Environmental Impact Assessment Report
Introduction
Environmental Impact Assessment is very advanced process of forecasting influence on environment of planned operation, in this case– High Speed 2.
It is crucial to do EIA before any construction works commence, it will allow designers to change or improve the project in order to minimise negative
consequences of it.
This paper include analyse of main environmental issues, such as: impact on agriculture, forestry and soils; air quality; climate, community, cultural
heritage, ecology, land quality, visual effects, noise/vibration, waste material resources and water resources/ flood risk.
Abstract
Environmental impact assessment is the formal mechanism used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To decide which of procedures is the most relevant to particular environmental effect– professional judgment must be made.
Afterwards, draft of Environmental Statement can be prepared and publicly consulted. Then final version of ES can be formed.
Environmental impact:
EIA covers all issues listed below:
Agriculture, Forestry and Soils: such as: farming and other rural enterprises, farm buildings, related land use and woodland planting, ancient woodlands;
The designers assures, that good quality agricultural soil will be stripped prior to construction and stored appropriately for future use.
Owners and operators of affected agricultural holdings will be entitled to receive compensation for any losses that HS2 will cause.
Air Quality: this section applies to dust and emissions/pollutants related to construction and operational traffic.
Inventors guaranteed that the railway will operate efficient, non–polluting (at source) electrically powered trains to minimise air pollution.
Community: general effects on residential property, community facilities and communities as a whole: e.g. effects on public footpaths, bridleways,
parks and gardens. Temporary presence of construction workers;
All homes which are located close to the planned route have already lost 40 per cent of their value, some of them will be demolished due to the
project, but the HS2 Ltd. assures that all

California Department Of Transportation ( Caltrans ) Essay
Thank you for providing the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) the opportunity to review and comment on the Initial Study and
Notice of Preparation of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the City of Colton Roquest Ranch Specific Plan (Project), located west of La
Cadena Drive and north of Center Street in the City of Colton. The project proposes to develop the 336.2–acre site with up to 1,050 residential
dwelling units, 1.2 acres of neighborhood commercial use, 22.3 acres of recreational open space, 199.7 acres of open space, a 0.8–acre fire station site,
and a 10.3–acre school site.
As the owner and operator of the State Highway System (SHS), it is our responsibility to coordinate and consult with local jurisdictions when proposed
development may impact our facilities. As the responsible agency under the California Environmental Quality Act, it is also our responsibility to make
recommendations to offset associated impacts with the proposed project. Although the project is under the jurisdiction of the City of Colton, due to the
project's potential impact to the State facilities, including Interstate 10, Interstate 215, State Route 60, and State Route 91, it is also subject to the
policies and regulations that govern the SHS.
In the preceding Environmental Impact Report (EIR), we recommend a scoping meeting prior to the preparation of the Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA)

Analysis Of Kelo V. City Of New London
Taking is by means which the federal or state governments can enforce eminent domain or condemnation of your land or your land rights through just
compensation, and fair market value, for public purposes. Meaning, that the government can physically acquire said property for public use or purpose
and regulate the use or the manner in which the property is currently controlled. In the below case, Kelo v. City of New London, the term public use is
loosely related to public purpose, as the focus was on economic growth for the area, to provide for increased taxes, and even additional employment
opportunities. The overall benefits were to the public, but at a cost, who 's cost, the current standing residents required change, by means of uprooting
there families and moving. More takings have occurred in the past decade that have benefited private individuals and large corporations that essentially
provide more monetary gains to the economy rather than for general public use. The land taken for private benefit has primarily been that of
low–income and minority individuals. (Beideman 2007, p.273) Essentially, taking from the poor to empower and strengthen the rich under the guise of
economic growth and economic gain.

The Environmental Impact Assessment On The Environment
NON – TECHNICAL SUMMARY
The Environmental Impact Assessment is an ongoing process in terms of environmental and social considerations that places in a high priority the
conservation and the enhancement of the natural environment. EIA is defined as the study of the effect prediction of a proposed projct on the
environment. In addion, it may be described as a tool which helps to make an important decision comparing many alternative plans for a project and
seeks to find the best solution combining all the financial and environmental costs and benefits. The EIA is based on integrity, utility and sustainability.
2. DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING ENVIRONMENT
2.1 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
MegaCorp company is responsible for the exploration of the WA–418–P field. For this reason , the company evaluated four options in order to choose
the most notable option, considering other significant factors that influenced its duty such as socioeconomic, healthy , safety, existing and biophysical
environment and many environmental challenges of the project. The options are :
1.Gravity Based System (GBS)

Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia)
TITLE – Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), it 's introduction, purpose, methods of EIA, EIA conducted in India, Environmental Impact
Statement(EIS).
INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION :
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the
environment, together consisting of the environmental, social and economic aspects.
PURPOSE :
The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a
project. The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) defines an environmental impact assessment as "the process of identifying,
predicting, evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the methods are GMP–RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic– EIA methods need specific parameters and variables to be measured to
estimate values of impact indicators. However many of the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality,
lifestyle quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the impacts we may need to take the help of
information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate,
systematically, fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic approach.[9]
At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to
those that were predicted. The main objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main considerations are:
scientific – to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management– to assess the success of mitigation in reducing impacts.
Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses. While some believe in a simpler approach where

A Brief Note On Golf's Environmental Impact
Under Par: Golf 's Environmental Impact
Owners of golf courses are currently facing challenges which threaten their very existence. Whether it is from a dwindling participation rate, water
shortages, or environmental concerns due to fertilizer and pesticide runoff, courses must adapt their strategy for a new reality. It is clear from statistics
that participation in golf is dwindling which will threaten the existence of golf courses. Coupled with an increased awareness of the impact on the
environment, this could prove to be an insurmountable obstacle if golf courses are not quick to adapt. In states such as California and Texas,
drought conditions have forced communities to look at the significant water usage of golf courses in order to reduce unnecessary consumption.
Another significant cause for concern is the effect of pesticide and fertilizer runoff on the local watershed. Clearly there are very real and
sometimes devastating effects when the pesticides and fertilizers used by golf courses find their way into unintended areas such as lakes, rivers and
ponds. However, it is not all bad news for golf courses. There are positive environmental impacts such as preserving a home for birds and other
animals, reducing urban sprawl, and the growth of vegetation and trees. These challenges facing golf course owners are very real, and in order to
continue to attract players and avoid costly legislation, golf courses must embrace water conservation efforts, reduce their release of

Airport Environmental Impact And Legislation
Airport Environmental Impact and Legislation
Overview
Airports impact their local communities in a wide variety of ways. As an employer, large, international airports can help local economies thrive
financially with employment opportunities for area residents. Even smaller municipal airports "give back" to the local community in the form of tax
revenue from fuel sales, airplane property taxes, and in the case of land–lease arrangements, hangar property taxes. Further, airports can (and typically
do) impact the environment around them. Airport operators are mandated by federal and state guidelines on areas such as erosion mitigation, pollution
prevention, and to fuel spill prevention, and are bound even further to protect the local ecology and reduce the impact on wildlife, flora, and
endangered species (Horonjeff, 2010). Airports must be prepared to respond to any potential environmental disaster. This is accomplished through
action plans developed at the state and local levels, such as a Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures Plans.
Environmental Impact
There are significant rules and regulations placed on airports that deal with the environment. One widely referred to document is Federal Aviation
Administration Order 5050.4B, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Implementing Instructions for Airport Projects (DOT, 2006). Procedures
contained within this instruction are mandatory, and airport operators are legally

The Importance Of Comprehensive Site Investigations And...
The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA accredited auditor can be seen in the court case
Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental & Earth Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the
local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards. A condition of the consent was that an auditor
accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed decontamination.
A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for residential use, and the sale of the service station was
completed relying on the report. The contract of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current business
zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not
signed it off.
The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority that the site posed significant risk of harm to human
health and the environment because of contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down slope. Work
stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had
validated the site, as required by its development consent.

