Q2
1. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
2. In our media piece we didn’t have any ethnic diversity. This was mainly due to
the fact we couldn’t find any actors of various races so we decided to cast
ourselves. It is also not a big part of the theme of my film, as the genre
doesn’t need to tackle ethnic diversity.
If we had more resources we would be able to include more ethnic diversity
and have a multi race cast.
ETHNICITY
3. In our opening sequence we only had a male cast. This was because the main
characters are both male samurai and we decided to stick to the conventions
of feudal japan in which not many females were samurai.
However, we do show that men aren’t as strong willed as we think, as our
character has a mental conflict during the sequence. This goes against the
stereotype of male samurai being typically strong.
GENDER
4. Our film was aimed at teens to adults so we decided it would be best to have a
young cast. We couldn’t get any actors that were in their early adult years so
we had to use late teens to portray our characters.
In hindsight having very old actors would be a very good option as it would
bring a more traditional samurai master kind of feel to the sequence.
AGE
5. We didnt include religion in our sequence as it was completely irrelevant to the
theme of my film.
To properly represent religion we would need to include a lot of symbolism
and hidden meaning to portray the religious belief we would want to include
in the sequence.
