Aids
AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is a disease caused by a virus called HIV (Human
Immunodeficiency Virus). The illness alters the immune system, making people much more vulnerable to infections and diseases. This susceptibility
worsens as the disease progresses.
HIV is found in the body fluids of an infected person (semen and vaginal fluids, blood and breast milk). The virus is passed from one person to
another through blood–to–blood and sexual contact. In addition, infected pregnant women can pass HIV to their babies during pregnancy, delivering
the baby during childbirth, and through breast feeding.
HIV can be transmitted in many ways, such as vaginal, oral sex, anal sex, blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following information will help you protect yourself against HIV and AIDS.
AIDS Information
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes AIDS, which is the term used to describe the later, potentially more serious, stages of HIV infection.
HIV damages the immune system and destroys the body 's CD4 T lymphocytes (T cells), one of many types of white blood cells the body uses to
fight disease. T cells help the immune system "identify" foreign organisms that should be attacked. Thus, when the T cells are destroyed, it 's like
being defended by a leaderless army that is easily defeated.
A person can be infected with HIV for ten years or even longer without showing any symptoms. However, in most cases, during that time the virus is
attacking the immune system and destroying T cells.
By the time HIV damages enough cells to bring on full–blown AIDS, many of the typical symptoms can be present: weight loss, sporadic fevers,
fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, diarrhea, and opportunistic infections such as certain types of pneumonia. Rare cancers and infections of the kidneys,
digestive system, and brain can also develop.
HIV is passed from person to person by direct contact with blood or other body fluids through activities like unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sexual
contact with an infected person or through sharing syringes or needles

Global Fund Project Assignment #7
Country: Uganda
Disease: HIV/AIDS
1.)Provide a brief introduction to your overall plan and strategy for this proposal.
Uganda used to be one of the most prevalent cases of HIV with around 18.5% being infected in 1992 to its lowest rate of 6.4% in 2005 . Even though
the HIV rate is increasing at certain rates amongst adults Uganda has done a good job of keeping the HIV prevalence at a generalized rate. This stems
from Uganda recovering from numerous political strife and a civil war which left many orphaned and dead. Now that Uganda is regaining its political
stability, it has turned its attention to the HIV problem in the country with the president of Uganda creating a commitment program designed to combat
HIV, noting its deadliness. Through government and international organizations efforts, the prevalence of HIV total has only lead up to 7.4% of the
total population. This results in around 1.4 million Ugandan's infected with HIV/AIDs with around 190,000 children being infected as well . But
although most Ugandan's have equal access to HIV testing and counselling there are a certain most–at–risk population group that has a high prevalence
of HIV. They are the sex industry and homosexuals. Through the resources of the Global Fund, this proposal aims to answer that question of why
HIV is so prevalent amongst sex workers and homosexuals by looking at the recent spread of the HIV/AIDs virus and to go further and

Throughout the history of South Africa, problems regarding the overall well–being of the country have arisen. One current issue South Africa is
currently facing is HIV/AIDS. The disease has been plaguing South Africa as well as other countries throughout the continent. The initialism HIV
stands for human immunodeficiency virus. This disease attacks and destroys the infection–fighting CD4 cells of the immune system. Loss of these
cells makes it difficult for the body to fight infections. Without treatment,HIV can gradually destroy the immune system and advance to AIDS. Human
immunodeficiency virus is a multistage disease and AIDS is the most advanced stage. AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
According to the World Health Report, South Africa's health system is ranked 175th in the world, making it one of the lowest in the world. With such a
low–quality health system, the disease is easily spreading throughout South Africa quickly. The epidemic has detrimentally affected South Africa's
economy causing low productivity and a reduced labor supply. This, combined with the need for enhanced medical imports and a reduced exportation
rate, is causing economic instability for the South African government. With all the negative effects of HIV/AIDS in South Africa, creating a better
health system and ensuring healthy citizens must be a priority. In order to achieve healthy and productive citizens, the government must focus on more

REACTION PAPER
"HIV / AIDS"
I. Title: HIV / AIDS Date: December 10, 2011 Name of speaker: Darius Umande
II. Overview of the topic
As I have learned from my past lessons in high school and elementary, HIV which stands for human immunodeficiency virus is a kind of virus,
specifically lentivirus, that causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome better known as AIDS. As what our high school teacher taught us, HIV can
be transmitted commonly from person to person by having an unsafe sexual intercourse with an infected person whether anal, oral or vaginal sex,
through blood transfusions from the contaminated needles, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course I don't like to be someone who has this kind of virus, syndrome or infection. And maybe I won't be able to apply into a good job if I have
AIDS, or maybe I could not, at all. I was really disappointed about the cases of people having HIV. The percentage of people here in our country is
already overwhelming and it might get higher after some time if we won't take action about it. The best thing to do is to be a lot more careful, to be
twice more aware, and to control ourselves from having unsafe sex. People should get rid of temptation and people should think wisely. Additionally,
people should always get a regular check – up to test whether they already possess AIDS, then if yes, it should be treated immediately. If no, better.
IV. Lessons Learned
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome developed from Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV) is a disease of the human immune system. ADIS
is the serious final stage f HIV. It carries nonspecific symptoms. HIV is a slow virus that thrives on living human cell, attacks the immune system by
making his/her body susceptible to infections such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. HIV can be transmitted into many ways such as vaginal, oral or anal
sex, blood transfusions, contaminated needles or indirect contact through solid particles, exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy,
childbirth, and breastfeeding.

The Epidemic Of Aids And Aids
AIDS
AIDS, also known as (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is definitely one of the most deadliest disease that has hit the Earth in all of human
existence. With all the medicine that can help a person with this disease they still haven't cured it. The ways that the AIDS cells can reproduce different
kinds of AIDS cells, and plus the ways that a person can get the disease. These reasons are why AIDS are so far incurable for humanity.
AIDS is a medical condition that a person has when their immune system is too weak to fight off infections. AIDS is a updated or worst form of HIV
that aggressively attacks the immune system. A person with AIDS can have 200 white cells or lower. The virus AIDS is known to attack and kill
the white blood cells so that they can't fight off the infections in your body. The AIDS cells make their way inside of the cells in your body then
start to reproduce and kill that cell. No cell that the AIDS cells reproduce are the same. That is why there is no cure for the AIDS or HIV virus, also
known as (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The only thing that the doctors can do is slow down the reproduction process. AIDS was first found in
Africa and Africa has an outstanding amount of AIDS victims. Scientist believe that AIDS came from monkeys. Monkeys have cells of AIDS in their
blood, and since the people in Africa eat the monkeys the AIDS cells gets into their bloodstream and starts to attack. Really no one knows the real
reason that people have AIDS but

AIDS In America
AIDS in America
AIDS is a Sexual Transmitted Disease that has been going around for 30 years. AIDS can be transmitted to anyone, even through birth. AIDS has
killed over 600,000 men and women. Also AIDS has even killed children. Most cases of AIDS in America there are many people battling withAIDS.
People without AIDS are scared to be around someone with AIDS because they think it is contagious by contact and do not want to be near someone
with AIDS. Most people in America are not aware of people with AIDS. There are a lot of people in America with AIDS that most people do not
know of. "Since then, more than half of a million Americans have died of AIDS, and 1.1 million people are currently living with HIV in the United ...

It can be transmitted through blood and or unprotected sex. "They are being infected through unprotected sexual intercourse, drug use and babies
being born with AIDS because the mother is infected" (Horton). AIDS can cause death and AIDS lowers your immune system until the point to
where your body cannot push itself anymore. AIDS is a deadly disease, and since there is not a cure for AIDS many people have died from it.
There are currently millions of people living with AIDS. But sadly also more than half of a million of them has died from AIDS. Most people are
afraid to do checkups because they afraid to come out positive. If you have had unprotected sex before and you have the following symptoms: Swollen
lymph nodes (lymph glands), Diarrhea, Fever, Cough, and unintended weight loss you may need to seek medical attention immediately. You are not
vulnerable to AIDS unless you tend to keep doing things that may have you catch it. Also AIDS can be transmitted through breastfeeding. Such things
as saliva and tears do not transmit the disease to others. There is a thing called antiretroviral treatment which slows down the process of AIDS for
whoever may have it. Doctors say the antiretroviral treatment reduces the risk of death but also is genuinely expensive and has side effects to it.
Another thing that the doctors say is that you can live from up to 6 months all the way to 11 years without any treatment. Even though

Hiv And Aids : A Victim Of Hiv / Aids
Benoite is a victim of HIV/AIDS disease who experienced first hand, with her partner, the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS. She grew deathly sick,
worrying about her own health and the health of her babies that she might have infected. Benoite realized that by her impulsive actions, she put the
lives of her children and husband in danger, because she didn't know just how common HIV was. Most people are aware of the disease known as
Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, also known as HIV andAIDS. It is caused by a very deadly parasite that
can destroy someone's life and the lives of their families, so everyone needs to be cautious and be aware of the causes in order to protect themselves.

