To promote and coordinate research in areas related

5. NCERT and Educational Technology
Preparation of teachers: Train the pre-service
teachers through Regional Institutes of Education
(RIEs) to evaluate and integrate materials into the
learning process.
Telecast Lesson: Telecasting lessons for different
standards in different subject and educating the Indian
masses living in remote areas. The programmes are
telecast through National Telecast (DD) as well as
GyanDarshan Channels.
Audio –visual materials: The CIET wing of NCERT at
the Video Production Division held responsibility of
producing high quality Educational Video Programmes
for the School going children and Teachers.
6. CIET
Central Institute Of Educational Technology(CIET), a
consitituent unit of NCERT, came into existence in the
year 1984 with the merger of Center for Educational
Technology and Department of Teaching Aids.
CIET is a premiere national institute of educational
technology. Its major aim is to promote utilization of
educational technologies viz. radio, TV, films, Satellite
communications and cyber media either separately or
in combinations. The institute undertakes activities to
widen educational opportunities, promote equity and
improve quality of educational processes at school
level.

8. Role of CIET
To design, developing e-content in the form of learning
objects.
Developing multimedia as learning materials in
Mathematics and Geography for standard IX to XII.
CIET encourages using educational technology for
providing better quality of education. It helps in improving
the qualities of education at school level.
It provides training to the teachers to develop and make
use of learning objects effectively.
CIET is guiding SIETs (State Institutes of Educational
Technology) for development of learning objects.
To provide consultancy and media support to other
constituents of NCERT viz NIE, RIEs, Pandit Sundarlal
Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education
(PSSCIVE)
9. Functions of CIET
Design and produce media software materials
namely, television/radio, film, graphics etc.
CIET provides training in areas such script
development, media production, setting up studios,
repair and maintenance of equipment in order to
enhance the competencies in development and use
of educational software materials.
CIET provides training to the faculty in the use of
Educational Technology in their teacher education
programmes.

10. IGNOU
The Indira Gandhi National Open
University known as IGNOU, is adistance
learning national university located in New Delhi,
India.
The Parliament of India passed the Indira Gandhi
National Open University Act, 1985 (IGNOU Act
1985). IGNOU is run by the central government of
India
12. SIET
SIET were initially established as ET cells in State
departments of Education.
These ET cell were setup with establishment of Centre for
Educational Technology at the Centre in 1973; the work of ET
cell was to promote educational technology.
In 1984, with the establishment of CIET, the ET cells were
also converted into State Institute of Educational Technology
(SIET).
Initially planned Six SIET, at present five SIET across the
country.

broadcast through TV and radio and communication through

The State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET)
is responsible for the planning, research, production
and evaluation of educational software like video,
audio programmes and computer multimedia.
SIET is playing very important role in promoting
quality education to the children of primary schools.

15. UGC CEC
The Consortium for Educational Communication popularly
known as CEC is one of the Inter University Centres set up by
the University Grants Commission of India. It has been
established with the goal of addressing the needs of Higher
Education through the use of powerful medium of Television
along with the appropriate use of emerging Information
Communication Technology (ICT).
Realizing the potential and power of television to act as means of
Educational Knowledge dissemination, UGC started the
Countrywide Classroom Programmes in the year 1984. For
production of such programmes Media Centres were set up at 6
Universities. Subsequently CEC emerged in 1993 as a
nodal agency to coordinate, guide & facilitate such Educational
production at the National level. Today 21 Media Centres are
working towards achieving this goal under the umbrella of CEC.
16. Objectives of CEC :
Close Coordination, facilitation, overall guidance and
direction towards the activities of the Media Centres set up
by the UGC in various Universities throughout the
country. Dissemination of Educational programmes
through broadcast as well as non-broadcast modes.
Production of Educational programmes (Audio/Visual and
Web Based) and related support material further setting up
of appropriate facilities for such production. Research
activities related to optimizing the effectiveness of such
programmes. Providing a forum for the active involvement
of academic and other scholars in the creation of
appropriate educational programmes. Studying, promoting
& experimenting with new technology that will increase the
reach and / or effectiveness of educational communication.
