewalks of New York City as
party music made with turntables and rhymes by performers who usually couldn't afford music
instruments. It was party music and then it came west and got a beat down by a swaggering
collective that called itself N.W.A. They took the genre to the dangerous side of the street
(Boucher,2008). N.W.A's first album 'Straight Outta Compton' influenced a number of films
depicting inner–city violence, such as "Boyz N The Hood" and "Menace II Society." N.W.A
influenced an attitude change about rap music and its impact. 'Straight Outta Compton' changed
what was considered extreme and explicit. N.W.A's music affected people similarly to Nirvana's
"Nevermind" album that introduced grunge in 1991. Their music allowed for a certain freedom.
Now rappers were free to speak their minds no matter how explicit their lyrics were. "At

Two Earth's Book Cover
I wanted to make a book cover that shows how Travis changed his life, so I created two Earth's. The
first Earth represents the things that he did wrong and the second Earth represents him changing
everything that he had done wrong. The colors that I chose for the first Earth are dark red, dark
purple and black. Dark red represents anger because he was upset with his father for not believing in
anything that he did. The second color is dark purple and it represents the sad feelings that he had
during that time. The black represents the unknown things that he didn't know at that time. For the
second Earth I used light yellow, green and dark blue. The light yellow represents joy and freshness
because that's how he was feeling when he got

Essay on Euclid
Euclid Of Alexandria may be the best–known mathematician of the world, he is best known for his
work on mathematics The Elements. The fact that his work has survived so long, 2000 years in fact,
is a tribute to his mathematical genius, however very little of him is known. Three theories abound
as to the true nature of this historical figure. Not all historians agree that Euclid was in fact a
historical figure, some argue that the school in Alexandria took up the name Euclid to publish their
works. But the more accepted theories are that Euclid was in fact a real historical figure who may
have been the leader of a team of mathematicians.
In Euclid's first postulate he states that it is possible to draw a straight line from any point to any ...

Although Euclid (or the school) may have not been first proved by him, (in fact much of his work
may have been based upon earlier writings,) he did manage to insert assumptions and definitions of
his own to strengthen the various postulates into the form we know today.
The Elements begins with the five postulates and their definitions, these postulates prove or define
the existence of points, lines and circles and from there on go to define other aspects of geometry
based upon the simpler concepts. The Elements consists of thirteen books. Some assumptions are
not totally provable, such that there is only one straight line between two points. Euclid makes some
assumptions that make his form of mathematics, Euclidean Geometry, sometimes at odds with other
forms. His fifth postulate, states that only one line can be made through a point parallel to a given
line, eventually, sometime during the 19th century this postulate was dropped in an attempt to study
non–Euclidean geometries.
Euclid's assumptions about his postulates have set the groundwork for geometry today. He provided
society with definitions of a circle, a point, and line, etc and for 2000 was considered "the father of
geometry." His postulates proved to be a framework from which mathematics was able to grow and
evolve, from two thousand years ago, till Newton and even to all our classrooms today.

A is for A Dog named Ollie In 2010 both of my dogs, Daisy and Cody died in December. My family
and I were mournful about our two dog's death ,so we decided to get a puppy. Our family looked on
a website to find puppies and we found a lot of dogs we liked. My mother liked a two year old dog
named Chester ,but I liked a three year old Pug named Scooter. Finally, my family found a Saint
Bernard named Ollie that we absolutely fell in love with. Once we got Ollie he went completely
erratic. He would run and jump straight into our door and would get paranoid every time my family
will go out to dinner or something like that. One time my mother was walking him and he saw a car
and ran straight forward to it. My mom tried to fight back but Ollie

The Issue Of America 's Military
America's military has been around since the beginning of this great country. This military has
become one of the world 's strongest. The country has an Army, Navy, Marines Corps, Air Force,
and a Coast Guard. Those branches don't include all the people involved in the Reserves, Air
National Guard, and the National Guard. As of the 31st of January 2015, America's military
included 1.4 million troops. America's population has reached a total of over 321 million people.
Less than 1 percent of the total population is serving in the military. Of that 1 percent, the LGBT,
also known as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender, community is involved. Is the LGBT

The Article of War of 1916 stated that "assault with the intent to commit sodomy" is a capital crime.
During World War II, this article was used to discharge homosexual soldiers. Sometimes the
discharged soldiers were not engaging in homosexual acts. During the time of World War II, the
Korean War, and the Vietnam War, the military leaders believed that homosexuality was caused by a
mental illness. Thousands of recruits were sent home because the recruiter or a doctor found out that
the recruit was homosexual. Thousands of people could not join the armed forces during World War
II because they were homosexual. During the Vietnam War, many Americans were drafted into the
military. Most of the drafted people wanted to find a way to be discharged from the military. Some
people used excuses to become unfit for being in the armed forces. Mental health, sight, and
sexuality were the main causes for a person drafted to be discharged.
Between the Second World War and the attacks of 9/11, it is estimated that around 100 thousand
soldiers were removed from the military service because of their sexual orientation. Many of these
discharged servicemen and women have attempted to regain their promised benefits of being in the
military. Until more recent times, these attempts for benefits had always failed. From 1983 to 2010,
8,446 Army soldiers were discharged because these soldiers were homosexual. The first discharge of

Examples Of Social Inequalities In The Misfits
Imagine being made fun of just because they were refugees, because you had to escape their old life,
because they had to leave in order to escape a life where they were imprisoned inside their own
home because of a raging war. Or maybe they were be made fun of because they had a different skin
tone, or because they were the only girl in your class. These are all examples of social iniquities,
times when someone may be the target of bigotry because of reasons they usually cannot control.
These inequalities happen all around the world, and can happen in extreme or low amounts of it.
And although social inequality has become a problem throughout the world, the topic still remains a
threat to a better life. There are many inequalities that impact ... Show more content on

The Misfits is based on the premises that bullying is still here, and it is the story of how four friends
overcome prejudice to touch the hearts of many. The Outsiders is a tad less tear–jerking and
heartwarming, but it is about how the Greasers managed to break the stereotypes placed on them
and showing that even the darkest outside can have a shining light inside them. The Greasers were
often bullied, beaten up, jumped, and teased because of them being Greasers. And even though they
were basically forced into being Greasers, they were still rejected by society even though some of
them were still innocent. For example, Johnny got beat up probably because the Socials just didn't
like him being a Greaser. "He had been hunting our football to practice a few kicks when a blue
Mustang had pulled up beside the lot. There were four Socs in it. They had caught him and one of
them had a lot of rings on his hand–that's what had cut Johnny up that bad."(Hinton,33) In The
Misfits, however, all of the main characters are peers with the bullies. Bobby, the narrator, is bullied
because he is overweight, his friend Allison because she is tall and smart, Joe because he dresses
girly and is gay, and Skeezie because he dresses like a Greaser. They are often called names, and it
ends up with sometimes the main characters crying, a sad result. The author also explains why the

