The document discusses the controversial issue of whether religion should be taught in public schools in the United States. It outlines some of the key arguments on both sides of the debate, such as the importance of exposing students to different viewpoints versus the need to maintain separation of church and state. The issue has led to numerous Supreme Court rulings but remains unresolved with problems continuing to arise regarding the appropriate role of religion in public education.

Teaching Religion in Public Schools: Benefits of Exposure to Diverse Ideas
1. The Controversial Issue of Teaching Religion in Public...
The Controversial Issue of Teaching Religion in Public Schools
Religion and public schooling, is one of today's most controversial issues in society . The question at
hand is whether the teachers in the public schools should teach religion in America's school systems
or not. This controversy has been the issue of many Supreme Court rulings within the past thirty–
five years. Separation of church and state seems inevitable for this nation. Problems keep arising
and court rulings are handed down nearly every day. The issue at hand has never been taken care of
directly at the source. Why has religion in schools never been taken care of, and what will happen if
it is allowed to remain a conflict? How much longer will this great ... Show more content on

It was mandatary for the students to participate. After Murray found out that her son was subject to
participate in religious activities, she pulled her son out of school as protest to his being involved
with religion. After attempting to talk with the Vice–Principal to the Superintendent of Schools, and
failing in her attempt to clear up this matter, Murray brought this issue to the attention of the
newspapers, radio, and local television stations. This issue would later receive national attention and
bring an oversized crowd to the courtroom the day her case went to the State Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Boston Schools did compromise and allow Bill to excuse himself from the school's
daily religious activities (Blanshard 105–06).
In February of 1963, after being defeated by the lower state courts, Murray finally got an appeal to
the highest state court. Once again Murray was defeated, but she had won the opinion of three of the
seven judges on the panel. These four judges ruled, "The short answer to this claim is that the
equality of treatment which the Fourteenth Amendment affords and does not provide protection
from the embarrassment, the divisiveness or the psychological discontent arising out of non–
conformance with the mores of the majority" (Blanshard 106). This in perspective means that even

3. Student Diversity For Students With Diverse Backgrounds,...
Since beginning this class, how has your definition of "student diversity" changed?
Since beginning this class my definition of "student diversity" has change throughout the summer.
The topics we covered were unique to the class and engaged my interests. These topics were not
discussed in my previous Master's courses and most of the topics were considered not important to
teaching. When I was told I had to take a student diversity class I was tentative. The definition I had
before the class didn't include many of the topics we discussed during the forums. My thought
process has changed a lot and I can't wait to incorporate many of the strategies I have learned
throughout the course. I'm more prepared and confident when it comes to ... Show more content on

When I think of differentiated instruction I think of student's readiness levels in all the subjects in
the curriculum. I have also used many strategies to help students to be successful during lesson
objectives. I'm going to incorporate six differentiated strategies into my classroom next year.
First, I will be using equity sticks to allow all of the students in my room to participate in the
classroom discussion. If I asked a question and knew the person didn't know the answer I would
have the class partner talk until I knew everyone had the correct response. Then I would pull a stick
and call on that student. This give students the ability to participate without fear of being wrong.
Second, I will be using sentence frames to help differentiate instruction. Sentence frames help
students to get started in the right direction. The frames structure the lesson plan to make students
successful at the lesson objective. This makes sure that the students in the classroom achieve the
objective set forth by the teacher.
The third strategy I will be implementing into my classroom next year will be multiple ways to
express understanding. I have used this in the past with great outcomes. I will be trying to use it
across the curriculum to enhance the learning of a specific subject and objective. Letting students
express themselves gives them confidence for the future. The more confidence a student has the

5. The Theory Of A Teacher
I understand that running an entire state can be difficult, but it is critical for an important man, such
as yourself, to keep in mind the education system in New York and to remember the future of the
state. The Danielson Framework for teachers, although it does provide a standard to assess teachers
on, is ultimately inaccurate and inefficient. The framework fails to provide an assessment on how
"effective" a teacher is but rather how effective a teacher can act while getting reviewed. In the
occasion that a teacher does attempt to follow the framework throughout the year, they could end up
focusing too much on the minor aspects than focusing on the content they are teaching. Please
understand that there are better ways to judge the effectiveness of a teacher. The Danielson
Framework has forced teachers to means of teaching they are not comfortable with. Teachers have
changed their entire teaching methods for their evaluations. My teacher shifted from a normally
lecture–heavy class setting, which has its benefits, to worksheets and activities for one day to
convince their evaluators that they are "engaging students in learning" with "activities and
assignments." Although you may believe that these activities are engaging, a teacher whose main
strength is in lectures and whose students have grown accustomed to his lectures did not know how
to effectively use those worksheets. To this day I have no idea what I learned in that activity. It was
not only this one teacher who

