As it was a manual transmission car, I had to account for using the clutch pedal and shifting gears,

There are several symbols in Ron Rash's novel The World Made Straight, the most important being
the bear trap and eyeglasses. What makes them so important is that they serve as major turning

Shelton. When Travis gets caught in the bear trap his life seems to be trapped in a never–ending

"The Crooked with the Straight": The Actions of Troy in Fences If someone were stuck in an ever
repeating weekly cycle completing the exact same actions, would they lead themselves astray just to
get away from the cycle for some time just despite the notable consequences to come from that
action? In August Wilson's Fences, the protagonist, Troy does some regrettable actions. Some of his
actions are crooked and hurt the people around him while others are straight and help those people.
In the play, Troy's relationship with his son, Cory fades. The relationship first starts to wane when
Cory and Troy are in the yard working on the ever so symbolistic Fence in the yard. Cory tells his
father that a recruiter will be visiting him due to his success in both school and in football. Troy asks
if he still has his job but Cory tells him that he will work on weekends. Troy becomes exceedingly
angry with his son and forces him to quit the football team saying that: "The white man ain't gonna

Check your privilege. If you're white, and a man, you're already a bigot. In the paper, "Some
Garbage I Used To Believe About Equality" penned by Johnathan Nightingale, seemed to be a
persuasive argument to get the intended audience, straight white males, to actively be less bigoted,
and more understanding to other people's problems. He mainly states this through a pathos filled
journey of "you think you aren't a bigot", leading on through meritocratic fallacy, and who could
forget the classic, "so you don't think that was racist". He offers little logos examples but a good
placeholder to that would be his arguments through common sense. Some main arguments of this
essay are flawed, but the overarching message is seemingly positive, and agreeable.
The author kicks off by trying to put himself on the same level of his intended audience, stating that
he himself would be implementing the changes he argues for into his own life, just as we should to
ours. The main message being to actively be less of an ass. The author uses inductive reasoning on
his main argument, following along the lines of: You are white and a man, So you are privileged, So
you are ignorant to the struggle of others, So you are a bigot. This line of reasoning is incredibly
flawed and dare i say hypocritical, especially as the basis of the whole essay stemming from this
assumption. The reason being the use of a generalization of an entire people to further a point about
bigotry being negative.
"I know. You're not a grotesque and evil bigot. You didn't vote for Trump." The purpose of this
assumption is to inject pathos into the mix. He implies that even if you feel you aren't apart of his
argument, you still play a role in bigotry. He goes on to justify this by offering the idea that "Being
painted with an unfair, overgeneralized brush is something other folks deal with every damned day."
He implies that if you feel you are being painted with a broad brush, that that is what every other
group of peoples has gone through, and probably worse, so it shouldn't matter. Although I agree with
the words in the quote, this is a bad argument, showing that generalizations shouldn't matter if they
happen to white people, because other non white

Legalization of Same–Sex Marriage Everyone has the right to be with the person they love. Nobody,
not even the government, should be able to take that kind of happiness and freedom away from
someone. If a girl loves another girl or a guy loves another guy, it should not matter to anyone else
as long as they are happy together. "We are all equals in the world whether we are Black, White,
Hispanic, Indian, or any other race for that matter. Why should we not be equals based on sexuality

Embarrassment can be one of the hardest pills to swallow; I know this because of firsthand
experience. As humans we go through humiliation all the way through life. I do not know a single
person who went through life without a moment of discomfiture, if someone has then they must not
live a very audacious life. My personal experience was not only utterly embarrassing but also
broadcasted on national television. I was competing in the National Little Britches Rodeo
Association Finals at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo, Colorado. I have never been one to
mull over a certain moment but incidents like this tend to stick with you. What I learned from this

This work of Gaudi I believe is a clear example of an Artist's vision. Gaudi incorporated his
creativeness into a building produced a concrete example of his vision. To me it feels like this
building you might see in Disneyland, but here it is on a normal street of Barcelona erected amongst

The movie I picked to do this culture analysis on was "Straight Outta Compton". I had the
opportunity to watch this film a few months ago, and I completely loved it. I was not raised in the