If an infected person uses a needle to take drugs and that same needle gets used by another person, that person becomes at risk of catching HIV
too. On average, one in ten new HIV infections is caused by the sharing of needles. It is estimated that there are 12 million people who inject drugs
worldwide, and around 1.6 million (one in seven) are thought to be living with HIV ('People Who Inject Drugs, HIV and AIDS' on December 16,
2016). The last possible cause of HIV/AIDS is during pregnancy or delivery or through breast–feeding. If the mother has HIV or AIDS and is pregnant,
it puts the baby at risk of catching the disease too. There is a 15–45% chance of passing HIV to their baby if the mother doesn't take HIV treatment. So
if one is a parent, it is very important to check their health for their own safety and their children 's too.
There are some signs that can indicate that the HIV virus is developing in the body, (according to www.aids.gov on 12/31/2015). The early
symptoms of HIV could be fever, muscle aches, sore throat, fatigue, swollen mouth sores and inconsistent variation of temperatures like chills or night
sweats. However as HIV progresses into AIDS the symptoms could get worse such as rapid weight loss, recurring fever, extreme tiredness and
swelling, diarrhea that lasts for more than a week, pneumonia (lung inflammation caused by bacterial or viral infection), loss of memory, depression, or
other neurologic disorders. Many people

AIDS Symptomatology
Once a person is infected with HIV virus and at a later time, will most likely develops AIDS symptomatology. AIDS is a immune system disease
caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). which over a period of years weakens the capacity of the immune system to fight off infection
so that weight loss and weakness set in and other affections such as cancer or pneumonia may has an infected person's demise. Most people believe the
virus is commonly spread through sexual contact and intravenous drug use. But what other behaviors are and are not.....risk factors?
People believe that the only way to get AIDS or HIV, it is only an issue for people who are promiscuous, the poor, minorities and gay people.
Continually to make common mistakes that have the potential to lead them to a rude awakening about who can get the diseases. Most common way
people could get it is by having anal or vaginal sex, or doing injection drugs with someone who is infected and sharing equipment I high risk.

Its spread through the sharing of bodily fluids and or contaminated medical equipment. Anyone can get AIDS /HIV ,but we can take steps to protect
ourselves from getting the infection. A best way to start, is by getting tested and know your partners AIDS/HIV states. Talk to your partner about the
disease testing and tested before you have sex. Using condom is a one of the good way to prevent the new couple from the disease. Use a condom
correctly every time you have viginal, anal, or oral sex.
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused by a virus, which can not be cured but treated temporally. This virus has the capacity of the

AIDS And AIDS In South Africa
In South Africa, AIDS is one of the top causes of death. South Africa has the biggest AIDS/HIV epidemic in the world because of violence against
women, poverty, and lack of education. Given this, "Africans account for nearly 70% of those who live with HIV and are dying of AIDS"
(Morgenstern, Dr. Michael).
For centuries, "AIDS has been spread through sexual contact and direct contact with bodily fluids such as blood, semean, and breast milk" (Disease
background). Also, is spread through perinatal transmission which is when an AIDS–infected mother gives birth and passes the virus on to her child.
The virus develops rapidly in the first few months affecting the immune system and preventing the body from fighting infections. The sex trade began
to grow around the same time AIDS started to spread. Many say that, "most of the first AIDS cases were recorded in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic
of the Congo in 1920, and by 1980 the disease was spreading in different parts of Africa" (Origin of HIV and AIDS).
While both women and men are affected by AIDS, younger women have a higher risk of getting infected "rates of new infections among women aged
15–24 were more than four times greater than that of men the same age" (HIV and AIDS). Statistics show there is a high efficiency of AIDS
transmission from men to women because of early sexual activity and rape and violence against women. These intergenerational relationships happen
because the men shower his partners with gifts, money and

Introduction Originally Ghana was a country that had strong Republican views upon obtaining independence in 1950's but it was followed by years of
instability due to tension between ethnic groups that only grew due to military power and the government's inability to prevent a declining economy
(Chazan). These events of the early history of the country lead to coups where the country eventually reformed its political views into a more
democratic one towards the 1990's, which is the beginning of the country's higher level of commitment towards health care with ideals that follow the

Most of the hospitals are located in large urban areas in the country so it's densely packed in the Central and Greater Accra regions (Oliver's Google
Map, 2015). This means that there are very little hospitals in rural areas which is where we need them most, because that's the area where people
have little access to them due to transportation issues and how far away it is from them. Money from the Global Fund spent in transportation will be
used to help build new roads and public transportation services in more rural areas to increase the accessibility to health services. These actions can be
helped reached by coordinating and working together with the CHPS (Community–based health planning services) who's already working on
transportation barriers in the country (Nyonator). They can help disperse and allocate funds to areas in most need of them ranked by prevalence
of HIV in the region and number of hospitals. The education barrier trend follows a similar pattern as the lack of accessibility to health in rural
areas (Oliver's Google Map, 2015). Schools are mostly located in urban areas in the same regions where most hospitals are located (Central and Greater
Accra). Money spent on this issue of lack of primary schools and colleges in rural areas will help build more schools and colleges where people
especially women can be educated. Money will also be spent on implementing HIV education in

HIV/AIDS What is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)? AIDS is the disease that an individual with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency
Virus) has a chance of getting when their immune system becomes so damaged, opening up the body to many different illnesses. According to medical
research not everyone who has HIV will in fact be advance to the final stage of the disease, especially when caught and treated early on. For someone
to be diagnosed with AIDS typically they would have contracted an infection or cancer from their immune system being too weak to fight the infection
away, and in most cases their CD4 cells (T–cells) count would be under 200, the normal amount being between 500 and 1,600. A lot of people may
wonder where did the HIV disease initially come from, and how did it spread? The answer is simply from chimpanzees in Central Africa, their
version being called Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV). When humans needed to hunt these animals for food as far back as the 1800's, it is
believed that is when they contracted the virus and it transformed into the human version known as HIV, slowly working its way from Africa to the
United States in the 1970's (AIDS.gov, 2015). Once a person contracts HIV it starts to attack the CD4 positive lymphocytes which are part of our
immune system that helps to fight off infection. The virus being so strong it has the power to turn healthy cells into unhealthy ones, eventually taking
over the body's defense against illnesses. HIV has

HIV/AIDS at the end of 2013, and remarkably more than 23 million people in sub Saharan Africa experience the most severe HIV/AIDS epidemics.
Despite the fact there are still a large population of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world, a lots of human efforts have been putting on the

Hiv And Aids : Aids
INTRODUCTION
Hello, today we are discussing HIV and AIDS. This disease is known as a severe decline in one's immune system resulting in a decreased ability to
resist infection and malignancy. A lot of people ask what the difference between HIV and AIDS is. HIV is the virus that causes the diseaseAIDS. With
this being said, I will now discuss some objectives that that will be covered throughout this lecture that I hope will help guide you as well as help you
have a better understanding of the progression of this disease (Welcome to AIDS.gov, 2009).
OBJECTIVES
These objectives include: Be able to know the difference between HIV and AIDS, become knowledgeable about where and how HIV first started, be
able to identify the five different theories that were possibilities to HIV transmission, know how it is transmitted, know what categories of people at
risk, be able to identify the different discriminations and stigmas related to HIV/AIDS, be able to briefly identify the past and present treatments that
are/were used and why others are unable to receive treatment, and overall just to have a general idea of the timeline of HIV/AIDS.
HIV OR HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS
We are going to start by discussing some background information on HIV. Most of us already know that HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency
Virus. HIV is a lentivirus which is a subcategory of retroviruses. The term lentivirus basically means that symptoms at onset are delayed and do not
show up until later. Not

AIDS Prevention and Testing
"More than 1.2 million americans are living with HIV, including 156,300 who don't realize it" (Kaplan). The HIV/AIDS epidemic hit a peak in the
2000's. These diseases attack the immune system making them incapable of fighting off diseases. Specifically,HIV,human immunodeficiency virus,
attacks the immune system, weakening it, and slowly making it produce more HIV–cells. AIDS,acquired immune deficiency syndrome, then takes
over and the immune system is so weak that it no longer has the ability to fight the infectious cells. These diseases have no cure and can only be
slowed by treatment. HIV/AIDS spreads by bodily fluids such as sexual activities, sharing needles, and accidents that include blood. Testing and
prevention of HIV/AIDS should have more emphasis than treatment because it would allow people to be more cautious, treatment still allows HIV
/AIDS to spread, and it would stop the contraction of diseases.
Caution and knowledge when dealing with HIV/AIDS is ideal to combating the epidemic. As on average, "1 in 6 people with HIV don't know they
have it" (Greiger). HIV and AIDS are hidden killers to begin with, so regular testing is the only way to catch the disease in its early stages before a
person is unaware and continues to spread the infection. Many people live years without knowing they have this disease due to the disease not showing
symptoms in its early phases. "More than

Aids : A Modern Interpretation Of The Aids
Although many people see this book as a great modern interpretation of the AIDS evolution, I found it difficult to be fully engaged with the immense
amount of scientific information and terms. Despite the fact I do not have a positive opinion of the book, Pepin's extensive knowledge and research is
evident and bolsters his claims and his epidemiology. Pepin beings the book with the origins of AIDS, debunking the popular claims which spread
throughout the United States. Secondly, Pepin introduces the way the AIDS epidemic spread and then completely devastated the Central African
population. Afterwards, Pepin reveals how AIDS spread, thus contradicting the knowledge the general population of America has known since the
1980's. After reading all of this, I felt increasingly more annoyed with how the entire AIDS epidemic has been handled. The information on how the
spread of AIDS truly occurred is not widely diffused throughout America, so the notion of it being predominantly gay related is still well–known.
Jacques Pepin does an astounding job with disclosing the information of the AIDS epidemic, but the information remained difficult to read due to the
dry and immense amount of scientific verbiage. Diving into the first section of the book, Pepin introduces geographic areas of Africa which stand as the
places where the AIDS epidemic sprouted. Central Africa and the countries within this generalized zone dealt with a lot of rapid industrialization and
urbanization in a short