For my observations, I interviewed Penny who teaches gymnastics to children at a local fitness
center. She teaches classes every Friday and Saturday to children ranging from 2–14 years old. I
observed her multiple times and recorded 6 hours of observations. After talking to Penny Lane, I
found out she did gymnastics as a child at her local fitness center. She was a student for there for
about 8 years, while growing up. Then while she was in high school she was asked to teach for
students at her fitness center. She enjoyed it so much that when she moved up to Bellingham, she
asked the fitness center in town if she could teach some lessons. At the time, no one was teaching
gymnastics and the fitness center said that she could teach. She was able to create her own lesson
plans and has been working at this location for 2 years. This is how she was able to get involved
with this type of work. She did mention a few struggles with the job such as the fitness center does
not have a lot of funding and that sometimes hinders the lessons and she explained that older
students tend to drop out and go somewhere else. When I asked her how she felt about her work she
said that it was easy and fun. She really enjoys working with kids and feels comfortable teaching
gymnastics. She wants to keep this job throughout her schooling because she wants to be an
elementary school teacher once she graduates from college. She doesn't make very much money so,
I would say based off of my observations

9. The Importance Of Teaching Religion In Public Schools
Religion in Public Schools
A student sits in class all day listening to the droning voice of their teacher drilling them with
secular ideas, memorizing the ideas as fact. As the student continues into the real world, they only
know the secular ideas they have accepted as fact. Unaware of the views and beliefs of a large
portion of American society, confusion can overwhelm students. Public schools often teach secular
ideas as fact and ignore religious ideas. Offering both viewpoints to students to students in public
schools is important. Teaching religion in public schools has a positive effect on children.
Students have the opportunity to learn about almost any topic they need to know in life at school,
religion should be among the classes offered. A growing number of families have both parents
working full time out of the house. A 2015 survey showed about 46 percent of homes with two
parents present, have both parents working full time jobs (Wormald). Consequently, parents have
less time to spend at home investing in the lives of their children. The parents are unable to properly
bring up well rounded children, which has pushed the responsibility onto public schools (Wormald).
Students no longer receive all the training they once received out of school to prepare them for the
real world. Parents have more trouble balancing all they need to accomplish for work with the
important life lessons and topics they once taught their children (Wormald).

11. Mexican American And Mexican-American Cultures
After reading the article, my understanding of the terms have changed drastically, when i personally
think about Mexican–American or Chicana/O's, i think that they choose to identify as a certain
culture that represents them best.
When identifying as a culture or a best representation of how you feel in your heart, i feel it comes
from the way you are raised and brought up, if your family identifies as a Mexican–American than
you will believe that is what you are, and it goes on from generation to generation.
Even 5 or 6 generations ago the family could have identified as Hispano's or even Spanish, but as
times change cultures change and people have change of heart.
These terms are not only culturally related but they are derived from struggle and identification from
a political standpoint, as what was taught in class the term Chicana/O is a political positioning for
people who have been positioned by the government.
From the outside looking in, when knowing someone identifies as a certain culture i notice that it is
not only a way of self identification that was passed down from suffering and scrutiny but it is also a
way of moving on from a certain struggle that has oppressed them for so many years.
Yes, these terms are a way of self identification, heritage, culture and a way of life, it goes back to
the same way you are brought up and the environment in which you live in.
Potentially while growing up and as you get older in life there is a possibility of changing

13. Children 's Development And Their Learning
There are various areas within the teaching role that are important in order to aid children through
their development. There are three key principles; Planning, Teaching and Assessment (Education
Scotland, 2011).
Throughout this essay I will focus on how these principles affiliate children's development and their
learning. Two English Lessons completed during the introductory placement will underpin this
evaluation.
Planning
At the core of any planning lies the National Curriculum. Before Planning can even begin a teacher
must know what the children need to learn. When the teacher gave me my topic's I went straight to
the National Curriculum. It is also important in order to plan for progression to know what they have
previously covered so I arranged a meeting with the class teacher. Once all this information had
been established I collated my planning.
Denby, (2012) claims starting a lesson with what children already know lends itself to the
importance of planning. He believes lessons must be planned to accommodate progression. It is
important that teachers feel confident about what their pupils know or can do. Once this has been
determined their next challenge is to plan lessons that allow children to collectively move forward.
There are three key areas of planning that are covered within schools, Long–term planning, Mid–
term planning and Short–term planning (Lesson planning).
The school initially sets out an overall curriculum framework that fits in the schools aims,