Environmental Impact Assessment: Identifying the...
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is 'the process of decision making by identifying the potentially significant environmental effects and risks of
a project'. Environmental impact analysis is one of the stages of an EIA (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). Environmental impact analysis is a process of
providing decision makers with an indication of the likely consequences of their action (Wathern, 2013). This stage comprises impact identification and
determination of the significance of the impacts. Impact identification is the process of illustrating cause and effect relationship of a project activities
and key environmental aspects. It needs a systematic expert knowledge and judgment (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). In this study, key environmental...

It is the process of identifying the impacts of the two processing units (Fig 1) by showing the cause and effect relationship, and analyzing and defining
which impacts are significant and require further attention and controlling mechanisms. Similarly, identifying criteria are necessary to determine the
significance of impacts. According to Sadler and McCabe (2002 impact is characterized by the nature, magnitude, spatial extent, timing, duration,
reversibility, likelihood, frequency and mitigation potential. Such criteria characterize all types of impacts in general. Since the study focused on local
scale, six criteria were adopted from Kumar & Armani (2012) to compare and judge the impacts that was identified during impact identification (Table

cause and effect relationship, and analyzing and defining which impacts are significant and needs further attention and controlling mechanisms. It is

The Environmental Impact Of The Environmental Movement...
Environmental Movement Report
Before the 1960s, environmentalism mainly focused on conservation of resources and the wilderness and was apparent through Theodore Roosevelt's
creation of five National Parks, one hundred fifty National Forests and about two hundred thirty acres of land set aside for conservation. In the 1960s,
the environmental movement was really able to garner support as it was during many other movements such as Civil Rights, Peace, and Women's.
Many consider the spark for environmentalism to be Rachel Carson's Silent Spring (1962), which exposed the harmful effects of pollutants such as
DDT on the environment and the public. While minute amounts of DDT cause little to no harm to the organisms that are affected, as DDT moves up
the food chain, it becomes more and more concentrated. A generally accepted value is that for each level up in the food chain, the concentration of
pollutants increases by a thousand times. The effects of Silent Spring cannot be overestimated. As people began to become more informed about
pollution, more people demanded that the federal government take action. The environmental movement then grew to encompass global warming, clean
air, energy, the ozone layer, and also pollution. These concerns were vocalized in the very first Earth Day that occurred on April 22, 1970 and was
established by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson. A group of twenty million Americans, all coming from vastly different backgrounds, celebrated

Environmental Impact Of The California Of Marine Animals...
On January 28, 1969 there was a well blow–out which occurred during drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel in Sothern California, an estimated 80,000
to 100,000 barrels of crude Oil was spilled into the channel and its surrounding, this incident caused significant impact of the ecological composition of
the system, thousands of marine animals were killed and biodiversity was distorted. The Santa Barbara oil spill and the already growing environmental
interests in the 1960s led to the enactment of the National Environmental Policy Act on January 1, 1970, its purpose was to promote the enhancement of
the environment, and it required executive federal agencies to prepare environmental impact statements (EISs) and environmental assessment (EAs) ...

These actions are defined at 40 CFR 1508.18. The environmental review under NEPA can involve three different levels of analysis:
1.Categorical Exclusion determination (CATEX)
2.Environmental Assessment/Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI)
3.Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2017) "Since the passage of the National Environmental
Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), federal agencies have been required to consider the potential environmental consequences of their actions, and to bring the
public and other stakeholders into their decision making process. NEPA has been critical to meeting the environmental goals this Nation has set for
itself" (Larson, Hess, D 'Avanzo, Stanley, & Sumpter, 2015).
One of the case studies highlighted by U.S. Department of Transportation 's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is the reconstruction of
Interstate 29 Fargo, North Dakota. The Interstate 29, spreads from Kansas City, Missouri to the border between US and Canada in the state of North
Dakota, it is a corridor for local and International trade and transportation while there were some underdeveloped agricultural lands adjacent to it.
The project consisted of the improvement of the roadway capacity and level of service, improvement of access to and from the interstate, improvement
of roadway access / continuity, replacement of deficient pavements, across the interstate as it was considered in a poor state.

Coal : Environmental And Environmental Impacts Of Coal
Environmental Impacts of Coal According to researchers Armstrong & Menon (1998), coal is a major energy source, constituting 25% of energy
consumption worldwide (21% in the United States) and 40% of electricity generation worldwide (45% in the United States). Coal accounts for 40% of
anthropogenic CO2 emissions and is therefore a major contributor to climate change (Armstrong & Menon, 1998). Coal can be produced through
surface or underground mining both dangerous operations for workers. Injuries occur from falling rocks, falls into mine shafts, misuse of machinery,
gas inhalation, explosions, floods, and cave ins. Respiratory exposures to silica dust and coal dust place miners at risk of silicosis and coal workers'
pneumoconiosis. Miners also suffer an excess risk of lung cancer. Other occupational hazards include dangerous levels of heat and noise. Armstrong &
Menon (1998), also claims that many modern coal mines involve mountaintop removal and strip mining, which result in ecological damage, stress
nearby communities, increase the risk of mudslides, and contaminate water sources with waste emissions. After being mined, coal is processed and
transported to power stations, factories, and other points of use. Armstrong & Menon (1998), explains that processing results in occupational hazards,
including dust exposure, noise, ergonomic hazards, & carcinogen exposure. Implementing of the MINER Act within policies and regulations will give

The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment
Throughout history, the environment around our society has played a large role and has had serious implication on the very existence of humans.
From war, peace migration, population growth, disease, along with the rise and fall of many civilizations mother nature has been right along for the
ride through the prosperity and as well as the hardship. The environmental problems that occur have been happening due to natural occurrences, but
recently since the age of the Industrial Revolution human activity has become a large factor in the increased problems that are present, and the
implications of our consequences are hurting not only the environment but also us in turn. The major environmental issues cause by humans are loss in
biodiversity, deforestation, ocean pollution, water scarcity and climate change. The different environmental issues that are brought up with human
activity are intense and sometimes the effects are not seen immediately but they do have an effect on the surrounding environment. First, I will
elaborate one the different issues and explain what they include. The first being Biodiversity, which is known as the "The variety of life, typically
expressed in terms of species richness." (Bolen 2010). This includes both biotic and abiotic factors in the natural world that thrive. The second issue
present is that of deforestation which is the action of clearing an area of trees, which could range anywhere from a small piece of land to a large area.