People across the world have very different and diverse opinions about whether or not men and
women are equal, and if they should she treated as such. It is baffling that people still debate
whether some human beings are worth more than others, but our world is fighting against inequality.
In 1963 the Equal Pay Act was passed, stating that "men and women [must] be given equal pay for

This is not the only law that has been passed since that strives to promote and achieve gender
equality in the workplace, but despite the efforts of these laws, in America, we still have a gender

wage gap. A somewhat recent study in Canada shows that Canadian citizens are also plagued by the

Common Themes In Native American Myth
Ancient Native American cultures have taught about the world and the creatures in it through stories
and myths. They were usually short, straight to the point, and have a lesson behind them that several
generations have told and retold from memory rather than having a written account. The themes
encourage people to respect nature and other people despite physical and emotional differences, how
to deal with emotions through life, and to explain the creation and workings of the world around
them. Although the world is always changing, there are still lessons and values that can be applied to
today's society. In the short Native American myth the "Coyote and Buffalo", there are a couple of
examples of themes; respect nature and an explanation of the natural world. It demonstrates
reverence for nature when wolf doesn't value what he already has so he kills the cow that is given to
him. He is told that he shouldn't kill the cow for food, but to cut off little pieces at a time so that he

came out of the good twin and the evil twin's competition were both good and bad, this helped make
the world balanced. The straight twin made creatures like deer, squirrels, and fruits; while the
crooked twin made mountain lions, poisonous plants, and other things that killed the things that the

In today's society, Reality Television plays an important position in people's everyday lives. The
reality television programs of today are popular because of the variety of film conventions (eg.
audio, visual and symbolic codes) and the values and attitudes used to construct the viewer?s
response. Two good examples of reality television programs are The Apprentice and Queer Eye for
the Straight Guy.
In the episode of The Apprentice, 'The Price is Height', wealth is promoted through the values and
attitudes of today's society to construct the viewer's response. This program promotes that wealth is

Wealth can be compared in values and attitudes between the two reality television programs of The
Apprentice and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. The similarities of wealth between the two
programs are that both episodes were produced in New York City, USA, where most success is
made and both promote how wealth is gained though success. The differences of wealth between the
two programs are that The Apprentice promotes that wealth is gained through long–term hard work;
whereas Queer Eye promotes that a person can succeed at what they are good at.
In an episode of The Apprentice, ?The Price is Height?, audio codes are used to influence the
viewer?s response. The audio codes featured in the episode, are used to make the viewer interested.
An example of audio codes being used in the episode are the theme song called, ?For the Love of
Money?, where the song is played, to remind the viewer that to enhance their lifesyles, money is
needed. Audio codes have been also used to create an atmosphere or mood in various sequences of
the episode, such as when a female and a male contestant is left alone in a room, sweet, romantic
music is played. Audio codes have also been used on certain people, such as Donald Trump, where
strong, sudden and powerful music is played to make him appear more superior to everyone else in
the Boardroom.

Shelton vs. Travis Travis and his father have never seen eye to eye. Shelton once told Travis's high
school principal that he was "nothing but a bother from the day he was born" (Rash 7). This
statement among other things has Travis convinced that his father wants nothing to do with him.
Parents are supposed to support their kids and prepare them for the harshness of the world, but this
is most certainly not the case with Shelton and Travis. Shelton makes his son feel worthless and
unnecessary everyday of his life. Is this cruelty a form of affection or a direct admission of hatred?

"An abusive father's involvement with his children is usually based on his own needs, focusing on
activities that he likes instead of what the children may want to do. However, his interest in his
children may come and go, depending on his emotional state" (Scott). One could say that his father
only wish is for Travis to take over the family business, but it is also possible that Shelton has no
desire for his son success. Travis does not lack intelligence but he never led anyone to believe
otherwise. He may have been hiding his intellect from his father, feeling that showing any signs of
cleverness would only annoy him.
"There are situations of where the child shuts down and stays in his own world. Studies have shown
a link between child abuse and delayed intellectual development. The child loses his ability to adapt
to his or her environment leading to poor cognitive development. The child produces feelings of
guilt, violation, loss of control and lowered self–esteem sometimes with suicidal tendencies.
Common problems include emotional and behavioral problems, poor performance in school, and

This is evident in Travis's case; Shelton never encouraged his son to learn or was pleased with