15. I Designed My Lesson Plan
a.) I designed my lesson plan to be used in first and second grade. This lesson plan was designed to
be a cross curriculum lesson about spiders that incorporates the following subject areas: Science,
Language Arts, and Visual/Performance Arts. This lesson will be taught during the month of
October after students have gained prior knowledge through an insect unit that was taught the month
before.
(b.) The content object that I used in this lesson was for students to be able to identify important
information about spiders. I think that providing students with background knowledge prior
(teaching a month long unit on insects) would assist students when it comes time to do a unit on
spiders. I think that the most challenging aspect for this lesson would be the vocabulary words. The
vocabulary list that I have complied varies in difficulty and I believe that some of the words would
be more challenging to some of the students. I would ensure that these words were taught previously
in the insect unit in order for students to become familiar with these words. I would also have prior
knowledge of my student's abilities and provide individualized word lists that match the student's
ability. In addition, I would stock the student library with a variety of books about spiders that
contain the vocabulary words, and utilize various center activities to reinforce the lesson objectives
for this unit. The content object that I created is both measureable and observable and the

In this theory it is believed that activities are needed in order to reinforce the information that the
student has been given. This is what reinforces the learning that has taken place in the classroom.
Activities make learners think and thinking motivates learning O'Neil, Fisher, & Newbold, 2009). In
this lesson the material that is presented in the classroom lecture will be reinforced during the small
group sessions when the learners are given activities to do in regards to the information that they
have been given. The biggest difference between student–centered education and traditional
education is that with student–centered education a variety of teaching methods are used (Blumberg,
2008). People all learn in different ways and at different levels and using just one standard teaching
method does not always work for everyone. Learner–centered education is beneficial to both the
teacher and the student in that it provides the perfect environment for hands on learning. It allows
for the instructor to tie the material to real work examples and situations while allowing the learner
to relate the learning to their own experiences.

Main Beliefs The teachings of religion have for the most part stayed the same throughout the
countless years that they have been around for. The main beliefs of each religion may be different
but are somehow connected in one way or another. Each religion has its own unique set of basic
guidelines in order to lead a fulfilling life and ultimately reaching a connection with whatever high
power they believe in. Christian's beliefs are very sacred to them, just as any other religion. The
doctrines of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Trinity and the Bible are of the utmost important. The

Within the realm of Christianity there are several denominations and faith groups that have their
own views of the doctrines. In the Christianity religion, Christians believe in one God, the father
almighty. They believe that God is the creator of Heaven and earth, that he is all that is righteous.
God is made up by three people know as the Holy Trinity; the Father, the Son, Jesus Christ, and the
Holy Spirit. The bible is the Word of God, it contains ones complete system of doctrine. He is not
made of flesh and bones as other humans, he is an image in any which way you may want to see
him. Everyone and everything was a vision of God at some point, you must love another as God has
loved you.
Jesus Christ is the son of God, he was sent to earth to preach a message of salvation, love and care
for the all those in need. On page 346 fourth paragraph the author talks about the teachings of Jesus
Christ. "Jesus is unique in making the doctrine of the kingdom the basis of ethical behavior. Moral
acts of repentance, love, charity and nonviolence are God's requirements for the acceptance into the
kingdom." (347) He was born of the Virgin Mary and was tempted of sin but did not give in. He was
to fulfill the acts of the Old Testament and because of his moral perfection he was crucified and his
death was for all who have or had sinned and resurrected. Between the demoninations of the
Christian religion, the beliefs of afterlife vary.

21. Early Education For Children : Early Childhood Educator
Early education for children is very crucial as it helps shape up the foundation of their knowledge
and behavior development process. Children begin to develop the sense of curiosity from the age of
two. And from age 2–8, children go through a very crucial period of mental development, which
shapes up their future mindset (Grayson, 2016). Early children education (ECE) has been listed as
the number one priority of the National Association of Education. The teachers or educators at
nursery and primary level are responsible to for developing young children's sense of knowledge

When comes to teaching children, patience is more important than knowledge. The teacher has to
handle every student with care and humor, and be patient when describing certain things to them.
Children develop and learn smoothly through humor and positive vibe. During their learning and
developing period, children will face a lot of obstacles. It is the teacher's job to see that each student
can overcome those challenges smoothly. It is very important for an educator to keep a positive
attitude in front of the children. Children understand and learn more when they feel comfortable and
friendly. It is the teacher 's utmost responsibility to see that every child under his care feels at ease
when developing knowledge. An ECE must understand that there is a significant amount of
difference in every child (Mellinger, 2017). They think differently and they develop differently. He
must have to patience to face the challenge every day without losing his cool and staying calm. He
also has to be an effective problem solver. He needs to assist his students in not only academic
problems but also in any sort of challenges. Communicating with young children is totally different
than communicating with other students in general. A teacher must be able to communicate with the
children at their own level. His way of delivering a knowledge or a lesson should be simple so that it

23. Religion And Religious Teachings On Religion
Religion is very important in every once life as our behavior is influenced by the religion we preach.
It explains individuals about their duties to themselves as well as to the society the live in and it also
describes how people view the world compared to others. Furthermore, religion shows us path to
worship God as it establishes our beliefs in having relationship with God. In other words we can say
religion gives purpose and a meaning to life. This purpose provides individual with their
individuality and sets each individual apart. This definition of relationship gives us a new zeal life
and helps us to climb the ladder of salvation to achieve eternal bliss. The ways of achieving this
eternal bliss or liberation of soul is different in different religion. However, to understand this
process of reaching this bliss full state one needs to understand the religion and moreover compare it
to other religions to have a better insight. This knowledge can be obtained by analyzing the
scriptures and religious teachings that shows the methods to reach the goal in life. The two religion
that seems more relevant studying Indian Sub–continent religions are Brahmanism and Buddhism.
In both of the religions the ultimate aim is to achieve liberation however the way to reach may vary.