Attending college is beneficial for high school basketball players when it comes to entering the
workforce. However, with a goal of becoming a professional basketball player, attending college has
its pros and cons. There are pros and cons for a student going straight to the NBA after high school.
Some high school students want to skip college and go straight to playing basketball and just make
money by what they love doing. Students believe to college should be an option for them to choose
after high school and shouldn 't have to go college because it is mandatory to go to college and play
for one year before moving on. The point of college is to higher your education and to increase the
ability to get paid more money. Cons about going straight to NBA after high school is that you get
treated like a rookie. You can be sitting on the bench majority of the time until they feel like you
have improved during practices to put you in the game. Also, they would not realize the amount of
work that has to be put in and have to adjust to their surroundings. You could have been the best on
your high school team, but soon as you get into the NBA, you have not seen as the same person
anyone because someone has that spot.
Pros of Going to College Right after High School

Personal Narrative: My Experience As A Car
I got my first major exposure to cars when I was two years old after I received a PlayStation and a
copy of the driving simulator, Gran Turismo. At the time, my only objective was to press the gas,
and hope that my straight line speed would somehow win me a race. There was no balance in the
way I handled the car, and this resulted in me crashing often. Despite this, the game still jump–
started my passion for cars. My passion for reading developed as I browsed through countless car
books and car magazines. When I got my first laptop at age seven, I would sift through websites
looking for articles on proper driving technique and racing strategies. However, despite my
inquisitive nature, I did not have opportunities to immerse myself in the physical world of ... Show

As it was a manual transmission car, I had to account for using the clutch pedal and shifting gears,
skills that my uncle taught me quickly. When I shifted into gear on a private road, I immediately
floored it like I did in Gran Turismo, and I almost crashed as I entered my first corner. My uncle told
me that I could not just think instantaneously. I had to balance my throttle, braking, and gear
changes in order to make the best time around a course. Going too fast would leave me wrapped
around a tree, and going to slow would be wasting time. Not only did I have to physically restrict
myself, but also I had to mentally combat the practices that I had been using since I was two. These
were skills that no book could ever teach me. I had to find the perfect physical balance, as well as
the perfect mental balance, so I could drive as fast as possible through a technical course. With
every pass of the road, my cornering became more consistent, and my speed on the straights was
increasing and I understood more about this perfect balance. It was physically and emotionally
taxing, but learning these skills was the most fun I had ever

Straight Outta Compton
Straight Outta Compton is a biopic telling the story of rap group NWA. The movie is for
entertainment but also informs the audience of the rise and fall of not only the group itself but the
members. The film is produced by Ice Cube, Dr Dre, and Tomica Wright, wife of Eazy E, so the
portrayal of the characters is not only authentic, but personal and respectful. The themes, music, and
characters make this movie relatable to minorities. Straight Outta Compton begins with Eric Wright,
Eazy E, in the trap house collecting money from drugs. Before he could get the money the house
gets raided by the police. Not only did the opening scene of the movie involve drugs, but drug use,
and drug distribution were mentioned and displayed throughout the entire movie. The producers
included this to show how prominent drugs were and still are in the black culture. Also, just like
drugs, sex was mentioned in the opening scene of the movie and is displayed throughout the movie.
Sex has always played a big part of the black culture because its talked about in songs and its
displayed in shows and movies. Straight Outta Compton not only shows sex but also what can
happen after sex. Eazy Es' death was a result of HIV, which can be transmitted through having sex.

Bear Trap And Eyeglasses In Ron Rash's The World Made...
There are several symbols in Ron Rash's novel The World Made Straight, the most important being
the bear trap and eyeglasses. What makes them so important is that they serve as major turning
points once they are introduced. They both strongly affect the main character of the novel Travis
Shelton. When Travis gets caught in the bear trap his life seems to be trapped in a never–ending
circle of bad decisions and bad luck. However, once he finds the eyeglasses things finally seem to be
changing for the better. It all begins when the main character, seventeen–year–old Travis Shelton
finds some marijuana plants while fishing. "Travis came upon the marijuana plants while fishing

sells the plants to small–time drug dealer Leonard Shuler. When he returns a second time with more
stolen plants Leonard tells him it is too dangerous to steal anymore. Despite the warning, being the
reckless teenager that he is he proceeds to return a third time to take some more plants. However,
this time Travis does not get away scot free. "A steel trap snapped on a teenage boy's leg [Travis],
and '[t]he sun slid sideways and the ground tilted as well and slapped up against the side of his face'
thus setting in motion the inexorable and harrowing chain of events in Ron Rash's The World Made

Gay couples would be very confused and did wrong at the step of getting married . There are only a

The Heart to Lion is different than the other pieces that have been mentioned. It has a free forming
flow, most of the statue is composed of a long wire and large pieces. The space is very open and
free, it is not enclosed or tight which is normally a positive space, with that being said from all the
open space that the Heart to Lion contains it is in a negative space.Similar to the other pieces this
statue has lines and shapes. The shapes are free forming shapes, they are not dominant shapes as a
circle, square or triangle would be. The shapes on the Heart to Lion are shaped with curved lines to
also show that the shapes are free forming. The lines are seen everywhere, there are curved and bold
lines, the bold lines are very obvious since it is of a darker granted shade than the rest. The line
starts off being a straight bold line, but then seems to end up being curved into the free forming
shapes. The texture of this is rough all around, the only smooth section that is noticeable on the
statue could be the flat part of the shapes or the bold line as well. However, from the overall, sight of
the piece it seems to be rough, but not too rough. The color of this statue is different than the others

white usually there meanings behind the those two colors which are death and peace. Since it is

Stereotypes Of Diversity
In my seventeen years of life, an awards event hosted by GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, and Straight

bought a ticket was given free reign to be who they are. People from every age, gender, sexuality,
race, religion, and social class was given equal opportunity to be themselves. It wasn't diverse
because of strategic planning, but because people wanted to be there. This event made me realize
three main things: those who complain that inclusion of certain demographics is unnecessary are
those who are not exposed to those people, there is a societal structure forced upon people, and there

In August Wilson's 'Fences' : The Actions Of Troy In Fences
"The Crooked with the Straight": The Actions of Troy in Fences If someone were stuck in an ever
repeating weekly cycle completing the exact same actions, would they lead themselves astray just to
get away from the cycle for some time just despite the notable consequences to come from that
action? In August Wilson's Fences, the protagonist, Troy does some regrettable actions. Some of his
actions are crooked and hurt the people around him while others are straight and help those people.
In the play, Troy's relationship with his son, Cory fades. The relationship first starts to wane when
Cory and Troy are in the yard working on the ever so symbolistic Fence in the yard. Cory tells his
father that a recruiter will be visiting him due to his success in both school and in football. Troy asks
if he still has his job but Cory tells him that he will work on weekends. Troy becomes exceedingly
angry with his son and forces him to quit the football team saying that: "The white man ain't gonna
let you get nowhere with that football noway" (35). Even with the tensions high between blacks and
whites in the time period, Troy is still very harsh in his words. Perhaps, this can be attributed Troy's
past experience with baseball which didn't end well for him. This action by Troy is both a crooked
and straight. It is crooked because it holds a bar of limitation over his son's head but it is straight
because Troy is only doing it to protect his son. This event shows the reader that there can

