2. THE EXTERNAL EAR, THE MIDDLE EAR
AND THE INNER EAR.
The organs of hearing (phonoreceptors) in man are a pair of
ears situated on the head. Ears are also the organs of
balancing. The ear consists of three basic parts-
3. THE EXTERNAL EAR
It consists of- pinna, external auditory canal,
tympanum.
Pinna collect sound waves and funnels it
through the ear canal to the ear drum.
External auditory meatus is a fairly deep
passage from the ear hole down to the tympanic
membrane.
Tympanic membrane or ear drum is a delicate
membranous structure that vibrates in response
to the sound waves tapping on its outer surface.
4. THE MIDDLE EAR
Middle ear embedded in cranial bone has an
air filled cavity called tympanic cavity.
Eustachian tube is a passage connecting the
middle ear with the pharynx.
Middle ear consists of three tiny bones called
ear ossicles that vibrate in response to the
vibrations of the ear drum.
Three ear ossicles are- malleus, incus,
stapes.
5. THE INNER EAR
Consists of bony labyrinth and membranous
bony labyrinth.
Bony labyrinth consists of vestibules and
cochlea.