31. Elementary Social Studies Methods Tina C. Denning
Final ELED 424 – Elementary Social Studies Methods Tina C. Denning
At the beginning of this term the beliefs statements were as follows:
1) Social Studies is a social relationship in a number of studies (history, geography, etc.). Noting a
past of memorization of dates and names, and no relevance therefore, nothing was memorable or
had any importance.
2) How I want to teach social studies? Taking information and making it fun so students can
remember it longer and using groups not limiting ourselves to textbooks.
3) Dates are important and dates are not important. History has importance but not every date and in
an age of instant information knowing how to find the needed information and correct information is
vital.
4) Find Relevance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These 4 beliefs are more important now because of the short amount of time that was spent in a 4th
grade classroom. Combining the two sets of beliefs will be shown in a new social studies belief
statement.
1) Meaningful & Relevance: In practicum the lesson was citizenship and the three branches of
government. To make this meaningful to the students and then relevant was impressive. Mrs.
Anderson asked the core of the lesson plan on the first three days to give the basics. This was
relatively easy and the students made it easier by doing their "jobs" and learning. On day four, Mrs.
Anderson walked the students through the process of how a bill becomes a law. She divided the
students into the House of Representatives, Congress, and a President. She provided "bills" that
lobbyist wanted to be a law. She guided them through a bill becoming a law and a vetoed bill. The
students were 100% actively engaged and enjoying the lesson. She knew the students and how to
divide them up and how to both engage them, keep them engaged and still teach a
meaningful/relevant lesson.
This is the top of the belief list because it is something that is also not limited to just social studies.
Attempts were made to include this in practicum but it is something that will take some time. The
engagement part may be easy but maintaining the energy takes more than just showing up with an
activity but making it meaningful for the

33. Teaching Religion In Public Schools
Teaching Religion in Public Schools? A common classroom issue is whether or not to include
religion in the curriculum. Some individuals think that teachers need to stick to a set curriculum, and
that is the bottom line, but on the other hand, people believe that allowing teachers to have freedom
to teach what they want should be acceptable. However, the best way to teach and not offend anyone
is to leave religion out of the equation altogether and encourage teachers to teach common core
courses. "The Bible has affected the world for centuries in innumerable ways, including art,
literature, philosophy, government, philanthropy, education, social justice, and humanitarianism."
For this reason alone, teaching the Bible in a classroom setting ... Show more content on

Incorporating a common curriculum set in place by the government insures that every student is
learning the same material in each classroom, and it also insures that students are better prepared for
college courses. Teachers who are for teaching religion may want to teach creationism, but teaching
evolution is better for preparing a child for higher levels of education ("Academic").
People have their own opinion as to whether or not to allow the incorporation of religious concepts
and teaching in the public school system. Whether a person is for it or against it, the idea of
separation of church and state is a must. Schools need academic structure, and to maintain that
structure, teachers who want to minister should do so during their leisure time, and during school

37. Graduation Speech On Teaching And Learning And Interactive...
I enrolled in the Certificate in the University Teaching (CUT) program in spring 2014 right after
completing the FUT program in winter 2014. Through the GS901 workshops, I learned about
students' traits and attitudes toward learning and interactive teaching through active learning. With
regards to course design, I learned the importance of having an organized, yet flexible, course plan
that is designed in equilibrium with course objectives and assessments. Teaching observation
practicum, provided me with an opportunity to assess my teaching from the perspective of an
experienced educator. Below, I will discuss the elements and strategies that I have experimented
with based on the comments and suggestions I received.
COLLECTIVE LEARNING:
One of the key elements in teaching undergraduate classes is to create a learning environment that
cultivates critical thinking and mastery of concepts. As an instructor, I have experienced with
various active learning methods to keep my students engaged and motivated. Within the pedagogy
toolbox, I found the element of discovery to be the most effective way of teaching. In my classes,
before even explaining a new concept, I usually pose a question to class and ask my students to find
a solution. I ask my students to work in pairs (and sometimes groups) to come up with a solution
without them knowing the new concepts. The idea is to assist them to discover the new concepts by

main schools of thought, Theravada and Mahayana. Going over the pillars of Theravada Buddhism
we learned how the religion is structured in such a manner that people do not have to practice in a

enlightenment. Also discussing the difference between being in an elevated state of bliss and actual

devotion, care and practice that religion has set throughout time rather it focuses on following the
tenets that the left behind, and allowing each individual to tread their own path.

