IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Font of names
• I used this font for the tradition of the
horror/ mystery convention, the font
gave a sophisticated but simple feel to
this, I also used the colour white to
signify the colour of innocence. As it had
a ‘documentary’ style feel, I brought
ideas from other conventions and
wanted a clean cut and professional feel
to the font.
Lighting
• I used dark lighting to represent the
convention of horror, if I had bright
white lighting it wouldn’t have fit
with the ‘moody’ theme. From just
the lighting I got feedback from
someone they said ‘I instantly knew
it was scary, dark and moody’. From
this feedback I know I have
achieved the look of convention.
Props
The props fit the codes ands conventions of horror,
as most typical horror has blood and a brutal tool
of which they used to produce the blood and kill
the victim, whereas a thriller would typically be a
gun. It is brutal and makes the audience Squamish.
It also identifies clearly for the audience in my film
that it is a horror, as the ‘interviews’ isn’t very clear,
and doesn’t identify as a horror straight away.
Title of the film
The title of the film really represents the films
genre, I chose the font Linux Libertine because
this represents the type of horror theme I
going for. It sophisticated which represents the
girls in the film who try to act older than their
age. However their immature actions are
represented by the burgundy colour red which
not only symbols blood but the evil that the
girls have inside them.
Location
I chose to film the lockers and school hall way to
clearly identify the age range of the film and
where it is set. I chose to edit it after the interviews
so that it created a narrative enigma for the
audience, this meant that they wanted to carry on
watching the film to find out the background of
the girls and were intrigued in what happened.
Location
I also filmed this part of the school to emphasis
the part of the school theme so the audience
knows the background of the girls and where
they come from. It also sets up the film for where
its primarily set later on.
Costume
I asked the actors to just come in their normal
clothes they would wear to a normal day at
college. So this would relate to their character I
was asking them to play (which I chose based on
their personalities) the costumes were a
representation of them and their personalities. As
we can see Jemima is wearing white top which
shows her innocence but by the low cut top it
reveals that she has a deeper side to her.
Transitioning and editing
Although its difficult to see I have used fade
transitioning to show my title at 1.03 minuets, I
used this to show my film title, also the titles show
there are repercussions to their actions.
Actors
Having a authortive figure conforms to the
school conventions of having a teaching,
and also conforms to the fact that he
doesn’t care or know much about his
students. The ways he speaking in a slow
monotone voice shows he doesn’t care that
much and doesn’t take any fast immediate
action.
Editing
I left the screen at the end of the two minuets
blank for a few seconds with the music playing for
a long it really fits into the suspense building of
the genre. Therefore this tells the audience there
is a lot more to come of the film.
Comparison
I got the inspiration for the ‘documentary’ / ‘interview’ filming from the film To die for. As you can see Nicole
Kidman was being “interviewed” about the evil crime she has committed to her victim. I used this because she
is breaking the fourth wall and looking straight into the camera which gives the affect of looking into the
audiences eyes, therefore sends chills down their spines and creates tension and really shows the different
emotions on all of my characters. This means that the audience can see raw emotion it also was really good I
chose very good actors who could portray these emotions.

As it had a ‘documentary’ style feel, I brought ideas from other conventions and wanted a clean cut and professional feel to the font. Lighting • I used dark lighting to represent the convention of horror, if I had bright white lighting it wouldn’t have fit with the ‘moody’ theme. From just the lighting I got feedback from someone they said ‘I instantly knew it was scary, dark and moody’. From this feedback I know I have achieved the look of convention.

Props The props fit the codes ands conventions of horror, as most typical horror has blood and a brutal tool of which they used to produce the blood and kill the victim, whereas a thriller would typically be a gun. It is brutal and makes the audience Squamish. It also identifies clearly for the audience in my film that it is a horror, as the ‘interviews’ isn’t very clear, and doesn’t identify as a horror straight away. Title of the film The title of the film really represents the films genre, I chose the font Linux Libertine because this represents the type of horror theme I going for. It sophisticated which represents the girls in the film who try to act older than their age. However their immature actions are represented by the burgundy colour red which not only symbols blood but the evil that the girls have inside them.
  • 4. Location I chose to film the lockers and school hall way to clearly identify the age range of the film and where it is set. I chose to edit it after the interviews so that it created a narrative enigma for the audience, this meant that they wanted to carry on watching the film to find out the background of the girls and were intrigued in what happened. Location I also filmed this part of the school to emphasis the part of the school theme so the audience knows the background of the girls and where they come from. It also sets up the film for where its primarily set later on.
  • 5. Costume I asked the actors to just come in their normal clothes they would wear to a normal day at college. So this would relate to their character I was asking them to play (which I chose based on their personalities) the costumes were a representation of them and their personalities. As we can see Jemima is wearing white top which shows her innocence but by the low cut top it reveals that she has a deeper side to her. Transitioning and editing Although its difficult to see I have used fade transitioning to show my title at 1.03 minuets, I used this to show my film title, also the titles show there are repercussions to their actions.
  • 6. Actors Having a authortive figure conforms to the school conventions of having a teaching, and also conforms to the fact that he doesn’t care or know much about his students. The ways he speaking in a slow monotone voice shows he doesn’t care that much and doesn’t take any fast immediate action. Editing I left the screen at the end of the two minuets blank for a few seconds with the music playing for a long it really fits into the suspense building of the genre. Therefore this tells the audience there is a lot more to come of the film.
  • 7. Comparison I got the inspiration for the ‘documentary’ / ‘interview’ filming from the film To die for. As you can see Nicole Kidman was being “interviewed” about the evil crime she has committed to her victim. I used this because she is breaking the fourth wall and looking straight into the camera which gives the affect of looking into the audiences eyes, therefore sends chills down their spines and creates tension and really shows the different emotions on all of my characters. This means that the audience can see raw emotion it also was really good I chose very good actors who could portray these emotions. TO DIE FOR
