My Special Day
Today is my dad's birthday! I know that we are inviting some close friends over to celebrate his
special day, but no one is here at the moment. Because none of my friends have shown up, I begin to
play by myself. I know they are coming but I thought they would be here by now. I am lonely and I
wish someone was here to play with me. As people are filling the yard, I am not recognizing any of
the adults at the party. As of now, I am alone so I take my dog Goldie out to the deepest part of my
backyard.
5:00pm Friday the 6th
As I wonder when the cake will be served, I look back to my house. I continue playing with the
sticks that are in front of me. Since I am by myself, I try to stack the sticks on top of one another.
Bored, I walk through my yard to see if I recognize anyone. I find a huge stick on the ground, which
grabs my attention. I always love clearing out the backyard with sticks so I continue on my way. As
I pick up the stick, I swing it around like a sword. I find the perfect spot to start whacking at the
weeds, until I hear footsteps behind me. Who could that be? I thought Goldie was the only one with
me. I still hear the footsteps.
9:00 pm Friday the 6th
Walking through my back yard, I find the boy who will change my life. I do not recognize this boy,
which means my parents must know his parents. As I look at him, I see that his cloths are smudged
with dirt, and his hair is in standing at a point. He is tall and big for someone who is only a few
years older than

The Love Languages Of The Children
It is a universal truth that we all need love in our lives. We all have different ways in which we like
to receive and give love. Many of us may not even realize that we do. Gary Chapman writes about
five different ways in which we love and titles them five love languages. It is important to identify
how we love, because it can allow us to have a happier life and make other people's lives better. It is
especially important to identify the love languages of the children which we encounter, because it
can shape their identity either for the better or worse. There are five major love languages that can
be identified and can pretty much sum up the best ways we can express our love. The five love
languages are touch, words of affirmation, giving, time, and service. A child's love language can be
identified in two ways, through observation and through communication, which pretty much also
depends on their love language. We can observe the child and see if he enjoys touching his parents
and siblings, or if he does things and then looks to see what the parent will say or perhaps just sits
next to their siblings and follows them around. Love languages are adaptable and although most
humans have all the love languages, some are stronger than others. The love languages of the
parents effects what the love languages of the children will be. For example if the parents hug a lot
or if they buy gifts for each other the child can adopt that gift and want to use it

Pretivation Of Child Observation On Child And Children
I observed a male with a female child (approximately 2 years of age) walking around the store to
buy some hot food to eat. The adult carries a basket in one hand and the other hand holds the child's
hand. The child wants to hold the basket which it is full of fresh vegetables and frying sausages and
sticky rice. The adult bends down and says, "You can't carry the basket because it's very heavy and
you are still small to carry it. You may hurt yourself. Okay?" The child looks a little sad and replies,
"Okay." The adult then continues as they both walking away, the adult says, "You can carry it when
you get older like Daddy, ok?" The child replied with "okay!"
The method observed was the Cognitive Method (Reasoning)
The evidence supports that this socialization method as cognitive method (reasoning) was that the
male explained to the child that the child was still small and she shouldn't be carry a heavy basket
because she may hurt herself.
What you observed
I observed a small group of 4 people, 1 male and 1 female adults and 2 female child (approximately
1 ½ and 3 years of age) blowing bubbles at the park. The male shows both child to blow bubbles out
of a bubble stick. The adult male would try to blow the bubbles first and then gives the two girls a
chance to blow the bubbles. The older child tries to blow air into the whole of the bubble stick but
nothing happens. The adult male shows the child with encouragement and says, "You have to blow

Personal Narrative: The Wild Essay
The Wild
My Family and I were at home eating dinner. After dinner I told my mom that I had left something
on top of the mountain, so she said "'go up to get it Mary. But she didn't want me to go alone so I
went to go see if my friend was home but he wasn't so I disobeyed my moms rules and went up by
myself anyway. And it was starting to get dark so I had to get the base fast but I couldn't find it. Now
it was really dark and 2 hours had already passed and I couldn't my way off the mountain because it
was so dark. And with my luck my phone died so I couldn't call anyone for help, so I just started
walking and walking after a little bit I realized I was getting nowhere so again I walked eventually I

I woke up around 6:30 in the morning and I realized I had not eaten in days and I was starving. So I
went out and started looking for something to eat, but I couldn't find anything, then out of the corner
of my eye I saw a rabbit so I jumped for But unfortunately I missed and the rabbit hopped away. So
I went back to the camp, and I sat there and I was thinking how was I going to catch any animals
then it hit me.I started out in the woods looking of a curved stick and eventually after looking for
one for about twenty minutes I found one I tried to break it but it was to hard so it was a good stick.
So I started walking back to camp when I got there I took one of my shoelaces and tied it to the stick
the shoelace was nice and sturdy so I knew this was going to be a good bow.
So the next day I went out to the woods again and started looking for arrows. I found a few good
sticks and took them back to camp and started sharpening them. I put a little crease in the end of the
arrow and then put in the quiver then I shot it and surprisingly it went pretty far probably a good 20
feet. So I took it out and started looking for food then I saw it a rabbit sitting right in front of me I
put the arrow in the quiver and I shot it. I took it back to camp and I realized I had to skin it so I
used my rock knife to skin it and I found another straight stick to stab the rabbit and then I cooked it

Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman – Fast Car In Tracy Chapman's song "fast car", the speaker deals with her reality
and longs for a better life situation. By using the metaphor "fast car", she wants to describe an
incisive moment in her life. The woman supports this with words which are associated with this
conveyance and talks about the escape from her old, deadlocked life to a new place, where she
wants to be able to start all over again. The speaker opens the song with expressing her desire of a
conveyance, that takes her away from her present surroundings. She is longing for somebody to
rescue her, a company that takes her into a better life, where she can be able to start all over again.
With her statement "you got a fast car", the speaker is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the driver of the car as well, her boyfriend, who was next to her during that turning point in
her life. Together, they were driving towards a new place, a place where they could start a new
beginning: "Your arm felt nice wrapped round my shoulder." For the first time after her mother had
left the family, it was somebody else that took care of her and not the other way around. She had
somebody besides her that supported and protected her. For the first time after a long while, she felt
being loved. However, towards the end of the song, the woman is no longer talking about "we" and
is using the words "you" and "I" instead. This splitting up can be related to their relationship.
Fearing that her partner would convert into the same person as her father, the speaker is not only
splitting up the word "we", she is also splitting up with him. "You got a fast car / but is it fast
enough so you can fly away". No longer is she talking about "so that we can fly away". With those
words, she is making an explicit request that he should leave her and his children. She wants him to
sit in his car alone and to drive away, just as she did some time ago, in the hope that the speed of the
fast car would change his life situation as well. In conclusion, one can see that despite of the title of
the song and the repeated use of it, "fast car" is not the main aspect of the song, but rather the
meanings and feelings that are associated with it. In the beginning

Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Professor
Observing any history class presents the graduate student with a new perspective on how to teach
the subject of history. While it is true that every professor has his/her distinct way of teaching a class
that is unique, the pedagogical methods used in class make a difference in how effective the
professor is in lecturing on a certain subject. It can be a given that not every professor is effective in
being successful, giving way to certain strengths and weaknesses in his/her lecture style. For the
class that I observed, there were notable and significant strengths that professor effectively utilized,
but additionally there were a couple of weaknesses that are worth highlighting. It is first important
to address the strengths of the professor. One of the first things that I noticed was effective when
observing this professor was how she used technology to her benefit. The use of technology in a
classroom setting can be advantageous to the professor, but can additionally prove to be challenging.
An example of how technology can be both beneficial and disadvantageous can be seen in the
particular lecture that I observed. The professor relied heavily on the use of PowerPoint during this
particular lecture. Where she had tons of information on certain slides, the students around me wrote
with an ambitious fervor in order to record every word present on certain slides that were crammed
with information. This was a notable weakness in the pedagogical style of the professor, but where
there was a weakness there was a notable strength that professor effectively employed. When such
slides appeared to the students, the professor took her time in explaining the material so that the
students had ample time to record the information. Additionally, the professor made key mentions as
to what information was vital to what the students should write down, successfully reducing the
amount of stress on the students in the class to record each and every word on the slide. However,
the most key strength the professor effectively performed regarding the use of technology in her
class was how efficient she was in not reading the information word for word from the projector.
This allowed for the professor to pace around the

