Proposal Presentation
       Cianne Conklin
If you had read all the
proposals prior to last evening,
 mine has recently changed.
Prior to last evening my proposal was about using what
students are interested in (specifically Music) to help them
learn about the history of artists, and relating it to their life
currently. Students would create a podcast of a song about
the artist as well as a piece of art. These pieces would be
parodies of a chosen original piece.
Examples of Mona Lisa
      Parodies

      Original by Leonardo daVinci
Examples of The Scream
       Parodies

      Original by Edvard Munch
I felt that this project seemed like
an average idea although it just
didn’t have enough connection to
the course we are all taking nor
did it have enough connection to
the students which is why we are
           all here. Right?
I decided to take advantage
of a situation that played out
at my school just last Friday.
Students were getting upset
        at the morning
  announcements because
      they were boring.
Students are attached to their
         electronic devices
And you know when students are excited to watch the
announcements when the teacher comes onto the intercom and
says “The announcements have been uploaded and are ready for
viewing” when they pull down the projector screen and turn off the
lights. Kind-of like when you were in school and the teacher rolled
in a television, and your eyes lit up, because you knew it was
movie day. Yet, once the announcements are finished, the
students are disappointed that they wasted a few minutes of their
day. They complain for the next few minutes and then they forget
about them until the next day, hoping for something better.

The Central Bobcats Media students are not stepping up to the challenge
of entertaining others or teaching them anything. This is why I am
  pursuing this project.
Instead of creating a learning
      environment where my
students learn, maybe I can do
it in all classrooms by getting
     them hooked to the daily
    announcements by using
creativity, critical thinking skills,
       and cross curricular
            connections.
As you just saw, the
 announcements are very dull.
My goal is create at least a
    once a week episode that
   students can watch in their
  home room class, to relearn
      certain strategies and
   curriculum they may have
already received to get them to
 start “Transferring” from class
Using students to help
teach certain strategies will
  also help themselves as
well as others as they will
   thrive to do their best.
Focusing on all curriculum
  from 9th to 12th grade.
Announcements would
          be…
Played every Wednesday during their Advisory period
(Home Room).

The Advisory Period is a period students can work on
homework, get help from tutors, talk to their teachers, etc.
Although it is not working as well as planned.

Because students use it as a free period. Time to play
games on their phones, check their Facebook, talk with
friends, etc.

Include a variety or interactive games, discussion
questions, cross curricular information, loaded with
visually appealing images, characters brought to life, and
contests etc.
Impact
This project will advance my professional agenda by
teaching all students, not only my own about my content
area as well as every other content area that we offer at
Central High School

I am hoping it will stretch the minds of our youth and help
them see the relation between one subject to another. Or
from outside of the school to inside of the school
Impact continued
Beyond this course I would like to continue these
announcements motivating students to learn everything
they can in every situation they are in.

I believe the audience that would be the most interested in
my project would be school administrators. Currently the
principal had told the teacher in charge of the
announcements, that he wants video announcements, but
like we said in class, teachers must not use technology
just to use it, they must use it to motivate and teach
students. Students must get something out of it if they are
going to utilize the medium in their classroom.
Course Connection
I believe that this project connects very well to the
materials we have covered in this course thus far.

“Instead of seeing the learner as an enduring, unchanging
mind that carries cognitive tools from one material setting
to another, Lave (1988) proposed that we should think
instead of learners as motivated, concerned, “jpf” (“just-
plain-folk”) always in social relations and practical
activities, in a social world designed to regularly produce
familiar circumstances.” -Packer

Packer states students go back to what they are familiar
with, what they know. In order to make this project
successful, I would like to create problems for students to
solve, using what they already know as a starting point.
Course connection
           continued
I also believe that the Completing Perspectives on Future
Learning has a huge influence on this project. I would like
to incorporate all perspectives in this project for all types
of learners. Didactic, Constructivist, and Cultural Views.

I am most looking forward to week 10 when we discuss
Motivation, Emotions, and Embodiment. I think those are
great key points in whether or not students succeed in the
first place.
Plan of Action
In the next two weeks, I hope to have some students on
board that would like to help teach other students
something they know or need to know well for a given
course.

I would like to focus on the Spring AIMS Math test which
falls on April 9th.

I would also like to have one episode in the works or
completed within the next two weeks. I have many ideas
to get it started, now I just must start!
Transferring knowledge from
 one situation to another using
technology equals SUCCESS!
How can you help?
What types of activities or strategies do you think would
help high school students?

Using this strategy once a week is a slight concern of
mine, do you think it will still work if it is not constantly
reinforced?