Analysis Of 'Some Garbage I Used To Believe About Equality'
Check your privilege. If you're white, and a man, you're already a bigot. In the paper, "Some
Garbage I Used To Believe About Equality" penned by Johnathan Nightingale, seemed to be a
persuasive argument to get the intended audience, straight white males, to actively be less bigoted,
and more understanding to other people's problems. He mainly states this through a pathos filled
journey of "you think you aren't a bigot", leading on through meritocratic fallacy, and who could
forget the classic, "so you don't think that was racist". He offers little logos examples but a good
placeholder to that would be his arguments through common sense. Some main arguments of this
essay are flawed, but the overarching message is seemingly positive, and agreeable.
The author kicks off by trying to put himself on the same level of his intended audience, stating that
he himself would be implementing the changes he argues for into his own life, just as we should to
ours. The main message being to actively be less of an ass. The author uses inductive reasoning on
his main argument, following along the lines of: You are white and a man, So you are privileged, So
you are ignorant to the struggle of others, So you are a bigot. This line of reasoning is incredibly
flawed and dare i say hypocritical, especially as the basis of the whole essay stemming from this
assumption. The reason being the use of a generalization of an entire people to further a point about
bigotry being negative.
"I know. You're not a grotesque and evil bigot. You didn't vote for Trump." The purpose of this
assumption is to inject pathos into the mix. He implies that even if you feel you aren't apart of his
argument, you still play a role in bigotry. He goes on to justify this by offering the idea that "Being
painted with an unfair, overgeneralized brush is something other folks deal with every damned day."

Straight Outta Compton
Straight Outta Compton opens with the sound of a police helicopter. We are in Compton, a city in
Los Angeles, with large amounts of poverty and violence, and a distinct absence of white people. It's
the mid–1980s, gang and police violence are every day. Out of all this comes N.W.A: a rap group
that decided to take a showdown with the community and writes songs about how life really was for
five black, young boys from Compton. Straight Outta Compton is based on the rise and fall of the
rap group N.W.A.
The acting in this film is memorable. There are especially two actors who deserve recognition. The
first one is the O'Shea Jackson Jr, which plays the role of the Ice Cube in the film. Jackson Jr is the

Straight Outta Compton is about the legendary rap group N.W.A, and their journey from being
young, ambitious boys in the streets of Compton to become world–renowned artists.
The film naturally has a lot of good music, and Joseph Trapanese has done a good job of mixing
N.W.A music and other songs, both contemporary and newer, into the film. The music is best when
we get to enter the studio and watch the artist's record songs.
Fuck Tha Police became one of N.W.A's most famous songs, and the film tells the story of how this
song originated. We get a historical insight into the Los Angeles Police's view of blacks in the 80's
and 90's. Straight Outta Compton is as much a socially critical movie as a biographical film, and this
is one of the film's biggest strengths.
Songs like Express Yourself, Fuck Tha Police and Straight Outta Compton provoked many, but they
also created attention around a new music genre, and the group was a tremendous success. In
addition, they became a great inspiration for several great

Analysis Of Gangsta Rap By W. A.
1988, That's when the so called "Gangsta Rap" emerged with the album Straight out of Compton
N.W.A as a huge product that appealed to the younger generation of African Americans since it was
the rawest thing they've heard, in my opinion, it is as raw as the reality surrounding young African
Americans, which is the reason why it became something huge. The album Straight out of Compton,
N.W.A is one the most successful figures in the hip–hop industry by being a classic that is still being
played to this day. The huge success was rewarded by the most important certifications in the world
of music, by being a double–platinum which means this it doubled the minimum limit for the

The first three songs of the Album are a truly unsafe intro to the streets of South central L.A,
Compton. The song "F the Police" in particular have caused a wide outrage because it came in at a
time when the streets are frustrated with the police for police brutality, harassment, racism, and
being labeled as thugs. The frustration has reached its limits with protests and outrage by the public
when the police refused to provide security for the N.W.A concert tours, as if the police picked its
side against whoever takes part of the movement against its own harassments to the African
American community in Compton. In 1989, a rare scene in the history of music occurred when the
F.B.I notably sent a message to Ruthless Records, the label company for N.W.A, excoriating the
music and all of its content. The message have caused the N.W.A to put it out to the public, even
though it felt like a threat to stop making the music that caused the N.W.A to be more powerful,
mainstream and even noticed outside of the United States for places that go through same
difficulties in life and roughness that the world was totally ignoring. The message from the FBI is a
historical figure in representing the approach by the government to demolish the rights of the N.W.A
group members to freedom of speech even though it invites to fighting the power, and it is today at

Why We Shouldn T Judge Gays
Our society has been judging gays and lesbians for a long time now. They are all innocent , but some
people believe it is a crime to date the same gender. Our society has been judging them for over 29
years. They started judging them in 1988 when a policeman decided to kill a 30 year old gay man
for no reason.People are judged if they are not straight and I believe that they shouldn't judge them.
The reason why i choose not to judge them is because they are just innocent human beings. My
topic is about LGBT liberation. We should treat LGBT fairly because they are always getting pushed
around. Another reason is that LGBT are normal people like me and you. Dont refuse to give them
service because if they are trying to buy something or get something made from someone , some
people would refuse to give them service. Our world needs to stop refusing service to those innocent
people. They did nothing to them so why should they refuse to give them the service when they need
that. If gay rights become accepted kids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So many people had said that about gays and lesbians. I believe we should give both relationships a
chance to do both of this stuff because so many people disagree about them doing this even though
they don't even know that person. For example , religious people believe there is only one kind of
relationships and it is both men and women only. Also another person said "if we allow gay people
to have rights then why not other groups that are not allowed in our society today. Detractors or also
known as someone who criticizes someone or something , should not adopt a child because they
need a mom and dad. There was a law suit against a baker because she refused to bake a cake for a
straight married couple. However i am with my topic of LGBT people who are disowned in our
society and it is really sad that no one helps them. Those are what some people did to LGBT's or

Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage
Gabi Smith

Mr. Pakula
Legalization of Same–Sex Marriage Everyone has the right to be with the person they love. Nobody,
not even the government, should be able to take that kind of happiness and freedom away from
someone. If a girl loves another girl or a guy loves another guy, it should not matter to anyone else
as long as they are happy together. "We are all equals in the world whether we are Black, White,
Hispanic, Indian, or any other race for that matter. Why should we not be equals based on sexuality
orientation" (Gay Marriage Pros and Cons)? Everyone deserves to have the same equal rights.
Everyone has different beliefs and nothing can or will change that. Some people believe in same–
sex marriage and some people do not, but there is still no reason to dislike or judge people that
believe in something someone else does not believe in. Not everyone in the world has the same
beliefs. That is life, it happens. So what is the point of being so against this one belief? Same sex
couples do not walk around bashing on straight people for the person they love, so why can't all
straight couples do the same thing and not bash on same sex couples?
Not only is this situation against some people's beliefs, but it also is against the constitution. "The
first amendment of the constitution states that a person's religious beliefs or lack of thereof must be
protected. Legislatures also cannot discriminate against marriages of the minority party which