be to introduce a system that creates a maximum consumption limit per month. The government would allow a certain amount of clothing to be

for the future of sustainability. This solution would require immense changes to our economy, but we will not have an economy for long if we do not

They may check on the tag what country it came from, but they will never know the environmental impacts that occurred in that region to create the

consumption high. If changes are to be made to the clothing industry, consumers will have to become more aware of the sectors flawed practices.
Although most customers are unaware of the flaws of the clothing industry, some consumers are and do not care enough to act in a sustainable
manner. The consumers lack care due to a combination of things. First off, consuming more clothing does not affect their day to day lives in a
negative manner. These people have the mentality that if it does not affect me, it does not matter. One article articulates this lack of concern by
millennial consumers perfectly, "They may care deeply about eating organic foods, but fast fashion consumption is exempt from such moral decisions.
This approach can in part be explained by the fact that youthful consumers may fail to fully grasp issues of sustainability, in particular the disastrous
future of environmental risks associated with unsustainable production" (World Financial Review). As we can see from this editorial, consumers are
willing to buy organic products because they believe it will have a positive effect on their health. Clothing on the other hand is a

Impact Of Environmental Communication On Public Sphere On...
Title: Impact of Environmental Communication in Public Sphere on Urban Youth in Gujarat 1 Introduction Environment has attained centrality in the
national and international arena in the past few decades. The primary reason for this has been environmental degradation as a consequence of varied
socio–economic, institutional and technological factors. The need for sensitisation is imperative and which can be substantially achieved through
legislation and communication. Communication designs of environmental issues influence public awareness, opinion, and action. Environmental
awareness or the subsequent lack thereof, have been on a rise for a while now with rise in population, changing political ideologies, increased private
investments and overall privatisation and a dominant enshrining of the pro–development philosophy of the West. With such tendencies, as humans
grow in number, so does the dependency on nature and the lookout for space, an insatiable cycle of production and consumption commences and with
this, the Earth – our primary producer is reduced to commodity status. In a world dominated by human beings, where often the rights of the natural
world and of animals dependent on it, are trampled upon, communication can play an important role in providing a channel for expression, discussion
and action. Industrialisation continues to displace indigenous people on a large scale level resulting in various grassroots movements, all in the name
of development. People

The Environmental Impacts Of Costa Rica
Just like other countries, Costa Rica was a victim to deforestation and other environmental degradation in the past. Now, however, Costa Rica is
widely known for the preservation of its forests, wildlife, and the overall well–being of the environment of its pristine country. The government of
Costa Rica realized the issues of the environmental degradation they had caused and pledged to never go back. Now, Costa Rica is one of the biggest
leaders in the "green" movement. The governmental agency SETENA, has helped Costa Rica's eco–preservation. SETENA is the Costa Rican National
Environmental Office. SETENA stands for, "SecretarГa TГ©cnica Nacional Ambiental" which translates to "National Environmental Technical
Secretariat". The purpose of this agency is to address the environmental impacts from development and building. The main mission of SETENA is to
carry out a reliable process of assessing environmental impact, delivering a trustworthy service, so that proper decisions can be made by state
institutions. What SETENA wants is to be one of the leading institutions that can guarantee society that development can and will take place in
harmony with the environment. When a new business is to be established, it is a requirement to get approval from SETENA. However, the process is
rather time–consuming and frustrating for people who would like to build a residential establishment. During 2010, SETENA was intervened by the

Environmental Impact Of Personal Lifestyle Essay
Environmental Impact of Personal Lifestyle: Behavior # 1 A major lifestyle behavior of mine that effects the environment is the over usage of
water. Water waste is a problem for many people in their households. We can start conserving in our homes which most of our water is wasted
daily and we do not pay attention to it. Water is used for daily activities such as taking a shower, brushing teeth, washing the dishes, etc. My
personal problem is over usage in the shower, I like to take at least a 30 minute shower. Another major problem is when I let the water run when I
am brushing my teeth. Environmental Impact of Personal Lifestyle: Behavior # 2 For many years I have contributed to biodegradables that end up
in landfill sites. I have been continuously purchasing water bottles my whole life. Plastic is used almost everywhere, I have been using plastic bags
when I go grocery shopping and I have never tried to get reusable bags. Environmental Impact of Personal Lifestyle: Behavior # 3 Commuting is also
one of the many problems that contribute to environmental pollution. Every day I commute to work and school, I add more greenhouse gases into the
environment. Air pollution is a major problem and cars are a big cause of it. My commute is not that far it is about 20 miles from Glendale to
Northridge, but this accumulates over time and can be harmful for our air quality. Long–Term Environmental Consequences: Behavior # 1 There are
many proven disadvantages by wasting water.

Introduction
This paper will present an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) of a proposed construction project of a new recycling center in a rural area. The
proposed project is to be built in a nonattainment area. The EIS will address land–use and development, social and neighborhood effects, economic
factors, air quality, noise, and water resources as it relates to the proposed project. Included in the process will be three alternatives as well as a no
build alternative. The Environmental Impact Statement will provide a detailed scoping of the project along with the alternatives that will ensure all
potential impacts are addressed prior to project approval.

Land–use concerns are one of the most important factors that must be addressed when proposing a project of this magnitude. Community involvement
and feedback is essential to determining the overall effects the proposed project will have on the community. According to Marriott (1997) "the analysis
and adoption of comprehensive or land–use plans are one of the most interactive types of environmental impact assessment studies and can involve
many factions of the affected community." Analyzing community concerns regarding land–use will be of significant importance.
The proposed recycling center would be located in a rural area that has many farms and consists of numerous waterways. The population is medium in
size and spread throughout the area. Most of the farms divert water from the waterways for their crops and several unincorporated towns use the water
for non–potable use. The towns get their drinking water from the ground water via wells. There is one two–lane highway that runs through the area
linking several small towns and the adjacent farms.

An Environmental Impact Assessment For The Queensferry...
1.0Scope of Project
1.1 Background
An environmental impact assessment for the Queensferry Crossing Bridge has been a topic of discussion for a while because of the concern about the
future of the Forth Road Bridge. The new cable–stayed Queensferry Crossing bridge doesn't aim to replace The Forth Road bridge but co–exist parallel
to it.
1.1.2Introduction to Project
In 2009, transport for Scotland submitted the 'Forth crossing bill', the scheme is being taken forward in accordance with a policy memorandum. The
queens ferry crossing will be built instead of repairing the current forth road bridge. Repairing the current bridge will take between 7 and 9 years,
without an alternative crossing, sustained disruption of traffic will have a significant effect. The queens ferry crossing will provide two lanes in each
direction, replacing road provisions for general traffic, increased travel growth will need to be satisfied by public transport.
The estimated cost of the scheme is between ВЈ1.325–ВЈ1.35 billion. New technology will be implemented for the queen's ferry crossing; it will be
more climate resistant than the current bridge. Key feature of the new bridge include:
Use of the latest, more durable materials
Cables that are easier to replace, replacement can be done during normal maintenance work, the bridge doesn't get shut
dehumidification system inside the box girder, decrease corrosion damage

Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia)
TITLE – Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), it's introduction, purpose, methods of EIA, EIA conducted in India, Environmental Impact
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experience in India indicates that the lack of timely availability of reliable and authentic environmental
data has been a major bottle neck in achieving the full benefits of EIA. The environment being a multi–disciplinary subject, a multitude of agencies is
involved in collection of environmental data. However, there is no single organization in India which tracks the data available amongst these agencies
and makes it available in one place, in a form and manner required by practitioners in the field of environmental impact assessment in India. Further, the
environmental data is not available in value added forms that can enhance the quality of the EIA. This in turn adversely affects the time and efforts
required for conducting the environmental impact assessments (EIAs) by project proponents and also timely environmental clearances by the
regulators. With this background, Environmental Information Centre (EIC) has been set up to serve as a professionally managed clearing house of
environmental information that can be used by MoEF, project proponents, consultants, NGOs and other stakeholders involved in the process of
environmental impact assessment in India. EIC caters to the need of creating and disseminating of organized environmental data for various
developmental initiatives all over the country.
EIC stores data in GIS format and makes it available to all

introduction
Eco–design is an way of design the product with special consideration for the environmental impacts of the product during its whole lifecycle. Within
the present economic, marked by the phenomenon worldwide process, by the awareness of the existence of interdependence between environment and
progress, we are become part of the increase of the society 's exigencies regarding the environment protection, exigencies made known by more and
more severe regulations. Forced by these regulations, and taking into account the greater significance of the ecological criteria when it comes to
classifying products and services, on the market, under the circumstances of a diversified and extremely dynamic offer, more and more organizations
are preoccupied with improving their own environment performances. To this purpose, there are organizations that allocate significant amounts of their
investment funds, which favours the research–development approach of those environmental friendly processes and products.
Nowadays, the quality philosophy replaces the quality myth. It is obviously not or the product and service quality that is brought into discussion here,
but also the relationship quality with the objects, the quality of the personnel, their intellectual and cultural life, and the environment quality, as

The matrix comprises the environmental components found in a given study area, listed along both axes of the matrix: the cells then represent possible
linkages between the components. This is illustrated in Figure . The analyst codes those cells where a direct link exists a "1", the other cells have a
"0". On multiplying the matrix by itself, the resultant matrix indicates those components that can be reached within one (direct link) or two (indirect
link) steps from another component. Further matrix multiplication can identify 3–, 4–, 5–step links between the environmental components. Table:

Body Care Products and their Impacts Essay
Body care products. We use them every day. On our hair, on our body, on our face. And, sometimes but not often, we think about the environmental,
ethical and social impacts it has. Nowadays, it's a standardised idea that it is extremely important to take in these factors when choosing and
purchasing products; however, is it really as important as it is portrayed to be? To come to a conclusion as to whether or not it is important to think
about the environmental, social and ethical impacts when buying a product, both sides shall be discussed.
The environment is probably one of the most debatable subjects around right now. And yet another debatable aspect about the impact on the
environment is related to the body products. One must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chemicals used and the consequences related to them are similar to those stated above. Another factor where body products endanger the
environment is when it comes to packaging. Statistics show that in fact body products make up a third of all landfill waste. The packaging being non
bio–degradable is left lying in landfills, waiting for hundreds of years to break down. With enough threats to the environment, is there really need to
worsen its condition even more? As can be seen above, the environmental impact of body products is quite profound. Body products that go into the
ocean can also cause dangerous consequences to the eco–system, especially to the organism living there. Even the packaging of body products affects
the environment. Therefore, the environmental impacts should be taken seriously when choosing a body care product.
Yet, some are still doubtful. They think that perhaps they are part of a scheme to scare people with over–exaggerated statistics and dangers. Some
believe we are being too paranoid and easily swayed by what we hear. So are we creating needles worries and stirring a storm out of nothing? Before,
we jump to conclusions too quickly by drawing conclusions from things we hear; we should see the concrete evidence first. Although there has been
lots of research, nothing has been 100% confirmed nor are they extremely certain the effects are caused by the body care

Environmental And Social Impacts Of New And Remanufactured...
3. Results and discussion
In this section the proposed approach is applied to a case study. In the case study, environmental and social impacts of new and remanufactured diesel
engines are assessed.
3.1 Goal definition, scoping and functional unit
The engines are produced and used in China. Each engine consists of 277 components made of cast iron, steel, aluminium, steel alloy and rubber. The
major components are cylinder block, cylinder head, fly wheel housing, gear box, connection rod, crankshaft, and flywheel. Those components account
for 66% of the engine mass.
The system boundary for the new engine includes steel production, cast iron production, aluminium production, electricity production, engine
manufacturing and assembly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The functional unit of the study is 300,000 km travelled by the diesel engine. The fuel efficiency of the engine is 0.250 litres per km. It is assumed
that the fuel efficiency of both engines is equal.
3.2 Life cycle inventory
In order to estimate the amount of resources required and emissions released to produce steel, cast iron, and aluminium, inventory data published by
[11] is utilized. To compute emissions released by electricity production, China's electricity generation life cycle inventory found in [12] is used. To
calculate resources consumed and emissions produced due to diesel fuel refinery and combustion, data presented in [13] and [14] are applied.
For the social aspect, based on the information provided by the manufacturer, data summarized in Table 1 is obtained. Note that Rmfg stands for
remanufactured. For the use phase, cost incurred due to diesel fuel consumption is calculated as the following, 300,000 km Г— 0.25 litre/km Г—
7.724 CNY/litre = 579,315 CNY. 7.72 CNY/litre was the average price of diesel fuel in China in 2013. CNY stands for Chinese Yuan, the currency of
China. In order to estimate the portion of value–added in the form of employee compensation in China (VAchina) over the life cycle of the diesel
engines, China's EIO table (42 sectors) for the year of 2007 is used [15]. Since the economic data is in terms of 2013 CNY then we convert them to
2007 CNY by using China's GDP deflators, 130.768

Panigrahi and Amirapu in 2012 conducted research on "An assessment of EIA system in India". According to the authors there is well developed
regulatory EIA system established in India but coordination is vital for an effective EIA system. Interviews with the officials and consultants showed
that there is weak coordination among the decision makers, SPCBs, consultants, proponents and other agencies/line departments. Proponents and
consultants do not consult concerned departments and agencies during preparation of EIA reports to identify issues. The authors carried out the
assessment of the EIA process and identified the following weakness in the system. There are comprehensive guidelines, legal and legislative
provisions but administrative setup is very weak. EIA is just a formality as most of the time EIA is conducted after start of construction. Coordination
among the consultants and planners are very weak. Involvement of stakeholders into ToR process during scoping is inadequate which results in a thin
coverage of socio–economic and environmental issues in the EIA reports. The quality of EIA reports are very poor and not up to the mark. The reason
identified is the lack of experts and professionals. There are many weaknesses identified in the reports such as it hardly discusses the limitations and
assumptions carried out by consultants.