41. Using Peer Tutoring And Peer Assistance
Introduction
After taking the survey, I now realize I wish I was doing more differentiated instruction in my
classroom. I chose a lot of "somewhat agrees" and that means that I sometimes implement
differentiation but not always. Reading through all of the questions really had my thinking on how I
use them in my classroom. For example: one of the questions I had trouble with was: I make
frequent use of peer tutoring and peer assistance in my classroom. I do not do any of that in my
music classroom. I could try and have students help me hand out instruments or papers when we use
them. Peer tutoring is what I struggled with the most and know for a fact that I do not use that in my
teaching. I could however, when teaching quarter and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will sometimes jot down by their name on the seating chart who needs help with what. Doing more
formal assessments is a must in my classroom. One example of a formal assessment that I did this
past year was teaching the second graders the song "Rocky Mountain." Once the song was
memorized the students would come to the front of the room and sing "Rocky Mountain" for
everyone to hear and I would grade them on their singing ability; if all words were memorized, sang
each note on the correct pitch and if they sang in the correct key throughout. I found this to be very
helpful with their personalities and interests because I found out who really liked singing and who
did not really enjoy it. I also found out who was shy and who was more outgoing. This helped me
prepare some of lessons for the next few times and I knew who I could call on to sing for everyone.
Another strength that I have is helping students set individual learning goals. I recently helped a
student who usually has a hard time concentrating and staying on task create a GPAR (Goal–Plan,
Action and Result), to help him get through his classes more focused. It worked very well and the
student got a great result and therefore I know I will be doing this more next year to help a lot more
students become successful.
Improvements
Some of the improvements that I need to make in my classroom is taking inventory of my students'
learning preferences before I

43. Religion Based On The Teachings Of Jesus Christ And...
Religion is defined as the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially
personal God or gods according to the Merriam–Webster dictionary. Humans have a historical
tendency to search for greater meaning and purpose and this is why people hold on their religious
beliefs. Most people follow the same traditions and values of their parents. Religion can be
considered a tradition influenced by values which affect people's actions and traits. Two examples of
religions are Christianity and Buddhism based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha
respectively. They have spread from where they originated and had changed the religion has
moderated in the past decade, these different religions claim different knowledge and utilize
histrionic stories for teaching, and to gain followers and popularity.

PEDAGOGICAL STRATEGIES FOR THE TEACHING OF MATHEMATICS IN NIGERIAN
PRIMARY SCHOOLS FOR SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract
For a country to be technologically developed there is need for efficient handling of mathematics at
levels of education. The perennial low performance of pupils in mathematics has been attributed
among other things to inadequate knowledge of subject matter content by teachers and poor
instructional techniques. This paper highlighted the basic principles for effective teaching and
learning of mathematics in primary school which is a fundamental stage of child education. ... Show

The teacher may acquire mastery of the contents but lack skills in the appropriate methods. This
may affect the students understanding of the subjects. There are many approaches to teaching of
mathematics. These include: * Problem solving * Discovery Approach * Expository * Laboratory *
Questioning skills * Individualization group work * Demonstration, etc. (Johnson & Rising,
1972)
All these methods are good but no teaching method could be regarded as superior to the other. In
application, combination of these methods will be desirable. It all depends on the content, objectives
and the nature of the learners.
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE TEACHING OF MATHEMATICS 1. Basic stages of
teaching and learning
Fakuade (1981) identifed three significant stages of learning topics in mathematics. These are: *
Concrete materials and demonstration of real life situation stage * Semi–concrete or pictorial studies
stage * Abstraction stage Pupils in the primary schools have the age ranges between 5 and 12. This
is the age period that coincides approximately with the Piaget's concrete operational stage. This is a
transitional stage between the pre–operational period (a period when the child cannot yet perform
any serious operation, a period of intuition when the child's reasoning is not yet quite logical) and
the formal operational stage (a period when the child thought process

47. The Principles Qualities Of A Good Teacher
In contrast, the type of inquire based approach that is taught in some of the SKE lessons at
University of Sussex allows the student to understand why a method works and encourage a
comprehension of the mechanics behind the steps taken to solve a problem. Personally, I have
noticed that as I gain confidence in my mathematical ability, these sessions become more enjoyable.
Still, to achieve confidence and be able to follow these lessons, I need to familiarize myself with a
method beforehand. For me this is most effectively achieved by solving series of example problems
by a given sequence of steps before embarking on a journey of understanding the reasoning behind
each step. These inquiry–based lessons, therefore, are most valuable when preceded by lessons with
more direct instructions and teacher led demonstrations. Thus, this supports my vision that since all
students have their own preferred method for learning, even if they are not aware of it, the ability to
explain a topic in a number of different ways is one of the principle qualities of a good teacher.
Interestingly, as part of the SKE course I was given the opportunity to spend some time in a college,
observing and assisting in lessons to students that needed to retake their GSCE exams. The main
method of teaching in these classes was purely instrumental, with the goal to equip the students with
the knowledge to pass their GSCE exams but without any deeper understanding of the methods. No
emphasis was put on

