1. 6. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. We used various technologies during this project including
MacBook's, laptops, iMac’s, DSLR cameras, Lighting, memory
card adapters and Photoshop. Throughout the creation of my
product whilst on the laptops or iMacs I was able to use
various software such as Photoshop, Prezi, slide share,
PowToon's and sound cloud. We would then upload all of our
research onto blogger which is somewhat of a log or diary of
the work we have done for this project.
There are many positives’ advantages and negatives/
disadvantages created when using these technologies that I
will discuss.
3. There are various benefits to using these technologies. Firstly using MacBook's or
laptops allows us to easily upload work from different software's electronically to
the internet. Using Photoshop will allow us to create drastically more professional
looking products that software such as word would not be able to provide due to
limitations on different tools and other editing aspects.
However, there are still advantages to using software's such as word and
PowerPoint as they offer an extremely easy and accessible way of producing
documents that I can access both at home or at college. In addition to this others
such as PowToon's, Prezi and slide share allow us to create more interesting and
creative documents that can be accessed online at any time. They also show that e
can use a wide range of media which will boost our grades. Other software's apply
to this too such as sound cloud and YouTube.
Finally DSLR cameras allow us to take professional looking photographs with
professional angles and lighting which appears more natural thus making it easier to
edit.
4. I have used a range of tools when creating my product predominantly on
Photoshop where I came across various things which would allow me to make
professional edits to my magazine.
I used things such as the gradient tool which allowed to add a gradient or blended
coloured and professional background to my image easily instead of copying an
image. I used the shape tool to create puff/pugs and cover lines. I used the quick
select and magic wand tool so that I could intricately edit various sections of images
or background. I used the eraser tool to get rid of green screen from my images.
I used the text tool so I could add various text around my magazine including the
heading, cover lines and text to accompany either images or shapes. Finally, I used
the layer tool so that I could select, identify and organise different layers that I
could edit separately making the entire process quicker and easier.
5. There are also however various limitations or disadvantages to using these
technologies. For example using word and PowerPoint limits creativity and
professionalism when creating the magazine and a better alternative to this may be
Photoshop.
Other software's such as PowToon's also have there limitations as you can only use
up to 30 slides. It is also a lot more time consuming if you are trying to create slides
of a high standard.
Photoshop also has its limitations as the magic eraser tool sometimes doesn’t
remove what you want or in other cases too much. Another tool that is just as time
consuming is the selection tool and although it needs to be competed to a
professional standard taking too much time limits the amount you get done.
Lastly, using both Mac’s and laptops created a massive issue in terms of work being
saved as the Mac’s sometime got wiped or just wouldn’t save. This is very irritating
and resulted in many having to redo various work.
6. I would like to use a much more less time consuming editing soft
wear and equipment's. I would like to experiment with different
types of video cameras as well as widening my knowledge of
other online soft wears that I can use to create various
documents.
I would also like more time to use different tools on Photoshop
and get a wider understanding of the programme so I can create
the most professional looking product possible.