What I Learned From The National Little Britches Rodeo...
Embarrassment can be one of the hardest pills to swallow; I know this because of firsthand
experience. As humans we go through humiliation all the way through life. I do not know a single
person who went through life without a moment of discomfiture, if someone has then they must not
live a very audacious life. My personal experience was not only utterly embarrassing but also
broadcasted on national television. I was competing in the National Little Britches Rodeo
Association Finals at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo, Colorado. I have never been one to
mull over a certain moment but incidents like this tend to stick with you. What I learned from this
experience, I will never forget. I have been in the world of rodeo since the day I was born. My father
and sister have always been involved, along with other members of my family: such as my uncles,
aunts, and cousins. I guess you could say that rodeo is a family affair, so indubitably I also fell into
suit and began my own rodeo career. I have had successful and not so successful intervals
throughout the course of my rodeo pursuits; either way each and every one of them have been
memorable in their own right. I started competing at the age of ten on a horse that my family called
Dewey. Dewey was a sorrel gelding that my father roped off of and I ran barrels on. He was the type
of horse that was lazy and only moved by force; we were alike in this way. We had constant success

audi's style could be described as a mix of Art Nouveau and his own unique organic style, which
was influenced by shapes and structures from the natural world. One of Gaudi's most impressive and
beautiful buildings is Casa Batlló. Gaudí designed the building for Josep Batlló, a wealthy aristocrat,
as an upmarket home. He had asked Gaudi to tear down the old one to reconstruct a new one. Gaudí
managed to convince Battló to remodel the existing building instead of tearing it down, and between
1904 and 1906 he redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and completely remodeled
the interior. This building clearly illustrated Gaudi's work. His use of flowing organic lines are
evident and can be seen in my details in the structure. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This work of Gaudi I believe is a clear example of an Artist's vision. Gaudi incorporated his
creativeness into a building produced a concrete example of his vision. To me it feels like this
building you might see in Disneyland, but here it is on a normal street of Barcelona erected amongst
other buildings. Yet it questions our imagination. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the use
of bones, it is simply captivating! This is what Gaudi's work is about to create an impact on its
viewers. I really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely different,
something out of the ordinary.
Another one of Gaudi's famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Though it is unfinished it is still on of
the famous attractions in Barcelona. Whilst the building was actually started by Francisco de Paula
Villar, It was Antonio Gaudi who took over in 1884 by finishing the underground crypt that Villar
had begun to give Sagrada Familia a unique twist and a revolutionary design. Gaudi incorporates his
religious side into this building.
The church was designed to have a total length of 110 m, and a height of 45 m, with twelve towers
between 100 and 115 m high. The ground plan is a Gothic basilical plan in the shape of a Latin
cross, with five naves connecting with a transept that connects to three naves, apse, and ambulatory.

Rabbit Run by John Updike Essay
Rabbit Run by John Updike The world of John Updike's Rabbit, Run is a collection of polarities that
dramatizes the in–betweeness and the constant state of tension that characterizes humanity. A
cursory perusal of John Updike's Rabbit, Run reveals a world of hopeless futility in which Harry
Angstrom runs in ever–tightening circles. Rabbit is always running, from one woman to another,
between Brewer and Mt. Judge, between solitude and society. Rabbit is torn because he has faith in
something meaningful in the world, somewhere, but he fails to find it during any of his frequent but
brief stops. More important than the futile vacuity of Rabbit's world, however, is the fact that he

floppy stacks of slippery newspapers, the kid's toys here and there broken and stuck and jammed," is

Janice's parent's house and heads south towards a mythic land of peaceful orderliness on a beach of

Fashion In The 1920's
Fashion is a way to express yourself and your culture. It is always changing and after tragic events
or other shifts in history it can change drastically. Fashion in the 1910's was all about women having
the "s" figure where they would have a larger bust, a very small waist, and a larger bottom. World
War I came late in the 1910's which changed fashion to what it became in the 1920's. Fashion also
changed as a result of World War II, in the 1950's fashion was all about using excess because of the
aftermath of WWII. Agaub fashion drastically changed in the 1960's when the new look became
"straight out of London". Fashion has changed throughout time, but the greatest changes seen in
fashion occurred from the 1910's to the 1920's and the 1950's ... Show more content on

For women, the main focus was on their body shape. The unnatural "s" figures that were pushed a
pulled with corsets and bustles were what women strived for in the early 1910's. Women's blouses
were tight at the neck and paired with a hobble skirt. A hobble skirt is a straight line fitting skirt.
They would accessorize their look with a hat adorned with flowers and feathers, gloves, and
handbag. These massive hats would generally be wider than shoulder length. They were quite
expensive hats and, thus, reserved for the wealthy. Women's hair was usually pinned up tight under
the hat. Later in the decade, a fuller skirt replaced the hobble skirt. Instead of the length being past
the ankles, the full skirt was cut just above the ankles. The tight neckline on blouses was replaced
with a v–neck line. Hats started becoming flatter and less decorated transitioning to the style of the
1920's. Under these flatter hats women starting pinning their hair closer to their head with little curls
with a little showing beneath their hat. Right before the end of the decade women's fashion starting
gravitating towards the "boyish" look. No more corsets lead to a straighter line and the waist of all
the dresses were dropped. This look carried over to the women's fashion of the

good witch appears instantly. Straight on shot, no camera movement. Music is more haunting, eerie,
and mysterious to represent the orb floating down. Shot 7: Close up. Dorothy scared, nervous, and
confused by this person. Tight head shot. Straight on camera shot, no movement. Music still

makes a close up on the two of them for a close, but not too tight two shot. No sound heard at all

how the director introduced us the viewer to the world of Oz. This is a very important scene in the
movie because it is the first time we are seeing this magical place. It is important that we as the
viewer find it to be just as amazing and awe inspiring as Dorothy does when she walks into it for the

N. W. A Film Analysis: Straight Outta Dynamite
The movie I picked to do this culture analysis on was "Straight Outta Compton". I had the
opportunity to watch this film a few months ago, and I completely loved it. I was not raised in the

Macklemore's Stand for Homosexual Equality
In a world of heterosexual dominance, many are out of place, in other words, the lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community are outsiders. In America, nearly 9 million people
identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. (Slick). Ben Haggerty, better known as
his stage name Macklemore, from Seattle, Washington took this global conflict and created the very
popular music video "Same Love" which has over 126 million views on YouTube. Around the
world, homosexuals are looked down upon, discriminated and are left feeling ashamed. The LGBT
community wants equality therefore, supporter of gay rights, Macklemore took action into his own

(The Trevor project). No matter gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, we all are humans with the
same desire for love. Therefore, we should all have the same rights. Macklemore promotes voting
for love which means equality and standing up for what we believe in.
Furthermore, the goal of the music video is to inspire the LGBT community to be proud of who they
are, promote the gay right movement not only in America but globally and to make a change toward
all of humanity with speaking his belief. Macklemore's "Same love" targets teenagers, adults, any
race, any gender, in efforts, to raise awareness and stop discrimination, support equality and gay
marriage. To begin he starts by targeting adolescents who are suffering from feeling different from
the norm of society, then proceeds through the life span of a homosexual stressing the need for
expectance. The older generations are a little more old school and have a harder time accepting
changes in today's society, such as, homosexuality for this reason some do not believe in equality
like gay rights. The strictly religious communities follow what they were taught in the bible
resulting in not believing in gay rights because God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Bob.