49. Planning And Assessment Of The Primary School For A Teacher
Planning, teaching and assessment are essential in the primary school for a teacher to ensure that
successful learning and progression takes place. These three components link together however they
should not be considered as a linear experience because assessment should not and does not always
occur at the end of these processes (Earl, 2003). The process has a cyclic nature where each part
contributes to the final outcome; you must plan to be able to teach a lesson, but to do so you must
assess prior knowledge to allow for future progression. I will explore how this important cyclic
process takes place and how different approaches, such as using story books, are used to do so in
relation to the foundation subjects, particularly looking at Religious Education (RE), music and
computing.
Thorough planning in the primary school is important as it ensures teachers have a structure and
context for each lesson and that they can have a positive impact on children's learning and progress.
Pugh and Pugh (1998, p. 115) recognise that without clear planning, teachers would not know what
they're trying to achieve, how to achieve it and when it is to be achieved. Despite the age of this
literature, the concept around planning remains today; it is crucial to plan the curriculum and lessons
in three stages; short, medium and long term.

delivered in accordance with a locally agreed

51. The Role of Children's Books in Education Essay
From the time a child is born, the task of the parents and society is to educate that child. If a child

From parent seminars, to books and movies, to even games consoles, children are not only being

norms and values of a particular society. This essay will look into what the children's materials of ...

like Aesop's Fables2 and Children's Stories of the Bible3 children are taught things such as
perserverance, hard work, patience, and obedience. Aesop's Fables teach children important lessons
about how to live their lives. The stories vary from The Hare and the Tortoise, to Briar Rabbit, and
The Ant and the Grasshopper. each of these stories are presented to children to teach them the lesson
of perserverance by seeing how the tortoise never gave up and because of the haughtiness and pride
of the hare, the tortoise won the race. The child that hears or reads this story may not realize that
they are being taught lessons, but they will still begin to learn that pride and haughty attitudes will
cause them to lose things that are important, while perseverance will lead to gain. obediences the
other stories teach respect for others things, that disobedience will lead to trouble, and that hard
work will take you further than laziness. Similarly, the Children's Stories of the Bible, which used to
be a staple in most schools and homes, teaches the stories of the Bible characters, but also teaches
the values that are taught in the stories. This book teaches the story of David and Goliath. Not only

55. Teaching Techniques in Religion by Robert Baird
In the essay "Religion," Robert Baird argues against teaching techniques of secular university
religion courses. Baird's repeated use of phrases like "humanistic," "human culture" and
"understanding of man" in the paragraphs following thesection titled "The Secular Study of
Religion" all accurately describes the state of secular university religion courses. The first point
Baird uses to argue against the methods of teaching, is the humanistic basis of the courses. Braid
also argues that secular religious courses have no specific line of attack. The study of religion does
not possess a distinct methodology. It utilizes the methodologies of history, literary criticism,
philosophy, sociology, or phenomenology when they seem appropriate, avoiding reductionism only
to various degrees.
This leads to the last argument Baird makes against teaching techniques of secular university
religion courses. Baird argues strongly against the secular university's strong reliance on history as a
method of teaching religion. All of the arguments Baird used to support his dislike of teaching
techniques used by secular universities in religion courses; are very accurate and are very well
supported in his essay. For the reminder of the essay, Baird addresses the position Christians need to
take when confronted with the academic study of religion. First he addresses the historical aspect of
teaching the Christian will encounter. When Baird tackles this aspect of

57. The Importance Of Teaching Religion In Public Schools
A student sits in class all day listening to the droning voice of their teacher drilling them with
secular ideas, memorizing the ideas as fact. As the student continues into the real world, they only
know the secular ideas they have accepted as fact. They are unaware of the views and beliefs of a
large portion of American society. Secular ideas are often taught as fact in public schools and
religious ideas are ignored. Offering both viewpoints to students to students in public schools is
important.
With both parents working
they have less time to spend at home investing in the lives of their children. The parents are unable
to properly bring up well rounded children, which has pushed the responsibility onto public schools
(Wormald). Students no longer receive all the training they once received out of school to prepare
them for the real world. Parents have more trouble balancing all they need to do for work with the
important life lessons and topics they once taught their children (Wormald).