This essay will begin by examining the government of Bhutan and its direction of improving the economic structure of its country for a sustainable
future. Bhutan is a country located on the southern slopes of the eastern Himalayas. It is a country that is grappling with modernity and development.
Around thirty years ago, Bhutan was completely isolated. With that span of years, the country is now known too much of the outside world. Recently
elected Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, of the country Bhutan has been a prominent figure of the country. Tobgay believes that acting on issues like
youth employment, corruption, and the national debt is more necessary than focusing solely on the GHN. Tobgay additionally concentrates on stopping
corruption in Bhutan's government, and interacting with the Bhutanese population. Tshering Tobgay declared that the country is additionally carbon
negative rather than simply carbon neutral. The Royal government of Bhutan is comprised of 10 ministries which work in bringing the goal of Gross
National Happiness closer to reality. Gross National Happiness is a term originated by his majesty the fourth king of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck,
within the nineteenth seventies. The idea implies that property

The Environmental Impact Of Illegal Mining In Africa
In Ghana, for example, Illegal mining is more prevalent and has been a major contributor to these primary crimes especially for the widespread
destruction of arable land. The country is rich in gold and in turn shows the foundations of environmental crime as being the cause of 'greed and
ignorance' (Grabosky 2003:237). In according to Ghana National Commission for UNESCO statistics (2013, cited in Dwumor and Arko, 2013) the
mining industry offers employment opportunities, estimating that it employs over 500,000 Ghanaians making it unfortunately too widespread to
tackle. On a global scale, the issue of illegal mining tends to relate directly to safety. In fact, it is observed by Pyatt et al. (2000) the environmental
impact of illegal mining boils down to the lack of knowledge of the risks associated with mining. It is apparent that mining in Ghana has tremendous
repercussions for the countries environment and the citizens due to high concentrations of chemicals being released such as mercury. The heavily
polluted tailing in the mining process are neglected in ways that polluted the soil, lakes, air and the water. To elaborate, this agrees with the findings
by Hilson (2002) who found in this research a rather large amount of mercury emission estimated to be over 5 tonnes is being released each year.
Furthermore, a study by Nyarko et al. (2006) found high levels of arsenic in the rivers of Ghana, samples ranging from 0.90 to 8.00 ppm, exceeding

Potential construction project for The City of Liverpool College – LAX
Author: Matthew Ellis
Introduction:
I have been asked to put together a report for the potential construction project for The City Of Liverpool College. The current site being looked at is
on Roscoe Street. I will be discussing the consequences which could occur to the buildings in proximity to the site location, and the people who could
be affected.
Body:
During this part of the report, I will be discussing what problems could occur during each phase (pre–construction, construction, post construction) and
how you can go about preventing this from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natural habitats:
A natural habitat is where a living being lives, for example, we live in our homes, birds live in trees/nests. As this is a city, there isn't many places
where animals can live. Birds can build the nests and bats can live in buildings, but in terms of forestry for example, there isn't much for an animal. So
it isn't necessary to go into depth about this.
Construction:
During the construction phase, there will be a lot happening all over. This may vary from the actual erecting of the building, to the transport of goods, to
the extraction of materials needed, etc. There will be a lot of damage done to the o–zone layer, a lot of habitat and biodiversity destroyed, amongst
other things.
Transport of goods:
The transport of good is when materials that are needed for the building are transported to the site, generally by vehicles. The problem with this is
there would be a lot of materials needed to supply this project. Nitrogen oxide is formed when the combustion of fuels takes place. Vehicles use fuels
(oil) as a source of power, which then releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which is what is destroying our atmosphere. In the UK, this is the
biggest pollutant we release. And it is done mostly by cars.
Nitrogen oxide, when exposed over a long duration of time, can decrease lung function and also increase the chance of getting bronchitis, cough or
phlegm, which is more likely to come into

The Environment And Corporate Environmental Impact On The...
Most of the pollution is the result of human activities. There is no question that human activities have badly harmed the natural environment and this
negative impact has always be a major concern. People starts to aware of the potential effect of environmental damage on the ecosystems. Therefore
there has been increasing concern over the companies' impacts on the environment (Hart 1995). Chatterji et al (2009) mentioned that it becomes
significant for the companies to take environmental issues into consideration as there is an increasing interest in how the companies deal with their
environmental impact. Also, the public becomes more scrutiny about this matter over time. The original concept of corporate social responsibilities
focus only on the social responsibilities, such as employment and consumer rights. As environmental damage has become major concern in the recent
years, the concept of corporate social responsibilities has also covered environmental responsibilities, such as water pollution and polluted gas emission,
which in turn become one of the important parts of corporate social responsibilities practices (Flammer 2013). Globalisation has constantly developed
the concept of corporate social responsibilities in which the method of handling the companies' environmental consequences is important for
maintaining or improving the corporate image. Therefore many companies utilise the corporate social responsibilities practices and disclose them in

Environmental Impacts Of Environmental Disasters
Introduction Environmental damage that is caused by just one individual is exclusively minor which causes it to be unnoticed, whereas a major group
of people, such as a large corporation harming the environment at once causes major harm to society. More than a century of industrial development
has caused negative environmental impacts such as global warming, ozone depletion, and air and water pollution. These are recognized as global
environmental problems that need immediate solutions. Climate change, as an international environmental issue, is getting a great deal of attention as
it has become a global issue. In the last few decades, there has been a heightened awareness of environmental issues by governments, policy makers,
advocacy groups, business firms, and the public all over the world. The corporate role in this, the potentially most severe and all–encompassing of
environmental disasters, is quite clear as business activities are effecting climate change negatively. This paper will argue that in order to minimize the
negative effect of environmental harm and climate change, the undertakings of corporations should be structured and encouraged to perform in a
socially responsible manner. This will be examined through the discussion on the legal structure of corporations and the desire of regulators and
victims looking to hold them accountable for their environmental harm. It will be followed with a description of the importance of corporate social
responsibility. This

environmental impact, such as global warming, ozone depletion etc. It covers everything from fossil fuel depletion to effects on human health, and
there's already a growing list of industry organizations that recommend using the EPDs Existence of an EPD for a product does not indicate that
environmental performance criteria have been met. EPDs are a declaration tool that helps purchasers better understand a products sustainable qualities
and environmental results so they can make more informed product selections. EPDs can be developed after a product LCA is conducted, and are
based on applicable PCRs. For architects and designers, EPDs helps in intensifying the sustainability of design and enable to create the best possible
spaces. EPDs can also helps to get industry certifications and LEED credits. It is committed to diminish the carbon footprint &waste, building a bright

The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment
In today's society, the environment is constantly being poorly affected by humans and their actions. Environmental issues are defined as problems
that the planet's systems face due to humans not treating the Earth properly. These issues can occur from simple actions such as someone throwing
their trash on the ground, people overpopulating an area, or even someone driving their car. The importance of this essay is to address these many
issues that the Earth is facing along with explaining how we can put an end to these problems. The issues that the planet's systems are facing, are
social problems because humans are being negatively affected by them. Imus (2014), states "Recent studies have linked pollution exposure to asthma,
autism, heart disease, cancer, schizophrenia, migraines, and more" (p. 1). Humans are polluting the Earth, which is killing our environment and
causing themselves to get sick as well. In our society, the Earth is being treated very poorly. King (2013), states "1.9 billion tons of litter ends up in
the ocean every year" (p. 1). Whenever people throw trash on the ground, 80 percent of it is carried by runoff; meaning that the trash is transported to
the ocean by waterways. After the trash is transported into the ocean, sea creatures are put in danger. According to the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA), "64 percent of lakes and 30 percent of bay and estuarine areas are not clean enough for fishing and swimming" (Bradford,