The Negative Impacts Of AIDS And AIDS In Bangladesh
Due to their nature of work, they can easily get sexually transmitted diseases, such as Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and Chancroid. In addition, HIV is the most
dangerous illness that they can get. Although the number of people who have the diseases is small, "it is estimated that without any intervention the
prevalence in the general adult population could be as high as 2% in 2012 and 8% by 2025" (HIV and AIDS in Bangladesh 2009). According to the
recent Children and AIDS, Third Stocktaking Report 2008 published by four UN agencies, only 16% of girls aged between 15 and 24 had a
comprehensive knowledge of HIV in Bangladesh and 60% of males had never used a condom. Thus, for the women working in the profession, not only
the name "prostitute" but also the illness will follow them the rest of their lives.
The negative impact of prostitution is also on the children of prostitutes. In this Islam country, there is the existence of early marriage, which leads to
males having sexual intercourse with the girls under 18 years old. That is the reason why the demand for child sex workers from 13 to 18 years old
exists. Approximately 300 children live in a brothel and they have witnessed sex working environments such as sexual abuse, drugs, and violence.
They go to schools and other children are not willing to sit next to them. They are bullied by their classmates because of their mother's profession.
Moreover, they live in the brothel and witness the work that their mothers do, which affects

AIDS in Bahamians, ages 15–44
A major cause of death of Bahamians in the age group 15 to 44 is AIDS. This is a result of unprotected sex, ignorance and the reluctancy to get tested

will happen. When and if there is a slight belief that one is infected with AIDS, Bahamians tend to hesitate to get tested or treated because of
appearances. However, "as research, investment and commitment into understanding HIV and AIDS increased, so the outcome of people living with

Moreover, 93% of females can transmit the AIDS virus to males during unprotected sex. Furthermore, 94% of the combined sample recognized that
the AIDS virus can be transmitted through heterosexual relations. In addition, Rodgers and Rolle state that only 32% of the sexually active
combined sample ensured that they always used condoms during sex. This means that 68% of the sexually active adolescents in this survey are
conducting in unprotected sex which can very well, lead to AIDS. It is evident that in this age group, these is reckless and irresponsible engagement
in sexual activity which has led to the dangerous AIDS epidemic. After interviewing Ms. Sandra Smith, age 21, it was found that she was a prime
example of a young Bahamian engaging in reckless unprotected sex adding to the AIDS epidemic. Ms. Smith said, "I was 20 when I found out I had
AIDS. I have about six serious partners before I got tested. I had sex with them all without using protection". When Ms. Smith was asked why she did
not use a condom she responded by saying, "I really do not know why I did not use a condom. I guess it was all in the heat of the moment. It was all
fun, at the time"! Ms. Smith ended the interview by saying that, "I regret doing what I did, my stupid actions, not using protection. It is the reason
that I have AIDS. I am not proud of my actions but it is the truth. I have AIDS and I will probably live a short life because I had unprotected sex".

Hiv / Aids : Hiv And Aids
HIV/AIDS is a virus that has been going around for many years. Most people do not really know what HIV stands for. HIV is a Human
Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV attacks the part of your body that fights disease better known as the immune system. The virus makes the
immune system shut down and stop working. The immune system shutting down is the worst part about HIV not having any signs or symptoms to
notify you of the virus is the worst part. Most people that have HIV looks health and only knew that had the virus by taking blood tests. There is
however some ways a person cannot get HIVAIDS. A person and not transfer AID/HIV by hugging, kissing, talking to or touching a person with HIV.
A person cannot get the virus by sharing foods, drinks using a public restroom, swimming together. Some of the ways to reduce HIV andAIDS is by
Limiting the number of sexual partners, getting tested and knowing your partner's HIV status.
Limiting the number of sexual partners can reduce HIVAIDS. It is important to have sex with just one person. "The more sexual partners you have
in your lifetime, the more likely you are to have a sex partner who has HIV or sexually transmitted disease (STD)" so recommended for people to
slow down on their sexual partners. The fewer partners a person have the less chance they have of getting the virus. Not having sex is the best way to
prevent getting or transmitting HIV. Condoms work really well in stopping most HIV/AIDS from being passed from an infected

Just about two decades ago, HIV/AIDS pandemic was the only thing that is mentioned in social media (Gus "Introduction to HIV/AIDS"). Proved to
be originally from Sub Saharan Africa (S.S Africa) region, HIV/AIDS has spread throughout not only the S.S. Africa, but it eventually becomes the
global disaster in the late 20th century (Gus). HIV/AIDS has gained attention from the media when the death many patients by the new emerging
disease is reported in Europe and US (Satpathy 27). However, these cases directly refer to S.S. Africa because infected patients either are originally
from or have travelled around this region (Satpathy 28). In addition, out of 1000 blood samples result taken in Kinshasa in 1970s, scientists have
found HIV positive among these blood sample (Satpathy 28). This means that HIV/AIDS have been circulating around this region for at least 10 to
12 years since HIV is an asymptomatic disease (Satpathy 41). However, the HIV/AIDS only becomes an epidemic in S.S. Africa around the late 20th
century, shown in statistics that are taken from UNAIDS: Progress Report 1996–1997. Many people blame the poverty in S.S.Africa as the cause for
letting this deadly disease out of control. Others criticize the African government for avoiding the responsibility of suppressing this epidemic. Certainly,
in order to prevent a further pandemic, we need to study the actual explanation of this epidemic. This arises the question: Why did HIV/AIDS become

analyzing cultures and their backgrounds, cultures may vary in what is acceptable in one culture may not be acceptable in another, depending on the
culture itself. The belief system in marriages are said to be different between sub Saharan Africa and western societies. When a women marries often
at a young age, her husband will take control of the relationship both physical and social, thus this patriarchal view highlights the difficulty for women
living in this region to practice safe sex through the use of protection. According to the regional statistics published by UNAIDS, it was reported that
in 2013, "there were 24.7 million people in sub Saharan Africa who were living with HIV/AIDS". This statistic cannot be overlooked because of the
24.7 million people infected with this disease in this region, women actually accounted for "58% of the total number of people living with human
immunodeficiency virus" (UNAIDS.org, 2014). Furthermore, of the 24.7 million individuals infected with HIV/AIDS the provision of

Women with drug addictions has conclusively linked with HIV/ AIDS since this epidemic has started. HIV is the acronym for human
immunodeficiency virus and it causes the immune system to become weak. As a result, this causes the body to be terrible at protecting itself against
diseases and other viruses. HIV causes damage by harming the immune cells in the body. The immune cells it affects are called CD4 positive (CD4+)
T cells, which are vital for fighting infections in the body. HIV metamorphose the CD4+T cells into little factories that cause the production of more of
the virus to destroy other healthy cells, which eventually destroys the CD4+ T cells. When a person has less than 200 in cell count, the patient
diagnosed with the disease AIDS. HIV/AIDS and its link to drugs is involved when risky behaviors are involved when transmitting or contracting the
deadly disease. Since AIDS is not cure–able, prevention of transmission can be avoided is very important to understand in sexual education. Some
treatments and therapies are given to drug abusers, which aid these goals of sexual education. The immune system weakens when the T cells are lost
and as a result, a person becomes more subject to infections and common illnesses, to help slow this process down, special medicine is distributed to
the person infected with the virus. Some medicines and remedies are given to HIV patients to help lower the risk of transmission and advancement of
the disease. In addition, it helps

AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection in which the body's immune system is severely weakened. Left untreated, HIV transforms into AIDS and often
will be what kills an individual. The HIV/AIDS crisis greatly impacted the homosexual community and drug abusers more so than any other population.
Although the disease appeared in 1981 during the first year of Ronald Reagan's presidency, he did not fully address the crisis until almost the end of
his second term in 1987. The only previous mention of the disease was on September 17, 1985, where he said AIDS was a "top priority" (qtd. in Burki).
Despite this, come 1986, Reagan proposed "an 11 percent reduction in AIDS spending" (Burki). The AIDS crisis required faster and further intervention
from the United States government. Due to President Ronald Reagan's silence and inaction, thousands of Americans (and people around the globe)
became infected with AIDS and died from it. The United States' government's reactions to the AIDS crisis were delayed and insufficient, leading to
more deaths, more pain, and more stigmatization of the gay community.
Funding AIDS research was a debate for many years, and President Ronald Reagan defended his administration's choice to fund research while also
taking controversial actions that seemed to deter the fight against AIDS. Although the United States' government allocated $70 million to the
researching process of the emerging crisis in 1985, The National Academy of Sciences said the United

Introduction
The African continent represents 12% of the worlds population, but Sub–Saharan Africa disproportionately represents nearly 70% of the worlds HIV
cases (1). Within that, it has been estimated that there are 6.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa, which is the highest number from
any country in the world (2), and represents 17% of the global burden of HIV infection (3).
HAART has been the mainstay of treatment for HIV in industrialised countries since the 1990's (4). Since its widespread introduction, it has changed
the course of the epidemic dramatically and improved survival and quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS (5). HAART consists of three
different antiretroviral drugs, given in combination.
In 2013 the World Health Organisation (WHO) released its updated guidelines for the use of HAART in HIV/AIDS (Appendix 1), providing
recommendations for policy and decision makers for more widespread use of HAART (6). These guidelines also raised the recommended threshold
for initiation of HAART from CD4<350cells/mm3 to CD4<500cells/mm3 in asymptomatic patients (6), with a note that priority for starting treatment
still remained with individuals with lower CD4 counts (<350cells/mm3). Despite this continuing expansion of HAART eligibility, uptake remains low
in many places, with only 54% of those eligible for HAART with a CD4<350cells/mm3 receiving it worldwide (7).