Should Homosexuals Be A Biological Trait?
The gay mind has been a rubrics cube for many scientists for the past years. The mystery that lies
behind the minds of those who like the same sex is one of the most intricate debates. The big
question that is yet to be answered is if homosexuals are made or born naturally. While many
believe that being a homosexual is not a biological trait, others believe that being gay is a
physiological defect. Even though there are many great ideas of why people think that being gay is a
choice, many people like myself, take a stand and insist that being gay is biological. Many studies of
the brains indicate how the brains of straight men and women are different from those of gay men
and women. Studies have also shown how testosterone lacks in the brains of gay men and how there
is an overload of it in gay women. Finally, studies have shown that the influences on the social lives
of homosexuals don't have much of an impact of someone's sexual orientation. Homosexuals have
been looked down upon since the 1800s and even further back. In the book, What's Wrong with
Homosexuality? John Corvino, novelist, inscribes "[T]here were gays in ancient Greece, for
example, even though the Greeks would not have thought of themselves in quite those terms.
Constructionists, by contrast, hold that sexual orientation is cultural and historical: Prior to the late
19th century, when the term 'homosexuals' was coined, there were no such thing as a gay person in

adult world influence and impact people differently. In the kitchen and salvation are two stories
based on their personal experiences during childhood and adolescence. The authors express the
personal struggles they encounter growing up and how it affected them. Both authors cope with

Equal Pay And Compensation Discrimination Essay
People across the world have very different and diverse opinions about whether or not men and
women are equal, and if they should she treated as such. It is baffling that people still debate
whether some human beings are worth more than others, but our world is fighting against inequality.
In 1963 the Equal Pay Act was passed, stating that "men and women [must] be given equal pay for
equal work in the same establishment." (Facts About Equal Pay and Compensation Discrimination).
This is not the only law that has been passed since that strives to promote and achieve gender
equality in the workplace, but despite the efforts of these laws, in America, we still have a gender
wage gap of about 80 cents, and continue to be paid less in almost every employment field (Pay
Equity & Discrimination). The United States is not the only country where there is a significant
wage gap. A somewhat recent study in Canada shows that Canadian citizens are also plagued by the
same inequality in the workplace as American women. The study analyzes the wages of gay men,
lesbians and heterosexual women compared to heterosexual men, as well as lesbians compared to
heterosexual women. The study showed that the greatest gap was between heterosexual men and
heterosexual women, where the women made a whopping 26.21% less than the men. Lesbians made
8.97% less than heterosexual men, but 8.22% more than heterosexual women. Gay men faced the
smallest decrease is wages but still made 4.97% less than

Common Themes In Native American Myth
Ancient Native American cultures have taught about the world and the creatures in it through stories
and myths. They were usually short, straight to the point, and have a lesson behind them that several
generations have told and retold from memory rather than having a written account. The themes
encourage people to respect nature and other people despite physical and emotional differences, how
to deal with emotions through life, and to explain the creation and workings of the world around
them. Although the world is always changing, there are still lessons and values that can be applied to
today's society. In the short Native American myth the "Coyote and Buffalo", there are a couple of
examples of themes; respect nature and an explanation of the natural world. It demonstrates
reverence for nature when wolf doesn't value what he already has so he kills the cow that is given to
him. He is told that he shouldn't kill the cow for food, but to cut off little pieces at a time so that he
will have food for longer. Because of this, Karma catches up with him; he ends up having ... Show

Wealth can be compared in values and attitudes between the two reality television programs of The
Apprentice and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. The similarities of wealth between the two
programs are that both episodes were produced in New York City, USA, where most success is
made and both promote how wealth is gained though success. The differences of wealth between the
two programs are that The Apprentice promotes that wealth is gained through long–term hard work;
whereas Queer Eye promotes that a person can succeed at what they are good at.
In an episode of The Apprentice, ?The Price is Height?, audio codes are used to influence the

An example of audio codes being used in the episode are the theme song called, ?For the Love of

Essay Shelton vs Travis the World Made Straight
Mercedes
English 1101 – 07
Professor
March 4, 2011
Shelton vs. Travis Travis and his father have never seen eye to eye. Shelton once told Travis's high
school principal that he was "nothing but a bother from the day he was born" (Rash 7). This
statement among other things has Travis convinced that his father wants nothing to do with him.
Parents are supposed to support their kids and prepare them for the harshness of the world, but this
is most certainly not the case with Shelton and Travis. Shelton makes his son feel worthless and
unnecessary everyday of his life. Is this cruelty a form of affection or a direct admission of hatred?
As far as Travis is concerned, his father would be perfectly content if he didn't exist. Shelton ...

"An abusive father's involvement with his children is usually based on his own needs, focusing on
activities that he likes instead of what the children may want to do. However, his interest in his
children may come and go, depending on his emotional state" (Scott). One could say that his father
only wish is for Travis to take over the family business, but it is also possible that Shelton has no
desire for his son success. Travis does not lack intelligence but he never led anyone to believe
otherwise. He may have been hiding his intellect from his father, feeling that showing any signs of
cleverness would only annoy him.
"There are situations of where the child shuts down and stays in his own world. Studies have shown
a link between child abuse and delayed intellectual development. The child loses his ability to adapt
to his or her environment leading to poor cognitive development. The child produces feelings of
guilt, violation, loss of control and lowered self–esteem sometimes with suicidal tendencies.
Common problems include emotional and behavioral problems, poor performance in school, and
possible further abuse (Husted).
This is evident in Travis's case; Shelton never encouraged his son to learn or was pleased with
anything he ever did. As a result, Travis saw "laying low" and not having any ambition or dreams as
his only option to avoiding his father's wrath. Shelton seems like the "Alpha Male" type who never
shows emotion and has to be