Hs2 High Speed 2 Environmental Impact Assessment Report Introduction Environmental Impact Assessment is very advanced process of forecasting influence on environment of planned operation, in this case– High Speed 2. It is crucial to do EIA before any construction works commence, it will allow designers to change or improve the project in order to minimise negative consequences of it. This paper include analyse of main environmental issues, such as: impact on agriculture, forestry and soils; air quality; climate, community, cultural heritage, ecology, land quality, visual effects, noise/vibration, waste material resources and water resources/ flood risk. Abstract Environmental impact assessment is the formal mechanism used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To decide which of procedures is the most relevant to particular environmental effect– professional judgment must be made. Afterwards, draft of Environmental Statement can be prepared and publicly consulted. Then final version of ES can be formed. Environmental impact: EIA covers all issues listed below: Agriculture, Forestry and Soils: such as: farming and other rural enterprises, farm buildings, related land use and woodland planting, ancient woodlands; The designers assures, that good quality agricultural soil will be stripped prior to construction and stored appropriately for future use. Community: general effects on residential property, community facilities and communities as a whole: e.g. effects on public footpaths, bridleways, parks and gardens. Temporary presence of construction workers; All homes which are located close to the planned route have already lost 40 per cent of their value, some of them will be demolished due to the project, but the HS2 Ltd. assures that all

  • 3. California Department Of Transportation ( Caltrans ) Essay Thank you for providing the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) the opportunity to review and comment on the Initial Study and Notice of Preparation of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the City of Colton Roquest Ranch Specific Plan (Project), located west of La Cadena Drive and north of Center Street in the City of Colton. The project proposes to develop the 336.2–acre site with up to 1,050 residential dwelling units, 1.2 acres of neighborhood commercial use, 22.3 acres of recreational open space, 199.7 acres of open space, a 0.8–acre fire station site, and a 10.3–acre school site. As the owner and operator of the State Highway System (SHS), it is our responsibility to coordinate and consult with local jurisdictions when proposed development may impact our facilities. As the responsible agency under the California Environmental Quality Act, it is also our responsibility to make recommendations to offset associated impacts with the proposed project. Although the project is under the jurisdiction of the City of Colton, due to the project's potential impact to the State facilities, including Interstate 10, Interstate 215, State Route 60, and State Route 91, it is also subject to the policies and regulations that govern the SHS. In the preceding Environmental Impact Report (EIR), we recommend a scoping meeting prior to the preparation of the Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) to discuss any potential issues and accurately evaluate the extent of ... • 4. Analysis Of Kelo V. City Of New London Taking is by means which the federal or state governments can enforce eminent domain or condemnation of your land or your land rights through just compensation, and fair market value, for public purposes. Meaning, that the government can physically acquire said property for public use or purpose and regulate the use or the manner in which the property is currently controlled. In the below case, Kelo v. City of New London, the term public use is loosely related to public purpose, as the focus was on economic growth for the area, to provide for increased taxes, and even additional employment opportunities. The overall benefits were to the public, but at a cost, who 's cost, the current standing residents required change, by means of uprooting there families and moving. More takings have occurred in the past decade that have benefited private individuals and large corporations that essentially provide more monetary gains to the economy rather than for general public use. The land taken for private benefit has primarily been that of low–income and minority individuals. (Beideman 2007, p.273) Essentially, taking from the poor to empower and strengthen the rich under the guise of economic growth and economic gain.