It is hard to think of a place that HIV and AIDS is more drastic in Africa than in the Sub–Saharan part of Africa. Whereas, you hear that HIV AND
AIDS is common in low and middle income countries and Sub–Saharan Africa in one of them. Uganda and South Africa is recognized for having the
largest population of people living with HIV and AIDS. Most project, conference or debaters have visualized that the reasons for the widespread of
HIV and AIDS is sexual transmission and infection. Most people do not realize that the increase in the widespread of HIV and AIDS in the Sub–Saharan
Africa is lack of awareness, lean on cultural and religious belief, dissension of scientific community, and deprivation of political responsibility.
Making a perception of a disease reduces the widespread of the disease or create awareness on solution to solve the diseases. In South Africa, the
awareness of HIV and AIDS is very low as half of the population do not have a clear view on the causes of HIV and AIDS and other means of
prevention. They do not have a knowledge of what HIV or AIDS is, why it happens, how it happens and how it can be prevented which can lead to
more widespread. In South Africa, HIV was viewed as a curse or even an act of punishment. The South African denied creating awareness for AIDS
because of the power of knowledge compared to power based in politics, not wanting their political governance to be overruled by the knowledge of
the western world.

Clean needle exchange is not available in Nigeria. HIV is not only spread through sexual contact. Sex workers are another common way for people
to carry the disease. The majority of the people do not know their HIV or AIDS status. There are many solutions that may have worked in the past,
but with a twist to this solution of people living with AIDS and HIV. For the people who do not know their HIV and AIDS status, at home tests
would allow them to test themselves. This would give individuals the knowledge of what their own status is if they were HIV positive or HIV
negative. If the people were more educated about their health and disease, these problems would not be so bad in Africa. Another way to treat these
people with the disease is by medications and antibiotics. In the United States, they are using many medications to fight HIV infection. The medication
they are using is called Antiretroviral therapy, also known as ART, this medication is not a cure. Although it does control the virus so they can live
and reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to others, from the "Overview of HIV Treatments" (2015), they state that, These HIV medicines prevent HIV
from multiplying (making copies of itself), which reduces the amount of HIV in your body. Having less HIV in your body gives your immune system
a chance to recover and fight off infections and cancers. Even though there is still some HIV in the body, the immune system is strong enough to fight

33.3 million people are infected or living with HIV, of which 22.5 million are in sub–Saharan Africa. In addition, of the2.5 million children in the world

lower–middle–income nations known as the hyperendemic countries. In South Africa alone, there are about 5.7 million people living with HIV/AIDS.
In Swaziland, 42 per cent of women attending antenatal clinics are infected, with similar rates found elsewhere in the region. Many children are
affected by the disease in a number of ways: they live with sick parents and relatives in households drained of resources due to the epidemic, and those
who have lost parents are less likely to go to school or continue with their education.Studies in the regions of Southern Africa and South–East Asia have
found HIV/AIDS to negatively impact both the demand for and supply of education.1,2 Orphaned children are either pulled out of school or not
enrolled at all due to the financial constraints of their affected families, and have to assume responsibilities of heading or providing for households. In
this respect, girls are more vulnerable. In Kenya, links were found between parental deaths and children 's progress through school. In Tanzania,
households that have experienced an adult death have been found to delay the enrolment of younger children in school, but try to keep older children

HIV/ AIDS affects many people in the world. One of the many places that have the highest HIV/ AIDS epidemic is in South Africa. South Africa has
one of the highest prevalence of HIV/ AIDS in the whole world. There are 6.3 million people living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa. There is a 19.1%
adult HIV/AIDS prevalence, 340,000 new infections, 200,000 AIDS related deaths, and 42% adults on antiretroviral treatment. South Africa has the
largest antiretroviral treatment program in the world. There are also many HIV/ AIDS prevention programs in South Africa. A lot of South Africans
have to deal with this horrible disease on a daily basis, affecting and changing their lives forever. Other than the programs to prevent HIV/AIDS, there
are many other solutions to prevent HIV/ AIDS in South Africa such as HIV/ AIDS education, HIV Awareness, etc.
The South African HIV/ AIDS prevalence is very high in Africa. There are many different ways that HIV/AIDS is transmitted. One way that HIV
/AIDS is transmitted is poverty. HIV/AIDS is an outcome of poverty. Because there are a lot of poor people with limited resources, they get what
they need by engaging in risk behavior, such as sex. There also is a lot of sexual violence in South Africa. There were a total of 53, 617 sexual
offences reported in 2014 and 2015. That is a lot and does not even include the sexual offences that were not reported. This is one of the reasons why

In the early 1990's, around the time during which the movie Philadelphia came out, HIV/AIDS was thought to occur only through MSM (men who
have sex with men) and was commonly referred to as "the gay disease." Nowadays, it is no longer seen that way. HIV/AIDS is "now recognized as
the most serious disease pandemic of our time" (Baur et al., 2011). With that being said, there are several prevention techniques that may reduce the risk
of contracting HIV/AIDS. It is important to be aware of the six bodily fluids that can contain HIV and which of those have the highest concentration
of the virus as well as to know the difference between the facts and the myths/stereotypes about HIV/AIDS. Although there is no cure for HIV/AIDS,
there are many available treatments that have proven to be pretty effective over the years. Finally, an organization that is making a real contribution to
the world through education and prevention of HIV is the International AIDS Society. Our society no longer thinks of HIV as a disease that occurs
only through MSM. Through extensive research and education on the virus, we now know that HIV infection can occur through a variety of different
portals. In the United States, ethnic and racial minority groups, as well as MSM, account for a majority of the total number of AIDS cases reported
since 1981, while worldwide, statistics show that heterosexual contact has always been the primary form of HIV transmission worldwide, especially in

1.INTRODUCTION There is a global trend that HIV/AIDS has prevailed the globe. According to the UNAIDS, at the end of the year 2015 there were
approximately 36.7 million people around the world infected with HIV/AIDS including the estimated 2.1 million individuals worldwide who were
newly infected in that year. The World Health Organization(WHO) indicates that a limit of 54% of HIV/AIDS individuals know that they're infected. It
also indicates that two thirds of the reported case (approximately 25.6 million people) occupy the sub–Saharan Africa region. With respect to the HIV
/AIDS related mortality, the WHO provides an estimation of 35 million AIDS–related deaths since the start of the epidemic (including 1.1 million in
2015). The UNAIDS indicates that only a fraction of 17 million people living with HIV/AIDS were accessing its antiretroviral therapy (ART)
globally. This signifies that the majority of people living with HIV/AIDS still do not have access to the treatment, care, and transmission prevention
of the disease, and this would go back to one of the two possible reasons: either their country doesn't have these medical services available, or if it
does, then they do not have enough money to access the treatment in it or abroad. Therefore, the statistics provided convey a relation between the
epidemic and the societal and economic conditions of the patients' countries. This socioeconomic relation appears in the form of many negative social

HIV and AIDS are different. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus and AIDS stands for acquired immune deficiency syndrome. This disease
damages a person's immune system making it easier to get sick. HIV is transmitted through semen, vaginal fluids, blood, and breast milk. HIV works
by attacking the T–cell in the human body. There is no cure for this disease, but early detection is important for treatment. Once a person is diagnosed
with HIV they will always have it. This is a very devastating disease and it is preventable.
Synopsis of film
I chose to watch the movie And the Band Played On. This movie took a look into the first years of when they discovered HIV/AIDS. The movie starts
out with two doctors over in Africa trying to contain the Ebola disease before it spread to other parts of the country. They burned the bodies to
prevent the disease from spreading more. As the movie continues it starts case by case of each patient infected with HIV. The doctors are baffled by
the lab values showing that the patients have no T–cell count. Nevertheless, the CDC starts getting involved because they know that it is occurring
among the homosexual men and the numbers keep rising. They started interviewing homosexual men and searching gay community places to
understand how it was spreading. They found poppers that could be a possible cause but all the tests that they ran on them came back with no possible
reasoning that it's causing this disease. The doctors began looking into

During the 1980's, a very devastating infectious disease broke out in America, which is now known as the Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome

is lack of knowledge which has resulted in growing number everyday. "UNAIDS estimates that as of December 2000, there were an estimated 36.1

Since the nineteen hundreds, Africa coped with countless problems related to HIV and AIDS. Anthropologists, scientists, doctors, and psychologists
discussed theories related to the issues presented by HIV/AIDS. Researchers study the effects of poverty, polygamy, geography, and social relationships
on HIV/AIDS. One of the prevalent theories on how the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) spread is through the increase of sex workers in
Africa. An increase in sex work correlates to an increase in poverty. Due to the economy and culture, women turned to sex working as a way of
acquiring income. In order to reduce HIV contraction among sex workers and their clients, a change in intervention methods and legislation is needed
to protect the rights of those in poverty and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. HIV is a virus that affects the immune system by destroying the white blood
cells. After living with HIV and not treating it, it can completely ruin the immune systems and then becomes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.
The virus is spread through the contact of bodily fluids, which means it can be contract in a variety of different ways. Some of the most common
ways are sexual contact, sharing needles, or blood transfusions. This virus carries a heavy burden in Africa because it "originated in central Africa"
(Pepin, 6). Also, due to the culture and beliefs of the African people, HIV/AIDS spread rapidly in Africa. There were a plethora of contributions to the

The first case of HIV was reported in 1981 and since then, it has spread rapidly turning into a pandemic (WHO 2014). Thirty–five million people
currently live with HIV worldwide and 2.1 million deaths were recorded in 2013 (WHO 2014). HIV in the WHO African region is the highest in the

One of the high burden countries in this region is Nigeria and it ranks as the second highest after South Africa (WHO AFRO 2013). Despite the efforts

