2. Name of Actor/Actresses
• The purpose of putting the name of the actors/actresses on
a film poster is obviously to inform the target audience of
who is in the film.
• Within some film posters, the name of a big actor/actress is
put on the poster in big capital letters to make sure the
audience know that the film will be good having that certain
actor/actress within it.
3. Title of the Film
• The title of the film is essential to informing the target
audience what the film is about.
• For example, the title ‘Scream’ will automatically inform
everyone of the genre of the film (horror).
• Also the font style of the title will let the audience know the
genre of the film.
• For example, the title ‘Scream’ has the letter M with sharp
corners in it informing the audience that this film is one of the
horror/thriller genre.
4. Eye Catching Images
• Eye catching images are arguably the most important
part of a film poster, as the audience should see images
that represent the film.
• The images above connote the film as a horror/thriller
genre as the facial expressions of the people show one
that is really scared and others that look very
mysterious/suspicious.
5. Critic Review
• A critics review builds up the film even more and therefore for
the film to be successful it needs a critics review.
• The review should also comment on the production of the film
why it is so good.
• The example above shows the film has done a good job of it’s
production, saying it is ‘clever’ and also done a good job of
connoting its genre, saying it is ‘scary’.
6. Tagline
• A tagline is normally in smaller font to the title and the
actors/actresses names. However, it is still important as it gives
the audience one line as the what the film is about.
• The example above informs the audience that this film will be
about a person who has ‘taken their love of scary movies one
step too far!’ and also tells them that this movie will be a scary
one.
7. Production Blurb
• Production blurb is arguably the least important in terms of
targeting an audience however it is a big convention of a film
poster.
• The production blurb should have all production companies within
it and also have all the writers/producers/directors of the film as
well.
