In 1937, the Chinese city of Nanking was devastated when the Japanese Imperial Army invaded,
killing around 300,000 people . The Japanese soldiers went into people's homes searching for
Chinese soldiers, and killing civilians. These devastating events are known as the "Rape of
Nanking", or as the Nanking Massacre. However, the history of atrocities like this are not always
taught. Things such as the Japanese history textbook controversy show how one event can be
remembered, or portrayed, in many different ways. For the most part, history can be skewed for
political reasons. For Japan, making history their own had benefits, and these benefits could help the
government keep their people on their side of things, and it would try to legitimize their own views
on their history.
The forming of loyalty and patriotism through selective teachings of the Nanking Massacre has built
tensions between China and Japan that have, and still do, separate two nations.
The history, which is taught correctly in most nations, is horrifying. The Nanking Massacre lasted
for a span of a few months, with Japanese soldiers sparing no man, woman or child. The title "Rape
of Nanking" is to describe the raping of women, numbering anywhere from 20,000 to 80,000 . Some
of the Chinese captives, some of which were Chinese soldiers, were forced to dig graves for groups
of other captives to be buried alive in, and then would be buried themselves when the next group of

As a poet Basho's phenomenal word choice and description allowed us readers to view his journey
as if we are there with him. It is amazing to see that Basho is such a religious person who has visited

economy. However, the tranquility of the populous city would soon collapse. In 1937, the Japanese

they are difficult to understand through natural reasoning, they are seen as mystical.

We began to take a seat as close to the rear as possible, when Mary Katherine pointed out that we

For more than a century, China and Japan have had conflict after conflict, from the first Sino–
Japanese war between the Qing Empire and the Empire of Japan then the second Sino–Japanese war
nearly 50 years later. The conflict between these two countries stems from fights over territory to
constant scrutinization between the two because of cultural differences and what I believe has begun
to exhibit signs of cultural incompetence.
The First Sino– Japanese war allowed Japan to emerge as a major world power while revealing the
weakness of the Chinese empire. Both China and Japan wanted to rule supreme over Korea. Korea
was already one of China 's most significant clients. Japan started to notice Korea for its geographic
positioning and its natural resources (coal and iron). After Japan implemented Western technology,
Korea was forced to expose itself to trade with Japan and proclaim independence from China.
Japanese reformers attempted to overthrow the Korean government in 1884. Chinese troops rescued
the king killing several Japanese guards in the process. War was evaded between the two countries

A dispute over islands in the East China Sea has inflamed relations between Japan and China for the
last two years – but they were tense even before. So I think in order to have a better understanding
of why Sino–Japanese relation is that much tense all the time, we need to know the background that
is history of two countries. I will start from the second Sino–Japanese War because it was the largest
Asian War and the most devastating War for the Republic of China. The Nanking Massacre, also
known as the rape of Nanking, was a mass murder and mass rape committed by Japanese troops
against Nanking during the Second Sino–Japanese War, which also happened during the World War
Two. The massacre started from December 13, 1937 and it lasted six weeks. During this period, tens

This paper will analyze Shriners Hospital for children, a non–profit hospital system owned by
Shriners International, through the theoretical lens of Bolman and Deals Leadership Frameworks
(1997). This paper will define structural and symbolic aspects of the organization, analyze strengths,

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a non–profit hospital system that maintains 22 hospitals for
children in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 18 of the hospitals provide orthopedic

Culture shock stereotypes I feel that coming to Japan helped break a lot of assumptions about
Japanese culture and also confirm knowledge I knew only from textbooks. The trip also made me
experience some culture shock but if anything it made the trip more interesting. I appreciated the
irony that was ever present. There were many customs both old and new I appreciated on the trip
and helped open my eyes to new experiences, observations, and interactions with people I normally
would never have a chance to meet. The Japanese people truly took elements of western culture and
made it their own.
One of my most memorable experiences was on the second night of Japan when we went to a
baseball game and the customs there are crazy Both teams were really into the game even when