Queer People In Pop Culture

  • 1. Queer People In Pop Culture Media, whether it is social media or television, magazines or books, has played an important part of shaping the American view on the queer community over time. Media has been the main source of information of popular culture and has shined a light to the issues facing this community. Television shows are the products of historical changes and their content and themes provide indications of shifts in the American societal views and culture of the time period. The understanding of gay sexual relationships on television in shows such as Modern Family, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder, show the gradual shift away from the negative stereotypes that have followed the characterization of queer people in television, towards a more normal portrayal of the queer as people, members of their families and communities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As in the case with the show Faking It, an MTV series, where two female best friends pretended to be gay in order to gain popularity within their high school. This show also touched upon the transgender community by making the most popular girl in high school transgender. Her case was that when she was born she had no sex, having ambiguous genitalia, meaning she was a boy and a girl and her parents chose for her to be a girl. It came out that she was taking medications for her body to make the necessary hormones and accepted her and saw her as strong. This portrayal of the acceptance of heterosexuals accepting a transgender girl on this television show normalizes the self– acceptance amongst LGBT people. Another MTV series, Awkward, shows girls who experiment with other girls, glorifying the bisexual community and putting it in a positive and natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The ' Verchimelungsmaifest Gegen Den Rationalismus Der... This manifesto, originally called the "Verchimelungsmaifest gegen den Rationalismus in der Architektur", has been presented during a recitation in the Abbey of Seckau, in Austria, on the 4th of July 1958, by his author Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Hundertwasser (Friedrich Stowasser; born 15 December 1928 in Vienna) was an Austrian visionary architect, artist and spiritual ecologist, founder of the "Transautomatism" theory and style. He believed that he was at the vanguard of the Avant–guard, transcending the automatism of the Tachism and the Informalism, reaching this way an ultimate unsurpassable point, from which all improvements and efforts can be inspected and organized as a meaningful whole. He often referred to himself as the architecture doctor, redesigning functional and industrial building into art pieces. Abstract This paper deals with the idea that everyone should have freedom in architecture, the same freedom that everyone has in painting and sculpture: to produce any kind of work and afterwards exhibit it. This freedom can only be achieved if we let everyone build his own dwellings and be the architect– bricklayer–occupant of the building, as this is the only way for the man to regain his critical– creative function, without which he cannot exist as a human being. The author compares people living in buildings built following functional architecture rules, to animals living in cages, all equally foreign to the nature of the "cage". Straight lines are ... • 5. The Depiction Of A Hero In Captain America It's another beautiful day with people weaving in and out of buildings getting to their destination following the status quo.The normal everyday routine when all of a sudden something goes south extremely quickly.A villain appears and starts terrorizing the town, and it seems that no one can save the citizens. Then bursting into action a Hero bursts onto the scene and saves the day, and ultimately the hero ends up winning. The No matter who the hero may be all hero movies follow the same theme. What really changes is the way that said hero is built up through the cinematography of the movie. That is where the true differences can be made, but the depiction of one hero in particular remains constant. That hero being Captain America. The first box office depiction of Captain America took place in 1990 and evolved to what we know and have seen in Captain America the Winter Soldier. Before delving straight into the 1990 Captain America movie it is important to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Gangsta Rap And Its Impact On The Rap Game "You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge" (Rob,2002). Gangsta rap, music's biggest rebellion formed from this "street knowledge." "In a pop world where rap was still considered a novelty, it was a serious shock to the system" (Rob,2002). N.W.A short for N****s With Attitude affected the rap game in three ways, positively, negatively, and overall. It was twenty years ago that the rap group N.W.A with Ice Cube as its most vital lyricist released its album "Straight Outta Compton". They called their music reality rap, everyone else called it gangsta and music history was made. Hip hop music came from the clubs and sidewalks of New York City as party music made with turntables and rhymes by performers who usually couldn't afford music instruments. It was party music and then it came west and got a beat down by a swaggering collective that called itself N.W.A. They took the genre to the dangerous side of the street (Boucher,2008). N.W.A's first album 'Straight Outta Compton' influenced a number of films depicting inner–city violence, such as "Boyz N The Hood" and "Menace II Society." N.W.A influenced an attitude change about rap music and its impact. 'Straight Outta Compton' changed what was considered extreme and explicit. N.W.A's music affected people similarly to Nirvana's "Nevermind" album that introduced grunge in 1991. Their music allowed for a certain freedom. Now rappers were free to speak their minds no matter how explicit their lyrics were. "At ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first Earth represents the things that he did wrong and the second Earth represents him changing everything that he had done wrong. The fact that his work has survived so long, 2000 years in fact, is a tribute to his mathematical genius, however very little of him is known. Three theories abound as to the true nature of this historical figure. Not all historians agree that Euclid was in fact a historical figure, some argue that the school in Alexandria took up the name Euclid to publish their works. But the more accepted theories are that Euclid was in fact a real historical figure who may have been the leader of a team of mathematicians. In Euclid's first postulate he states that it is possible to draw a straight line from any point to any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Euclid (or the school) may have not been first proved by him, (in fact much of his work may have been based upon earlier writings,) he did manage to insert assumptions and definitions of his own to strengthen the various postulates into the form we know today. The Elements begins with the five postulates and their definitions, these postulates prove or define the existence of points, lines and circles and from there on go to define other aspects of geometry based upon the simpler concepts. The Elements consists of thirteen books. Some assumptions are not totally provable, such that there is only one straight line between two points. Euclid makes some assumptions that make his form of mathematics, Euclidean Geometry, sometimes at odds with other forms. His fifth postulate, states that only one line can be made through a point parallel to a given line, eventually, sometime during the 19th century this postulate was dropped in an attempt to study non–Euclidean geometries. Euclid's assumptions about his postulates have set the groundwork for geometry today. He provided society with definitions of a circle, a point, and line, etc and for 2000 was considered "the father of geometry." His postulates proved to be a framework from which mathematics was able to grow and evolve, from two thousand years ago, till Newton and even to all our classrooms today. Bibliography 1. The Article of War of 1916 stated that "assault with the intent to commit sodomy" is a capital crime. During World War II, this article was used to discharge homosexual soldiers. Sometimes the discharged soldiers were not engaging in homosexual acts. During the time of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, the military leaders believed that homosexuality was caused by a mental illness. Thousands of recruits were sent home because the recruiter or a doctor found out that the recruit was homosexual. Thousands of people could not join the armed forces during World War II because they were homosexual. During the Vietnam War, many Americans were drafted into the military. Most of the drafted people wanted to find a way to be discharged from the military. Some people used excuses to become unfit for being in the armed forces. Mental health, sight, and sexuality were the main causes for a person drafted to be discharged. Between the Second World War and the attacks of 9/11, it is estimated that around 100 thousand soldiers were removed from the military service because of their sexual orientation. Many of these discharged servicemen and women have attempted to regain their promised benefits of being in the military. Until more recent times, these attempts for benefits had always failed. The Outsiders is a tad less tear–jerking and heartwarming, but it is about how the Greasers managed to break the stereotypes placed on them and showing that even the darkest outside can have a shining light inside them. The Greasers were often bullied, beaten up, jumped, and teased because of them being Greasers. And even though they were basically forced into being Greasers, they were still rejected by society even though some of them were still innocent. For example, Johnny got beat up probably because the Socials just didn't like him being a Greaser. "He had been hunting our football to practice a few kicks when a blue Mustang had pulled up beside the lot. There were four Socs in it. They had caught him and one of them had a lot of rings on his hand–that's what had cut Johnny up that bad."