59. A Teacher Can Impact A Student 's Life
Confucius, a famous Chinese teacher said, "Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope.
Hope breeds peace." In the previous quote by Confucius, it is obvious that a teacher can impact a
student's life. Moreover (TRANS), the way a teacher generates hope and confidence provide a good
equity at school for the students; therefore, a good teacher spread confidence in students, which may
help them to be encouraged. Maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness,
encouraging students, and finding the right teaching methods for each student are three of the many
characteristics in becoming an inspirational teacher. First, maintaining the right balance of strictness
and friendliness is one of the most impactful factors for a teacher who (AC) tries to have an
appropriate relationship between students. Also, instructors are supposed to follow up with their
students to understand students' difficulties and their situation in life. Providing an email address,
phone number, and office hours help students to keep in touch with their instructor. However,
teachers need to keep the balance between friendliness and strictness; moreover, an inspirational
instructor needs to set up some rules for the classroom environment. For example, the instructor
may request students politely that they are not allowed to use their phone during the class because it
distracts them from paying attention to the class and subject. However, instructors should not be
hard for their students

Intercultural relationships remain an enduring and a fundamental necessity within the lives of young
people. The group comprising of Alven, Antanita and oneself provided a lesson plan for a culturally
diverse, co–educational class of year eleven students. It was the intent of the lesson to foster and
promote the positive perceptions that the children had already gained through the appreciation of
cultural diversity. The aim was for students to develop and open–minded approach to accept other
cultural beliefs and practices, and thus, avoiding a judgmental approach falling within a
stereotypical view. This allows the students to digress from a narrow–minded perspective and adopt

However, this class was linked to year eleven, comprising of 16 and 17 year olds. This gave rise to
considerable discussion, as the group believed that the ideal time to learn values is more appropriate
during adolescence, such as years seven or eight. After a considerable reflection it was deduced that
to a degree it is true that in partying knowledge and values upon younger students is both more
effective and easier, as at this age they are more impressionable and accepting of new ideals.
However, learning is not a an end product and the intent of the lesson was more about nurturing the
ideas that the students have already subconsciously gained, whilst aiming to foster and enhance
these values, in order for them to emerge consciously enriched. The teachings of Sankey and Kim
(2013) under the umbrella of the Dynamic System Theory greatly influenced these decisions, were
they stress a non linear and highly variable process of development, and thus, signifying an older
age group does not quantify the need to disenfranchise themselves from moral development.

developmental needs of the students as well as the importance of multicultural relations. The
activities also did not shun away from their own significant pedagogical issues, specifically

65. Teaching Religion and Science In Public Schools
In the United States, the average child goes through public funded schools that have a basic
curriculum. According to the Texas Education Agency, some of the subjects include science,
mathematics, social studies, English, and more. Nowhere in the subject is religion included. The
basic curriculum is made in order to give students skills, knowledge, and to help develop the minds
of the future. In science class, evolution is taught either briefly or detailed. It is taught because it is a
popular theory that did not seem to choose a certain religion. So why believe that religion and
science can be taught together? The evolution of Earth and the universe can be believed in any way
an individual chooses.
Science and religion are subjects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The twisting revelation leaves holes most want to fill in. The wanting to know is what keeps these
scientific theories going.
Knocking down religion is not the purpose. Religion itself has existed for generations. The
fundamentals that go into each religion are the base of how people act and feel. Science can be a
little cold and that is okay. "There were gaps in Newton's universe...in Einstein's universe"
(Krauthammer 40). But then again, religion is not something that is completely discredited. It is
believed by some philosophers that if religion did not exist and Gods were not real, then why do
people know about them? According to philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein's idea of an infinite power
was an unsayable thing and it is the underling of everything that one could say. This might be the
opinion of a philosopher who has faith. In science there is no research to see why people do such
things. There is a chance in social science but that could be the same as religion. Sociology and
psychology are not taught in science classes, so it shows that each class has something different. The
separation of those classes allowed Charles Darwin to get the concept of evolution from Plato and
Aristotle's work. Aristotle suggested "Ladder of nature" (Audesirk 267). This led to the discovery
natural selection. Learning religion separately from science allows a

67. Different Forms Of Co Teaching
Lauren Dursky and I decided that we would implement different forms of co–teaching for different
subjects. It did not seem efficient to use the same method for each subject, so we decided to vary the
instruction. For math, we decided to use station teaching. This allows students to discover a true
understanding of each concept through different activities. This style of co–teaching also allows
each teacher to incorporate his or her own unique perspective into the classroom. This style could be
challenging for math because it requires extra planning and you have to make sure both teachers are
teaching similar methods at the same time so movement from one station to the next is smooth. We
then decided to use the teaming method for history. The teaming method allows both teachers to
present their own views to the class and bounce ideas off of each other (The Power of 2, 2005).
Instead of using textbooks to teach history, we decided to take a concept and explore its significance
through events and debates. We would start off by each presenting a different point of view on a
single event and have students divide into two groups based on their initial thoughts. Each teacher
would then lead their portion of the class through research and constructing a debate. After a couple
days spent learning about the situation and preparing an argument, the two halves of the class would
debate.