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is the terminal stage of the HIV infection however with essential treatment not every infected individual gets to
this stage. HIV is transmitted through transfusion of infected blood, sexual intercourse, sharing contaminated needles, during childbirth from mother to
child and during breastfeeding (WHO 2014).
Nigeria has an estimated population of 174 million people and 3.7% of this population are living with HIV/AIDS. Two hundred and ten thousand
people died as a result of HIV/AIDS in 2011 (UNAID 2012). The first case of HIV in Nigeria was reported in 1986 and since then several
programmes have been planned and implemented (NACA 2014). Nevertheless we are nowhere near eliminating the emergence of incidence cases
considering the fact that there is no available cure for the disease (WHO AFRO 2013). Despite this, a reduction in prevalence was observed from
5.8% in 2001 to 4.1 % in 2010 and it highlights that it is possible to reduce prevalence by preventing the continuous transmission of the disease (NACA
2014). Therefore, there is need to restructure the existing policies and adopt new approaches to tackling this burdensome public health concern in
Nigeria.
Knowledge and awareness of HIV among the Nigerian population is very high based on the report of Lammers et al. (2013) where it was reported that
89.5% of Nigerians are aware of HIV. However, only 5.3% of this

Aids : The Age Of Aids
1.Throughout the Age of AIDS film many topics that were related to AIDS were brought up that I did not know anything about before. I did not know
that there could so many strings attached to a disease and have such an influence in people's lives whether it was negative or positive.
The first scene in the movie I thought was powerful was the scene where kids with HIV were forced to leave school due to the fear of the parents and
the ignorance they had back then about not understanding how HIV were transmitted. Dwayne Maori a 12 year old hemophiliac infected with HIV
from Tennessee was forced to quit school due to the fear of other parents and the ignorance that they had about AIDS. In this particular scene the
parents were protesting outside the school with big poster boards, when Dwayne Maori left in the car there was a parent shouting out loud that he is
trying to kill everyone but the parent is not going to let him kill her baby. Others were shot or got their houses burnt to the ground. I think that this
scene is important and powerful because this scene tells us how one person's word can lead to so many fears in the society (when president Reagan
re–enforces that AIDS can spread by casual contact). This scene also showed us how scared people were about this new virus. At the same time, this
scene tells us that HIV doesn't only affect the person infected by it, it affects their families as well. This scene is effective because it allows us to learn
that when these new

The World Of Diseases We Live In: HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS has been named a global epidemic because of its many outbreaks around the world. This is
not happening on one state, but it is happening in every state and country you could name. It has been a major cause of death in the world, which
results in the situation becoming a public health concern. It poses a risk to future generations. The most affected generation being the most active age
group, which are the younger ones who are not protecting themselves. HIV is short for Human Immunodeficiency Virus and if it is left untreated, it can
develop into AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). This disease is not like many other diseases, once a person come in contact, they cannot
get rid of it. This is something that stays in one's body for the rest their life. HIV attacks a human's body immune system by attacking the CD4 cells,
which causes them not to work properly in fighting off infections. It can become worse if it is left untreated. This is an important topic to researchers
because this is something that could affect a person's life long–term. Barbara Wexler's "AIDS/HIV" raises several interesting facts such as, how much is
treatment, what are the treatment options, what are the different types of coverage, and many more. A more specific issue this book brings to light is
whether there can be a way to prevent transmission of this death causing disease. HIV/AIDS is highly talked about in

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), is a viral infection that attacks the immune system, which then results in a slow progression of this illness.
This viral infection can lead to further infections as well as possible cancer. Once the immune system can no longer continue its battle with HIV, this
leads to what is commonly known as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. HIV/AIDS is a common and devastating concern in many households,
and has been a longstanding health issue affecting sub Saharan Africa. However, it should also be noted that countries around the world are all at risk
of HIV/AIDS infection through the migration of people to their region. HIV/AIDS is a much more prominent health concern characterizing sub
Saharan Africa because of the treatment of women in society, extreme poverty resulting in the lack of education for people and access to basic needs,
and government inaction to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The experiences that individuals encounter when it comes to HIV/AIDS may be a type of
social determinant for how one might tolerate the slow progression of the human immunodeficiency viral infection. With regards to how a woman's
social status relate to their experience with HIV/AIDS, females may experience gender–based violence differently when compared to others in their
home country. Women who live in sub Saharan Africa are seen to hold a lower status in everyday society. In sub Saharan Africa, it is suggested that

HIV & AIDS
Ofcource you have heard about HIV and AIDS many times, but many of you don 't know the basics about them.
AIDS is the abbreviation of acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
AIDS is caused by a virus named HIV. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. Its mechanism of action is that it breaks down theimmune
system i.e. our body 's natural defence system against disease. HIV make people so deficient in immunity that even minor quantity and weak oganisms
become capable to cause disease easily which can never effect normal human beings.
Before going into the details of AIDS, let me tell you about immune system. Basically our immune system consist of some killer cells and chemicals.
These chemicals are antibodies which detect and combine with any foreign bacteria or cell. Killer cells identify any foreign cells or germs and thus eat
them up. These cells are neutrophills and lymphocytes (white blood cells).
A person may get HIV but may not show any symptom because it remain inactive in bone marrow for many years and grows and spread to other
sites slowly slowly. As bone marrow is involved in the production of white blood cells so it destroys their ability to produce lymphocytes drasticaly
causing many cancers and infections to grow freely and rapidly.
According to a survey, more than 980,000 cases of AIDS have been reported to the U.S government uptill now. In the United States about 40,000
women and men catch AIDS each year.

Aids

  • 1. Aids AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is a disease caused by a virus called HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The illness alters the immune system, making people much more vulnerable to infections and diseases. This susceptibility worsens as the disease progresses. HIV is found in the body fluids of an infected person (semen and vaginal fluids, blood and breast milk). The virus is passed from one person to another through blood–to–blood and sexual contact. In addition, infected pregnant women can pass HIV to their babies during pregnancy, delivering the baby during childbirth, and through breast feeding. HIV can be transmitted in many ways, such as vaginal, oral sex, anal sex, blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following information will help you protect yourself against HIV and AIDS. AIDS Information Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes AIDS, which is the term used to describe the later, potentially more serious, stages of HIV infection. HIV damages the immune system and destroys the body 's CD4 T lymphocytes (T cells), one of many types of white blood cells the body uses to fight disease. T cells help the immune system "identify" foreign organisms that should be attacked. Thus, when the T cells are destroyed, it 's like being defended by a leaderless army that is easily defeated. A person can be infected with HIV for ten years or even longer without showing any symptoms. However, in most cases, during that time the virus is attacking the immune system and destroying T cells. By the time HIV damages enough cells to bring on full–blown AIDS, many of the typical symptoms can be present: weight loss, sporadic fevers, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, diarrhea, and opportunistic infections such as certain types of pneumonia. Rare cancers and infections of the kidneys, digestive system, and brain can also develop. HIV is passed from person to person by direct contact with blood or other body fluids through activities like unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sexual contact with an infected person or through sharing syringes or needles ... • 2. Hiv And Aids : Hiv / Aids Josh Wang Global Health AI Global Fund Project Assignment #7 Country: Uganda Disease: HIV/AIDS 1.)Provide a brief introduction to your overall plan and strategy for this proposal. Uganda used to be one of the most prevalent cases of HIV with around 18.5% being infected in 1992 to its lowest rate of 6.4% in 2005 . Even though the HIV rate is increasing at certain rates amongst adults Uganda has done a good job of keeping the HIV prevalence at a generalized rate. This stems from Uganda recovering from numerous political strife and a civil war which left many orphaned and dead. Now that Uganda is regaining its political stability, it has turned its attention to the HIV problem in the country with the president of Uganda creating a commitment program designed to combat HIV, noting its deadliness. Through government and international organizations efforts, the prevalence of HIV total has only lead up to 7.4% of the total population. This results in around 1.4 million Ugandan's infected with HIV/AIDs with around 190,000 children being infected as well . But although most Ugandan's have equal access to HIV testing and counselling there are a certain most–at–risk population group that has a high prevalence of HIV. They are the sex industry and homosexuals. Through the resources of the Global Fund, this proposal aims to answer that question of why HIV is so prevalent amongst sex workers and homosexuals by looking at the recent spread of the HIV/AIDs virus and to go further and ... • 3. Hiv / Aids : Hiv And Aids Throughout the history of South Africa, problems regarding the overall well–being of the country have arisen. One current issue South Africa is currently facing is HIV/AIDS. The disease has been plaguing South Africa as well as other countries throughout the continent. The initialism HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. This disease attacks and destroys the infection–fighting CD4 cells of the immune system. Loss of these cells makes it difficult for the body to fight infections. Without treatment,HIV can gradually destroy the immune system and advance to AIDS. Human immunodeficiency virus is a multistage disease and AIDS is the most advanced stage. AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. According to the World Health Report, South Africa's health system is ranked 175th in the world, making it one of the lowest in the world. With such a low–quality health system, the disease is easily spreading throughout South Africa quickly. The epidemic has detrimentally affected South Africa's economy causing low productivity and a reduced labor supply. This, combined with the need for enhanced medical imports and a reduced exportation rate, is causing economic instability for the South African government. With all the negative effects of HIV/AIDS in South Africa, creating a better health system and ensuring healthy citizens must be a priority. In order to achieve healthy and productive citizens, the government must focus on more permanent, cost effective, solution to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Title: HIV / AIDS Date: December 10, 2011 Name of speaker: Darius Umande II. Overview of the topic As I have learned from my past lessons in high school and elementary, HIV which stands for human immunodeficiency virus is a kind of virus, specifically lentivirus, that causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome better known as AIDS. As what our high school teacher taught us, HIV can be transmitted commonly from person to person by having an unsafe sexual intercourse with an infected person whether anal, oral or vaginal sex, through blood transfusions from the contaminated needles, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course I don't like to be someone who has this kind of virus, syndrome or infection. And maybe I won't be able to apply into a good job if I have AIDS, or maybe I could not, at all. I was really disappointed about the cases of people having HIV. The percentage of people here in our country is already overwhelming and it might get higher after some time if we won't take action about it. The best thing to do is to be a lot more careful, to be twice more aware, and to control ourselves from having unsafe sex. People should get rid of temptation and people should think wisely. Additionally, people should always get a regular check – up to test whether they already possess AIDS, then if yes, it should be treated immediately. If no, better. IV. Lessons Learned Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome developed from Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV) is a disease of the human immune system. ADIS is the serious final stage f HIV. It carries nonspecific symptoms. HIV is a slow virus that thrives on living human cell, attacks the immune system by making his/her body susceptible to infections such as pneumonia and tuberculosis. HIV can be transmitted into many ways such as vaginal, oral or anal sex, blood transfusions, contaminated needles or indirect contact through solid particles, exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy,