(Hinton,33) In The Misfits, however, all of the main characters are peers with the bullies. Bobby, the narrator, is bullied because he is overweight, his friend Allison because she is tall and smart, Joe because he dresses girly and is gay, and Skeezie because he dresses like a Greaser. The movie is for entertainment but also informs the audience of the rise and fall of not only the group itself but the members. The film is produced by Ice Cube, Dr Dre, and Tomica Wright, wife of Eazy E, so the portrayal of the characters is not only authentic, but personal and respectful. The themes, music, and characters make this movie relatable to minorities. Straight Outta Compton begins with Eric Wright, Eazy E, in the trap house collecting money from drugs. Before he could get the money the house gets raided by the police. Not only did the opening scene of the movie involve drugs, but drug use, and drug distribution were mentioned and displayed throughout the entire movie. The producers included this to show how prominent drugs were and still are in the black culture. Also, just like drugs, sex was mentioned in the opening scene of the movie and is displayed throughout the movie. It wasn't diverse because of strategic planning, but because people wanted to be there. In August Wilson's 'Fences' : The Actions Of Troy In Fences "The Crooked with the Straight": The Actions of Troy in Fences If someone were stuck in an ever repeating weekly cycle completing the exact same actions, would they lead themselves astray just to get away from the cycle for some time just despite the notable consequences to come from that action? In August Wilson's Fences, the protagonist, Troy does some regrettable actions. Some of his actions are crooked and hurt the people around him while others are straight and help those people. In the play, Troy's relationship with his son, Cory fades. The relationship first starts to wane when Cory and Troy are in the yard working on the ever so symbolistic Fence in the yard. Cory tells his father that a recruiter will be visiting him due to his success in both school and in football. Troy asks if he still has his job but Cory tells him that he will work on weekends. Troy becomes exceedingly angry with his son and forces him to quit the football team saying that: "The white man ain't gonna let you get nowhere with that football noway" (35). Even with the tensions high between blacks and whites in the time period, Troy is still very harsh in his words. Perhaps, this can be attributed Troy's past experience with baseball which didn't end well for him. This action by Troy is both a crooked and straight. It is crooked because it holds a bar of limitation over his son's head but it is straight because Troy is only doing it to protect his son. This event shows the reader that there can ... • 39. Analysis Of 'Some Garbage I Used To Believe About Equality' Check your privilege. If you're white, and a man, you're already a bigot. In the paper, "Some Garbage I Used To Believe About Equality" penned by Johnathan Nightingale, seemed to be a persuasive argument to get the intended audience, straight white males, to actively be less bigoted, and more understanding to other people's problems. He mainly states this through a pathos filled journey of "you think you aren't a bigot", leading on through meritocratic fallacy, and who could forget the classic, "so you don't think that was racist". He offers little logos examples but a good placeholder to that would be his arguments through common sense. Some main arguments of this essay are flawed, but the overarching message is seemingly positive, and agreeable. The author kicks off by trying to put himself on the same level of his intended audience, stating that he himself would be implementing the changes he argues for into his own life, just as we should to ours. The main message being to actively be less of an ass. The author uses inductive reasoning on his main argument, following along the lines of: You are white and a man, So you are privileged, So you are ignorant to the struggle of others, So you are a bigot. This line of reasoning is incredibly flawed and dare i say hypocritical, especially as the basis of the whole essay stemming from this assumption. The reason being the use of a generalization of an entire people to further a point about bigotry being negative. "I know. You're not a grotesque and evil bigot. You didn't vote for Trump." The purpose of this assumption is to inject pathos into the mix. He implies that even if you feel you aren't apart of his argument, you still play a role in bigotry. He goes on to justify this by offering the idea that "Being painted with an unfair, overgeneralized brush is something other folks deal with every damned day." He implies that if you feel you are being painted with a broad brush, that that is what every other group of peoples has gone through, and probably worse, so it shouldn't matter. Although I agree with the words in the quote, this is a bad argument, showing that generalizations shouldn't matter if they happen to white people, because other non white ... One of Gaudi's most impressive and beautiful buildings is Casa Batlló. Gaudí designed the building for Josep Batlló, a wealthy aristocrat, as an upmarket home. He had asked Gaudi to tear down the old one to reconstruct a new one. Gaudí managed to convince Battló to remodel the existing building instead of tearing it down, and between 1904 and 1906 he redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and completely remodeled the interior. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the use of bones, it is simply captivating! This is what Gaudi's work is about to create an impact on its viewers. I really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely different, something out of the ordinary. Another one of Gaudi's famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Updike states: "At the upper edge of his headlight beams the naked tree–twigs make the same net. Indeed the net seems thicker now" . Even the songs on the radio remind him of Brewer. His journey, and the map that represents it, begins to seem another trap: "The names melt away and he sees the map whole, a net, all those red lines and blue lines and stars, a net he is somewhere caught in". • 55. Fashion In The 1920's Fashion is a way to express yourself and your culture. It is always changing and after tragic events or other shifts in history it can change drastically. Fashion in the 1910's was all about women having the "s" figure where they would have a larger bust, a very small waist, and a larger bottom. World War I came late in the 1910's which changed fashion to what it became in the 1920's. Fashion also changed as a result of World War II, in the 1950's fashion was all about using excess because of the aftermath of WWII. Agaub fashion drastically changed in the 1960's when the new look became "straight out of London". Fashion has changed throughout time, but the greatest changes seen in fashion occurred from the 1910's to the 1920's and the 1950's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For women, the main focus was on their body shape. The unnatural "s" figures that were pushed a pulled with corsets and bustles were what women strived for in the early 1910's. Women's blouses were tight at the neck and paired with a hobble skirt. A hobble skirt is a straight line fitting skirt. They would accessorize their look with a hat adorned with flowers and feathers, gloves, and handbag. These massive hats would generally be wider than shoulder length. They were quite expensive hats and, thus, reserved for the wealthy. Women's hair was usually pinned up tight under the hat. Later in the decade, a fuller skirt replaced the hobble skirt. Instead of the length being past the ankles, the full skirt was cut just above the ankles. The tight neckline on blouses was replaced with a v–neck line. Hats started becoming flatter and less decorated transitioning to the style of the 1920's. Under these flatter hats women starting pinning their hair closer to their head with little curls with a little showing beneath their hat. Right before the end of the decade women's fashion starting gravitating towards the "boyish" look. No more corsets lead to a straighter line and the waist of all the dresses were dropped. This look carried over to the women's fashion of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Wizard Of Oz Analysis Essay Wizard of Oz Analysis Scene: This scene in the film comes just after the house has been picked up in the twister. Dorothy's house has been lifted up into the sky and suddenly dropped back down to earth in the middle of the Land of Oz. In the scene itself, Dorothy leaves her home to see that she is "Not in Kansas anymore," and finds the new and amazing world of the munchkin city in front of her. She also meets Gwendela the good witch as her journey in Oz begins. Shot 1: Wide shot. View behind Dorothy in black and white. Dorothy opens the door to the color world of Oz. Gwendela the good witch appears instantly. Straight on shot, no camera movement. Music is more haunting, eerie, and mysterious to represent the orb floating down. Shot 7: Close up. Dorothy scared, nervous, and confused by this person. Tight head shot. Straight on