71. Peer Coaching : Mentoring Benefits And Limitations
Peer Coaching or Mentoring Benefits and Limitations The proposed workshop must take in
consideration training supervisors in peer coaching. Peer coaching is beneficial for both supervisory
and teaching practices. It enables supervisors to provide directed assistance to every teacher and
helps teachers improve their instructional skills and address their immediate instructional issues.
Glickman (2010) views peer coaching as a supervisory approach that helps teachers "confide in,
improve and move with each other towards collective actions." In particular, peer coaching provides
a strong system of support as teachers seek to implement new strategies, examine practices, transfer
skills and put in–service learning in action. According to Zepeda (2010), peer coaching promotes
teacher's growth and development. Moreover, it leverages face–to–face interaction, thus, promoting
relationship building and strong collegiality towards collective improvement and institution
effectiveness. Supervisors using peer coaching as a clinical and differentiated form of supervision
break the isolation found in most k–12 and empower teachers by placing them at the center of their
own leaning (Zepeda, 2012). Teachers who participate in peer coaching are more secure and better
connected, and certainly, in a better position to solve their own instructional issues and problems, as
well as, find innovative ways to teach, thus benefiting themselves, their colleagues and their
institutions (Hooker, 2013).

73. The Importance Of Self-Efficacycy In Science
Within the profession of teaching, having a positive and enthusiastic approach within lessons has
repeatedly been proven to drastically impact on the learning that takes place in the classroom. A
teacher's efficacy has a vital influence on their own personal behaviour, beliefs and motivation with
their students and succeeding outcomes (Woolfolk & Hoy, 1990) having an individual interest and
motivation to make science a fun and engaging subject is key to its delivery in a lesson. With being
able to produce and organise a lesson that coincides with genuine positive attitudes towards students
and the lesson itself (Tschannen–Moran, Woolfolk Hoy, & Hoy 1998, p. 233), teacher efficacy
therefore has a major role in the development of students own self–efficacy and achievement in the
classroom (Midgley, Feldlaufer, & Eccles, 1989).
1. Teacher self–efficacy within science impacting on student's self–efficacy towards science.
Teachers have been proven to be more motivated in teaching a subject they feel comfortable
teaching rather than teaching and creating lessons on a subject they personally dislike or don't find
interesting/ important. The subject of science is not a subject many teachers feel efficacious when
teaching (Howitt, 2007). Despite two decades of research in the area Palmer (2011) pronounces that
lack of efficacy for teaching science is "still very much alive" (p. 2). Therefore, teachers lack in their
classrooms efficient amounts of science lessons and ideals that

The union and staff development committee were responsible for coming up with the different
policies for the teachers and their rights. The first policy that we were presented was about the
teachers and the union. In order to join the union the teachers will pay fifty dollars a month that will
give them many different benefits, there will also be staff meetings, and teacher appreciation week. I
feel that as a future educator this policy is extremely important in making sure that teachers are
successful. Being in a union has many benefits, not only the discounts but it also gives teachers
support and they are able to find help if they need it, it also provides a sense of unity by knowing
that they have someone behind them. Having staff meetings allows the teachers to be able to
collaborate with one another and collaboration is extremely important in making sure that the
students are being taught the same thing and it allows the teachers to talk about any problems they
may be having with teaching, whether something is not working or something is creating a problem
in their classroom. I feel that all of the parts of this policy benefit the teacher in making sure that
they have the support that they need and allows them to work out any problem that they are faced
with. The next policy is about teacher pay and where the pay should start at for Seeburger Heights

77. My Teaching : Teaching, And More Effective Collaboration...
Change is a part of life and I view myself as a life–long learner. I have frequently been called on to
change. Once again new ideas are presented on being an effective teacher and I will discuss how my
teaching will change as a result of this course. There are five areas of interest that I found will
elevate my teaching skills. I will briefly describe them as structure, groupings, instructional
strategies, the concept of linking assessment with teaching, and more effective collaboration with
my peers. The concept of differentiated learning is appealing to me and while going through my
internship, I experienced a differentiated kindergarten class. Children worked in different groupings
at the same time as the teacher worked with small groups or individuals. The students were given
and taught how to be responsible for their own learning at this young age. They worked on
problem–solving skills and were guided to think critically about themselves and what was
happening around them. It was delightful to be helping in this classroom. This experience coupled
with this course, EDU 570, has given me much information to ponder with respect to how a
differentiated music class would look like. I can see a performance based class, such as a grade three
general music classroom, look like this: Some students would work on rhythmic games to develop
basic rhythm reading, while others would already be composing with more complicated rhythms,