  • 6. The Epidemic Of Aids And Aids AIDS AIDS, also known as (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is definitely one of the most deadliest disease that has hit the Earth in all of human existence. With all the medicine that can help a person with this disease they still haven't cured it. The ways that the AIDS cells can reproduce different kinds of AIDS cells, and plus the ways that a person can get the disease. These reasons are why AIDS are so far incurable for humanity. AIDS is a medical condition that a person has when their immune system is too weak to fight off infections. AIDS is a updated or worst form of HIV that aggressively attacks the immune system. A person with AIDS can have 200 white cells or lower. The virus AIDS is known to attack and kill the white blood cells so that they can't fight off the infections in your body. The AIDS cells make their way inside of the cells in your body then start to reproduce and kill that cell. No cell that the AIDS cells reproduce are the same. That is why there is no cure for the AIDS or HIV virus, also known as (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The only thing that the doctors can do is slow down the reproduction process. AIDS was first found in Africa and Africa has an outstanding amount of AIDS victims. Scientist believe that AIDS came from monkeys. Monkeys have cells of AIDS in their blood, and since the people in Africa eat the monkeys the AIDS cells gets into their bloodstream and starts to attack. If an infected person uses a needle to take drugs and that same needle gets used by another person, that person becomes at risk of catching HIV too. On average, one in ten new HIV infections is caused by the sharing of needles. It is estimated that there are 12 million people who inject drugs worldwide, and around 1.6 million (one in seven) are thought to be living with HIV ('People Who Inject Drugs, HIV and AIDS' on December 16, 2016). The last possible cause of HIV/AIDS is during pregnancy or delivery or through breast–feeding. If the mother has HIV or AIDS and is pregnant, it puts the baby at risk of catching the disease too. There is a 15–45% chance of passing HIV to their baby if the mother doesn't take HIV treatment. So if one is a parent, it is very important to check their health for their own safety and their children 's too. There are some signs that can indicate that the HIV virus is developing in the body, (according to www.aids.gov on 12/31/2015). • 10. AIDS And AIDS In South Africa In South Africa, AIDS is one of the top causes of death. South Africa has the biggest AIDS/HIV epidemic in the world because of violence against women, poverty, and lack of education. Given this, "Africans account for nearly 70% of those who live with HIV and are dying of AIDS" (Morgenstern, Dr. Michael). For centuries, "AIDS has been spread through sexual contact and direct contact with bodily fluids such as blood, semean, and breast milk" (Disease background). Also, is spread through perinatal transmission which is when an AIDS–infected mother gives birth and passes the virus on to her child. The virus develops rapidly in the first few months affecting the immune system and preventing the body from fighting infections. The sex trade began to grow around the same time AIDS started to spread. Many say that, "most of the first AIDS cases were recorded in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1920, and by 1980 the disease was spreading in different parts of Africa" (Origin of HIV and AIDS). While both women and men are affected by AIDS, younger women have a higher risk of getting infected "rates of new infections among women aged 15–24 were more than four times greater than that of men the same age" (HIV and AIDS). These events of the early history of the country lead to coups where the country eventually reformed its political views into a more democratic one towards the 1990's, which is the beginning of the country's higher level of commitment towards health care with ideals that follow the UN's convention... Most of the hospitals are located in large urban areas in the country so it's densely packed in the Central and Greater Accra regions (Oliver's Google Map, 2015). This means that there are very little hospitals in rural areas which is where we need them most, because that's the area where people have little access to them due to transportation issues and how far away it is from them. Money from the Global Fund spent in transportation will be used to help build new roads and public transportation services in more rural areas to increase the accessibility to health services. These actions can be helped reached by coordinating and working together with the CHPS (Community–based health planning services) who's already working on transportation barriers in the country (Nyonator). They can help disperse and allocate funds to areas in most need of them ranked by prevalence of HIV in the region and number of hospitals. The education barrier trend follows a similar pattern as the lack of accessibility to health in rural areas (Oliver's Google Map, 2015). Schools are mostly located in urban areas in the same regions where most hospitals are located (Central and Greater Accra). Money spent on this issue of lack of primary schools and colleges in rural areas will help build more schools and colleges where people especially women can be educated. • 12. Hiv / Aids : Hiv And Aids HIV/AIDS What is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)? AIDS is the disease that an individual with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) has a chance of getting when their immune system becomes so damaged, opening up the body to many different illnesses. According to medical research not everyone who has HIV will in fact be advance to the final stage of the disease, especially when caught and treated early on. For someone to be diagnosed with AIDS typically they would have contracted an infection or cancer from their immune system being too weak to fight the infection away, and in most cases their CD4 cells (T–cells) count would be under 200, the normal amount being between 500 and 1,600. A lot of people may wonder where did the HIV disease initially come from, and how did it spread? The answer is simply from chimpanzees in Central Africa, their version being called Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV). When humans needed to hunt these animals for food as far back as the 1800's, it is believed that is when they contracted the virus and it transformed into the human version known as HIV, slowly working its way from Africa to the United States in the 1970's (AIDS.gov, 2015). Once a person contracts HIV it starts to attack the CD4 positive lymphocytes which are part of our immune system that helps to fight off infection. The virus being so strong it has the power to turn healthy cells into unhealthy ones, eventually taking over the body's defense against illnesses. HIV has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Hiv And Aids : Aids INTRODUCTION Hello, today we are discussing HIV and AIDS. This disease is known as a severe decline in one's immune system resulting in a decreased ability to resist infection and malignancy. A lot of people ask what the difference between HIV and AIDS is. HIV is the virus that causes the diseaseAIDS. With this being said, I will now discuss some objectives that that will be covered throughout this lecture that I hope will help guide you as well as help you have a better understanding of the progression of this disease (Welcome to AIDS.gov, 2009). OBJECTIVES These objectives include: Be able to know the difference between HIV and AIDS, become knowledgeable about where and how HIV first started, be able to identify the five different theories that were possibilities to HIV transmission, know how it is transmitted, know what categories of people at risk, be able to identify the different discriminations and stigmas related to HIV/AIDS, be able to briefly identify the past and present treatments that are/were used and why others are unable to receive treatment, and overall just to have a general idea of the timeline of HIV/AIDS. HIV OR HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS We are going to start by discussing some background information on HIV. Most of us already know that HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV is a lentivirus which is a subcategory of retroviruses. The term lentivirus basically means that symptoms at onset are delayed and do not show up until later. Not ... • 15. Aids Prevention And Testing Of Hiv / Aids Nikolas LaMaack Mrs. Reaves Advanced Writing 8 October, 2015 AIDS Prevention and Testing "More than 1.2 million americans are living with HIV, including 156,300 who don't realize it" (Kaplan). The HIV/AIDS epidemic hit a peak in the 2000's. These diseases attack the immune system making them incapable of fighting off diseases. Specifically,HIV,human immunodeficiency virus, attacks the immune system, weakening it, and slowly making it produce more HIV–cells. AIDS,acquired immune deficiency syndrome, then takes over and the immune system is so weak that it no longer has the ability to fight the infectious cells. These diseases have no cure and can only be slowed by treatment. HIV/AIDS spreads by bodily fluids such as sexual activities, sharing needles, and accidents that include blood. Testing and prevention of HIV/AIDS should have more emphasis than treatment because it would allow people to be more cautious, treatment still allows HIV /AIDS to spread, and it would stop the contraction of diseases. Caution and knowledge when dealing with HIV/AIDS is ideal to combating the epidemic. As on average, "1 in 6 people with HIV don't know they have it" (Greiger). HIV and AIDS are hidden killers to begin with, so regular testing is the only way to catch the disease in its early stages before a person is unaware and continues to spread the infection. Many people live years without knowing they have this disease due to the disease not showing symptoms in its early phases. "More than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aids : A Modern Interpretation Of The Aids Although many people see this book as a great modern interpretation of the AIDS evolution, I found it difficult to be fully engaged with the immense amount of scientific information and terms. Despite the fact I do not have a positive opinion of the book, Pepin's extensive knowledge and research is evident and bolsters his claims and his epidemiology. Pepin beings the book with the origins of AIDS, debunking the popular claims which spread throughout the United States. Secondly, Pepin introduces the way the AIDS epidemic spread and then completely devastated the Central African population. Afterwards, Pepin reveals how AIDS spread, thus contradicting the knowledge the general population of America has known since the 1980's. After reading all of this, I felt increasingly more annoyed with how the entire AIDS epidemic has been handled. The information on how the spread of AIDS truly occurred is not widely diffused throughout America, so the notion of it being predominantly gay related is still well–known. Jacques Pepin does an astounding job with disclosing the information of the AIDS epidemic, but the information remained difficult to read due to the dry and immense amount of scientific verbiage. Diving into the first section of the book, Pepin introduces geographic areas of Africa which stand as the places where the AIDS epidemic sprouted. In addition, HIV is the most dangerous illness that they can get. Although the number of people who have the diseases is small, "it is estimated that without any intervention the prevalence in the general adult population could be as high as 2% in 2012 and 8% by 2025" (HIV and AIDS in Bangladesh 2009). According to the recent Children and AIDS, Third Stocktaking Report 2008 published by four UN agencies, only 16% of girls aged between 15 and 24 had a comprehensive knowledge of HIV in