The document discusses several films and the psychological theories that can be applied to them. For the film Blue Bustamante, it summarizes that reinforcement theory can explain a character being convinced to take a new job, uncertainty reduction theory explains the relationship between two characters who don't speak the same language, and attribution theory explains a character's reaction to his father. For the film Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?, it suggests attribution theory can explain the journey of the main character Kulas from innocent to nationalist fighter.

BLUE BUSTAMANTE
The first theory I've noticed in the movie Blue Bustamante is reinforcement theory. The
theory appears when George was jobless and got the opportunity to be a stuntman. He was
hesitant at first because that wasn't what he flies for and it will hurt his pride if he will work for
what he thinks is less than an engineer. The reinforcement happens when his friend Roger tries to
convince him to shift into another job which is to become a senpai star. Roger supplied him
positive ideas about the job to make it appear OK for george, like "the job is fun." and "it suites
your body type, you will surely get the role". Then after a long deliberation Roger finally
convinced him to become Blue Force.
The second theory is uncertainty reduction theory; I notice this during the first
date/dinner between George and Ayumi. It is evidently during that scene that even it is their first
time to be together the uncertainty level is already reduced. Though they are, using two different
language and can't barely understand each other, you can see that they are enjoying each other's
company and you can see through their actions that they are comfortable with each other
specially Ayumi who is known to like George. The feeling of Ayumi to George reduced the
uncertainty level.
The third theory I noticed is attribution theory. This is about the way Kiko talk to his
father through the phone. So why Kiko acted that way? Well for me his situation contributes to
his action. Maybe the feeling of being left alone but his father causes him to give his father a
cold shoulder.
The last theory I got in the movie is social penetration theory. I think it is applicable
when Saito talked to George in English. It wasn't a casual talk, because Saito shared more about
himself and confess that he adore George's performance in the set. I think he tried to be friendlier
and build a deeper relationship than a co-worker to George but George felt a little awkward and
put on his defenses and permanent guard will limit the closeness these two people can achieve.
SHIFT( from the trailer)
From what I’ve seen, I can apply the theory social penetration. This theory is applicable
for every conversation(in the trailer) Stela did with Trevor. They both shared stories of them like
Trevor and his ex lady friend that used to have feelings for him and Stela’s story of her fell in
love with a “closeta” or closeted gay. Their every conversation creates a deeper relationship for
them and sooner they fell in love with each other.
2. GANITO KAMI NOON, PAANO KAYO NGAYON?
The 1975 movie "Ganito kami noon, Paano kayo ngayon?" shows a nationalistic theme in
most comedic and favorable way. The setting of the movie took its place during the Spaniard
colonialization and later on the American. The movie shows different faces of Filipinos, from the
innocent type to the future of the our kind. From the start of the film it already imposing to the
viewers that the real Filipino identity is missing or unidentified. "Who is the Filipino?" is
dominant problem of the movie, so I think the main message of the movie is that, it is a never
ending search for our own identity and we must fight for it no, matter what. The movie uses
Kulas to embody the waking up of our nationalistic spirit. Instead of choosing his well-off life he
rather chose to go to mountains and join the revolutionary group there.
The film portrayal of the Filipinos is diverse but bound in one problem. We saw different
types of Filipino in different persona like Kulas the innocent and always troubled, there is diding
the opportunist and gold-digger and then Don Tibor the greedy and user, these are just 3 relevant
figures in the movie. They are Filipino but in the movie there is no concrete definition of a
Filipino. Generally speaking, the movie shows that during that era the true Filipino identity is
stolen by colonialism and left the real Filipino with nothing not even their own identity, to the
extent that they don't even know what Filipino is. But the film also shows that there still
nationalist Filipino who is ready to fight for the real freedom and identity, for example "Kidlat"
Baltao and other Filipino hiding in the mountains secretly fighting the Spaniards and American
I think the applicable theory for this movie is attribution theory. The theory for me
explains the ending. The movie starts with the very innocent and orphan Kulas then at the ending
he ends up to be the opposite, he became a nationalist fighter. His whole journey contributes to
his present self. After what he been through like for example the death of his Chinese friend and
the abuse of Kidlat Baltao, these are just few situation from the story that might trigger his
revolutionary spirit. His troubled and violent journey made him into something that is near to his
experience.