Analysis Of Fast Car By Tracy Chapman
Music is often just a medium, utilized by artists, to paint a vivid picture in the minds of the listener.
As a listener, often you can be caught off guard by the artists ability to do so. In the song fast car by
Tracy Chapman, the incredible singer/songwriter will do just that. She will render an image so
graphic, and so dramatic, that you will swear that you were walking in the shoes of the woman she
sings about in her song. The gracefully flowing melody and emotionally evolving lyrics transport
you through an undeniably extraordinary journey of joy and sorrow, all within the confines of a four
minute and fifty–nine second song.
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman is a powerful song about a young woman who is endeavoring to make it
by in life. She is living a very poor, and underprivileged lifestyle, her father is an alcoholic, and her
mother withdrew from her life to make a better life for herself. Unfortunately, that is the only thing
that this young woman wants to do, make a better life for herself. With her father being sick and
stuck to the bottle, she is forced to drop out of school and take care of him. Dreaming of running
away and starting a new life was the only thing that was keeping her going.
Within the first two verses of the song, this young woman presents an issue that is all too common
for many people. She has big dreams and wants to make a name for herself, but to succumb to
making that dream a reality, she would have to desert the loved ones that have made

Fast Car Tracy Chapman Poetic Techniques
The song "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman revolves around who we assume is Chapman, or another
first–person point–of–view, and their lover. They both are itching to get out of the town they're
living in and move to the city. Chapman ends up coming to terms and accepting her situation in the
city, while her lover is the opposite. In "Fast Car", Chapman uses juxtaposition and subtle changes
in her repetition to convey the idea that the feeling of escape is fleeting unless you actively work to
make the best of your situation. In the song, the speaker is Chapman herself, or a character she has
created. They seem to be talking to the antagonist, her partner, but it's not clear whether she's talking
to them face to face or not. The whole song is about their elopement from their old town to the city,
and them either coming to terms with their new life or still not being satisfied. This would mean that
the conflict is internal, as it isn't Chapman's fault her lover isn't settling. ... Show more content on

In the second half of the song, Chapman says, "you still ain't got a job / and I work in the market as
a checkout girl" (line 36–37). This shows that even after they have left their old town behind, that
her lover isn't settling into their new life in the city. This theme continues later when she says, "I got
a job that pays all our bills / you stay out drinking late at the bar / see more of your friends than you
do your kids" (49–50). This line not only shows a passing of time, but continues to prove that they
are not adjusting or even working towards adjusting to their new life. They seem to still want that

How Modern Works Help Embrace the Classical
The tale of Hero and Leander, a story birthed from ancient Greek mythology, is a powerful story
captured through the words of Christopher Marlowe in his almost epic poem "Hero and Leander."
Although Christopher Marlowe was unable to complete this work before his untimely death, his
poem lived on to be know as one of his masterpieces. His work has spawned multiple remixes, each
with their own style and value.
The excerpt of "Hero and Leander" we will focus on is the very beginning of the poem. Here
Christopher Marlowe sets the stage. The focus begins with the background. Two cities, opposing
each other on either sides of the Hellespont (a body of water). After only a few lines, Marlowe shifts
focus from the cities and towards Hero, one of the main characters in the story. The interesting thing
here is that Marlowe does not give much attention to the details of the story, but rather dives into an
intense seen of imagery regarding Hero. Marlowe, an a successful attempt to convey the Hero's
beauty, says "Her kirtle blue, whereon was many a stain, Made with the blood of wretched lovers
slain" (29). Not only did she have many suitors, but their love for her wash dashed down like a man
being slain. Then Marlowe goes on to say "Many would praise the sweet smell as she past... And
there for honey bees have sought in vain" (41). This imagery shows that Hero was so beautiful that
even nature could not stay away from her.
Standing beside the epic worthy poem by Christopher

Evilness Of Mankind In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies: A View to the Evilness of Mankind
There is hardly ever a man clever enough to recognize the full extent of the evil he does. In the
novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, one could argue that man, in the state of
nature, is born evil. The boys in the novel, represent a metaphorical idea in which they are born unto
the island, and manifest mankind's true nature. As the story progresses, the boys construct a society
and ruin it. They revert to the primitive association in which fear and tyranny lead to ultimate rule.
All of the boys that try to do the proper and befitting deeds are killed off. This violently throws them
unto impending doom, thus proving that men are born evil.

That is, something that cannot be feigned, faked, or imitated. Simon is an individual. He is far
different from the other boys––he is virtuous. Yet, one could still argue that he is only pure of heart
because he is not quite all there; Simon is an epileptic. It would not be fair to judge him alongside
the other boys, for if he were normal, he may have been just as evil as them––another Roger
perhaps. Ralph is also one of the better boys on the island––better, being only a relative term. That
is, though Ralph is not quasi Roger, he still has his ill characteristics. Ralph himself takes place in
the murder of Simon. He was only doing it out of fear, but none the less, he still took a life. Ralph,
"treats the day's decisions as though he were playing chess.
The only trouble was that he would never be a very good chess player." (106). The fact that Ralph
makes bad decisions does mark him as somewhat of an evil character. If we are speaking in terms of
Simon being good and Roger being evil, Ralph lies inbetween them. He takes part in hunting and
killing, yet what separates Ralph from other boys is the fact that he takes responsibility for his
actions––the others do not. This does not, however, imply that Ralph is free of evil. Ralph is born
with evil qualities just as any

Narrative Essay About The First Day Of School
"Ahh", Ronnie yawns, as he gets up for his first day of school. The door creeks open as his mom
peeks inside to check if Ronnie is awake.
His mom in her calm soothing voice asks, "Are you excited for your first day of school?" Ronnie
sees in his mother's eyes that she herself was excited for him to start middle school.
Ronnie replies, "Not really." He was, however, excited to see his friends that he hasn't seen since
summer break. Ronnie gets up and dresses up in the best outfit he could find to impress his friends.
While walking down stairs Ronnie smells the air."Mmm blueberry pancakes, my favorite" Ronnie
says as he sniffs the air with delightment.
His mom rarely makes blueberry pancakes, so Ronnie takes full advantage of this and devours the
squishy dough with the juicy blueberries until he was satisfied. Ronnie's dad comes downstairs and
asked in his very low voice "Are you ready to go to school?''
Trying to chew the last of the pancakes, he replied, "Yeah". So he grabs his backpack from the seat
next to him.
But before they leave his mom kisses him on the cheek and says "Have a good day sweetie!" They
opened the door, Ronnie waved bye to his mom and off to school they went.
During the car ride his dad asks him loads of question such as, "Are you excited" or "Do you have
all of your stuff" so Ronnie just played along and answered his questions. When they arrived, Ronnie
scanned the campus for his friends. As he's scanning, his friends Joseph and Eddie sneaks

The Cow Taught Me How
The Cow Taught Me How
"Life is dangerous, that's what makes it interesting." – John Twelve Hawks
The best thing I ever did for myself was throw a stick at a cow. Not an overly extravagant
accomplishment, but I certainly learned a lot from it. Just a little over six years into the world, on a
day so hot I could practically taste burnt air, my father took my two sisters and me down to the barn.
It wasn't the most attractive place in the world, but to my eyes it was an adventure waiting to
happen. Amid mountainous hay bales and rolling seas of grass, I eagerly awaited the chance to seek
out every little thing in this field.
As soon as dad set us loose to explore, he began to cut a few trees down to make firewood. I sprung

My dad was out of reach; with his chainsaw in hand and the concentration he was using to cut down
trees for kindling, it was unlikely he'd hear me yelling for him. I tried anyway. "Dad!" I called,
cupping my hands around my mouth. I tried again and again, but I didn't succeed. Eventually, I
resorted to crossing my arms and huffing in annoyance. Now it was all up to me. It was almost like a
superhero set–up –– I, the favored protagonist, the cows the nefarious villains, and my sisters the
damsels in distress. My feet bounded forward in a blaze of six year old glory. The glitzy rainbows
on my tennis shoes shone in the sun, my ponytail whipped my face, and my body moved onwards;
ready for action. With careful precision I scanned the ground, looking for some sort of weapon.
Since there isn't much of an arsenal in a cow field, I sought out a stick. And what a wonderful stick
it was! The pair of hands that usually picked up toys and Cheerios snatched the small branch.
Putting my entire body into motion, I let my weapon fly. My body's momentum sent it in a direct
line; hurtling towards the target. My throw was decently aimed, and the stick struck home on an
unfortunate cow's behind. Time crawled to a stop and the branch seemed to hang in the air for a
moment before clattering to the ground. One beat of silence. Two. Suddenly, the beast turned its
head, black eyes seemingly pinning me in place. I probably would've started crying and begging for
mercy had I not

Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
Fast Car, originally composed and performed by Tracy Chapman in 1988, is a contemporary song
that has captured the hearts of audiences of all ages around the world for decades. In this piece, the
persona takes the listener on not only a physical, but also on an emotional and imaginative journey,
as she tells us her story of desperate hope to escape the place she lives in order to make a better life
for herself elsewhere, and the obstacles she must overcome to do so. Through this text, Chapman
effectively communicates that searching for something better is often the reason we embark on a
journey, as well as exploring the fact that taking a physical journey does not always mean that we
escape the problems that exist in our life. She also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Creative Writing In The Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
William Golding has a very dark and distinctive style in his writing. Golding served in WWII thus
causing his view of the innate nature of man to be obscured and altered from the truth. He believes
that evil lives within the heart of every man and sooner or later, it will come to rise. Throughout the
novel, it is clear to see many of the elements that reflect the dark nature of Golding's writing. From
the boys throwing rocks at the boys just for kicks to the Lord of the Flies, pure evil is presented to
the eyes of the reader. Golding's most distinct style would have to be accredited to his use of
description. In many scenes, an ordinary action is presented in a completely new fashion due to the
use of breathtaking descriptive diction. Golding didn't forget to describe other details that would pull
the story together as a whole, such as the very intricate detail of the Jungle and how Jack's sweat
would, ever so slightly, bead among his forehead. In the heart–wrenching scene where Simon is
murdered and is revealed to the reader as the dead body in the sea illuminated by the fluorescent
jellyfish like creatures, the reader is able to get a clear and detailed "painting" of the scene, almost
like the reader is there, in first person, experiencing the heart break.
"We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English
are best at everything." (Golding 48) Golding strategically placed this quote near the beginning of
the plot for a

flowers, the epitome of beauty. Pretty to look at, they come in various shades, and are very sweet–
with the nectar on the inside. Best choice of food ever, she had thought the moment she had first

The Paradox In Mary Oliver's Crossing The Swamp
In Mary Oliver's "Crossing the Swamp", the speaker compares a swamp to the struggles and
hardships in life that fight against her. The speaker repeatedly contrasts herself to the swamp to
emphasize the vastness of the swamp, conveying how the speaker understands the hardships that
come with life. The speaker describes the swamp as a "wet thick cosmos [...] ーthe nugget". The
paradox compares the vast "cosmos" with a small golden "nugget," contrasting how the experience
the speaker is going through may be on a small scale such as the "nugget", but may be large and vast
like a "cosmos". The nugget is described with caesuras, and the caesuras are repeated five times
throughout the poem. They act as an interruption in the poem, conveying that the speaker cannot
smoothly walk through the swamp and the journey is labor–intensive. As the speaker goes through
the swamp, she experiences "branching vines, the dark burred faintly belching bogs". The
alliteration of the hard "b" sound emphasizes how the speaker is fighting against the struggles in the
swamp to get through. The struggles are emphasized as she goes through "pathless, seamless,
peerless mud". The scarcity of the mud is described with the repeated use of "less" and the speaker
indicates how the mud is moveless and still. The image is further expanded with the comparison to
life, and how life requires individuals to make their own path through their life and that the universe
does not simply create paths for each individual. She then feels her "bones knock together at the
pale joints" as she tries to grasp "for foothold, fingerhold, mindhold over" the mud. The descriptions
increase her sense of powerlessness in the vast cosmos she is in. Her mindset shifts as she struggles
over "such slick crossings, deep hipholes, hummocks that sink silently into the black, slack
earthsoup". The repeated sibilants emphasizes how she is slowly sinking into the mud. However, she
is not resisting but is accepting the mud and the fact that she has no control over it. The acceptance
contrasts her earlier struggles with the "belching bogs" that she fought against. Mud symbolizing
life's struggles itself, the speaker learns to accept the challenges ahead of her. She shifts to an

Tom Brennan Essay
The experience of moving into the world can challenge individuals attitudes and beliefs. Into the
world explores the aspects of growth, transition and change. The novel ' The Story of Tom Brennan'
by J.C Burke explores the different ways individuals grow when they are taken out of their comfort
zones and venture into new experiences. This concept is also conveyed within the song 'Fast Car' By
Tracy Chapman and the film 'Charlie st Cloud' Directed by Burr Steers. 'The Story of Tom Brennan'
follows the lives of the Brennan family after the events of a fatal car accident, it shows how Tom the
protagonist struggles to cope with his past, similarly the song 'Fast Car' is a representation of an

Her changing hairstyle is also representative of her fear and difficulty in facing challenges as they
lie ahead. The film Charlie st Cloud directed by Burr Steer, deals with a tragedy similar to the
catalyst for change found in Burkes novel. This film explores the perspective if the protagonist
Charlie who is involved in a fatal car crash resulting in the death of his younger brother Sam.
Gripped by remorse, guilt and fear Charlie abandons his future dreams and becomes the care taker
of the waterside cemetery, leaving his friends and future at collage behind. he is tied to the cemetery
via the ghostly appearances of his brother Sam, and friends that have ventured into the world and
passed away. Charlies fear and withdrawal is evident when the recurring shots of his now abandoned
sailing boat is juxtaposed with the possibilities of Charlie changing his life and moving into the
world. the boat becomes a symbolic motif for Charlies fear and guilt. Whilst in Burke's novel the
'hill' becomes a symbolic motive for facing fears and challenges. Facing transitions and dealing with
dramatic change has a influencing aspect on family and personal relationships, through the text we
see the dynamics of relationships and roles of family shift to meet the needs of each individual as
they face the challenge of moving in to the world before them. the manner in which the various

Response to Tracy Chapman, Cold Feet
Reading Response 3 Title: Cold Feet Author: Tracy Chapman Category: Song Lyrics The song Cold
Feet by Tracy Chapman is an inspirational song about how our wants and needs can drive us to not
only success but also to our graves. The song which was released in 1995 describes the story of how
one man had everything he could have dreamt for in life, love, a roof over his head and a loving
wife. But naturally in the society we live in not only today in the 21st century but also the society
that was mid 1990's, man desire more to satisfy themselves and others around them. Initially he
wanted to give himself more to keep him from suffering the hard times in life; the "Cold Feet".

The song "Cold Feet" is an artistic way of explaining exactly what can happen when one gets too
greedy with their life and desires more to show their worth. In the song, Tracy describes of how man
always wants to be an honest man and this is shown within the verse of "He'd struggled all his life to
be an honest man, Proud that the dirt on his palms was the soil of the land, but some guys he knew
from high school days said they had a plan to get rich quick". This I certainly can relate to as I
always want others to be proud of me and proud of what I have achieved in my life so far. If I feel
that I have not fulfilled this, then I will work harder to show them that they should be proud. When I
first heard this song, I was at a very young age and did not understand what the warning that the
lyrics were telling. I continued to work for peoples approval and would do anything to do so,
including wanting everything from "the sun and moon". It wasn't until listening to the song as a Year
12 student that I was able to understand the meaning behind the lyrics. After listening to the song
numerous times, I have now learnt valuable lessons about the life I have been gifted with. I have

spirit dress at practice is "America" in order to get excited for our game tomorrow at Phillips Exeter