Bangladesh and 60% of males had never used a condom. Thus, for the women working in the profession, not only the name "prostitute" but also the illness will follow them the rest of their lives. The negative impact of prostitution is also on the children of prostitutes. In this Islam country, there is the existence of early marriage, which leads to males having sexual intercourse with the girls under 18 years old. That is the reason why the demand for child sex workers from 13 to 18 years old exists. Approximately 300 children live in a brothel and they have witnessed sex working environments such as sexual abuse, drugs, and violence. HIV attacks the part of your body that fights disease better known as the immune system. The virus makes the immune system shut down and stop working. The immune system shutting down is the worst part about HIV not having any signs or symptoms to notify you of the virus is the worst part. Most people that have HIV looks health and only knew that had the virus by taking blood tests. There is however some ways a person cannot get HIVAIDS. A person and not transfer AID/HIV by hugging, kissing, talking to or touching a person with HIV. A person cannot get the virus by sharing foods, drinks using a public restroom, swimming together. Some of the ways to reduce HIV andAIDS is by Limiting the number of sexual partners, getting tested and knowing your partner's HIV status. Limiting the number of sexual partners can reduce HIVAIDS. It is important to have sex with just one person. "The more sexual partners you have in your lifetime, the more likely you are to have a sex partner who has HIV or sexually transmitted disease (STD)" so recommended for people to slow down on their sexual partners. Proved to be originally from Sub Saharan Africa (S.S Africa) region, HIV/AIDS has spread throughout not only the S.S. Africa, but it eventually becomes the global disaster in the late 20th century (Gus). HIV/AIDS has gained attention from the media when the death many patients by the new emerging disease is reported in Europe and US (Satpathy 27). However, these cases directly refer to S.S. Africa because infected patients either are originally from or have travelled around this region (Satpathy 28). In addition, out of 1000 blood samples result taken in Kinshasa in 1970s, scientists have found HIV positive among these blood sample (Satpathy 28). This means that HIV/AIDS have been circulating around this region for at least 10 to 12 years since HIV is an asymptomatic disease (Satpathy 41). However, the HIV/AIDS only becomes an epidemic in S.S. Africa around the late 20th century, shown in statistics that are taken from UNAIDS: Progress Report 1996–1997. Many people blame the poverty in S.S.Africa as the cause for letting this deadly disease out of control. Others criticize the African government for avoiding the responsibility of suppressing this epidemic. Certainly, in order to prevent a further pandemic, we need to study the actual explanation of this epidemic. This arises the question: Why did HIV/AIDS become an epidemic in the late 20th ... • 22. Hiv And Aids : Hiv / Aids Essay Women with drug addictions has conclusively linked with HIV/ AIDS since this epidemic has started. HIV is the acronym for human immunodeficiency virus and it causes the immune system to become weak. As a result, this causes the body to be terrible at protecting itself against diseases and other viruses. HIV causes damage by harming the immune cells in the body. The immune cells it affects are called CD4 positive (CD4+) T cells, which are vital for fighting infections in the body. HIV metamorphose the CD4+T cells into little factories that cause the production of more of the virus to destroy other healthy cells, which eventually destroys the CD4+ T cells. When a person has less than 200 in cell count, the patient diagnosed with the disease AIDS. HIV/AIDS and its link to drugs is involved when risky behaviors are involved when transmitting or contracting the deadly disease. Since AIDS is not cure–able, prevention of transmission can be avoided is very important to understand in sexual education. Some treatments and therapies are given to drug abusers, which aid these goals of sexual education. The immune system weakens when the T cells are lost and as a result, a person becomes more subject to infections and common illnesses, to help slow this process down, special medicine is distributed to the person infected with the virus. Some medicines and remedies are given to HIV patients to help lower the risk of transmission and advancement of the disease. In addition, it helps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. HIV / AIDS, AIDS And AIDS In The United States AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection in which the body's immune system is severely weakened. Left untreated, HIV transforms into AIDS and often will be what kills an individual. The HIV/AIDS crisis greatly impacted the homosexual community and drug abusers more so than any other population. Although the disease appeared in 1981 during the first year of Ronald Reagan's presidency, he did not fully address the crisis until almost the end of his second term in 1987. The only previous mention of the disease was on September 17, 1985, where he said AIDS was a "top priority" (qtd. in Burki). Despite this, come 1986, Reagan proposed "an 11 percent reduction in AIDS spending" (Burki). The AIDS crisis required faster and further intervention from the United States government. Due to President Ronald Reagan's silence and inaction, thousands of Americans (and people around the globe) became infected with AIDS and died from it. The United States' government's reactions to the AIDS crisis were delayed and insufficient, leading to more deaths, more pain, and more stigmatization of the gay community. Funding AIDS research was a debate for many years, and President Ronald Reagan defended his administration's choice to fund research while also taking controversial actions that seemed to deter the fight against AIDS. Although the United States' government allocated $70 million to the researching process of the emerging crisis in 1985, The National Academy of Sciences said the United ... Within that, it has been estimated that there are 6.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa, which is the highest number from any country in the world (2), and represents 17% of the global burden of HIV infection (3). HAART has been the mainstay of treatment for HIV in industrialised countries since the 1990's (4). Since its widespread introduction, it has changed the course of the epidemic dramatically and improved survival and quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS (5). HAART consists of three different antiretroviral drugs, given in combination. In 2013 the World Health Organisation (WHO) released its updated guidelines for the use of HAART in HIV/AIDS (Appendix 1), providing recommendations for policy and decision makers for more widespread use of HAART (6). These guidelines also raised the recommended threshold for initiation of HAART from CD4<350cells/mm3 to CD4<500cells/mm3 in asymptomatic patients (6), with a note that priority for starting treatment still remained with individuals with lower CD4 counts (<350cells/mm3). Despite this continuing expansion of HAART eligibility, uptake remains low in many places, with only 54% of those eligible for HAART with a CD4<350cells/mm3 receiving it worldwide (7). Whereas, you hear that HIV AND AIDS is common in low and middle income countries and Sub–Saharan Africa in one of them. Uganda and South Africa is recognized for having the largest population of people living with HIV and AIDS. Most project, conference or debaters have visualized that the reasons for the widespread of HIV and AIDS is sexual transmission and infection. Most people do not realize that the increase in the widespread of HIV and AIDS in the Sub–Saharan Africa is lack of awareness, lean on cultural and religious belief, dissension of scientific community, and deprivation of political responsibility. Making a perception of a disease reduces the widespread of the disease or create awareness on solution to solve the diseases. In South Africa, the awareness of HIV and AIDS is very low as half of the population do not have a clear view on the causes of HIV and AIDS and other means of prevention. They do not have a knowledge of what HIV or AIDS is, why it happens, how it happens and how it can be prevented which can lead to more widespread. In South Africa, HIV was viewed as a curse or even an act of punishment. Nowadays, it is no longer seen that way. HIV/AIDS is "now recognized as the most serious disease pandemic of our time" (Baur et al., 2011). With that being said, there are several prevention techniques that may reduce the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. It is important to be aware of the six bodily fluids that can contain HIV and which of those have the highest concentration of the virus as well as to know the difference between the facts and the myths/stereotypes about HIV/AIDS. Although there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, there are many available treatments that have proven to be pretty effective over the years. Finally, an organization that is making a real contribution to the world through education and prevention of HIV is the International AIDS Society. Our society no longer thinks of HIV as a disease that occurs only through MSM. Through extensive research and education on the virus, we now know that HIV infection can occur through a variety of different portals. According to the UNAIDS, at the end of the year 2015 there were approximately 36.7 million people around the world infected with HIV/AIDS including the estimated 2.1 million individuals worldwide who were newly infected in that year. The World Health Organization(WHO) indicates that a limit of 54% of HIV/AIDS individuals know that they're infected. It also indicates that two thirds of the reported case (approximately 25.6 million people) occupy the sub–Saharan Africa region. With respect to the HIV /AIDS related mortality, the WHO provides an estimation of 35 million AIDS–related deaths since the start of the epidemic (including 1.1 million in 2015). The UNAIDS indicates that only a fraction of 17 million people living with HIV/AIDS were accessing its antiretroviral therapy (ART) globally. This signifies that the majority of people living with HIV/AIDS still do not have access to the treatment, care, and transmission prevention of the disease, and this would go back to one of the two possible reasons: either their country doesn't have these medical services available, or if it does, then they do not have enough money to access the treatment in it or abroad. This movie took a look into the first years of when they discovered HIV/AIDS. The movie starts out with two doctors over in Africa trying to contain the Ebola disease before it spread to other parts of the country. They burned the bodies to prevent the disease from spreading more. As the movie continues it starts case by case of each patient infected with HIV. The doctors are baffled by the lab values showing that the patients have no T–cell count. Nevertheless, the CDC starts getting involved because they know that it is occurring among the homosexual men and the numbers keep rising. They started interviewing homosexual men and searching gay community places to understand how it was spreading. • 32. Hiv / Aids And Aids HIV/AIDS During the 1980's, a very devastating infectious disease broke out in America, which is now known as the Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Aids have been one of the most damaging and destructive diseases in history. The only reason behind the spread of the deadly disease– AIDS is lack of knowledge which has resulted in growing number everyday. "UNAIDS estimates that as of December 2000, there were an estimated 36.