  • 5. The Environmental Impact Assessment On The Environment NON – TECHNICAL SUMMARY The Environmental Impact Assessment is an ongoing process in terms of environmental and social considerations that places in a high priority the conservation and the enhancement of the natural environment. EIA is defined as the study of the effect prediction of a proposed projct on the environment. In addion, it may be described as a tool which helps to make an important decision comparing many alternative plans for a project and seeks to find the best solution combining all the financial and environmental costs and benefits. The EIA is based on integrity, utility and sustainability. 2. DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING ENVIRONMENT 2.1 PROJECT DESCRIPTION MegaCorp company is responsible for the exploration of the WA–418–P field. For this reason , the company evaluated four options in order to choose the most notable option, considering other significant factors that influenced its duty such as socioeconomic, healthy , safety, existing and biophysical environment and many environmental challenges of the project. The options are : 1.Gravity Based System (GBS) 2.Fixed Unit Tie Back 3.Sub Sea Tie Back 4.FPSO Ultimately, MegaCorp confirmed that for the exploitation of the field, FPSO will be used with drilling five deviated wells and five water injectors 2.2 EXISTING ENVRONMENT 2.2.1 GENERAL The environmental statement presents the results of EIA conducted by MegaCorp for the exploration and development of W field, in the North – West Region of Australia, in ... • 6. Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia) TITLE – Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), it 's introduction, purpose, methods of EIA, EIA conducted in India, Environmental Impact Statement(EIS). INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION : An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the environmental, social and economic aspects. PURPOSE : The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) defines an environmental impact assessment as "the process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the methods are GMP–RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic– EIA methods need specific parameters and variables to be measured to estimate values of impact indicators. However many of the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality, lifestyle quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the impacts we may need to take the help of information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate, systematically, fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic approach.[9] At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to those that were predicted. The main objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main considerations are: scientific – to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management– to assess the success of mitigation in reducing impacts. Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses. While some believe in a simpler approach where you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Brief Note On Golf's Environmental Impact Under Par: Golf 's Environmental Impact Owners of golf courses are currently facing challenges which threaten their very existence. Whether it is from a dwindling participation rate, water shortages, or environmental concerns due to fertilizer and pesticide runoff, courses must adapt their strategy for a new reality. It is clear from statistics that participation in golf is dwindling which will threaten the existence of golf courses. Coupled with an increased awareness of the impact on the environment, this could prove to be an insurmountable obstacle if golf courses are not quick to adapt. In states such as California and Texas, drought conditions have forced communities to look at the significant water usage of golf courses in order to reduce unnecessary consumption. Another significant cause for concern is the effect of pesticide and fertilizer runoff on the local watershed. Clearly there are very real and sometimes devastating effects when the pesticides and fertilizers used by golf courses find their way into unintended areas such as lakes, rivers and ponds. However, it is not all bad news for golf courses. There are positive environmental impacts such as preserving a home for birds and other animals, reducing urban sprawl, and the growth of vegetation and trees. These challenges facing golf course owners are very real, and in order to continue to attract players and avoid costly legislation, golf courses must embrace water conservation efforts, reduce their release of ... • 8. Airport Environmental Impact And Legislation Airport Environmental Impact and Legislation Overview Airports impact their local communities in a wide variety of ways. As an employer, large, international airports can help local economies thrive financially with employment opportunities for area residents. Even smaller municipal airports "give back" to the local community in the form of tax revenue from fuel sales, airplane property taxes, and in the case of land–lease arrangements, hangar property taxes. Further, airports can (and typically do) impact the environment around them. Airport operators are mandated by federal and state guidelines on areas such as erosion mitigation, pollution prevention, and to fuel spill prevention, and are bound even further to protect the local ecology and reduce the impact on wildlife, flora, and endangered species (Horonjeff, 2010). Airports must be prepared to respond to any potential environmental disaster. This is accomplished through action plans developed at the state and local levels, such as a Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures Plans. Environmental Impact There are significant rules and regulations placed on airports that deal with the environment. One widely referred to document is Federal Aviation Administration Order 5050.4B, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Implementing Instructions for Airport Projects (DOT, 2006). Procedures contained within this instruction are mandatory, and airport operators are legally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of Comprehensive Site Investigations And... The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental & Earth Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards. A condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed decontamination. A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current business zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off. The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority that the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down slope. Work stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by its development consent. • 10. Environmental Impact Assessment: Identifying the... Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is 'the process of decision making by identifying the potentially significant environmental effects and risks of a project'. Environmental impact analysis is one of the stages of an EIA (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). Environmental impact analysis is a process of providing decision makers with an indication of the likely consequences of their action (Wathern, 2013). This stage comprises impact identification and determination of the significance of the impacts. Impact identification is the process of illustrating cause and effect relationship of a project activities and key environmental aspects. It needs a systematic expert knowledge and judgment (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). In this study, key environmental... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the process of identifying the impacts of the two processing units (Fig 1) by showing the cause and effect relationship, and analyzing and defining which impacts are significant and require further attention and controlling mechanisms. Similarly, identifying criteria are necessary to determine the significance of impacts. According to Sadler and McCabe (2002 impact is characterized by the nature, magnitude, spatial extent, timing, duration, reversibility, likelihood, frequency and mitigation potential. Such criteria characterize all types of impacts in general. Since the study focused on local scale, six criteria were adopted from Kumar & Armani (2012) to compare and judge the impacts that was identified during impact identification (Table 3.13). Thus, in this study environmental impact analysis is the process of identifying the impacts of the two processing units (Fig 1) by showing the cause and effect relationship, and analyzing and defining which impacts are significant and needs further attention and controlling mechanisms. • 11. The Environmental Impact Of The Environmental Movement... Environmental Movement Report Before the 1960s, environmentalism mainly focused on conservation of resources and the wilderness and was apparent through Theodore Roosevelt's creation of five National Parks, one hundred fifty National Forests and about two hundred thirty acres of land set aside for conservation. In the 1960s, the environmental movement was really able to garner support as it was during many other movements such as Civil Rights, Peace, and Women's. Many consider the spark for environmentalism to be Rachel Carson's Silent Spring (1962), which exposed the harmful effects of pollutants such as DDT on the environment and the public. While minute amounts of DDT cause little to no harm to the organisms that are affected, as DDT moves up the food chain, it becomes more and more concentrated. A generally accepted value is that for each level up in the food chain, the concentration of pollutants increases by a thousand times. The effects of Silent Spring cannot be overestimated. As people began to become more informed about pollution, more people demanded that the federal government take action. The environmental movement then grew to encompass global warming, clean air, energy, the ozone layer, and also pollution. These concerns were vocalized in the very first Earth Day that occurred on April 22, 1970 and was established by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson. • 13. Coal : Environmental And Environmental Impacts Of Coal Environmental Impacts of Coal According to researchers Armstrong & Menon (1998), coal is a major energy source, constituting 25% of energy consumption worldwide (21% in the United States) and 40% of electricity generation worldwide (45% in the United States). Coal accounts for 40% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions and is therefore a major contributor to climate change (Armstrong & Menon, 1998). Coal can be produced through surface or underground mining both dangerous operations for workers. Injuries occur from falling rocks, falls into mine shafts, misuse of machinery, gas inhalation, explosions, floods, and cave ins. Respiratory exposures to silica dust and coal dust place miners at risk of silicosis and coal workers' pneumoconiosis. Miners also suffer an excess risk of lung cancer. Other occupational hazards include dangerous levels of heat and noise. Armstrong & Menon (1998), also claims that many modern coal mines involve mountaintop removal and strip mining, which result in ecological damage, stress nearby communities, increase the risk of mudslides, and contaminate water sources with waste emissions. After being mined, coal is processed and transported to power stations, factories, and other points of use. Armstrong & Menon (1998), explains that processing results in occupational hazards, including dust exposure, noise, ergonomic hazards, & carcinogen exposure. From war, peace migration, population growth, disease, along with the rise and fall of many civilizations mother nature has been right along for the ride through the prosperity and as well as the hardship. The environmental problems that occur have been happening due to natural occurrences, but recently since the age of the Industrial Revolution human activity has become a large factor in the increased problems that are present, and the implications of our consequences are hurting not only the environment but also us in turn. The major environmental issues cause by humans are loss in biodiversity, deforestation, ocean pollution, water scarcity and climate change. The different environmental issues that are brought up with human activity are intense and sometimes the effects are not seen immediately but they do have an effect on the surrounding environment. First, I will elaborate one the different issues and explain what they include. The first being Biodiversity, which is known as the "The variety of life, typically expressed in terms of species richness." (Bolen 2010). This includes both biotic and abiotic factors in the natural world that thrive. The second issue present is that of deforestation which is the action of clearing an area of trees, which could range anywhere from a small piece of land to a large area. Another ... The consumers lack care due to a combination of things. First off, consuming more clothing does not affect their day to day lives in a negative manner. These people have the mentality that if it does not affect me, it does not matter. One article articulates this lack of concern by millennial consumers perfectly, "They may care deeply about eating organic foods, but fast fashion consumption is exempt from such moral decisions. Title: Impact of Environmental Communication in Public Sphere on Urban Youth in Gujarat 1 Introduction Environment has attained centrality in the national and international arena in the past few decades. The primary reason for this has been environmental degradation as a consequence of varied socio–economic, institutional and technological factors. The need for sensitisation is imperative and which can be substantially achieved through legislation and communication. Communication designs of environmental issues influence public awareness, opinion, and action. Environmental awareness or the subsequent lack thereof, have been on a rise for a while now with rise in population, changing political ideologies, increased private investments and overall privatisation and a dominant enshrining of the pro–development philosophy of the West. With such tendencies, as humans grow in number, so does the dependency on nature and the lookout for space, an insatiable cycle of production and consumption commences and with this, the Earth – our primary producer is reduced to commodity status. In a world dominated by human beings, where often the rights of the natural world and of animals dependent on it, are trampled upon, communication can play an important role in providing a channel for expression, discussion and action. Industrialisation continues to displace indigenous people on a large scale level resulting in various grassroots movements, all in the name of development. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water waste is a problem for many people in their households. We can start conserving in our homes which most of our water is wasted daily and we do not pay attention to it. Water is used for daily activities such as taking a shower, brushing teeth, washing the dishes, etc. My personal problem is over usage in the shower, I like to take at least a 30 minute shower. Another major problem is when I let the water run when I am brushing my teeth. Environmental Impact of Personal Lifestyle: Behavior # 2 For many years I have contributed to biodegradables that end up in landfill sites. I have been continuously purchasing water bottles my whole life. Plastic is used almost everywhere, I have been using plastic bags when I go grocery shopping and I have never tried to get reusable bags. Environmental Impact of Personal Lifestyle: Behavior # 3 Commuting is also one of the many problems that contribute to environmental pollution. Every day I commute to work and school, I add more greenhouse gases into the environment. Air pollution is a major problem and cars are a big cause of it. The environment being a multi–disciplinary subject, a multitude of agencies is involved in collection of environmental data. However, there is no single organization in India which tracks the data available amongst these agencies and makes it available in one place, in a form and manner required by practitioners in the field of environmental impact assessment in India. Further, the environmental data is not available in value added forms that can enhance the quality of the EIA. This in turn adversely affects the time and efforts required for conducting the environmental impact assessments (EIAs) by project proponents and also timely environmental clearances by the regulators. With this background, Environmental Information Centre (EIC) has been set up to serve as a professionally managed clearing house of environmental information that can be used by MoEF, project proponents, consultants, NGOs and other stakeholders involved in the process of environmental impact assessment in India. EIC caters to the need of creating and disseminating of organized environmental data for various developmental initiatives all over the country. With that span of years, the country is now known too much of the outside world. Recently elected Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, of the country Bhutan has been a prominent figure of the country. Tobgay believes that acting on issues like youth employment, corruption, and the national debt is more necessary than focusing solely on the GHN. Tobgay additionally concentrates on stopping corruption in Bhutan's government, and interacting with the Bhutanese population. Tshering Tobgay declared that the country is additionally carbon negative rather than simply carbon neutral. The Royal government of Bhutan is comprised of 10 ministries which work in bringing the goal of Gross National Happiness closer to reality. Gross National Happiness is a term originated by his majesty the fourth king of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, within the nineteenth seventies. The idea implies that property ... • 37. The Environmental Impact Of Illegal Mining In Africa In Ghana, for example, Illegal mining is more prevalent and has been a major contributor to these primary crimes especially for the widespread destruction of arable land. The country is rich in gold and in turn shows the foundations of environmental crime as being the cause of 'greed and ignorance' (Grabosky 2003:237). In according to Ghana National Commission for UNESCO statistics (2013, cited in Dwumor and Arko, 2013) the mining industry offers employment opportunities, estimating that it employs over 500,000 Ghanaians making it unfortunately too widespread to tackle. On a global scale, the issue of illegal mining tends to relate directly to safety. In fact, it is observed by Pyatt et al. (2000) the environmental impact of illegal mining boils down to the lack of knowledge of the risks associated with mining. It is apparent that mining in Ghana has tremendous repercussions for the countries environment and the citizens due to high concentrations of chemicals being released such as mercury. The heavily polluted tailing in the mining process are neglected in ways that polluted the soil, lakes, air and the water. To elaborate, this agrees with the findings by Hilson (2002) who found in this research a rather large amount of mercury emission estimated to be over 5 tonnes is being released each year. Furthermore, a study by Nyarko et al. (2006) found high levels of arsenic in the rivers of Ghana, samples ranging from 0.90 to 8.00 ppm, exceeding the recommended values of ... Potential construction project for The City of Liverpool College – LAX Author: Matthew Ellis Introduction: I have been asked to put together a report for the potential construction project for The City Of Liverpool College. The current site being looked at is on Roscoe Street. I will be discussing the consequences which could occur to the buildings in proximity to the site location, and the people who could be affected. Body: During this part of the report, I will be discussing what problems could occur during each phase (pre–construction, construction, post construction) and how you can go about preventing this from ... As this is a city, there isn't many places where animals can live. Birds can build the nests and bats can live in buildings, but in terms of forestry for example, there isn't much for an animal. So it isn't necessary to go into depth about this. Construction: During the construction phase, there will be a lot happening all over. This may vary from the actual erecting of the building, to the transport of goods, to the extraction of materials needed, etc. There will be a lot of damage done to the o–zone layer, a lot of habitat and biodiversity destroyed, amongst other things. Transport of goods: The transport of good is when materials that are needed for the building are transported to the site, generally by vehicles. The problem with this is there would be a lot of materials needed to supply this project. Nitrogen oxide is formed when the combustion of fuels takes place. Vehicles use fuels (oil) as a source of power, which then releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which is what is destroying our atmosphere. In the UK, this is the biggest pollutant we release. And it is done mostly by cars. Nitrogen oxide, when exposed over a long duration of time, can decrease lung function and also increase the chance of getting bronchitis, cough or phlegm, which is more likely to come into

