“Oh GOSH! Reflecting on Hackteria's Collaborative Practices in a Global Do-It...
Evaluation Q2 question
1. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. Howwe
represented
gender
In our piece we wanted to make sure that we represented
both genders equally. We wanted to make sure that both
male and female characters had an equal part and had
the same screen time to their counterpart. This is why,
we want an equal amount of time shown for both of them
throughout the film.
During our film opening though we had the problem that
only the man could really be shown. This was to setup
the story – as it would not have made much sense if the
audience was not properly introduced. This is why there
is only one clip of the female in the beginning.
3. Challengingthe
stereotype.
In our media production we wanted to challenge the
normal conventions that the male was the most powerful.
In our film the most powerful person was the female with
her IT powers.
This challenges normal conventions as stereotypically the
man is the most powerful and the strongest. We
challenge this as in our film the woman is the strongest
and most independent.
4. Who istelling
thestory?
Our story is originally being told from the prospective of
the female, however the film opening will be told from
the mans prospective.
We felt that as both of the characters were big characters
we wanted both of them to have an equal role in our
video. So at the beginning it will be told form the males
prospective, and as the film progresses it will switch to
the women – as we feel both the male and female should
have an equal role.
5. Howitlinksto
ourtarget
audience.
As our target audience is both male and female we
wanted to make sure that both genders would be
portrayed as equal. As we want both genders to relate to
the characters we wanted to make sure that both had
equal screen time.
This meant that both genders of our target audience
should relate somehow to the story being told and that
they can enjoy it. This maximizes the enjoyment of the
film for everyone.