Sarah Plumb and Marissa Gedman come over to tell us to go sit in a circle in the middle of the field,
giving Casey and Maura space. Not wanting to leave Casey's side, I reluctantly walk over to the
middle of the field. As I am walking away, my legs feel heavy and unreliable while they wobble
beneath me. Some of my teammates begin yelling to the trainers at the soccer field above to come
quickly and that it is an emergency. Almost instantaneously, I hear the zooming of the trainer's golf
cart come rushing over. My legs keep walking away from Casey, even though it is not what I want
them to do. I reach the circle of my teammates, and I slowly lower myself to the ground. I sit cross
legged with a glare fixed on the ground in front of me; the forest green, artificial grass pokes
through the densely packed, black, rubber pellets. I pull at pieces of this grass and fiddle with the
rubber pellets, pushing them into my sweaty palm and seeing if they will leave indentations. I
continue to do this as I see the coaches come over to update us, "Girls, we want to warn you that we
will have to call an ambulance, but we are hoping it is just an allergic reaction that Casey is having."
My eyes start to well with tears of confusion and anger. I begin to fiercely pull the artificial grass
apart to relieve my frustrations. My vision remains fixated on the turf, and I am lost in my own
thoughts as I question the situation around me for some

Song Analysis : Fast Car By Tracy Chapman
Fast Car
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman is a powerful song about a young woman who is endevouring to make it
by in life. She is living a very poor, and underpriviledged lifestyle, her father is an alcoholic, and her
mother withdrew from her life to make a better life for herself. Unfortunately, that is the only thing
that this young woman wants to do, make a better life for herself. With her father being sick and
stuck to the bottle, she is forced to drop out of school and take care of him. Dreaming of running
away and starting a new life was the only thing that was keeping her going.
Within the first two verses of the song, this young woman presents an issue that is all to common for
many people. She has big dreams and wants to make a name for herself but in order to succumb to
making that dream a reality, she would have to desert the loved ones

Essay about Demonstrative Cake Pop Speech
Outline For Demonstration Speech

General Purpose: To demonstrate
Specific Purpose: To demonstrate to my audience how to make a delicious and simple cake pop.

I. Introduction:
A. Attention Getter: In 2012 Starbucks made over $13.29 billion dollars. With that amount of money
you could buy eight billion, eight hundred and sixty million of their cake pops. Though that seems
like enough cake pops to satisfy anyones appitite I highly doubt that most of us have thirteen billion
dollars to spend. B. Credibility: According to newspressnow.com, last updated May 8th 2012 "The

If I wanted a picture I'd buy a painting."
The second part is where the fun part actually starts, you're going to add one or two heaping
spoonfuls of regular white frosting to the crumbled up cake you have.
Keep adding frosting until you get the consistency pretty doughy, but still firm enough to handle.
After kneeding the dough thoroughly you're going to want to roll the dough out inch size balls.
A normal box of cake mix should make about 20 cake pops.
After all the balls are rolled out, they should go in the fridge or freezer for about a half an hour to
help them set. After those agonizing thirty minutes are up, you're able to take the cake pops out of
the refrigerator or freezer, and then melt some almond bark.
After dipping the stick in the almond bark, you're going to want to stick it about halfway through the
now official "cake pop".
The chocolate on the stick is to help the stick stay sturdy while you actually eat the sweet treat.
When you've finished putting the sticks into each of the cake balls, you should put them back into
the refrigerator in order to help the chocolate solidify.
Transition:
The last part we're going to focus on is probably the most simple. Decorating the cake pop.
Using the previously melted almond bark, you can simply dip the cake pop in and spread a thin
layer of chocolate all around the pop.
While the chocolate is still wet, feel free to decorate in any way you'd like. For today I just used
simple sprinkles but there

Humor In The Chahonesque
Introduction Humour is an universal human characteristic which all cultures posses. In the British
society it is important to have humour, because it is seen as demonstration of health and well

the storytelling tradition along with the ironies that resulted from the juxtaposition of people from
different classes and points of view.Britain's ancient class system has always been a mystery to

Negative Essay On Technology For Animals
Technology for Animals
Often technology is taken too far but is technology for animals taking it too far? Thinking about it
there is technology for animals which has been around for quite some time just not anything too
crazy. Technology that has been around since 2003 is a tracker that is most commonly used on birds
working as GPS tracking. Like technology for humans it can have positive and negative effects It
can be helping the animals for example a 3D printing of a bird's beak or hurting them by drones
scaring or getting too close to wild life. A lot of the current technology is being designed is for
service dogs to help their owners, for example, the FIDO project. Their main goal being able to use
technology to create an accessible way for the dog to help their owner. Technology for animals can
be helpful for people who need it but technology may change our relationships with our animals.
The FIDO project is more of a recent project that focuses on giving people with disabilities the
chance for their service dog to potentially save their life. Owners who require a service animal have
special bond because they do have to depend a lot on their animal. Newer points out the most of
technology made for animals "is not designed with the animals' experience in mind." This wearable

Hockey Stick History
Many of you are perhaps aware of the "World's Oldest Known Hockey Stick" that was in the news a
couple of years ago. Its most recent former owner, Mark Presley of Berwick, NS, sold it to the
Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec in January of 2015 for $300,000. Presley
happened upon the stick during the year 2000 as it hung on the wall of a North Sydney barber shop.
The building's proprietor at the time, George Ferneyhiugh, who has since retired from the
haircutting trade, had it hanging there since the early 1980s. The relic's original owner was William
Moffatt of North Sydney's Pottle Lake area and it is referred to as the "Moffatt Stick." Carved into
the stick's blade are the initials, "WM." In 2008 Presley purchased the stick from Ferneyhiugh for a
sum of $1,000 and then proceeded to find out the relic's long history. He took the stick to Mount
Allison University in Sackville, NB where experts in dendrochronology –– the science of dating
events through the study of growth rings in trees –– performed tests. They determined that the stick's
wood came from a tree that was chopped down somewhere between 1835 and 1838 making it the
oldest known hockey stick. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fast Car Tracy Chapman Analysis
Fast Car, written and performed by Tracy Chapman, describes a life of a young girl becoming a
young woman. The song details the pain she has been through at the hands of the people she loved
and her dream of a better life ahead.
The word "fast" is used with different meanings. The car's speed is what will be her quickest way to
leave her current life behind, and quickly into the new life she desires (1). The word "fast" is not
only a reference to the speed of the car, but also the speed of life. She is ready to grow up and fast
forward her life to her future of a good life.
As a child she was abandoned by her mother, and she was forced to quit school to care for father due
to his alcoholism. "I said somebody's got to take care of him" (23). ... Show more content on

She quickly realized she alone was the only person she could count on. This hardship forces her to
think of a solution to have a future; to go after her dreams. She feels so alone and hopeless that she
thinks anyplace is better (5).
She finds her way out from her father in a fast car driven by an even faster boy. The boy is not much
better off than she is but he does have a car and she has the money to take them away (12). She has
to make the decision to leave and search for a better life or die slowly in the life she has now. "We
can leave tonight or live and die this way" (28). She feels it is either now or never.
Wilson 2
At the moment of her flight from her previous life, she believes there are so many possibilities. Life
is now a clean slate to begin their lives together. It is not alcohol that makes her dizzy "speed so fast
I felt like I was drunk" (30) but the intoxication of the excitement of the moment. It is the thought of
the unknown that makes her dizzy with anticipation. As she sees the lights of the city growing closer
(31) and feels the speed of the car building so does her excitement. In her heart, she finally feels like
she matters and she feels safe with the love of her life by her

The Harp Research Paper
The Harp
"There is a legend passed down from generation to generation of a great harp. This harp is no
ordinary harp, it is said to be magical. The harp is also said to grant anyone's wish. Legend has it
that the harp is somewhere here in the Rocky Mountains," Earle told his son Xavier. Xavier's face
was lit with a spark of curiosity and excitement.
His father had told him this 3 years ago, when he was only 11. Now his father is ill. Earle can't
afford a doctor so Xavier decided to hunt for the harp. Xavier did not set out on his journey
unprepared and alone, though. Xavier brought along his dog named Buddy, a pocket knife, water,

"This stick will be too big for me to use" he thought to himself. "Oh!" he exclaimed, suddenly
having thought of an idea. He pulled out his pocket knife and started whittling away at the stick until
he had cut a good chunk of it off.
He picked up the stick using it as a support and continued walking towards the sound. He came
across a parting area between the trees and walked through. Across the raging river, he saw the
magic harp of the legend. "So it's true, it really is true.", he whispered to himself.
Then he realized the raging river that stands between him and the harp, "How am I going to cross
that? Huh." He saw more sticks across the way and started to put them together to look like a raft.
He then went to a tree nearby to cut a vine and tied the raft together. He pushed the raft onto the
shore. Xavier and Buddy both got on the raft and with the walking stick as a paddle, they took off
into the river. The raging river shook the raft so hard and Xavier managed to hold on. Buddy was not
as lucky, however. Buddy fell into the river and got carried off by the strong current. Xavier

glistened in the sunlight as if each speck of glitter was a flame. The cream colored carpet was