camera shot, no movement. Music still constant. Shot 8: Wide shot. Good witch Gwendela walks toward Dorothy to talk to her. From right to left she goes toward Dorothy. Camera is straight on, and then follows Gwendela to Dorothy, then makes a close up on the two of them for a close, but not too tight two shot. No sound heard at all other than their dialogue. Conclusion: I thought that what was most interesting about the scene was how the director introduced us the viewer to the world of Oz. This is a very important scene in the movie because it is the first time we are seeing this magical place. It is important that we as the viewer find it to be just as amazing and awe inspiring as Dorothy does when she walks into it for the first time. We are supposed to identify with Dorothy here as she walks out of her home and into Munchkin city to see this new world she has fallen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. N. W. A Film Analysis: Straight Outta Dynamite The movie I picked to do this culture analysis on was "Straight Outta Compton". I had the opportunity to watch this film a few months ago, and I completely loved it. I was not raised in the United States so, my knowledge about the group N.W.A was very little. I had always heard about them, here and there. I even recognized a few of their members like Dr. Dre and Ice Cube separately, but never imagined their history and why their impact was so big. N.W.A and their members had to go through a tough journey during their lives, as individuals as well as a group. The movie "Straight Outta Compton" showcases that. The title "Straight Outta Compton" comes from N.W.A's debut album and title track with the same name. The movie started its filming in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, it was a really good movie overall. The actors, the script and the production were really well done. They made it very real. This is an aspect that I always look for in movies. Also It enlightened me in a lot of subjects that I was not used to. I believe If you can take knowledge from something that makes it automatically worth it. I'm a music fan, so as soon as I finished watching the movie I listened to some of N.W.A's discography, which made me get more into old school hip hop. As I said in the beginning, I knew just a little about N.W.A. I knew Dr. Dre and Ice Cube were part of it, but I never knew anything about Eazy–E. Therefore, when he died in the film was a surprised for me. I was really sad but, the fact they were able to make it look so real that it get to me in an emotional level made like this film even more. It was a great movie. Furthermore, the goal of the music video is to inspire the LGBT community to be proud of who they are, promote the gay right movement not only in America but globally and to make a change toward all of humanity with speaking his belief. Macklemore's "Same love" targets teenagers, adults, any race, any gender, in efforts, to raise awareness and stop discrimination, support equality and gay marriage. To begin he starts by targeting adolescents who are suffering from feeling different from the norm of society, then proceeds through the life span of a homosexual stressing the need for expectance. The older generations are a little more old school and have a harder time accepting changes in today's society, such as, homosexuality for this reason some do not believe in equality like gay rights. The strictly religious communities follow what they were taught in the bible resulting in not believing in gay rights because God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Bob. • 63. Should Homosexuals Be A Biological Trait? The gay mind has been a rubrics cube for many scientists for the past years. The mystery that lies behind the minds of those who like the same sex is one of the most intricate debates. The big question that is yet to be answered is if homosexuals are made or born naturally. While many believe that being a homosexual is not a biological trait, others believe that being gay is a physiological defect. Even though there are many great ideas of why people think that being gay is a choice, many people like myself, take a stand and insist that being gay is biological. Many studies of the brains indicate how the brains of straight men and women are different from those of gay men and women. Studies have also shown how testosterone lacks in the brains of gay men and how there is an overload of it in gay women. Finally, studies have shown that the influences on the social lives of homosexuals don't have much of an impact of someone's sexual orientation. Homosexuals have been looked down upon since the 1800s and even further back. In the book, What's Wrong with Homosexuality? John Corvino, novelist, inscribes "[T]here were gays in ancient Greece, for example, even though the Greeks would not have thought of themselves in quite those terms. Constructionists, by contrast, hold that sexual orientation is cultural and historical: Prior to the late 19th century, when the term 'homosexuals' was coined, there were no such thing as a gay person in the usual sense. In addition, the society he found himself and the adult world that surrounded him influence his behavior. During the revival when he was waiting for Jesus' arrival, the pressure put on him by his aunty and the whole congregation led him to lie "so I decided that maybe to save further trouble, I'd better lie, too, and say that Jesus had come, and get up and be saved" (621). • 71. Equal Pay And Compensation Discrimination Essay People across the world have very different and diverse opinions about whether or not men and women are equal, and if they should she treated as such. It is baffling that people still debate whether some human beings are worth more than others, but our world is fighting against inequality. In 1963 the Equal Pay Act was passed, stating that "men and women [must] be given equal pay for equal work in the same establishment." (Facts About Equal Pay and Compensation Discrimination). This is not the only law that has been passed since that strives to promote and achieve gender equality in the workplace, but despite the efforts of these laws, in America, we still have a gender wage gap of about 80 cents, and continue to be paid less in almost every employment field (Pay Equity & Discrimination). The United States is not the only country where there is a significant wage gap. A somewhat recent study in Canada shows that Canadian citizens are also plagued by the same inequality in the workplace as American women. The study analyzes the wages of gay men, lesbians and heterosexual women compared to heterosexual men, as well as lesbians compared to heterosexual women. The study showed that the greatest gap was between heterosexual men and heterosexual women, where the women made a whopping 26.21% less than the men. Lesbians made 8.97% less than heterosexual men, but 8.22% more than heterosexual women. Gay men faced the smallest decrease is wages but still made 4.97% less than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Common Themes In Native American Myth Ancient Native American cultures have taught about the world and the creatures in it through stories and myths. They were usually short, straight to the point, and have a lesson behind them that several generations have told and retold from memory rather than having a written account. The themes encourage people to respect nature and other people despite physical and emotional differences, how to deal with emotions through life, and to explain the creation and workings of the world around them. Although the world is always changing, there are still lessons and values that can be applied to today's society. In the short Native American myth the "Coyote and Buffalo", there are a couple of examples of themes; respect nature and an explanation of the natural world. It demonstrates reverence for nature when wolf doesn't value what he already has so he kills the cow that is given to him. He is told that he shouldn't kill the cow for food, but to cut off little pieces at a time so that he will have food for longer. Because of this, Karma catches up with him; he ends up having ... Shelton once told Travis's high school principal that he was "nothing but a bother from the day he was born" (Rash 7). This statement among other things has Travis convinced that his father wants nothing to do with him. Parents are supposed to support their kids and prepare them for the harshness of the world, but this is most certainly not the case with Shelton and Travis. "An abusive father's involvement with his children is usually based on his own needs, focusing on activities that he likes instead of what the children may want to do. However, his interest in his children may come and go, depending on his emotional state" (Scott). One could say that his father only wish is for Travis to take over the family business, but it is also possible that Shelton has no desire for his son success. Travis does not lack intelligence but he never led anyone to believe otherwise. He may have been hiding his intellect from his father, feeling that showing any signs of cleverness would only annoy him. "There are situations of where the child shuts down and stays in his own world. Studies have shown a link between child abuse and delayed intellectual development. The child loses his ability to adapt to his or her environment leading to poor cognitive development. The child produces feelings of guilt, violation, loss of control and lowered self–esteem sometimes with suicidal tendencies. Common problems include emotional and behavioral problems, poor performance in school, and possible further abuse (Husted). This is evident in Travis's case; Shelton never encouraged his son to learn or was pleased with anything he ever did.