  • 40. The Environment And Corporate Environmental Impact On The... Most of the pollution is the result of human activities. There is no question that human activities have badly harmed the natural environment and this negative impact has always be a major concern. People starts to aware of the potential effect of environmental damage on the ecosystems. Therefore there has been increasing concern over the companies' impacts on the environment (Hart 1995). Chatterji et al (2009) mentioned that it becomes significant for the companies to take environmental issues into consideration as there is an increasing interest in how the companies deal with their environmental impact. Also, the public becomes more scrutiny about this matter over time. The original concept of corporate social responsibilities focus only on the social responsibilities, such as employment and consumer rights. As environmental damage has become major concern in the recent years, the concept of corporate social responsibilities has also covered environmental responsibilities, such as water pollution and polluted gas emission, which in turn become one of the important parts of corporate social responsibilities practices (Flammer 2013). Globalisation has constantly developed the concept of corporate social responsibilities in which the method of handling the companies' environmental consequences is important for maintaining or improving the corporate image. Therefore many companies utilise the corporate social responsibilities practices and disclose them in the annual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Environmental Impacts Of Environmental Disasters Introduction Environmental damage that is caused by just one individual is exclusively minor which causes it to be unnoticed, whereas a major group of people, such as a large corporation harming the environment at once causes major harm to society. More than a century of industrial development has caused negative environmental impacts such as global warming, ozone depletion, and air and water pollution. These are recognized as global environmental problems that need immediate solutions. Climate change, as an international environmental issue, is getting a great deal of attention as it has become a global issue. In the last few decades, there has been a heightened awareness of environmental issues by governments, policy makers, advocacy groups, business firms, and the public all over the world. The corporate role in this, the potentially most severe and all–encompassing of environmental disasters, is quite clear as business activities are effecting climate change negatively. This paper will argue that in order to minimize the negative effect of environmental harm and climate change, the undertakings of corporations should be structured and encouraged to perform in a socially responsible manner. This will be examined through the discussion on the legal structure of corporations and the desire of regulators and victims looking to hold them accountable for their environmental harm. It will be followed with a description of the importance of corporate social responsibility. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment In today's society, the environment is constantly being poorly affected by humans and their actions. Environmental issues are defined as problems that the planet's systems face due to humans not treating the Earth properly. These issues can occur from simple actions such as someone throwing their trash on the ground, people overpopulating an area, or even someone driving their car. The importance of this essay is to address these many issues that the Earth is facing along with explaining how we can put an end to these problems. The issues that the planet's systems are facing, are social problems because humans are being negatively affected by them. Imus (2014), states "Recent studies have linked pollution exposure to asthma, autism, heart disease, cancer, schizophrenia, migraines, and more" (p. 1). Humans are polluting the Earth, which is killing our environment and causing themselves to get sick as well. In our society, the Earth is being treated very poorly. King (2013), states "1.9 billion tons of litter ends up in the ocean every year" (p. 1). Whenever people throw trash on the ground, 80 percent of it is carried by runoff; meaning that the trash is transported to the ocean by waterways. After the trash is transported into the ocean, sea creatures are put in danger. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "64 percent of lakes and 30 percent of bay and estuarine areas are not clean enough for fishing and swimming" (Bradford, ...