Each gear had its own purpose, its own speed, its own characteristics, and I had no idea what they

that I had no idea how to drive it. I had been surrounded by manual transmissions for my entire life,
but learning how to drive one was just something I had never quite mastered. Every time someone
had tired to teach me, all that seemed to follow was nervous laughter, anxiety on overdrive, "killing"

boyfriend, etc. finish the trip. You would think that with all of my humiliating memories with stick

life I was not going to shy away from shifting. I was going to prove to all those doubters that I could
drive any car I wanted to, wherever I wanted to, and that the fact that it was an automatic or standard
did not matter to me. The memories of terror and uneasiness were quickly thrown out of my mind as
I signed on the dotted line. This car was mine, whether I knew how to drive it or

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
There is a little evil deep down beneath most people. Lord of the Flies, by Nobel–Prize winning
English author William Golding, describes the journey of a group of young boys who wake up
stranded on an deserted island and describes how they try to survive, all while trying to get rescued.
The struggles of survival demonstrate the savagery and transformation of some boys adapting to the
environment on the island. Many of the boys become wild animals although there are three in
particular who show their inner beast the most, Jack, Roger and the Lord of the Flies himself.
Paragraph 2 – Subtopic A
Quotes:
–"Kill the pig, bash him in, kill the pig cut his throat"
–Use a littlun

Jack is one of the boys who tries to destroy Ralph's group rather than work with them. Jack becomes
a dominant dictator and overpowers the others (how? will you explain this?). As the novel
progresses, the dark side of humanity takes over Jack and his thoughts of survival. Firstly, Jack
declares that anyone holding the conch may have the right to speak in front of the group. We
actually see Jack contributing to the whole group and giving suggestions as to how the boys may
actually survive. "'Ralph, I'll split up the choir–my hunters, that is –into groups, and we'll be
responsible for keeping the fire going." (Golding 59) His dark side is obviously demonstrated when
Robert, the boy who stands in for the boar in the reenactment, is nearly killed as the other boys

Sounding box with lower metal bracket for strings
This sounding box dates back to the 19th century, and it originated from Iran. The creator of this
object is unknown. This sounding box was probably used in a very specific stringed instrument,
such as a tar, in order to help pronounce its sound. The sounding box looks like a half circle made of
wood with a metal pole sticking through it. The top half of it has what appears to be some sort of

Everyone had seen the fight, and during the fight, everyone decided to record it. A lot of people
called the Police because they wanted to put a stop to the Victorians. Next thing you know, the cops

The Lord Of The Flies: Scene Analysis
When scenes from William Golding's novel, The Lord of the Flies, have been deleted, the story
becomes packed with nonstop fascination. Because The Lord of the Flies is way too long, cuts need
to be made. William Golding incorporates many scenes into the book that are unnecessary;
therefore, several scenes are to be deleted from the book to bring out the overall importance of the
story. However, there are certain scenes that are to be left alone to preserve the meaning of the book
about how society falls apart without adults.
The first momentous scene in The Lord of the Flies is when Ralph is elected chief. As a result of
Ralph being elected chief, it shows how respected he is towards the beginning of the book. Since

This scene represents the lack of civilization. It shows what happens when things get out of control,
when there are no laws or regulations, and when Ralph starts to lose his authority over the boys.
Specifically, this is when the author states, "Jack held up the head and jammed the soft throat down
on the pointed end of the stick which pierced through into the mouth. He stood back and the head
hung there, a little blood dribbling down the stick" (p. 136). A good majority of the boys have
become inhumane savages. For instance, it isn't normal for a hunter to cut off an animal's head, put
it on a stick, and leave it in the woods. Jack and his hunters used to be the type of hunters that felt
bad when they killed an animal. Now, they are inconsiderate hunters that could care less about how
they hurt living things. Ralph, being a kid, isn't the same as if there was an adult around. Due to the
lack of age difference, Ralph can't keep the sanity and authority for very long because the boys don't
see him as any better than the rest of the boys on the island. Once the boys start to realize that Ralph
is just a kid, and he can't really control their actions, they rebel. Without an older adult around to
keep the peace, most of the boys don't seem to care what they do. Overall, this scene portrays the
beginning of their rebellion against Ralph's upper

In Carr's personal experience, he explains that he missed the "sense of control and involvement they
had given me– the ability to rev the engine as high as I wanted, the feel of the clutch releasing and
the gears grabbing, the tiny thrill that came with a downshift at speed" (5–6). The automatic vehicle
effectively made driving much easier but took away the driver's need to work hard. As the
development of the automatic car makes driving extremely easier, taking away a stress factor causes
a drift in the mind and a lack of focus on the current tasks at hand. Carr presents this idea in the
development of autopilots in airplanes. The autopilot in the airplane by technicality flies the plane
instead of the human pilot. In emergency situations, the pilot will be given and take upon manual
control of the plane to attend to situations that autopilot is not prepared to handle. What causes this
to fail is not the computer controlling the plane but the human pilot takeover. In specific cases when
planes have crashed, the autopilots were not aware of the situation during the takeover because their
focus of the task had drifted. Carr quotes Hermant Bhana that, "'As automation has gained in
sophistication, the role of the pilot has shifted toward becoming a monitor or supervisor of the
automation.'The commercial pilot has become a computer operator" (53).

it last. With quail being so small, he couldn't throw anything out except the intestines and bones. He
had to eat everything. Even the little head and feet.
The entire night he wrestled in his sleep, delirious in pain. At some point, his mind shut off and he
was able to drift into sleep.
He dreamt of horses and the hoofbeats stopping at the base of Sailor Rock, just as the day before. He
fought frantically to get to them, but still being asleep, it was only in his head. That is until a man's
voice shouted in the distance and another's shouted back. Greg suddenly awoke and bolted upright,
banging his head on the cave's low ceiling. The voices were real, the hoofbeats were real–but they
were leaving.
Shouting as loud as he could, Greg pulled himself out of the cave, determined not to miss them. He
cried out in acute desperate pain, and his leg screamed back at him as he pulled himself on his
stomach across the rock calling out to them the whole

Personal Narrative Essay : Sweet Childhood Memories
Sweet Childhood Memories We all have a beautiful place in our mind. I have a wonderful place that
make me happy. Perhaps out of all my siblings I was the only one who believed that this place was
amazing. This place has created many memories in the past and still till this day creating more
memories. In my eyes my father's house is the best thing that happen to me in my childhood. As I
visit my father's house it brings me back to my childhood. My father lives in Fairport, Ohio and as I
drive up the driveway you can see a giant white beautiful porch full of black and white furniture that
makes it even more beautiful. First, the giant white porch where we all sat to talk about everything
then, the smells of food coming out the door as they call us inside to eat. As I walk up the stairs all I
smell is food which makes my stomach start growling because how heavenly it smells. Sometimes I
would be sitting down on the porch looking at the sunny sky and the smell of my father's rice and
beans makes me race inside to see if the white rice with the red beans and fried chicken would be
ready soon. You can smell the sweet and milky flan that he makes every Sunday. When we get ready
to sit together for dinner you can see the table full with all types of different foods such as: Rice,
beans, chicken, sometimes pork or even fish then the sweet desserts come next to the juicy meats the
flans, sweet pies and sometimes even cake which always was sweet and moist. Finally, the treehouse
that would make my eyes sparkle are all the things that make my visit to my father's house
incredible. The best times to sit out on the porch is when it is raining outside because you can watch
the dark sky full of clouds just pouring down and you can see the tree leaves dancing in the wind.
When we have family reunions or even little parties, you would see the porch full with all the adults
sitting gossiping and drinking their wines or beers. Not only is the porch an adult hangout spot but
it's the safe zone for the kids. The porch is my favorite place because no matter how old I got it
always makes me feel welcome. While enjoying a stroll through the

