This document provides a lesson plan for an English class focusing on shapes and volumes for students aged 10-13. The lesson uses art-oriented activities to develop students' English skills. It has two parts: the first has students finding shapes in textures and the second has them drawing organic shapes inspired by music. Students will actively participate by creating art, analyzing shapes, and discussing their work. The goal is to stimulate students' creativity, build confidence using English and art, and have them find joy in abstract concepts.
Shaping music into bi and tree dimensional forms LS RO1
1. DEVELOPING ENGLISH THROUGH ART ORIENTED ACTIVITIES
LESSON PLAN, THEME: SHAPES AND VOLUMES
School: “Carmen Sylva” College of Art, Ploiesti, Romania
Grades: lower secondary, 10 to 13 years old
Unit: “”Shaping” music into bi and three dimensional forms”

Lessontype: transdisciplinary lesson (fine art + music)
Lessonobjectives:

Time: 50 + 50 minutes
Motivation:
Q: What is a shape? What describe a shape? How can we tell where a shape begin or end? What
shapes can we create using sounds?
A: we can see shape all around us, the whole world is a mixture of shape which is distinguished
by light and shadow, by colors, by edges or textures.
2. In order to stimulate our imagination and develop our creativity we can play a game of seeking
or hiding shapes following the rhythm of music.
If we use an already painted surface (or painted by ourselves) with all kind of mixed colors, in
abstract way, let it dry, after that, using colored pencils with a strong color we should try to find
resemblance in resulted forms. If we look carefully we may have lovely surprises and discover
animals, leaves, flowers, dragons. (Playing hide and seek with shapes will give you lot of joy and
put your imagination to work!)
Materials: a square piece of paper - 10x10 cm , ruler , sticker , pins , scissor , colored pencils ,
polystyrene.
Music inspiration: “Bolero” – Maurice Ravel