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS (34.7 million adults and 1.4 million children under 15)" ("AIDS Information, Education, Action, Awareness | How Many People Have HIV and AIDS?" AIDS Information, Education, Action, Awareness | How Many People Have HIV and AIDS? Web. 1 Nov. 2015). Aids has become a worldwide Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is the disease that is caused by Human Immunodeficiency virus. "It break downs the immune system –our body's protection against disease. HIV causes people to become sick with infections that normally wouldn't affect them" (Planned Parenthood, 2014). HIV is a virus that attacks a key part of our immune system known as the T–Helper cells or CD4 cells. These cells help our body to fight against infectious diseases. When HIV attacks those cells it makes our immune system weak, and makes our body vulnerable to any diseases like AIDS. But having HIV doesn't always mean having AIDS. A person has to meet certain criteria to be diagnosed with AIDS such as a very low CD4 cell count and the presence of any AIDS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Hiv / Aids : Hiv And Aids Since the nineteen hundreds, Africa coped with countless problems related to HIV and AIDS. Anthropologists, scientists, doctors, and psychologists discussed theories related to the issues presented by HIV/AIDS. Researchers study the effects of poverty, polygamy, geography, and social relationships on HIV/AIDS. One of the prevalent theories on how the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) spread is through the increase of sex workers in Africa. An increase in sex work correlates to an increase in poverty. Due to the economy and culture, women turned to sex working as a way of acquiring income. In order to reduce HIV contraction among sex workers and their clients, a change in intervention methods and legislation is needed to protect the rights of those in poverty and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. HIV is a virus that affects the immune system by destroying the white blood cells. After living with HIV and not treating it, it can completely ruin the immune systems and then becomes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. The virus is spread through the contact of bodily fluids, which means it can be contract in a variety of different ways. Some of the most common ways are sexual contact, sharing needles, or blood transfusions. This virus carries a heavy burden in Africa because it "originated in central Africa" (Pepin, 6). Also, due to the culture and beliefs of the African people, HIV/AIDS spread rapidly in Africa. There were a plethora of contributions to the AIDS epidemic, sex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. AIDS In Brazil Brazil has a big AIDS epidemic trying to prevent and help people people with AIDS. Just after AIDS first came to Brazil, they had one of the highest AIDS cases reported. Just behind the United States. Though the number of cases has decreased, it still proves to be a major problem, not only in Brazil, but around the world. AIDS had affected mostly males at first, however, it eventually affected everyone who was exposed to the disease. AIDS has proved to be a very big problem, there are about four million new cases and about two and a half million people that die from AIDS each year. They are also telling women about the disease and offering free testing and if needed, treatment for the disease ("A Portrait in Red" 1). Even though they are providing all these people with plenty of help, it still has not made a drastic change. • 35. Aids : Hiv And Aids HIV/AIDS IN NIGERIA Introduction The first case of HIV was reported in 1981 and since then, it has spread rapidly turning into a pandemic (WHO 2014). Thirty–five million people currently live with HIV worldwide and 2.1 million deaths were recorded in 2013 (WHO 2014). HIV in the WHO African region is the highest in the world as the continent bears 70% of the disease burden (WHO AFRO 2013). In 2013, 24 million people in Africa were reported to be living withHIV. One of the high burden countries in this region is Nigeria and it ranks as the second highest after South Africa (WHO AFRO 2013). Despite the efforts on the international and local fronts to curb this epidemic, the continuous rise in new cases has shown that more needs to be done. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is the terminal stage of the HIV infection however with essential treatment not every infected individual gets to this stage. HIV is transmitted through transfusion of infected blood, sexual intercourse, sharing contaminated needles, during childbirth from mother to child and during breastfeeding (WHO 2014). Nigeria has an estimated population of 174 million people and 3.7% of this population are living with HIV/AIDS. Two hundred and ten thousand people died as a result of HIV/AIDS in 2011 (UNAID 2012). The first case of HIV in Nigeria was reported in 1986 and since then several programmes have been planned and implemented (NACA 2014). Nevertheless we are nowhere near eliminating the emergence of incidence cases considering the fact that there is no available cure for the disease (WHO AFRO 2013). Despite this, a reduction in prevalence was observed from 5.8% in 2001 to 4.1 % in 2010 and it highlights that it is possible to reduce prevalence by preventing the continuous transmission of the disease (NACA 2014). Therefore, there is need to restructure the existing policies and adopt new approaches to tackling this burdensome public health concern in Nigeria. Knowledge and awareness of HIV among the Nigerian population is very high based on the report of Lammers et al. (2013) where it was reported that 89.5% of Nigerians are aware of HIV. However, only 5.3% of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Aids : The Age Of Aids 1.Throughout the Age of AIDS film many topics that were related to AIDS were brought up that I did not know anything about before. I did not know that there could so many strings attached to a disease and have such an influence in people's lives whether it was negative or positive. The first scene in the movie I thought was powerful was the scene where kids with HIV were forced to leave school due to the fear of the parents and the ignorance they had back then about not understanding how HIV were transmitted. Dwayne Maori a 12 year old hemophiliac infected with HIV from Tennessee was forced to quit school due to the fear of other parents and the ignorance that they had about AIDS. In this particular scene the parents were protesting outside the school with big poster boards, when Dwayne Maori left in the car there was a parent shouting out loud that he is trying to kill everyone but the parent is not going to let him kill her baby. Others were shot or got their houses burnt to the ground. I think that this scene is important and powerful because this scene tells us how one person's word can lead to so many fears in the society (when president Reagan re–enforces that AIDS can spread by casual contact). This scene also showed us how scared people were about this new virus. At the same time, this scene tells us that HIV doesn't only affect the person infected by it, it affects their families as well. This scene is effective because it allows us to learn that when these new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Hiv And Aids : Hiv / Aids Essay The World Of Diseases We Live In: HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS has been named a global epidemic because of its many outbreaks around the world. This is not happening on one state, but it is happening in every state and country you could name. It has been a major cause of death in the world, which results in the situation becoming a public health concern. It poses a risk to future generations. The most affected generation being the most active age group, which are the younger ones who are not protecting themselves. HIV is short for Human Immunodeficiency Virus and if it is left untreated, it can develop into AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). This disease is not like many other diseases, once a person come in contact, they cannot get rid of it. This is something that stays in one's body for the rest their life. HIV attacks a human's body immune system by attacking the CD4 cells, which causes them not to work properly in fighting off infections. It can become worse if it is left untreated. This is an important topic to researchers because this is something that could affect a person's life long–term. Barbara Wexler's "AIDS/HIV" raises several interesting facts such as, how much is treatment, what are the treatment options, what are the different types of coverage, and many more. A more specific issue this book brings to light is whether there can be a way to prevent transmission of this death causing disease. HIV/AIDS is highly talked about in ... • 39. Hiv / Aids And Aids Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), is a viral infection that attacks the immune system, which then results in a slow progression of this illness. This viral infection can lead to further infections as well as possible cancer. Once the immune system can no longer continue its battle with HIV, this leads to what is commonly known as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. HIV/AIDS is a common and devastating concern in many households, and has been a longstanding health issue affecting sub Saharan Africa. However, it should also be noted that countries around the world are all at risk of HIV/AIDS infection through the migration of people to their region. HIV/AIDS is a much more prominent health concern characterizing sub Saharan Africa because of the treatment of women in society, extreme poverty resulting in the lack of education for people and access to basic needs, and government inaction to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The experiences that individuals encounter when it comes to HIV/AIDS may be a type of social determinant for how one might tolerate the slow progression of the human immunodeficiency viral infection. With regards to how a woman's social status relate to their experience with HIV/AIDS, females may experience gender–based violence differently when compared to others in their home country. Women who live in sub Saharan Africa are seen to hold a lower status in everyday society. In sub Saharan Africa, it is suggested that the overall population more male ... • 40. Hiv And Aids : Aids HIV & AIDS Ofcource you have heard about HIV and AIDS many times, but many of you don 't know the basics about them. AIDS is the abbreviation of acquired immune deficiency syndrome. AIDS is caused by a virus named HIV. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. Its mechanism of action is that it breaks down theimmune system i.e. our body 's natural defence system against disease. HIV make people so deficient in immunity that even minor quantity and weak oganisms become capable to cause disease easily which can never effect normal human beings. Before going into the details of AIDS, let me tell you about immune system. Basically our immune system consist of some killer cells and chemicals. These chemicals are antibodies which detect and combine with any foreign bacteria or cell. Killer cells identify any foreign cells or germs and thus eat them up. These cells are neutrophills and lymphocytes (white blood cells). A person may get HIV but may not show any symptom because it remain inactive in bone marrow for many years and grows and spread to other sites slowly slowly. As bone marrow is involved in the production of white blood cells so it destroys their ability to produce lymphocytes drasticaly causing many cancers and infections to grow freely and rapidly. According to a survey, more than 980,000 cases of AIDS have been reported to the U.S government uptill now. In the United States about 40,000 women and men catch AIDS each year. Symptoms Of AIDS AIDS patient usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