My Special Day

  • 1. My Special Day Today is my dad's birthday! I know that we are inviting some close friends over to celebrate his special day, but no one is here at the moment. Because none of my friends have shown up, I begin to play by myself. I know they are coming but I thought they would be here by now. I am lonely and I wish someone was here to play with me. As people are filling the yard, I am not recognizing any of the adults at the party. As of now, I am alone so I take my dog Goldie out to the deepest part of my backyard. 5:00pm Friday the 6th As I wonder when the cake will be served, I look back to my house. I continue playing with the sticks that are in front of me. Since I am by myself, I try to stack the sticks on top of one another. Bored, I walk through my yard to see if I recognize anyone. I find a huge stick on the ground, which grabs my attention. I always love clearing out the backyard with sticks so I continue on my way. As I pick up the stick, I swing it around like a sword. I find the perfect spot to start whacking at the weeds, until I hear footsteps behind me. Who could that be? I thought Goldie was the only one with me. I still hear the footsteps. 9:00 pm Friday the 6th Walking through my back yard, I find the boy who will change my life. I do not recognize this boy, which means my parents must know his parents. As I look at him, I see that his cloths are smudged with dirt, and his hair is in standing at a point. He is tall and big for someone who is only a few years older than ... • 2. The Love Languages Of The Children It is a universal truth that we all need love in our lives. We all have different ways in which we like to receive and give love. Many of us may not even realize that we do. Gary Chapman writes about five different ways in which we love and titles them five love languages. It is important to identify how we love, because it can allow us to have a happier life and make other people's lives better. It is especially important to identify the love languages of the children which we encounter, because it can shape their identity either for the better or worse. There are five major love languages that can be identified and can pretty much sum up the best ways we can express our love. The five love languages are touch, words of affirmation, giving, time, and service. A child's love language can be identified in two ways, through observation and through communication, which pretty much also depends on their love language. We can observe the child and see if he enjoys touching his parents and siblings, or if he does things and then looks to see what the parent will say or perhaps just sits next to their siblings and follows them around. Love languages are adaptable and although most humans have all the love languages, some are stronger than others. The love languages of the parents effects what the love languages of the children will be. For example if the parents hug a lot or if they buy gifts for each other the child can adopt that gift and want to use it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pretivation Of Child Observation On Child And Children I observed a male with a female child (approximately 2 years of age) walking around the store to buy some hot food to eat. The adult carries a basket in one hand and the other hand holds the child's hand. The child wants to hold the basket which it is full of fresh vegetables and frying sausages and sticky rice. The adult bends down and says, "You can't carry the basket because it's very heavy and you are still small to carry it. You may hurt yourself. Okay?" The child looks a little sad and replies, "Okay." The adult then continues as they both walking away, the adult says, "You can carry it when you get older like Daddy, ok?" The child replied with "okay!" The method observed was the Cognitive Method (Reasoning) The evidence supports that this socialization method as cognitive method (reasoning) was that the male explained to the child that the child was still small and she shouldn't be carry a heavy basket because she may hurt herself. What you observed I observed a small group of 4 people, 1 male and 1 female adults and 2 female child (approximately 1 ½ and 3 years of age) blowing bubbles at the park. The male shows both child to blow bubbles out of a bubble stick. The adult male would try to blow the bubbles first and then gives the two girls a chance to blow the bubbles. The older child tries to blow air into the whole of the bubble stick but nothing happens. The adult male shows the child with encouragement and says, "You have to blow air slowly like ... After dinner I told my mom that I had left something on top of the mountain, so she said "'go up to get it Mary. But she didn't want me to go alone so I went to go see if my friend was home but he wasn't so I disobeyed my moms rules and went up by myself anyway. So I went out and started looking for something to eat, but I couldn't find anything, then out of the corner of my eye I saw a rabbit so I jumped for But unfortunately I missed and the rabbit hopped away. So I went back to the camp, and I sat there and I was thinking how was I going to catch any animals then it hit me.I started out in the woods looking of a curved stick and eventually after looking for one for about twenty minutes I found one I tried to break it but it was to hard so it was a good stick. So I started walking back to camp when I got there I took one of my shoelaces and tied it to the stick the shoelace was nice and sturdy so I knew this was going to be a good bow. So the next day I went out to the woods again and started looking for arrows. I found a few good sticks and took them back to camp and started sharpening them. I put a little crease in the end of the arrow and then put in the quiver then I shot it and surprisingly it went pretty far probably a good 20 feet. So I took it out and started looking for food then I saw it a rabbit sitting right in front of me I put the arrow in the quiver and I shot it. I took it back to camp and I realized I had to skin it so I used my rock knife to skin it and I found another straight stick to stab the rabbit and then I cooked it over the fire. I was ... • 5. Tracy Chapman Tracy Chapman – Fast Car In Tracy Chapman's song "fast car", the speaker deals with her reality and longs for a better life situation. By using the metaphor "fast car", she wants to describe an incisive moment in her life. The woman supports this with words which are associated with this conveyance and talks about the escape from her old, deadlocked life to a new place, where she wants to be able to start all over again. The speaker opens the song with expressing her desire of a conveyance, that takes her away from her present surroundings. She is longing for somebody to rescue her, a company that takes her into a better life, where she can be able to start all over again. With her statement "you got a fast car", the speaker is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was the driver of the car as well, her boyfriend, who was next to her during that turning point in her life. Together, they were driving towards a new place, a place where they could start a new beginning: "Your arm felt nice wrapped round my shoulder." For the first time after her mother had left the family, it was somebody else that took care of her and not the other way around. She had somebody besides her that supported and protected her. For the first time after a long while, she felt being loved. However, towards the end of the song, the woman is no longer talking about "we" and is using the words "you" and "I" instead. This splitting up can be related to their relationship. Fearing that her partner would convert into the same person as her father, the speaker is not only splitting up the word "we", she is also splitting up with him. "You got a fast car / but is it fast enough so you can fly away". No longer is she talking about "so that we can fly away". With those words, she is making an explicit request that he should leave her and his children. She wants him to sit in his car alone and to drive away, just as she did some time ago, in the hope that the speed of the fast car would change his life situation as well. In conclusion, one can see that despite of the title of the song and the repeated use of it, "fast car" is not the main aspect of the song, but rather the meanings and feelings that are associated with it. • 6. Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Professor Observing any history class presents the graduate student with a new perspective on how to teach the subject of history. While it is true that every professor has his/her distinct way of teaching a class that is unique, the pedagogical methods used in class make a difference in how effective the professor is in lecturing on a certain subject. It can be a given that not every professor is effective in being successful, giving way to certain strengths and weaknesses in his/her lecture style. For the class that I observed, there were notable and significant strengths that professor effectively utilized, but additionally there were a couple of weaknesses that are worth highlighting. It is first important to address the strengths of the professor. One of the first things that I noticed was effective when observing this professor was how she used technology to her benefit. The use of technology in a classroom setting can be advantageous to the professor, but can additionally prove to be challenging. An example of how technology can be both beneficial and disadvantageous can be seen in the particular lecture that I observed. The professor relied heavily on the use of PowerPoint during this particular lecture. Where she had tons of information on certain slides, the students around me wrote with an ambitious fervor in order to record every word present on certain slides that were crammed with information. This was a notable weakness in the pedagogical style of the professor, but where there was a weakness there was a notable strength that professor effectively employed. When such slides appeared to the students, the professor took her time in explaining the material so that the students had ample time to record the information. Additionally, the professor made key mentions as to what information was vital to what the students should write down, successfully reducing the amount of stress on the students in the class to record each and every word on the slide. However, the most key strength the professor effectively performed regarding the use of technology in her class was how efficient she was in not reading the information word for word from the projector. This allowed for the professor to pace around the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Fast Car By Tracy Chapman Music is often just a medium, utilized by artists, to paint a vivid picture in