7-STEP GUIDE FOR MODERATORS
In Blackboard Collaborate, Moderators lead the session. They have control over what functions are available or
unavailable to Participants, what content is covered, and how that content is delivered.
PREPARE YOUR COMPUTER
1. Check system requirements
Go to http://tinyurl.com/3gotox5. If your
computer isn’t prepared, follow the
instructions to meet the requirements
prior to your session.
2. Install Collaborate launcher
Go to
http://tinyurl.com/meeting-collab.
Follow the instructions of the launcher.
Open meeting.collab file in your
browser's Downloads folder to join the
demo session.
3. Test connection and settings
Use the demo session and follow the
steps listed: Click on the audio icon,
select your connection type, and visit
the On Demand training to get familiar
with the tools.
PREPARE FOR YOUR SESSION
4. Learn to use Collaborate
Go to http://tinyurl.com/uic-collab. Get familiar with the different
tools you can use while in a session, such as chat, poll
questions, screen share, and more. Learn how to record and
archive your session at http://tinyurl.com/record-collab.
5. Join or schedule your session
Open Collaborate from Course Tools in your Blackboard
Learn course site and join the Collaborate room at least
10 minutes before the start of the session. Run the Audio
Setup Wizard every time you start a new session. Have
your material and all files that you plan to share ready.
Close all unused applications in your computer.
CONDUCT YOUR SESSION
6. Enable the tools you want to use
At UIC all tools in Collaborate are unavailable by default. Click
the icon to enable them. Start the recording if you want to have
the session available for review. Erase any part of the
recording as needed.
7. Engage your participants
Welcome participants, share the agenda, and establish the
rules for collaboration during the session.
Use their names when asking questions. Use chat and
polls to request participation. Pause to allow interaction.
Create breakout rooms for team discussions.