the minds of the listener. As a listener, often you can be caught off guard by the artists ability to do so. In the song fast car by Tracy Chapman, the incredible singer/songwriter will do just that. She will render an image so graphic, and so dramatic, that you will swear that you were walking in the shoes of the woman she sings about in her song. The gracefully flowing melody and emotionally evolving lyrics transport you through an undeniably extraordinary journey of joy and sorrow, all within the confines of a four minute and fifty–nine second song. Fast Car by Tracy Chapman is a powerful song about a young woman who is endeavoring to make it by in life. • 8. Fast Car Tracy Chapman Poetic Techniques The song "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman revolves around who we assume is Chapman, or another first–person point–of–view, and their lover. They both are itching to get out of the town they're living in and move to the city. Chapman ends up coming to terms and accepting her situation in the city, while her lover is the opposite. In "Fast Car", Chapman uses juxtaposition and subtle changes in her repetition to convey the idea that the feeling of escape is fleeting unless you actively work to make the best of your situation. In the song, the speaker is Chapman herself, or a character she has created. They seem to be talking to the antagonist, her partner, but it's not clear whether she's talking to them face to face or not. The whole song is about their elopement from their old town to the city, and them either coming to terms with their new life or still not being satisfied. This would mean that the conflict is internal, as it isn't Chapman's fault her lover isn't settling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second half of the song, Chapman says, "you still ain't got a job / and I work in the market as a checkout girl" (line 36–37). This shows that even after they have left their old town behind, that her lover isn't settling into their new life in the city. This theme continues later when she says, "I got a job that pays all our bills / you stay out drinking late at the bar / see more of your friends than you do your kids" (49–50). This line not only shows a passing of time, but continues to prove that they are not adjusting or even working towards adjusting to their new life. They seem to still want that feeling of ... • 9. How Modern Works Help Embrace the Classical The tale of Hero and Leander, a story birthed from ancient Greek mythology, is a powerful story captured through the words of Christopher Marlowe in his almost epic poem "Hero and Leander." Although Christopher Marlowe was unable to complete this work before his untimely death, his poem lived on to be know as one of his masterpieces. His work has spawned multiple remixes, each with their own style and value. The excerpt of "Hero and Leander" we will focus on is the very beginning of the poem. Here Christopher Marlowe sets the stage. The focus begins with the background. Two cities, opposing each other on either sides of the Hellespont (a body of water). After only a few lines, Marlowe shifts focus from the cities and towards Hero, one of the main characters in the story. The interesting thing here is that Marlowe does not give much attention to the details of the story, but rather dives into an intense seen of imagery regarding Hero. Marlowe, an a successful attempt to convey the Hero's beauty, says "Her kirtle blue, whereon was many a stain, Made with the blood of wretched lovers slain" (29). Not only did she have many suitors, but their love for her wash dashed down like a man being slain. Then Marlowe goes on to say "Many would praise the sweet smell as she past... And there for honey bees have sought in vain" (41). This imagery shows that Hero was so beautiful that even nature could not stay away from her. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, one could argue that man, in the state of nature, is born evil. The boys in the novel, represent a metaphorical idea in which they are born unto the island, and manifest mankind's true nature. As the story progresses, the boys construct a society and ruin it. They revert to the primitive association in which fear and tyranny lead to ultimate rule. All of the boys that try to do the proper and befitting deeds are killed off. That is, something that cannot be feigned, faked, or imitated. Simon is an individual. He is far different from the other boys––he is virtuous. Yet, one could still argue that he is only pure of heart because he is not quite all there; Simon is an epileptic. It would not be fair to judge him alongside the other boys, for if he were normal, he may have been just as evil as them––another Roger perhaps. Ralph is also one of the better boys on the island––better, being only a relative term. That is, though Ralph is not quasi Roger, he still has his ill characteristics. Ralph himself takes place in the murder of Simon. He was only doing it out of fear, but none the less, he still took a life. Ralph, "treats the day's decisions as though he were playing chess. The only trouble was that he would never be a very good chess player." (106). The fact that Ralph makes bad decisions does mark him as somewhat of an evil character. If we are speaking in terms of Simon being good and Roger being evil, Ralph lies inbetween them. He takes part in hunting and killing, yet what separates Ralph from other boys is the fact that he takes responsibility for his actions––the others do not. Ronnie replies, "Not really." He was, however, excited to see his friends that he hasn't seen since summer break. Ronnie gets up and dresses up in the best outfit he could find to impress his friends. Not an overly extravagant accomplishment, but I certainly learned a lot from it. Just a little over six years into the world, on a day so hot I could practically taste burnt air, my father took my two sisters and me down to the barn. It wasn't the most attractive place in the world, but to my eyes it was an adventure waiting to happen. It was almost like a superhero set–up –– I, the favored protagonist, the cows the nefarious villains, and my sisters the damsels in distress. My feet bounded forward in a blaze of six year old glory. The glitzy rainbows on my tennis shoes shone in the sun, my ponytail whipped my face, and my body moved onwards; ready for action. With careful precision I scanned the ground, looking for some sort of weapon. Since there isn't much of an arsenal in a cow field, I sought out a stick. And what a wonderful stick it was! The pair of hands that usually picked up toys and Cheerios snatched the small branch. Putting my entire body into motion, I let my weapon fly. My body's momentum sent it in a direct line; hurtling towards the target. My throw was decently aimed, and the stick struck home on an unfortunate cow's behind. Time crawled to a stop and the branch seemed to hang in the air for a moment before clattering to the ground. One beat of silence. Two. • 14. Creative Writing In The Lord Of The Flies By William Golding William Golding has a very dark and distinctive style in his writing. Golding served in WWII thus causing his view of the innate nature of man to be obscured and altered from the truth. He believes that evil lives within the heart of every man and sooner or later, it will come to rise. Throughout the novel, it is clear to see many of the elements that reflect the dark nature of Golding's writing. From the boys throwing rocks at the boys just for kicks to the Lord of the Flies, pure evil is presented to the eyes of the reader. Golding's most distinct style would have to be accredited to his use of description. In many scenes, an ordinary action is presented in a completely new fashion due to the use of breathtaking descriptive diction. Golding didn't forget to describe other details that would pull the story together as a whole, such as the very intricate detail of the Jungle and how Jack's sweat would, ever so slightly, bead among his forehead. In the heart–wrenching scene where Simon is murdered and is revealed to the reader as the dead body in the sea illuminated by the fluorescent jellyfish like creatures, the reader is able to get a clear and detailed "painting" of the scene, almost like the reader is there, in first person, experiencing the heart break. • 16. The Paradox In Mary Oliver's Crossing The Swamp In Mary Oliver's "Crossing the Swamp", the speaker compares a swamp to the struggles and hardships in life that fight against her. The speaker repeatedly contrasts herself to the swamp to emphasize the vastness of the swamp, conveying how the speaker understands the hardships that come with life. The speaker describes the swamp as a "wet thick cosmos [...] ーthe nugget". The paradox compares the vast "cosmos" with a small golden "nugget," contrasting how the experience the speaker is going through may be on a small scale such as the "nugget", but may be large and vast like a "cosmos". The nugget is described with caesuras, and the caesuras are repeated five times throughout the poem. They act as an interruption in the poem, conveying that the speaker cannot smoothly walk through the swamp and the journey is labor–intensive. As the speaker goes through the swamp, she experiences "branching vines, the dark burred faintly belching bogs". The alliteration of the hard "b" sound emphasizes how the speaker is fighting against the struggles in the swamp to get through. The struggles are emphasized as she goes through "pathless, seamless, peerless mud". The scarcity of the mud is described with the repeated use of "less" and the speaker indicates how the mud is moveless and still. The image is further expanded with the comparison to life, and how life requires individuals to make their own path through their life and that the universe does not simply create paths for each individual. She then feels her "bones knock together at the pale joints" as she tries to grasp "for foothold, fingerhold, mindhold over" the mud. The descriptions increase her sense of powerlessness in the vast cosmos she is in. Her mindset shifts as she struggles over "such slick crossings, deep hipholes, hummocks that sink silently into the black, slack earthsoup". The repeated sibilants emphasizes how she is slowly sinking into the mud. However, she is not resisting but is accepting the mud and the fact that she has no control over it. The acceptance contrasts her earlier struggles with the "belching bogs" that she fought against. Mud symbolizing life's struggles itself, the speaker learns to accept the challenges ahead of her. A normal box of cake mix should make about 20 cake pops. After all the balls are rolled out, they should go in the fridge or freezer for about a half an hour to help them set. Its most recent former owner, Mark Presley of Berwick, NS, sold it to the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec in January of 2015 for $300,000. Presley happened upon the stick during the year 2000 as it hung on the wall of a North Sydney barber shop. The building's proprietor at the time, George Ferneyhiugh, who has since retired from the haircutting trade, had it hanging there since the early 1980s. The relic's original owner was William Moffatt of North Sydney's Pottle Lake area and it is referred to as the "Moffatt Stick." Carved into the stick's blade are the initials, "WM." In 2008 Presley purchased the stick from Ferneyhiugh for a sum of $1,000 and then proceeded to find out the relic's long history. He took the stick to Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB where experts in dendrochronology –– the science of dating events through the study of growth rings in trees –– performed tests. The car's speed is what will be her quickest way to leave her current life behind, and quickly into the new life she desires (1). • 27. The Harp Research Paper The Harp "There is a legend passed down from generation to generation of a great harp. This harp is no ordinary harp, it is said to be magical. The harp is also said to grant anyone's wish. Legend has it that the harp is somewhere here in the Rocky Mountains," Earle told his son Xavier. Xavier's face was lit with a spark of curiosity and excitement. His father had told him this 3 years ago, when he was only 11. Now his father is ill. Earle can't afford a doctor so Xavier decided to hunt for the harp. Xavier did not set out on his journey unprepared and alone, though. Xavier brought along his dog named Buddy, a pocket knife, water, plenty of food, and last of all, a map of the area. At the first light of dawn, Xavier and Buddy headed off ... "This stick will be too big for me to use" he thought to himself. "Oh!" he exclaimed, suddenly having thought of an idea. He pulled out his pocket knife and started whittling away at the stick until he had cut a good chunk of it off. He picked up the stick using it as a support and continued walking towards the sound. He came across a parting area between the trees and walked through. Across the raging river, he saw the magic harp of the legend. "So it's true, it really is true.", he whispered to himself. Then he realized the raging river that stands between him and the harp, "How am I going to cross that? Huh." He saw more sticks across the way and started to put them together to look like a raft. He then went to a tree nearby to cut a vine and tied the raft together. He pushed the raft onto the shore. Xavier and Buddy both got on the raft and with the walking stick as a paddle, they took off into the river. The raging river shook the raft so hard and Xavier managed to hold on. Buddy was not as lucky, however. Buddy fell into the river and got carried off by the strong current. Xavier screamed and cried for Buddy but he could not help his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The exterior had no scratches, dents, or marks of any kind. The gold color glistened in the sunlight as if each speck of glitter was a flame. The cream colored carpet was spotless. My thoughts were fixated on the fact that I was going to get a new convertible, not the fact that I had no idea how to drive it. I had been surrounded by manual transmissions for my entire life, but learning how to drive one was just something I had never quite mastered. Every time someone had tired to teach me, all that seemed to follow was nervous laughter, anxiety on overdrive, "killing" the car many times, and then usually ending up with me pulling over and letting my mom, dad, boyfriend, etc. finish the trip. You would think that with all of my humiliating memories with stick shifts that I would immediately run away in terror from anything with a clutch. Well, for once in my life I was not going to shy away from shifting. I was going to prove to all those doubters that I could drive any car I wanted to, wherever I wanted to, and that the fact that it was an automatic or standard did not matter to me. The memories of terror and uneasiness were quickly thrown out of my mind as I signed on the dotted line. This car was mine, whether I knew how to drive it or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Lord Of The Flies By William Golding There is a little evil deep down beneath most people. Lord of the Flies, by Nobel–Prize winning English author William Golding, describes the journey of a group of young boys who wake up stranded on an deserted island and describes how they try to survive, all while trying to get rescued. The struggles of survival demonstrate the savagery and transformation of some boys adapting to the environment on the island. Many of the boys become wild animals although there are three in particular who show their inner beast the most, Jack, Roger and the Lord of the Flies himself. Paragraph 2 – Subtopic A Quotes: –"Kill the pig, bash him in, kill the pig cut his throat" –Use a littlun – highlighted area...will be changing Jack is one of the boys who tries to destroy Ralph's group rather than work with them. Jack becomes a dominant dictator and overpowers the others (how? will you explain this?). As the novel progresses, the dark side of humanity takes over Jack and his thoughts of survival. Firstly, Jack declares that anyone holding the conch may have the right to speak in front of the group. We actually see Jack contributing to the whole group and giving suggestions as to how the boys may actually survive. "'Ralph, I'll split up the choir–my hunters, that is –into groups, and we'll be responsible for keeping the fire going." (Golding 59) His dark side is obviously demonstrated when Robert, the boy who stands in for the boar in the reenactment, is nearly killed as the other boys ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the show closing in on two decades it remains as strong and relevant as it was in 1997. • 34. The Lord Of The Flies: Scene Analysis When scenes from William Golding's novel, The Lord of the Flies, have been deleted, the story becomes packed with nonstop fascination. Because The Lord of the Flies is way too long, cuts need to be made. William Golding incorporates many scenes into the book that are unnecessary; therefore, several scenes are to be deleted from the book to bring out the overall importance of the story. However, there are certain scenes that are to be left alone to preserve the meaning of the book about how society falls apart without adults. The first momentous scene in The Lord of the Flies is when Ralph is elected chief. As a result of Ralph being elected chief, it shows how respected he is towards the beginning of the book. Since there are no adults on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scene represents the lack of civilization. It shows what happens when things get out of control, when there are no laws or regulations, and when Ralph starts to lose his authority over the boys. Specifically, this is when the author states, "Jack held up the head and jammed the soft throat down on the pointed end of the stick which pierced through into the mouth. He stood back and the head hung there, a little blood dribbling down the stick" (p. 136). A good majority of the boys have become inhumane savages. For instance, it isn't normal for a hunter to cut off an animal's head, put it on a stick, and leave it in the woods. Jack and his hunters used to be the type of hunters that felt bad when they killed an animal. Now, they are inconsiderate hunters that could care less about how they hurt living things. Ralph, being a kid, isn't the same as if there was an adult around. Due to the lack of age difference, Ralph can't keep the sanity and authority for very long because the boys don't see him as any better than the rest of the boys on the island. Once the boys start to realize that Ralph is just a kid, and he can't really control their actions, they rebel. In Carr's personal experience, he explains that he missed the "sense of control and involvement they had given me– the ability to rev the engine as high as I wanted, the feel of the clutch releasing and the gears grabbing, the tiny thrill that came with a downshift at speed" (5–6). The automatic vehicle effectively made driving much easier but took away the driver's need to work hard. As the development of the automatic car makes driving extremely easier, taking away a stress factor causes a drift in the mind and a lack of focus on the current tasks at hand. Carr presents this idea in the development of autopilots in airplanes. The autopilot in the airplane by technicality flies the plane instead of the human pilot. In emergency situations, the pilot will be given and take upon manual control of the plane to attend to situations that autopilot is not prepared to handle. What causes this to fail is not the computer controlling the plane but the human pilot takeover. In specific cases when planes have crashed, the autopilots were not aware of the situation during the takeover because their focus of the task had drifted. Carr quotes Hermant Bhana that, "'As automation has gained in sophistication, the role of the pilot has shifted toward becoming a monitor or supervisor of the automation.'The commercial pilot has become a computer operator" (53). ... In my eyes my father's house is the best thing that happen to me in my childhood. As I visit my father's house it brings me back to my childhood. My father lives in Fairport, Ohio and as I drive up the driveway you can see a giant white beautiful porch full of black and white furniture that makes it even more beautiful. First, the giant white porch where we all sat to talk about everything then, the smells of food coming out the door as they call us inside to eat. As I walk up the stairs all I smell is food which makes my stomach start growling because how heavenly it smells. Sometimes I would be sitting down on the porch looking at the sunny sky and the smell of my father's rice and beans makes me race inside to see if the white rice with the red beans and fried chicken would be ready soon. You can smell the sweet and milky flan that he makes every Sunday. When we get ready to sit together for dinner you can see the table full with all types of different foods such as: Rice, beans, chicken, sometimes pork or even fish then the sweet desserts come next to the juicy meats the flans, sweet pies and sometimes even cake which always was sweet and moist. Finally, the treehouse that would make my eyes sparkle are all the things that make my visit to my father's house incredible. The best times to sit out on the porch is when it is raining outside because you can watch the dark sky full of clouds just pouring down and you can see the tree leaves dancing in the wind. When we have family reunions or even little parties, you would see the porch full with all the adults sitting gossiping and drinking their wines or beers.
